Moonlight fell across the floorboards, broken only by his shadow from where he sat curled on the windowsill, feet tucked under him ( just in case ). He hardly noticed the chill of the night air — nothing compared to the frigid bite of his homeland — as he stared out the window.

Even in the dark, he could pick out the ripple of the breeze through Poisson, the flicker of shadows in the night. He'd woken from his nightmare agitated and unsettled, and even after determining their room was empty save for them, he couldn't settle the nerves. Instead of stalking through the streets like the monster he'd been called, he chose to park himself on the windowsill, where he could see outside, and he could see her.

Her voice drew his focus from the window, and he glanced over his shoulder to find her bright blue eyes on him. The tangle of nerves in his chest loosened enough a small smile flashed across his face.

"I didn't mean to wake you."

He hopped down from his perch and crossed the room soundlessly. He could take his place behind her again, back to the wall, or. . .

The bed dipped under his weight as he sat on the edge and brushed a strand of golden hair away from her face. He skimmed his lips against the tip of her nose as he slipped back under the blankets and turned to press his back to her chest. His hand found hers and he guided it around his chest, pressing her palm against his bare skin, right above his heart, where it still fluttered anxiously.

"Can we stay like this, for a bit?" he asked quietly, nearly a whisper, and yet it still felt deafening in the silence.

Someone cleaning him up after a fight was an unfamiliar feeling but, despite the sting, it wasn't an unwelcome one. He only ever gave himself the bare minimum of first aid, and the many scars decorating his skin testified to that.

And despite the sting, he saw no reason why it should dissuade him from starting such fights in the future. He'd won, and none of his injuries were severe. If it would get Thoma to do this again, though. . .

(( Miranda's so funny to me because she's SUCH a mean dom and so specifically and solely a dom, except for a very, very small number of people who she trusts enough to even act slightly subby for them.

As in, this is a step beyond even her trusting someone else with her life. This is so dearly serious to her and she is so scared for someone to sense weakness in her that she just cannot conceive of possibly not defaulting to dom-mode unless she would follow her partner to the end of the world and back.
