Simple enough rules, just two things. That was all she had to do. Stay between the two lines that they'd chalked across her backyard— the space was about two or three feet, so that wasn't a struggle— and don't get let her girlfriend hit her.

"Uh, hit me with what?"

Weiss rolled her eyes and reached into her white duffel. "The épée, dumbass," she said obviously, pulling out one of the skinny swords with a ball for its tip. One of her densely-meshed fencing masks followed after, flying from her hand and tumbling between Ruby's, who nearly fumbled it to the grass before she collected herself. She slipped it over her head and held her hands out.

"Hey, where's your helmet?" Ruby asked after a second.

Weiss shrugged. "Don't need one."

"You're that cocky?"

"Ha!" the duelist barked, shaking her head imperiously. "No, not at all."

"Then where's your mask? And my épée?"

Weiss snapped her fingers. "Bingo!"

"Huh?"

"Ruby, baby, sweetie, my perfect, beautiful, sexy-hot, stupid, dumb idiot darling dumbass," Weiss cooed, tipping her hips left and right in the way she did when she was trying to get Ruby flustered (which always worked, including now). "You are not fencing. You've got two left feet."

Ruby took the mask off to glare down at the shorter girl, her lips curled into a warning scowl. "Weiss..."

"I mean really! You expect me, your perfect and incredible girlfriend, to not mock you? You, my own sweet, stupid girlfriend, my own heart which couldn't possibly rebut the skills of my swordsmanship?"

She knew what she was doing. Ruby growled, "Babe..."

Weiss affected perfect, innocent ignorance. She continued to declare, "Oh, it's not your fault your blood is so bereft of talent and skill, so absent of mine ethereal beauty, my siren-song of being! What's a poor thing like you to do? Really?"

"And you are so, so stupid and so, so inferior that it'd just be wrong to put such a gentlemanly tool in your rough, mannish palms!" Weiss sauntered closer, raising one of Ruby's hands to display its calloused interior. She tutted. "It simply isn't done, darling. It isn't done."

Ruby stared, her grey eyes dead. "Are you done?"

Weiss grinned up at her, knowing and confident. "Did I mention you're basically my trophy wife?"

"Your trophy wife."

"Because you're pretty. More or less, though a bit... homely. Maybe more of a housewife."

"Oh very, like you belong in the home. Cooking and cleaning and such."

Ruby blinked, unimpressed, and grabbed the épée around its dull blade with one hand, her other hand shooting up to clutch Weiss' wrist. She squeezed the latter, and the fencer was smart enough to drop the sword before Ruby could apply any real force. She let the épée fall and wrapped Weiss' waist in her arms, lifting her bodily so bring them both to the ground. Ruby landed mostly on her own side so she didn't hurt the smaller girl, then twisted around her back to pin Weiss' captured wrist between her own sharp shoulder blades, her other arm going around Weiss' pale neck and fitting the trachea into the crook of her elbow.

"Tap," Ruby commanded, wrapping her legs around Weiss' waist to finish her hold.

Weiss struggled, her free arm flapping uselessly. "Never!" she whined.

Ruby flexed her bicep.

Weiss stiffened and started pawing at her girlfriend's chokehold. "Harder mommy," she squeaked thinly.

"Jesus fuck, dude."

"Jesus won't save you!"

Ruby wrenched the girl's wrist up, just a tiny bit, barely enough to—

I had the opportunity to borrow a historian's rare book on 14th century bohemian clothing after he heavily criticized the last game I had a big hand in, Rhythm of Triverz, for period inaccuracies. That gave me a convenient ceiling for the most advanced gowns and armour you could expect in the region at the time. Resources on this are extant online but many don't cite their sources and most good ones are maintained on individual german historians' websites, so I need to do more research on this in general, but here are my basic rules for designing their clothes:

Everyone wears long gowns. Hose were pretty rare in this period. Women might have slightly longer dresses

Everyone wears a plain "shift," a garment that's worn under the main article of clothing. This is the one that gets washed

Garments, even rich ones, are unicolour. Mixed fabrics and colours appear later.

There's very little embroidery or detailwork on regular clothing

A garment will be worn with a belt, which might be longer the higher a person's status, and a pouch carrying an eating knife and other personal items

Most people will wear a head covering. Married women will always cover their hair outdoors, other women might do so too, and all women and girls cover their hair in church. Most common hats should be bundhauben or gugel.

A garment can be worn with a contrasting cloak (blue/red is a common one)

Jewellery is occasionally ok, but no piercings (?)

Shoes as we know them are more 14th/15 century; no big boots. Most shoes will be more like pointed leather socks or for ladies silk slippers. Poor people might wear wooden clogs.

No or very few fancy cuts. Later on you see tunics and gugel with with triangular or even fancier hems; This possibly exists very rarely in a limited capacity on things like a noblewoman's 'Kruseler' veil at this time, but that's probably it.

No black. No one depicted in this comic would be rich enough to waste money on black dye. Nuns and so on wear undyed or brown wool.

Military clothing is more "primitive" than might be expected. Not really any fancy visor helmets or big articulated suits of armour yet, most men-at-arms and even knights wear a mail shirt and a surcoat

As I understand, and I'm more than happy to be corrected on any of this, this applies almost universally. Peasants working in the field will wear dyed colourful garments, not plain rags. If it's hot, you don't take the outer garment off, you tuck the front hem of it in your belt to expose the shift. Masons will climb ladders and haul stone in this stuff. Some labourers or craftspeople will wear an apron and other specialized clothing like a toolbelt, too.

Note how Vesna wears a plain linen shift under her nicer yellow dress. I usually draw her with the sleeves all the way at the wrist, which would be the appropriate way to wear them, but she has it folded back here to make the composition nicer.

I love Revy and Rock as a ship because literally everyone in the damn city thinks they're fucking. The bar owner they are regulars at thinks they're fucking, the nuns think they're fucking, the strippers think they're fucking, the women that try to mess with Rock think they're fucking, the Russian Mafia and the Chinese Triad think they're fucking, the mini maid with the knife shoe thinks they're fucking. Since my current comic (Dracula's Guest) is set in the 1890s I couldn't help thinking up an 1890s AU for my Search for Quintessence characters!

So the AU is set in 1890s London

Willow- recently moved from Peru to UK and doesn't really like it here. His family were meant to move to his mum's home in Stockholm but ended up in London (idk how just roll with it) and put off leaving. He works as a gardener but does amateur boxing in his free time - he can fight alright and its extra income! That makes him sound tough but he's honestly a good boy who is just trying to get by.

Assana- shy young girl who's hoping to get into the London School of Medicine for Women. She grew up living along the coast in Whitby (her family are first gen norwegian immigrants) but she moved to London to study. I put her in a classic Victorian sailor outfit since she grew up by the beach!

Orolin- Honestly, I just wanted to draw Orolin as a newspaper boy lol. I think she'd kill that role. But in all seriousness, she's probably be aiming to work as a gardener like Willow! I envision them as neighbours in this AU

Aine- Orthodox Tewahedo nun on a trip to the London with her mother. She's pretty reserved but she's been in the convent since she was small so she's excited to get the chance to travel!

Illuna- French girl who works as a maid for a very rich family - She was employed by them back in Paris but came alongside a lot of the other staff when they moved to London. She loves glamour and loves perusing the latest Parisian fashion magazines that her mistress has shipped in

Ember- rich girl who is the daughter of a politician, often accompanying him on diplomatic visits. She's very sporty so she's almost perpetually in a cycling suit!

^ pretty clearly a euphemism for sex work, imo. there's a whole bit in the episode about amy using one of her work outfits to trick the doctor into thinking she was a policewoman ("it was that or a french maid") before revealing that she's actually a "kissogram" with a cache of outfits she uses for work. there's also a gesture made towards the idea that her work isn't something she's upfront about - in the same scene, a conversation with an elderly neighbour:

MRS ANGELO: I was just about to phone. It's on every channel. Oh, hello, Amy dear. Are you a policewoman now?

AMY: Well, sometimes.

MRS ANGELO: I thought you were a nurse.

AMY: I can be a nurse.

MRS ANGELO: Or actually a nun?

AMY: I dabble.

obviously like, in theory i wouldn't take issue with amy being written as a sex worker - if anything i think the setup there could, in the hands of Someone Else, be made v compelling - except that in practice i highly doubt steven moffat is invested in writing about sex work as anything other than a cheap laugh for the audience and a way to position her as sexually available (and to provide fodder for then figuring her marriage to rory as incongruent with her personality - it's the bbc family-friendly shorthand for calling her a slut). and the whole "you were a little girl five minutes ago" thing is just, like, gross.

i'm holding off on passing judgement around the general currents concerning amy & sexuality until i've watched more of this season because iirc it does Do Something beyond moffat being a misogynist creep, but, like. i don't think the way the "kissogram" thing plays out at least in e1 suggests that he has a sincere investment in writing thoughtfully about sex work lmao

What do the temples look like? Did Pluto have a temple? And how many rooms are in each temple?

I, admittedly, am not great at buildings/architecture. For that reason, I've pulled together a BUNCH of reference/inspo photos.

So here are a collection of pictures that inspired the temples.

The Sun Temple

I imagine the Sun Temple as a sort of Greek-Catholic fusion type temple. The temple is made of elaborate rooms for prayer and grand gardens. There's an upstairs that's reserved for the temple maids and other workers to live in- much like nuns live in monasteries. The Sun Temple is very grandiose and MASSIVE. This is before we get into the basement, where you can find the kitchens, laundry, and so much storage.

The Luna Temple

Moon's temple is not as extravagant, but it's still massive and still pretty darn extra. There's a library, also. Big surprise, I'm sure! The temple doesn't have much in the way of gardens, and what rooms aren't reserved for prayer are usually dedicated to shelter and medicine. It's a place of science and aid, for sure. It's also two stories, but doesn't have a basement. Instead, storage is on the first floor with the kitchens and all the events/praying happens on the second floor. It has a more ethereal/fantasy vibe to it, lots of stain glass and runes and very pretty. And, yes, a lot of Steven Universe's temples inspired it, so.

The Stone Temple

Pluto's temple was an impressive temple, carved from a mountain face much like her home was. It wasn't really all the fancy inside. After she was imprisoned, the temple was destroyed in an attempt to wipe her from history.

The Temple of Darkness

Eclipse's temple was built at the same time as Sun's and the two- on the outside- mirror each other. A lot of Greek architecture. Though the insides are pretty different. For one, Sun's temple gardens are dedicated to the growth of flowers and pretty things, but Eclipse has had all the flowers torn out in favor of herbs and plants that can be used as medicines- particularly burn medicine. Eclipse's temple isn't nearly as glitzy. The dark themes may seem edgy, but they're actually for the benefit of Obscura, who was light sensitive. This is a one story temple, with a basement. The bedrooms are below, along with the storage (and a torture chamber). The first floor is dedicate to prayer and offering type rooms.

Again, these are just reference images and I do not own them. I have very vivid images of the temples in my mind but drawing them all may kill me, so I hope these will help for now while I work up the stones to start drawing those backgrounds.

She stared into the mirror, making sure every single part of her appearance was perfect. Nothing could go wrong, they would tear her to shreds if even the tiniest bit was wrong.

Her skirt was a calculated length. Not too short, she isn’t a slut after all. Not too long, she isn’t a prudish nun, don’t you know?

Her hair, straightened, then curled to the perfect audradonian standard. She’s a princess, not an unkept scullery maid.

Her clothes, the perfect shade of pink, not too bright or pale, she’s not a child. Sixteen isn’t a child, not when it comes to royalty, not when it comes to being a woman.

Her size is perfectly small, nobody likes a big princess. Nobody likes anyone who’s big. That's why she’s a perfect size 00, the perfect number 100.

She practiced her smile. It can’t have too many teeth, but it also can’t be too small. That makes her seem shy and ungrateful.

She makes sure her voice sounds correct. Not too high and not too low, a perfect mellow. Princesses must always have a voice that is easy to hear.

“I’m grateful all the time”

She can never overindulge, that’s greedy and pig-like. She also can’t not eat or indulge. She’s royalty, does she not realize that others would kill for her title. She must be aware of her title and position, her people are her responsibility, she must respect them.

“I’m sexy and I’m kind” 

She must be both. A standard for others to look up to, but not too much of either. Royals are a status that can never be reached, she mustn’t act like the common folk

“I’m pretty when I cry”

A skill she has perfected from a young age, it was only okay when she was a baby. Well, only tolerable when she was a baby.

Nothing that she thinks matters, she’s meant to be queen, to give the title and thrones of Auroria and Ulstead to her sister. She’s an accessory, not meant to have thoughts and feelings other than her husband’s. 

She doesn’t even have to make a choice of who to marry, that’s decided by her family as well. 

Look at how lucky she is. She’s the perfect princess. The redo for her mother. A true princess of Auradon.

The screams contained in secret diaries don’t exist. The bottles and small baggies hidden under her bed and carefully in the trash don’t exist. The hidden toothbrush  in her bag, only used for one reason, doesn’t exist.

She is perfect. A rose, thorns carefully peeled off, consumable for all to have. Wanted, coveted, adored. 

Timeless.

Just like her mother.

SO if you follow me or follow any my ebro buddies (@yoggybloggy @ghostingbrightly @timesnewfishcat @bitchyfog @alanahsart-blog i think are the ones who have been posted related stuff on tumblr??) you might have noticed #magical girl knights or #mgk or #mgk paragons or just an abundance of #knights and that's totally on us for not agreeing on a tag for it!! personally i use #mgk paragons bc it's the one that seems to be most tumblr tag search friendly.

Basically the premise is magical girls... medieval times and also magical knights!! Girls (gnt) are cosmically chosen or had found their way into becoming Paragons... Supernaturally magically powered knights! It's so fun because knights and mahou shoujo are two concepts that share so much similarities, like having an alter ego, soul crushing sense of duty, wearing cool outfits to fight evil protect the good etc...

The playing ground is pretty big, cuz it's a sliding scale from knightly responsibilities (loyalty to lords! catholicism! squires and horses!) to mahou shoujo tropes (character specific colors and associated powers! magical transformation! power of friendship!), we're still working through lore specifics, but we've already are so attached to these characters XD

It'd be sooo hard to list all the existing characters so I'll just briefly explain a couple that's floating about, and if any ebro member would like to elaborate go ahead!!! :,]

Do the bastards like to dress up their darling? What do they make her wear (besides nothing)? Does it mesh with their styles?

Oh yes. They very much dress up their girls. It actually causes problems because their styles do not mesh with each other.

Reaver likes exactly what you would expect him to. Slutty cosplay, sexy roleplay outfits (kitten, maid, school girl, etc) and things of that nature. He also really likes it when you dress up as him. He loves putting stupid ears on you, tails, lingerie of the exceptionally kinky variety. He has no shame about this. Literally, think of the sluttiest, most degrading kink costume and just know he will go the extra mile.

In public, he will buy you very nice clothing. The finest brand name bullshit. The height of whatever fashion happens to be in at the time. After all, if you are going to be seen with him, you need to look like you belong at his side. Shopping is one of the ways he will try to buy your affection.

Corvus goes batshit for 'traditional' clothing. Long, white nightgowns, pretty dresses with aprons over them, cottage-core type things you'd see in older tv shows. Cardigans, Mary Janes, aprons, long skirts, aprons, shawls, bows, lace, aprons-- you get the point. If he is providing the wardrobe, you will be dressing like the perfect little housewife of his dreams.

When it comes to 'sexy' clothing, it's his 'traditional' kink' but he is also (secretly) partial to maid outfits (He also loves the super traditional ones over the slutty ones.) He also goes fucking bonkers for nun outfits (again, not the slutty ones that the rest of the boys like, but we're talking traditional hair-shirt/wimple/habit old ass nun outfits. And you will be praying, and that rosary will be choking you and-- never mind.) It's usually immersion over exposure for him, basically. Leashes and collars always. He also likes the slutty roleplay, but you will never get him to admit it-- especially the school girl one which he secretly really likes, but he'd rather die than say that out loud.

Asto is a bit more easy going. He's pretty much partial to however you want to dress because it's not really your clothes that he's interested in. If he has a choice, though? He tends to like leather. He's the most likely to dress you 'goth' because he finds it interesting. Darker clothes and makeup. He got a little bit suckered into the 'vampire' aesthetic, and now he leans into it. Likes fishnet and big boots. Corsets that plump you up nice and high so he can bite in easier. Chokers he can rip off. Garter belts. Same way he likes edgy girls with a kick to them, he will dress you that way.

Sexy clothes? Stands firmly with Reaver on loving roleplay outfits. He will openly admit it and feels no shame. However, he can also get really into whatever traditional outfit that Corvus is wailing on about assuming it's done well. Corvus is throwing a fit and wants a long white nightgown on the girl? Fine, but he's the big, bad vampire lord coming to corrupt the sweet girl in her dumbass ye olde nightgown.

Ilya hasn't had much time to figure it out yet. He's experimenting, the same as he is with most other things. He will openly admit he's partial (more than partial) to Reaver's horrifically degrading outfits, but he hasn't managed to find a favorite yet. He's not as big of a fan of the traditional outfits that Corvus enjoys (like a genuine nun outfit), but he can make it work. He will dress you like a favored concubine because it's what he has the most experience with. Think princess Leia while she's with Jabba the hut. Golden chain, long, flowing and yet somehow revealing skirt, some kind of unlatchable metal bralet, you get the gist. But that's more what he's used to as opposed to what he genuinely loves.

When it comes to regular day to day, he's likely to give you one of his robes. Comfortable with easy access. Satin pants, long sleeves, basically the same thing he wears. Easy enough to peel off, but very comfortable. Trust me, you'll be glad of it. He doesn't mind the traditional clothing that Corvus likes, but he finds Astarion's whole edgy thing more interesting, albeit a little strange. Truthfully, he can find something to like about most modern styles because it intrigues him. Pretty dresses, jeans, sweatpants, he can romanticize just about anything. He won't stuff you into anything you don't like, and will tend to let you dress how you want within reason because there's a reason he likes you, and he wants the authentic you.
