The rabbit shifters and the werewolves have had a truce for centuries. Our burrow sets three of our kind loose in the woods on Easter to be hunted, to be slaughtered like the prey we are.

Then, the wolves leave us alone for the rest of the year. 

When I’m selected as a sacrifice for this twisted tradition, I refuse to be another victim. All it takes is an abandoned cabin in the woods, an old ax, and the unexpecting wolves thinking I’m an easy target like all the rest.

The silver wolf is the only one who doesn’t underestimate me. It’s just my luck that when I scent him… I go into heat, and his inner beast chooses me for its mate. 

Too bad we want each other dead.

Review:

She's a a rabbit shifter sent as the new sacrifice to the hungry wolves... except this particular wolf wants her all for himself. Ruth is a rabbit shifter who's entire burrow has had a peace treaty with werewolf shifters... that all hinges on the fact that every year 3 rabbit shifters would be sacrificed to be eaten and hunted by the wolves. When Ruth is selected as a sacrifice she is determined to not go down without a fight and will do anything it takes to stay alive. Carver is a werewolf shifter who is an outcast in his pack, having no real connection with his wolf side... until he meets Ruth when getting ready to set the sacrifices out. Her ruthless nature, her determination to survive, and her beauty all captivate him and awaken the wolf in him. For once in his life his wolf is talking to him and it's telling him that she is his mate... but wolves and rabbits are not meant to be mates... and in this twisted tradition between their clans he is meant to kill her yet all everything in him is telling him to keep her for himself and destroy anyone that gets between them. It's an impossible love between two people who have both murdered those close to the other... yet in this twisted romance they are both perfectly made for one another. The way I completely devoured this book, it was EVERYTHING. It's the twisted love story that I absolutely love and the constant battle between the two characters was great. The undeniable pull between them was so well written and the romance was so good. I really can't get enough of this book and this couple was an absolute delight to read. I love how ruthless and determined to survive Ruth was, and I loved that thats what Carver absolutely adored about her. Ruth was an amazing protagonist who fought tooth and claw to survive, her will to live was amazing. I seriously loved this book and would absolutely recommend it for anyone who enjoys a dark romance with a shifter twist!! It seriously takes enemies to lovers to the extreme perfect state.

I LOVE the ominous nature of the prey. Is it a symptom of Honeyspring’s haunting? A warning from Starclan being ignored to avoid uncomfortable memories? Whatever it is, it really makes it clear how series and ever-present the danger is. A really excellent detail :D

Took a piece from my sketchbook & reinked it digitally while being sure to crank the idea to 11. It did not begin as a Watership Down work but the quote felt very appropriate. It's a marvelous book. This art might mark the first complete work with a boxwolf.

I've already spoke in length about Orym's self-sacrificial tendencies in my 'Orym is a rabbit' post, but don't think I've forgotten about Miss Horse Girl giving Iphigenia vibes over here I just have some concerns about Imogen, whether willingly or forced, becoming a vessel for Predathos (you know, the same entity that Orym tried to comprehend for a single heartbeat and began screaming uncontrollably, had to be cradled like an infant by the Wildmother while he sobbed, and now something inside of him is irreversibly broken). Like I just think that letting an eldritch monster of hunger and oblivion possess you is maybe not a great idea?

One is a rabbit pushing his head willingly into the snare, the other is an ancient Greek princess about to be sacrificed on the altar so the war may continue, and I am asking them both very nicely to Please Stop That and Not Die 🙏💕

Questioning a predatory theriotype until I see a post that's about eating or attacking rabbits (ITS ALWAYS RABBITS)

It makes me so sad because like what did that sweet thing in the burrow do to you? :( or that one picture of the wolf with a rabbit just hanging in its mouth like, that's literally me that you're eating.

I say that like I don't have an insane prey drive every time I see something that might possibly run from me, teehee
