Sorry for the unsolicited financial advice, but, I’ve been composing for film professionally going on thirty years now, and would advise against working off a flat by-the-minuet fee.

Personally, I estimate based on, in descending order of importance:

The length of the picture.

The complexity of the work.

The range of the work, as in, range of styles employed.

The time given to complete the work.

Any time required on set, or in the studio.

In addition to those, there’s a flat fee, and expenses, provided no additional work, such as arranging multiple versions, music preparation, or conducting, are required.

But, bear in mind this is based around A: writing music to be recorded by live musicians, and not electronic production, and B: feature-length scores, where there is more flexibility for reusing material than in a short film.
