so not so fun fact about me is i have a strip of grey hair that i’ve had since i was 17 and it’s like a little patch of grey. kind of like a bad highlight that only grows in that one spot
and i’ve been consistently box dying my hair for forever so that grey has never been an issue until i went to my hair stylist back in may and said “i want u to color my hair and btw i have 28394918 box dyes on my head now,, most recent one being black,,,” and she put me on a hair dye ban. so i haven’t box dyed or dyed my hair at. all. since. may. and now i have this grey-ass stripe growing out of my head and it’s taking all my willpower not to end the journey here and box dye once more

Another 6 weeks, another DIY root job! This time I made a few improvements to my process:
Got my wife to paint on the back, so that application was a lot more even
Switched to a stronger brand of base bleach that's less generic than Clairol Professional
Applied the top + sides in two separate sessions, since the back of my head can react strongly to the dye and I didn't want to have to wash it out
Overall, the improvements are definitely a more even application and a more ethereal + lighter end color on the top overall (I was more aggressive about wait times). The areas to work on are definitely the root color still. I strongly suspect the reason the new dye didn't give me the results I wanted was because it asked for 40 V developer -- I had 20 V. So we fucked around and found out. It's not so bad, but I think it will stick out as Noticeably Orange, especially as time goes on. My plan is to do my next DIY session a little earlier (4 weeks instead of 6 weeks) and try to layer over some of those parts to bring them back to a better lift :)

That stylist that charged that little 6 year old girl $700 to do her hair is going to hell-

#i don't know why this is a Thing with me. genuinely do not know why.#but we start the 'i need a haircut' thought process about four months before the haircut ever happens#i only started wearing it longer in college and i really like it a bit long. but it is about ehhhh five or six inches Too Long rn#and the ends are SO bad. anyway i save a lot of money not getting haircuts i'm probably in there twice a year#'why don't you cut your own hair' the thing is i LIKE going to the supercuts and talking to the nice stylist#and i like having a Professional Handle This For Me. it just takes at least twelve weeks for me to go.

i am once again chickening out of getting a haircut bc trying to look up reference pics for what i might want is just wading through a sea of styles that i know took a lot of work and expensive products to get like that and i know i simply will not be able to replicate it

I'm not really sure why i thought that getting my hair professionally bleached and dyed for the first time at a new salon would be a gamechanger... all i have is some chemical burns and the wrong shade
#the stylist put blue in the green dye to 'balance' the color and now it's all streaky with blue#and i just kind of wanted to get out of there by the end because i was tired of everything happening#and now my hair is wrong shade and i'm feeling very sour about it#i am *allowed* to go back and make them fix it but i just feel like the stylist barely knew more than me about brightly colored hair#completely misjudged if my hair was able to lighten enough despite the fact i came in with everything bleached except extra-long roots#just casually got dye all over the side of my face without cleaning it off before it started to stain my skin#like i should have just gotten a professional haircut then done the coloring myself#the weather even just changed so it wouldn't have been impossible to bleach it on the balcony#if it's still too blue in a few weeks maybe i'll try to fuck with some toner for the first time#it would be fine if i wanted mermaid hair but i wanted chromakey hair!!!!! i wanted acid green!!! then i got talked into going darker#and now it's soooo obviously blue and blue does NOT want to wash out gracefully.

I started sleeping with my hair in braids bc it actually is good for your hair, but if I was one of those tik tock girls I would make one of those stupid ass pov videos where it says “pov you started sleeping in braids” and then it cuts to a video of a girl with a professional blowout and glaze shaking her hair out in slow motion

the way some of yall talk about ai art makes it seem like youre missing the point
#some1 in a visual novel fandom im in posted a tiktok comparing an in-game illustration done by ai to illustrations done by ppl and.#stylistically they are the same. like if you were unaware of algorithmically generated images you wouldnt get what the difference was#like sure its got some of the typical signage of ai generation but. some of those just look like art mistakes they didnt have time to fix#bc sometimes. professional artists. make mistakes. whaaaaaaat? wild who knew#& if those mistakes r left in a final product it means that other mistakes were more important to fix#(this is more about buttons and clothes being a bit strange. hair that reattatches at the scalp & non-stylized anatomy issues r different)
