15 fics with Harry pursuing unusual careers
I love the adrenaline and potential angst within the Auror partners trope as much as the next guy, but we can all agree that our mental health improves 10 times when we see Harry leaving the Ministry, embracing other possibilities and making his own destiny. This rec list hopes to celebrate those creative, disruptive, feel-good fics that are not afraid to come up with the most absurd positions and original job titles. They can be fun, smutty, depressing, hopeful or cathartic; there’s a little bit of everything in here and I’m hoping to bring some hidden gems into everyone’s radar, too. Happy readings!
Twisted Wizards by Enchanted_Jae (T, 3k)
Draco is just putting his life back together when Potter comes along and mucks it all up again. Job: storm chaser
The R. Correspondence by noeon (T, 7.5k)
While working on the Bagshot papers, Draco makes an important discovery for British Wizarding History. Now if only Harry can keep him alive long enough to enjoy it. Job: private security consultant
Per my last letter (I hope you choke on it) by @fluxweeed and @lastontheboat (T, 10k)
Or: the one where Harry has writer’s block and Malfoy isn’t helping. Job: writer
Home County, orphaned (G, 10k)
Harry is an architect and the reluctant part-owner of his own firm. Malfoy works at The Ministry but doesn’t actually have a proper job title even though what he does sounds as though it’s pretty important. Job: architect
A Working Title by mindabbles (E, 12k)
Another in the long line of absurd biographies finally drives Harry to a desperate act. How desperate he doesn't know until his ghost writer shows up at his door. Job: Daily Prophet columnist
An Improbable Bout of Summer Madness by acari (E, 16k)
Draco had planned a quiet, peaceful summer holiday with his son. The last thing he expected was to find Potter here, in Draco's little Cornish retreat. Making fudge in a shop? The idea was too ludicrous for words. Job: fudge shop owner
The Strongest Affinity by @eidheann (T, 17k)
Trouble finding a wand for Scorpius leads Harry and Draco to something they never imagined. Job: wandmaker
Phoenix Repair Services by carpemermaid (E, 20k)
Draco hires a suspiciously private wizarding handyman to fix his kitchen when he returns home to find it destroyed. He expects a middle-aged wizard with greying hair and a pudgy gut to show up. Instead, he gets Harry Potter—with a utility belt and a charming smile—who is more attractive than he has any right to be. Job: Handyman
The Snitch-Maker by Omi_Ohmy (T, 21k)
Draco is content with his Snitches, with the tap tap tap of his hammer, and the tiny gears and sharp scent of metal in his workshop - until one day Harry Potter appears, asking for help to solve a rash of Snitch-tampering in the Quidditch world. Job: QUABBLE official (Quidditch representative)
Silhouettes in Sunsets by Pie (T, 22k)
Draco Malfoy was a Gringotts accountant by day and a luthier by night, making musical instruments that sang the language of the player’s heart, language audible only to the ears of his soul mate. Harry Potter was a struggling quill pal to the children of war and the owner of Hedwig’s Owl Emporium on Diagon—haven for future pets, owls retired from services and orphaned chicks. Job: Owl Emporium owner
Better To Burn Than To Fade Away by Ren (E, 23k)
Harry Potter is a legend in the world of broomstick racing. He's won almost every cup, trophy, and bowl – except for the historical London-Nome which has been on hiatus for the past several years. Now the London-Nome is starting again, and Harry will do anything to pull off one last big win. Job: broomstick racer
Doing the Lambeth Walk by @blamebrampton (T, 26k)
There are only three traditional choices for the cashed-up hero after victory. Harry Potter is too young to settle down and provide the wizarding world with a happy ending, and has too acute a sense of humour to spiral downwards into a spectacular flame-out. That leaves a life of good works. Job: Owner of a Social Housing and Care Centre
All Roads by @korlaena (M, 36k)
Draco hates his job at the Prophet. He hates it even more when he’s assigned to write an article on Harry Potter, who left the country three years ago after their falling out. Draco doesn’t want to face the truth about himself, but he’s stuck between Harry and his duty, and he’s out of options. Job: Magizoologist
Whimsical by strawberryrose (T, 42k)
In which Draco is completely out of his depth (until he isn’t), Harry builds something improbable with the help of his friends, and everyone bonds over food. Job: amusement park owner
What Shall Not Be Unearthed by @iero0 (E, 49k)
At the northernmost point of Shetland, surrounded by pointed cliffs, towers the Ootsta Lighthouse on a small isle in the middle of the open sea. Little does Harry know that he's not the only new lighthouse keeper. Draco Malfoy is as obnoxious as he always was, with his posh tone of voice and his luxury yacht jumpers. Job: lighthouse keeper

Could you elaborate further on your opinion of Cursed Child? What do you think of Delphini's existence? I personally really like its concept but not the way it was worked on
Delphi could have worked. She could have. I haven't seen the play performed, but the character on the page is interesting. She introduces herself to two lonely kids as a cool older sister type (kinda Tonks adjacent) but from the word go you (the adult viewer) is picking up on the fact that... there's something kind of off about her, something that the the fifteen-year-olds aren't noticing. There's some good tension there.
But, okay. If you're going to build a mystery out of "Who is Delphi Diggory really, and what does she actually want?' it needs to have a cool solution that's set up, that makes sense within the world of the story.
You're also fighting against THE fanfic trope of all fanfic tropes: two of the main characters had a previously unmentioned child who is cool, has blue-and-silver hair, and who all the main characters really like. Also, you've got to somehow deal with the fact that canon Voldemort is never characterized as someone who would ever *want* to have sex with Bellatrix.
Like, I'm sure there's some fantastic Tom fanfic out there, but Voldemort's whole metaphor is that his body isn't *him* - he's doing everything he can to move beyond it, to separate from it, change it into something that is longer *human* (and therefore mortal, and weak.) I seriously doubt he's using his body for recreation. Voldemort also seems the type to actively not want an heir: he thinks highly enough of himself that any offspring would be a potential threat, and obviously he's going to live forever. And if he ever were going to sleep with someone, Bellatrix? She's obsessed with him, and he's occasionally throwing her a crumb of attention, so she becomes even more fanatical and devoted. Letting her have his kid is giving her what she wants, it's making her more powerful. That's not a good tactical move, and Tom's too much of a sadist to throw her a bone out of pity.
Here's what I would have done. Use that detail that Delphi was a very sickly child, so sick that she couldn't go to Hogwarts. I know the deal was really that she was being hidden, but lean into it. Make it that she's the result of some spell that Bellatrix did with some of Voldemort's fingernails and maybe the horcrux that she had in her possession for a while. Delphi can be the result of magical experimentation, that almost makes her *more* of Voldemort's daughter. It also feeds into her doomed, desperate quest to get him to acknowledge her - she could legitimately think 'the only problem is that he never knew about me, if he did he would love me.' This is also the sort of reckless, desperate thing I can see Bellatrix doing, and it sets up the theme of magical experimentation (ie - Theo's extra special time turner) way better than the Scorpius thing.
Because honestly, the Scorpius thing bugs me more than the Delphi thing. In Cursed Child, the reason Scorpius Malfoy is kind of a pariah is that there's a persistent rumor that he's actually Voldemort's son because his mother travelled back in time to conceive him. I know it's there to introduce the possibility of Voldemort having a kid, period, and to make the Delphi thing look more plausible by comparison... but come on. This rumor is brought up so much during the first part of the play, it's how we're introduced to Scorpius AND how we're introduced to the conflict between Draco and Harry... and it just doesn't sell me on the world we're in. Let's run through the logic/worldbuilding problems real quick:
Why would anyone think Draco wouldn't be able to have kids? Where's that coming from? If anything the rumor should be that Astoria can't have/doesn't want to have kids because of the blood curse, and that Scorpius' real mother is Alecto Carrow or something creepy like that.
Scorpius looks exactly like Draco, so why would anyone think he wasn't Draco's son? I know that's something they were locked into, and they couldn't give Scorpius dark hair because Scorpius is described as looking exactly like Draco in the Epilogue, but maybe that's a sign that they shouldn't have gone with this particular plot line.
The new variety of Time Turner works differently than the ones we're familiar with (you can go years into the past, but only for five minutes, and you can change outcomes...) and they just BARELY work in universe... so long as they stay really rare, no one knows about them, and they're just a result of Theodore Nott experimenting in his basement. Which is honestly how the play treats them... EXCEPT for the Scorpius rumor. The Scorpius rumor means that either this kind of time turner is common enough that everyone knows about it (which is completely universe breaking, it would change EVERY THING) (and also has the additional, very funny implication that when Astoria traveled back in time to get pregnant, Voldemort only lasted five minutes. Because you can only stay in the past five minutes.) OR it means that people are accusing Astoria of going back in time and sleeping with Voldemort... without any idea of how she could potentially even have done that.
This whole thing is so unnecessary. Make it so that people are giving Scorpius a hard time because his father was a Death Eater. Done.
If you want to set up Delphi's backstory, easy. Just make Bellatrix a character. It is baffling that she is literally brought up once in this entire play. We have flashbacks, we have long scenes with talking portraits, we have alternate universes - including one where Voldemort won, and Bellatrix is presumably alive and doing fine. Just stick her in one of those.
I know the ask wasn't really about this, but the Scorpius thing is just one example of worldbuilding that legitimately makes this play hard to understand. If the details of this Astoria/Voldemort rumor don't make sense, then I don't know if I'm supposed to agree with Harry (who thinks this is a ridiculous rumor that will blow over given time) or Draco (who thinks it's a harmful, persistent rumor that he needs to do something about.) The first time I read the play I thought it was supposed to be kind of ambiguous that Delphi was 100% Voldemort's daughter... like maybe Bellatrix had done something magical, or maybe she cheated on Rodolphus with some rando, and he was just telling himself (and the little girl he's raising) this particular story in order to save his own pride. I mean we know these characters and this world pretty well at this point. It's no wonder that so many fans got alienated by what sort of feels like a... lack of attention.

HD longer fics recs : 70k to 80k words
Here are a few recs for fics ranging between 90k and 100k words.
You can see my recs for fics that have more than 200k here, between 150k and 200k here, between 125k and 150k here, between 100k and 125k here and between 90k and 100k here.
Breathe Me by @kedavranox [73k]
Since the singular incident of being a Horcrux for many years has left Harry with a sensitivity to Dark magic, Harry begins training with Jacob, a Wizard who lives in New York, using this sensitivity to his advantage to cleanse magical spaces of Dark magic. After a year of training, Draco Malfoy shows up, wanting to learn from Jacob as well, and unexpectedly the two men grow a bond, both magical and physical. But Jacob’s sudden death leaves Harry floundering and growing increasingly dependent on drugs and sex to avoid his problems. After his brief and tumultuous affair with Draco ends, Harry begins a life of travel, avoiding returning home permanently and continuing his drug habit. He flits from job to job, from place to place, never settling down for a moment, until, years later, Harry is called back to England by his friends to help Draco find his way out of a cursed Manor.
Choices of the Heart by Naadi [78k]
Immediately after defeating Voldemort, Harry begins to have strange dreams, dreams that pull him once more into the realm of the newly dead. At first, the dreams are only a curious mystery, and Harry sets about putting his life back in order after the war. But when Harry dreams of Narcissa Malfoy, his life suddenly goes in a much different direction than the one he’d always imagined.
The Claiming of Grimmauld Place by @bixgirl1 [74k]
When Grimmauld Place begins fighting against Harry’s ownership of it, he decides he needs help to train the historic home — but little does he expect that it’ll be Malfoy who’s most suitable for the challenge. However, as Malfoy and Harry get closer, Harry comes to understand that expectations aren’t always the best path by which to guide his heart — and in the process learns just what is needed to make a house a home.
Crown Witness by @slytherco [70k]
After the war, wizarding society is oppressed by a new kind of plague—an organised crime group calling itself the Family. When Harry Potter goes to interrogate a potential witness, he doesn’t expect to end up on the run again, trying to keep Draco Malfoy alive, while a manhunt follows in their footsteps, adamant on eliminating the one witness that could ruin everything. In which Harry and Draco learn that the way to each other might just have to go through the dingiest hotels in Britain.
Faerie Felicities by @quackquackcey  [79k]
Draco dies and wakes up to the emerald drapes of the Slytherin dormitory at the end of 5th year. Thus ensues new possibilities, new choices, a new life, and a new romance(?) Featuring fluffy shenanigans, lots of baking, and a hopefully not-so-bad war (fingers crossed). Or in other words, a somewhat Christmassy canon rewrite fic.
From the Sea by wantsunicorns [78k]
Scorpius Malfoy has never been one to leave stones unturned in his quest for adventure, and he’s not about to start when it comes to finding a cure for his father’s mysterious illness. Albus Potter has his work cut out for him, making sure Scorpius doesn’t get himself killed or drive Albus around the bend. – A tale of adventure and civilisations long forgotten, where not everything is quite as is seems.
Headlights in the Snow by Saras_Girl [71k]
What’s big and purple and smells like tea? Harry is about to find out. Advent fic 2016.
Heartlines by @shiftylinguini [72k]
Harry never expected he’d end up chipping away at his virginity while wandless and bonded to Malfoy in Northern Europe. He never expected that would turn out to be the least surprising thing to happen while out on their training expedition in the middle of nowhere, either.
Kept in Cages by @sweet-s0rr0w [76k]
Deep in the heart of the Ministry lies the Beast Division: a hidden room where ancient beasts roam, and winged creatures soar, and grumpy giant ferrets eat all your biscuits unless you keep them well hidden. Draco Malfoy would know – he’s been working there for five years now, after all. Meanwhile, on Level One, ex-Golden Boy Harry Potter is stuck in another interminable policy meeting, completely unaware of the mysterious comings and goings just three floors below. But when a giant snake emergency requires the assistance of a Parselmouth, Harry finds himself thrust, unprepared, into Draco’s weird and wonderful world – and naturally, he can’t keep away…
Manticoria by @lol-zeitgeistic [70k]
In the dangerous days after Voldemort’s fall, Harry struggles to find a way to be with Draco—again. But as the magical world threatens to die all around them, it might be more difficult than he thought. Includes dying wards, dying beasts, and love struggling to live; sentient magic, wandlore, Founder lore, potion lore, and ward lore; and of course there is Zacharias Smith to ruin everything, as usual.
Monster by shushu_yaoi_lj / @orange-peony [71k]
“Hmm,” Hermione hums, tapping her index finger against her bottom lip and then smiling at Harry. “A broken music box, you say…” “A cursed one,” Harry corrects her. “Well, it’s still a music box that is not working properly,” Hermione points out with a very intent grin. “That will give you a chance to see him.” She wiggles her eyebrows, making him snort. As if Harry hadn’t thought about it straight away. As if Harry’s mind hadn’t immediately wandered to Draco Malfoy the moment Zabini mentioned a music box.
Now My Neck Is Open Wide (begging for a fist around it) by LadySlytherin [75k]
Six months post-war, Harry meets Grayson Wenke, a famous Quidditch player. Harry believes he’s found the love of his life, and a Happily Ever After ending suitable for the storybooks. When Grayson slowly goes from Prince Charming to a monster behind closed doors, Harry finds himself trapped, and alone, and fearing for his life. When Harry realizes he’s pregnant, the opportunity for escape - and a real Happily Ever After - presents itself as none other than Draco Malfoy. The only question is if Harry is brave enough to take a chance, and strong enough to heal.
Right Hand Red by @lqtraintracks [73k]
Harry felt Malfoy’s breath on his lips as they came together over the bottle, hands firmly planted on the floor as though they each needed their familiar soil, refusing to cross into enemy territory. Except that Malfoy no longer felt like his enemy. Malfoy felt inevitable.
Tea and No Sympathy by who_la_hoop [70k]
It’s Potter’s fault, of course, that Draco finds himself trapped in the same twenty-four-hour period, repeating itself over and over again. It’s been nearly a year since the unpleasant business at Hogwarts, and Draco’s getting on with his life quite nicely, thank you, until Harry sodding Potter steps in and ruins it all, just like always. At first, though, the time loop seems liberating. For the first time in his life, he can do anything, say anything, be anything, without consequence. But the more Draco repeats the day, the more he realises the uncomfortable truth: he’s falling head over heels for the speccy git. And suddenly, the time loop feels like a trap. For how can he ever get Harry to love him back when time is, quite literally, against him?
Teach Me, Life; Guide Me, Love by Kira OHara [79k]
Revelations both painful and joyous set the markers in the path of every life. Thankfully, Draco has spectacular company for the journey.
That Old Black Magic by @bixgirl1 [77k]
Centuries ago, marriage contracts were the norm — ready-made alliances between families, expected and complied with, without complaint. But norms have a way of changing, and when a long-dormant contract flares to life, Harry has to navigate an unexpected splintering of the path he’d thought would be easy after the war… with Draco Malfoy.
I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I did!

Present Day.
Draco: So it’s settled then, we will continue our fake relationship until I restore my reputation and the Weasel comes crawling back.
Hermione: Fine. The sooner we get this over with the better.
One year later.
Draco: I think we should move in together. You know, to make Weasley more jealous.
Hermione: Yes and I think it will show the validity of our relationship to the public.
Two years later.
Draco: *Proposes*
Hermione: Don’t you think we’ve gone far enough?
Draco: I overheard Zacharias Smith calling me a prat last week.
Hermione: Really? Well we need to do more to improve your reputation then.
Another year later
Hermione: I do.
Draco: I do.
Official: You may kiss the Bride.
Draco: *Whispers* Oh you should see Wesley’s face right now.
Three years later
Hermione: *Holding their newborn son*
Draco: Our precious Scorpius.
Hermione: He’s perfect. Did you see the Prophet? I think people are really starting to come around to the Malfoy name.
Draco: Oh the people love me, but that could change at any moment you know? And Weasley still hasn’t come crawling back yet so there’s…that.
Eleven years later
Draco and Hermione: *Waving to their son as he boards the Hogwarts Express with Rose Weasley*
Draco: Well Granger, I think my reputation has been restored.
Hermione: Yea but did you see that look that man gave you earlier?
Draco: The Conductor? He’s like that with everyone. But…I didn’t miss how Weasley hugged you a little to long there when he dropped Rose off, he’s obviously still into you.
Hermione: Oh he tried to get me back in the first year we started dating but- you know- he’s very happy with Lavender and I’m- anyway, theres clearly lots more work to do….with your reputation.
Draco: Agreed. Years worth of it.
Hermione: Potentially decades.
Draco: Forever even.
Hermione: Forever sounds nice.

Cursed Child is awful, but I really like Astoria and have enthusiastically adopted that version of her into my headcanons.
First of all, I like that she's a genuinely good person who was (most likely) a Slytherin. I'm totally here for interesting villains and morally gray characters, but there's something very irritating about the way Slytherin is consistently the "evil" house in canon, as if 25% of the student body can be reliably identified as bad people from the age of eleven. Astoria is one of the few exceptions and feels like a breath of fresh air. She can be kind-hearted, loving, and non-prejudiced and still be a Slytherin, and I love that about her.
The blood curse is a pretty blatant example of fridging: Astoria is not meant to be important in her own right and is killed off to create angst for her husband and son, as well as to get her out of the way before the main plot gets started. But ignoring how it's handled in the play, I think the idea of the blood curse has a lot of interesting potential. The Greengrasses must have been in a very odd position, being part of the upper crust of pure-blood society and yet having their family's greatest weakness be a curse passed down from one of their ancestors, whether that is openly known or kept secret.
Astoria was raised with the same ideology as many Slytherins, in a family that was surely not still pure-blood by accident, but rejected that ideology and never looked back. That might have had a little bit to do with the curse and the weird position it likely placed her in, but I think it probably had more to do with the war.
Her experience was described on Pottermore as "similar (though less violent and frightening)" in comparison to Draco's, which I take to mean that she wasn't personally affected by the war. She was pure-blood, her parents weren't Death Eaters, and she was only fifteen or sixteen when it ended. She most likely flew under the radar and was left alone. And yet, she still came out of it believing in equality, unwilling to pass down bigoted ideas to the next generation.
To me, this suggests that she was a compassionate and empathetic person who was moved by seeing how harmful the ideology was to other people. Reading about all the awful stuff that was happening, hearing about the ways in which the war was affecting her classmates, witnessing the Carrows' cruelty even if she herself wasn't their target - although she was a bit too young to be involved in it personally, the war must have played a huge role in shaping how she sees the world.
Astoria is, above all else, a good mother. She and Draco raised Scorpius differently than how they were raised, and it shows. She taught him that Muggles are people deserving of his respect, she sent him off to school with sweets to share hoping it would help him make friends, she encouraged him to be kind and generous rather than trying to mold him into a snob or a bully. And, it's strongly implied, she helped him make sense of his family's past, especially his father's ("Mum always told me that you were a better man than I could see" - CC Act 3 Scene 3).
What really breaks my heart, more than the blood curse, is what a lonely life Astoria seems to have led as an adult. She clearly had a loving relationship with Draco and Scorpius, but between her disapproving in-laws and the stigma of being connected to the Malfoys, her husband and son seem to have been all she had. Not only is she never mentioned having any friends as an adult (which could just be because she's out of focus), Scorpius obviously had a very isolated childhood, and the family is subjected to vicious rumors thanks to Rita Skeeter. Scorpius never even mentions his maternal grandparents or his aunt when he talks about his family. Did Astoria still have a relationship with them as an adult?
And yet, it was entirely her choice. She loved Draco, she saw (or perhaps brought out) the best in him, and so she married him. I love that their relationship isn't some sort of arranged marriage or strategic match based on blood status. That they do genuinely love each other and are willing to be together even though it's not the easy choice. Even though his parents disapprove, even though she will be judged and scrutinized in a way she has done nothing to deserve, even though there is no promise of a happy ending where they grow old together.
It's weird, because Astoria is only mentioned once in the books and gets absolutely zero characterization. She comes almost entirely from the play, most of which I reject; the trolley witch is an ordinary person, and Cedric Diggory would never join the Death Eaters 🤣. And I don't really love how she was dealt with in the play, never appearing onstage, killed off without ever being properly introduced. But from the little fragments of her story that we get and the implications of what we're told, I find her to be a really interesting character.

I’d love to know more about the Interrupting Four :)
YASSS @puppyduckster I would love to tell you about this one! It's got about 20k words written, again, another fic I wanted to write last year but life got in the way.
The Interrupting Four is a working title. It's a time travel story that puts Teddy, Victoire, Albus Potter, and Scorpius Malfoy in 1991. The basic premise is this: Al and Scorpius are toying around with something they don't think is a time-turner, but it is, and Teddy catches them just in time. He's just had a one night stand with his dream girl, Victoire, and she grabs onto him and goes with the boys. All four show up in 1991 and while the boys (aged 11) are intrigued and excited, Teddy and Victoire are low-key panicking.
Of all the stories I'm likely to continue in 2024, this one is probably it. It's got the best start and the most potential for soul-crushing angst/bone crushing awkwardness. Here's a snippet!
“No,” Teddy whispered, circling the line reading ‘father of three unknown, illegitimate children.’ “He can’t possibly—no. He couldn’t.”
Victoire stared at him, puzzled. He’d told her about the meeting with Dumbledore, and the suggestion they free Sirius, but based on the strange comments the Headmaster made, Teddy had a feeling that plans were being made without his consent or input.
“Teddy,” Albus poked him in the side. “What’s wrong? I thought he was innocent.”
“Finish your dinner,” Teddy said curtly, wrapping the paper underneath his arm.
“But Madam Rosie said she’d give us ice cream!” Scorpius protested.
“We’ll get it later—right now we need to see the Headmaster.”
The door swung open and bright, afternoon light came streaming into the pub. Victoire covered her eyes and groaned, while Teddy ducked his head to see who’d arrived.
“There’s no need, Teddy.” Professor Dumbledore appeared in The Three Broomsticks with a calm smile. “There’s someone I’d like you to meet.”
Dumbledore stepped aside. Behind him, a scraggly, rail-thin man with haunted eyes looked back at Teddy.
“Hullo, Moony Jr.”
Sirius Black, gaunt, emaciated, and freshly shaved, had the nerve to wink.

About a Girl
About a Girl https://ift.tt/INvwnyg by appelsinkage Nearly two decades after the war, a widowed Draco Malfoy lives a solitary life in Muggle London running a cafe and writing letters to the son his in-laws have banned him from seeing. His lonely life becomes a little less lonely when he gains a ten-year-old stalker by the name of Rose Weasley. Ever since Rose Weasley’s half-brother, Hugo, was born her dad hasn’t had time for her. She really misses having a dad. So when she realizes Draco Malfoy isn’t evil, she decides he’s an okay temporary substitute. When a divorced Hermione Granger learns that her ten-year-old daughter has spent weeks harassing Draco Malfoy at his workplace instead of attending her summer classes at the Muggle community center, she is incredibly embarrassed and apologetic. She promises the former Death Eater to keep Rose from bothering him, but her stubborn daughter keeps going back. As Hermione watches Draco and her daughter build a father-daughter relationship, she finds herself falling in love. Meanwhile, she puts a plan into motion to help Draco reunite with the son he hasn’t seen in years. (The overall concept is based on the book/film About a Boy, but the plot is drastically different. “You think you’re ready to go home?”
Scorpius placed his hands in his lap, lacing his fingers and tapping his pointer finger against his knuckle. The arrangements had already been made, and a contract and a lease had been signed. No, he probably wasn’t ready to return home to face his friends and family, but if he hadn’t done it now, he’d never have done it. The years he had been gone, five to be exact, felt more like a lifetime and five seconds in other ways.
What would it be like to return to them? Life doesn’t stop because one person runs away. He knew that. They would have outgrown him by now, he was convinced. Some had started families, new jobs, new celebrations, and new friends that he wouldn’t know. Scorpius did not expect to slip back into their old routines because that was unrealistic, and he was anything but that. But again, he reminded himself that it would never be, if not now.
He didn’t have an answer as he glanced up at Claudia, the only friend he had ever made outside of those he grew up with- if he could even call her that. So he didn’t answer. She didn’t seem too surprised by it.
___________
“Do you like it?” Lily asked, leaning across the counter, the key to the shop dangling from her finger. “It needs some love, but you’ve always loved a good project.”
Scorpius walked around the empty store in awe of the space. Already, he could envision himself here, brewing and selling potions. Even if no one came in to purchase from him (he was convinced the Malfoy name was still shunned), it would keep him busy, and it was never about the money anyway. “I think it has potential. Thanks for letting me lease the place.”
It had taken a lot of groveling to get Lily to accept his offer, which he didn’t like, but he did it anyway. Part of him was convinced she created so many loopholes and red tape to frustrate him from renting from her, but Scorpius jumped and cut through every single one. He knew what it was. It was her way of judging if he was back for real or if this was another whim.
“Interesting that you only wanted this place when I had others ready to go. That wouldn’t have anything to do with the person who owns the above apartment, correct?” The twinkle in her eye that Scorpius spied when he glanced at her told him she already had the answer; she just wanted him to admit it. “Because if that is the case, I hate to inform you that the apartment owner has a boyfriend.” Scorpius held his breath, counting the tap, tap, tap, tap of her fingernail against the counter. “It’s serious enough that we’ve all met him multiple times.”
Scorpius returns to her, leaning against the opposite side of the counter. He smiled at the youngest Potter, a perfect picture of innocence. “If he’s happy, I’m happy.”
“Tell me why you’ve come back now.” She’s never had a problem with demands.
“You know I owe that truth to him first. When he’s ready to hear it.”
Tumblr media
Lily sighs and blows out her breath of air until her bangs fly up. She looks at Scorpius dejectedly but then leans forward, pinching his chin between her thin fingers. “It’s serious only because you left, and he’s kind of a dumb bitch, but we’ve accepted him because he was Albus’ bandaid. It’ll be different since you’re back for good. I know it.”
“Lily,” Scorpius says as he shakes his head. “Don’t meddle, leave them be. I didn’t come back to disrupt anyone’s life.”
But she merely rolls his eyes and pushes off the counter, grabbing her purse and slinging it over her shoulder. “Sure you didn’t. That’s why you picked the store below his apartment and didn’t tell him you were returning.” She stops at Scorpius’ side, leaning in to kiss his cheek. “He should be back in town tonight, so be prepared.” Scorpius reaches out and squeezes her hand. “It’s good to see you, Malfoy. You look a lot better than you did before you left. I’ll give you a few days to adjust and check-in.”
Scorpius rolled his sleeves up, cuffing them at his elbows, and got to work.
He thought a blue on the walls would look good. And if it resembled the color of Albus’ eyes, well, that was no one’s business but his own.

Druna AU Outline
I have had this idea swimming in my head so I want to write it down. Draco is OOC here but I can't control my imagination :)
Draco Malfoy
His middle name is 'Catus' instead of 'Lucius'. When Draco was born, Lucius decided to give him this name because of his curious eyes.
He has a pet runt opaleye dragon named 'Galacticus'
He was born brain-damaged or with a neurodivergence making him less socially inclined
Sorted into Ravenclaw
Loves to style his hair. Began growing it out in Hogwarts. Usually keeps it braided or in a ponytail style
Top student in the year (eat dirt Hermione!). Of course, Hermione and others beat him in some subjects.
Cold and aloof with people except those he cares about (like Luna and his dormmates)
Has disdain for the golden trio and shows said disdain by ignoring their existence
Snape is his godfather, like a second dad to him
Very artistic. Good at drawing and music.
Prodigy at potions and spell making. Snape offers to tutor his godson when he recognizes Draco's potential.
Luna Lovegood
Not much different from canon except she befriends Draco in her first year
Not as close to the golden trio due to spending more time with Draco and other Ravenclaw students. But she is still good friends with Ginny and Neville.
Druna headcanons
When Luna says something that sounds weird, instead of mocking her, Draco grills her about it and goes on a research frenzy to discover if her claim is true (sometimes Luna purposely says crazy things to rile Draco up).
They first met on Luna's sorting night. Luna wanted to touch Draco's hair and he shoved his wand in her face. Luna responded by offering to make him a butterbeer necklace so his hair would not be stolen by Nargles.
Their friendship really begins when students begin to call Luna 'Looney'.
When their friendship began, Luna had to learn how to decipher the care behind Draco's tactless and insensitive words. While Draco had to learn how to handle Luna's out-of-the-box ideas.
At the beginning of Draco's 3rd year and Luna's 2nd, Draco gives Luna an expensive necklace that he bought because it reminded him of her.
They begin dating in Draco's 6th year.
For Luna's 16th birthday, Draco takes her on a boat ride and lights the sky with lanterns (like in Tangled). And serenades her with 'Yellow' (by Coldplay) that he wrote.
Luna and Draco are very physically affectionate. Hugs, hand-holding, cuddles etc.
Draco proposes to Luna after her graduation. He plans an elaborate, romantic dinner and walk around the Malfoy gardens. Just as he works up the nerve to begin his proposal speech, Luna says bluntly that she will marry him. He glares at her cheeky grin. So much for his proposal.
They are engaged for about two years while Luna does her studies to become a Magizoologist.
They have their wedding at Malfoy Manor.
They have a 'moon and stars' themed wedding. Luna wears a sparkling midnight blue dress with a white and gold train. On her dress is the Draco constellation. Draco wears black and white robes with buttons that look like the moon. He also wears a crescent-shaped hair clip.
They have their first child about a year later.
Druna children
Scorpius Lucius Malfoy
First borne child
Looks like Draco but has Luna's curly hair
Sorted into Slytherin making his paternal grandparents very proud
Very social and extroverted. Imagine canon Draco but with less classist and bigoted views. Class clown personality.
When Scorpius was born, Draco wrote 'You'll be in My Heart' for his son and he sang it as a lullaby. It was a song he used for all of his kids.
Pluto Pandor Malfoy
Two years younger than Scorpius
Looks more like Luna but has Draco's straight hair
Sorted into Ravenclaw like his parents
Has a more reserved personality, and is very curious and loves learning.
Likes to spend time with Lucius in his study
Triplets: Nebula Lotus, Nova Violet, Leo Severus
Born three years after Pluto
Nebula and Nova are identical twins (Narcissa loves having granddaughters so much)
The girls were named after their grandmothers' favourite flowers: lotuses for Narcissa and violets for Pandora.
The triplet's birth was stressful for Luna and the healer recommended that she have no more kids
Lucius and Narcissa share an emotional moment. They struggled so badly to have Draco and now their child has given them five grandchildren. They could not be prouder.
Nebula Lotus Malfoy
Sorted into Slytherin
Daddy's girl
More feminine and girly compared to her twin
Likes to spend time with her grandmother
Nova Violet Malfoy
Sorted into Gryffindor.
Tomboyish personality.
Loves to explore
Likes to spend time with her maternal granddad
Leo Severus Malfoy
Youngest child
Sorted into Hufflepuff
Quiet and shy, a mama's boy
Named after Snape because Draco was reminded of his godfather on a spiritual level when he saw Leo. When Luna mentions Harry named his son Albus after Snape already, Draco sniffs and coldly states Snape was his godfather and not Potter's.
Leo often creeps into his father's lab to watch his father work, similar to what Draco did with Snape.

Hey, doesn't Draco get his own little nod of 'I guess we're cool now' from Harry.... in the 19 years later epilogue I like to pretend doesn't exist? Seriously, the wasted potential of Draco Malfoy as a character / foil! This is why I'm so grateful Lionheart exists as a canon AU!
I had to look this up in my copy, but the funny thing is, he actually doesn't! draco nods at harry when they're seeing their kids off at ol' Platform 9.75, but harry never responds, and draco turns away before the two can interact:
Draco caught sight of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny staring at him, nodded curtly, and turned away again.
this is the last thing that draco malfoy ever does in the books. it's a very strange gesture. because on the one hand, it implies they've made peace and achieved a level of professional civility — at any other point in the books, draco would have shown nowhere near even this bare-minimum level of politeness for harry. but also, ron's lingering vitriol towards draco ("so that's little scorpius... make sure you beat him in every test, rosie") implies that they're far from friends.
there is, of course, the fact that harry saves draco in the burning Room of Requirement, which is arguably the closest the books come to any statement of sympathy for draco: a sort of halfhearted, "yeah, he's not a good person, but he doesn't deserve to die a fiery death." which is something, at least. there's also a sort of neat line drawn between him and crabbe, who does die in the ROR fire, but crabbe does it out of active malice and ignorance, whereas draco seems just to be reluctantly following orders. that reluctance, combined with his refusal to identify harry earlier in the book, is what seems to save him. so it's not a total loss.
but this is my problem with the epilogue in general: nineteen years is a crazy long amount of time. insanely long. so long that most of these characters should be unrecognizable to us based on where they were in 1997, as should their dynamics. and so there's this tonal dissonance that arises when you realize that the Golden Trio all remember draco well enough to have a quiet moment of staring on the platform, they know his son's name, and they know his wife, too: the narration says he's there "with his wife and son," not "a woman who must have been his wife," or "a woman who seemed to be his wife," or anything else to suggest harry didn't recognize her. so clearly they know of each other and have had contact since the end of the war. but what on earth is that nod supposed to tell us NOW? it should have happened at the end of the battle of hogwarts, when it actually would have made sense and represented some acknowledgement of harry saving his life! that would have made sense in context! but after nineteen years, it means absolutely nothing, because we have no idea what their dynamic is anymore! it doesn't work.

c*cksuckers anonymous | harry/scorpius
Rated E | 800 words | Kinkuary day 2: Gloryhole Tags: Anonymous sex, hand jobs, blow jobs, pining (Scorbus), London, cruising, exhibitionism, cottaging Thank you so much to InnerLilith for the beta!
Harry never would have pegged Draco Malfoy’s prim and proper son to have a proclivity for cottaging, but here he is—or, rather, there his knees are—waiting and ready on the hard-tiled floor of Clapham’s best public loo.
When Albus and Scorpius moved into their flatshare two months ago, Harry had only been mildly concerned about sharing a postcode with them. Potentially shopping at the same supermarket. Drinking in the same pub.
Ten minutes ago, before he watched that unmistakable white-blond head disappear into the gent’s, Harry didn’t think he’d have to worry about sharing his favourite cruising spot, too.

New intro
Hello everyone!
I am Sara, I am an italian fanwriter and this is my multifandom and totally random blog. I will post and reblog everything that catch my attention, and maybe one day I will learn how to tag properly or how to sort out my posts 😂
I am a multishipper and a proshipper. I can potentially write and read everything under the sun. Of course I have my preferences, so... Let's start.
First of all, my ao3 profile. In the last months I start to translate every fic I write so you can find a double for every fic, one in italian and one in english. Maybe one day I will translate my old works, who knows.
That said, my main fandoms:
Harry Potter
I am a Severus Snape stan.
My otp: Severus Snape/Lily Luna Potter, Severus Snape/Lily Evans
Other ships I love: James Potter/Sirius Balck, James Potter/Sirius Black/Lily Evans, Draco Malfoy/Hermione Granger, Rose Weasley/James Sirius Potter, Rose Weasley/Teddy Lupin, Rose Weasley/Scorpius Malfoy, Scorpius Malfoy/Albus Severus Potter, Scorpius Malfoy/Lily Luna Potter
Bonus ships I love: Tom Riddle/Helena Ravenclaw (The Gray Lady), Salazar Slytherin/Helena Ravenclaw, Rowena Ravenclaw/Salazar Slytherin, Albus Dumbledore/Gellert Grindelwald, Tom Riddle/Gellert Grindelwald, Gellert Grindelwald/Ariana Dumbledore
... As you can see I ship everyone with everyone and for the weirdest ships you can blame my bestie.
Masterlist for my fics
The ballad of songbirds and snakes/The hunger games
I am a Coriolanus Snow stan.
My otp: Coriolanus Snow/Lucy Gray Baird
Other ships I love: Coriolanus Snow/Sejanus Plinth, Coriolanus Snow/Lucy Gray Baird/Sejanus Plinth, Katniss Everdeen/Peeta Mellark
Bonus ships I love: Coriolanus Snow/Clemensia Dovecote, Coriolanus Snow/Katniss Everdeen, Crassus Snow/Lucy Gray Baird
... As you can see I ship Coriolanus with everyone and for my taste I can only blame myself here. Also I am in love with the "fix-it" concept for Coriolanus Snow and I own the tag "Coriolanus Snow becomes a better person to impress his lover/lovers".
Masterlist for my fics
That's all, I suppose! Of course I am in more fandom etc, but this two had me down so bad I can write only for them. They are a constant in my life at this point, I think.
Oh, yes! My inbox is always open. You can send me asks (even anon asks); I don't know about request for fics because I have little to no time, but last time someone sent me a prompt it becames so huge that now I have an entire silly fic plotted in my mind - and I actually wrote one au of this - so you can try! The only thing I don't write about is the "x reader" tag because I don't like the whole concept of the "reader". I am sorry.
Well, have fun on my blog and with my stories! 💖

A Sacred Bond an Infernal Curse
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/R5SaOzd by hmweasley In the wizarding world, no one feels anything until they touch their soulmate. Old pureblood families have long considered it a curse, one that a Muggleborn performed centuries ago to spite them. Some have gone as far as murder to avoid "tarnishing" the family name. Others know that the magic knows what's best for them. Albus knows his person is Scorpius, but for five years, Scorpius has flinched away from any potential touch. Albus knows why. In the immediate aftermath of the war, Lucius and Narcissa let Draco marry his soulmate, and they’ve regretted the decision since. They won’t make the same mistake with their grandson, no matter how much Draco protests. Albus wants nothing more than to hold Scorpius’ hand and finally know once and for all if his crush is reciprocated, but he also knows that it’s hopeless. Scorpius has always given into his family's pressure. He won’t go against them for Albus’ sake, even if their bond is confirmed. When Albus learns that his mum will be the new flying instructor, he has to prepare himself for the toughest year of his schooling yet as his mum tries to meddle in his love life and Lucius and Narcissa prepare to marry Scorpius off. Albus realises that he may not be safe. Words: 3678, Chapters: 1/38, Language: English Series: Part 24 of SoulTember Fandoms: Harry Potter - J. K. Ship ask game: Scorbus
Thanks for the ask hinnyfied!!
Do I ship it? I am UNDECIDED. One of the few ships I am undecided about.
Favorite things about the ship/what would make me ship it: First, I love the idea of Harry and Draco as in-laws. I really love the idea of Draco and Ron as in-laws though. Second, I like good bro friendships where men can be close and secure (Turk and JD from Scrubs is one of my favorite brOTPs). However, I also like seeing m/m ships in pop media/culture (David & Patrick from Schitt's Creek comes to mind, I ADORE that ship). Having representation for male friendships and ships is good, so I'm torn on that aspect for Scorpius and Albus. Third, and finally, there's little in canon to go off of for these two. As I've said in a previous post, I'm a canon shipper at heart. Scorpius and Albus live in my mind as 11 years olds on King's Cross, for the most part, so shipping them when they're older is nebulous.
Unpopular opinion/positive things to say: IDK if it's unpopular, but I think Draco would have an easier time than Harry with the relationship. Draco wouldn't want his family name to die out so I could see him having a late in life baby to 'make up' for not having a grandson to carry his name and bloodline through Scorpius. Harry's kid having a Malfoy for a boyfriend/husband would probably be harder on him. Positive things to say: so much potential for angst, character growth, and intergenerational family trauma. All those make for delicious elements in a fic.
