hot take, but i’m sick of y’all assuming that the rest of the gallagher kids had great childhoods because fiona stepped up. fiona wasn’t a good mom, she was a parent simply because of the circumstances and she kept them from dying and did it all, yes, but she was a kid. the other kids are so traumatized and y’all don’t get to act surprised when lip, ian, debbie, carl, and liam act a certain way because they weren’t raised any better. lip was raised by a five year old, ian was raised by a six year old, debbie was raised by a ten year old, carl was raised by a twelve year old, liam was raised by them all, but mostly a ninteen year old. i’ve talked about it before but fiona wasn’t really a good parent, and up until 3x07, that was ok! she didn’t need to be at first, she just needed to keep them all safe. and then she becomes legal guardian and she just stops. they were all traumatized and parentified and absolutely destroyed and they all symbolize roles in a dysfunctional household as well as different trauma responses. stop using fiona raising five kids as an excuse for everything because yes, sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn’t. she traumatized them all too, and i don’t blame her for it because she was a kid too, but still. you can’t act like growing up without your mom, just your sister would be fucking fine. they’re all traumatized and fucked up.

tell me about baseball because I know nothing but would like to learn!
FEVER PITCH pro baseball!lip headcanons
TAGS & WARNINGS: mature, 18+. sexual content but non explicit, drinking mention, emotional angst, pregnancy. but also fluff!! silly shenanigans, second chance romance, lip is stupid in love.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: this is my brain child omfg. tysm for sending this ask, honestly. i yapped!!! there was also more to this but i've been adding to it for days and its getting long for hcs so. lmk if anyone wants part 2 teehee
WC: 1.4k
when he was younger lip always played shortstop, his arm was powerful but not quite precise enough to pitch, but he never minded. pitchers have to remember too much, shortstop just falls into the rhythm; watching the pitch, listening to the crack of the bat, and tracking the ball as it rocketed through the field. the two of you met in college, lip played two seasons at university of chicago before transferring to a better athletic program. there was a mutual breakup before parting ways, but whenever he's in town you can't fight the urge to see each other.
he's picked up on the MLB draft straight out of college, after captaining the national championship team, and sent to an affilliate somewhere warm in the south, georgia or maybe louisiana. he calls you often to boast the climate, while you complain about the stress of your masters degree. over time the calls come less frequently, but each conversation feels like no time has passed at all.
it takes three years for lip to work his way up to the big leagues, where he joins the chicago cubs for his rookie season. now, lip plays centerfield. he's a quick runner, and his powerful arm sends balls to their respective bases at record speed. he's efficient, most teams don't stand a chance.
he doesn't know how to tell you he's coming home again, back to chicago. and back to you. you find out from your best friend, who overheard fiona talking about it at patsy's. you two along with fi & veronica find the money for tickets at centerfield, right where lip will be.
fiona whistles through her fingers the second she reaches her seat and waves down her brother, whose cheeks immediately turn bright pink. if a teammate pointed it out he'd surely brush it off as the chilled march wind, but you know him better than that. he greets the four of you nervously, opening up as he gets sight of the smiles you wear. no one cares he didn't tell, your joy at his homecoming tops any negative in your minds.
after the third inning a guest services rep brings the four of you a handful of meal and beverage vouchers, a gift from lip. later you'll learn he'd tried to have your seats upgraded but was denied, too low on the totem pole for that sort of request. so you pile your arms with hot dogs, pretzels, cheese fries, diet coke and fancy ipa brews.
the game flies by, you and fiona sit side by side and shout teases down to lip, watching his face light up. this is the first time you really see his talent, how he's developed as an athlete. he finally has somewhere to put all of that pent up energy he keeps inside, using it to jump up in the ivy wall for a catch, to react as quick as the ball and sprint in the same direction. when he catches the game-winning out, a fly ball straight to centerfield, he tosses it up into the stands. it sails directly to you, tipsy giggles spilling from your lips as you scrawl your phone number onto the white canvas before throwing it back down.
lip wants to fog up the windows of your honda right there in the parking lot but you have the presence of mind to drag him towards his own parked car while he trails sloppy kisses down your neck. the sex is amazing, it always is, but there’s something different in the way he holds you this time. you pretend not to notice it, until you have a reason to bring it up.
three weeks later, two pregnancy tests sit on the gallaghers bathroom counter. you'd only brought one along, but fiona dug another out of her bedside table drawer when you became anxious at the two pink lines. when the second test reads positive, v offers to call lip for you and you let her.
it's hours before he can get to you, even without a game there's still training, a players meeting, and dinner afterward with franchise sponsors. he's busy, you get it. fi gives you the spare key to his apartment—a studio unit in a high rise downtown, somewhere you couldn't imagine a gallagher living—and lip pays for a cab to take you there.
once you lay eyes on the space it becomes a little more believable that lip gallagher lives there. a box spring and mattress are stacked together in one corner, topped with the classic navy blue sheets and two pillows. he has a small couch (loveseat, more like) that you decide to wait on, favoring it over the bed. his tv sits on the floor against the wall, with the remote balanced precariously on top. flipping through channels is a nice, mind numbing activity to soothe you, and you fall asleep after landing on old sitcom reruns.
the sun has long set when lip comes in the door, eyeing your sleeping frame. he decides to let you sleep while he washes the grime of the day from his body. he kneels by you when he's clean and fresh, clothed in nothing but blue gingham boxers. "'ey kid, wake up," he mumbles, smoothing your hair away from your brow. when he sees you blink up at him he continues softly, "y'can live here with me, until the baby is born, m'kay? an' we can decide what we want to do." "about?" "about us."
you smile up at him, he offers you the bed and insists on taking the couch, not allowing himself too much of a good thing. he's already over the moon you want to keep the baby, his baby. he doesn't want to scare you away. he only makes it a week cramped up on that tiny couch. later in your relationship you have something funny to look back on, old photos of lip with his knees tucked up and one arm hanging awkwardly off the cushions.
when he can't stand the couch anymore he orders you a pregnancy pillow, and you order a bedframe, all on his card of course. you don't even need the pillow yet, most nights of your first trimester you're up and down, in and out of the bathroom. each time you come back to bed lip is on his stomach, arms curled around that damn pillow as he rests on it. he says it helps his sore muscles. whatever the reason is you don't really care, the toned expanse of his back makes a good pillow anyway.
you get into a habit of ordering furniture, decorations, and other home goods while lip is away. he doesn't mind, always makes sure you use his card, he wouldn't know what to do with all that money anyway. little by little the studio apartment starts to feel like home, and lip starts to feel more like a serious boyfriend than a hookup turned baby daddy, for lack of better wording.
before you know it the season is over, lip receives a large bonus after the cubs make the playoffs, and the two of you are kissing over a bottle of sparkling cider as you christen your new two-bedroom townhouse, complete with a downstairs office space and large backyard. october turns the leaves beautiful hues, and the calmness of this new neighborhood soothes your mind, your due date in december rapidly approaching.
between the new place, increased proximity during the off-season, and your pregnancy hormones, you find yourself bickering more and more with lip. it comes to a head one night when he shouts at you, and you feel the baby kick in response before you break down completely. the fight was about something small, insignificant. it had started with you talking about baby names. lip isn't sure how he let it spiral this way.
dutifully, with regret painted on his features, he kneels down beside your crumpled form on the bed. he takes your hand, muttering an apology and promising to make things work. then he says softly, "i like lucy. as a name for the baby?" you just stare at him, and he continues, "could be short for lucille. an' you liked olivia for a middle name, yeah?"
"lucille olivia gallagher. it's so pretty, lip, i love it." you smile in awe, reaching out to cup his cheek. "i love you," you say, and now it's lip's turn to stare. but a moment passes and he smiles, gathering your frame into his arms to pull you into his lap. "love you too, pretty girl."
by new years day you have a healthy baby girl in your arms, and a pretty diamond ring on your left hand.

So here's that Fiona and Women meta I said I'd do a while ago.
Preface this by saying: This is not Fiona hate because I don't hate Fiona. I actually have a lot of grace and empathy for Fiona. I find a lot of the hate she gets is either greatly exaggerated or outright wrong. That said, I'm all for proper critique and that's what this is.
When it comes to Fiona and how she relates to other women, there's a lot of judgment and competition going on. The only exception is V, and I suspect it's because V is one, already in a relationship so Fiona's not competing with her for other men, and two, because V has a certain kind of feminity that Fiona respects.
Fiona strikes me as the type who is a feminist in name only. She's someone who slips into respectability politics in a way that's counterproductive to actually supporting women. She wants equality for women and for women to be respected but only certain women.
This brings me to her treatment of Mandy, Svetlana, and Debbie.
Mandy
From the moment when Mandy and Lip get together properly, Fiona is very judgmental and rude to Mandy. To the point where Mandy knows Fiona doesn't like her and if my readings are right, it hurts Mandy's feelings. To a certain extent, Mandy looks up to Fiona and even relates to her. They both being the girls in their family who do/have taken care of the domestic duties of the household and who seek refuge in sexual relationships. But just like I think Mandy relates a lot to Fiona, I think Fiona sees herself in Mandy. I think that's what scares her about Mandy and Lip's relationship. Fiona, as most can tell, doesn't like herself very much and because of that anything reminds her of herself she rejects. Granted, she won't kick Mandy out but she's not very warm to her either. It's like cold acceptance of her presence. I think if Fiona had taken the time to get to know Mandy, they would have gotten along a lot better. Maybe even learned from each other. Hopefully at Milkovich/Gallagher Christmases, they've had the chance to talk things out.
Svetlana
I feel like Fiona's feelings toward Svetlana are both clear-cut and complicated. On one hand, Svetlana was the wife of her brother's boyfriend and even if we never saw her and Ian talk about that, I'd imagine Fiona has an idea of that period. Also, how much it hurt Ian to watch Mickey get married and have a family. So, I'm including that as a reason. Not saying it's a fair assessment of Svetlana's role, because I also see Svet as a victim in that paradigm along with Ian and Mickey. There's also the jealousy of Svetlana and V bonding while Fiona is busy. V and Fiona eventually made up but by the time they had that conversation Svetlana was gone and there was no way she and Fiona could've patched that up, which I think they would have. There's the amazing scene where Svetlana actually calls Fiona out for her looking down on Svetlana. She calls out how Fiona judges her while not acknowledging that Svet works hard and is determined to make a life for herself. Svetlana has the confidence in herself that Fiona lacks. I think that breeds a level of resentment, because like a lot of people, Fiona looks down on Svetlana as a sex worker/former sex worker. Like Svetlana says, she works hard and is not deterred from her path so she will succeed. Whereas Fiona will get cold feet and self-sabotage when she's doing well for herself. It's like she thinks she doesn't deserve it. If Fiona and Svetlana had been able to be on good terms, I think Svetlana could've been a good influence on Fiona.
Debbie
I know this is gonna seem like a cop-out but I blame the writers for how Fiona and Debbie's bouts would develop. The only two sisters in a house full of brothers and an alcoholic father who only loves himself. They should've been the closest. But instead, we get power struggles and anti-choice storylines. I have to bring back the fake feminist point from earlier. I think Fiona is one of those women that's pro-choice but only if it's the choice she agrees with. Was Debbie being a teen mom the best choice? No, no one would ever say that. But, by the time she learned of the pregnancy, it was too late to force Debbie into terminating, and that wasn't up to her to begin with. Fiona was working off emotion and not being solution-oriented. She shamed Debbie for getting pregnant, tried to force her to get an abortion, and got physical when she wouldn't agree to it. I don't doubt that Fiona loves her niece now, but the beginning was a nightmare. And in the end, Debbie defied all odds and showed herself to be a top-notch mother. Let's also talk about how Debbie was the only sibling to show Fiona empathy when she was having her breakdown, and how Fiona left Debbie in charge of the house when she left. All that potential to show them being close is left untouched because Shameless is a show created and steered by men and it shows.
#Justice for functional women bonding on Shameless#I still love Fiona and I think she gets way more hate than she deserves#But the way she treats other women is wrong and it should be said#Women stop hating other women challenge#Shameless US#Shameless Meta#Fiona Gallagher#Debbie Gallagher#Svetlana Yevgenivna#Svetlana Milkovich#Shameless#Mandy Milkovich

Hello everyone! Welcome to our Tumblr page. We are an OSDD-1B system that is made almost entirely out of fictives, aside from Venus who is the host, and Pain, one of our persecutors. There are way too many of us to write down and describe in one entire post, so we will simply list the sources we have. Sources marked red have alters that are either always up front or otherwise very active in our system. Only sources marked red will have the alters listed out, but as always you’re free to ask for an individual list of alters if we happen to share sources. We’re always open to making new friends.

I'm the advice about Emmy Rossum potentially supporting Isr@el anon; nvm I've found actual proof (she shared Obama's instagram post about Isr@el having a right to defend itself etc.) SO can I please ask for some alternatives of Emmy Rossum?? Specifically her as Fiona Gallagher so looking rough, curly hair, big eyes, looks like they'll fight at the drop of a hat, and preferably same ethnicity (Ashkenazi Jewish) and appearing as being in her 30s please??
Abbi Jacobson (1984) Ashkenazi Jewish - artists for ceasefire.
Monica Raymund (1986) Ashkenazi Jewish / English, Dominican - is bisexual.
Maghan Rath (1986) Ashkenazi Jewish / Goan Indian.
Ilana Glazer (1987) Ashkenazi Jewish - is queer and uses they/she - is anti-apartheid.
Sofia Black-D'Elia (1991) Ashkenazi Jewish / Italian.
Hari Nef (1992) Ashkenazi Jewish - is trans and pro Palestine.
Josette Maskin (1994) Jewish - is queer and uses she/they, artists for ceasefire.
Emma Seligman (1995) Jewish - is queer and pro Palestine.
also:
Asia Kate Dillon (1984) Ashkenazi Jewish / Unspecified - is non-binary and pansexual (they/them) and pro Palestine.
and:
Lola Kirke (1990) Jewish [including Iraqi Jewish] / English, Jewish - artists for ceasefire.
Hannah Marks (1993) Muscogee, Egyptian Jewish, Italian Jewish, Polish Jewish, Irish, and English.
I'm sorry I couldn't suggest more people but I found out some of my (ex)faves are pro Isr*el with this ask so I was struggling for suggestions. 😭😭

Rigby Jane (RJ) 🌵24 🌵Muslim🌵Prison Abolitionist
#1 Fiona Gallagher understander on this website
Things you should understand before you follow this blog:
1.)Sex work is just a job. it is as much selling your body as retail is
2.) I do not sanction or tolerate pro cop/pro military AND BY EXTREMELY OBVIOUS BUT BAFFLINGLY UNCOMMON EXTENSION pro prison rhetoric and if you think the solution for someone causing harm is to put them out of sight in a place where they can only harm other incarcerated people please leave this blog and do not come back until you have read both are prisons obsolete and the new jim crow
3.) Some gay people are more comfortable in the closet even around other gay people and if you cannot wrap your head around this you will not have a good time on this blog.
4.) There are plenty of nice and normal people on this website you can go and follow instead of me. I am a cranky bitchass commie with very little tolerance for milquetoast liberals that you discovered by unfortunate happenstance. there is still time to get out of here
5.) Every Character on the show is an asshole but none of them are irredeemable I don't believe in that. Also Fiona parallels Frank and Liam Parallels Debbie 👍
6.) my favorite character is sandy
7.) I'm not voting for a genociderrrrrrrrr

Speaking of shameless.. Can we talk about hoe Fiona deserved the world? She had no childhood. Raised her siblings from the age of basically a toddler until she was an adult, and never got to experience being a kid of teen or anything really. Then the whole storylines on how she was being immature and irresponsible and all that stuff happened. Like yes in some instances she was but also lets not forget this is a traumatized women. Being forced to care for all your siblings from age 6 onwards leads to trauma. Hell id argue she was severally traumatized by what she went through. And no this isnt excusing the shit shes done thats put herself or others in danger but it at least helps explain it and really i cant really blame her for acting childish and immature as an adult. Like all her family she needs heavy fucking therapy and tbh id say she also needs someone to take care of her the way she did her entire family.
honestly agree with all of this & it absolutely showed in how the family fell apart when she left. debbie went power mad, no one respected each other & for all everyone went at fiona for what she did wrong with the cocaine incident, even after she redeemed herself — everyone else in the gallagher family fr forgot about him when their own lives took over. fiona should've taken her lil munchkin with her smh. fuck the rest of them, they're adults now.

Do you think Mandy would hold any jealousy or resentment towards Mickey for marrying into the Gallagher family? Given how Lip and Fiona treated her, and how Mickey was accepted into the family better than she was despite her doing more for them (mainly Lip) in the early seasons (especially S3).
no, i don’t.
that’s an interesting thought, though.
we didn’t hear her talk about gallavich a lot, but we do know she was like “that’s all your going to say to him?” and she made mickey chase after ian, she seemed pretty pro-gallavich.
however i don’t think she would want to be around the gallagher’s (other than ian and debbie and possibly carl and liam also). mandy not wanting to be around them is the only logical explanation i can make up regarding why she missed the gallavich wedding.
she seemed pretty uncomfortable at the gallagher house in season 6.
i think she possibly has some resentment for fiona and lip still. and maybe she was a bit hurt by how he was accepted bit easier, but in present time i hope that mandy has moved past all of that. she really just needed love and a home and it’s saddening how she didn’t get that from the gallagher’s.
i honestly hope mandy is no longer an escort and either single or in a healthy relationship now. hopefully she gets therapy and has no resentment for them anymore.

An Essay (sort of) Explaining the Many Grievances I Have With Debbie Gallagher
Once again, Debbie is the fucking worst.
I’ve been wanting to write out my feelings towards her character for a fucking minute now just so that I have a full concise list. Now, I can talk about how Debbie has a constant need for attention, or how her character has become someone unrecognizable in the past few seasons, or how she’s a terrible mother, but what I really want to focus on is the center of my issues with her: her sexuality. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t about to be a homophobic rant or anything. I just think her queer development has been written terribly and that should be addressed.
Too often I see people praising queer characters or relationships based solely on the fact that they are queer, and as a member of the community, I get it. I am also starved for representation. This, however, does not mean I’m going to settle for annoying, poorly written characters.
Why Make Debbie Queer?
The first thing I want to address is why suddenly develop a WLW storyline for her. Given that Debbie started as a little girl on the show, this gives the writers a lot of opportunity to give a character like that interesting storylines because she does not yet have a solid personality. It gives writers the liberty to take her story anywhere they want to without the constraints of established character because she, as a person, is still developing into adulthood. The show runners unfortunately dropped the ball with this.
From season 4 and onwards was when Debbie began showing interest in dating, sex, and romance having just turned the corner to puberty. From then up until season 9, she has shown exclusive interest in men. It isn’t until Alex the welder that Debbie deviates from this path. Alex is portrayed as a stud who confuses Debbie. I am inclined to believe that Debbie was originally attracted to her because she was masculine and therefore close enough to the people Debbie had previous experience with.
This arc was treated very much as Debbie experimenting with her sexuality, something that Alex also ends up realizing after Debbie tells her that having sex with a girl is “not that bad” and “like having sex with yourself” (S9E4). Once this storyline wrapped up (with Debbie shouting “you make me want cock again”) the writers powered through, adamant about Debbie now being a lesbian.
I have two theories as to why they’ve been fighting so hard for her queerness.
1) This was around the time that Cam was leaving Shameless. This obviously didn’t end up happening, but I was under the impression that the writers were freaking out at losing their token gay character and needed to fill that position. When Cam ended up staying, they were stuck with a queer Debbie storyline and decided to just go with it.
2) Shameless was planning on doing a WLW storyline regardless of Cam’s choice to leave and were originally going to give it to Fiona and her lesbian tenant that she had a close relationship and a lot of chemistry with, but Emmy Rossum wanted to move on from Shameless, and so they pivoted and gave the arc to Debbie, a character that was not supposed to be moved in that direction and so her new sexuality seemingly came out of nowhere. Fiona as a bisexual character would have made sense. Debbie still does not.
Shameless’s Awkward Relationship With Bisexuality
One of the biggest issues I have with Debbie is her insistence on being a lesbian. Lesbianism doesn’t come out of nowhere. Bisexuality, however, can. When you grow up being told that you are supposed to feel attraction to men, and you genuinely do feel attraction to men (which Debbie has expressed in past seasons/episodes) it’s easy to ignore your attraction to women and write it off as something that either isn’t a big deal, or something that isn’t there. It’s a lot more confusing than being strictly at one end of the spectrum. It would have been so much more believable if they had simply made Debbie bisexual. Unsurprisingly, they didn’t because the show has a history with bi erasure.
Bisexuality has been treated badly all throughout Shameless, used as a vengeful plot device back in the earlier seasons where Monica was only ever with women when unmedicated. Then in Season 7 when Ian’s boyfriend Caleb cheated on him with a woman (enforcing the stereotype of bisexuals being unfaithful) Ian, possibly acting out of anger or ignorance, said things like “only women are bisexual. When a man says he’s bisexual he’s really just gay”. The only semi positive bisexual representation on the show was Svetlana and Vee when they were in a poly relationship with Kev (though I also think that storyline wasn’t handled as well as it could’ve been).
This fight against the bisexual label in media is not a new one but it is also a harmful stance to take when writing a sexually fluid character. Debbie declaring that she is, in fact, a lesbian after waxing poetic about how Matty had a big dick and Derek had a great body and knew what he was doing is not the way to go.
You could argue that Debbie, like many other queer women, is an unfortunate victim of compulsory heterosexuality, but frankly I don’t think the writers are well versed enough in queer theory for that to be a possibility.
Debbie as The White Feminist
Debbie is the pinnacle of white feminism. It’s an unfortunate thought that has occurred to me a few times throughout the show. She talks a big game as a man hater and someone after the equal treatment of women but she herself participates in a lot of problematic and anti feminist behavior.
For one, she r*ped Matty back in season 5 when he was blacked out and unconscious. This was a point in the story that was glossed over and one where she suffered no repercussions other than Matty no longer wanting to be around her. It was explained in the show that Debbie didn’t realize what she did was wrong until after she was explicitly told so because she was maybe 14 when it happened (not 100% on the age Shameless is very inconsistent about timelines). It was treated as somewhat of a punchline, something that Shameless has unfortunately done more than once when referring to male sexual assault (Mickey’s r*pe, Liam in season 10 ((i think??)) and in this latest season, Carl) but that is a different topic.
There was also the time in which she lied to her boyfriend about being on birth control so she could trap him into a relationship with pregnancy (which also counts as r*pe!!) Good on Derek for getting out of that.
Debbie has also been pro-life in the past. Now I understand this was when Fiona was pressuring her into aborting her pregnancy, and as a pro choicer myself, I believe that Debbie was fully in her right to have bodily autonomy and go through with the pregnancy. This isn’t where the issue lies. It’s when Fiona finds out that she too is pregnant and tells Debbie that she wants an abortion that Debbie accuses her of “killing her baby”. Again, her behavior could be explained by her age given that Debbie was still a young teen during this time.
When her actions as a White Feminist become less excusable is mostly in the latest season. Her relationship with Sandy is one that I’m not really happy with because Debbie doesn’t deserve her.
Recently, it has been revealed that Sandy is actually married to a man and has a son. It’s explained that she was basically married off against her will at the age of 15 to a man twice her age. This implies that the product of the marriage, her son, was most likely conceived through dubious consent (or worse) at the hands of an adult when she was just a kid. Just because Debbie thinks that Sandy’s husband “seems nice” does not give her the right to try and make a victim of grooming feel bad about not wanting to be with her abuser. While I understand that Sandy’s son has no fault in how he came into the world, I’m still gonna side with Sandy when it comes to having to take care of a child she didn’t want and who is most likely a source of trauma for her. It’s not difficult to sympathize with Sandy and see that she’s clearly gone through something fucked up and Debbie, despite claiming to love and support her, AND despite her dumb white feminist arc about wanting equal pay and all that jazz, turns her back on the girls supporting girls aspect of feminism.
This isn’t even mentioning how shitty it was to just leave Franny by herself and assume that one of her siblings would take her to school and pick her up and stuff as if they don’t all have separate lives. She talks a lot about being a good mother but decided to “let off some steam” by fucking off to a gay bar to get loaded on coke and fuck a gay man (which wtf thats not a thing that really happens with casual coke but whatever I guess). Once she realized she fucked up, instead of taking responsibility she decided to paint herself as the victim as well as spew offensive bullshit about how she “probably has AIDS now” because of her sexual encounter with a gay man. No lesbian in their right fucking mind would ever say that because as members of the LGBTQ+ community, you are at least a tiny bit informed as to how devastating and tragic the AIDS crisis was for queer people.
(I also have an issue with how Debbie capitalized on her felony as a sex offender and her sexuality to start her Hot Lesbian Convict business but I think that’s enough said.)
Blame the writers
The show got almost an entirely new cast of writers after season 7 which is why the show feels more like a sitcom with low stakes and no consequences rather than a drama, but if there is a queer writer on the team it’s not very evident. Even the better half of the queer relationship story, Ian and Mickey, I don’t feel has really been done justice since the change in writers. It’s just become painfully obvious that the actress is a straight girl playing a gay character (not to mention I have never seen any chemistry between her and all of her female love interests). I don’t fault Emma Kenney (the actress) for this. I actually really like her as a person and I like the videos she makes about the cast and such, and I think she does her best with the script she’s given. My complaints with Debbie are targeted entirely towards the writers.
This brings me to my final point. I need them to let Debbie be alone. Her whole thing for the second half of the season has been that she clearly has abandonment issues and is afraid of being alone. It’s why she’s so adamant about keeping the house and fighting with Lip about it (I’m actually on Debbie’s side for that one but that’s besides the point). They had her and Sandy break up which leaves Debbie to spiral further into her loneliness. From a writing point of view, it makes sense to take this opportunity to give her an arc in which she can overcome that and feel comfortable with herself so that she can move on as an adult instead of jumping into a new relationship. This is especially true since this is quite literally the last season ever of the show and any character development needs to be wrapped up. Introducing a new character out of nowhere does not give the viewers enough time to actually get invested in the new relationship. It’s also unfair to Debbie’s character because her arc is going to feel incomplete.
Anyway,,,,,,uuuhhhhh,,,,,feel free to add on if u want lmao

You know, there's been a lot of talk lately about characters and who is harshly judged and who skates by with no accountability. And I agree on both fronts. So let's make it real fair.
Pros and Cons of the ✨Gallagher Siblings✨
No explanations, no excuses, just pros and cons, baby.
Fiona
Pros: Caring, persevering, hard-working, loves hard, open with her emotions, will find a way, lives to be a leader.
Cons: Hates being wrong, judges other women, cheats on her partners, micromanages her loved ones, martyr complex, self-sabotages.
Lip
Pros: Loves kids, cares for his brothers, wants to help other addicts, was able to admit he had a problem, works to manage his alcoholism
Cons: Pretentious, treats women bad, verbally aggressive towards women, uses his intellect like a weapon, claims to be the smartest in the room but can't think without ego-tripping.
Ian
Pros: Hard worker, empathetic, intelligent, loving, giving, strong, refuses to be a victim.
Cons: He cheated on his partners in the past, has also shown verbal aggression towards women, that sexist scene in season 7, throws a punch first, and asks questions later.
Debbie
Pros: Hard working as well, has never met a person she couldn't grow to care about, loves kids, also loves hard, feels everything deeply, will succeed by any means necessary
Cons: Tries to micromanage other people's lives, won't let go even if it's what's best for her, will mimic harmful behavior she sees.
Carl
Pros: Selfless, loving, caring, protective, is in fact smart, creative, athletic, not easily scared, a real sweetheart.
Cons: Tortured animals as a child, was a drug dealer, White Boy Carl™.
Liam
Pros: Endless potential, could grow up to be a sports manager, genuine, mostly respectful
Cons: Has the potential to mimic his family's bad behavior, and has exhibited spoiled behavior.

Mickey and JimmySteve
These two characters may have only had one interaction but they have something in common. Mickey married into the Gallagher family and Jimmy was in a relationship with Fiona that seemed to be heading in that direction (but ultimately fizzled out). While I could go on a whole other rant about Jimmy and Fiona’s relationship and Ian and Mickey’s relationship: the pros/cons/flaws/etc., what I’d like to discuss here are the moments when I realized that there really couldn’t be anyone else for Fiona and Ian. Keep in mind that these are only MY opinions!
In S2E12, we see the aftermath of Monica’s attempted suicide. Fiona begins to clean up her blood and Jimmy begins to help her. He cracks a joke about the kids being “already pretty fucked up” and holds Fiona’s hand. Fiona kisses him after. This is a big deal considering that they were kind of on and off at this point. While I would also love to elaborate on that scene and plot line in itself I won’t right now. It’s important to me because in that moment of them cleaning up Monica’s blood I really felt that no matter what lies Jimmy tells down the line, there really isn’t any going back in my mind on their relationship. It’s this moment where I really felt they were meant for each other and none of Fiona’s love interests could compare.
Now with Ian and Mickey it’s a bit different. It took me years to really realize and pick this scene out but it gives me similar vibes to the one of Fiona and Jimmy in the kitchen. Only, in different ways! At the end of S5E8 we have the famous “Sorry I’m Late” scene. This moment hits me the same way as the kitchen scene in the sense that, I really can’t believe that there could be anyone else for Ian after watching it. Mickey is totally locked in as his love interest. Again I could 100% over analyze this scene by itself too but for the purpose of this post I won’t. There’s the facial expression on Ian’s face and then when Mickey gets into the bed and kisses him we see a calmness. A safety.
These were the two scenes that really made me see that Jimmy and Mickey just could not be replaced, even more so from that point on.
Ps. Love that Noel and Justin were roommates in Canada haha LOL
