Project-based learning (PBL) has become increasingly popular as an educational strategy in recent years. With this method, students work on an important project frequently created to solve a particular issue or difficulty in the real world. Learning in the best schools in Delhi NCR is focused on inquiry-based learning, in which students work with their peers, ask questions, and perform research to get a deeper grasp of the material.

due to being sneak attacked by Aquaria hyperfixation i've decided my 3-month creative project will be either a fan-comic or AMV for the game
#rhyme rambles#i decided i wanted to do a large creative project cause im not doing school this year#but hadn't really decided what it would be#i was planning on doing something more completely original#but couldnt think of anything i really liked#but i think this will work very well! the base setting will give me a nice starting point#i'll be able to be pretty passionate about it#this is something i want to exist cause i love this game and i want it to have more fanworks#and i'll still learn a lot from doing a larger project. even if it's not something i can sell#aquaria posting

dimensional analysis is one my most-used skills and I learned it in chemistry class when I was 15
#physical units and reasoning about them is an extremely powerful skill#teens ask “when wiil I ever use this” not realizing they might be learning how to reason about the physical world instead of job training#but job training gives you more dollars maybe#but the other thing can help you avoid being duped by cons and avoid physical danger that might not be visible#idk if there's a way to help teens see the point without making school more project based and applied#my blog#afternoon thoughts as I watch the rainfall across the window

One of the many hills I’ll die on is my defense of the Girl Scouts if you hear the “girl” in Girl Scouts and immediately assume “well, clearly all they’re teaching them is how to bake cookies and manage a household and become a good wife and mother who stays home and cooks and cleans” then that shits on you yeah some troops aren’t going to be as good as others it all depends on the leadership and resources available but that doesn’t negate the fact that at it’s core it is there to teach young girls valuable skills and it can provide unique opportunities and a nice community for people who may need it
#like. my experience wasn’t even the /best/#I wasn’t bullied by the other girls by any means but I also wasn’t liked I was just. there and kinda outcast from them#and my troop was on a military base we didn’t have a lot#but we still did fun arts and crafts projects and we went camping ALL the time#I wasn’t allowed to do much of anything so it was a chance to get out of the house#and spend time with people my age outside of school#even the cookie selling is often used to teach about managing money and businesses ect#and lots of people get experience with first aid and STEM projects in it#when my sister was signing up after we moved they were talking about doing#lots of conservation and environmental clean up projects#which is cool!!!#from what I hear the Girl Scouts keep up with the fucken times besties#it’s been a long time since I was a part of it but I still think it’s a great thing#and I hate when people dunk on it and reduce it to just selling cookies#and assume that because it’s for girls it only teaches old fashioned misogynistic standards#also things like knowing how the basics of how to cook and shit like that are still important???#they don’t teach that in most schools anymore except as an elective#it’s not that young girls /shouldn’t/ learn that it’s that it should be taught to people regardless of gender#you need that shit to survive damn#we support Girl Scouts in this household

a handful of chinese songs that give me big robit energy
translating cpop songs is like my second favourite hobby so it's frankly surprising I haven't made this post sooner
Him - Floruitshow (马 - 福禄寿)
I've talked about this song on here before but this is the 3.7 song for me
the second chorus is definitely MR-SN but i like to think of the first chorus (Let me take a good look at your visage as we count down the time till the curtains’ close. Forgive me for holding back my voice so soon, do you know, in your graceful escape, all I see around me is disaster?) as VR-LA during the flashback sequence
specifically 'all I see around me is disaster' because yeah not wrong
'This time I’m not here to bring you home' just kills me like the please please take care of yourself because I can't be there with you anymore of it all
'Oh spring, oh warm sun, please come sooner, grant him a smooth and safe journey' same point, just the desperate plea for the universe to protect VR-LA because he can't do it himself anymore
How can I make you stay - Floruitshow (我用什么把你留住 - 福禄寿)
(conveniently I have actually done a full translation of this song!)
definitely one of the Maxim songs of all time
"You’ve believed that you can let your life pass in numbness, but [...] why do your tears fall in the moment of letting go?' YEAH because we've seen so many times how Maxim keeps trying to convince himself that he can stop just caring but it never works
'You say don’t fall in love, yet you’re unwilling to let go' same point, this man is in such denial about how he just can't stop caring
specifically the second verse feels a lot like Maxim waiting for VR-LA to return from Tu'narath
'You stay silent, holding onto starlight as you wait through your darkest hour. Your mind is struck, when familiar murmurs pierce your ears once more' aaaAAAAHH
the bridge (?) as a conversation between VR-LA and Maxim, VR-LA inviting Maxim to see the beauty and wonders of the world ('Do you want to see the sea of flowers blooming?', very 4.5 wedding invite honestly) but Maxim's trauma just would not allow him to take that risk ('If none of them come back, then who should I live for?')
fun fact the second version of the bridge in my translation ('You must stay to see the flowers bloom' onwards) is exclusive to that live performance of the song so it's not in the spotify version i linked here. as for which version you think fits Maxim more.. well.
Borrow - Mao Buyi (借 - 毛不易)
finally banging out a translation for this song was kinda the inspiration for me to make this post actually
the tldr of this song is that it's an unnamed/unidentified speaker asking to borrow various small things for the sake of somebody else (like 'an inch of frozen sunlight' to provide warmth in a cold world) so you can probably see where i'm going with this
'A simple ‘we have plenty of time’ etched into the soul to prepare for the chance of forced separation' ouch ow okay
'Those blown apart by these winds will say that they never loved deeply' / 'There is a sincerity that cannot be blown apart by this wind' DX-TR betraying the old crew vs VR-LA fighting through so much just to get them back
'There are tears that cannot be washed away by this rain' this line just haunts me. like in general
'An acre of land for him to call home, an ordinary life for him to live' as MR-SN watching over the old crew like I can't be there for you but I hope you will find peace and a home...
#rolling with difficulty#rwd starship#rwd professionals#my feel good hobby! as opposed to art: my feel bad hobby /j#im actually learning to play how can i make you stay on the guitar right now its a lot of fun but ow my fingers#ive also found a score for him but its super outside my skill level so we'll see how that goes#bmadd11 my beloathed#/also/ working on a little something based on that song but that wont... come into play for at least the next few weeks so#its an absolute monster of a project and school has started so i dont have high hopes for getting it done soon#i dont think i got to mention this on the actual post for borrow but ive literally been spinning that song in my brain since like 2020#genuinely. i've been thinking about how to translate that song for upwards of 3 years#grammar is just weird sometimes#i was gonna include let's go wandering by bibi zhou but i couldve SWORN i wrote a translation for that song before i just cant FIND it#spent 30 minutes hunting for the doc in my drive thats 30 minutes of my life wasted#but 'lets go wandering with a smile because we carry our home in our hearts' just fucks severely#also considered including forget your sorrows when the flowers bloom by zhou shen#bc im not gonna make a cpop post and *not* try and subject more poeple to zhou shen#but like that songs vibe is too... cottagecore to really make a good point there im just obsessed with one specific line#'If my memories are stolen and I forget all my love; I'll say to you “Hello!”#post amnesia vrla to the old crew??? the 'i dont know you. id love to get to know you again' of it all????#did this instead of my programming homework :|

man there’s like. almost nothing better than closing a dense 400-page textbook for the last time and knowing you’ll never have to open it for a grade again. the relief is staggering
#yeah I'll probably have to reference a lot of these once I'm fully working but I'm not getting graded on that#anyways anxiety about tests is baked into the american school system on purpose it's literally meant to benefit white middle class students#grades and tests are tools for measuring teachers' efficacy because in the grand scheme of things it would be very hard to gather data#otherwise but the focus on them over all else is Bad. it's nice that there's been a shift away from that towards interest-based#problem-driven project learning (not just 'doing group projects' but real projects of interest with multiple means of representation)#but there are still issues with objectivity and also just plain implementation that won't be addressed without a stronger unified push#I'm a little pessimistic because you'd think the revised 2019 standards would improve things but nooo teachers just don't read updates#and are very slow to change habits but man it would be possible if schools actually did REAL professional development and not just#'here's a 30-minute powerpoint we're required by the state to show you about equity and diversity lol. and a pamphlet. anyways.'#I have work in 3.5 hours goodnight

Decided I’m gonna use my current art wip for the first page of my sketchbook as my watercolor color project in art because what I’m doing for it, meets all the criteria of not higher for the grade I need. We’re graded based off growth, so I can’t half ass projects if I want a good grade😭
Which if I have a bad grade in art my mentor will literally ask me, “Star how are you failing art!? You love art. Bring your grade up.. your other classes can wait”
I love my mentor, she’s the best.

Kiddo was 2 the first time they wrote their name unprompted. I honestly didn't realize they had even been attempting letters. (They did this on my birthday, which is why I remember it very clearly.) So fast forward to 5 years old and at the meet the teachers night for kindergarten. Kiddo has now been reading for quite a while. Their teacher hands us a sheet of sight words and says the kids would be expected to be able to read all of those words by the end of the year. "Okay, but they can already read those." I got the spiel about no, kids just parrot, a 5 year old can't read. I handed the paper to Kiddo and said, "Hey, read these words please." Kiddo rattled them off. "Okay, so now that they've completed their reading for the year, can we talk about a plan to keep them engaged this year?" Again, that woman hated my kid, who was absolutely bored out of their skull and so like gifted kids do, made their own entertainment. We pulled Kiddo out first week of November. I had asked for a meeting with the teacher about some concerns I had, but when I got there the principal was also there, and the teacher said first we're going to talk about Kiddo's behavior issues. She then proceeded to lay out a bunch of classic ADHD symptoms. The principal backed her up. Neither of them cared about anything I was worried about. Kiddo cried tears of joy when we said they didn't need to go back.
#hyperlexia is a hell of a thing#we moved the kid to a private Montessori#the teacher kept giving them harder and harder things#we very nearly had a brilliant kid who hated school on our hands#keeping them in Montessori and project based learning schools has been the best thing possible#the year of regular junior high we did was a nightmare

Lesson Plan: Manga & Comic Con Project Based Learning
This post is a little different. I’m going to share with you a PBL that I did at my elementary school which led to a school wide convention. You do not necessarily need to have a con as your POL, and you don’t need to have every grade participate as we did. Two students working on their own manga, using instructional drawing texts. This was a collaboration with my school’s speech teacher, Ms.…

Listening to a podcast discussing conspiracy theories and deconstructing the ideas behind them and it's reminded me of the coolest practical lessons in critical thinking I ever got, both in high school, both from the same teacher. One was a month long project on who killed jfk in which we could basically present any theory as long as we cited all our reasons and it got us really excited about research and interpretation, but it was the follow up that I liked best.
Our next project she brought us into class and showed us a documentary claiming the moon landing was faked. Gave us worksheets to do that sided with that stance. And at the end of class a bunch of us were like miss wait this doesn't seem right?? and she said okay, we'll discuss that next week. The next lesson, she showed us a mythbusters episode countering all the claims of the original documentary and gave us worksheets for that, and another bunch of people went wait miss you can't teach us two opposing things, which one is right? What do we put on the exam??
So she split the class in two and told us each to present a case based on each side, and to explain why our source was or wasn't the more reliable of the two. Got us to debate each other directly and use additional sources to back us up and explain why those sources were reliable and should be believed. And because they were randomly assigned there was no guarantee you'd agree with the stance you were presenting, but you had to present it like you did. At the end of the project she asked us all which stance we found more convincing and why, and the majority of us basically said "we think that the moon landing is real because most of the arguments against it seem like someone reacted to a confusing thing without testing it, but when you test it and ask the person running the test to explain the science it makes sense once you have more information. Also, one documentary was made with the help of scientists with qualifications and experience and the other was made by people who don't have that but like to write mystery books, which looks like a less reliable way to get an answer. But we still dont understand why you showed us both if one is wrong."
And she was like excellent. You've done exactly what you should do. At high school level, we as teachers are expected to filter for the reliable sources for you, so you know to repeat that to pass an exam, but if you want to be historians on your own, I won't be your teacher any more once you graduate. Lots of people have opinions and theories and research about times in history, and it's your job to learn how to look at them and decide who you want to trust. This won't be on the exam, but I need you all to know it. You all did a great job following the school's instructions to repeat information you were given, but for some of you, that information wasn't on a reliable foundation. I know you all know how to pass an exam. You're smart and you've been trained to follow these instructions. What you deserve to be taught is how to use all this once you don't have to do exams any more.
And then as a reward for us doing a good job at figuring out the value of checking your sources' sources she let us watch Bush get hit in the face with a shoe before we had to go to maths. Shoutout to you Ms Hannah you were a good'un I hope you're doing well ten years on from that class
