Excerpt: The Hands That Wield the Sword
This must be a fucking test. The rain, the moblins and bokoblins, and the fucking octoroks He can’t even climb the walls surrounding the river with the rain. It’s been hours of dredging on the path. “The path is straight, there’s just a few monsters, oh you’re so handsome and strong!” he mouthed moving his arms up and down in an imitation of Sidon (Link might’ve added that “handsome.”) Of course the path would be straight and easy if you were a giant red predator with the mouth full of shark teeth and a four-foot stride. Even the stupidest lizalfos would take a single look at him and run. He’s a Zora! They swim! He wouldn’t need to walk on the trail, he can just swim! Link walks onto the rock crossing bow at the ready and hears a splash below him immediately letting the arrow fly before he could be hit by anything else.
“You stay quite vigilant, my friend!” speak of the devil and the giant red shark man will appear. Link was too bogged down by the rain and the lingering scent of lizalfos blood on him, but he leaned over the edge of the bridge to see the Zora. His smile wasn’t blinding this time, but it brings a little warmth to Link’s toes.
“All the fucking octoroks in this river,” he signs, “Sorry? Didn’t expect you to meet me so soon.”
“I do apologize! I haven’t walked along the path in some time, and the octoroks in the river do not usually bother the Zora.” Theory confirmed. ”If I had known it would prove difficult, I would’ve asked for an additional escort for you!” Sidon smiles and Link decides that the breathy sound coming from his mouth and his gills was a laugh.
“Don’t mind.” Link shrugs and grins devilishly. “I like a challenge.” The next sound the Zora made was something between a choke and a cough and did not sound like a laugh at all.

Lessons in Herbology
Azriel X Reader
Synopsis: You and Azriel are frequently at odds with one another but when Azriel accidently destroys your life's work, the illyrian will do anything to make it up to you.
Warnings: Angst, Smut, scratching? biting
A/N: Alrighty we got some frenemies smut situation going on hehe let me know what you think friends!
-----------------------------------------
“AZRIEL!” You screamed from the top of the stairs of the Town House, your voice carried through the whole house and practically into the neighbour's. You had never been so angry with him in your life, with real thoughts that you were going to kill him. You quickly stepped down the stairs, your gait heavily weighted with rage.
“Gods YN, I was in the kitchen not Summer Court” Azriel laughed, meeting you at the bottom of the stairs. His eyes landed on the shredded manuscript you held in your hand, his eyes moved from the ribbons of paper to your enraged eyes. Azriel bolted towards the lounge where your friends sat alarmed at the volume of your voice and pace of Azriels sprint. You darted after him only to have a weight thrown into your stomach, hoisting you off your feet and over a broad shoulder.
“CASS! PUT ME DOWN” Cassian held you as you tried to wriggle from the fireman-style hold, some of the shreds of paper flying around the room.
“Calm down YN we can fix whatever it is - Gods stop hitting me!” he fought against the urge to drop you, Azriel taking sanctuary stood behind the sofa. You allow your body to go limp, forcing a deep breath from your lungs until they empty.
“What on Prythian is going on in here? I heard the shouting from the end of the garden?” Rhysand entered the lounge to his friends, concern and humour painted his face.
“He shredded my FINAL DRAFT of the medicinal encyclopedia I was writing to finally finish my fucking healer apprenticeship” the group inhaled sharply at the severity. You had been working on that for months, it needed to be submitted in a week, eyes all then landing on Azriel.
“I didn’t mean to! I was looking for something in your room and my shadows got a bit frantic at the urgency and-” “-What the hell were you doing in my room?!” you still hung over Cassian's shoulder, simmering in anger.
“-I was looking for Truth Teller AFTER YOU USED IT TO CUT UP HERB SAMPLES” Azriels own voice raising, remembering the disrespect you had shown him the week previously.
“-I’M GOING TO KILL YOU SHADOWSINGER” You began thrashing again, Cassian's fingers burying into your hips.
“Would you two hurry up and have sex already?” The room's eyes landed on a very bored Amren as she rose and made her exit. You breathed deeply out once again.
“Okay, okay, I am calm, I am zen, put me down”
“Ehh I don’t think-”
“I SAID I’M FUCKING ZEN-” you coughed after shouting, clearing your throat before speaking again “-Ahem, I mean, Cassian, if you would please return me to the ground, I am Zen” Cassian glanced at Azriel who looked genuinely terrified.
“Okay, no killing Az though, he owes me a drink-”
“Wow thanks, Cass, my life is only worth a glass of whiskey” Azriel rolled his eyes to his brother as Cassian lowered you to the ground. You ran your hands down the front of your trousers, breathing out until the blood rush from being upside down released itself.
The inner circle watched as you moved towards the kitchen, Azriel remaining behind the sofa as a buffer. You returned a jug of water and the broom, no one taking their eyes off you.
“Cass, please help me with this for a moment” You stood on the edge of the opposite sofa to Azriel, placing the mouth of the jug flush to the roof, the broom then pushed at the base supporting the jug. You gestured with your head for Cassian to take hold of the broom, allowing you to release the jug, its weight now supported by Cassian holding the broom.
“Now, don’t move or you’ll soak the place Cass-”
“-wait what?” Cassian's confusion was cut off by your sudden movement darting towards Azriel.
“COME HERE AZRIEL!” you flew over the sofa that was protecting Azriel, slamming into his chest and sending him flying to the ground, Cassian was completely caught off guard and unsure of what to do, looking between the jug and his two friends near killing one another. Mor, Rhysand and Feyre keeled over with laughter.
—---------------------------
You lay flat on your bed, staring up at the ceiling, the magnitude of the workload ahead of you washing over you. You left a soaked Cassian to mop up the water after Rhysand finally caught his breath from laughing to separate you from Azriel. You allowed the tears to fall down your cheeks, unable to hold them in any longer.
You pinched the bridge of your nose, sighing while trying to pull the tears back in, a knock gently tapping off your oak door. You silently hoped it was Cassian or Feyre, wishing to openly cry into their arms at your future dissolving in front of your eyes. You opened the door, Azriel blowing in the door passed you before you could close it on him. You were shocked as you closed the door gently so as not to wake the rest of the house, Azriel pacing your room.
“Azriel, please go, I just can’t with you right now” “YN, I am so so s- were you crying?” you span away from him, drifting over towards your bed, climbing into the centre of the shredded paper nest you had made.
“Look, I’m really sorry about the manuscript, normally I wouldn’t care if I drove you this insane but I really didn’t set out to ruin your manuscript as some sort of vendetta-” “You’re rambling Az” “Sorry sorry, long story short I’m here to help you rewrite the whole thing-” your laugh at his words cutting him off before he continued, sitting at the edge of your bed to continue his plea.
“I know I don’t know anything about healing other than what not to do but I can write a lot faster than you and I know you hate me right now but I’m still your friend in a weird us kinda way right?” you didn’t have a reply to that. You and Azriel frequently fought but you were still friends beneath it all.
You didn't expect your body to move towards his, exhaustion and stress perhaps blurring your thought process. You wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug, his arms wrapping around your waist returning the sentiment. You fought against your body again, losing the fight as tears began to fall from your waterline once again.
“I am a terrible friend” he whispered into your hair, feeling the scope of the burden his haste had brought you.
“Yeah, you kinda are” You laughed through your tears, your joking tone returned the lightness to Azriels chest. Silence fell around the room, you both just taking a moment to hold one another in ease, a new sense of comfort growing between you both.
You separated, moving deeper into the bed, handing him blank sheets and a pen as you wiped your tears with your sleeve. Azriel slid into the bed alongside you and after a quick debrief, you both began the work of diving into herbology.
You both wrote and researched until three in the morning rolled around, and your eyes grew heavy, sleep fighting your need to keep writing.
“Okay YN, that’s enough” Azriel barely whispered as your eyes finally lost the fight. Your weight fell softly into Azriels side as he gently pulled the pen and paper from your hand. His shadows swept up the stray sheets into a pile on the floor before they pulled a throw blanket from the base of the bed over the both of you. Azriel too tired to fight their mother-hen energy.
—----------------------------
The sunlight crossed your eyes as you rested into Azriels chest causing you to squint into the unforgiving rays. You rolled into Azriels side tighter, further tangling your legs together with a groan of comfort. You then shot upwards in the bed.
“Gods YN what's wrong?” he stretched the words out while straightening his arms out above his head, his eyes adjusting to the light.
“I just woke up next to you is what's wrong! Leave before someone sees you, they'll never let it go” “YN don’t be annoying, nothing happened-” he rolled back towards you, reaching his arm across your abdomen and pulling you back into the mattress “-you were blocking the sun from my eyes a minute ago” You hit him gently into the chest laughing at his dumb smirk and yet you obeyed.
“OH MY GODS I NEED TO FINISH WRITING” You shot back up remembering the mammoth workload ahead of you, Azriel being sent flying towards the floor with your sudden upward movement.
“Okay okay fucking hell, I'll go get you a coffee” he half laughed, pushing himself from the ground and quietly out into the hall.
Azriel strode down the stairs, feeling weirdly warm towards the thoughts of this morning.
“Hey Az, do you-” “Nothing! I did nothing” Cassian raised an eyebrow to the spymaster's rushed and unusually uncontrolled response.
“Okay, I’m going to choose to pretend that wasn’t incredibly suspicious” he laughed from the lounge where he sipped his coffee.
“Wait, I thought you went to the House of Wind last night”
“Yeah I was but then YN and I fell asleep after-” “After what Az? Wait, did you just come out of her room?” he couldn’t hide the giddy smug tone coating his words.
“No no no” Azriel tried to brush him off, moving into the kitchen with Cassian hot on his heels.
“Azriel, did you and YN-” “-Cassian! Do not finish that sentence!” Azriel scrunched his eyes together before reaching for a coffee mug from the press.
“Az, you don’t drink coffee” Cassian smirk now turning to a blinding grin.
“It's for YN and before you start, I was helping her with her manuscript and then we fell asleep, literally nothing else happened” Azriel boiled the water, still refusing to turn to face the Illyrian warrior.
“Did you want something to happen Az? Was it a lesson in Chemistry instead of a lesson in Herbology?” The question caught him entirely off guard, dropping the pouch of coffee granules into the sink with a swear.
“Ohhhhh Azie like YNN-ie”
“Shh she could hear you” he whipped around to his brother with panic at his teasing tone.
“Oh shit you didn’t deny it” Cassin punched Azriel’s arm playfully but harder than intended, some element of his protective nature rearing its head.
“Look, I don’t know, you know I don’t know, I just find her mesmerising but also a mind-altering amount of frustrating”
“Ohh Az you got it so bad for her” he pushed Azriel coltishly again. Azriel returned to finishing the coffee, the noticeable silence from his brother raising a question in his mind. Azriel turned back to find Cassian's eyes fixed heavily onto the ground, now unable to meet his eye.
“Cass…what do you know?”
“N-nothing” Azriel only raised an eyebrow in response, he would always be able to spot a lie, especially with Cassian. Azriel caught Cassian's shoulders and forced him to look into his eyes
“Cassian, you need to tell me right now if I even have the slightest of chances with YN'' The clear and definitive tone of Azriels voice was not lost on Cassian.
“Yeah Az, I kind of do know something” Cassian then proceeded to tell Aziel the story of you. How you liked him since you met four hundred years ago, how you believed you would never be like Mor in his eyes, how you knew you’d never be like Elain in his eyes, your fighting going into overdrive, especially at the time of Elains introduction to your world. How you tried to process and bury your feelings, choosing to stay his frenemy rather than ever risk losing him to unrequited feelings. At the end of it, Azriel felt awash with every and all emotion.
“So wait what about now, does she still feel those feelings?” “Do you want to be with her?”
“We’re not talking about me right now Cass, we’re talking about her! Well?!” “Yeah Az, she still does - Gods she's going to kill me where I stand” Azriel barely heard what was said after the confirmation of what he had secretly wanted for so long. He took a step back from Cass, shock colouring his face before he found his feet rushing him up the stairs and away from Cassian's calls to be careful.
You sat writing away, almost halfway complete with the rewrite as Azriel nearly lashed the door off the hinges and slammed it closed almost as hard. Azriel almost took two steps at a time as he closed the distance between you, he snatched the paper from your hands, throwing it any which way.
“Az what the fuck-” Your confused laugh was cut off as Azriel lunged forward, pushing you into the bed, and hovering above you. You looked into his hazel eyes, which seemed almost lit with fear before he leaned down and connected his lips to yours. You felt the stress he had caused you yesterday be instantly replaced with a pure lightness. He pulled back to look into your eyes again, his face the picture of apologies and petrification, not believing his actions.
“I am so sor-” You cut off his apology by pulling him back to meet you, him smiling into your lips as they met hurriedly.
“This-is-so-crazy” he breathes between kisses.
“It-could-get-crazier” You almost giggled into the breathy kisses, Azriels shadows responding to you by wrapping around your curves. You sat up from beneath him, only separating from him to pull your shirt from over your head, Azriel repeating the action with his own linen. You ran your hands down his chiselled bare chest and he began to nip at yours.
“Are you sure you want to do this YN?” you smiled at his kind eyes, placing a tender kiss in reassurance. As you separated his eyes had turned lustful, your hand reaching and grazing his bulge, gaining a slight groan from him. He promptly stood and removed his trousers as you kicked off your own, sliding further into the bed and beckoning him to follow you. You let out a whimper at the feeling of his teeth marbling your neck, marking you as his.
“I’m gonna give you such crap about that beautiful noise later YN” he grinned, abusing the spot that gained the noise causing more to leave you. He claimed the spot until dapples decorated your skin, the feeling of him hard against you was driving you crazy quickly. You bucked your hips up to meet him harder in sweet friction.
“Okay I can’t wait any longer, I need you, I really fucking need you” he panted, pulling his underwear down, unleashing his full glory, your mouth almost drying at the sight.
Azriel slowly inched into you, allowing you to adjust to the massive length of him, your nails digging into his shoulders in glorious pain. Azriel raised a hand above your head to support himself, your eyes squeezed shut in pleasure as he began to move. Your nails racked up his back at the growing speed, your growing moans spurring him on. Azriels wings splayed out to balance himself, your hand found itself trancing gently the spines sending gratifying shivers down Azriels back.
Your head fell back as you both began to sink into synchronised movement, tightening around him the band began to tighten and tighten and tighten until finally, it snapped. You almost roared his name at the release of pure endorphins, the sound sending Azriel sailing over his own edge. Your legs still wrapped around him as he began to shake through his own orgasm before he slowly pulled out and collapsed breathlessly beside you.
Azriel sat up, hauling the duvet up and over you both as you leaned your back flush with his chest, breathing, fighting to return to regular rhythm.
“Four hundred years huh?” Azriel puffed the words out with a smile. You took a moment to process the words.
“I am going to kill Cassian” You squeezed your eyes closed in almost embarrassment, Azriel leaning forward and kissing your cheek softly.
“Am I forgiven for the manuscript incident?” you hummed in answer to his question, eyes relaxing closed as you both tangled together. You looked to the ground to see Azriel’s shadows mending shreds of paper together.
“Az…did you know that your shadows could do that?” you sat up looking at the now-mended manuscript on the floor.
“Eh…yes I did, I just wanted to spend time with you, don’t kill me” he looked panicked to your disbelief. You just allowed a loud laugh to escape your chest at the absurdity of it all.
“I think you’ll be making it up to me for the rest of your life” “I can’t wait”

Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the only daughter of Autumn, your relationship with your brothers was quite different than their relationships with each other. You were no threat to the throne. A female could never be High Lord. Yet, that did not let you free from Beron’s iron tight grip on his family and their perception by Prythian. The only thing a female was good for was marrying well and producing children. If you ever proved yourself to be an embarrassment to the Vanserra family, you learned the limitless bounds of the former High Lord’s wrath. Your brothers would be there to help mend you, offering comfort in the best ways they could. It wasn’t much, but it meant a lot to you.
It damn near broke your heart when you realized you had to leave them behind to be with your mate. Beron would never—ever—allow you to be mated to an Illyrian brute. Knowing that your brothers would only be hurt if you told them, you decided that Eris was the best option in confiding your plan to run. Together, you left a note saying that you were leaving to be with your mate and he helped you cross Autumn’s border. You prayed to the Mother that Beron was not too cruel to him, or your other brothers, when he discovered your disappearance. You knew you would likely not see them again, and you hoped they might forgive you for that. Then everything Under the Mountain happened—you were trapped in Velaris for fifty years, all too aware that you would never find out if they did.
That was the one blessing, you supposed, of returning to the Autumn Court all these decades later. With Beron gone and Eris as High Lord, it was easy to fall back in with your family. Though Eris was ready to march down to the Night Court and burn Azriel where he stood, and your other brothers were ready to follow, things calmed down in the end. The rage still simmered, hovering just below the surface. All it would take was one wrong move by the Night Court and any alliances Eris had previously forged would go up in smoke.
Despite your request for no further correspondence, the Night Court continued to periodically reach out to you. Mostly Feyre because she had been your friend, but occasionally Rhys who would inquire about the status of your pregnancy. Though he never said it outright, you knew it was to find out if your babe had wings. His motives, you were unsure. Was it out of concern for your wellbeing? You recalled how panicked he had been during Feyre’s pregnancy. Perhaps he was worried about you for your sake. A larger part of you thought it was out of concern for his brother. That if your babe had wings, then it would mean you would surely die. And if you were to die, could you find it in your heart to let your mate be by your side one last time? Your skin itched at the thought of Azriel anywhere near your babe.
Truthfully, you didn’t know. Whenever your healer, a kind elderly fae named Brigid, would ask if you wanted to know, you would always decline. You didn’t want to experience your pregnancy knowing there was an expiration date. You wanted to live it, to enjoy it. Because Nesta could not bargain with the Cauldron any longer. Not even her, in all her power, could save you. You would rather spend your final days healing from Azriel’s betrayal and preparing for the birth of your child than worry about the inevitable.
Besides, you were worried that the loyal shadow wound up wrist would run to Azriel at the first sign of harm to you.
Eris was not fond of that choice. He was certain that he could find a way to save your life should it come down to it. You were less convinced. But he was a prideful male, and you had learned long ago to not get in the way of a male’s ego. If he wanted to be delusional, so be it. That didn’t mean you had to feed into those delusions.
Today, however, was a day of celebration. The Fall Equinox had come and so the Forest House was alive with fae from across the courts. The Night Court wasn’t present—hadn’t even been extended an invitation, if Eris was to be believed. You admired his loyalty to you, but you knew the Night Court was not an enemy to be made. To be their ally was to be protected. In a land still wrought from the effects of Amarantha and the King of Hybern, it would be too costly to be making enemies of a court so powerful.
You ignored those concerns today, trying to focus on the festivities. It was hard to enjoy them. You were at the end of your pregnancy. Brigid had warned against your attendance, arguing that you needed to rest. But you were stubborn like your brothers. If you wanted one more night of revelry, you should have it.
That was, ultimately, your downfall.
You were dancing with one of your brothers, Crispin. Or, at the very least, dancing the best you could. You were sure it looked pathetic—a far cry from the elegance Beron beat into you. You were having too much fun to care. So much fun, you almost missed the pain shooting through.
You couldn’t help the gasp that escaped your lips. Crispin froze, extending his arms out to help steady you. “What’s wrong?” he asked. “Do you need to sit?”
“The babe—there’s something wrong with the babe,” you manage, keeling over from the pain.
Tumblr media
“Give me one godsdamned reason not to gut you where you stand.”
Azriel barely glanced up at the male in his house. It was only a matter of time, he mused, before one of your brothers came for him. For some reason, Lucien hadn’t been particularly high on the list he made, ranking the likelihood of each brother to come breaking down the door. Mostly because Lucien spent most of his time in the mortal lands, far away from news of what Azriel had done. But, eventually, all word gets out.
“Because I deserve a more painful death than gutting me would provide.”
Lucien’s hand wound itself in Azriel’s hair, yanking it back. A blade pressed against his throat. “Damned right you do. She was always too fucking good for you.”
“I know.”
“Do you know how many males would kill for a mate as kind as her? Do you know how many males begged Beron for her hand? You are lucky she ever spared you the time of day,” Lucien hissed.
Again, Azriel said, “I know.”
And he did. Mother above, he did. Every day of the last nine months, Azriel had been kicking himself for treating you the way he did. How had he misread all of the signs? Why did he let his anxieties, his worries of not being good enough for you, cloud his judgment? Azriel found himself wishing he could turn back time, stop himself from ruining the best thing he ever had.
Now, he was left in the dark. His friends scarcely spoke to him. Ever since Feyre and Rhys learned of his accusations, word spread among the Inner Circle. Cassian looked at him like he didn’t even know his brother. Mor sneered the first time she saw him. Amren hadn’t said a word to him. And Nesta…He was sure she was going to rip his wings off and throw him off the House of Wind. Even Elain looked at him as if he were a monster. Sometimes, though, Feyre would fill him in on the few replies you sent to her letters. And if he asked pathetically enough, Rhys would send you inquiries about your wellbeing. Those never got a reply.
Azriel almost wished he had a mission to go on to distract himself. To able to take his pain out on another helpless soul. But Rhys had barred him from his work. A punishment for his actions, Azriel was sure. Rhysand would never call it that. Always said something about giving Azriel time to reflect. But Azriel was tired of reflecting. Reflection wouldn’t undo what he did. Reflection wouldn’t bring you back.
“You’re a pathetic excuse for a male,” Lucien spat. “Hybern should have killed you. It would have spared the rest of us from your waste of a life.”
He squeezed his eyes shut. It would have killed you, he was sure, if he had died. But at least you would know he loved you. At least you wouldn’t be aching because your mate proved he didn’t trust you. You wouldn’t have your babe, but at least you could be assured that Azriel would never accuse you of infidelity.
“Have you seen her?” Azriel croaked.
Lucien released his hold on Azriel’s hair. He fell forward, but didn’t turn to face the male. He could hear Lucien’s snarl as he said, “Color me surprised when I return from the mortal lands to learn from Elain that you cast my sister aside, made her leave her home, because you refused to listen to her. You’re lucky that Eris answered my letter with haste, explaining she was safe in Autumn. Consider yourself even luckier that the High Lord made me wait to come here before I got that answer. Do you have any idea how far she had to travel on foot? You made a pregnant female—your mate—travel through Winter alone.”
Azriel held back his sob.
“A farmer had to be the one to bring her to Forest House. She would have died if not for his kindness.” Lucien’s hand curled around Azriel’s throat, his nails digging in. “Their blood would have been on your hands if they did.”
“I-I didn’t think—”
“No, you didn’t—”
Hurt,a shadow whispered. Azriel’s head snapped up. He wrenched himself out of Lucien’s death grip, searching for the shadow he hadn’t seen in months. Most of the others had stuck around, hissing their disapproval in his ear. But he knew one had gone missing, prayed to the Mother that it was making sure you were safe when he couldn’t. Come quick.
“What?” Azriel breathed out. No. No. It couldn’t mean you. You were safe, in Autumn. You were under your brothers’ protection. No harm should ever befall you there. None…Unless—
She’s hurt. The babe is stuck. Come—quick.
Azriel jumped out of his seat, moving faster than he had in months. This couldn’t be. The babe didn’t have wings. Surely, if the babe had wings, you would have told Rhysand. You would have told someone. Unless, you didn’t know. He had to get to you. He had to see you.
“Where the hell do you think you’re going?”
“She’s gone into labor,” he managed. The room felt like it was spinning. Was he about to lose you forever? No. No, he couldn’t handle that. He could handle you alive, hating him forever. But to lose you like this…For you to not know how deeply sorry he was, he couldn’t live with that. He would sooner follow you in death than live in a world without you. “The babe has wings.”
Lucien’s eyes narrowed. “They’ll kill you if you go. They’ll make me look like mercy.”
“I-I need to get Madja. She has experience with this. I need to give her a shot.” Azriel sniffed, praying the tears wouldn’t fall. Not now. “Even if she never lets me see the babe, I need to do everything in my power to give them a chance to live.”
Azriel half-expected Lucien to drive his dagger into his heart. Instead, his lip curled. “Go. Before I change my mind. I’ll warn my brothers of your arrival. They will welcome Madja’s help. But whatever they decide to do with you, I will not interfere.”
“Thank you.”
“I’m not doing this for you.”
“I know. But…thank you.”
Tumblr media
Your screams do not sound like your own. It sounded like, felt like, it was coming from someone else. Nothing about this, truthfully, felt like it was happening to you. You were vaguely aware of your mother on your right side, Eris on your left. Brigid was between your legs, trying to help the babe into a proper birthing position. Somewhere beyond the closed, oak door you could hear your brothers Crispin and Heath shouting at someone. Oh, you hoped they were terrorizing the servants.
“You’re alright, my love,” your mother was saying as she stroked your hair, “you’re doing so well.”
Your scream was your only response. Fuck. You had never experienced pain quite like this before. Not even Beron’s flames compared to this. It was a miracle you hadn’t passed out yet. Though, the thought of shutting your eyes and closing out the rest of the world was quite tempting. No. You needed to stay strong. If not for yourself, then for your babe. You had to give her a fighting chance.
Her. You were so certain your babe was a female. Brigid had never told you, because you had never asked. If you had known, the gender or the status of wings, you would want to tell Azriel. It would be the one thing, you were certain, that would break your resolve. You weren’t sure if you ever wanted the shadowsinger back into your life, but…Well, he had always want a babe that looked just like you. A little princess to dote on. To show how to fly.
Another scream ripped through you. It felt like your soul was being torn out. Like sharp talons raked down your body, gripping at your essence, ready to take you back to the Mother. You wouldn’t go back. Not until your babe was born. After that…If the Mother wanted you, she could take you. Your babe would be in safe hands with your family.
Desperately, you tried to search out for the shadow that not left your side in nine months. It had become a source of comfort. Its cold nature soothed the flames of Autumn burning inside of you. It reminded you of home. But when your eyes flicked to your wrist, then down your arm, it was gone. How long had it been gone? Why did it abandon you when you finally needed it? Where did it—
Something slammed against the oaken door.
Eris’s head snapped up to glare at the wood. “What in the Cauldron is happening out there?” he hissed.
“Go, check,” your mother said. “We need to keep this room as calm as possible. If your brothers are picking fights out there, then they’ll only make it worse. She cannot afford any unwarranted stress.”
Eris gave a tight nod and stepped away from your side. He didn’t even make it halfway across the room before the door slammed open, the wood splintering. A body hit the floor. Your vision was too blurred to make out who, or the person who stepped over him, approaching your bed. That is, until she was close enough for you to recognize the all-too-familiar face.
“Madja?” you managed. “How—”
“He brought me here,” she said, stepping in between your legs. Brigid made room for you, taking the opportunity to move away to grab some fresh towels. Madja tutted at the sight of you, then got to work.
“I don’t want him here!” The words tumbled out before you could stop them.
You barely caught Madja glancing over to the fallen figure. In the haze, you finally recognized the wings. Azriel. He was here. Your breath caught. That was why the shadow had left you. It had gone to find him. Was it out of loyalty to its master? Or was it out of concern for you? A little shadow escaped from Azriel, speeding back to you. The cold thing stroked your face, as if to comfort you, to apologize for leaving you alone.
Azriel’s head lifted. You were grateful you couldn’t see the hurt in his eyes. Crispin and Heath each grabbed an arm, dragging your mate back up to his feet. Though you all knew he could easily fight them off, he didn’t make a single move. Purple was already beginning to blossom on his exposed bits of skin. Had that been why you heard your brother’s shouting?
Too pained to stand the look of him, you focused back on Madja. “Better or worse than Feyre?” Your voice was tight. It took every bit of your energy to not roar in pain.
“The babe is starting to come out, but her wings are stuck,” she said. “We’ll have to break bones to get her out.”
“Mine or hers?” you nearly cried.
“Both.” Madja glanced up at you. She masked her sorrow well, but you saw through it. You knew the next thing she was going to say, and you knew your answer, too. “I don’t know that I can save you both.”
“Her. Save her.”
“NO!” Azriel shouted.
You barely processed Eris’s body slamming into Azriel. He let out a low groan at the contact. If you weren’t already in so much pain, you would have been able to feel how much that hurt through the bond. You wondered how much Azriel could feel. For the last nine months, you had kept your end closed. But after going into labor, it took too much effort to push him away.
“You are the last godsdamned person who gets to make decisions about her,” Eris hissed. “You’re lucky I don’t throw you in the fucking dungeon—”
“I already gave him the whole speech, brother.”
Lucien? How did he get here? How did he know?
Azriel ignored your brothers. To Madja, he pleaded, “Give her a chance—both of them a chance.”
Eris’s fist landed square on Azriel’s jaw. “Don’t even look in her fucking direction.”
“All of you, out!” your mother shouted. The males all froze in place. “What did I say about removing unnecessary stress? Eris, take him to the library and let him stay there until this is over. The rest of you, make yourselves useful.”
Your attention turned back to Madja, ignoring the sulking males, as her cold hand touched your knee. “We have to make a decision, dear.”
From the corner of your eye, you watched as Azriel stiffened. He wouldn’t be pleased with you, you were sure. And perhaps it was cruel to subject him to the cold pain of losing a mate. But that was mercy compared to what he did to you.
To Madja, you said, “Do what you must.”
Tumblr media
Azriel stared at the oak doors of the library. Eris and Lucien had been left at his guards while Crispin and Heath disappeared to gather more supplies for Madja and Brigid. He paid them and their snarls no mind. Nothing could distract him from your wails of pain echoing through Forest House. Every inch of him, every fiber of his being, called for him to go to you. To be by your side. It was only your words that kept him still.
“I don’t want him here!”
Five words was all it took for you to rip Azriel’s heart out. How you did it so succinctly, struck him right to the core, when it took an illogical rant from him to break yours was a mystery to him. Worse yet, Azriel wasn’t sure you were even aware of what you were saying. You looked like you were barely processing Madja’s appearance. Did you truly want him gone?
Visions of your near-lifeless eyes looking at him flashed through his mind. He was going to lose you today. Was it a kinder fate for you to die than live in a world with him? Would things be different if he hadn’t fucked things up so spectacularly? Azriel imagined you in your shared home, your family—the Inner Circle—surrounding you. Love for you would be in the air, not contempt for him. Would that have been enough to save you?
He shook his head. He was being ridiculous. Your family—the Vanserras—loved you, too. Perhaps more than the Inner Circle. While his family was content to ignore his existence, yours was willing to strike him down where he stood for even deigning to show his face in Autumn. He was sure Crispin and Heath would have actually killed him if they hadn’t drove his body through the door first.
Azriel flinched as another scream ripped down the halls.
“Don’t act like this is painful to you,” Eris snarled.
Azriel managed to lift a glare to him. “I can feel everything she does. If she is hurting, so am I.”
“That mattered little to you when you accused her of being a whore,” Lucien said.
“And I will regret to the day I die. I will spend the rest of my days atoning for what I did.” Azriel lifted his chin. “But would killing me save her?”
Eris stepped closer to him. “Don’t even pretend to care about her. Where have you been these last nine months? Where were you when her morning sickness left her unable to leave the bed for days, unable to keep anything down? When she would go to Brigid for updates on the babe? When she couldn’t even pick out things for a nursery because the perfect one was left behind in the Night Court?”
He jerked like he had been slapped. Sometimes, he could still feel the sting of Feyre hitting him. Until today, she had been the only one brave enough to hurt him for what he did. Azriel would take every beating, though, if it meant you would live.
Azriel opened his mouth to respond, but fell short. Silence rung through Forest House. Your screams—they had stopped. The cries of a babe did not fill their place. He tugged desperately at the bond, hoping to feel your pull. Nothing. There was nothing.
No.
No, he couldn’t lose you.
No.
Against his better judgment, Azriel fled from the library. He raced down the hall, the eldest and youngest Vanserra hot on his heels. He needed to see you. He needed to know that you still lived. Perhaps you were asleep. Birth was exhausting. Azriel remembered Feyre slept for hours after having Nyx. Perhaps you were doing the same. But then why wasn’t the babe crying?
The door was ajar when he reached it. It took little effort to push it open, to open himself to the scene on the other side. On the far side of the room, Madja and Brigid had the babe. A beautiful little girl. His beautiful little girl. Azriel’s eyes flicked back to you. Your mother was covering your body with a blanket. Were you truly sleeping? No, you were too still, even by fae standards. Your chest didn’t rise. Your eyelids didn’t flutter.
Azriel’s gaze fell to your limp hand hanging from the edge of the bed. He sank to his knees, reaching for it. He half-expected Eris or Lucien to rip him away, to throw back back over the border. But no one touched him.
“Let him mourn,” he heard your mother say.
“He doesn’t deserve it.” Whether that was Eris or Lucien, he wasn’t sure.
“It matters little what he deserves now.”
You couldn’t be gone. You couldn’t be. Somewhere beyond, a faint cry rang through the room. A weight lifted off his chest. At least the babe survived. At least Madja managed that. But…None of that mattered if you weren’t here, too. None of it mattered if you couldn’t hold her.
A hand touched his shoulder. He lifted his head to stare up at your mother. “Her name is Bronwyn.”
“Thank you,” he whispered.
“We’re going to take her to a wet nurse. But…you may stay for as long as you like. Ignore my sons. They are in pain, too.”
“Thank you,” he said again.
Silence filled the room again. Azriel was certain he was alone again, until he heard padding of footsteps along the wooden floor. He didn’t have to look up to know it was Madja.
“She could still live. It is not…It is not the worst birth I have seen. I have seen weaker women pull through from more horrible circumstances.”
“Why do you tell me this?”
“We believe, when people are in this state of limbo, they can still our world. Talk to her. You might be able to pull her back.”
“She wouldn’t come back for me.”
“Then why did she nearly tell her mother to come get you?” Madja patted his shoulder. “Food for thought. Do as you wish, Spymaster. I will be back to check on her later.”
Azriel did not move for three days and three nights. Despite what Madja had said, he couldn’t find any words to share with you. Everything felt wrong. What was he supposed to say? Apologies would scarcely suffice. Should he beg? It was tempting, but he wasn’t sure his pathetic snifflings would return you, either.
Every so often, your mother would come in, Bronwyn in her arms. She would lay the babe on your chest and coo about how much she was growing already. Lucien would come in to tell you about what he had been doing in the mortal lands. Eris was rant about the politics of being a newly minted High Lord. Heath would talk about the latest book he had read. Crispin came once—sobbed about how he should have realized what was happening, should have gotten you help sooner.
Everyone else had something to say. Something more moving, more earth-shattering, than whatever grovel he would wretch up.
But on the fourth morning, as the morning sunlight began to stream onto you, he lifted himself from his knees. There was just enough space beside you that he could curl up to. It cramped his wings, but he was willing to ignore the pain.
“I should have cherished you,” he whispered. His throat was tight. “I should have trusted you. I do, trust you I mean. Before you, I never knew unconditional love. Even through the last few centuries together, it still boggled my mind that you could look at me and find something worth loving. When I came home that day, I was so scared that you had finally found something better. It will never excuse what I did.”
He reached up, brushing a strand of hair out of your face. “Come back, my wildfire. Not for me. I could spend the rest of my life making up for that mistake, but it would never be enough to warrant your forgiveness. But your family…They shouldn’t be hurt because of what I did. Come back for them. Come back for Bronwyn. Come back, and you will never have to see me again unless you so wish it. Just…live.”
Azriel’s eyes squeezed shut. He felt wetness drip down his face, onto your soft skin where his face was pressed. “Please, live.”
Your eyes opened.

Neteyam’s father and your father are best friends, ever since his first time jake was introduced to the omatikaya clan all those years ago, they developed into close friends, there was nothing Jake did without your father by his side, they passed their rights of passage together, earning their ikran at the same time. They went on every hunt together and introduced their wives who became great friends as well. They even had children at the same time, all kids were both within months of each other, that includes you and Neteyam.
You have always been a shy small girl, your only imagine to the world was innocence, you wanted no part in the hunting of Eywa’s creatures or just fighting in general. Even though you are the oldest, your siblings and the sully children made it their business to protect you; you don’t even carry a knife on hand just in case, someone is always by your side, sometimes even Tuktirey.
Now, even though people perceive these things about you from a very young age, doesn’t mean you are unaware of how to use them, one could argue you are the best weapons master in the clan, you wield a bow almost as well as a professional archer, you have seamless movements with a knife of any kind and you even have amazingly good aim on a gun. But if anyone thought you were the kind of girl to pick up a knife and murder someone, well you would be in a lot of trouble.
I mean how could you not in these situations? Any sane person would. You have had a crush on Neteyam for practically your whole life, well it’s not really a crush now, it’s more like you are in love with him, you truly believe that no other man would come close to satisfying you the way he would. Everyone knows you like him, but no one is aware just how deep that love runs, it’s in your veins, your blood, every cell in your body screams a want for Neteyam Sully and only him.
It really irritated you the way women throw themselves do foolishly at your man like you're not going to do anything about it, for example the time you walk into the sully kelku to see your siblings and the sully kids sitting in a circle, “Hi everyone” you smile sweetly as they all greet you before your eyes catch an unfamiliar woman. You do not socialize much, the extent of your friends sits in this room and you are content, you see no need to look for more company, these people care for you and well, your man is already included in this circle of friend, so who on Eywa’s planet is this girl?
You were previously going to sit next to said man but your space is taken, you wipe the little pout of your face and move to sit next to lo’ak who is the only one who seemed to read your mind, “Hey angel! What’s up?” your eyes dart to neteyam and the girl and you pout innocently at Lo’ak, “Oh nothing, just finished my shift at the healers hut, who’s that?” you said gesturing your head to the girl.
She sat close to him, a little too close, her hand rested on his arm as she laughs obnoxiously at whatever joke he just said. She wants him, Neteyam isn’t that funny, but there he was smiling victoriously at her laughter, it made you sick. How dare he, that should be you laughing at his lame jokes. It should always be you.
“That’s Akira, she is Neteyam latest escapade, personally I don’t really like her, she’s not that nice to everyone else” you soak in his information plotting how to fix this broken situation, you glance at her throughout the time you sat as you speak to everyone else, always subtly cutting off her sentences with your own sweet voice or purposefully ignoring her and changing the topic, it was clear she was getting a little more than irritated at your actions until she finally snapped and shouted at you to ‘shut the fuck up and stop interrupting her’
Your heart beat picks up and you look at her startled before the water works form making her look bad for yelling at sweet little you, it surely made everyone dislike her more than they already did, that included Neteyam giving her a mean side eye before he came to sit on the other side of you to wipe your tears. He felt protective of you because of the innocent aura you put out. It is only natural he is a protector, your protector.
It got worse for her though, after that day a week later Kiri invited her to one of your infamous girl days, you guys usually hang out and braid each other's hair, all that fun stuff. But this time she tried so hard to insert herself and honestly, she is a nice girl, it really was her fault for trying to fuck your man like that. Kiri ran home to get the combs and beads you forgot by accident leaving you alone with her.
She was the one who brought up talking a walk, you thought it was strange but decided what’s the worst that could happen? She isn’t leaving here with her life anyways. You walk deeper into the forest and made your way next to an incredibly steep cliff, you knew if someone fell down there, no one would be about to find them. It was perfect. You walk over closer to the edge looking down at the rough flowing river beneath you ignoring her cautious words to be careful, she shouldn’t have come out here with you if careful was what she wanted to be.
You stop a pretty looking flower growing right off the cliff, it wasn’t that far but you could reach it but Akira, she was taller. You called her over in a sweet voice and activated that innocent look you use to get your way and asked her to pick the flower for you. She stretched her neck to see it before getting down on her hands and knees bending down over the cliff to get it. You took a quick glance around before you kicked her off the cliff.
You stood up watched over the cliff as she fell but caught herself on the same branch the flower was on, she looked up at you begging for you to save her but come on, you weren’t nearly as strong enough to pull her heavy ass up, not that you were going to try, you sat on the edge resting one of your feet on the branch before looking at her terrified expression, listening to her pleads you smile sickly, “You should have thought about what would happen to you before you got all up on my man, in case you aren’t sure which man that is whore, its Neteyam he is my future mate, he is going to love me forever, you well your trash. And now I get to through you out”
You tilt you head laughing wickedly at her when you strike down the branch with a sharp blow breaking it. You watch her fall to her screaming death; it is only when her body fell into the rocky waves did you step back and walk to the clearing you were previously seated at.
You made good time too, Kiri came back a couple minutes after you without suspecting a thing and asked about Akira’s whereabouts, you brushed her off changing the subject after saying ‘she wanted to go for a walk’ which wasn’t a lie. The day passed and the clan sent trackers out looking for her, Neteyam was distraught, but why is the question, you got rid of his problem not his life. You rolled your eyes but still sat next to him saying the obvious lie ‘I’m sure she will turn up.’ Her dead body was found 4 days later, broken up and ravaged by animals down the river about 2 miles from the clan.
In the end that worked out easily for you, all of them were not so easy to make happen, like the time with a different girl Sura, she was a warrior like Neteyam, she trained alongside him every day. It was no secret she didn’t like you, she always thought your innocence was fake, while she was right no one believed her dumb comments because you would always cry, she was a bitch when you had to be the one to patch up her wounds, everyone was under the impression you were scared of her.
It worked out well for you, since she already didn’t like you, it was easy enough to blame everything on her. It started simply with you playing a little more dumb than usual but not enough for people to get suspicious of you. Just enough to piss her off though. She liked Neteyam so you made it your business to be present whenever you could, bringing him food, refilling his water bottle, even just sitting and watching him train.
Not that he ever said anything but you know he liked having you around him like that, paying real attention to the person that he was and not his title or his cock, not that you would mind paying attention to that cock, you see the bulge in his loincloth all the time, makes you want to wiggle your ass against his crotch and make him mount you. But you don’t mind waiting for it, I mean he is your future husband, he’ll mount you eventually.
One day you got to the training grounds a bit earlier than Neteyam on purpose, it was great because you knew Sura was already there, along with a few other warriors in his training unit. You sat on a log spewing some dumb shit and laughing obnoxiously with the group making sure your voice was dumb and pitched just the way she hates it.
It worked out well when she started making fun of your voice making some admittingly good insults but it wasn’t fun for her when their group leader, Neteyam catch her doing so and scolded the entire unit, making them all run laps after laps while he wraps your crying figure in her arms comforting you for the rest of the session. The look on her face was beautiful jealousy.
When everyone dispersed and Neteyam trailed after one of his warriors to speak with him, he left you alone with her. Big mistake. You walked up to her and as she was about to tell you off like a big girl, you grab the knife off her hip and stab her in the stomach watching her fall to the ground, “remember bitch he is mine. You did this to yourself when you decided to touch what wasn’t yours” then you stab her again for good measure in the neck watching the blood ooze onto the green grass.
Afterwards you take the knife and stab yourself in the thigh and then pulling it out and screaming Neteyam name so loud you made the surrounding birds fly away. When he came rushing back to you, you cried some bullshit about how she attacked you saying she was in love with him and you were getting in her way. He wrapped up your wound with a cloth and picked you up in his arms and ran to the healer's tent.
It was amazing how no one questioned your story but how could they be when you were crying so hysterically you didn’t want to let go of Neteyam, when they did rip you out of his arms and pushed him out of the tent so they could work on healing your wound, you cried murderously in the hut, the entire clan heard the commotion and screaming you caused just wanting Neteyam to be with you. You fought and kicked and screamed not wanting to be anywhere else other than in his strong arm.
He sat outside that hut listening to your screaming of his name feeling horribly, he thinks it’s all his fault you were hurt and now he can’t even help you. Tears sting his eyes as he heard your pitched voice calling out for him to make them stop hurting you. Lo’ak sat right next to him with a hand on his shoulder knowing it was hard for Neteyam to keep it together.
After that for the next few weeks, you wouldn’t leave Neteyam’s side. Saying how grateful you were he was there to save your life, how safe you feel with him like no one can hurt you, you even slept over at their house every so offend with the excuse of being without him would put you in danger. Both your parents thought it was cute how stuck up you became on him, how well he took care of you, always making sure to clean and dress your wound, helping you get back on your feet and walking properly. He even went as far as to skip out of hunting trips because you cried about how much you didn’t want him to go. And neteyam never complained, he sat without you through the tough nights and all the crying episodes like a real husband would, you knew he was your perfect one and only, now he has to see that.
The cycle repeated itself for a few years, girl meets Neteyam, girl wants neteyam, girl tries to make a move, girl dies. The endless cycle is getting a bit tiring honestly, you are ready to be mated now, you saved your virginity just for him while he was out and about sticking his dick in anything that breathes. You aren’t supposed to be mad, but the thought makes you fume. He has you, why would he want anyone else.
You can’t count how many times you had an interaction with him and ran away to take care of yourself, or when you would go home for the day hot and bothers to stick your fingers into your already wet cunt, not the mention the nights you spent next to him when you would use his hand, grinding on his fingers to get some release while he’s asleep, those are by far the best times.
The point is you are tired of having to do it on your own, you put so much work into this relationship, why can’t it just go your way for once, but low and below neteyam has other plans, his new girl, Nanti. Shes a fellow healer like you, you don’t really consider her a friend but she is a nice girl, she has done nothing but treat you nicely, until you saw her sitting next to Neteyam on the log about 30 feet away from you.
You know she is a great healer, but not better than you though. But she is one of the healers that specialize in poison, she works mainly to find cures for the different poisons that have been exposed to the na’vi. Her team makes real head way, they do good work. But she did make it awfully easy to frame her.
For the past few weeks since she has been hanging out with Neteyam, you started to spend more time with another woman in that unit of healing, your excuse being you wanted to expand your healing horizon, and who would question such a sweet girl? You learned about all kinds of different liquids and powders along with their antidotes that can easily kill people in minutes. You questioned and questioned until you found the perfect one. It was a light blur powder, almost grey that when added to any liquid it immediately melts blending in the drink. It was taste less and odorless, and best off all it had an antidote, it was perfect.
Despite you wanting to use it on her, you decided you killed the last girl, you should take it up a notch so you can really get Neteyam to yourself for good. The poison only takes a few minutes to take effect but you are such the antidote works effectively as soon as you inject it. The poison is meant to thin your blood so you start to bleed internally before you die. It was fast working though, killing fully grown na’vi in just 20 minutes.
Since tonight was yet another clan celebration, you decided it’s the perfect time to carry out another one of your sick plans. You walk up to the group sitting next to Nanti casually, you slip your drink slowly, that already had the poison mixed in it and paced yourself until you had to pee. When you got up you handed your drink over to Nanti to hold until you returning making sure at least one person saw you do so.
When you did return after a few minutes you took the drink back from her and took a big gulp then a few more to finish the drink in the next few minutes, then you waited. It was a nerve racking few minutes you almost regretted it but you knew earlier on you had slipped the antidote shot in Nanti bag making her look even more suspicious, why would you have an antidote if you didn’t have the poison?
When you coughed for the first couple times it caught the attention of Lo’ak and Kiri cutting off their conversation to ask if you are alright, after you said you were just fine, they continued. Then you had a second coughing fit this time Neteyam noticed and it was a good time too because this time you coughed some blood up into your palm. You look up at Neteyam with teary, scared eyes.
He made quick work pushing Lo’ak to get their dad who was sitting a couple tables away drinking with norm and your father and he rushed to your side. When they arrived, you glanced at Nanti a couple times to make sure someone knew you suspected her, Lo’ak was the only one who noticed, everyone else was caught up on helping you.
Norm whipped out his tablet and took a blood swap rapidly testing it to find out what was causing you to cough up blood, when the test came back positive with the specific poison Lo’ak was quick to speak up, “Nanti what the fuck? What did you do to her?”
Neteyam tried to defend that bitch but Lo’ak was quick to cut him off, “You are thinking with the wrong head idiot, she is the only person here that knows this much about poison.” Neteyam was shut up after that and Nanti took her turn to speak up, “What?! I didn’t poison her! She was hanging around my healing unit the pass couple weeks she has just as much knowledge as I do” she really tried to defend herself but Lo’ak wasn’t buying that and truthfully now neither was Neteyam, “And why would she poison herself?” Neteyam spoke up looking up at Nanti that stood next to his crouched figure next to you.
“You- *cough cough* poisoned me?” you stutter out looking up at her with scared eyes, “Antidote?” you asked to no one in particular ignoring the way she pleaded for everyone to believe she didn’t poison you. “There is an antidote but, it takes about 30 minutes to properly make, you only have about 10 minutes left...” Norm said solemnly as if you didn’t stash and antidote in Nanti’s bag, but to be fair he didn’t know that.
Luckily for you it clicked in Neteyam’s brain, she wouldn’t bring poison without an antidote, just for good measure. While Lo’ak and your father were arguing with norm to at least to make the antidote, Neteyam stoon up to Nanti, towering over her, “Where is the antidote?” his voice was eerily calm. She stepped back away from his figure telling him the same ‘I don’t know.’ Neteyam didn’t let her get far when he yanked her arm causing her to yelp catching the attention of the other men.
“I’m not letting her die, where is it?” he ignored the growl of his name coming from his father as they try to make him let her go, “Neteyam I didn’t do this! I do not have the antidote, see?” she emptied the contents of her bag on the floor and the injection fell out. You watch her expression fall to her ass when he picks it up handing it to norm to inject you. He ignored her pleads towards him when he kneeled next to you once more at your side. You were in so much pain but you wanted so badly to laugh at her expression. It was amazing the things you can do when you set your mind to it.
 After the celebration was over you were laying in the healers’ hut resting until the antidote works its way through your entire body properly, it stopped you from dying but the poison was still in there. Lo’ak and your sister sat next to you making jokes trying to cheer you up when Neteyam walked in. He had been previously discussion forms of punishment with his father about the matter and they settled for death. It wasn’t fair to her since she didn’t do anything but you could not find it in yourself to be mad about it, she did this to herself.
You turned away from him ignoring him when he walked in and kneeled on the other side of you, you know your sister and Lo’ak saw you do that but didn’t interrupt when Neteyam tried to get your attention. “Angle are you ok? Feeling any better?” he asked in a soft voice as he ran his large hand over your head. “Am I ok? Are you out of your mind Neteyam? I don’t even want to have to explain this to you” you roll your eyes and push his hand off you. “What? What are you-” he started but you cut him off
“Do you seriously not see this pattern? Every time you bring one of you girls around me i get attacked or insulted and not poisoned. How you counted how much times one of your little girlfriends has called me dumb or stupid? Like the time I got pushed off that high tree, or when that one crazy bitch stabbed me? It was all because I wanted to be your friend, all because I wanted to be around you. I almost lost my life today because another one of your crazy chicks tried to kill me. Just stop dating at this point” you look up to the ceiling pretending to stop the fake tears that begin pouring out your eyes.
Neteyam feels awful it’s all his fault, he didn’t mean for those things to happen to you, and you are right, you truthfully have been by his side through thick and thin. Anything that has ever happened in his life you were a part of. It wasn’t fair you had to go through all of this just because you wanted to be around him. “Honestly bro, you’d both probably be a lot safe of you dated each other. We would stop having to ward off horny men cause Eywa forbid a woman approached your girl and she would stop dying every month”
Neteyam rested on the comment for a minute before you spoke up, “Oh please, I’m not his type.” you roll your eyes wiping your tears. Neteyam gestured for Lo’ak and your sister to leave before he responded to your comment. “Who said you aren’t my type? I happen to like crazy girls apparently, although, those other chicks weren’t crazy, were they? You just had fun framing and killing them.”
His words catch you off guard, before Mo’at busted into the healing tent telling you that you were cleared to leave. His words didn’t stop pondering in your mind as soon as she left you innocently questioned him, “What? What did you say?” you asked confusedly. “Why don’t I get you home then we can talk” he didn’t take you to your home, he took you to his.
Neteyam had recently built an extension of his family hut for himself. A room equip with everything he needed including privacy because he is of mating age now and when he does bring a woman home, he wants her to be comfortable. He pulled the flap to the main entrance of the family hut for you to enter in and you see Jake and Lo’ak sitting in the common area talking. You both greet them and they ask how you are feeling which you give a sweet, ‘fine’ before following Neteyam into his private quarters.
Neteyam closes the heavy flap behind you and walk deeper into the room siting on his bed and left you standing next to his desk that he bolted a mirror above. “So back to business? I know you’ve been killing people, that doesn’t sound like you at all” Neteyam’s tone of voice was amusement, if he knew all the horrible things he did, why did he not stop you? Why isn’t he mad? “I don’t know what you’re talking about” your tone is soft like most times you speak to people. “Oh, cut the shit angel, you don’t have to lie anymore. I know all about your little side hobbies” you make eye contact with him now, “And what side hobbies are those?” you grit your teeth slightly. “Well, first of all, I know very well that you like me, but I’m having trouble wrapping my head around just how much. I thought about confessing I liked you but then I caught a glimpse of your twisted little mind and thought I knew how much you liked me but I was so wrong so I decided to wait to see how far you’d take it. I must say angel I commend the dedication.” his words run through your head as you take in everything he says.
“What glimpse?” you blurted out. Neteyam chuckled and sat back on his bed leaning on the wall. “Sura, I saw you stab her in the neck, I heard you spew those sweet words about how I’m yours, about how she just signed her own death sentence and I saw you stab yourself in the thigh before you screamed out for me, how do you think I got there so quick” your blood ran cold, he saw all that, you thought you were careful. “I- I” he laughed again, “I should have felt angry, scared, you killed my girlfriend but instead I was so fascinated by the way you killed her in cold blood like that, and all for me?” he raised a non-existing eyebrow at you with a sexy smirk on his face.
“Now tell me baby? You love me that much? You poisoned yourself just for me to stop seeing a girl? You know she got the death sentence for what you did. Do you even feel a little bad? You know if that secret gets out the clan is gonna have your sweet pretty head on a stick” Neteyam got off the bed and walked towards you slowly making you match his pace stepping back until you hit the wall next to his desk.
Your loincloth was slick, when he rested his huge arm over your head on the wall and dipped his head down closer to yours. His body came closer with a few small steps pressing you more onto the wall behind you. His hair created a curtain hiding you both from the world as he brought his lips closer to yours, “I did it all for you Neteyam, wanted you to love me and other women kept getting in my way, I just wanted to be with you, I don’t feel bad. You aren’t gonna tell on me, right?” your voice was a seductive whisper as you tip toed to bring your lips closer to his.
You felt his breath on your tongue when he whispered back to you, “Of course not, you’re my girl, always been my sweet girl” before he kissed you for the first time. His lips were warm and wet, and he tasted so sweet like the fruits he had eaten earlier. The hand that wasn’t above your head ran over your waist and hips gripping and pulling your bottom half closer to his body.
Your hands came up around his neck bending your body upwards on his. Neteyam is much taller than you, by a foot at least, your height ends right around his chest. You whimper into the kiss pulling away for air and look up at him, Neteyam didn’t wait another second after you inhaled and kissed you again, the hand that was on the wall ran down the length of your body squeezing the flesh that was under his fingers. Neteyam held you by both your hips and lifted your body off the floor, you wrapped your legs around his think waist and he seated you on the desk next to him. Your ass touched the cold wood and made your hiss in his mouth before he detached and kissed down your neck.
Neteyam sucked and kiss down your neck listening to you moan and whimper under his tongue, he pulled away untying your top and tossing it over your shoulder letting your pretty tits bounce freely. He didn’t waste a second kissing down your breast, tugging your nipples with his tongue and one of his hands. Neteyam pulls away and squishes them together looking down at your pretty purple nipples, “Such pretty tits baby, you were hiding these from me all this time?” he went back down to sucking on your nipples.
“I wasn’t hiding Tey I-I didn’t know if you wanted to see them” your voice was breathy as you spoke taking in the feeling of Neteyam pinching and biting your nipples. “So sensitive” he mumbled into your skin. He didn’t waste much more time before he pulled you off the table catching you when you stumble a bit when you touch the ground. He turned you around and you saw your reflection in his mirror. Your messy hair, naked chest, swollen lips from his intense the kiss was. Then his hand, his big hand rubbing over your nipples and up to your neck choking you slightly. He tilted your head up and he bent down meeting you in the middle for another smearing kiss.
His body pushed yours up to the desk rocking it slightly as his other hand ran down to your ass squeezing the flesh. He rutted his harden bulge into your ass making you whimper into his kiss. He pulled away untying your loincloth while he keeps eye contact with you, “tey...I have a secret” you said looking up at him, he hummed in response asking you to tell him, “I-I’m still a virgin, wanted you to be the one to take it.”
Neteyam let out a hearty groan dropping his head on your shoulder as he played with your tail making your face heat up. “Fuck baby- really? for me? You never let anyone in this little cunt?” his voice was strained as he spoke to me. Neteyam always knew you were an innocent girl, even after he found out about your murderous love for him, he had no idea you’ve never lost your virginity to anyone. Of course, you just keep surprising him, killing someone you have experience but you can’t take cock...yet.
The thought made neteyam excited he felt his dick twitch thinking about what a tight little cunt you must have, you never let anyone in there before it was unmarked territory. He couldn’t wait to tear you open with his big cock, like a kid on his birthday. His grip on your body tightens when you shook your head ‘no’ and he throw your loincloth to the side somewhere forgotten. Neteyam didn’t wait another moment before he dropped to his knees resting both hands on your ass cheeks. Your hands were not placed in front you holding yourself up on the table as you looked back, down at him massaging the fat. He spread your cheeks open catching a glimpse of your wet cunt, he let go and did it again multiple times.
His chest rumbled from the sight alone, he couldn’t believe he got you so worked you, and to find out you were a virgin he just knew you were touch starved, knowing it was only from his touch made his cock hurt in his loincloth. He watched the slick shine between your folds, he thinks it’s so pretty, your cute cunt shining for him, all slicked up he just wants to taste you. And that’s exactly what he did.
Neteyam spread your cheeks apart wider and shoved his face in sticking his tongue out and gliding it up your folds collecting the slick in his mouth. He groans vibrating your ass, and you roll your eyes back feeling his tongue flick you clit. “Fuck angel, taste so good for me, smell so fucking good too”
It caught you off guard when slotted his nose in there but you weren’t complaining, he was going at it. He sucked on your clit flickering it up and down, side to side, he was pushing all your bottoms so perfectly. You heard from other women getting your pussy ate felt good but you had no idea it would have felt like that. “Ah ah Neteyam!” you moan out.
His tongue slides up to your ass wetting your other tight hold making you clench. He noted the way your body reacted too it but decided he would play with that little whole another day. “Yeah, baby feel good?” his mouth went straight back down to your slit licking and swallowing down your slick, Neteyam was drinking it, fuck the thought sent you wild, you shut your eyes imagining how sexy he must look down there pleasuring you, how fucking good it must be to see his Adam's apple bob when he swallows your juices.
It made you a little shy but your moans and whimpers over power your feeling of shyness, his tongue feels so good, makes you wonder where he learned to do that. Neteyam sucked harshly on your clit sending you cuming on his tongue and he slurped up every bit of it, he didn’t want any to go to waste but you gushed so much on him, your juices overflowed his mouth running down the length of his neck to his broad chest...
When the overstimulation kicked in, he pulled away and raised himself to his feet and press up against your back. “Neteyam that was so good” you slumped against him with a weary smile on your face. He chuckled and picked you up bridal style and put you down on the bed gently and untied his own loincloth now letting it join yours on the floor, he walked up to your face stroking his cock right above your nose. Your eyes crossed as you watch his insane size in front of your face as he slowly strokes it. Glowing pre-cum dripped from his tip falling on your lip. Your eyes rolled back when you dart your tongue out and tasted it, he was so sweet. You heard women say their male companions were salty but not Neteyam. He really was perfect for you.
You stuck your tongue out of your mouth waiting for him to stick his cock in but he smiles and taps his tip on your tongue. Feeling his heavy tip hit your tongue drove you insane, when he slapped your tongue the last time your mouth caught him sucking on the tip.
You pulled away to change your position so you’d be more comfortable, flipping over onto your stomach on your hands and knees, sticking your ass up in the air and swaying your tail as you turn your head to the side and take him in. “Fuck -fuck baby- suck on it- yea like that” he threw his head back hissing at the feeling of your small mouth around him.
He talked you through your first time amazingly, praising you, “look so pretty with my cock in your mouth, wanna take a little more?” he pushing in deeper watching your cheeks full out with his cock stuffing you full, “Doing so good babygirl, so good” Neteyam groaned and hissed feeling your tongue circle his tip before he pulls out completely. “Not cuming in there babygirl”
He turned you effortlessly for you to lay on your back, legs thrown around his slim waist and he crawls on the bed over you, “Are you sure you're ready for this?” he asks you. “Neteyam I've wanted this for years, fuck me...please” you look up at him seductively again making him question how he took so long to mount you. He smiles and leans down for a kiss as he rubs his tip between your folds.
When he starts pushing in you break the kiss with a sharp gasp but his lips don’t move from yours, he stays right there while he slides his huge head into you. Your eyes screwed shut and your fingers dig into the skin of his muscular back. “Tey- too big...” you whimper out looking at him with glassy eyes, “Taking me so good baby just a little bit more” your tail comes to wrap around his thigh, your legs feel weak and the rest on his back, his tail comes up and wraps around both your ankles as to keep you close. He sings reassurance to you telling you how good you're doing and how amazing you feel clenching around his cock until he’s fully inserted into your snug cunt.
His head drops down onto your shoulder as he tries not to cum yet and your breathing picks up at the feeling, you have never been so full before. “Nete-” you stutter his name wiggling your hips slights as the pain subsides wanting him to move. When he starts thrusting shallowly, you mewl out scraping down his back. Neteyam brings his head back up to your and kiss you, you don’t kiss back too caught up in the feeling of your pussy stretching out.
He bites your bottom lip pulling it and when you clench on his cock he moans like a chain reaction, Neteyam raises his body to look down at his cock disappearing into your small hole and reappear, he finds nothing more interesting than watching the way you take him in so flawlessly. “Tey, faster please, fuck me faster, so good” he looks up at you when you plead and watch you prop yourself up on your elbows to watch his cock fuck into you as well.
You bite your lip when he speeds up his thrust making you tits bounce, it garbs his attention almost immediately and he quickly gets caught up in making them bounce for him. He speeds up his thrust more becoming a bit rougher with you but not enough to hurt you. Neteyam holds back almost everything he has so he won’t hurt you, he wants nothing more than to pound into you and suck on your tits until he’s drawing milk and making you scream.
The thought sends his mind spiraling, he can’t wait to see you breastfeeding your children, his children. To see you get round and swollen pregnant with his babies. When he knocks you up, he’ll have to bend over your pregnant form just to kiss you when he slots his cock inside, or when he dips his head down to flick your swollen nipples in his mouth tasting the sweet milk that dips out on his tongue. He wants it so bad, he wants to knock you up, make you forever his.
“Baby I’m gonna cum- cum with me, lemme knock up this sweet cunt. You wanna have my babies, right? Gonna let me give you my babies?” he rambles out of his mind rutting int your tight cunt, “Yes yes please tey! Wanna cum! Want your babies pleaseee!” you cry out for him gushing in his cock. Neteyam is quick to follow pumping his cum deep inside you, he thrust a couple times before he drops his heavy body on top of yours.
After a few minutes he fixes himself on the pillow dragging you along so he doesn’t have to pull out of you, as early as this relationship was, he wants his seed to take. When you rest your head on his pillow you inhale deeply taking in his scent and bringing yourself closer to his chest. “Hey baby” he grabs your attention making you hum. “Was Akira your doing too? Like what happened there?” he asked softly as he strokes your hair. You mind runs back to the memory and you decide to be honest, “Pushed her off the high cliff into that one rocky river” you wrap your arms around him and snuggle into his chest. “You have to stop killing people now you know”
“Neteyam if people staying in their lane they wouldn’t have been hurt, or framed, or killed. It’s there out fault when they step in my way.” Neteyam chuckles even though you just admitted to half if the crimes in the clan, you did it for him. Why would be complain.

A SERIES OF BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS
characters. xiao zhongli diluc kaeya childe neuvillette alhaitham x gn!reader genre. romantic fluff. an. ough. . | please reblog!! im getting back into writing and reblogs with tags and comments will make me want to write more :D
xiao
the aftermath of a bloody fight. the remains of a hilichurl lay in front of you, disintegrating back into abyss particles. it's a sad sight, but it had to be done – xiao looks at you, nodding in approval. you did well, for a healer who hates taking away lives, he says. the two of you turn back to center your gaze on the flaming battlefield. some things are meant to be killed.
zhongli
when he mourns for his old life, with old friends, old students, old sights. he buries his head in your lap, the ex-archon's tears staining your hanfu. it's okay to cry, my dear, it's okay to cry, you remind him –it doesn't get any better. grief doesn't come easier after those hopeful words. zhongli can only hope that it will come easier, with your presence in his life.
diluc
brushing his hair after a night of vigilante activities – diluc hisses when your thumb presses on a sore spot, and you gently shush him with a stroke on his neck. i'm sorry, diluc, just hold on a while longer and i promise i'll be done soon – you whisper gently, cupping his face in your hands as you turn his head slightly to the side to check for more scrapes and scratches.
kaeya
braiding flowers into his cobalt blue hair – kaeya laughs when your fingers graze against a sensitive spot. you laugh and tease him, your fingers deftly braiding the daisies you both gathered earlier into the tight braid that was in your hands. it's a serene night – a vast contrast from the previous, turmoil-filled nights. the archons know that both of you need it.
childe
playing tag with the children, with a very exhausted ajax sprawled out on the ground and pretending to pant and gasp for air – alright, perhaps he's not pretending anymore. teucer sits on his torso, poking his sides until his beloved big brother gets up and tickles him until the little boy shrieks. childe leans against your lap, and you stroke his hair until he falls asleep, teucer cuddled up next to him.
neuvillette
waking up in the morning, with your two melusine daughters giggling and jumping on your bed. they startle awake a previously-snoozing neuvillette. he smiles lightly as he greets the girls good morning, who leap off the bed and eagerly run to the kitchen. your husband turns over to look at you – a sweet moment of respite, before kissing you on the lips and turning back to the chaos-filled morning.
alhaitham
reaching for a book that's too high, only to realise that your boyfriend can reach for it with ease. alhaitham bends down to listen to your request, before simply nodding and reaching for your much sought-after book. he smiles gently, afraid that you'll be afraid and intimidated by him... like everyone is. your soft, sweet words of gratitude please him instead. thank you, alhaitham.

[Context: We've been splitting the treasure more or less evenly between the five of us for the whole adventure and before and a shit ton of gold just got dropped into the party's laps.]
DM: [evilly] What will you spend it on? You can buy practically anything you want--
Fathomless Warlock : [wicked grin] I already know what I'm doing with my share!
DM: Oh?
Fathomless Warlock: I'm opening a shelter, soup kitchen, and free healer clinic to help the common people of the city. :)
Celestial Warlock: And this will be great as a warchest for my political campaign!
DM: ...Oh its not like you needed that money to complete the game or anything.
Fathomless Warlock: (ooc): What? This is what my character would do? This is clearly a serious societal problem for Waterdeep and it's really not safe for all these folks to be sleeping in the dungeons we're crawling through. I'm friends with a lawyer and a cleric and with help from our allies I sure we could swing this. And I just took my fifth of it, like we previously agreed? But look if it's plot important to have a lot of cash on hand, I can pay some of it back to the party pool from my own funds from what I inherited as a noble and just from the treasure we've accumulated on this adventure. You know I'm also still working for the paper and we've got the tavern and that should cover personal expenses...
DM: No no no it's not important.
[Beat]
DM: How much?
Celestial Warlock: And I'm not spending my fifth all at once. It's just sitting there until I use it. At first it's probably gonna be smaller expenditures like flyers and pins. And it's not like we have to pay for TV ads, just need to use my Book of Shadows to learn Skywrite...
DM: Oh, okay... So what will you all spend it on?
[Collective shrug]
Fathomless Warlock: I think you all should get yourselves a fine set of clothes so you don't have to rent a tux again. I already have one because like, you know...
Wizard: I'll be getting spell scrolls and inks to study my magics.
Fathomless Warlock: Cool!
Monk: I bought brass knuckles!
Paladin: Alright, then I'm buying plate mail.
Monk: They cost 10 silver. :)
Paladin: ...I'm still buying plate mail.
Celestial Warlock: That's cool! (Won't have to spend as many slots healing her.)
Paladin: Is that really all you're buying...?
Monk: [thinks for a moment] Steel toe boots? (Can I wear boots as a dragonborn?) ...A second silvered wakazashi in case I lose the first one?
DM: That's it?
Monk: I'm a monk. I don't really need material things. Though I figured I might buy some bamboo and knick knacks and things for our Tavern. If we need more money for the tavern (or the campaign) for the tavern I won a lot of prize money doing those mixed martial arts competitions that I don't really use or need.
DM: No no no that's okay...
[Beat]
DM: How much?

A New Surprise
This is a self-indulgent ficlet of Astarion and Halsin discussing something strange happening with their lover. This does use a personal headcanon that I posted previously for Halsin and Astarion. I may make a part 2 but we will see how that goes.
Summary: Astarion knows something weird is happening with their lover, but he can’t get them to take him seriously. He goes to Halsin to try and get reinforcements.
Pairing: Astarion x gn!Reader x Halsin / Astarion x gn!Tav x Halsin
Warnings: mentions periods but uses they/them pronouns, pregnancy symptoms, a moment of angst, tooth rotting sweetness, no use of y/n
Word count: 1,607 words
You and your lovers had managed to settle down into a nice little cabin after the tadpole removal and saving Baldur's Gate. It was outside of the city, at the edge of a large, forested area so that way Halsin can be near nature and that way Astarion doesn't need to worry about prying eyes watching you all.
Astarion was antsy, he just could not calm the racing thoughts that coursed through his head after hearing his lover become sick again as they had for the last several days. The first day he had wrote it off as possibly food sickness, Halsin agreeing that their lover just needed rest but now… now he could smell that something was changing with them and it made bile rise into his throat with worry.
He tried to bring it up with their lover, but they simply brushed it off and gave him a kiss on the cheek telling him not to worry so much. So, after they had left the cabin to go into the city for supplies, he waited for Halsin to return.
It didn't take long for him to hear the druid return from gathering firewood, opening one of the windows and looking outside for him.
"Halsin! I need to speak with you! Urgently please if you would come inside." Halsin looked up, laying the last of the firewood in a neat pile next to the cabin.
"I hope everything is alright, my Heart. I will be inside in a moment." Astarion let out a huff before closing the window and continued his pacing. It did not take long for Halsin to enter the cabin, observing Astarion's nervous pacing. "What is troubling you?" Astarion scoffed, running a hand through his silver hair as he continued to walk.
"Something is wrong with them. First, I thought it was just a food sickness, but it’s been happening for days and now I can smell something is wrong! Something has changed! They won't listen to me; they keep telling me everything is fine! You have to talk to them and get them to see a healer, hells teeth have them even see Shadowheart at the least!" Halsin listened to Astarion rave before walking over to him and grabbing him by the shoulders and forcing his vermillion eyes to look into his hazel ones.
"My heart, nothing is wrong. I smell it too, but it is not a sickness." A frown twisted itself to Astarion's face before he scoffed at Halsin.
"Oh, then pray tell what is wrong with them, Halsin?" Halsin stared at Astarion for a moment before giving him a small smile.
"If I am correct, our dearest is pregnant. I don't know if even they are aware of it yet, but I've been around enough people to know how pregnancy changes a person's scent." Astarion stared at the large elf for a moment, his mind trying to wrap itself around the outlandish thought of their lover carrying a child. Not just any child, possibly their child. No, it couldn't be possible to be Astarion's. All logic pointed towards Halsin being the sire and while he knew he should be happy; it left a bitter taste in his mouth.
"Oh… you must be so happy. You two getting to play happy family." Astarion sneered, taking a step back away from Halsin. Halsin frowned before he signed and shook his head before looking back at the pale elf.
"Astarion, no matter who the sire of the child is, it does not change anything. You know that I love both of you and you know that they love both of us as well. We can raise the child together, the three of us." Halsin gave Astarion a soft smile, opening his arms to him. Astarion stared at him for a moment, letting his words sink in before stepping forward and into Halsin's open arms, buring his face into Halsin's neck and inhaling his calming scent.
"I know, I know you won't abandon me but… I don't know where I would fit in this anymore once we add a child into it." Halsin hummed softly as he held Astarion to him, rubbing his back gently.
"You would still be their father; the child will want not for love. You, Me, and our lover. Though I would let them tell us in their own time, if they already know I don't think they realize we can smell it on them." Halsin chuckled softly, Astarion smiling before letting go of Halsin and taking a step back.
"You… You are right. I don't know how we would exactly bring it up to them. 'Hey darling, just so you know we can smell that we've knocked you up.' I doubt that it wouldn't startle them at the very least." Halsin laughed, laying his hand on Astarion's shoulder shaking his head.
"Agreed. I am sure our Heart will figure it out in their own time and will share the good news with us when they are ready. Until then, how about we start some lunch? They should be returning from the city in due time, and I am sure they would be very appreciative to have something for their belly." Astarion nodded and a comfortable silence filled the space between the two elves as they started preparing a simple lunch.
~~~
It was within the hour that you returned to the cabin, excitement bubbling in your belly at the news you had learned from the healer you had told you. A gentle smile graced your face as you entered the cabin calling out for your lovers.
"Astarion, Halsin! I'm back!" You closed the door behind you, adjusting the basket you had in your arms. You could hear them in the kitchen area and soon Astarion entered the living room, smiling at you.
"Pet, I trust everything was alright? You didn't have to fight off any vagabonds?" You laughed and shook your head, walking to him and kissing his cheek.
"Nothing so exciting. Just got a few things we will be needing. I trust Halsin is in the kitchen?"
"I am, my Heart!" His voice carried as Astarion reached forward to take your basket only for you to move it out of his grasp, shaking your head.
"No, no. This is a surprise for you and Halsin. You can see what it is after we eat lunch." Astarion gave you a questioning look but relented, moving to the side and motioning for you to walk into the kitchen. You walked in and saw Halsin, finishing the meal's preparation. He looked over his shoulder at you and gave you one of his soft smiles.
"My Heart, how was your errand?" You returned his smile as you took a seat at the small table, putting the basket next to you.
"It was fine. Nothing too exciting." Astarion followed your lead, sitting next to you as Halsin set the light meal of meats, berries, and bread in front of you. "Actually I got something I wanted to show you and Astarion." He looked at you, puzzled before taking the last seat across from you.
"Oh? Any what is it?" His eyes darted from you to the basket, hiding his curiosity only a little bit better than Astarion who was trying to steal a glance into the basket. You reached into the basket, looking between the two of them.
"Close your eyes. And no peaking, Astarion." Astarion rolled his eyes but smiled as he closed his eyes as Halsin did the same. You reached into the basket, pulling out a soft baby blanket and a pair of tiny shoes. You set the blanket into Halsin's waiting hands and then the pair into Astarion's smiling. "Alright, go ahead and open your eyes.
They opened their eyes, looking down at their hands. Astarion's face went blank, gently touching the tiny shoes as if they would turn to dust. Halsin ran his large hands over the soft material, a smile gracing his face before he looked up to you.
"Was this your errand today, my Heart?" You nodded your head, placing your hand over your stomach.
"Yes, I missed my monthly bleeding and as Astarion has noticed I've been getting sick, so I went to see a healer today and confirm." Halsin stood up, walking to your side and kissing you gently and placing his hand over your own. You glanced over at Astarion as he sat there like a statue, staring at the tiny shoes.
"Astarion?" You tried to keep your voice calm, but it wavered slightly causing him to glance up at you. He did not say a word as he put the shoes down on the table, leaning over to you and placing his hand on top of yours and Halsin's.
"We're going to have a baby." You smiled and nodded your head, trying to blink back the tears that you could feel pricking up.
"Yes, we’re going to have a baby." Astarion gave you both a smile before kissing you gently as Halsin nuzzled your neck.
"I guess this means no more midnight snacks for me, from you at least." You laughed at Astarion, feeling Halsin chuckle.
"Not until we meet our newest arrival." Astarion's eyes drifted down to your hands, smiling softly.
"It will be worth it. Should we start a betting pool on if they are a boy or a girl?" Halsin laughed, throwing his head back and looked at Astarion.
"No matter what the cub is, they will be loved."
"Agreed." You smiled at the two of them, feeling overwhelmed with excitement and love with thoughts of the future.
CHAPTER TWO ▪︎ LIFE BEYOND THE WALLS (6.9k)
For being the guy who saved your life, Han Jisung turned out to be a pain in the ass.
It had been about three months since joining this post-rebellion group, if you could call it that. They reside in a small, fenced-in town, only about one intersection big. Before you'd been taken to where a group of them were camping out, waiting for the right time to strike the QZ for resources. Although you couldn't commend their actions, you understood them.
Fewer people lived in the town than there were in your squad, only six of them. You'd met Jeongin long before when he was a cadet with you, disappearing soon after. No one knew what happened to him, assuming he'd been bitten or died, but now you knew the truth, and Seungmin knew too. He'd stayed by you during your recovery, teasing you relentlessly about almost dying; you knew it was because the thought of that scared him.
Chan turned out to be exactly what Han had called him when you first met; the captain, although he didn't like to be called that, much more humble than some people. You'd properly met Chaeryeong after being able to leave the tent, learning she was the other sniper. Everyone had roles; Chan the leader, Chaeryeong and Han the snipers, and Jeongin the healer. The others you met were Hyunjin, a skilled fighter with liquid movements, and Felix, a recent recruit training next to Jeongin to learn medicine the best he could out here; a bit of a pacifist, but will do what's needed.
The first couple of weeks were tough; learning to move around with a broken limb was a first for you. Sure, you'd sprained your wrist or your ankle here and there during training, but you'd never had your leg crushed by a piece of wall before. Lucky for you, it was below your knee and a surprisingly clean break, but the healing process would be long regardless. Everyone here treated you hesitantly, unsure of your intentions. Seungmin was different, instantly earning respect from what Jeongin had told the group about him previously.
To say you felt like an alien was an understatement. After the first month it became clear that returning to your QZ was no longer an option. It had been too long, they wouldn't trust you anymore. You only brought up going back once during your first week there.
"How long do you plan on having us?" You'd asked Chan.
It was night and you were sitting on a pull out chair staring into a campfire in the backyard of his house. There were enough houses on this small intersection for the six of them, an extra reserved for people passing through.
"As long as you want or need to stay," He replied, looking over at you.
You couldn't meet his gaze. "I don't know if I can go back."
"Why not?" He asked. "It's not too late. You can say you escaped us and found your way back if they question you."
"I know, it's not that." You considered leaving it there, unsure how to phrase the next part. "The mission we were sent on wasn't supposed to go down like that. We were told it was a search and rescue and that most of the infected had left, but clearly that wasn't the case." You finally looked at him, face blank. "They sent us out to die."
He nodded, taking in the information. When he said nothing, you continued.
"Maybe my place isn't there anymore. I didn't grow up there like most others and never really felt like I belonged there," You sighed. "Then I met Seungmin and that changed, kind of. I always had Minho, but- ugh. It's complicated."
Waving a hand in the air, you shook your head.
"He's your family," Chan said slowly.
"He left me," Your words came out harsher than you expected. "And now I don't know what to think. Not to mention Minho knew what we were walking into and said nothing."
"Ouch," Chan hissed. "How does Seungmin feel about all of this?"
"Pretty sure he's glad to be out of there," You laughed. "He never liked it very much, always challenging authority subtlety... and not so subtlety."
You ended up sleeping on Chan's couch that night, too tired and heavy with emotions to return to your shared house with Seungmin; he knew you too well not to press.
Nobody said anything, just accepted you into the group after the first month passed and it became clear you weren't leaving. After that, people started interacting with you more, making small talk here and there. Your respect grew for each member the more you heard about their struggles to survive. It turned out the only one with experience in a quarantine zone outside of yourself, Seungmin, and Jeongin, was Hyunjin, which made sense to you as he had similar fighting techniques to the ones you've learned, but he's made them his own.
"I left when I was sixteen," He said one night while visiting you to cook dinner; "a proper welcome" as he put it. "Never looked back. Chan found me half dead in the back of a convenience store."
"He has a habit of doing that, huh?"
"Yeah," He laughed. "He really does."
Cut to present day where you're laying in bed early in the morning, Hyunjin lying next to you in the sun, rays reflecting in his dark eyes as he stares at you. He'd stayed over after another late night cooking session.
"Good morning," He smiles, propping himself up with his arm and using the other to trace a finger over your bare shoulder blade.
"Morning," You mumble, face half smushed into the pillow.
Not much later, you were dressed and ready for the day, leaving to meet up with Jeongin to check your leg. By now it was pretty much healed, but still aching. You haven't been allowed to leave town at all, staying back to rest. Hyunjin trailed a short distance behind you, humming a tune.
"Hey lovebirds," Seungmin teases as you step onto the porch, rolling your eyes. "Sleep well? Did you sleep?"
"Shut up," You playfully smack his shoulder, stopping next to him with a hand on your hip. "Jeongin inside?"
"Where else would he be?" Seungmin says. "Chan's there, Han too."
Groaning, you head in, knocking lightly so you don't startle anyone. You didn't have a problem with Han exactly, but he definitely had one with you. Since you arrived, he seems to have made it his life mission to annoy you, questioning your every move. It only got worse once you and Hyunjin became closer.
"What's going on?" You ask, joining the three in Jeongins dining room.
Chan looks up from the map displayed in front of him, eyeing Hyunjin as he sits next to you. A lot went unsaid about relationships within the group, but it wasn't hard to tell something was going on. In all your years in the QZ, you'd never acted upon feelings for someone in fear of rejection, but with him, it felt easy. You didn't need to say anything about your lack of experience in this field, he somehow just understood.
"A transmission came in today," Chan starts, pointing at a red mark on the map. "This is where we estimate it came from. Problem is, that it's in the middle of a huge city. There's no way we can get in there without detection. Chances are they're already dead by the time we get there."
"What was the message?" You ask, eyebrows furrowed. "Search and rescue? Resources? Info?"
"...yes?" Chan says. "First it explained the group was trapped in the lower level of a hospital when out on a medical run. They reached where they needed to be, but there are too many infected roaming the halls for them to get out the way they came, and the other way is blocked."
"Shit, that's not good." Hyunjin's eyebrows raise.
"No, it's not. We caught wind of this, but I'm pretty sure it was meant for a QZ to hear, not us. If we can get there first, we can gather the supplies we need as well since we're starting to run low." Chan straightens, analyzing the map. "We'd all have to go."
Thinking about it, this doesn't seem like the type of plan Chan would usually make, nor the kind of transmission he'd respond to. This was dangerous, risky; you knew him well enough to know he wouldn't put his people in that kind of situation for something so simple. There has to be more.
"This is a bad idea," You say, breaking the silence.
"Correct," Jeongin speaks for the first time since you've entered his home. "A terrible one."
He side-eyes Chan who ignores the look.
"These people might have information," Chan says carefully. "About... about Hannah."
Jeongin and Hyunjin startle at this, but only Hyunjin speaks. "Hannah? You really think so?"
"I think it's possible."
"Then we have to go, don't we?" Han looks around the table at everyone's faces.
"It's not that simple," Chan says, shaking his head. "Someone like her was described to be badly hurt; the whole reason they had to go to this hospital in the first place. It might not even be her. That's why I need you all to convince me this isn't worth it."
"Who's Hannah?"
Everyone looks at you.
"Um, sorry." You look away, picking at your nails. "Should I not ask that?"
"No, no, you can." Chan breathes. "She's my sister."
"Oh."
"Oh," Chan repeats. "'Oh' is right."
"How far is this city?" You ask. "And how sure are you it's her?"
"About three hours away from here, but we only have enough gas for half of that." Chan finally sits, running a hand through his short hair. "There's a gas station not too far we can walk to and we can siphon some from cars we pass. As for Hannah," he sighs and puts his arm out to reveal a tattoo on his wrist. "We have matching ones. Hers a star and mine the moon."
"Y/n and I can go to the gas station," Hyunjin volunteers. "I'm sure she'd love to get out now that she can."
You nod eagerly, watching Chan move his arm back to his lap.
"Are you sure you're up to this Y/n?"
"Yes, completely."
"Okay," Chan looks over to Jeongin. "Check her over and make sure she's okay to go first. And you, " He points to Han. "Go with them."
You suppress a groan.
"I mean, that's why she's here in the first place," Jeongin mumbles. "You just got here earlier than expected."
At the same time, Han says, "Aye-aye, Captain."
"My bad," Chan laughs sheepishly. "I'll see myself out then."
"Y/n, get over here." Jeongin stands, starting toward another room. "Hyunjin, Han, you stay there. Doctor-patient confidentiality and all that. You understand."
Hyunjin grumbles as you leave, a smile forming on your face. You have something good with him.
-
"Will there be infected, do you think?"
Hyunjin pouts his lips a bit, thinking for a moment. "No, there shouldn't be. I went on a patrol that passed through here two weeks ago with Han and we cleared out a few stragglers. There are tripwires in the surrounding perimeter that we put up that day too, to try and prevent more from showing up."
This is the first real chance you've had to see outside of the small town the group has built for themselves. Not far from town is the gas station, then further down, a bigger town. You'd asked once why they didn't fence in the bigger town in case they grew in numbers and couldn't house everyone, Chan saying it was all they could do at the time. And since then, they've only lost people.
One of the people they've lost must have been Hannah. As much as you want to know what happened to her and how they got separated, you didn't press Chan. He'd tell you if he wanted to and when it was important. Nobody really mentioned anyone else, too painful to relive the memories. You figured you were lucky. The closest you've become to losing someone was when Jeongin went missing, but even then, you barely knew him. Then there were your parents, but you were young and don't remember much of them.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Hmm?" You look up at Hyunjin, sunlight highlighting his soft features. "How do you people always know when I'm deep in thought?"
"You squint and angle your head." Hyunjin comes to a stop, hand finding yours. "And you furrow your eyebrows. It's really cute."
Hyunjin looks back at Han, who seems to be lost in his own thoughts. His other hand traces your brow bone down to your jaw and ends at your chin, tilting your head up to meet his eyes. Smiling, you start to lean in, and he does too. Lips barely touching yours, he pulls away at the sound of a vehicle approaching. You move apart and he pulls you to the side of the road, stepping slightly in front of you.
"Need a ride?" The truck slows next to you, window rolled down to reveal a man just older than you, maybe around Chan's age.
"Nope, we know where we're going," Hyunjin answers.
The man looks between you two and smirks. "Don't get too distracted out here, you never know what might get you."
With that, he drives away, a funny feeling left in your chest.
"What was that about?" You almost forgot Han was with you.
"Nothing," You say. "Let's keep going."
Han rolls his eyes and Hyunjin jogs up back next to you, hand on the small of your back. The feeling of his hand is a small comfort, easing the nerves in your belly. Not many people passed through this part so you didn't know how to take his warning. If he meant the infected, did he not notice your weapons? You're more than prepared for a fight.
There's a break in the trees signalling the gas station; a small building, once partially a coffee chain for people stopping in. The windows are broken and the door is gone, grass overgrown in the front, and years of wear and tear all over. An abandoned car sits by a pump, tires missing and windshield shattered. Inside is a skeleton in the driver's seat, body curved over the steering wheel. The trunk is popped open revealing an empty suitcase. Poor bastard was probably trying to get the hell out of here before things got bad.
"I'm gonna take a look inside!" You shout, already walking through the doorway.
"There won't be much, we cleared it out when we first found this place!" Han shouts back, getting to work on one of the pumps outside.
There are a few aisles of convenience items inside and to the right, most of which are cleaned out or have been damaged. Glass crunches under your feet as you walk around the bare aisles, scanning as you go. There really isn't much; Han was right for once.
"Oh, but there's this," You mutter, picking up a faded purple box near the back. "I'm sure Chaeryeong will be happy I found these."
You tuck the box into your backpack, the zipper stuck.
"You're kidding, right?"
The backpack refuses to open, so you sit down and struggle some more. Your back is facing the front, the counter to pay directly next to you with the aisle on the other side tightly. After a few moments of fighting and coming close to defeat, it unzips.
"Thank you!" You whisper.
Standing and spinning around, you're met with a decaying body facing away from you. Immediately, you cover your mouth, crouching down and moving slowly toward the back to the station. It begins to turn, limping with each step. You've successfully moved around the side, inching closer to the middle until you can see the door, now directly in front of you. If the infected continues down where it assumes you were, you should be able to leave and get to the others before alerting it.
Of course, that's not at all what happens.
Making a beeline to the door, you're stopped by another infected coming from your right. You collide with it, falling on your hands into the broken glass. The cuts sting, the infected tripping over your crouched body with a crash, and the other limping over to you. Thankfully this one is slow, but the one who tripped over you is already getting up as you examine your bleeding hands. You could call out for help, but if there are more, you don't want them to get to Hyunjin.
You pull out a knife, standing up fully to take on the infected beings, focusing on the fast one. It comes at you, wailing and arms swinging. You're able to dodge, a quick jump left into the aisle and a swipe to its arm drawing blood. Grabbing another knife by the tip, you aim at the limping one, throwing it expertly into the skull with a squelch. Gross.
As you're distracted, the one you swiped pulls around the other side to your back, lunging forward. Landing on your stomach, you're not in a position to fight back, pinned to the ground by surprisingly strong arms. Another wail escapes its lips close to your ear.
This is it, you think. I'm dying in the middle of a gas station convenience store. No wonder Hyunjin and I were so drawn to each other.
The full body weight of the infected falls on top of you, stealing your breath away.
"How many times am I gonna have to save your ass?" Han grunts as he pulls the body off of you, grabbing your arm to help you up.
You take it back. "I was doing fine."
"Two seconds away from being breakfast is fine?" Han beams. "Then I'm doing amazing!"
"Next time, let the zombie eat my face so I don't have to listen to you, okay?" You get close to his face, personal space be damned.
"Yeah, maybe I will." His eyes narrow. "Then I don't have to listen to you either. Win-win situation."
"Guys?" Hyunjin appears in the doorway. "Han, back away. Y/n, what the fuck?"
You look at him as Han steps back, arms crossed. "What?"
"Why didn't you call for help?" He looks betrayed. "I was right there-"
"I was handling it!" You whine.
"You weren't handling shit-"
"Han, not so respectfully, shut the fuck up. Step out." Hyunjin enters the store, leaving the doorway open, Han reluctantly leaving you two alone. "Didn't want him to hear this, but he had a point. The minute they both came after you, you should have yelled."
"Everything was fine until I got pinned," You argue, not meeting his eye. "And at that point, it would've been too late... usually."
Hyunjin sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. "I'm fast, it's why Chan keeps me around. I would have made it to you in time."
"Nuh-uh," You say, head snapping up to look at him. "Chan thinks of you as family, that's why he 'keeps you around'."
"We're not talking about me right now-"
"I think we are actually," you say, running your fingers gently down his arms. You take his hands in yours. "Do you really think that? You think he only values you for your skills?"
"Obviously," Hyunjin scoffs. "It's literally the apocalypse, there's no point in real relationships when you might die the next day."
You bite back a mean comment, taking a deep breath. "Is that what you think of us?"
"What? No! No, that's not-" He takes a hand back to run it through his hair. "I just mean he doesn't need me like that. I'm useful, but replaceable."
"Not to him," Your words soften. "Not to any of us, even Han."
Hyunjin laughs, head hanging down and your foreheads touch. All you do for a while is stand there with each other, urging your feelings to melt through your skin and seep into his, make him understand he's more than just a tool to be used.
"Hey, you guys done?" Han says, nerves leaking into his voice.
"What's wrong?" You let go of Hyunjin, walking outside.
"Those guys are back."
A couple of trucks pull in, one stopping directly in front of you. For a second you think he'll hit you, parking a few inches away from your feet. The same man from earlier steps out and closes the door, hard, leaning against it. He looks at the three of you standing together, taking extra time to take you in. Beside you, you can feel Hyunjin tense, and you grip your knife tighter.
"You three still here?" The man pulls out a crushed pack of cigarettes, lighting one up. "Any gas left? We're running low."
"Nope, just grabbed the last of it." Han lifts the red gas can. "There's another station about twenty minutes from here."
Another man emerges from the other side of the truck, rifle in hand. The one smoking comes closer and you finally move away from the truck, planning to walk away before he tries anything. There's another truck parked on the far side of the station and three more men with guns step out, blocking your path. You turn around, nearly running into the first man.
"Why go that far when we can take yours?" He blows a puff of smoke in your face and you barely hold back a cough, eyes stinging. "Hand it over."
You grab the can from Han before he can protest, sticking it out to the man. He goes to grab it, but you move away at the last second with a smirk. It dangles by your side.
"For what?" You tilt your head.
"This isn't up for debate, little lady," He scowls. "Now hand it over."
He makes another move to grab it, but you swing it behind you, angling your back toward Hyunjin who takes it from you. Growing irritated, the man grabs your wrist to discover it empty, roughly pulling you forward. A body comes between you and him, landing an attack on his arm and he lets you go.
"Get your hands off her," Han growls, pushing him back.
Beside you, Hyunjin stumbles forward. The gas can is no longer in his hand and you catch a glimpse of it in the hands of one of the other men, gun poking Hyunjin in the back. You feel the tip of another gun in your own and soon enough all are pointed at your group, fingers on the triggers. Han still has his arm up, taking in the threatening circle of people.
"I suggest you back up." The man drops his cigarette to the ground, crushing it with the toe of his boot.
There's nothing you can do except let the group walk away, gas can in hand, and return to the others. Chan won't be happy, but at least you'll be alive. You watch Han's fists clench by his side, no doubt resisting the urge to throw a punch or two. It doesn't take long for them to get back in their vehicles and drive off, leaving you defeated.
-
"You're kidding."
Chan runs a hand over his face, staying put on his chin with the other on his hip. He breathes slowly, walking to the window of his kitchen, and leans back on the counter. Although his body is facing you, his eyes are focused on something beyond you. The sunset peaks through the curtains behind him and you shift uncomfortably to cover the blinding light with his body.
On your left is Hyunjin, head hanging low, and Han stands on your right with his chin high in the air. If you look down, you can see his hands shaking.
"We had no choice." You speak first, holding Chan's gaze the best you can. Having experience in disappointing higher-ups in your QZ made it easier to be present in this conversation.
"You had a choice," He says. "Instead of going in the store Han specifically said was cleared out, you could have helped with collecting the gas and gotten out of there quicker."
A shiver runs down your back under his gaze. "It's kind of hard to help when we only have one can."
Chan exhales sharply, crossing his arms. You can tell he knows you have a point and doesn't want to admit it, opting to stay silent and let you continue.
"Besides, it wasn't completely cleared out," You say, digging through your bag to present what you found. "Not that it matters for you guys, but I'm sure Chaeryeong will be happy I found these. So if you need me, I'll be at her house."
You know you shouldn't walk out without being dismissed, but you can't handle the suffocating air of Chan's kitchen any longer. There's no protest as you leave, but can hear Han try to argue as the door shuts behind you. As much as you want to head straight to Chaeryeong's house, you take a detour to your own first. Seungmin should still be with Jeongin figuring out the best route to the hospital, so you should be in the clear to cry on your couch alone.
Dust particles shine in the light of the old house you now share with Seungmin, greeting you like an old friend. It makes your nose itch and your eyes dry, sniffling hard as you lean against the door. Saying you were overwhelmed would be an understatement. This was your first proper mission here and you fucked it up. Since coming here, all you've done is be a burden while Seungmin has actually been valuable to the group, mapping out routes to avoid squad patrols and leading them to better resources. And what have you done besides lay in bed with a broken leg? You're useless to them. Soon enough they'll realize and cast you out.
A sigh escapes your lips as you slide down the door, tossing your bag to the side. Will there ever be a day you don't overthink every action, every word you say? Probably not, but maybe with enough time you'll just stop caring, stop listening to that voice in the back of your head. Or maybe it will win. Only one way to find out; keep going.
-
"Rise and shine!" A jacket is tossed over your face, effectively waking you. "Get out of bed, we're leaving."
"Huh?" You groan, sitting up. Your bones crack and your neck is stiff from where you fell asleep on the couch. "Leaving? And what are you doing here?"
Han walks back in front of you, taking a seat on your coffee table. The wood creaks and for a second you imagine it snapping, sending the man in front of you onto his ass, making you snort.
"What?"
"Nothing." You wave off his look of annoyance. "Answer my questions first."
His eyes narrow. "Chan sent me over to get you. We're heading to the hospital today, all of us. He said you better not drag us down more than you already have."
Oh.
"Let's get a move on," He stands, a strange expression on his face after seeing yours drop. "Everyone's already in the truck. You'll have to sit in the back with me."
"Yeah, okay." You don't have it in you to argue.
Taking one last look around the house you've been living in for the past few months, you wonder what you would be doing if you had gone back to your QZ. You pick up the jacket Han threw; it's one of yours, a worn black denim with a patch to signify your rank on the breast pocket. It wasn't mandatory, but you liked people knowing where you stood when you walked around in casual clothes, even if it wasn't a high ranking. There was a sense of belonging when you saw others in uniform with their matching patches, always able to blend in with a crowd.
You rip the patch off.
"Done?" Han stands in the open doorway, having watched you make this silent choice.
All you do is nod, slipping the jacket on as you walk past him. It's early, the sun not quite rising yet; morning dew wets your boots as you jog to the truck. Chan is standing by the driver's side door, no doubt waiting on you and Han. Inside is Seungmin in the passenger's side, and Chaeryeong, Hyunjin, and Jeongin in the back, although you can barely see them through the tinted windows. With a nod to Chan, you throw your bag over and hop in the back. There's a little window behind where you settle yourself, opening it to poke Hyunjin in the back of the head.
"What-" He shifts in his seat, disgust leaving his face when he sees it's you. "I thought you were Han. Did you want to sit in here? We can kick Jeongin out-"
"No, you will not." Jeongin locks his door and you laugh.
"I'm fine here." The truck dips as Han hops over, sitting closer to the end. "Besides, if I get annoyed with him I can just throw him over."
Hyunjin makes eye contact with Han as he looks over at your words and your eyes follow. He's sitting with his gun over his lap, bag on the opposite side. It doesn't take long for Han to look away, shifting to face the road as Chan starts up the vehicle.
"Weird," You say, looking back at Hyunjin who rolls his eyes. "Sitting that way is gonna be uncomfortable now that we're moving."
"It's worth it if I'm talking to you," Hyunjin smiles. "Besides-"
"Y/n!" Felix bounds over the edge of the truck. "Looks like we'll be together this ride."
"Lix, you interrupted me," Hyunjin whines. "I was going to say, at least I won't be bored."
"We aren't boring," Jeongin chips in.
"Y/n is more entertaining." Hyunjin pouts.
You lean in, pressing a kiss onto his pouting face and soon enough he's smiling into you. When you break away, Hyunjin sighs and turns back around, the truck finally moving. Closing the small window, you get as comfortable as you can in the back, shifting your backpack behind you to use as a cushion. Having Felix join you let you relax a bit knowing he can keep Han distracted when he inevitably wants attention you won't give. If he wasn't such a little shit, you could actually be friends.
The roads Chan takes are bumpy and surrounded by trees, no sign of life around you, not that the infected would really fall under 'life'. For a while, things seem peaceful. You watch Felix's hair blow across his face as he leans back, eyes closed. Although you knew some would think your watching to be strange, you liked to be able to take in details of another person. The rise and fall of his chest and the way his lips are parted in a light sleep; the freckles dusting his face and the small scar running through his right eyebrow.
Looking at Han, you can see the way he fiddles with the strap of his bag laid next to him. He's too far to observe in great detail, but you see the way his eyes wander across the landscape, deep in his head. There's a moment you catch his breathing quicken and he sits up more, crossing his legs and placing a hand on each knee. His eyes close and he takes a deep breath through his nose and out of his mouth, repeating several times. You shouldn't be watching this.
"Hey, Han." You crawl over to him, sitting by his side. "What's going on in there?"
You point at his head and he looks at you strangely.
"What?" He moves away.
"You seem tense," You shrug. "How long do you think until we get there?"
Changing the subject appeared to be a better plan as Han returns your shrug. "I'd say we have about thirty more minutes until we run out of gas. Then we walk the rest of the way which'll take at least a few more hours than driving would have taken."
"Do you think they'll still be alive?" You ask quietly. "The people at the hospital?"
It's weird to think of all the experience the people around you have and your lack of it, knowing everything in theory but not in practice. Other than what was supposed to be your first mission outside of the QZ, you've never truly seen what the apocalypse has brought onto the world, not first-hand. The time before, when you were a child, you don't remember. You don't remember the harsh world your parents died to protect you from or the way they loved despite it all.
"Truthfully?" You nod. "...I don't know. I hope so. This means a lot to Chan, finding Hannah. He won't tell anyone, but we all know how much of a toll losing her took on him. We knew she wasn't dead, just.. gone, which is almost worse because who knows what she's been going through without us? And he blames himself, he always does for anything that happens to one of us."
There's nothing you can say to that, only nodding your head again. Everyone in this group cares so much, loves so much. How could you ever fit into that?
"Do you have siblings?" Han asks after a beat. "Back in your zone?"
Part of you thinks of Minho, who looked after who when no one else was there. "Not by blood."
"Who needs blood when you have soul?" Han looks at you, really looks at you. "You miss them."
"So what if I do-" You start, but the feeling of something missing sets in. You haven't even talked to Seungmin about missing Minho. "I... really fucking do. I miss him so much, and I don't know why I'm telling you of all people."
He laughs at that, and you do too. "Because you don't care what I'll say back to you?"
"Hmm, true," You laugh again. "Sometimes I think about the fact I'll never see him again and it's like, that's cruel. The universe gives you someone only to rip them away without a goodbye. A glimpse of their face and boom, gone. Never to be seen again. He probably thinks I'm dead. He probably thinks you guys killed me." You pause, looking away from Han, focusing on the passing trees. "He never even came looking for me."
"Hey," Han places a hand on yours gently. "You don't know that. Maybe he's just looking in the wrong place."
All you can do is nod again, tears brimming at the edges of your eyes. It's not much later the truck slows down and you let go of Han's hand, crawling back to where you were before to grab your bag. This must be the part you start walking.
Chan is the first to step out of the vehicle, taking in your surroundings and examining a map on the hood of the truck. Jeongin and Seungmin join his side, mumbling amongst themselves. Hyunjin helps you out of the back, picking you up so you don't have to jump down. Out of the corner of your eye you spot Han looking at you again, but pay him no attention.
"You and him make up?" Hyunjin forces a smile and gestures toward Han.
"No," You say, not wanting him to get the wrong idea. "We had a civil conversation and that was that."
"Good," Hyunjin smiles more genuinely this time, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and leading you to the front.
"We go straight for a while longer before hitting a main road. There's a highway we need to cross, so keep your weapons handy when we get to that part." Chan clears his throat. "Stay in pairs as we walk, I don't want anyone wandering off and getting lost."
A hand clasps yours; Hyunjin, of course. Chan takes the lead, Seungmin and Jeongin close behind, then Chaeryeong and Felix. Han trails slightly behind you, clearly not wanting to join you and Hyunjin, but not wanting to bother the others either. You make sure to look back every once in a while to ensure he's still there. As much as he and you may not get along, you know how much he means to the group, and that's enough to want to keep him safe.
By the time you make it to the highway, your legs are aching from the distance. Abandoned cars litter the large street, dirty and broken, relics of the past. Here, the wind is stronger and you hold on tightly to Hyunjin. He switches from holding your hand to hooking arms, feeling more secure. The highway groans loudly from the wind and you have to crouch down to stop yourself from falling over the edge.
"Maybe we should stay put until the wind dies down!" Chaeryeong calls out, brushing hair out of her face. "It's not safe to continue!"
"As long as we walk in the middle, we should be fine!" Han passes you and Hyunjin, eyeing you as he does.
"No, Chaer is right," Chan stops the group. "Just for a little while. Then we can continue down the middle."
Biting his lip, and no doubt an argument, Han sits with his back against the van ahead of you with Chaeryeong and Felix. Hyunjin has an arm around you again, holding you close to him. The door to the car you're using as a shield is slightly ajar, and you can see the front seats are empty.
"Hey," You turn to Hyunjin. "Wanna sit inside? I think I can pry this open."
"Sure, it'd be a hell of a lot more comfortable than concrete," He laughs.
Sticking a larger knife into the opening, you pull back with your full body weight. The door comes swinging open, knocking you back against another car.
"Ta-da," You rub your head where it hit the opposing door. "Get in."
As Hyunjin starts to climb over the passenger seat, a blur of bodies comes tumbling out of the car, screaming and limbs flailing. It doesn't take long to register the infected attacking Hyunjin, and you're quick to grab the knife that you used for the door.
"Get the fuck off of him!" You shout, hopping onto it's back, wrapping an arm around it's neck to keep it from biting.
Stabbing now is too risky, too much of a chance of hitting Hyunjin with the way the infected is grabbing him. You kick it's arms, releasing the man under you and allowing him to roll to the side. The infected stands with you still on it's back, turning in harsh circles, and it takes everything in you to hold on. Your knife goes flying. As it attempts to scratch and grab at you, it begins getting closer to the edge.
"Someone shoot this thing!" You're starting to panic, unable to let go long enough to grab another knife.
Your bodies hit the edge, and you finally let go only to be caged in by the infecteds arms. It goes in for a bite, and you wrap your hands around its neck, holding it away the best you can. This thing is strong, teeth getting closer by the second. You're leaning half over the edge and your back cracks, which actually feels quite nice, but you're sure you'd enjoy it more if you weren't about to be breakfast.
Quick thinking, c'mon, where are you?
Bringing your leg up in the tight space between your bodies, you plant your foot on its chest and push, successfully getting its teeth away from you and-
And you're rolling over the edge. One hand barely latches onto the concrete wall, the rest of your body dangling over and you watch the infected looking down at you. Weird, the way it snarls and yells, but doesn't leap over or scratch at you or anything. You can hear shouting on the other side and the body falls limp, slipping over. As it falls, you twist your body so your shoulders hit the wall and the body moves right past you. Your arm is twisted painfully in the process, but you figure that's better than falling to your death, so. Two hands grab your slipping fingers and you reach up blindly, another set of hands helping you over.
"Thanks for the help guys," You say, voice dripping in sarcasm as Chan and Hyunjin move past you.
No one answers, staring over where you were just hanging onto dear life. Chan's shoulders are tense, hand holding the edge until his knuckles turn white. He's shaking his head and when Hyunjin looks at him, you see his mouth is wide open.
"I've never seen this many of them in one place," Chan speaks, and you join them.
"Oh," You gasp. "Oh my god."
Hundreds, if not thousands, of infected cover the highway running underneath the one you stand on, all heading in the same direction. The groaning you heard earlier comes not from the giant bridge, but from the bodies below, wailing and crying.
"Good thing we don't have to go down there, yeah?" Felix chimes in as the rest gather with you.
"Yeah," Chan says, eyebrows furrowed. "We need to keep moving."
A Moment Together
Baldur's Gate 3
Halsin x Tav!Reader
Summary: After a long day of hard work and battle, you and Halsin decide to spend the remaining hours of the day in each other's company during which you are eager to make sure he feels as relaxed as possible.
Notes: Fluff (so much that it's disgusting lol), hair brushing, no spoilers, just good vibes :)
Tumblr media
“Alright, that should be enough.”
The heavy pieces of firewood you had spent almost the entirety of the day gathering fell on the ground with a loud thud, the positive exclamations of gratitude from the others soon following. It was always a rather tedious task, but it proved to be one of the most rewarding. No one could sleep or relax after a hard day in the coldness of the night unless you happened to have an infernal engine for a heart. Karlach was lucky in that aspect, you thought.
The sun still peaked through the thick trees of the forest, though it would not take long until it would retreat behind the horizon. Looking around the camp, everyone seemed just about ready to shed the weight and responsibilities of working to find a solution to your parasite issue and enjoy some much needed rest. The tents were put up, the bedrolls were set around the campfire and the heavy pieces of gear and armor were abandoned in favor of something more comfortable.
You ought to do the same soon.
However, your mind soon wandered when a certain druid entered your vision. A smile crept up to your lips. You were reminded of something you had said earlier in the day, a promise of a moment for just the two of you. Halsin was quick to relax his gaze as he looked over the camp and noticed how everyone seemed content. Should there have been an issue, he would have most likely been the first one to volunteer and offer his help, being the kindhearted druid he was. The thought only made you smile more.
As soon as his eyes found you, you were quick to point to the edge of the camp with a tilt of your head, your feet slowly carrying towards the direction. You were inviting him for a stroll, as you had discussed previously, and he certainly hadn’t forgotten, as he quickly followed you.
The camp slowly disappeared behind you and once it did, Halsin was quick to intertwine his large hand with yours, a gesture he often did when you shared a moment together. You were sure the rest of the camp was privy to the way you two shared glances, some of them were rather… perceptive, and secrecy wasn’t something either of you desired. Perhaps it merely felt more natural when there weren’t others present. Halsin certainly seemed more at ease like this.
“You seemed quite busy today,” you commented, remembering how you hadn’t seen him much all day. It was not terribly unusual, but to say you did not miss him would be a lie. He hummed.
“There was a shortage of potions and other healing items. So I made a longer journey to find a merchant.” You nodded as you listened, but also frowned your brows.
“We do have you and Shadowheart with us…” If you were honest, you were not sure why spend the effort to gather potions when your group consisted of more than one healer. Your thoughtful muttering reached his pointed ears and he was quick to let out a hearty chuckle.
“That may be so. But it does not hurt to be resourceful. We do journey separately at times, after all.”
“That’s true.”
You could not help but smile. Halsin had always been looking over everyone, making sure to offer his help whenever it may have been needed. His kindness was admirable, and in truth, it was needed during times like these.
You continued to walk by his side, his larger stature perfectly framed by the setting sun that continued to seep through the branches and leaves. To not look at him would have been a crime, so you allowed your eyes to wander, taking in his utter beauty as you walked. He had a small but fulfilled smile upon his lips, and his eyes idly looked around ever so slightly, marveling at the grace of nature.
The journey led you two to a gentle stream that flowed through the forest. The water was crystal clear and the warm colors of the sun were reflected on the calmly moving surface beautifully. You were sure this same stream spread into the vast lake just next to your camp.
Giving glances at each other, the silent decision was made to rest here and unwind after yet another long day, maybe even fall asleep. It wouldn’t have been the first time, and Halsin always made sure to keep you warmer in ways a mere campfire never could.
You carefully sat down on the ground, Halsin keeping your hand in his until you were fully seated. He then laid down, placing his weary head on your lap, looking up at you with a smile that made your heart swell. The habit of his was incredibly endearing, there was just something about this druid, built like the most durable stone wall, gently lying beneath you at the mercy of your touch.
Smiling at him, your hands immediately went to his hair, pulling it back until all of it pooled in your lap. Tilting your head, you looked at his locks, noticing how they had some woodchips and tangles in them. Not a rare sight, quite natural, even. But you frowned, though playfully.
“Shall I brush it?” You asked, making sure to not pull on the knots with your fingers. A small chuckle left his lips.
“I have my doubts you’ll let me get up if I do not accept.” The sarcasm in his tone was obvious, it made you scoff jokingly.
“Of course not. What would the others think?” You sighed and groaned dramatically. “Imagine how horrified Astarion would be!”
Halsin laughed, that pleasant sound ringing in your ears long after he stopped. His laugh was contagious, so you briefly joined him, while reaching for your pocket and pulling out a comb. You looked down at him again.
“Well, what say you?” Your smirk was once again jesting, but his smile was genuine.
“Go right ahead, my heart.”
Smiling, you carefully began running the comb through his hair, noting how he let out a deep breath at the sensation. Brushing his hair had become somewhat of a regular activity, you did it for him every time you could. He enjoyed it. To be surrounded by nature and touched by you so attentively, he could not even begin to think about any better way to forget about the harshness of reality that affected everyone.
You had always thought that Halsin was far too considerate for his own good. He often put himself before others, especially with you. Though it was an incredibly valuable trait, it often left you wondering if anyone ever did anything for him. That’s why you helped him whenever you could, that’s why you held his hands and asked if he needed anything, that’s why you brushed his hair.
Halsin’s breathing was calm and paired with the gentle trickle of the stream as the sun slowly set, you felt like all the horrid things that happened around you did not exist, even if it was for a brief moment.
His hair was mostly rid of its previous debris and the comb flowed through it effortlessly. You were more or less done but felt like something was missing. Placing the comb down, you ran your fingers through his locks, marveling at the length. His long hair was always open, flowing freely in the wind. As nature intended, you thought.
You took a brief look at him. His eyes were closed as if he was asleep, but you doubted this was the case. Regardless, he looked peaceful and you felt a wave of satisfaction hit you. It would be a lie to claim that it didn’t feel rewarding to see this druid, so concerned for everyone else and working tirelessly to ensure safety among everyone, at ease and utterly relaxed.
Gathering his hair into your hands, you sectioned it and began interweaving them. Halsin surely felt it, as his eyebrow raised ever so slightly. You had never done this before.
“Trust the process,” you said to which he gave a humorous hum. His hand rested on his abdomen and he took a deep breath, simply enjoying the way your fingers touched and gently tugged his brown hair.
As you reached the end of the braid, you looked for something to tie it with. You spotted a flower, white petals practically glowing in the moonlight. It had already been plucked from the ground, so you did not feel bad for reusing it for the greater good. You took a small piece from the base of the stem and used it to tie the end of the braid, to ensure that it would stay put.
You looked at your work and Halsin seemed to sense that you were done, as he slowly sat up, and turned to you. And as you looked at him, you could not stop the heat that spread across your cheek.
The loose braid rested upon his broad shoulder and his large frame was illuminated by the moon, giving him an almost otherworldly aura. His fingers brushed along the braid, there was some surprise in his expression, but it quickly melted away when he noticed how you looked at him.
“I suppose I can compete with Astarion now?” Halsin chuckled as he spoke to which you couldn’t contain a smile.
“Well, almost.” Your hand reached for the flower you had used to tie his hair with and you scooted closer to him, lifting yourself so your eyes were on the same level. Even when sitting down, he towered over you. Carefully, you brushed some of his hair that framed his face behind his ear, the flower following soon after. It came to rest against his ear, giving him a look that seemed to blow you away.
You retreated from him, grinning on the outside, but screaming and squealing inside at how incredibly beautiful he looked.
“Now I’d say you have a chance.”
Halsin pulled you to him as you both laughed, holding you close. He was warm, he always was. You pulled away to look at him, the affectionate sparkle in his hazel eyes warming your heart.
“Thank you, my heart. You… Do so much for me.”
If only he realized. This was nothing compared to what he did not only for you but for everyone. You smiled for what felt like the thousandth time and kissed him, keeping your hands on the sides of his face. The night had fallen, and all possible thoughts of returning to the others faded away. Tonight, you would sleep under the stars, dozing off to the soothing sounds of the stream with him next to you before repeating the grueling routine of the day all over again.
But it felt worth it. For moments like these, you’d do anything.
hey bby I luv ur works!! can u pls do jealous/possessive teyam?? maybe the reader was spending too much time with another guy and didn’t notice how it was making him feel. fluff ofc!
jealous neteyam
Tumblr media
pairing: neteyam sully x omatikaya! reader tags & warning: oblivious reader, neteyam's patience was tested, feelings of anger and jealousy summary: your kindess was the one thing that neteyam loved but disliked at the same time. sometimes, you never notice when a guy is making approaches at you. he has heard that you made a new friend, but he didn't know that friend felt awfully comfortable around you. word count 1.3k index sevin - pretty, olo'eyktan - clan reader
my first request <3 i was really eager to write this. i hope you like it !! i've always pictured neteyam as a soft lover
Tumblr media
You were in the healer's tent. Another woman was about to give birth, and Mo'at needed all the assistance she could get without leaving the tent unattended just in case someone needed help. So, you volunteered to stay behind.
However, you weren't alone. Vayem saw you and noticed that you were alone, then decided to accompany you. The two of you grew closer over the past days ever since he got injured badly from their hunt.
Apparently, his party that was being led by Neteyam and they were in search for food to feed the whole clan. They were successful in retrieving food, but a palulukan spotted them and ferociously chased them. Vayem wasn't quick enough to avoid the animal completely, resulting him to recieve a gash on the back. Neteyam assissted him on walking towards the healer's tent, and there you were.
You and Vayem had never spoken to each other before simply because you never crossed paths. Maybe you did, but the two of you never took notice of each other. But after he got injured, Vayem visited more often with or without injuries. You appreciated the company, plus he wasn't boring to be around with.
Vayem always had something funny to say, a laugh escaping from your lips everytime. His hand would linger on your thigh longer than what friends would do, but you didn't think much of it like you would ever. He sent hints, even obvious ones to you, but you never noticed them.
Eventually, you thought of them as platonic actions. When he would put his arm around your shoulder and pull you closer so that you two could walk together, or when he would hold both of your hands when the two of you laughed hard at a story that he shared.
Everything seemed platonic to you.
Vayem snickered, "I swear, Lo'ak would make the Olo'eyktan's hair fall out soon."
"I know," you chuckled, nodding as you did so. "He's always been brave and adventurous."
He hummed, eyes trailing to your top. His eyebrows raised in curiousity. "Is that a new top?" asked Vayem.
"Yes! What do you think? I wanted to show Neteyam, but his father called him in."
Vayem met your eyes which were filled with anticipation, waiting for his judgement. He drifted his eyes down back to the top. You were always creative, there was no doubt about that.
"You look beautiful," says Vayem. And he wished that this time you would take the hint when he looks back at you, but your eyes weren't looking at him. They were looking at what's above him, and they were shining brightly. He instantly knew who you were looking at.
"She is beautiful, isn't she?"
Vayem peered behind him, and saw Neteyam staring down at him. The Olo'eyktan's eldest son's sharp eyes spoke volumes, he was warning him.
You gleamed, "Neteyam!" You stood up from the ground, and jumped into his arms.
He chuckled at your exuberance, wrapping his arms around your waist. He rested his chin on your shoulder, staring at Veyam, who had previously gotten up. When Neteyam's palm caressed your back until it rested just above your ass, Veyam tried to disguise his grimace.
Neteyam smirked.
You pulled away, your arms still around his neck. "I thought you were busy assisting your father?"
"I was, but he dismissed me early." He leaned down and pressed his lips against yours. It started off soft, until his tongue slipped inside your mouth making you gasp.
With flushed cheeks, you pushed away. "Teyam, we're not the only people here," you whispered.
He shrugged without a care. "So? Maybe he should leave then."
You slapped his shoulder as you scolded, "Neteyam! Don't be rude."
Vayem cleared his throat, capturing your attention. He grinned and patted your shoulder. "It's okay. I will take my leave. I'll see you tomorrow?"
Neteyam glared at the hand that stayed on your shoulder. The audacity this boy have… to touch his girl right in front of him with no shame.
"See you, Vayem." You smiled.
The two shared an intense glare as Vayem walked past him, and you were oblivious to the weird vibe they shared.
"What do you think of my top?" You detached yourself from him, gesturing on the material with a proud look on your face. "Your mother gave me the feathers because she thought it would look good on me, and Tuk helped me find the beads to match it."
The thought of his sister and mother bonding with you caused a small smile to appear on his lips. It's one of the things he admires about you: you've effortlessly built a close friendship with his family. But the fact that he wasn't the first to notice you in this new material made his jaw clench.
"You and Vayem have gotten close," he pointed out as he fiddled with the feather on you.
You pouted when you haven't got an answer. "Yes, he's really funny."
Neteyam looked at you, jealousy written all over his face. "Oh? Have you been spending time without him when I'm not around?"
It took you quite a while to discover that something was wrong with the boy in front of you. He overlooked your question to begin with. Normally, he would shower you with compliments and affection. You couldn't figure out why he seemed agitated.
"Yes." You nodded slowly, eyeing him carefully. "Sometimes, he assists me with finding the herbs that I need in the forest. Most of the time, he stays with me here when I'm alone."
Neteyam scoffed in disbelief. He shook his head, a sarcastic laugh escaping from his lips. You only looked at him with confusion. "Neteyam?"
"He has no shame. His advances are obvious."
"Advances?" you pinched your eyebrows together. "He does not like me. He's only a friend."
"You are naive, sevin, if you think he wants to be your friend."
"I am not!" You crossed your arms defensively, turning away from him. Vayem may have been acting sweet towards you, but he was just being a gentleman. Right?
Neteyam sighed and placed his hand on your shoulder, moving to stand beside you. "Look, I don't mind if you have guy friends. But, sevin, these guys don't just want to be your friend. Did you see the way Vayem told you how beautiful you were?"
You looked at him with a teasing smile. "I feel priviledged to know that the mighty warrior jealous of men interacting with me."
"I trust you, I don't trust them."
You wrapped your arms around his torso, basking in his scent. Neteyam instantly engulfed you in his arms, leaning the side of his head against yours.
"I think I've knew all this time that Vayem liked me. I just didn't want to assume he did because I would be embarrassed if I spoke to him, and he tells me that he only sees me as a friend," you admitted. Your skin tingled as his palm stroked against your back, your tail standing tall.
"Sevin, if only you knew how many warriors wanted you before I had you."
You looked up, grinning at him. "Yeah? I only have eyes for one, though. The mightiest one of them."
Neteyam chuckled, his cheeks turning into a light blush. He was sure that you could hear his heart beating fast, and it made your smile widened. Eywa, that smile. The people would think that you were lucky to be chosen by him, but he begs to differ.
Your heart was filled with kindness and love. How much you give isn't limited to the people closest to you, and Neteyam considers himself special to recieve the most of your affection.
"From now on, I'm asking Lo'ak or Kiri to stay by your side," he declared, but you knew he was joking.
"Oh, yes, because Lo'ak would make a great guard."
"Or Tuk. She bites, you know?"
"Neteyam!"
Kinktober Day 29: Breath Play- Thranduil
Summary: Thranduil punishes you in an unexpected way
Word count: 1, 887
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The culture of the Woodland Realm held their royalty in high regard. If you were ever to meet the king and prince, let alone protect one of them, it would be a great honour.
You had strict orders to protect the prince while he went after some of the horrible spiders that infested the woods. King Thranduil doesn’t like his son doing such a thing but makes sure to assign his very best to go with him and keep him safe. Fellow elves had put in a good word about you and the king was convinced to let you go with him. Unfortunately for you, it seems you ruined that very lucky opportunity.
Though you were a skilled archer and fighter, you had failed to keep the prince safe. Returning to his home, he had to be raced to the healers, luckily he lived, but you were still in a lot of trouble. Your fellow elves didn’t want to tell on you, but they fear Thranduils wrath more than any positive feelings they had for you.
Standing in front of the very ornate doors of Thranduils private chambers, you knew you had definitely failed, and badly.
“Come in.” His deeply kingly voice called out.
Fear coursed through your veins as you stepped into his large and lavish chambers, the door slamming behind you didn’t help matters. Seeing him sit in his large armchair by the fire, you couldn’t help the lust that also began to course through your veins. His eyes slowly made their way to yours, a silent rage on his face as he scanned over you. Trying to slow your speeding heart was no use when he looked at you in that way, you weren’t sure if he wanted to kill you or fuck you. Both options running through your head made your heart race, your body heat and unfortunately your pussy begin to quake.
You had failed to protect his son, of course it was death that he had planned for you. Though you knew that would be your fate, your mind couldn’t help but to think of the other option.
He stood so abruptly that you couldn’t help but jump, though when he began long and dominant strides towards you, your body froze. There was nothing you could do but stand stare as he approached you with anger in his eyes. Standing above you and looking directly into your eyes, you couldn’t help but tremble as you stare up at him.
“My son, my only child, could have died today and it is all your fault.” He spat maliciously at you.
“Yes, your highness, and I can not apol-“
“I don’t want to hear weak apologies from you.” He cut you off, venom laced in his words.
Unexpectedly his face began to soften slightly as his eyes narrowed at you. Though he seemed calmer, it frightened you even more. You had to force yourself not to flinch as his hand softly touched the side of your cheek. Confusion was etched onto your face from his gentle touch, it felt so warm and caring that you couldn’t help but let your eyes flutter shut.
The surprisingly sweet moment was cut short however as his fingers dug into your hair and shoved your head back. Your eyes fly open from shock and suddenly he’s standing even closer to you, his face inches from your own as his eyes stared into yours.
Your furrowed brows now shoot up and your eyes fill with worry as his other hand grips strongly over your throat and squeezes. His strong hand squeezes so tightly around your throat, you can’t breathe and you still can’t move.
You try to choke out an apology but his hand previously in your hair now makes its way past your lips and down your throat. Panic begins to set in as you choke down his long fingers, your lack of air making your head feel light. In this moment you should be scared, should fear for your life, but with the intrigue on his face and the bulge you can feel rubbing against you, you can’t help but feel extremely aroused.
Once your eyes begin to flutter again, your head feeling dangerously light, Thranduil removes his hands from your throat and mouth. Air begins to fill your lungs again as you gasp and sputter before the king. Your relief is short-lived however as his strong hand returns its grip to your hair and the other now has a bruising grip on your hip.
“No apology you could even attempt to muster would make up for what you’ve let happen today. Once I let you go, you will kneel before me and show me just how sorry you really are. Maybe once you’ve taken your punishment, you will truly understand.”
Your head was whirling. Surely this was just a lust driven illusion and really you’ve passed out. Perhaps he wasn’t going to do what your dirty mind thought he was anyway, he did say ‘punishment’ so maybe he still was going to kill you.
Feeling his grip disappear from your hair and hip, you instinctively dropped to your knees in front of the king, your eyes never leaving his. Gently his hand comes down to sit on your jaw, his thumb lightly playing with your bottom lip.
“Open your mouth.” He orders dominantly, his steel stare not leaving your eyes.
Even though he’s ordered you to, you can’t seem to, your body frozen in shock as you stare back at him. Your confused state makes him smirk down at you. As he crouches down, his lips gently ghost by your ear, goosebumps raising on your skin and your pussy quakes.
“Come on now, y/n, I’ve seen the way you stare at me when you think I can’t see. I bet you’ve touched yourself thinking of me, haven’t you?”
Before you could reply he stood to his proud height again, smirking down at your shocked expression. His hand returns to your jaw, but this time with a harsher grip, his thumb pushing down on chin.
“Open.” He harshly orders once again.
Finally complying, your jaw opens wide for him. As your jaw widens, so does his smile. Staring up at him you wondered what he’d do next, though you’d not be left wondering long as his long fingers pushed into your mouth. Just like before, his fingers pushed into your throat, forcing you to gag and drool. Your body panicked again as you tried to breathe through your nose and you didn’t think Thranduil could be more cruel, until his thumb and forefinger pinched your nose, cutting off all air.
Your mind was whirling with both panic and arousal. The lack of air and the way Thranduil stares down at you makes your head feel light and airy. Mindlessly you begin to grind into the air, desperate for friction on your throbbing pussy.
Thranduils eyes darken as he sees the way your hips move. His fingers abruptly leave your throat, and before you could properly catch your breath, his hand grabs at your hair and was tugging your head back once again. His other hand comes around your throat, holding your head still and slightly cutting off your air.
“Don’t forget that this is a punishment, you little whore. I could smell your arousal the moment you came through the door. You almost get my son killed and this is the way you will pay your debt. Now be still and take your punish like a good little whore.” He growled down at you, accentuating his point by squeezing your throat pointedly.
Releasing both your hair and throat, you try to subtly catch your breath again. Never breaking eye contact with you, Thranduil makes quick work removing his robe and pulling down his trousers, revealing his very hard and very impressive cock.
“Now open wide and keep still for your king.” He commands confidently.
Not needing to be told twice you quickly open your mouth as wide as you can for his impressive cock. He gives you no time to prepare or adjust as he thrusts into your awaiting mouth and begins to thrust harshly. His hand returns to around your throat, relishing in being able to feel his cock inside you.
Tears and saliva fall down your cheeks and chin as you struggle to hold still and take what he is giving you so aggressively. He just smirks down at you viciously as his grip on your throat keeps you still.
Once again you thought your punishment couldn’t get any worse, until his fingers pinched your nose and again cut off all your air. You began to panic and started to move, but Thranduils grip on your throat strengthened.
“Be still.” He hissed down at you.
Not wanting to take anymore of his wrath, you did your best to stay still. As your head became light again, Thranduil appeared almost as a vision above you. His head was thrown back, eyes closed shut and mouth open in a state of bliss. Your punishment was to be used as a tool for him to masturbate and you tried not to enjoy it so much.
When your vision started to darken at the sides and you felt too weak, Thranduil was merciful enough to release his hands and his cock from your body. Finally being free, you choke and cough out, trying to get air back into your lungs. Thranduil simply chuckles as he takes your cheeks in one hand, staring at you as if you were a piece of art.
In your current state, Thranduil saw you as a vision. He once again took his cock in his hand and began to pump his length to the sight of you, if you weren’t so dazed and exhausted, you might feel complimented.
You were a sight to behold in your current state. Your face covered in saliva, sweat, tears and precum, with a dazed and obedient look on your face. You were a sweet face that he had corrupted, the look of your sweet face in his kingly hand making him pump himself faster.
“Open your mouth and hold your tongue out like the good little whore I know you are.” He panted out his order, obviously close to finishing.
Once again you obeyed, only slower this time in your dazed state. Your gaze continued to stare up at him as his cum landed all over your face and tongue, if you weren’t so out of it you might have relished at his taste. He pumps himself a few more times before he looks down at your gorgeous and sinful state. Smirking, he releases your face and gently pushes your chin up to close your mouth, with a nod he encourages you to swallow.
As you swallow his load, your eyes begin to droop and fall closed. Before they can fully close however, you feel Thranduil lifting you into his arms.
“You took your punishment well. Let’s get you a bath and you can stay here tonight, I’ll have the maids bring you fresh clothes. Perhaps I can give you private training so everyone is more safe in the future.” He smiles down at you with surprising warmth as he carry’s you to his private bathing room.
After seeing your post about the healers, what would happen if Minhyeok visited Paradise Lost (like he previously did with Gehenna)
Do u think Minh and MC become invincible or something?
Thinking of Min stepping on Paradise Lost land… At least there won't be Lucifer's brothers to try to kill him, nor kings who can brag about their relationship with Mc. Moreover, Gamigin would give him a warm welcome, and lecture him on the three unbreakable rules without knowing that Min can ignore all that. Marbas would look at him with excessive suspicion, but without making any dangerous moves because he is a guest of Lucifer. Buer seems like a good demon at first glance, but he's going to think “that one” is the human so dear that he's holding Mc back from staying eternally in Paradise Lost. Here the theme of the visit comes with Lucifer.
For him, it is one thing to invite him, quite another to see how Minhyeok touches and hugs Mc so affectionately. The worst thing Luci could see, would be that even Mc would receive his "friend" with equal or more love. Lucifer is not going to let go of Mc after he learns his lesson, and he is going to hate Min. He don't allow anyone but him to touch her, not even his brothers, and less that human, no matter how close they are to being “a family”, is unacceptable.
He will hiss menacingly at Min to the end, faithfully detesting even the farewell, which will be sooner than the one he had in Gehenna. And Min, on the other hand, seeing an ancient angel, the most beautiful of all God's creation, will feel intimidated, he will think that Lucifer is too hot not to feel even dirty for looking at him that way.
And definitely, Lucifer is going to investigate the information the demons have on Minhyeok, and he is going to join the team of anonymous demons who don't want Mc to leave hell!
And to your second question. I've always thought that Min stopped being human since he died, (I feel that by himself he regenerates, or is more resilient than a normal human), but still, he remains a normal person. So, the win card for Min is Mc herself, because her soul is still bound to 65 demon contracts. Here the point is that it has been implied that demons, like god, and I don't exclude angels, can “lend power”, to others; as Satan gave Min the opportunity in the event, and as God ceded everything to Solomon (this one being human). I think the two make a pretty good combination on their own, if they get to use and learn from their own abilities and advantages.
The short answer is yes, Min and Mc can be invincible if Mc learns to use his power, and Min, once he adapts to the skills Mc has with his contracts, will put up a good fight.
the three aspects of the Hokage office that Anbu Commander Izuna is responsible for:
1: When Minato takes up the hat, he asks if the veil can be removed. The style of the entire outfit is old-fashioned, but the veil is especially annoying. It's got sealing stitched in it, as expected of something owned previously by two Senju who'd come from the era where the clan had still specialized in weaving, but even so...Minato's sure he could replicate the seals in much more concise format, without the need of the veil.
But Kushina pushes back. "It's necessary." She tells him, "Izuna himself demanded it's inclusion.
Minato sighs, but nods along. If it's part of the tradition it's part of the tradition, and ultimately he's still honored to be wearing the thing...even if, upon reflection, the thing it reminds him most of is a uchikatsugi.
He hides a laugh at the idea the Nidaime, famously sharp-worded man that he was, had been wearing a wife's veil, common enough at the time that others would've recognized it as such.
2: Commander Kozo has his eye on Kakashi as a potential successor. It's still early-on, but the boy is obviously talented beyond his peers. More importantly, since the tragic death of his teammates, he's thrown himself into protecting his squads with a fierce tenacity essential for the position; and he's shown himself gifted at earning the respect of his direct followers. Itachi, even more prodigiously gifted then Kakashi, had shown the boy a deference of respect he hadn't afforded to many others.
Because of this, Kozo indulges his hopes, and slips training for the position into Kakashi's more routine tasks. He teaches him about squad selection, walks him through the messy hierarchy of Shinobi, and answers questions most Anbu are not allowed to ask.
"If you're commander, you'll have to give reports directly to the Hokage." Kozo explains. "There's a way to do it. Traditional. Minato tried to put a stop it it, but- well, Hiruzen is well known for preferring the old ways with most things."
Kakashi nods once, but affords Kozo his full attention as he demonstrates the form. He kneels, legs against the cool tile. his hands pressed flat in front of him, and he dips his forehead to touch the cool stone. His back aches- he's getting too old for this nonsense. He hopes Kakashi will take over soon.
"Dogeza?" Kakashi asks, studying the form. Kozo relaxes, slides back to sit more casually on the ground and let his knees take a break.
"That's right. You hold it for the whole report, until the Hokage dismisses you." He wasn't certain if Kakashi, as young as he was, would know such an uncommon bit of etiquette. But the Hatake were an old family, it stood to reason he'd picked it up somehow from his father. "The second Anbu Commander, Uchiha Izuna, put it into practice. He said it was important to maintain the chain of command, to keep the deference by the commander clear."
Kakashi nods again, his serious little face absorbing the information. If he actually gets the position one day, as Kozo hopes he does, he'll likely see through that explanation just as well as every following Anbu Commander had.
3: Tsunade, already well on her way to drunk, offers Kozo the new bottle.
"Godaime-" He tries to refute, and she hushes him, a finger sloppily pressed to his lips. He doesn't allow himself to be swayed; he's seen her pull this move on anyone who tries to stop her from drinking and might be amenable to her persuasions.
"First sip. That's the rule, right?" She taunts. She's unfairly pretty when she's sloshed, all artfully ruffled robes and flushed cheeks. He's well aware he's not her type- she just likes teasing the Anbu. One of the only perks of the job, apparently.
It is the rule. Damned Uchiha Izuna. Kozo takes the bottle, and the smallest sip possible from it. "Not poisoned." He tells her, voice dry. As if a kenjutsu expert will have a better sense on that then the most talented healer in the history of the world. At least Izuna had the excuse of being the poison expert in his day. Tsunade smiles at him, snags the bottle, and chugs the rest.
Her lips rest where his went first. Damn Uchiha Izuna. She swipes her tongue on the rim, meanspirited creature that she is, and he adds Damn all the Senju, too.
Taming the wolf
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cassian x winter warrior
Summary: you’ve been mated to cassian for a while now, but part of you is still tethered to the winter court army. You’re still expected to fulfil your purpose in the winter mountains and keep the beasts away from the heart of the winter court for three of the coldest months of the year.
Your time in the winter mountains however bring back some habits that Cassian thought you tamed months before. Hurt/comfort
[part two][Acotar masterlist]
Tumblr media
Three months in the snowy mountains of your home had stripped away all the work you’d done previously in Velaris.
You couldn't remember how many days you'd been in the forest, the hem of your coat weighed down, clumped with ice. For you the highest region of the woods and the open planes of rugged mountains were your home. Far from the heart of the court and away from everyone you knew.
This was your purpose, your birthright. A wolf protecting the lands.
The winter court blessed the spirits of the snow. Parents planning when to give birth, choosing more favourable spirits so that their child could draw upon a specific energy.
You however were the youngest sister, born to fill a role most parents didn’t want to bring a child into. Veyna your eldest sister was born the year of the dragon, the highest of honours and she frequently made you aware of her status, war strategist. Senna your other sister was born the year of the phoenix and she went on to be a healer, kindest person you knew.
The warriors in the mountains, kept to themselves and when they did have a child they'd either be the year of the wolf or the bear. Babes died in the harsh conditions, forcing your parents to have to you.
Growing up your mother would visit you in the mountains, telling you to feed the wolf within. It didn't matter what fuelled the spirit or the energy, she encouraged you to strengthen the bond through whatever means necessary. So you fed into the fear they instilled in you as a child and the anger when they tried to tame you as you got older.
They looked at you as an animal, someone to unleash on the creatures threatening their court and then they punished you for not being able to control it. The bite remained, you snapped at every hand that tried to reach for you. Not knowing if they wanted the wolf or the warrior.
Cassian was different though, he wasn't afraid to meet the wolf and the warrior. Knew that you were one and both, that at times there was a need for each one. He didn't make you feel ashamed to bare your teeth.
You wondered how long it'd be till you saw your mate.
The cold seeped into your bones, a heaviness dragging your body to the edge of the forest. You legs ached as you trudged through the deep snow, wind nipping at your cheeks the moment you met the open planes of the mountains.
Your breath faltered as you stared at the figure across the frozen lake. Part of you felt like you were meeting him for the first time again, the hunting wolf and the lord of bloodshed. He moved with ease over the ice, long wavy hair dancing behind him in the morning breeze.
His calloused hands framed your face, thumb smoothing over your cheek and that's when you noticed the grey stain transferring to his palm. The coppery scent telling you it was blood, the wolf's vision still remaining. Your mind still on the hunt, ears twitching for movement beyond what you know.
A flock of crows darted from the icy peaks, their screeches increasing the beat of your heart, blood pumping in your ears. Your head snapped to the right, gaze locked on the cave expecting something to appear.
"Hey," Cassian's palm patted your cheek, "it's done." He pried the dagger from your grasp, wiping the dirt on his trousers and slipping it back into the pocket of your bag.
"What are you doing here?" Your voice a hoarse whisper, Cassian's brow furrowed as he took your gloved hand in his. "You're early, I still have a few days."
You followed him down the narrow pebbled slope, his hand holding onto yours like you were about to bolt at any given moment. He didn't speak, the warmth of his touch enough to keep you going till you reached your hut.
It wasn't much, but it was your home before you considered him one. You shouldered the door open, the fire lighting the open living place. Cassian knelt down in front of you and started to unlace your frozen boots, you stepped out of them shaking the ice from your thick socks.
"I take it you heard about my outburst then, is that why you're so early?" You leant against the wall, eye's fluttering shut for a moment to try and shake the wolf. It still stirred, vision perfect but it lacked the colour of your fae sight. Your back still ached from the lashings you received from lashing out.
Cassian rose from the floor, he shook his head. "You've been running around the forest for days, we were supposed to leave for winter solstice yesterday." He didn't glance at you, his hands hovering over the stain matting your white fur coat, inner fabric torn and gaping over your right shoulder.
The adrenaline coursing through you started to wither, the three gashes on your shoulder burning as Cassian slipped your coat down your arms. It fell to the floor like a dead weight, the metallic tang of blood clinging to your teeth.
You stumbled through to the kitchen, flinging your menders bag on the worn dining table. "I killed four nagas," you snarled, collapsing in the chair and delving through the scraps of bandages in your medical kit. "Forgive me for being late."
"I've been running through the damn mountains trying to find you, I thought you dead," he snapped, he rubbed his bloodshot eyes. The dark rims beneath them deepening.
"And I had to hunt," you seethed, a wave of nausea hitting you as you swayed in your seat. The bandage in your grasp too short to cover the wounds on your shoulder, so you flung it across the table.
Cassian pulled out the chair beside you, wings tucked in and hands moving slowly to the mender bag. "I know," he said ,catching your cold hands in his. "I know what they make you do." His voice soft and low, touch feathery light as he wiped the blood from your hairline.
You hadn't even noticed him filling the bucket with warm water or wringing a washcloth before it was pressed to your face. You leant in to him, savouring the stinging heat against your scraped skin.
"You can't," you whispered, pushing him away from you. Taking a shaky breath, you stole the wash cloth from him and dragged it down the three slashes scored into your shoulder. You tried to bite back the groan, but the blinding pain seared through to your back. Another reminder of aches from days before.
Cassian shushed you, he helped you peel off your shirt trying not to pull too hard where it stuck to your dried wounds. "I don't follow the rules of your mountains, my mate is not going to fend for herself when I am here to take care of them." He dipped the cloth back into the water and dabbed your shoulder, your eyes following his every movement.
There had been many arguments where you'd refused his help in the past, raised to fend for yourself and tend to your own wounds that you didn't understand his need to heal you. It wasn't till you saw his own pain that you understood the agony of not being able to help. You tried your best to be more accepting when he offered you care, but there were still somethings you were trying to work on.
This being one of them, allowing him to tend to your wounds. No matter how many times you protested, he'd got through to you and spoke you through it all. His calm voice speaking of the last three months, how he missed you and what had happened in your absence. Stories of the inner circle and that one mission he thought would never end.
"If we go home tomorrow, we'll still get a day to shop for solstice gifts," he said, smile tugging his lips. He rambled on about the gifts he'd already got, anything to fill silence and distract you from the surge of pain crawling through you.
You, however were half numb and tired, but you kept your gaze on him. The warmth of his bronzed skin, the stray strands of hair falling into his face as his head dipped to cut the bandages in his lap. The flicker of flames reflecting in his hazel eyes.
"Winter warrior, don't wander," he said, cupping your face in his hands. You don't know how he managed to keep you grounded, but the weight of his touch drew you back to the room. Nose nudging yours and you hummed, leaning in to press your lips to his.
"There you are," he said, his forehead resting against yours.
Colour bled back into your vision, jaw aching as you came back to yourself. You glanced to the red tinged water in the bucket, the blood matting your fur coat on the floor still. "I'm sorry."
"There is nothing you need to apologise for," Cassian shook his head, lips pecking the cut on your hairline. He combed his fingers through your hair, untwisting what was left of the braid you'd styled days ago.
Cassian repacked your menders bag, rolling up the bandages and wrapping the small clinking bottles in a cloth. He didn't say much else, his gaze flitting back and forth to you and the blood stained coat still discarded by the door.
"You were worried, I'm sorry," you said, his back to you as he rinsed blood soaked cloth in the sink.
He turned to face you, leaning against the kitchen counters. "I just wish I were here sooner, but you warned me not to." You felt the pang of pain shoot through your chest, his worries pulling on the bond between you.
"This court, I do not want you to see what it makes me do." You'd never told him that you were scared to unleash the wolf within whilst you were with him. Afraid to lash out at him, like you had days ago at your sister. He'd seen your wolf plenty, but he'd never witnessed the way you hunted and how you struggled to come back down from it.
You heard the stomp of his heavy boots, gaze following his shadow as it loomed over you. He crouched in front of you, finger lifting your chin. "I know what they make you do," his voice a soft whisper, eyes glassy but he did not look away. "You do not need to hide parts of yourself from me, your spirit is just as important as the rest of you."
Spirit, the part of you homing the wolf. You nodded, tears trailing down your cheeks. He had a strange knack of calming you, coaxing you back to the present. Your wolf normally met with loud booming voices and heavy hands. The only way the court had taught you to tame the wolf.
He wiped the tears from your face, sitting back in the chair beside you and placing his hands on your knees. "Rest, my love. We will go home in the morning."
Promp: "Why do you think that you need to fix me? Who told you I was broken?"
Summary: You discover Loki's secret
Note: TBH i've been wanting to try a Vampire Loki one shot..
"Why do you think that you need to fix me? Who told you I was broken?"
His voice was barely a whisper, almost as if he were right beside you when you clearly had your gaze on him from across a healing table.
Your eyes flicked up at him, having finished letting your minor cut heal under the magical glow before drawing your hand away from his.
His fingers gave a very small resistance, as if not wishing to let you go just yet as your fingers slid from his, both your finger tips faintly hesitating before your arm returned to your side again. Your other hand gripped your servants gown, your nails reminding you just how tight you had it clutched from your nervousness where you finally released the fabric.
That's all you were weren't you.. servant. But to prince Loki, you were more than that..
A servant and a prince. In his eyes you were nothing more than a goddess, as he's often reminded you. he often found excuses to be able to run into you, to have you on call for mere tasks that you would bring yourself to him as well. And you went willingly. You always did. There was something.. about it, something different.. and with each passing day as your bond grew, you knew there was something he just wasn't admitting. The funny thing was, his feelings were clear and he's spoken of them and his intentions.. but what he hid was deeper than that.. something that grew fear in your chest by the mere thought of daring to ask.
The opportunity always presented itself to ask what exactly he hid but words never left your mouth. How could you? you both have shared your hearts, have shared a bed, and he new your every soul and desire as if it were apart of him. was this it?
The way he gazed at you now had your eyes captive in his and you could feel your heart race as you drew in a breath to not have your prince wait any longer. ''it would seem you are the one always having to fix me..'' you often a light joke, your smile disappearing before you could even fully raise in as he slowly drew his hand off the table and he straightened to his full height. Even with the relationship you both secretly had, the prince never failed to remind you just how different your positions were, making your eyes drop respectfully.
''answer pet..'' he whispered.
''.. I don't wish to fix you Loki.. and I don't think you are broken..'' you answer with your voice just as quiet as his. Your eyes slowly raise to meet his own, seeing how he gazed upon you in question as you boldly spoke his name. ''..i can.. sense that you have been secretly struggling with something for a long time..'' you spoke, your head tilting up ever so slightly to gaze up at him and felt yourself take a breath. ''something to long..''
Loki's eyes roamed over you, his body stiffening as if you were on to him yet his expression never gave you an answer about what he was really thinking. He never did. His words were always answer but you've often had to find the right questions. That is, when he wasn't using seduction to have you forget what you wished to ask in the first place.
Your eyes glanced down where your cut had previously been, a reminder of a small pruning incident with the roses just before he made his presence known in the garden not long ago. He was always there wasn't he.. whenever you got hurt. Whenever you were bleeding..
Your eyes slowly moved up to his, the warm yellow glow of the healers table illuminating his eyes. Those eyes.. they always seemed different until you would begin questioning their color, just as they were now. Back to blue. But not before..
Your steps moved you before you could even register what was happening, slowly moving yourself around the table as you hold his gaze in your own now with a small kindling of confidence that rose in your chest. Your hand slid and followed along the table's edge as you brought yourself around and stopped before him, his head dipping down ever so slightly to look at you with careful breaths rising his chest.
''...you're starving aren't you..''
There was a chill in the air so it seemed, your one, simple statement being enough to draw silence between the two of you which seemed to feel like forever as he wordlessly parted his lips in question.
''i.. pet- i.. what are you-'' for once in your entire life, the prince struggled for words before you.
You both knew.
''it's okay Loki.. you're not broken.. you don't need to be fixed.. you're just hungry..'' your words were a whisper, where you almost couldn't even hear yourself if you hadn't seen the prince's reactions.
Ever so slightly he would take slow steps back as you slowly stalked forward, your eyes never leaving each other's even once as his back reached the wall with still that slight stocked expression that one would miss if they weren't gazing upon him intently.
''I've know for a long time my prince.. and it's okay.. this secret will be unspoken and safe with me..'' you said carefully, seeing how his eyes even questioned your loyalty but you kept your expression serious. He was the god of lies after all, and knew he saw truth in your words. Your shoes stopped just before his, tilting your head up and to the side as you looked at him.
''I love you Loki. It's okay..'' you breathed, love in your eyes as your hand slowly rose up and brushed your hair to one side, exposing your neck to him.
Right in that moment, time seemed to stop. His breath held, his eyes widen and his body stiffened. Those eyes were no longer blue anymore.. but took on the same color as the very blood that had left your hand not to long ago. His hands shook, restraint and control fighting him as he seemed to be losing and coming undone, something Loki has always been skilled at maintaining. Yet not tonight. Not right now.
And he snapped.
His slender fingers wrap around your wrist, using one swift motion to turn you both where your back now is pressed against the wall with the god before you looming dangerously close.
''you're a clever girl, that you are..'' he whispered, his voice almost reminding you of a snake and could feel the tip of his nose rub against your neck as his hand grips your jaw to keep your head tilted to the side. His thumb runs against your bottom lip while you hear him inhale your scent and could see a smile tug at the corner of his mouth. ''I am unsure of how you figured it out love,.. perhaps I was careless around you.. as one does when they are in love.'' His eyes flick to yours. ''their walls come down.''
A knee moved itself between your legs, applying just enough pressure as he rubbed against your sensitive area; your hand gripping his wrist as you tried not to whimper while the other rested against his chest. You always felt small like this- granted your heights were drastically different anyway, but he used this to his advantage.. and absolutely relished in it.
''I know I can trust you love, and that you are telling the truth.. but you should not have offered me this..'' he sighed, your eyes trained on him but didn't move, your pleasure from his grinding knee distracting you as you tried focusing on his words.
''I care for you Loki, I wanted too..''
You bite your lip as you held back a moan, feeling the flat of his tongue slowly drag across the crook of your neck, making your shiver and your fingers tighten.
''and that is why I love you Y/N.. you know of the danger, of the risks and yet you still place myself before your own desires and needs. Truly a treasure to be kept sacred.. which is why I will do my upmost best, darling, to not inflict pain upon you. at least.. not in this way..'' he promised, his red eyes meeting your own to ensure of you the truth behind his words before he inhaled, his eyes closing and his brows furrowed in concentration.
You knew what he was, you knew what to expect, yet your body still reacted once his eyes reopened and his lips parted slightly. His eyes didn't dare meet yours, almost as if he didn't wish to see your possible reaction of fear as your eyes left his lust filled ones to rest upon his slightly long fangs that promised would pierce without much force. Your body tensed and your eyes widened as he kept his eyes trained on your neck and you felt his groin grow hard as he moved his knee away to move even closer to you, grinding himself against you as his hand left your wrist to lace his fingers with yours and kept you pinned all the same.
There was slight fear, more anxiousness of the unknown but you made no move to stop him, to fight him, and as if sensing your worry almost seemed to drive him more as he gave your neck a kiss before you squeezed your eyes shut.
Your whole body seemed to jump as pain shot through your body, almost feeling like you had gotten stabbed by a dagger or shocked with electricity.. perhaps both as you felt his teeth pierce your skin deep before pulling away slightly. Your fingers gripped his shoulder, holding on as if he were to save you although he was your attacker. Just your reaction alone, and perhaps by now to new smell of blood was enough to cause Loki to moan against your skin, pressing himself against you as if he had no intention on letting you go.
The next thing you felt was his lips against your wound, the pain still stinging as you tried to move your head but his hand still on your jaw prevented you from doing so, wanting to remain in his access to your neck while he began to suck at you.
It was like a sort of tingling, it felt like you were being given a hickey but with a stronger suction. Much stronger. It was a strange feeling, feeling your blood leave your body and one could almost miss it if they weren't paying close attention. You felt Loki's body relax a little, knowing his hunger was being satisfied as he drank from you. it was almost explicit, exotic in the strange world of sexual pleasure where your fear seemed to be subsiding and your eyes closed, resting your head back as your lips parted. Your attention switched once he began grinding himself against you again, causing you to shiver as your pleasure began to build.
''Loki...'' you breathed in pleasure and reopened your eyes with a small smile, yet that smile only lasted for so long before you began seeing your vison grow fuzzy.
Blood loss will do that.
Your body began to tense, panic seemed to set in as he seemed to have no intention of stopped and you knew the risk if you lost to much blood- or all. He always paid attention to all your reactions and responses- it was quite frankly his favorite part yet he didn't seem to be letting up as you began squirming, feeling panic from how your vison danced and your strength growing weak- to pleasure as he seemed to keep grinding himself against you.
''L-Loki-'' you whimper, your fingers tightening on his shoulders and your other hand trying to pull out of his. ''P-Please..''
A yelp left your lips as you felt him puncture you once more just below your shoulder, his hand leaving your jaw to pin you by your free shoulder and felt him hum against you as he began drinking again. You felt warm liquid rolling down against your skin by your neck as your body tensed and your lips parted. Words never came as he was quick to swipe the straying blood with his tongue before continuing to drink and you felt his body shiver in pleasure.
Your eyes slowly closed as your body began growing rapidly weak and cold and your grip loosened. Knowing he was happy and alive, sating his torturous hunger was enough to at least give a small smile on your lips before everything went black.
~
Cold, slender fingers slowly stroked your cheek as you reopened your eyes again. Your memory was fuzzy but you knew you had passed out for quite awhile. Your vision met a warm, yellow light, indicating you were laying upon the healers table and you found your body feeling normal.
Moving your head to the side to see who was caressing your cheek, your eyes met the prince's blue ones and a small smile of relief was on his lips as he kneeled down on his knee to be more at your level.
''darling.. I'm glad you are well..'' he said, guilt behind his voice as his eyes moved over your body as if the healing missed anything before moving back to your own, seeing how you seemed relaxed and honestly.. smiling.
''I am well Loki, and am glad you could say the same.. you're looking much better'' you admit quietly, your hand raising up to hold his hand and he opted for it as he stopped stroking your cheek.
''I shall be forever grateful my lady..'' he gently teased as gazed off slightly, his smile fading a bit. ''..it's to dangerous to do it again.. you passed out for some time''
''that's what the table is for Loki- I'll be fine-''
''not with me darling.. I found myself unable to pull away, to have self-control.. I couldn't stop. I didn't want to- I didn't care.. you are lucky you woke up..'' he said sadly, his eyes searching yours as you slowly brought yourself to sit up.
Despite your usual shy state and the constant reminder of your position, this was between lovers. So you brought your hand up too his cheek without hesitation in a gentle stroke, just as he had to yours to wake you up; feeling him lean into your hand as he closed his eyes with shame.
''love is about sacrifice.. if you fought yourself at the door of death Loki, I'd gladly throw myself in replace if it meant saving you. I'll do it again if I find yourself looking the way you had.'' You promised, seeing how he opened your eyes as if he had to search for any sort of lie, shocked as you never hesitated to show how much you felt about him as he brought his hand up to rest against yours.
''I swear by it Y/N.. for you, I will not rest until I have brought myself into a state of self-control.. I will not lose you for the sake of sating myself of the temptation of blood..''
Your eyes gazed upon his, how your smile inspired his own as you brought your arms around his neck to pull him closer. His arms didn't hesitate to wrap around you as well as you both held each other and the great weight of his secret could be felt lifting from his shoulders as he buried his face into your neck with his body fully relaxing. You stroked his hair, just how he liked as you rested your chin against his shoulder and the strong feeling of boldness filled your chest. At the same time, your cheeks reddened at the very thought and darkened once the words left your lips.
''..are you hungry for something else?'' you asked, maybe a bit to seductively as he slowly pulled away from you, his eyes flicking down at your lower self with a smirk spreading over his lips as he gazed back into your eyes.
''..quite starving my darling.''
you were precious. being the youngest of mo’at and eytukan, you always wanted to make your parents smile. rather it be helping mother with in the healers tent, or helping father from the ikrans, you were whatever they needed, and the people appreciated the assistance.
when hometree was destroyed and neytiri chose the dreamwalker jakesully, you stood by your mother, continuing to offer her help where she needed.
years later, when the people moved up to high camp with jakesully’s human friends, you were given more free time than you had previously. you opted for flies with your ikran pu’ti whenever you had the chance, not returning until just before eclipse. or you’d take walks, feeling the happiness in the beautiful lush as you felt eywa’s embrace.
you skipped across the thick branches of the trees, reciting your songcord as you went.
snap.
your ears twitched as you quieted, dropping low against the branch as you looked for what made the sound.
it was a na’vi..no.. another dreamwalker. you scowled silently, mumbling a soft ‘vrrtep’ - demon, under your breath. yet, no matter how much you detested the humans, you couldn’t take your eyes away from the false na’vi. the imposter was tall.. wearing strange clothes and one of those things jake calls a gun. as your eyes trailed upwards, your breath stopped. he was gorgeous..much prettier than any of the na’vi you’ve seen before. you tilted your head towards your extended foot, silently questioning how he was so pretty.
the man you dubbed sayrìp - handsome, pressed his large hand to his neck, mumbling the alien language before taking a scan of his surroundings before retreating.
letting out a breath you never knew you were holding, you quietly scampered away.
Tumblr media
you didn’t see sayrìp for a while, but you couldn’t get him out of your head. his scent, his face, his voice.. you couldn’t get him to leave your thoughts.
“ there you are, sister.. ” you turned your head, looking at you sister, a gentle smile gracing your face.
“ neytiri, hi! ” you replied, standing to allow your sister to wrap you in a hug,
“ you look troubled..what is it? ” you tilted your head, had you really been moping because you haven’t seen your favorite demon in a week? you shook your head, blaming your mood on not going out to the forest in a while.
“ hm, well, if you are not busy until eclipse, mother has said it is okay for you to go. ” your ears perked up, the muscles above your eyes lifting.
“ really? ” you hugged your sister again, not waiting for confirmation before you called your ikran, running deep into the woods.
there he was, he was different, he felt different.. his pants were shorter, the coverings he wore on his feet were gone and he-
“ i know y’re here. ” your thoughts halted instantly, you looked down at the demon, expression filled with shock and a hint of confusion.
“ why d’nt you c’mon out, hm? ” you glanced around, as if you were searching your brain for the translations to the words he said. eyes narrowed, you made your way down the tree, approaching him from behind with your head low, eyes scanning him. sayrìp turned quickly, you jumped back, unsheathing your blade and holding it defensively.
“ woah-ho easy there cupcake, m’not gonna hurt ya. ” sayrìp held his hands up non-threateningly. you paused, blinking as you translated. you lowered the knife, but you didn’t put it away. you stepped closer to the man, steps slow and careful as you circled him as if you were checking what he was. unbeknownst to him, you were just checking him out from a closer radius.
“ y’like what’cha see? ” maybe he did know. you put your knife away slowly, still eyeing him skeptically.
“ why are you here? ” you hiss, speaking english to sayrìp. the man smirked,
“ why did you not kill me. ” you bit back at him, avoiding answering his question. the man shifted on his heels, his golden eyes taking in your form. it was only then that you realized how fast your heart was beating. the man lifted his arms, you didn’t see what he was doing before you were backing up, drawing your blade again.
“ ‘m just putting this down.. we can talk then. ” you watch him carefully as he strips himself of the weapon, when what he said turned out to be true, you relaxed, your tail no longer swaying cautiously, but rather with curiosity. the man lifts his arms out, displaying he is not a threat. slowly, you stepped towards him, your eyes trailing up his arm to look at the patch of black on his shoulder. you kept looking, trying to tip toe to see over his shoulder. he turned his head to you,
“ y’wanna sit? ” a smirk tugged at the corner of his lip, his fangs showing. you nodded once, translating still as hard with the strange way he speaks. the man sits, criss crossed in front of you, allowing you room to do the same. you settled, but you didn’t sit all the way, kneeling in front of him. heart pounding in your ears, you leaned closer to his face. the pattern of the stripes on his cheek, his tanhí starting to shine, the weird hair on his forehead.. you outstretched your first finger, curling the other two into your palm, poking at it. he shuts an eye,
“ peu- w- what is this. ” you ask him in english. he chuckles, looking at you with a weird look, your forehead creases and you pull away from him slightly.
“ my.. eyebrow..? ” you repeat the word back to him,
“ eye-brow.. what is it for? ” you tilted your head and shifted to across him, you didn’t pay attention to his response when you poked at his ear, eyes widening. you lifted your other hand to hold at one of your ears, double checking to see if your thought was right.
“ what’s y’r name? ”
“ your ears is short. why. ” you didn’t hear his question, your attention still on his ears, he raises his shoulders. you blinked at him, waiting for his response. he shook his head, waving his hand, which you grabbed onto.
“ y’r name, what is it? ” you pulled at his fourth finger,
“ yn. ” you said, accepting that his fourth finger is just like jake’s. you dropped his hand, it landing in his lap with a thud.
“ miles. ” your forehead creased as you took a shot at pronouncing it,
“ m- my-less.. ” he coughed, turning away from you to cover his mouth as he laughed. “ mi-less. ” he cleared. his throat before looking back at you,
“ my ” you lowered your head as you repeated,
“ my ”
“ ulls. ” you turned your head in confusion, but repeated anyways,
“ ulls. ” he lifted his hands and pushed them together.
“ miles. ” you both said in unison.
“ there y’go pumpkin! ” he smiled brightly, hand coming to squeeze your cheeks. your would have matched his if your cheeks weren’t smushed. you didn’t realize how close you were to him until you felt his breath on your nose. it twitched, you looked up at his eyes, they were slightly narrowed, taking in your face. your breathing was slow when it should have been fast, your mind was fuzzy when it should have been clear, you were leaning in when you should have been pulling away.
you trusted him.
you both were dangerously close..breaths tangling a forbidden dance, one that should never be.. so why did it feel so right? his lips were on yours, you kissed him back. a large four fingered hand goes to the back of your head, deepening the kiss and not giving you a moment to thing before his other hand went around your waist.
you pulled way, heat racing and breathing fast. it was nearly eclipse..you didn’t have much time before it was here. you pulled away from him fully, rising to your feet. he stood with you, utterly confused.
“ eclipse.. bye. ” you stepped away and called out to your ikran. turning back to him, you spoke again. “ tomorrow? ” he was still confused, but he agreed. you mounted pu’ti and flew off towards the village.
when you dismounted your ikran, kiri greeted you first with a,
“ mom has been looking for you ” your ears flattened against your head as you realized you weren’t as fast as you thought you were. you gave pu’ti a gentle rub to his snout before following behind kiri.
“ you smell weird. ” your head snapped to your niece, eyes widening. sayrìp..that skxawng. your tail flicked anxiously as you heard neyriti’s voice in conversation with jake. you took a breath before making yourself known,
“ yn! eywa, where have you been?! ” you lower your head and wince, mumbling a soft apology, ears disappearing against your hair. “ and why do you smell.. ” your eyes widened and you sucked in a quick breath, “ weird? ” you slightly relaxed, finally looking up at your sister to make some excuse you found something and was checking it out. it wasn’t a lie, just not the full truth.. if neytiri noticed, she didn’t make it known to you, but jake did. his eyes were narrowed at you, thinking - like he knew exactly what you were doing. you excused yourself and exited their abode, finally being able to breathe.
on your sleeping mat that night, you couldn’t help your mind running right back to miles.. he was so large, so pretty..but he was demon.. your mother, y- your sister would fall over dead before they ever approved such a union.. but why did it feel like you belonged beside him, like eywa herself has pushed you two together.
the day you promised to meet miles at the same spot,you were growing antsy by the end of. your duties, moving much faster than you normally move. you were excited, but for good measure, you groomed the ikrans before taking off on your own.
when you made it to the clearing, you saw him already waiting. when he saw you, he discarded his gun, setting it in the dirt once again. he greeted you, lowering his head and tapping two fingers to his forehead before extending them to you,
“ oel nati kameie, yn ” your eyes widened in surprise, but you repeated the gesture,
“ oel ngaati kameie, miles. ” you giggled, “ you said it wrong. ” his eye-brows pulled together in confusion,
“ ngaati, no nati. ” you said, taking a seat beside him.
it was nice with miles, sure the obvious language barrier was a thing, but you two made due. day after day, you taught miles something and he taught you something. you did your best to keep the budding relationship under wraps until the day you couldn’t - the day you didn’t return home after eclipse, the day that you and miles chose each other.
“ tsaheylu. the bond, it joins creatures and mated pairs. ” you watched as he pulled his kuru - neutral queue, from behind him and held it in front of yours. his eyes looked into yours, waiting for your next move. you looked back, eyes not leaving his as you pressed your tendrils closer, his own pulling yours closer almost impatiently. your eyes. closed as a shiver ran up your spine, knocking your breathing off it’s rhythmic pace. you didn’t leave miles’ arms that night. he was your safe place, your home, your mate.
Tumblr media
you were beyond anxious when you returned to the village, you couldn’t face anyone right now, you had to align your thoughts.
“ yn! ” you flinched before turning around to see jake. with your heart pounding in your chest, you greeted the olo’eyktan, but before you could ask him what he wanted, he told you, “ you should have stopped when neytiri asked you why you smelled funny. ” your breathing was shaky as you tried to think of a response, an excuse - anything.
“ he’s an outsider yn! you think i wouldn’t know his scent? ” you stopped trying to reply, hanging your head low. you were the youngest of mo’at and eytukan.. you always did what was best for the people..yet, the one time you try to do what is the best for you, you get in trouble. when you finally pulled yourself out of your head, jake’s four fingered hand was around your bicep, pulling you to the tent he shared with his family.
“ kids, excuse us. ” neteyam and kiri exchanged a look to each other and lo’ak looked at you, raising his eye-brows in confusion. with indistinguishable expressions, they left, leaving. you, jake and neytiri in the tent.
“ ma jake, what is happening? ” you didn’t know when jake released your shoulder, but he was standing near neytiri now.
“ yn here has something to tell us. ” your heart stopped and your blood ran cold. tell my sister? neytiri turned to you, ears perked and her tail low.
“ yn? ” you sucked in a breath, taking a step backwards to be out of her immediate reach.
“ i..i met a man..a demon. ” neytiri hissed at the thought, and you felt the tears already pooling, threatening to make you blind. “ we’re bonded before eywa.. ”
jake wasn’t thinking that. the colonel miles quaritch.
“ quaritch? you’re mated with quaritch? of all the talented warriors in the clan, you choose the asshole who destroyed home tree?! ” jake cursed, neytiri was struggling to control her tongue, her eyes narrowed on your frame. she closed her eyes, letting out a breath - a feeble attempt to calm herself - before speaking,
“ yn- ” you cut her off, immediately defending your mate,
“ he’s not bad! he’s not what you think he is.. he- we- he has never harmed me.. he is different that that man! ” you huff,
“ why do you think so? ” neytiri asked, her ears slowly lowering. she was willing to see it through your eyes.
“ he’s different..he has the human memories, but not the human feelings.. he. does not want to hurt the people.. i saw it all through tsaheylu.. eywa has chosen him for me. ” you paused, looking back at your older siblings. “ please..he is not bad. ” you watched them debate with each other. with a locked jaw and a sigh, jake nodded at neytiri.
“ you must teach him like i did. you must tell mother. you must be careful, yn. ” your shoulders dropped the tension in the room, tears finally spilling over as you threw yourself into your sister’s arms.
“ thank you, tsmuke.. ” sister. you purred.
if you could get your sister’s approval, there was no reason why you couldn’t get your mother’s. you mumbled a thank you to the great mother. for these last few moons will shape the rest of your life to come.
