i alternate between more worldbuilding and more conlang heavy phases and whenever i enter back into a conlanging phase the autism just kicks into overdrive its all i can think about i already have so many ideas. i was thinking word order could start out as VSO. then S/O verb agreement evolves thru pronouns becoming suffixes. the subject now gets fronted, > SVO. one daughter language could then evolve topic marking, fronting the object when it's the topic, > OSV. now in sentences where the S is the topic the O retains its position before the verb, > SOV, the new default. maybe this change could also trigger prepositions to become postpositions. no idea how naturalistic this would be but its an idea
#and then if at an earlier stage some prepositions evolved into case prefixes#id have prefixes and postpositions.......nice#regarding case i was thinking: “at” would become accusative and locative#“to” dative and allative and alienable possession#“with” comitative and inalienable possession#and a topic marker could evolve from “for maybe?#ramblings#oh GOD i just remembered verbs. shudder#not thinking about that yet#actually its not that bad

demon!ford and human!bill au where ford is summoned by sheer spite is immensely funny to me. like. bill's studying the phenomena of weirdness in gfalls and reads the incantation in the cave when he hits a roadblock. nothing happens. so he goes back home to maybe try and categorize the dumpster fire of loose papers on his desk into something geographically approximate to a thesis, and he's not even two sentences into drafting—"The chances of the cloak flipping back off when inconvenient are more smaller when in the enchanted forest"— when someone sits in the armchair across the room.
"Much."
"What?!"
"It's much smaller." The being crosses their legs and adjusts their glasses. "Comparatives, kid."
#ford when someone reads the incantation: i'm not answering this#ford when a gerund isn't used when a verb comes after a preposition: REAL SHIT?#you CAN'T tell me mr. Grammar‚ Stanley‚ wouldn't conjure himself the minute the same chucklehead that tried to summon him#places an adjective incorrectly#while writing abt the very subject he summoned him for#billford#gravity falls#hcs and aus

What do you mean by read the Palladium on the tags of the post? As far as I knew no texts survived the actual telling of the Palladium theft? Am I mistaken? (Genuine question, not malicious)
Nope, you're completely correct! That's fully a mistake on my part (I meant to write read about the Palladium) but because I'm on mobile I couldn't edit the tags without completely deleting them 😔 I ended up just leaving them as is but I certainly don't mind the formal correction cause like, the Palladium very much is one of the story bits that we no longer have written record of. Thank you very much my scrupulous anon! o7
#ginger answers asks#NO BECAUSE I NOTICED THE MINUTE I POSTED IT#I actually make quite a few typos when I write including leaving out word endings skipping over prepositions/conjunctions#and doubling up on verbs#it's easier for me to see them when I post and then edit them retroactively because my brain percieves them slightly differently#so please don't hesitate to point things out like this to me!! especially when they end up implying shit that doesn't exist like this one 😭#I can't redo my tags rn but I'll correct them as soon as I can#thank you anon <33

New fun language learning activities: read Wikipedia pages for philosophical and political theories in your target language, just for kicks.
#but actually. very funny.#this was inspired by the fact that I hit the random page button on italian wikipedia and ended up on the page l'anarchismo collettivista.#feel like this is probably either bewildering to any data trackers OR what will get me put on a watchlist. toss up really.#but actually great for like. weird verb forms and prepositions.#got told by an italian woman last month that she was impressed I used the word 'mentre' and I was like. welp.#might as well embrace being That Person who talks and writes like a fucking nerd regardless of context in TWO languages.#but also like. idk man. this is the problem with language learning. is mentre NOT a normal preposition? how do you say 'although'?#it was in fact used in the l'anarchismo collettivista article tho so. points for me.#but yeah I did squint at the word 'mezzi' before I processed the whole phrase and went 'oH MEANS OF PRODUCTION' so like#REALLY the moral of the story is to read up on pages that you would know the phrasing of in your native language lmfao#so you can figure out the weird words via context clues.

Four years of fucking grammar and I cannot work the hell out what the fuck "von jedem" is in the sentence "Mein Garten wird von jedem bewundert."
#Dativobjekt??? Dativobjekt.#Like girl a verb cannot simply evolve a hankering for a präp object by switching genus verbi alone#also screaming at the book to give me the adverbial classifications. begging on my HANDS AND KNEES#beablabbers#edit: WAIT THE DATIV IS NOT GOVERNED BY THE VERB IT IS GOVERNED BY THE PREPOSITION#SHAKES VON JEDEM LIKE WHAT ARE YOUUUUUUU

relearning irish in adulthood is wild. there's just no verb for 'to have' in irish.
#you add the preposition of 'at' to the verb for 'to be'#so you literally say 'there is x at me' instead of 'i have x'#and u can hear it in hibero english too...... 'do you have a phone charger on you?'#languages!!!!!!!
