At first Tyler's methods helps Brian get back on his feet, but the more he learns of Tyler's expansion plans, the more he realizes he might be bad news. A good read if you want a funny, goofy take down of toxic masculinity that doesn't take itself very seriously.

Red Hood by Elana K. Arnold
Young adult horror. A take on the little red riding hood tale where the girl is both the victim of the wolf and the huntsman who slays it. After a particularly embarrassing incident, young Bisou flees into the woods, only to be faced with a predatory wolf. To her shock, their face-off ends with the wolf dead, not Bisou. Even more shocking: the dead wolf turns into a boy. Suddenly, Bisou finds herself a hunter and a protector, routing out the wolves who masquerade as boys. Visceral and bloody, but pretty feminism 101 in its portrayal.

A trove of long-classified government documents concerning some of the most politically charged killings in modern American history — including the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy — could finally be made available to the public.
But that's just the start of the latest saga surrounding the killings, which have sparked fascination, conspiracy theories, and history-changing debate for decades.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday aimed at declassifying government documents related to the assassinations of former President John F. Kennedy, his brother and presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. The order essentially requires the nation's security organizations to create plans to release the records.
The full findings of the government investigations into the three killings have been hidden for decades, sparking wide-ranging speculation and preventing a sense of closure for many Americans. All three men were national and international icons whose assassinations — and the theories swirling around them — became the stuff of books, movies, controversy, and the pages of history itself.
“A lot of people were waiting for this . . . for years, for decades," said Trump in signing the release of the documents. “Everything will be revealed.”
Tragedy in Dallas: JFK assassination on Nov. 22, 1963
The shock of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963 still echoes more than half a century later.
John F. Kennedy, known for both his glamour and steering the country through the closest it ever came to nuclear war, was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. He was shot and killed as his presidential motorcade brought him along a downtown city street and as he waved to adoring bystanders from the open-roofed car.
Police arrested Lee Harvey Oswald less than an hour later. But Oswald himself was killed on live TV just two days later as police were transferring him to a county jail.
Oswald’s killer, Jack Ruby, acted alone on an impulse, the President's Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy, known as the Warren Commission, concluded. The commission ruled that Oswald also acted alone.
The JFK assassination sent the nation into mourning and shook it to its core, as Americans searched for answers. Hundreds of books have been written and documentaries produced, with bits and pieces of information emerging to this day.
Many regard the commission’s work as a government-orchestrated coverup and doubts have been raised over who killed John F. Kennedy have persisted. Conspiracy theorists lay the blame on everyone from Cuba — at the heart of the nuclear missile crisis — to the CIA itself.
The wide-ranging theories over Kennedy’s death - how many shooters were involved, how many bullets - became so ingrained in popular culture that they made it onto the comedy series Seinfeld.
MLK assassinated in Memphis, April 4, 1968
King, whose work furthering the Civil Rights Movement is honored with a federal holiday, was killed on the balcony outside his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Atlanta preacher was visiting the city to march alongside striking workers. On the evening of the assassination, he was preparing to leave for dinner at the home of a local minister.
He stepped outside to speak with colleagues in the parking lot below and was shot in the face by an assassin. James Earl Ray, a 40-year-old escaped fugitive, later confessed to the crime and was sentenced to a 99-year prison term.
But Ray later tried to withdraw his confession and said he was set up by a man named Raoul. He maintained until his death in 1998 that he did not kill King.
A Memphis tavern owner and a former FBI agent both also claimed a figure named Raoul was behind the killing, according to the Department of Justice.
Loyd Jowers, a former Memphis tavern owner, claimed 25 years after the murder that he participated in a mafia-linked conspiracy to kill King. Jowers also linked Memphis police and Raoul to the assassination, the Justice Department said.
Donald Wilson, a former FBI agent, also claimed in 1998 that after King’s assassination he found some papers in Ray’s car that mentioned Raoul as well as figures linked to the Kennedy assassination. Wilson said the papers were stolen from him by someone who later worked in the White House, according to the Justice Department.
RFK killed in Los Angeles on June 5, 1968
Robert F. Kennedy never achieved the political heights of his older brother. But he was no less a beloved figure for his championing of civil rights.
He served as his brother’s attorney general and as a senator. He was killed in Los Angeles where he had gone for the California Democratic primary, just months after declaring his presidential candidacy.
The younger Kennedy spent the evening of the election at a suite at the Ambassador Hotel awaiting election results. He eventually went down to a hotel ballroom to thank supporters, then went through the hotel kitchen after being told it was a shortcut to a press room.
An assassin, Sirhan Sirhan, killed him as he shook hands with a hotel busboy. Sirhan remains in prison.
But some believe the same elements behind the older Kennedy’s assassination also killed the former senator.
The presidential candidate’s son Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s pick to run the Department of Health and Human Services, has long maintained that Sirhan didn’t even shoot his father. The Trump cabinet pick believes Sirhan missed and that instead his dad was shot by a man linked to the CIA.

She can't remember the first time she got arrested in its totality; it comes and goes in pieces.
A party, neon lights, and a back room with white powder on a table. She remembers to a tee what it felt like before she blacked out: scared. Remembers her hands were shaky, sweaty, her heart pounded out of her chest, and she bit her lips so hard they bled. She remembers the pressure behind her eyes when the people around her looked at her in anticipation.
“Just one line, like old times.”
So she did.
She picked up the rolled up piece of paper and did it without a second thought.
One line turned to two, and two turned to three. Then at some point she blacked out.
She gets bits and pieces of a police raid, but she was too high to recognize the severity so she stayed put with her head on a table. She remembers the police yanked her up, pushed her around, and screamed at her for answers. She thought they were speaking another language, and her heart thumped out of her chest - she threw up on a cop's shoes before they shoved her in a car.
She woke up in a drunk tank in the police station, her head hurt and the bright lights overhead made her feel nauseated. She could barely open her eyes without a painful sting, her mouth was dry, and her makeup was smeared.
She was a failure in the span of six hours. A dire attempt at fixing her life, and putting it back together again completely down the drain.
She stopped trying to get sober for some time after that.
Pills was where she started, snagging them from her foster parents' medicine cabinet here and there. They never noticed - so called dad was always on the road, “work” or so he said, and so called mom was out and about with another man, and didn't give a fuck about her anyway. Her older sister had aged out of the program, but she would've been the one to save her if she was aware of the gravity.
No one knew just how bad it was. Not even her.
She was introduced to Kuroo Tetsuro in high school by Yaku. Tall guy, charming, with a devious business - party drugs. From ecstacy to lsd, she tried it all, but fell in love with cocaine.
From there, her life spiraled into dime bags and failing grades until she barely graduated with a rotten gpa. She learned to only blame herself; it wasn't Tetsuro or Morisuke's fault, they wouldn't have shown her the world if it meant she would ruin it for herself. But she only learned that in the sanctity of a circle.
She only had herself to blame.
Addiction was woven into her dna, and no matter how much pulling and yanking she did, she could never get it out.
Addicted to cocaine, addicted to attention, addicted to caffeine, addicted to pulling others down alongside her so at least she didn't burn alone - a laundry list she kept hidden next to the skeletons in her closet.
She used to blame her biological parents, though she never met them. She found out both were addicts - blamed it on shitty genes - and was never the same since. She pointed the finger at everyone else for her transgressions, until she found herself airing out woes to those just as fucked up as she was.
Her neighbor, who took xanax from his son, blamed his ex wife. The barista, who popped oxy, blamed her shitty boyfriend. The high school boy blamed his friends for getting hooked on ketamine. And the preacher's wife blamed god for creating heroin to begin with.
She blamed it on a shitty hand at life and a stupid decision.
The phone on her nightstand won't stop buzzing, perpetually on vibrate because the ring tone annoys her. After the tenth buzz, she finally opens her eyes with a loud groan and picks it up.
“What?” Her voice is gravely, annoyed, as she flops back down in the comfort of her covers.
“Watch it, asshole!” It’s Morisuke, and she groans upon realizing that he was in a mood. The man was testy, flighty, and a terror - if he pulled the pin to his anger, truly no one was safe. “Last time I'm a good friend if that's how you answer.” He emphasizes the words ‘good friend’ like it's supposed to mean something, a jab at her. But she's used to it, and rolls her eyes.
A complicated relationship: her and Yaku. Each other's biggest supporters, but natural born enemies; they toed the line of toxic more often than not.
He called her when he needed something: drugs or a connection. She called him when she wanted an escape, for someone to tell her she wasn't the problem, or simply to get off. And they both would meet in the middle on their psyche - completely and utterly fucked.
Sleep deprivation is starting to get to her because she doesn't think of the consequences of the blonde when she out right ends the call after his statement. She tosses the phone beside her and closes her eyes once more. Her bed is warm, cozy; she just did laundry the other day and she feels halfway normal.
But her phone buzzes again, and this time it won't stop at all.
She grits her teeth and pushes herself to sit up, grabbing at the phone in anger just to get it to stop buzzing. It's still Morisuke, and part of her wants to chuck the phone across the room and watch it shatter. “What the fuck do you want, Yaku?”
“Either get your ass here or have fun in jail again!” The call ends just as quickly as it began, and she finally sees why it's Morisuke's third time in anger management.
She tosses her phone down again, and it takes a moment to process the words in her mind, still groggy from sleep. But her eyes flicker over to the green tinted numbers on her phone, and her stomach lurches to her throat.
8:20
“Shit!” Suddenly she's scrambling out of bed and grabbing any article of clothing off the floor. She worked well into the early hours of the morning the past few nights, and she has nightmares when she does finally close her eyes. The past haunts her, the things she remembers at least, and she just can't seem to escape it no matter how much she kicked or screamed.
Last night brought her down the memory lane of awful things she did for drugs.
She sold her car, now she walks everywhere. Sold possessions, now she has nothing. She begged, borrowed, and stole. Now she's got a criminal record and a list of friends with their names crossed out. She always wakes up when it gets to the worst of it, and she'll never look at herself in a clean lense anymore. Forever dirty, forever unclean - forever a junkie.
Her hair is a mess, her socks don't match, her clothes are wrinkled and smell like cigarettes. But as soon as she's dressed, she's out the door.
She sold her car for a quarter of its worth all to get high “just one more time” so she runs.
It's cold, and she feels pathetic. Already out of breath and she hasn't even made it a block. But the fear of being incarcerated again makes the burning feeling in her chest dull. The walk usually takes her fifteen minutes, but the street signs blurring past her makes her think she can get there in time.
She doesn't feel the crushing weight on her shoulders when she swings open the door of the community center. Doesn't feel that same sense of dread from last time as she runs down the hallway. She's too focused on the crisis at hand: going back to jail. Not a good look to her parole officer if she skipped only the second day.
She comes to a full stop in front of the door, panting and wheezing for air with her hands on her knees. Her phone is in her pocket, grabbing it alongside her cigarettes in a rush out the door, and she checks the time.
8:35
Five minutes never killed anybody. So she walks in when she finds her breath and keeps her head down.
They're looking at her, she can feel it. Everyone's eyes bore into her so sharply she hisses when she closes the door behind her. Morisuke is on the far side of the room, he didn't save her a seat. Even if he did, she couldn't find it in herself to walk in front of everyone. He knows that.
But there's an open seat tucked into the back, cramped next to the wall. Next to the guard dog, her accountability partner, that guy who called her stupid over a lighter. She bites her cheek hard, she'll have a sore later on but she doesn't even care, she hates the thought of having to sit next to him.
She sees his eyes glance over to her, he's hunched down in the seat with his hood up and his hands in his pockets, and suddenly she feels small - miniscule. He looks at her as if she were nothing, not rude, but unimportant as his eyes move to look forward again.
“You look like shit, Weezer,” he doesn't even look at her when he speaks. Instead, he's got an intense look in his eyes. It looks like he's listening, but really he was completely checked out.
He's got this hard ass look to him that makes her want to scoff. Narrowed gaze and furrowed brows; a perpetual irritated aura that was sharp and burned at the touch. He has a bruise on his chin, black and blue as if he just got it, and she wonders who put it there - she wishes it were her.
“Says the jackass who got punched in the jaw.”
There's a hint of a pull at his lips, like he enjoys the back and forth. The harsh whispered exchange amongst near strangers felt like a game to him, but pissed her off to no end. She can't put her finger on the exact reason as to why. Maybe it's how he holds himself, standoffish and cold. Or how he speaks to her like she's nothing but a pawn, a means to an end just to get a rise - to fuel his own ego.
She believes it's another reason though. He was an asshole and she was a loose cannon.
He doesn't say anything in response, doesn't give her the satisfaction. Instead, he cuts his eyes to her. Looks her down like a predator sizing up prey, and his gaze lingers, until he looks away entirely.
The boiling feeling in her blood starts again, and she feels like adding another bruise to his jaw right then and there. She grits her teeth, she feels hot and downright pathetic. But one thing about self loathing is that it always made her wallow, and wallowing meant she craved.
So she counts.
She taps her foot with every number in her head. It's quiet, a gentle rap against the dirty tiled floor, and she focuses on the numbers and her breathing. Once she reaches twenty, and the feeling hasn't subsided in the slightest, she feels like getting up from her chair and screaming. Like yelling into the void just so someone, anyone, would hear her. But she doesn't. She stays put and counts faster.
“Cut that shit out.” The guard dog looks at her in annoyance, he can hear the taps and it's starting to pluck a cord.
She doesn't look at him this time. And if anything, his statement makes her bounce her leg even more. “Fuck off, Mad Dog.”
“Quit it.” His eyes narrow and his jaw tightens, if she looked at him she might very well have been scared. There's something about the man that screams something awful, something terrible, something not worth poking a bear to find out.
“No.”
He grimaces, and she's none the wiser. But her stomach drops when he reaches for the back of her chair - she shouldn't have poked the bear.
Her numbers get all jumbled when he pushes the chair forward. It's sudden and jerky, moved with a force only caused by anger and annoyance. There's a loud screech when he moves her chair, it cuts through any conversation or lesson the therapist was having, long and drawn out, slow enough to grab everyone's attention - for everyone to look back.
“Then do that shit over there, not around me.”
He sounds almost proud of the way the words drip from his mouth, callous and to the point. Snarky and laced with venom. She doesn't even have it in her to look back, to even catch his eyes anymore, because she knows the deep settled feeling of hate in her gut is overbearing. If she looked back, she'd add more than just a bruise to his jaw - she would kill him if she could.
Her cheeks and ears are hot, and the therapist asks a question that goes unanswered by her. She can't even hear it over the blood roaring in her ears; the churning feeling in her stomach is the only thing she's able to focus on. Her eyes are screwed shut and her hands ate balled into fists - everyone is staring, she knows it, so she keeps her head tucked down.
“Go to, fucking, hell.” Whispered between gritted teeth, just loud enough to be within ear shot. She doesn't hear his reply, she doesn't want to, she doesn't care.
She doesn't count for the rest of the class. She sat there in white, hot, sticky anger until it was time to leave.
She couldn't get out of the room fast enough. Cramped, stuffy, and anger ripping at her every seam. She felt like she was drawn and quartered, pulled limb from limb by the suffocating feeling. She swallows hard when she finally gets outside, the cold nipping at her face and cooling her down. Like ice on a stove, it melted quickly.
She doesn't remember the last time she'd been this angry; maybe a time that she was arrested, or maybe for something as simple as dropping her phone. (She'd been through three already, there was something satisfying about watching the plastic and glass shatter.)
Her hand reaches for the cigarettes in her hoodie pocket, she got a new pack the night before. Mevius, with some shitty new flavor, but she's smoked enough that the lighter now fits in the pack. She puts the cigarette between her lips and flicks the lighter, but groans when it doesn't ignite.
Her hands are shaky, from anger or the cold but she couldn't tell which. She flicks it again. And again. And again.
Nothing.
There's a moment where she pauses, and things seem to slow. Like the world around her decelerates and calms. She can see her breath in the air, uneven and ragged. The woeful emotion of stupidity washes over her, and she feels at a loss when her eyes flicker to the lighter in her hand.
She's craving, she's cold, she's angry, and she can't even light a god forsaken cigarette.
There's a soft breeze in the air, it makes her shiver. But then she snaps. Like a twig being cracked over a knee, and throws the lighter to the concrete. The action was unexpected and rough; a high tower crumbling out of nowhere and rubble falling wherever it may.
The white lighter cracks, splinters - shatters. The butane in it, or what was left, soaked into the cement and into the cracks. The shards of plastic feathered out around her - a circle, and she feels like heaving.
“You need a light?” The voice spooks her, and she turns quickly behind her. It's the guard dog. He's got the same expression as before: forever angered by something, but his eyes aren't as narrowed as before. Aren't as sharp when he looks at the remnants of the lighter around her.
She wants to spit at him. To tell him off, scream, hit him - something. But she can't find the fight she once had seconds ago. Anger was testy, and tricky, it came in waves. Hit her like a wave until it spit her back out into sorrow; a fucked up pathway created by drugs and frying her brain.
“No.” She's lying through her teeth, she wants a smoke more than anything right now. He can tell.
He already has his own cigarette between his lips, and she hears him light it. She's too caught up to even look him in the eyes anymore; she feels like a dog with its tail between its legs - ashamed and scorn.
He doesn't pass her the lighter, doesn't make the effort to give her something of his - the sneaky habit of swiping lighters was something he assumed everyone had.
He ignites it and holds it out to her.
She looks at the flame and her breathing staggers. The cigarette between her lips almost falls, and a sinking feeling washes over her. He gives her a look to hurry up, to not waste his lighter or his time. So she caves and leans into the flame.
She breathes in and the world goes back to normal - back to shit. Everything is at its normal pace once more, but the sinking feeling just won't stop. “I didn't need your help.” More so to convince herself as she said it aloud.
“Yeah you did.” He sounds sure of it, and she scoffs.
“No, I-”
“A thank you would suffice.” He's blunt and to the point. He's settled back into the same dick head attitude from before.
Her eyes flicker over to him - he's taken a few steps back from where he originally stood - and he keeps his eyes forward as he takes the smoke from his lips. She doesn't say anything in reply, but her gaze lingers for a moment before returning to the ground.
He's nonchalant and brash, cold, and callous. But he offered her a light despite the obvious need she felt of tearing his throat out. It makes her feel sick, so she pushes the thought to the back of her mind and keeps smoking.
“Why are you really here, Weezer?” His words cut through the thick silence, but she keeps her eyes to the ground all the same. She debates on even answering, but sighs as she ashes the cigarette.
“Because people like you piss me off.” She feels as if a fuse in her brain short circuits, the neurons she fried with cocaine fire out of order and scramble her emotions. She doesn't know what she feels anymore, but she cuts her eyes up to him like she's got all the confidence in the world. “Arrogant and rude.”
His eyes meet hers at the statement, and for once she can see the brown in them through a narrowed gaze. “Yet we're in the same class, so what does that make you?”

Of all the lost ancient sources on Alexander - those we do not have - which one do you think is more likely to be just or mostly propaganda instead of actual history?
Alexander and Propaganda
Well, I suspect all of them had some useful history embedded, but I reckon Onesikritos is the most notorious for writing nonsense recognized as nonsense in his own time. He reputedly cracked up Lysimachos with his account of the Amazon Queen. He seems generally to be regarded as a boaster. He certainly inflated his own place in the campaign.
Ephippos of Olynthos is almost certainly guilty of negative propaganda, although we have so little of it (reliably attributed to him), it's hard to tell a lot. He didn't like Alexander (or Hephaistion), apparently.
Pompeius Trogus (on which Justin's account is based) was also highly problematic (and negative), not unlike Theopompos of Chios, writing about ATG's father Philip. This is one reason (of several) that Justin simply can't be relied on unless it backs up something found elsewhere ... which is super-annoying as some things are found ONLY in Justin. But is he making shit up?
Last, I want to mention Kallisthenes, Alexander's own court historian. It would be LOVELY to have Kallisthenes in full, even if it cut off in Baktria ('cause he was arrested!). Yet as the official account, I think we can tag it as propaganda in at least some places. He wrote some nonsense to flatter Alexander, such as the waves of the Aegean bowing to the king at one point. 🙄 He's also the one who did the most to promote Alexander as the son of Ammon.
BUT it would be great to have him because there's probably quite a lot of useful detail embedded in the account thanks to access to official records. We'd have to be careful of some exaggeration (especially in enemy numbers and enemy dead, et al.) but it would still be info much closer to the source than anything we've got now. So yes, definitely propaganda, but I'd still like to have it.
(This doesn't address later, Roman accounts who used him for moral lessons, like Lucian of Samosata and Seneca the Elder. What they're writing is akin to modern preachers telling parable anecdotes in sermons, and about as divorced from history. After all, a good parable can be TRUE without being, you know, historically accurate.)
For more on Alexander in our Roman-Era authors.

Today we venerate Ancestor & Hoodoo Saint Nat Turner on his 223rd birthday 🎉
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fea8ece00ba51465bd9d2db17c008b36/71825884a516e772-6a/s540x810/72034b991a09aa44162536d8c265a4c30ff289a8.webp)
King Nat was a Seer, prophet, preacher, & Freedom Fighter who used his intuitive gifts to spearhead one of the greatest slave rebellions in U.S. History; one that would shift the trajectory of Black lives under Maafa for decades to come.
King Nat was born enslaved on the Benjamin Turner plantation in Southampton Co., VA. He was a highly intuitive and gifted child. He could easily recall events that took place in his life as early as 3 or 4 years old. He also foretold of events that occurred before his time. His grandmother was a deeply spiritual elder and nurtured his spiritual development. His mother and many of those enslaved on the Turner plantation knew that he would become a prophet & was surely destined for a higher purpose.
For his "uncommon intelligence ", Nat learned to read & write at a young age at which time he was also indoctrinated into Christianity. His interpretation of the Christian bible convinced him that the Christian God condemned Slavery. This inspired him to become a preacher.
By age 21, King Nat was a prolific Seer & was known as, "The Prophet". Nat received many visions & Divine messages over the course of his life. Much of which guided him to avenge slavery & free our peoples from bondage. He had a series of 3 visions that would set him on course to fulfilling his highest purpose, thus forever impressing his name upon in U.S. history.
The 1st vision came as he was following in his father's footsteps, fleeing the plantation. To everyone's astonishment he returned of his own volition after spending 30 days in the woods because, “the Spirit appeared to [him] and said [he] had [his] wishes directed to the things of this world, and not to the kingdom of heaven, and that [he] should return to the service of [his] earthly master.” One year later, the devil died.
On May 12, 1828, Nat he received a 2nd vision, as he witnessed a solar eclipse. He “heard a loud noise in the heavens, and the Spirit instantly appeared to me and said the serpent was loosened, and Christ had laid down the yoke he had borne for the sins of men, and that I should take it on and fight against the serpent, for the time was fast approaching when the first should be last and the last should be first.” This, he believed to be the sign he had been promised.
On, August 13th 1831, Spirit delivered a 3rd message; in the form of lights across the night sky. At which time, an atmospheric disturbance across the sky in the aftermath of an eruption at Mount St. Helen's (3,000 mi away) caused the Sun to appear bluish-green in color. Nat prayed to learn their meaning. For Nat, this reaffirmed the work that he'd been called to do; to move forward with his mission to avenge Slavery & free those he could. From then on his plans were set into motion.
At 2am on August 22nd, King Nat led his peers & allies into rebellion. They struck their slaver's household first; slaughtering the entire family. From there they went from house to house, killing every single devil in their path. By noon, they marched toward the neighboring town of Jerusalem where a White militia of 3,000 men lie in wait for them.
Most of the rebels were either captured or killed - except for Nat. He managed to escape & eluded Virginian authorities for 2mo. He hid in the woods just miles from his former slaver's plantation. He was discovered on October 30th by an armed farmer who stumbled across him hiding in a foxhole. Emaciated and weak, he surrendered willingly. After his arrest, Turner was taken back to Jerusalem where he stood trial & was convicted, then sentenced to death by hanging. Nat was killed on November 11th.
To our deepest disdain & no suprise, he was denied a formal burial. Instead, his body was taken to doctors for dissection, to be distributed among affluent White families. He was skinned to make their purses. His flesh was turned into grease. And his bones were divided up into trophies. These became heirloom souvenirs to be passereceive among these affluent White families for generations.
Although King Nat did not end slavery as he had hoped, he & his allies avenged those who wronged them, and they did, ultimately, achieve their freedom from this world. Nat became immortalized as a symbol; of warrior strength (for us) & a catalyst of White fear. King Nat single-handedly shook the institution of Slavert at its core. So much that it stretched the divide between Pro-Slavers & Abolitionists. Pro-slavery advocates began calling for greater restrictions on "Freefolk" & demanded that Abolitionists cease their interference with Slavery. In Virginia, politicians saw Nat's intelligence & education as a major threat, thus outlawing the practice of teaching enslaved Peoples how to read or write. Abolitionists' efforts to end Slavery only intensified. This set the stage in U.S politics for the Civil War.
"I had a vision - and I saw white spirits and black spirits engaged in battle, and the sun was darkened - the thunder rolled in the Heavens, and blood flowed in streams - and I heard a voice saying, 'Such is your luck, such are you called to see, and let it come rough or smooth, you must surely bear it." - Nat Turner; "Confessions of Nat Turner".
Let us remember that it was more than bravery, nerve, & standing ten toes down that drove King Nat's rebellion to success. It was, first and foremost, leading with Spirit & trusting in our intuitive/Ancestral gifts.
We pour libations & give him💐 today as we celebrate him for his gifts, Divine trust, bravery, and sacrifice. May we lift him up in prayer & offering in gratitude & lace toward his elevation.
Offering suggestions: prayers toward his healing/elevation, a Methodist bible, libations of water - especially on the battlegrounds of rebellion in Courtland, VA/Benjamin Turner plantation/, read & share his confessions
‼️Note: offering suggestions are just that & strictly for veneration purposes only. Never attempt to conjure up any spirit or entity without proper divination/Mediumship counsel.‼️

As believers, we are called to spread the Good News to all corners of the world. Yet, in these challenging times, those who answer this divine call often face fierce opposition. The story of Pastor Meinecke serves as a stark reminder of the growing hostility towards public expressions of faith, particularly when it comes to sharing God’s Word in the public square.
Pastor Meinecke’s ordeal began on June 24, 2022, the day the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the landmark Dobbs decision. Meinecke saw the large protest gathering in downtown Seattle as an opportunity to share the Gospel. He took his Bible and began reading from the Book of John. However, his peaceful act of faith was met with immediate hostility...

Hey all, asking for help for a cause close to home. A fascist in South Bend, Indiana attacked a bunch of drag show defenders, and now the fash are trying to nail one of the defenders with a felony assault charge while their community terrorizer gets off scot free.
" **Our original fundraiser was likely targeted with reporting by fascists and removed by the platform. Approximately 4K raised there was retained by the defense committee though. This is our new platform and there should be no issues as this platform has allowed legal defense funds of all kinds for many years. Nice try fascists. Our solidarity is stronger than your hate.** "Tonna Robinson is a highly valued and loved community organizer in South Bend, Indiana who has advocated tirelessly for and stood with those seeking reproductive justice, those seeking racial justice, the homeless, teachers, and the LGBTQ community. The LGBTQ Center of South Bend has organized and hosted family friendly drag shows for the community for nearly a decade. In the last 3 years those drag shows have been targeted and under attack by hate preachers as well as known and documented fascists who come to violently attack the events for multiple years now. Community members have come together and gathered outside the events to protect them from those that seek to interrupt them and do violent harm. "On June 7, 2024 many community members trying to protect the family friendly drag show were violently attacked. The fascist attacker for multiple years now has never been charged. But on August 15, 2024 community organizer and drag show protector Tonna Robinson was arrested at her home and charged with felony assault. Tonna needs our community support in fighting these charges. She is now out on bond and will be hiring an attorney. Please donate to Tonna's legal defense fund to assist her in beating these charges. Her next court date is September 4, 2024. Support Tonna by donating to her legal defense fund, sharing the fundraiser, attending and promoting upcoming fundraising events and upcoming court hearings. No more hate! We protect us! "Thank you for your solidarity & support!"

‘Theatre changed my life,’ says Michael Sheen. ‘Now my passion is for helping others’
Theatre can change lives. And I should know. It’s changed my life more than I’d ever have imagined. Back in 2011, a play called The Passion took over the streets of my hometown of Port Talbot. And I haven’t been the same since.
Perhaps the perception of actors before a play is that we’ll learn a few lines, try on a few costumes... break a leg. But with The Passion, I went all in like never before.
I also met the people doing vital work in the community I grew up in, helping vulnerable people who need it the most, often at make-or-break moments. Being at this coalface of community opened my eyes.
This patchwork of people holding society together with the thinnest of threads, going over and above each and every day to help people in almost every aspect of their lives.
I saw then – and I continue to see – kind-hearted, warm, tolerant people helping out their fellow humans to bring communities together. These are the people who make our nation what it is.
The good deeds that these people did – from giving young carers a night off to go bowling, to setting up the only grief counselling service in the area – generally worked under fragile funding and often were under-appreciated by the wider community.
I knew then that I had to devote as much time and energy as I could to helping, however I could.
In the decade and a half since The Passion, I’ve started projects around homelessness, high-cost credit, care, and local journalism. And for the past 18 months, these have come under the banner of a movement known as Mab Gwalia.
Mab Gwalia believes that opportunity should not only be available to those who can afford it. The ambition is to build a movement that makes change.
We support people and projects which work in three ways: projects creating opportunity and fighting for fairness; projects rooted in communities, helping people directly; and projects that work in new and ambitious ways to deliver change.
My work on The Passion made me realise there’s so many people out there doing this. And Mab Gwalia has supported as many of them as we can.
This has included: Army veterans in Merthyr Tydfil. Autism support for children in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Food growing in Pembrokeshire. Opportunities for women in Swansea who’ve suffered knock-back after knock-back. Community skills hubs in Rhyl.
Theatre changed my life. Now I want the spark it set off in me to do the same for others.
My ancestor, Nanny Blower, the lion tamer
My great-great grandmother was called Mary Ann-North. Or Nanny Blower, as we know her.
She left Wales for New York in 1896 where she became, wait for it, an elephant and lion tamer for the Bostock and Wombwell Circus. Fast forward to today and young people in the Upper Neath Valleys don’t have to run away to join the circus. Organised Kaos comes to them.
Kaos stands for “keeping adolescents off the streets” and that’s what they do. I first met them on The Passion (riding BMXs through fire – them, not me) and now Mab Gwalia has helped fund their work.
Manics band drum up £15,000 for drama study
“Libraries gave us power” – the opening lyrics to Wales’ second national anthem, A Design For Life.
The Manic Street Preachers wrote a version of the song for The Passion, performing it at The Last Supper in the Seaside Social & Labour Club… before being arrested and hauled off stage for the show’s added drama.
The band is working with Mab Gwalia to fund a drama scholarship, providing financial support to students who need it. Since 2021, 11 students have received up to £15,000 each academic year.
We’ve just committed to another three years. The students tell us it gives them a chance to believe. The arts should be for everyone.
Mothers Matter, like my mum and partner Anna
My mum’s going through a tough time as my dad is living with Alzheimer’s. It’s a lot to take. I’m thankful every day for how my partner Anna is with our daughters.
It’s an understatement, but mothers matter. That’s the name of an organisation Mab Gwalia has supported. Mothers Matter helps mums suffering from loneliness and isolation through support, counselling, wellbeing hubs and workshops. Mothers in South Wales don’t have to do it alone.
We give a voice to working class writers
A summer reading recommendation: Only Here, Only Now by Tom Newlands. It’s Cora’s story – a teenage girl with ADHD finding her way through life in the early 90s in post-industrial Scotland. She’ll change the way you think about neurodivergence. It’s an unforgettable debut novel.
Tom was part of A Writing Chance, a project I developed alongside the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, New Writing North and Northumbria University. The Office for National Statistics says nearly half all authors are from the most privileged backgrounds.
So we’re trying to redress that balance. To turn up voices not always heard. Tom was one of the first group – 11 writers who received bursaries and mentoring with industry leaders including regular writer of this column, Ros Wynne-Jones.
You can hear their stories in the BBC Sounds podcast Margins to Mainstream with Michael Sheen. Now, 16 more writers are on board. Think of the stories to come.
My debut at the ‘brilliant Welsh party’
With origins dating from 1176, the National Eisteddfod is Europe’s largest cultural festival. A celebration of Welsh language culture with performances and competitions in everything from composition to cynghanedd (a type of Welsh poetry). And, last weekend, in Pontypridd, I made my debut on the maes (site or field).
My four-year-old daughter now refers to it as “that brilliant Welsh party” which neatly describes the atmosphere. On stage, the actress Sian Phillips said the sounds of words in Welsh “echoed with the language”.
I felt those echoes all day. Spoken in the park by families. Performed by young actors. Sung with emotion by choirs. It was a beautiful thing.
Homeless World Cup a beautiful game
Next month, the Homeless World Cup takes place in Seoul, South Korea. Bringing the tournament to Cardiff in 2019, seeing 500 players with experience of homelessness represent their nation on the football field, was something I’ll never forget.
If you can’t wait until then, watch The Beautiful Game on Netflix. Keep an eye on Callum Scott Howells, a brilliant young Welsh actor who I directed in BBC drama The Way (available on iPlayer).
Nye NHS vision seen on world stage
I’ve spent much of this year playing the man who had the vision and valour to create the National Health Service. Nye was theatre at its most far-reaching.
There were sold-out runs in the National Theatre in London, the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. And cinema screenings were viewed by people all over the world.
On the night we filmed the NT Live screening, NHS workers from around the country were invited to be in the audience. They knew that at that moment, a global audience was learning about our welfare state and the man who was behind it.
My dad came along one night. He was just a little kid when Bevan’s idea became reality. Soon there’ll be very few left who can remember what life was like before the NHS.
Let’s hope it stays that way. Can the new government come up with a progressive policy that inspires a story which packs them in 75 years on? We can but dream.

That Was the Moment || Steve Harrington
Summary: Request - Stevie and reader. Kinda based off jayton and Jill by zane Williams. Basically it’s like a flashback, they are with all their friends and all of sudden dusty asks how they met. Everyone laughs ahah because it was like one day she became such a big part of their lives but they never got the back story... Read Rest Here
A/N: Ahh really enjoyed writing this one. Thank you so much for the request @loving-and-dreaming
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Y/N
Word Count: 3.7k +
TW: Talks of physical abuse, attempted sexual assault.
The last rays of the setting sun cast an orange glow over Hawkins. One of your favorite things about the summer sun in the Midwest of the United States. A few years ago you dreamed of escaping the tiny suffocating city you’d called home for your entire life. Your father was the local preacher who quite literally expected you to be somebody your entirely weren’t. You’d turned out to be the familial disappointment because you couldn’t stand putting on a show. You’d turned out far too buck wild for your overly conservative family that took the Bible far too literally. Almost every weekend resulted in you pissing off your father which in turn stressed your disgustingly passive mother out. He’d end up screaming some insufferable fucking Bible passage at you as you ran to whatever friend’s house would have you for the night.
But then you met Steve. He changed everything for you. No longer did you want to run away. You’d found your person so suddenly and out of the blue it struck you like no other. You never got along with you father, no. But you’d toned it down for everybody’s sake. It wasn’t possible to continue living with such hostility.
You felt a hand snake around your waist before pulling you close. Steve. Your guy. The one that had quite literally saved you from yourself. You’d know it from the way he smelled. Oh, so damn good.
“Sweetheart.” His lips lazily mumbled one of the many pet names he loved to use. You felt a chill run down your spine as his lips brushed over your forehead.
Your arms naturally wrapped right around him as he pulled you into him, “Hi Stevie.” You grinned into his chest. He just made you feel so safe and secure in his embrace. So loved and adored. Like nothing you’d ever experienced in your time here. Something you knew didn’t come around too often.
“Missed you.” He now had you fully wrapped in his embrace.
You couldn’t help but to smile at that. He was always so damn sweet to you. It’s been nearly two years since the two of you had started dating and he never cooled it. In fact he only seemed to get sweeter as your relationship grew into something serious.
“It’s only been a day Steve.” You giggled not giving a care in the world to the now older teenagers who decided to join the two of you outside. It was a summer tradition now for the last few summers, after everything happened. Joyce and Hopper had the group over for a bonfire the last weekend of August. A sort of way to wrap up the end of the summer. The kids, now teens, were heading into their senior year which blew your mind. As much as you wished these things could continue you knew the kids would move on and grow up. Look at them now.
He huffed pulled you back, “Too long lovie.” He planted a not-so-subtle kiss on your cheeks much to the chagrin of the kids.
“Could get a room or something.” Will grumbled turning away after earning a laugh from Robin who knew better than to say something. She’d gotten used to the affection the two of you loved to share with the other.
“Don’t worry Byers, already got one.” Steve flicked him off. You shook your head showing his arm lightly.
A bunch of groans erupted from the entire group not wanting to dive into that side of your lives, thankfully for you.
“Alright.” You laughed trying to turn the conversation around, “Let’s get this campfire setup before Hopper arrests us or something.” You looked over to El who was nodding eagerly.
“He will. Let’s get to work. It’ll spare us a lecture about how he only ever asks us to do one thing.” She pushed Mike down to where the logs were stored knowing the house like the back of her hand.
Once the campfire was roaring the sun had dipped into its final decent for the night leaving nothing but your group, the cracking fire and the moonlight illuminating the sky. Steve pulled you into his lap not taking no for an answer. He whispered into your ear when you tried to squirm away from him, “You’re heading back to college in a few days. Please let me hold you while I can?” And how could you resist that smile? You couldn’t. That’s how you ended up huddled onto his lap fighting sleep as he rubbed his hand up and down your arm.
You faintly heard the conversation from the group before hearing Dustin speak right to you, “How’d you two meet anyway?” Your eyes looked to him as he pointed between the two of you, “I’ve never heard the story. One day you were just there.” He scrunched his eyebrows as he tried to recall your story.
“I don’t think I’ve heard it either, care to share?” El asked, she too had taken residence on her boyfriend’s lap. A general consensus among the group arose before you turned back to Steve who was nodding along letting you know it was okay with him as long as you were okay with it. See, the two of you didn’t meet under the best of circumstances. You weren’t ashamed of how you met it just wasn’t super conventional so you never went out of your way to share the why.
You gave your boyfriend a quick grin before turning to the group feeling comfortable enough to share, “Sure. It wasn’t under the best circumstances.” You sighed remembering that dark fourth of July night two summers ago, “It all started with an argument between my father and I. He wouldn’t let me go see the out of town preachers son…”
Flashback to the Night You Met Steve
“Dad, come on! He’s already out-front waiting on me! What’s the big deal anyway? He’s your friends son!” You couldn’t believe it. You thought for sure it’d been easy yes, but you were sorely mistaken
He shook his head attempting to block the front door from you. Lucky for you, you’d already beaten him to the handle shimmying out the front door before he could really stop you
“So, help me God Y/N! You will be grounded for the rest of days if you do not get back here right now!” He bellowed as you ran down the front walkway ignoring his threat. You heard him yell something else incoherent before jumping into the truck of the boy who had invited you out, James or something. You didn’t really care. You just wanted out of the suffocating house under your fathers reign. You’d finally come to the realization that nothing would ever make him happy so you might as well start living your own life. Pissing him off one decision at a time.
“Let’s go!” You looked at him urgently wanting him to punch it.
“On it.” He smirked before taking off down the road. You sighed sinking back into the seat. You just wanted out of the damn house one way or another, not really thinking of the repercussions of your own decisions.
It started fun but ended in your worst nightmare. You were buzzing after a few beers provided by the boy whose name you’d already forgotten. He was cute enough. More of an excuse to get the hell away. So, when he hand started running up your thigh and you stopped him abruptly you could recognize that he wasn’t happy. No, you weren’t stupid. He presumed
“No.” You bit out as you scurried away from his touch.
He wasn’t far behind as he grabbed at your lacy sleeve, ripping it clean from your pretty Sunday dress. Oh boy, your mom wouldn’t be too happy with that, “What the fuck Y/N?” He nearly growled as he grabbed at your wrist. That would leave marks you thought as he clamped down not letting you get too far away from him.
“I said no!” Lucky for you he was just as buzzed as you were so he eased up when you started punching at him arm.
“Oh, fuck off you prude bitch.” He let you go after your punched at him, “Ain’t worth it anyway. Find your own way home.” Leaving as fast as you blinked you gulped. Well, this wasn’t good. You weren’t really sure where you were and well you were a little tipsy.
Before you could have a mental fucking breakdown about it all you set off on foot. You felt like you were walking on the old country road for what felt like forever before a pair of headlights landed on you as the vehicle crested the hill in front of you. Your heart rate picked up as you recognized that the vehicle was slowing down to a crawl and a stop right in front of you. A boy you vaguely recognized popped out of the driver’s seat, “What are you doing out here sweetheart?” He must’ve been your age. You recognized him from something, it had to be school. Hawkins High was bigger than it seemed, and you hardly could keep up with your own friends let alone those in other circles.
You backed away slowly, scared like a deer stuck in headlight, “Hey, don’t go. It’s dark and raining. Storms coming right up. By the looks of it, it looks like you need a ride. And lucky for you I have a nice warm jacket and big cozy seat for you to sit in. What do you say?” He shrugged off his leather biker jacket before slowly, oh so damn slowly, walking up to you and placing it on your shoulders.
“Is that a yes? Cause look, there is no way in hell I’ve leaving you out here.” He spoke once more not really giving you an option anymore.
You hummed, “Yeah, okay.” Nodding your head, you looked away, almost ashamed for such a handsome boy to see you in such a state. And that was the moment you met the love of your life. You didn’t know it then, no. But what a moment. So simple and small that changed the trajectory of your seemingly crumbling life.
“You’re Y/N right? Y/N Willows, the pastor’s daughter?” He asked once you buckled in next to him. He was oh so patient with you.
A quick nod of your head as you looked down and away from him, “Yeah. That’s my father.” You didn’t mean for it to so bitter coming out of your mouth, but you couldn’t really help it. You weren’t your fathers biggest fan these days anyway.
“Ouch.” He tried lightening the mood sensing your discomfort in the whole situation.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know your name.” You whispered out grimacing at your own timidness. You hadn’t a clue why this guy was helping you out and the guilt of wasting his own time was starting to set in.
He gave you a soft smile even though you couldn’t see it. He knew something was up when he saw a pretty girl walking alone in the rain late on the Fourth of July. His heart nearly shattered when he saw your torn dress, roughed up hair and bruises littering one of your arms. He recognized you immediately. You were a grade below him in high school, but he knew exactly who you were. He’d taken an eye to you but quickly shut it down when he realized who your dad was. He never stood a chance and didn’t want to deal with impressing somebody like that. He couldn’t. He’d never be good enough. So shamefully he never tried.
“Steve. Steve Harrington.”
It clicked for you. The it guy who dated Nancy, one of your older sisters best friends. You’d heard about him through the gossip you’d soaked up second hand.
You finally looked up to him knowing you’d have to get it over with one way or another, “Nice to meet you Steve. Thanks for the ride.”
He nodded giving you a gentle smile, “Anytime. Can’t have a beautiful girl wandering the streets alone. Especially when it’s raining. You’ll catch a cold.” He said so casually you weren’t sure if you had heard him right or not.
You blinked at him for a few moments before continuing. It was hard to make out all the features on his face in such darkness on the road, “Do you know where you’re going?” You asked him not sure where he was planning on taking you.
“Do you want to go home?” He asked you back all too curious as to what your answer would be.
You shook your head softly, “No, not really. My father will skin me alive if he sees me like this.” Letting out a defeated sigh you let his jacket swallow you whole as you leaned back into the seat fully.
“How about this then? Let’s head to Jenny’s, the all-night diner, order some pie or something and get you cleaned up?” He offered up acting like it was no big deal. Like you taking up his entire night was fine.
“Oh no, I couldn’t burden you like that Steve. Already saved my ass back there.” You smiled over to him.
“It’s no big deal really. It’ll be a nice distraction actually.” He hummed hoping you’d take him up on the offer. He needed it. A conversation with a friendly face. Even if he hasn’t spoken you directly before he knew how kind you were. He’d heard about you. He knew you were rebelling. Breaking out of the mold your dad had crafted so finely for you. It was a pleasure to watch but it seemed as though you’d gotten yourself into a bad situation tonight. It made his heart clench as the thought of somebody laying a hand on you let alone enough to leave marks.
“Really?” You asked hopefully. You really didn’t want to go home yet. It was far too early, and your family would still be up. You couldn’t take the questioning that was sure to commence from your appearance.
“It’d be my pleasure sweetheart.” He grinned before heading off to Jenny’s.
Once you got there he held the door open for you and got your chair. You removed the jacked, leaving it on the back of your chair completely forgetting about the nice marks the boy had left you.
If he was trying to impress you it was certainly working. He was being ever the gentleman It was when you finally turned you got a good look at him. He was handsome as hell. Way more handsome than you remembered or could recall. No wonder Nancy was so head over heels for him at one point.
“What’re you looking to distract yourself from Steve?” You asked going for it.
He stifled a laugh as he too studied your face. He couldn’t see any bruises forming there, thank God but it still didn’t stop the sad look as he noticed the bruises on your arms darkening.
“You didn’t come to play? Did you?” He laughed once more while leaning forward in his chair, “To answer your question though, life I suppose.”
“No, I suppose I don’t. Life?” You tilted your head in curiosity to his statement.
He bit his lip without noticing, “Yeah. I’m working a dead-end job. Have no idea what I want to with my life. My parents won’t stop hounding me about it. I just… I don’t know.” He sighed in frustration while stirring the coffee he had ordered.
You grabbed at his hand without much hesitation. You wanted to comfort him, that was you. Ever the empathetic one, “Well you only just graduated right? With my sister and her friends? She doesn’t know what she wants to do either! Don’t beat yourself up about okay. Parents can be tough, but they just want the best for you.” You tried to remind yourself as well. Your dad was still your father and he too wanted what he thought was best for you even though you vehemently disagreed with him.
He grinned as you rubbed the back of his hand with your thumb absentmindedly, “I know you’re right.” He nodded feeling his control being taken over by you, “What about you? What are you running from?” He asked brazenly feeling the confidence you just had.
A huff left your lips, “A dumb boy who wouldn’t say no.”
His eyes quickly scanned your body once more for more serious injuries before he spoke once more, “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” It wasn’t a lie. You were fine. You’d be fine. You had to be.
He didn’t seem satisfied with your answer, “Doesn’t seem like it sweetheart.”
“You keep calling me that?” You weren’t sure what you were getting at. You weren’t terribly experienced in the relationship arena. You’d been on dates here and there and had a boyfriend for a few months, but you’d never done anything serious. Anything that led to more than regular surface level conversations.
“What? Sweetheart? I can stop…” His wide eyes relaxed a bit when he saw you shaking your head in slight panic.
“No.” You interrupted him. That’s definitely not what you were trying to get at. You liked it. Much more than you probably should have.
“Alright, sweetheart it is. If you’re okay with it?”
“I’m okay with it.” You nodded in confirmation suddenly feeling hot with his eyes boring holes right into your own. He was so damn handsome it wasn’t fair. And you were sure you surely weren’t looking your Sunday best. Especially not walking around in the rain.
He grinned, not being able to hide it. Not wanting to hide it really. It was something about you that just made him a little giddy. Happier than he’d been in a long while, “I like you Y/N. I like you a lot.” And suddenly you wished you were back in the dark of his car so the night sky could hide the radiance of the blush that now coated your cheeks.
The hours slowly ticked by as the two of you chatted about anything and everything. The waitress just kept coming over and filling up both your draining coffee cups from time to time. The two of you seemingly got lost in the free-flowing conversation going on so easily. It was rare that you felt so free with somebody so quickly.
Your eyes peaked up at the clock over the kitchen doorway and widened as you saw it approaching six am, “Steve, it’s almost morning.”
“There’s no way.” He laughed before turning around and seeing the sun beginning it’s slow ascent for the day, “Well damn, I guess there is a way.”
“I still don’t want to go home.” You groaned while leaning back in your seat, “You’re far too interesting of a person Steve Harrington.”
“Well, I’ll tell you what. I’ll pick you up tonight and take you on a proper date. We can continue talking about all of our hopes and dreams.” His eyes lit up waiting on your response. He was hopeful. Far more hopeful than he’d been in a long time. Suddenly, his life didn’t feel so dim. It felt like there was a new purpose to it. You’d been placed along that country dirt road last night to pull him out of the fog he’d been in for a little too long. He needed you just as much as you needed him that night.
You nodded quickly, following him out of the diner after wrapping yourself right back into his warm jacket and followed him right back into his car, “That sounds like a wonderful plan Mr. Harrington.”
“Wear your second finest Sunday dress Miss Willows.” He tried to make light of the situation. His car rolled to a stop far too quickly in front of your house.
“Thanks again Steve.” You gave his hand a quick squeeze before getting out.
“I’ll see you tonight pretty girl.” He shot you a wink waiting for you to get back into your house. He didn’t dare leave until he knew you were safe and secure. Just one of the many, many things that made you fall in love with your favorite guy.
“So yeah.” You hummed before giving your boyfriend a quick kiss, “That’s how we met.
There was a twinkle in Nancy’s eyes as she spoke up, “That’s romantic as hell. Did not know you had it in you Steve.” She teased him earning a few laughs from the collective group.
“You want to press charges Willows? I know who that boy is, shouldn’t be causing trouble in this town.” Hopper grumbled clearly most annoyed with that in the story.
You shook your head, “No, it’s alright. More trouble than it’s worth.”
He sunk back into his seat, “If you say so.”
“Anyway,” El spoke up once more, “That’s adorable. Really, it’s like you found your person that night.”
You beamed over to your younger friend, “You can say that again.” You didn’t wait any longer to lean back and kiss your boyfriend once more. Even though you met under the worst of circumstances you wouldn’t dream of changing a thing. He was by far and away the best thing that’d ever happened to you.

can you do wildest dreams x rafe PLSS🥹🥹🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
Her Wildest Dream
Pairing: Rafe Cameron x Reader
Warnings: Mention of Robbery and Getting Arrested
Pronouns: She/Her
Word Count: 0.6K
Masterlist
Y/N sits on the curb in the dark of the night. She snuck out of the house five minutes ago and is not waiting for Rafe to pick her up from the convenience store she is waiting at so that her parents don’t hear his bike. The rev of an engine causes her to dart to her feet in anticipation of her boyfriend. She thinks nothing of the distant sirens that sound throughout the night. How could her perfect man have anything to do with it? He slows in front of her and takes his helmet off with a shake of his hair. He grins at her, beckoning her to approach with a finger. She rushes over to him and flings her arms around his neck to kiss him. His arms slide to her waist, pulling her flush to his chest. “Come on, Princess. Let's get out of this town. Drive out of the city, away from the crowd,” he whispers, settling his helmet onto her head. She nods and giggles as he flicks the visor down. Her arms circle his waist while she swings her legs onto the motorcycle, resting the balls of her feet onto the pegs. Without warning, he drives off and she knows what to do already. Her arms grip against him and she leans into each turn with him.
They get to the beach farthest from civilization and lie down on the sand together. She talks to him for hours about every little thing that has happened to her since they last saw each other. Rafe listens to her like she is telling him the secret to eternal life. She wishes he would show this side of him to more people, then they wouldn’t think he is so bad. She doesn’t notice his apprehension. He’s good at hiding it. He would rather die than let her know that the cops were looking for him because he tried robbing a bank. But he needed that money for them. His father cut him off, so he needed the money to take her away from there. They could get away from the Outer Banks and be together. Without any labels from everyone around.
This is probably going to be the last time they see each other again. He could’ve taken her far away, trying to run from the police. However, that isn’t the memory he wants of her. He wants to remember her, standing on the beach in her favourite dress. Her eyes observe the sunrise with her hair in the wind and the breeze nipping at her nose. As the sirens approach, he joins her at her side. She turns to him in confusion. He can’t put into words what is about to happen next, so he decides to save her the trouble of seeing the scene. He kisses her lips and then her forehead, backing away at the sight of her frowned eyebrows. Shouppe gets out of the car with his gun raised and watches as Rafe makes his way over with his hands up. “I’ll go with you, just promise me she won’t see anything and that you’ll get her home safely. Please,” Rafe begs, turning at Shouppe’s nod so the cuffs can be put on him. He catches one last glance at his princess to find her staring as the sun sets on their relationship.
———
She knew that this story didn’t have a happy ending. She is the preacher’s daughter. An innocent vision and a good role model that every parent wants their daughter to turn out like. He is the notorious bad boy. A walking red flag that every parent warns their daughter against. But Y/N was always a little naive, thinking she could help him change. And it worked. But this story was just supposed to be her wildest dream.

The Not-Blogtober That Haunts Us
If you were born in the 1980s, then you are likely to be part of a whole generation of viewers who were lulled into a false sense of security by the newly-minted PG-13 rating and subsequently scarred for life by the Preacher Kane in POLTERGEIST 2: THE OTHER SIDE. The guy is so iconic that I must have assumed he was somehow real, because it took me years to finally look up anything about Julian Beck. As it turns out there is a lot to know about Julian Beck! I didn't even get every single one of the highlights into this piece, but I suppose anybody who reads it can find out more for themselves:
Beck was the co-founder of The Living Theatre, a revolutionary performance group who got themselves arrested everywhere they went. The more I learned about Beck, the more surprising I found it that he had any relationship with Hollywood at all, however brief. But actually there were a number of political dissidents in POLTERGEIST 2, including Native American activist Will Sampson and Zelda Rubinstein, who was outspoken about the AIDS crisis early on. I wonder if you could somehow count stuntman Noble Craig, who lost three limbs in Vietnam and who you have probably seen in a number of horror roles including POLTERGEIST 2's "Vomit Creature". I have a whole tee shirt of him!
