would you recommend the book you are reading :0?
also overall, what's ur fave/least fave thing that has happened so far :D?
YES DEFINITELY i love it so much.. Vicious is the first one though so if you ever read it do that one first [and please let me know] [definitely look at the tws also. These books are crazy]
Also for the favorite thing I would probably say Eli's backstory sections because they were REALLY interesting. I don't have a least favorite I think, there wasn't anything that I disliked a whole lot to be honest

Hello everyone! Welcome to our Tumblr page. We are an OSDD-1B system that is made almost entirely out of fictives, aside from Venus who is the host, and Pain, one of our persecutors. There are way too many of us to write down and describe in one entire post, so we will simply list the sources we have. Sources marked red have alters that are either always up front or otherwise very active in our system. Only sources marked red will have the alters listed out, but as always you’re free to ask for an individual list of alters if we happen to share sources. We’re always open to making new friends.

Strange Nights | Vampire! Dr Strange x Y/n
Logline: After Y/N gets imprinted by a vampire Dr Strange, living under a fictive identity, they must unravel the cause behind her constant misadventures before their hopes are crushed forever.
Masterlist
Chapter 20 : Strange
Tumblr media
The house with its rustic furniture disarrayed stacks of books and shuttered windows looked the same as she had left it. She wondered how it could look the same when everyone she knew was gone.
Y/N walked back to her small, less crowded room where the Christmas tree from last year hadn't been put away. When she was little she used to insist on sleeping under the tree on Christmas Eve, so she could catch her father putting the presents instead of Santa Clause. That was so naughty of me, she thought. She sat in front of the tree, her fingers running across the empty gift boxes. Conjuring a fire in the hearth, she lay in bed looking at my ceiling - its yellow colour swirled around into a million patterns and shapes to get lost in.
"Think about this instead of that boy," Charles had said when she'd come in and lay down on the bed to look at him finishing what Jean had started.
"I can't," she'd said. "Aaron broke my heart."
"I know," he'd said, lying down next to her. "But one day he won't matter."
"He had said he loved me."
"They all say something like that," he'd told her, caressing her wet cheeks. "Trust the one who takes his time saying it."
"How long did it take Mom?"
"She never did." He'd smiled at her curious gaze and said, "Some confessions don't have to be said out loud. You just know it."
"How do you do this without her?" She knew he missed her more than she did, loved her more than she did. And the way light had left his eyes the day Jean died, she was scared she would lose him too. "You," he'd whispered and kissed her forehead. "You're my only anchor in this sinking world."
Stephen started at her like a child staring at an anonymously wrapped parcel. She was a risk, a mystery and he was being drawn to her like a moth toward the fire. He sat down heavily next to her, still staring over at her, still unsure of what to say. "What are you thinking about?"
"Dad," she replied with a smile, "the way he put me together when I was broken."
"And who broke you?" He asked conversationally, lying next to her and gazing at the ceiling.
"The usual one," she answered.
"Do you miss them - ever think of how different things would be if they were here?" She asked, edging closer to him, "Your other family, before the avengers?" He didn't answer; he had no answer to it. He hadn't given a thought to them for a very long time. He felt like being undone in ways it had been never before. It scared him. What scared him more was he wanted her to open him up layer by layer. "I didn't have much to miss about them. My... father had sent me away when I was quite young. I don't think their presence would have made any difference."
She reached toward him, very slowly, watching his face, thinking he perhaps might stop her. But he didn't. Her warm fingers grazed the curve of his hand, rubbing smooth circles. "Why would he do that?" she whispered, drinking in the struggle of emotions in his eyes.
She had no idea what a man Eugene Strange was. The laugh came out much more cruel than he intended. He expected her to flinch, to withdraw like everyone else had but she stared at him with those same warm eyes. "Victor and I were bent on pursuing our career as artists. For a successful businessman like him, our dreams seemed completely unacceptable. I was the eldest, so I had to be fixed first. Fathers love to fix things, don't they?"
"What about Victor?"
"Our little sister died before he could do the same with him. He and mother wanted all of us to be together again. Though I loved my brother very, very much, I couldn't spend the rest of my days watching the face of her killers."
He waited for her judgement - the usual you-should-have-gone-back advice. But she had taken his story as it was no question to what he had done whatsoever. She leaned closer and laid all of her hand against his forearm. His eyelids slipped closed as he tried to contain his reaction. Every touch of hers felt like an earthquake rocking through his core.
"Why do you wear this broken watch?"
"To remind me of what I had done," he whispered with his eyes still closed.
When Y/N didn't pursue to lift the silence spell between them, he shifted opening his eyes, eager to watch her expression and guess her thoughts. And he wasn't disappointed. A pale blue light was seeping from her body all around the edges, escaping from her pores. The stone glowed and her eyelids were twitching as if she were watching a movie only she could see.
Maybe it worked after all. The shroud of blue mist, covering her, began sweeping under his skin. It rejuvenated every fibre of his being. The surge of power and life was impossible to comprehend. Stephen shook his head in disbelief. Her powers grew by every day. This was beautiful and scary at the same time.
He carefully withdrew his hand from hers, kissed her cheek and softly padded to Charles' room.
Stephen leafed through scraps of paper and closely written notebooks with the attention of a judge deciding on a capital case. In every bundle of research papers, he'd found something or the other related to mystic arts. Charles Henley, he decided, was a better parent than Jean when it came to keeping secrets. It was better to leave behind complicated clues than to leave no clues at all.
His cell phone dinged - a message from Peter.
THEY ARE COORDINATES - WHICH PLACE NOT SURE BUT LOKI BELIEVES IT'S NEAR WHERE THE TWILIGHT WELL WAS LAST SEEN.
"Codex Imperium, Maxim's Primer, Basics of Astral Projection; you finished all of this," Wong noted, as he sorted through the books. "I see you are keeping up with your Master's knowledge as well as mischief."
"Am I?" Y/N asked disbelievingly.
"Stealing books from the library through portals," he sighed remembering how much trouble Stephen had given him.
"He said it was fine as long as I returned them to their rightful place." Of course, he would, Wong snorted. "Then tell him I won't be fine with giving you access to the Master's section in his absence."
"Fine, I won't," she pouted.
"As punishment, you won't have access to the section today."
"Wong...," she coaxed and whined to no avail. "Without him or Wanda, what am I supposed to do without books?"
"Not my problem," he replied while still busy putting away the books.
With nothing to do on hand, she decided to bug him instead. "What does the stone of Hala do?"
"Depends on the knowledge of the wielder," he replied nonchalantly.
"What do you know about the multiverse?"
"Infinite realities with infinite danger."
"Cauldron of the Cosmos?"
"Figure out Mystical treats lurking in space."
"Necronomicon?"
"Not the book for you."
"Darkhold?"
"Stay away from it all cost."
"Master Strange?"
"Ste-," his lips froze as soon as he realized the name she had taken. "Where did you hear the name?"
She regarded him carefully before speaking, "My parents. Why would you ask?"
"Nobody takes that name anymore. What do you know about him?"
"Nothing. I didn't even remember the name until last night. Who was he? And why doesn't anybody speak of him?"
"You should ask Stephen," he replied, busying himself once more.
She notice that way he reacted was similar to her father. This only mystified why they had been searching for him all those years. Knowing she wouldn't get anything more out of him regarding Strange, she decided on knowing about Stephen instead, never realising that they were one and the same person.
"You said I was keeping up with him, how long had you known him?"
"Over forty years... He was utterly shattered in every way when he came to Kamar Taj." With every word, he spoke she filled page after page of her blank book about him.
"How did he end up being a vampire?"
Wong bent his head, as hot pressure swelled in his eyes, throat, and chest. The flash of memory was a cruel stab of pain.
"After defeating Thanos, they turned the zombies back to humans. I think he had seen into the future many a time before they did this, 'cause the first thing I remember after being reverted, after I found him is that he atomised all the infinity stones. As the sorcerer supreme, he was supposed to protect the time stone no matter what, but he destroyed our greatest weapon without any hesitation." He paused for a beat and motioned Y/N to follow him.
"Days after that we started getting visitors across the multiverse. The gates had to be closed." He opened the doors to one of the deeper quarters' of the library, housing the Orb of Agamotto. He pointed to her the protective shield glowing around the orb, "The Father of Mystic Arts, the mighty Agamotto, had built three sanctums in places of power but they weren't enough to shield our world anymore. Stephen knew what he had to do."
"He built another seven sanctums," Y/N noted.
"A feat no sorcerer would dare to achieve. That massive use of power had nearly killed him. When he was building the fifth one, I had given up all hope of him surviving the process."
"Then the vampires showed up?"
"No, the vampires were always there - walking anonymously among mankind for centuries. The use of stones to revert the zombies had caused a massive surge of gamma radiation. The shifter spices that had been dormant for the last few centuries started increasing at an alarming rate. The vampires feared being outnumbered and thus began the struggle between the Supernaturals. But it wasn't as serious as compared to other problems."
And he could still clearly remember the day it finally was. The distress call from Stark still rang in his ears. "Stephen was very weak after building the final sanctum. I tried to stop him in every way possible when Stark called him for help, even I insisted on going instead of him. But he was stubborn as always. At least that is what I thought of then. The more I think of it, the surer I get that he knew what was in store for him. He knew what he was going to become, what he had to do to bring the Supernatural world under control, and what all he was going to lose when all he did was to save many lives above few."
To suffer a loss was one sort of pain, but the pains of watching someone you love suffer and when you can't do anything about it was a whole different level of agony.
"Whatever he is doing for you, is only going to bring him more trouble. But I won't ask of you to leave him, for I'm sure the separation would only do him more harm than any good. All I beg of you is to hold him gently in your hands, he has been cracked enough, one wrong tap no matter how feeble it is will shatter him in a way he could never be put together."

it's really nice on a more serious note that we have these intrasystem relationships bc we (its two marriages - me and vince. virgil and victor. but all four of us are a thing together. and some other pairings of the less frequently fronting alters also exist) were literally made for each other the dynamics of these partnerships were cobbled together organically from what were once multiple sets of paired fictives and were in our development modeled on the deepest purest and most well-oiled visions of love that our developing self could find and we've only ever gotten better at it. all our dynamics with each other are unique and it allows us as a whole to still blossom in the aftermath of emotional neglect, coercion and later a much healthier but often conflict-ridden relationship outside our head. we've had the bar set high for us bc our not-shitty ex was also a system who had an intrasystem relationship with a protector alter
(sidebar our host doesn't roll that way they prefer to clock out and leave the sappy shit to us queens, they tried getting gay with virgil but it doesn't work bc like all four of us are significantly older in headspace than in body - I'm the youngest of the four at 29, virgil oldest at 33, host/body are 23 and the rest of the alters skew a bit younger except gulley who is literally. 65. - so the dynamics between us and orchid are a lot more that they have a bunch of fairy godparents who are all gay for each other)
but our ex was already familiar with how this shit works so we all had different dynamics with them and in turn other dynamics still with their headmates. it was on a level of complexity and intimacy that idk that we could ever reach with a singlet and in the aftermath of the heartbreak of that relationship falling apart we are. not on the dating scene at the moment for other reasons as well but like. orchid wants to love someone too. and that may be out of reach but you definitely can't say we live a loveless existence bc there are these healthy, communicative dynamics in place that are a safe zone. orchid often recedes and allows the four of us to just fuck around, it's very typically two or more of us fronting sometimes all four at once it's a pretty bang up job of integration bc prior to like 2021 communication among us was very stunted, blocked off, or vague and our identities hadn't fully congealed into our current setup which has been pretty consistent since like 2021 when we unrepressed the whole DID thing with help from aforementioned ex. but like. intrasystem shit is one thing but the ability to switch out intentionally or unintentionally and have someone there who just. knows. who we all are what our personalities and preferences and love languages are the space to cultivate a host of different dynamics in an intimate space with all of them being beheld as equally real, unique, legitimate, valid... we could try. we could try to teach someone without this internal experience how we work and maybe they'll be receptive and won't think we're doing some kind of LARP or whatever they'll be able to treat us all as people...we want to give that gift of love in multiplicity again. it is the deepest most vulnerable most healing thing we have experienced. what a thing to lose. our fault. but we will do better for the next person the only question is if the next person will fucking be able to keep up with us. will we have to offer a watered down, flattened version of ourself to them? not talk about when we switch, when there's multiple of us at once, assume that mask that we wear around everyone else where they call us all by one name and don't differentiate among us? as I have learned integration is not fusion we have integrated well but we are all very separate beasts and none of us want to hide behind the face of orchid who can barely handle fronting for more than a few hours at a time... our multiplicity is the root of our resilience. who will claim us
as we are?
if that never happens again so be it. we had the privilege of it once and at the very least we can be a self-sustaining circuit for as long as we need.

Well. An essay about what makes me enthusiastic about podcasts? Sounds lovely, here we go:
I love fiction podcasts most when they're fiction p o d c a s t s
My all time favourite podcast is Spines, because it absolutely masters the art of being aware of its own medium. Spines is not just some fictive audio drama that happens to be published in podcast form, the podcast form is diegetical. Our protagonist, Wren, uploads her reports into our podcatchers or RSS feeds, which sometimes means that she tells the terrible things that have happened right upfront at the beginning of an episode, instead of building up suspense until it happens at the climax. Because that's how you make a fucking report. You want your audience to get the important info right away, and then you can tell the details. Gosh. I really darn love that!
Another great thing about this is that you always know exactly whom Wren is talking to, or rather for whom she recorded her podcasts. This is similar to another podcast I absolutely adore: Within the Wires. Within the Wires works with found audio from an alternate history, and each season presents a totally new type of audio for a very different type of audience. Be it a kind of prisoner about to break out (season one), the anonymous audience of museum audioguides (season two), or someone's answering machine (season five - my absolute fav!), the authors of Within the Wires are always perfectly aware of their narrative's recipient.
And then, of course, there's Alice Isn't Dead, a show that works perfectly because the protagonist does not care who her audience might be. She just broadcasts her reports out into the anonymous nothing of radio frequencies, somehow hoping that her missing wife might hear her. Which is so darn poetic!
Of course, this is not the only thing I love about fiction podcasts. I mean, I love The Magnus Archives although I (being amidst season three) never really understood why the hell they are making audio recordings in the first place and - more importantly - why the fuck they always leave their tape recorders running! I mean, imagine you are indeed an in-world student that needs to hear some of the Magnus Institutes' collection, and the you find yourself catching, say, a telephone call of the head archivist with some police woman about to storm some weird cult's headquarters? I mean, what the fuck would that feel like?!
But seriously, The Magnus Archives clearly focuses on other points of its narrative, and because it's so darn great at what it does, I most happily glance over all questions regarding the hows and whys of its stories being told in audio form. And of course I also can enjoy myself some good old audio drama like Re: Dracula or Victoricity, that do not need to justify their audio nature in any form. But the quickest way for a podcast to win my heart will always be to show me that you fucking know why you're telling your story via podcast.
My favourite way of choosing podcast to listen to is seeing people being batshit crazy, extremely enthusiastic, writing serious interpretations and silly posts about it, posting fanart, etc.
So, audio drama folks, please reblog this and write me some amazing stuff about your favourite podcasts. It can be honest recommendation! Maybe some blorbo thoughts about your fav character! Or deep reflection about themes and motifs! Whatever you would like to share with someone but didn’t have a chance to. Don’t worry about me knowing what you talking about, just pure your little podcast heart for me, pretty please. (And of course as always official podcast accounts are welcome to join!)

///another vent
cw: mention of murder/violence, demonization DID, mention of the movie split, mention of graverobbing/corpse theft (with regard to a fictive's source), mention of the dream smp
tried talking more about what it's like being us to an acquaintance and they were basically like "oh i accept it... as long as you dont go all Murder Personality like Split on me LOL"
im. speechless. i thought this person like... knew things about how identity disorders worked beyond those shitty horrible media depictions. this person knows the sources for a lot of our OC introjects, and a lot of those characters, in canon, are Pretty Evil, to be completely honest.
but fictives are NOT their sources.
there's a cw up there for grave robbery. one of our fictives was in fact a victor-frankenstein-type graverobber scientist in his source. he committed crimes against the natural order (in addition to other scientific crimes) but our fictive of him literally would never even think about doing those things. sure he gets a bit silly and still has a strong interest in science, death, and anatomy. but joking around that "oh no one day you're gonna snap and he's gonna take over and kill me then reanimate me" is. fucking tiring.
schuyler and i are both fictives of OCs inspired heavily by mcyt characters. so is the hound. our friends don't exactly love the dream smp (which, fair, its online presence is not that great and the content creators have Done Things /neg) so schuyler literally refuses to reveal his source. those friends have asked what he was inspired by, and he refuses to give consent to the host to reveal his source.
i don't know. it just hurts having to be so inauthentic. hiding away more than half of ourselves all the time. our friend will be like "woah that came out in the fritz voice lol!" and we have to just smile and laugh it off. because the moment we actually reveal that fritz is here (and co-con, or at least Very Strongly Present), we get seen as a threat.

1) How many system members are there?
10 ish! Sabbie, Iris, Victor, Polynesia, Cleo, Robin, Moss, Adeline, Echo, Blank, and then a semi-dormant member named Aria
2) Youngest member? Oldest?
We are all around the same age, however Moss and Polynesia are age sliders, but the members who have been around the longest are Aria and Sabbie
3) Any friendships within the system?
We are all super close, however Sabbie and Iris are the closest, along with Cleo and Robin. Adeline is somewhat of a loner and the only member they like to interact with is Moss
4) Any relationships within the system?
No romantic/sexual relationships however, a lot of our dynamics are sibling-like
5) Does your system have a name?
We currently don't have a solid name right now, but we used to use the name The Little Dipper System
6) Any fictives or factives in the system?
Adeline and Iris are somewhat fictives of our own ocs
7) What does the headspace/inner world look like? Is it just one building/area, several, or more?
It's a building/area with rooms for each member, with another large living room representing the "fronting room"
8) Do members have separate rooms/areas? Does anyone share a room?
Yes! we do have seperate areas, and sometimes more social members like to share rooms in like sleepovers
9) Any unused rooms/areas?
None that we've found yet!
10) Unexplored rooms/areas?
Echo's and Blank's rooms are usually locked/we don't go in there
11) Who likes/dislikes being in the headspace/inner world?
Echo and Blank constantly try to front, but they are detrimental to the body's health so we try and stop them
12) Any members who never leave the headspace/inner world?
Cleo and Moss almost never leave
13) What do members do in the headspace?
Depends on the member hahaha, but usually just staying in their respective rooms or talking with one another
14) Is anyone religious? What are their religions?
Overall we could be considered somewhat pagan, but nothing specific
15) Who cofronts the most often (what group/pair)?
The "Three muskateers" Iris, Sabbie and Victor, or just Sabbie and Iris or Sabbie and Victor, Polynesia and Robin are another pair
16) Are there any otherkin in the system?
Nope!
17) What is something that system members have very different opinions on?
Gender expression, music tastes, makeup, and food
18) Does anyone talk with a different voice in the outer world? In the inner world?
In the inner world, Blank, Echo, Victor and in the outer world, none
19) Favourite part of the inner world/headspace?
The "fronting room" is really cool! (sabbie typing rn btw :D)
20) Least favourite part of the inner world/headspace?
Wherever echo and blank are
21) Running jokes within the system?
Victor is the only member who uses he/him, so we call him like the token man, the fact that a lot of the member's names sound like cheesey YA dystopian main characters, how we all love piccrews, and a bunch of other stupid meme stuff
Multiple System Ask Meme

Discussing 3 performances @ ‘Friendly Confrontations - Festival of Global Art and Criticism of Institutions,’ hosted by Münchner Kammerspiele (2020-01-16[-19])
Discussed performances: ‘Operation Sunken Sea’ by Heba Y. Amin; ‘Metabit:Metapixel:Metadimension’ by Onyx Ashanti; ‘Birding the Anthropocene’ by Nadir Sourigi Festival curated by: Julia Grosse and Julian Warner
Conversants: The Bensplainer and Victor Sternweiler
... sitting @ Kammerspiele’s Canteen.
The Bensplainer: We just saw the first two performances.
Victor: The first performance was by Heba Y. Amin, ‘Operation Sunken Sea,’ @ Kammer 3. She’s an Egyptian artist and lecturer living in Berlin. I once attended a performance of hers, which I found very interesting, so I was eager to be here today. The Kammer 3 was designed as follows. There was a rather large projection canvas in the centre functioning as a backcloth, and also two hanging banners from the ceiling, with a cheap logo printed on them, derived from the Mediterranean’s Sea cartography by the 10th century Persian geographer Al-Istakhri. In the foreground there was a simple speaker’s podium with a huge bouquet of flowers. On its side, two flags on poles, recalling the banners in the background. Apart from the bouquet, the scene gave an impression of a black monochrome. Between the audience’s seats, two cameras also stood there.
The Bensplainer: Isn’t it typical, I mean, for recording?
Victor: No, normally cameras are placed behind the audience at Kammerspiele.
The Bensplainer: So they were part of the set. Amin’s performance was divided into two main moments. During the first one, she was not present, instead some historical footage was projected onto the blank canvas in the background. It was a collection of different forms of speeches by 20th century political leaders, dealing with the Mediterranean Sea as a place for social, economical and war related issues.
Victor: The projection consisted of six audiovisual documents in a row, all in b/w, showing speeches by Italian Benito Mussolini, an Egyptian political activist whom I did not identify…
The Bensplainer: Me neither.
Victor: … Egypt’s Gamal Nasser, UK’s Robert Eden, US’s Dwight Eisenhower, and Turkey’s Recep Erdogan. Mussolini’s speech during a rally was about Italian Imperialism in the Mediterranean Sea. Nasser, Eden and Eisenhower’s speeches referred to the contemporary Suez Canal crisis. Specifically, Nasser addressed the theme of independence from US money. Eden addressed Nasser’s unreliability and stressed the economical relevance of the Suez Canal for Western interests.
The Bensplainer: I was quite impressed by Eden’s speech, as he seemed to threaten Egypt with war for a simple reason: oil. The Suez Canal was actually the way through which oil barrels could have been delivered to Western Europe. It made me think how today the threat of war is based on fictive ideology (defense of democracy or whatever), when it is actually a question of resources. That guy Eden was quite clear and paradoxically honest: we do war for economical reasons. On the contrary, a more ideological speech on the crisis was delivered by Eisenhower, I think at the UN in New York.
Victor: And finally, the Erdogan’s speech, more recent of course, but still in b/w, was about the construction of a new canal between the Black and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Bensplainer: This first moment, the projection ended, and the artist entered the stage, she went behind the speaker’s podium. Thus, HER performance began. All the set up—the stage design and the footage—suggested she was going to play the character of a political leader, dressed up in accordance with an official assembly’s speech. Then she started reading from her paper.
Victor: She adopted the character of a political leader from a North African country (it was not specified which one, again due to the fictive logos on banners and flags). Her speech was a collage of the previous speeches—using the exact propagandistic phrases and chunks as a vocabulary to formulated another speech—intertwined with pseudo-utopian statements by the German architect, Herman Sörgel, who in the 1920s developed Atlantropa, a colossal engineering project aimed at draining the Mediterranean Sea—that later info I got from the press release as he was not mentioned during the performance itself. Thus, uniting the European and African continents, for the sake of European survival. So, the character played by Amin shifts the perspective, proposes to drain the sea and to move it to Sahara.
The Bensplainer: At the very beginning of her speech I was very excited, because I was expecting a parodic function in her delivering speech. You know? You set the premises—the stage design and the actual words by political leaders—in order to play with them and somehow to try to estrange them too. But as a whole it somehow failed: in order to bring the issues, the material, to the point of absurdity, it would have been more insightful if she also parodied the charisma, the styles, the gestures, of the political leaders shown before.
Victor: Yes, the absurdity is very evident, but Amin didn’t act more or less then she usually would ‘act’ in her other (lecture) performances. She wasn’t really acting, thus transcending emotions, like those other leaders did. I think that stage in a house like that really demanded a better actor and I would have loved to see somebody from the Kammerspiele assembly doing her part. There one could see the inherent institution critique: you ‘have’ to literally perform your very own work yourself, or it is easier to make work which you can perform by yourself, because there are very few institutions which are able to inivite work that requires the invitation of several people. I think Kammerspiele initiatives have a bigger budget than at least half of the art institutions that invite her. At the end, it was a bit unconvincing as she was probably performing that piece for the 30th time.
The Bensplainer: On the other hand, Amin wanted to embody this character as a political stance and from the perspective of a non European artist. Just using her body as a statement. But ideas didn’t help the acting after all.
The Bensplainer: The second performance we attended was Onyx Ashanti, ‘Metabit:Metapixel:Metadimension,’ @ Workshop Kammerspiele. It was staged—if you could say it was staged—in the unconventional setting of one of Kammerspiele’s workshops. Onyx Ashanti took a portion of the space and made it very comfy, with seats, pillows, carpets, all around his station and working gears, computers, screens, beamers, a 3D printer. He wore his personal set of gadgets, sensors designed and produced by himself, able to fit onto his body. These were connected to an A.I., programmed also by him to produce music based on his body’s vibration.
Victor:I actually know his work from YouTube. So, he was sitting on the floor and around him, some small tables and created a place where he could work. People who just came in could sit on the pillows around the U-form table set. There was no start or an ending, you simply approached him, while he was working or interacting with his guests, answering questions and so on. A very comfortable situation, which made it more like a studio visit rather than a performance. And he had somebody bring him a beer.
Tumblr media
The Bensplainer: Of course, there was a vast range of questions you could ask, especially about his ongoing practice with A.I.,the body and music. This was somehow the device that activated his ‘studio visit’ performance. On one hand, it dealt with personal issues and his DIY attitude of the moment. On the other hand, the way he did wasn’t really direct, and I loved it. For instance, his answers to our questions were often metaphorical. It was inspiring, because I felt active, even if only listening to him. Also his body language was intense, because the way he moved, the way he talked, was very energetic and insightful. So, in a way, it was a performance, but, as you said, he managed to make us feel we were participating in a studio visit.
Victor: It was a studio visit because he arranged the space so that he could have continued working, even if nobody would have interacted with him. I loved how he subverted the system of the hired artist, coming for a gig, being paid and then leaving. He was using Kammerspiele practically and the time slot for his gig as a working space and an opportunity to work.
The Bensplainer: Very efficient! Working on his stuff, interacting with visitors, and performing for the theater, all at once! And everybody was engaged. Apart from that, he showed us a video addressing the relationship between his A.I./bodily generated music and ‘natural’ music. As he's living in Detroit and owning a little garden, he decided to let it grow by itself. Thus it became a favorite spot for animals and insects. In this video, taken during the night, he and the crickets’ music intertwined their harmonies, with surprising effects. He stated that after some nights playing together, the crickets started to respond to his music, but I wasn’t really able to catch it properly from the video.
Victor: What’s charming is that he made music with the crickets for the sake of just doing it, only at a later point of time did he eventually documented it in the way you document a personal memory with your phone. How he described what happened, made me feel that it wasn’t important at the end, if it was believable or not: the storytelling was inspiring.
The Bensplainer: I know I’m always annoying bensplaining to all of you about Russian modernism. But still… the poet Velimir Khlebnikov’s father was a trained ornithologist and he was an expert too. In his last supersaga Zangezi (1922), Khlebnikov put in verse actual transliteration of birds’ songs. I don’t know if it makes sense to cite it here, but it came to mind simply by association.
The next day, The Bensplainer and Victor Sternweiler @ Brenner, having an espresso.
The Bensplainer: On a snowy Sunday morning, we went birdwatching. Spooky Khlebnikov!
Victor: It was Nadir Sourigi, ‘Birding the Anthropocene,’ @ Praterinsel. Literally birdwatching, with a ‘but.’ The New York based artist and an ornithology pedagogue Sourigi picked up the group at the Kammerspiele and then we all went together to the Isar, to the Praterinsel. The idea somehow theatricalized birdwatching tours.
The Bensplainer: I think that it is what Sourigi does, being an artist and an ornithologist, and prefers to do birdwatching with non-white communities in Harlem, those who are underpriviledged. His practice joins birdwatching to related historical and critical issues, the current state of environmental studies too. Of course, this tour was very active and people could freely interact with Sourigi.
Victor: At first he explained to us how urbanization had and has a strong impact on the bird population.
The Bensplainer: And while we were still on a bridge leading to Praterinsel, looking for birds, he also mentioned the catastrophic statistics that, alone in Germany, 75% of flying insects have disappeared in the last years.
Victor: All of a sudden, after introducing the attendees to some birdwatching techniques, Sourigi started to express his institutional critique: birdwatchers are basically white, and so are members of Life Preservation institutes. And then there were some people who really came for the birdwatching and had their binoculars. The educational system in itself poses barriers for non-white people to access this field of culture. At the same time, he initiated this birdwatching program with kids in Harlem, in order to make them aware of what’s happening near to their neighborhood: Central Park, even if near to Harlem, doesn’t belong to these kids’ spatial perspective.
The Bensplainer: Like as if it has invisible burdens—I think he used these words—at least some spots of the park.
Victor: But think about it: the Kammerspiele offers a birdwatching tour, so all participants are as white as in the US, as we learned. Instead of really doing birdwatching, he starts a conversation about racism, class, global capitalism and selective education. Issues hit you in the face. This estrangement rendered the tour artistic, if you want, not the facts in themselves. I also find interesting how he manages to increase non-white participation in ornithological tours, both in a social sense (as in Harlem) and in an artistic sense (as here at the Kammerspiele). Audiences and motivations are very diverse, but he somehow tries to get all together.

Okay, I have a lot to say. Buckle up.
Hank, Deimos, and Victor-- I should not have killed you. There were other ways to hurt Sanford without involving you three. I felt like nothing else would hurt him the way losing you guys would, but that doesn't make it any better. It was a horrible thing that I did to you. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. You guys trusted me, loved me even, and I betrayed that trust in the worst way. I understand if you hate me still.
Sanford-- Go fuck yourself. I don't know why you even humored our romance. You KNEW I wasn't of sound mind, and yet you felt like it was right to treat me like I knew what I was doing. I can't remember half of what we did together because I was drunk off my ass most of the time-- WHICH YOU ENABLED, BY THE WAY. Not only did you supply me with all I needed to piss away my already terrible mental health, you hated me for it. What the fuck was binding you to me? Why did you feel like you needed to keep buying me drinks? You could have just left and we'd BOTH have been better off! I'm so glad I killed you for good. I fucking hate you.
Sincerely, an angry 2BDamned fictive.
