Royal Godparents to Royal Godchildren
I did this list back in 2012, and got some great responses. I've updated and edited parts of the list. Again, any corrections and/or adds, message me! Thanks in advance!
When choosing godparents for their children, the parents often chose friends or other relatives. Often in royal circles, royals also pick other royals. Here’s a partial list. (Yes, I know some lists are incompelte as some of these royals’s godchildren are not royals themselves.) If you have any additions, please feel free to message me!

A very prominent princess is the Duchess of Albany's sister, Princess Elizabeth Louise Herminie Erica Pauline of Waldeck Pyrmont, who is so often with her sister in London. She lives with her stepmother and often stays with the Queen Regent of Holland the Duchess of Albany. At home the Princess Elizabeth is much liked. She is the favourite companion of her baby stepbrother, and all the young ladies in the town of Waldeck claim her as a friend, for they spend an afternoon once a week at the castle sewing for the poor, the Princess herself being the most industrious of them all. Like the Duchess of Albany, she has great Strength of character, and has a most sweet disposition.

House of Wied-Neuwied & of Hohenzollern: Princess Elisabeth of Wied
Elisabeth was born as the oldest child to Prince Hermann of Wied and his wife Princess Marie of Nassau-Weilburg. She was a niece of Grand Duke Adolphe of Luxemburg, Queen Sophia of Sweden, Princess Helene of Waldeck and Pyrmont as well as Countess Luitgarde of Solms-Laubach. Elisabeth was also the aunt of Prince of
Elisabeth was educated by Georg Sauerwein and Clara Schumann. She showed an interest in literature and music from an early age. If it had been up to her, she would have loved to become a teacher. At the age of 25, she spent time a Berlin court where she met Prince Karl Eitel of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, who became Prince of Romania in 1866 and King in 1881. Elisabeth had been considered to become the wife of The Prince of Wales at one point. Queen Victoria had actually desired the match and asked her daughter Empress Victoria to inspect Elisabeth. Victoria wrote back that she did not see Elisabeth fit to be queen nor to be to her brother’s liking while suggesting Alexandra of Denmark instead.
Elisabeth married Karl on November 15th, 1869, which made her Princess of Romania. The couple only had a daughter together, Maria. Unfortunately she died at the young age of only three. Her mother never really recovered from her loss. Due to the lack of heirs, her husband adopted his nephew Prince Ferdinand of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen in 1881.
Ferdinand soon had an affair with Elena Văcărescu. Elisabeth encouraged it despite knowing that Elena could never be more than a mistress to Ferdinand. When the affair was discovered, the two women were sent into exile and Ferdinand on a trip through Europe find a bride who he found in Princess Marie of Edinburgh, the daughter of The Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
Throughout her life Elisabeth authored several books under the pen name Carmen Sylva. She also translated Romanian books into German and promoted the country and its culture by doing so. Elisabeth was friends with Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary with whom she had much in common. For example, Elisabeth too was a liberal minded person who actually preferred a republic over a kingdom.
In her time as Romanian consort, she did a lot of charity work. For example, the Romanian National Society for the Blind was founded by her and she was the first royal patron of the Romanian Red Cross. During the Romanian War of Independence, she devoted herself to the care of the wounded and rewarded those who did likewise with her newly founded Cross of Queen Elisabeth.
Elisabeth died on March 2nd, 1916, in Bukarest. She rests in Curtea de Argeș. In her home of Neuwied, a school and a park are named after her.

Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany . Potential brides, marriage & children; . Prince Leopold was created Duke of Albany, Earl of Clarence & Baron Arklow on 24 May 1881. . ◼ Prince Leopold, stifled by the desire of his mother, Queen Victoria, to keep him at home, saw marriage as his only hope of independence. Due to his haemophilia, he had difficulty finding a wife. Heiress Daisy Maynard was one of the women he considered as a possible bride. He was acquainted with Alice Liddell, the daughter of the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford for whom Lewis Carroll wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, & was godfather of Alice’s second son, who was named for him. It has been suggested that he considered marrying her, though others suggest that he preferred her sister Edith (for whom he later served as pall-bearer on 30 June 1876). . ◼ Leopold also considered his second cousin Princess Frederica of Hanover for a bride; they instead became lifelong friends & confidantes. Other aristocratic women he pursued included Victoria of Baden, Princess Stéphanie of Belgium, Princess Elisabeth of Hesse-Kassel, & Princess Karoline Mathilde of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg. Leopold was very fond of Mary Burton, but, though she was very fond of him too, at 19, she felt she was too young to marry. . ◼ After rejection from these women, Victoria stepped in to bar what she saw as unsuitable possibilities. Insisting that the children of British monarchs should marry into other reigning Protestant families, Victoria suggested a meeting with Princess Helena Friederike, the daughter of Georg Viktor, reigning Prince of Waldeck-Pyrmont, one of whose daughters had already married King William III of the Netherlands. . ◼ On 27 April 1882, Leopold & Helena were married, at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, & his income was raised by parliament to £25,000. . ◼ Leopold & Helena enjoyed a happy (although brief) marriage. . ◼ On 25 February 1883, Leopold became a father when his wife gave birth to a daughter, Alice. . ◼ He died on 28 March 1884, shortly before the birth of his son, Charles Edward, born on 19 July 1884. . . .
