“There Maedhros in time was healed; for the fire of life was hot within him, and his strength was of the ancient world, such as those possessed who were nurtured in Valinor. His body recovered from his torment and became hale, but the shadow of his pain was in his heart; and he lived to wield his sword with left hand more deadly than his right had been.”
The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien

Tonight is a great night to think fondly on Haleth and Caranthir. I think they would make such a funny couple.
Imagine??? The Big Tall Broody Scowling Kinslayer Who Is Also The One Reason The Economy Is Functioning At All Between The Different Races/Elvish Factions Who Probably Is Dying To Tell King Thingol/His Cousins To Fuck Off At Any Given Moment and hes looming over this short human lady??
This short human lady that Can, Will, and Already Has told him to pull the stick out of his ass and bullies him into doing normal townsfolk chores??? Lord Carathir, Master Economist and a Weaver with the skill to rival his grandmother, sitting there and darning socks cause his tiny mortal wife told him too. His reward will be a kiss on the cheek but she'll scold him while he does it because he said a mean thing about his Cousin Finrod in his last letter to her while he KNEW Finrod was visiting her.
Only three things in the world keep Caranthir in check: His Eldest Brother, The Lord Himring, The Current Head of the Feanorian Faction of Noldor, and Former High King; the idea that if he didn't complete his brothers' tax paperwork and run the Trade Routes then the Nolofinweans and Arafinweans would become more economincally important And We Cant Have That; and his 4'11 wife he met bloodied and wrathful on a battlefield screaming at an orc over the corpse of her brother-- it was love at first sight
#caranthir#haleth#halenthir#silmarillion#amber rambles#I honestly just love them they would be such a power couple like i can see them at banquets looking untouchable#but theyre just bitching about the other guests over wine#In my mind they are the country/goth couple of the year#Cara is used to things like this cause he grew up with Feanor and Nerdanel and they don't believe in servants#and also spent a lot of time camping while he was growing up so Cara is used to roughing it he just Doesnt Like To#but here is his tiny mortal wife like Oh My Poor Spoiled Richling Of A Husband lets get u doing some Real Work#he doesn't correct her cause he thinks its funny when she does it in front of other Noldor#cause everyone knows the Feanorians are by all accounts the least spoiled and down to earth out of all the Finweans#Cause everyone knew what Crown Prince Feanor was like

Shout out to Fingon for being the true MVP carrying the entire Noldor war effort in Valinor. Like imagine if he didn't want to go. Sorry Feanor but speeches can only get you so far Fingolfin won't come without his son, Finarfin dips either way and I doubt Finrod was gonna follow Feanor if not only his father but uncle, cousins and brothers choose to stay. Galadriel MAYBE but you know she's immediately just gonna ditch them the second they land in Losgar all this to say
damn Maedhros' pussy must've been enchanted–
#useless baggage my ass politically speaking they should've at least brought fingon when they sailed if tyelko can bring his freaking vala#vala ordained dog they have room for the popular warrior elf who's close to the crown prince#tolkien#silmarillion#fingon#findekano#feanor#fingolfin#finarfin#finrod felagund#galadriel#maedhros#meta#once again it was up to the power of russingon to prevent a noldor civil war#silm crack#mp

Can i share something that happened to me last year
I'm minding my own business and this guy who I kind of know but wouldn't really consider myself friends with (trauma bonded on a school trip last year and haven't spoken since) comes up to me like hey, what are you doing? And I say: world-building the ancient history of Lord of the Rings. And then I proceed to tell him all about the various genocides of the first age, with a side note on Maedhros' Quenya name, which literally means 'the hot redhead who's third in line for the throne', with his mother name meaning 'hot damn', his father name meaning 'third of the king's name' and his nickname meaning 'redhead'. Then I explain that loads of elves get nicknames, like Gil-Galad and other people who I can't remember.
And he goes cool, can I have an elvish nickname? And I say sure, what do you want it to mean?
And he goes: big daddy
and I don't know what's more embarrassing: a) he thought that, b) he asked that, or c) I could translate that off the top of my head.
#In Sindarin: Belegada#In Quenya: Poldatya or Poldatto#both Beleg and Polda refer not only to 'big' as in size#but also in the sense that a big daddy is powerful mighty influential etc#also 'daddy' in elvish - ada atya or atto - doesn't have the same connotations of a rich sugar daddy kind of providing figure#(or if it does jirt mcCatholic the conservative and repressed definately didn't put that in Laws and Customs of the Eldar)#modern english only uses 'father' as in 'estranged dickhead sperm donor'#and 'daddy' as in 'I wear what he wants and he takes such good care of meee~ I'm a little kitten I'll follow this toxic man anywhere <3'#elvish uses 'daddy' as in 'actual pure innocent child addressing their dad get your head out of the gutter'#and 'father' as in 'lord and leader first and greatest of us all I pledge my undying loyalty to thee#i will follow thee to the ends of arda for thy wisdom is unrivalled and thou art noble and fair and glorious in thy wrath#i place my faith in thee my lord my prince my king for i know thou shalt not lead me astray...'#then the doom of the noldor happens and everyone dies in agony#anyway this is effectively the same as 'ill do as my daddy says because i love him so much~~~'#so it would better fit the spirit of 'big daddy' to actually say 'great/noble father' in elvish?#but im not telling my dumbass friend that he can walk around like an idiot and be proud of his poorly-translated epessë#like the pretentious but secretly insecure ass he secretly is

I would be,, Very Interested if you have any more to share 👀,, in hearing more headcanons on Noldorin hair like the ones you put under your Edrahil drawing
I might actually have some more...
There would be three to four braids; age braid, status braid, craft braid, and a holder. There can also be fifth+ braids, ornaments braids, but that´s more of a fashion thing. And then of course the soldier braid that´s only worn on duty or in battle, and a few times in free time, like Edrahil does.
Edrahil
Age braid:
The braid in the front, the age braid, usually put down over the temple, can be used by everyone if they´re of age or noble blood.
The age braid is usually just used to show that someone is of age, but that doesn't mean that they´re an adult. It takes Noldor longer than Sindarin and Avarins to come of age but when either of these groups come of age, they´re still not adults. It is also used by noble families, no matter the age, to show status, so if a child is running around with an age braid that means that they´re of noble blood.
If it is someone working for a noble house, like a servant, they can´t wear both the age and status braid as they could be mistaken for being part of the household by others as the status braid would have to show which house they serve. They can however wear both when they don´t wear the mark of the house they serve.
Status braid:
Maglor´s, for example as I´m working on a drawing with him where the braids are included, status braid got a pendant at the end with the star of Feanor to tell which house he´s from while the age braid, in the front, explains that he´s a noble, not just a servant, so either the leader or a family member of the leader.
Close up on Maglor from the wip showing which braid is which and how it could look.
The status braid is kept behind the ears and usually falls down the back.
Craft braid:
The craft braid is kept at the back of the head, meaning there's only one of them whereas the age and status braid has two, one on each side of the head, which explains not the job, but which path it is.
There are different types of braid for most statuses and categories of jobs, like there´s one braid that tells if the person has political influence, or is a loremaster, which can mean both teacher and librarian or if they´re an artist, not what kind of artist so it could be a bard, painter, etc so usually, there are clips or jewels that say precisely what it is.
The smith has their own braids because they´re so important in Noldor culture.
Holder:
The holder is a braid crown that can both be a simple braid, or a lot of braids woven into each other.
It starts right behind the ear, beside the age braid, and ends at the back of the head where some of it is sometimes let loose and other times put into ornaments braids, but no matter what, it always turns into a part of the craft braid, which means both the status and craft braids are braided from both the hair in the holder and sometimes some loose hair two.
Ornaments:
Usually, hair jewels also help to tell about the person, like ribbons, hairpins, combs etc. but they can also be used as just ornaments. When they´re used as only ornaments smaller extra braids are usually added too and mostly in noble households but not always.
Soldier braid:
Soldier braids are a way to braid hair out of the way; if there’s a fight all soldiers have their hair braided back and pulled into a braided bun, some choose to still have their symbols braids (the ones I´m trying to figure out a system for) out and others only braid some of it into a bun letting some lose, but it is a must to have a braided bun so that others don´t take you for a healer. If in wear of a helmet the bun is just moved down or there´s a small hole on top of the helmet for the bun.
extra note;
Children usually wear plain hairstyles like a normal braid or bubble ponytail which I drew child Caranthir with.
It is optinel to wear braids.
They were usually worn in daily life in Valinor though not always, and when they came to Beleriand it became more of a formal thing they did if something important happened, a party was held, a meeting, a person is of important status (like king or prince) etc. that only a few chose to wear daily.
#headcannon#noldor#noldor hair#tolkien#silmarillion#jrr tolkien#small note this is a loose longer take on it i havent desided yet but this is the thoughts i made over the few weeks ive been thing#when is say an important status like king or prince i mean they dont do it always but do a lot more than a simple lord would#all the more if they show theyre face public#a social presure of sorts#tolkien headcanons#no art just talk

Fave Queen Songs Except Bohemian Rhapsody: Poll #6
Hey, all! It's the first of March, which I hope will be a better month for all of us, and which is also my birthday month. I've been waiting for March for this particular match-up because I have the honor of sharing my birth month with "Princes of the Universe." So I wanted to kick off the month with that, following from "Under Pressure" vs "These are the Days of Our Lives."
Princes of the Universe: https://youtu.be/VEJ8lpCQbyw
Who Wants to Live Forever: https://youtu.be/_Jtpf8N5IDE
There can only be one!
#i love the videos for both honestly#they subtly recreated the who wants to live forever video at a queen concert i went to a few years ago and it was really cool!#though i also love them for being perfect for tolkien songs#yeah the instrumental takes are nice but the noldor theme song is absolutely 'princes of the universe'#and 'who wants to live forever' is aegnor's specifically :'(#anghraine babbles#my little piano: music is magic#poll nonsense#this is a queen appreciation blog#music#queen#highlander#princes of the universe#who wants to live forever

Something about Celegorm being Oromë's most well-known follower and Finwë being one of only three Elves to first follow Oromë into the West and Celegorm being the only person in the House of Fëanor described as having fair hair and Míriel being his only ancestor who was known to have anything other than dark or red hair.
#the valley is posting#do you think feanor ever looked at his third son and saw not just his parents but a child of theirs that never was#a child who might not perhaps have been the greatest of the noldor the epitome of the noldor dark and crafty and burning with spirit#and yet would still have been a child of miriel and of finwe#feanor as the ultimate noldo; the poster child of what it means to be noldo; the perfect image of a noldorin prince#but it's his son who is the image of his parents; far from what anyone would consider a noldo but the image of miriel and finwe nonetheless

*A determined Celegorm wooing his crush the Vala Oromë by holding a boom box up in front of his mighty Forest, playing with full blast “in the middle of the night” by Elley Duhé
In the background:
His brothers standing with him as “moral” support

Nerdanel: “Don’t look at me, I’m not the one who told him about when you did the exact same thing in front my father’s house”

Concept: Elrond is, by Middle-Earth standards, a perfectly respectable level of fancy. You know, he's an elf-lord, he has plenty of robes with intricate embroidery or layers of flowing fabric, he wears finely-crafted jewelry, especially during formal occasions. He's elegant, but not gaudy– there are some tasteful references to his various ancestors in his outfits, he's got a whole image. He assumes that this is like, standard for the Noldor.
What Elrond failed to realize when he sailed to Valinor is that the expectations for "Middle-Earth elf lord with vaguely Noldorian implications" and "Noldor prince in the Blessed Realm" are two very different things. He goes to a feast and everyone is dressed like they'll die if they're not wearing four layers of skirts and at least 20 pounds of gems and precious metals. He shows up to Finarfin's court wearing more jewelry than he ever would've worn in Rivendell and people still flash him strange looks and ask him whether he wasn't feeling up to dressing up that night. He'll braid his hair in the half-up half-down style he often wore in Rivendell and it'll cause a scandal because– gasp– Elrond had part of his hair loose. In public. Noldor keep giving him jewelry because they've collectively decided that he's clearly been deprived in Middle Earth. He's confused and a little bit afraid, frankly.
Thankfully, most of the attention is taken off Elrond when Tirion is engulfed in drama the likes of which hasn't been seen for hundreds of years. The cause? Galadriel showing up in Tirion with her hair entirely loose, and no jewelry to speak of. Her robes are entirely plain. Her only adornment is her unbearably smug smirk.
#silmarillion#silm headcanons#elrond#elrond peredhel#galadriel#noldor#valinor#elrond in valinor headcanons my beloved#the culture shock had to be something#the noldor love him they're just very weird about showing it#this is bordering on crack territory but I stand by it

#the fire was mostly an accident but only mostly#celegorm puts aredhel on huan's back and carries baby maeglin himself#celegorm is the third of seven he knows how to carry small children#and maeglin is way less squirmy than ambarussa were#maedhros fully believes the diplomatic incident is eloping with aredhel until he learns the rest#maedhros the tired: why couldn't you have just eloped. that would have been easier - @eleneressea
Maedhros: Of course they had a baby before telling anyone. At least a grandson will soothe Fingolfi--wait. WHAT.
thinking about Aredhel—she goes to Celegorm and Curufin's lands and stays there for a while waiting for them to come back, then gets bored and wanders off and eventually comes to Nan Elmoth (and we all know how that goes) but I was thinking: what if Celegorm went after her? He tracks her to Nan Elmoth eventually, and…
Eöl's sorceries are powerful, but Celegorm has Huan with him and is blessed by Oromë, so I don't think he gets nearly as turned around as Aredhel was. He finds her and Eöl, murders Eöl and burns down the forest behind him rescues her from his enchantments, and sends a letter to Maedhros going "found Aredhel, might have caused a diplomatic incident, also I may have a son now."
#tolkien#There is of course a political kerfuffle over Maeglin#Thingol tries to insist that the heir presumptive of Nan Elmoth should be raised in sindarin culture#Fingolfin cheerfully writes (with Maeglin on his lap) telling him that if Thingol wants to foster Fingolfin's grandson#then he (thingol) will need to come pick him up in person from barad eithel. With honors befitting a prince of the ruling line of the noldor#(Celegorm has a quiet word with Cururfin and lands Maeglin a summer internship with some dwarves instead)
