Alya remembered seeing in the description of that fic that it was written back when Adrien was 16. "You know, I read it and I don't think it was for me," she lied—Alya hadn't read it at all past the posting date. "Have you ever considered..."

"Gosh, you're right, I should ask him what he thinks!" Marinette squealed. "I bet I could read all of them to him, and he'd be like 'That's so hot, Marinette', and then I'd be like 'I know, right', and then he'd be like 'We should do that, babygirl', and then I'd be like—" She let out another long high-pitched squeal, kicking her feet as she rolled across her bed. "And it'd be perfect!"

Alya considered hanging up. But that wasn't what friends did to each other, unfortunately. Nor employees to their buggy employer.

Finished Order of the Phoenix today ❤️

Took me while, I started it at the beginning of February, didn't go very far, dropped it for six weeks roughly and then picked it up again last week, to finish it today.

And what a ride it was ❤️ Goblet of Fire is my favorite but Order of the Phoenix is close behind. It expands so much on the wizarding world as a whole, the society, the people, the careers, the law system... and life at Hogwarts too, we see more "after-school" activities that aren't Quidditch (considering Harry is out of the team for a good chunk of the book). Ron really blooms in that book too, the movies did him so dirty, it pisses me off more and more with each book I'm re-reading.

And it's really interesting how Rowling tackled the medias in that book, the treatment of Harry and Dumbledore, when you compare with the way she has been treated for the past few years... Although, I suppose it was influenced by what was happening after Goblet of Fire's release, but still, it's impressive.

We're full on young adult literature here. Well, I've always found that category a bit weird, because imo when you're 15 you can read 'adult' literature just fine (the classics! and everything else, you don't have to stick to stuff that's written purposely for younger minds), so the classification of 'YA' remains strange for me, but w/e

And once again, it strikes me how different fanfics are compared to the Wizarding World, it's like a pale copy in fanfics? Which makes sense I suppose, I think lots of people are writing based on the movies and/or haven't re-read the actual books in years, but have been consuming fanfics a lot.

Now, if Rowling every decides to write again for the Potter-universe, I would like if she wrote a thriller of some kind set during Grindelwald's rise to power & his fall at Dumbledore's wand... that would be nice. Very interesting, too.

Slowly re-reading the Harry Potter books that I haven't opened in a decade, and oh boy, that's my childhood right there 😭

Este es el asunto. Necesito un lugar donde expresar mi nivel de preocupación por la falta de recursos en español sobre como escribir... cosas xD algo, lo que sea.

Pero especialmente fanfics! Estoy sumamente preocupada por la gente que ama una serie animada, una pelicula, un libro o *inserte su forma de consumo de contenido favorita* y QUIERE escribir un fanfic, pero... no sabe por donde empezar.

Esto es serio para mi. Porque yo en esas ando.

Desde que era pequeña, he sentido un amor profundo por las historias de fantasía y romance. Harry Potter fue la primera serie que me hizo conocer la palabra fanfic y la primera serie que despertó este nivel de interés y amor como para querer dar una contribución al fandom.

Tristemente, eso nunca ocurrió. Tenia trece y solo me dedique a leer fanfics en Potterfics con el tag de Severus Snape/OC y nunca escribi mas que un par de capítulos inconexos para ese fandom.

Luego, unos años mas tarde, volví a enamorarme de otra serie: Danny Fenton y volví a imaginar esta gran historia a la que escribí la gran cantidad de once capítulos (otra vez) descontinuos que nunca tomaron forma.

Luego, un tiempo después vi Kim Possible y (oh, sorpresa) como era ya un habito con todas las serie que me gustaban, me lance a internet a buscar fanfics.

Fue en ese tiempo (mas o menos cuanto tenia 18 o 19) que comenzaba a leer fanfics en ingles por la falta de contenido en español.

Desde ese momento, comprendí que si quería encontrar "buen material" tenía que buscarlo en inglés.

I don't understand in which moment things changed of maybe I've been getting all this wrong from the beginning, but see I have grown up in fandom spaces. I learned to read in my old phone, reading hp fanfiction in something called potterfics.

Once I started using ao3 (after going through ffn and wattpad when it was mostly fanfiction and dms didn't exist), I never thought about the number of kudos or comments on a fic until I read that post. Usually, I choose what to read based on vibes, the summary and in the main tags or i use filters if I'm going for something in particular about a pairing.

I never checked the numbers until god's forsaken April 2024, and still it didn't make s change in my mind.

I struggle to understand why people would rely on the numbers, I mean, maybe it's because I know the one and half million of circumstances that can explain why the ratios they talk about are not always reliable, but still

Did I miss this? Is this something people in fandoms do commonly?

actually that ao3 post about calculating kudos-to-hits ratios to decide if a fic is worth reading has me so pissed off. someone put real time and energy into something they are SHARING WITH YOU FOR FREE on a site where you can quite literally filter and search by anything you want and you're STILL trying to find a foolproof method to find stuff that's "good enough to read"???

Okay, now for my own jumpscare, Baby Strabismus-riddled portrait:

Hmm...you could be onto something.

But I was never a mouth breather. I always kept my mouth closed, unless I was smiling/laughing (rare...I was also not a crier/screamer because all of that just hurt my head and throat...I grew up not being able to girly scream/screech because of that). You won't find any baby pics of me with my mouth like Collins's above. // Also LOL I had pretty long ears. I remember my mother saying that I was a Buddha baby. But I got my ears from my paternal grandma. 💀

Sorry for the poor quality photo, but it's from a poor scan of my high school yearbook that can be found online, and I ran it through AI to try and fix its pixelation (it worked, for the most part).

That pic was the one I may have described here before. I'd wanted to find the full color version of it, which I have on an external drive...somewhere. My onesie is baby blue (ha ha...I dunno if my mother or father were thinking in gendered colors, but I rarely wore pink... there's a photo of me manhandling a kitten — same age as I was in the first photo above — and my sundress is blue/white/yellow). But I do remember it being taken. My father kept trying to get my attention, but I didn't wanna. I just wanted to 'read' my comics section (since I was the one who crawled over to the pile and did that/opened it up like that...parents flipped out about it, father rushed to get his camera, etc.).

I was born with that full head of black hair and still freaking have it. I curse because I turn 50 in less than 24 hours and I have hardly any indication that I've aged (the grey hairs are stray and not always easy to find). I don't even have any wrinkles, unless you count the deepening of the furrow between my brows from being pissy or in pain all the time. The only thing I can see in my face is a loss of fat volume in my cheeks near my ears (but not enough to cause anything to sag... I won't get that kind of saggy unless I reach 75 like my mother). That just brings out my cheekbones. Maybe I should get fillers 💅🏼 LOL j/k I would never.

Anyway. I don't think I have any more baby pics here (they're all back in New England). I do have a couple of me as an older, sullen child with braids who played the cello. (No, I'm not joking...I had braids and played the freaking cello in grade school...upon getting to middle school I traded in the heavy thing for an alto saxophone, which I loved.)

Unfortunately, my cello wasn't black. ☹️

I'm feeling quite sad because the website where I first started reading fanfiction has officially closed today. This was the beginning of something that has become an essential part of my life as a fangirl, and it's quite depressing to see it go. Worse than that might be that, because Potterfics (the website) was for Spanish speakers, it's not likely that I will find many people in the Internet who even know of it.

I don't normally make my own posts here, but Potterfics was a huge part of my life when I first started getting into fandoms, and a part of me thought it would always be there whenever I wanted to revisit a story I read maybe years ago (and I'm talking years, people) which I remembered fondly.

I honestly think that, for those of us Spanish speakers, Potterfics may have been the source of many favourite works. Some works were products of their time, it's true, but they were excellent reading material when I read them at the time, and they made me laugh, and cry, and squeal into my pillow so my mom wouldn't realise it was the middle of the night and I was still on the phone or the computer.

Maybe I'm being a tad dramatic, but for me it feels like an end of an era. Like that little kid I was, the one who loved reading books and didn't know she could share thoughts and headcanons about the different characters with people on the Internet, is being left behind. It honestly feels like some part of me is gone forever.

That doesn't mean, of course, that I don't appreciate Fanfiction.net or Ao3, because God knows their tagging system is way better and you are more likely to find betaed and proofread stories there. The quality is better, but there was a feeling of coming back home whenever I recalled a scene from a fic I had read more than ten years ago and I went back to check it out one more time.

I'll always remember some of the stories I read on that site fondly, even if the details get hazy. And I know I'll never find them again anywhere else, because (as I said) the site was never as known or popular as Ao3 or Fanfiction.net.

I hope at least someone out there feels a little sad about this, so that I don't feel so alone in my melancholic pain.

I wanna say I first started PROPERLY reading at 14-ish, but it could have been earlier, my memories of that age are pretty jumblemeshed. It was definitely a ton of Potterfic on the wide spread of weird individualized sites back then: Astronomy Tower, Riddikulus, etc. Some FF.net as well. But I think I might have gotten into some Sonic stuff even earlier? It's hard to separate fanfic memories from Archie Comics reality tho. :V
