Uryū was used to killing.
He was used to the easy control and flow of his spirit energy, using it to destroy, to kill the hollows that roamed through Kagimino City. It was his legacy, his duty, his privilege. He enjoyed it.
But now, as he lay here on the ground with his life’s blood seeping into the cracks between the paving slabs beneath him, he found absolutely nothing pleasurable about the delivery of death.
And that wasn’t because he was on the receiving end.
Well, mostly not.
Of course, it was different when it was a hollow, he thought to himself dully through the pain. Hollows weren’t beings in the same way Kurosaki was.
Kurosaki…
Uryū shuddered painfully as he remembered the all-too recent sounds of the soul reapers hurting, killing Kurosaki. It was so wrong. Kurosaki’s stubborn and foolhardy declarations were annoying, sure, but he didn’t deserve to die for them. He didn’t deserve to die for having gained Rukia Kichiki’s powers.
He didn’t deserve to die at all.
Ah, Uryū thought hazily through the pain as his side throbbed, that’s it. That was the difference between what he as a quincy did to hollows and what those soul reapers had done to Kurosaki. It was all to do with whether the being on the receiving end deserved it.
He turned his head wearily, wincing at the pain and the monumental effort that took. His glasses were broken beyond repair now, bridge bent across his nose and lenses fragmented, but he squinted through them anyway, trying to catch a glimpse of Kurosaki.
Blood.
So much blood that not even the driving rain could dilute it to a lighter red.
Uryū shuddered again, gasping as the movement aggravated his wounds. Kurosaki’s hoarse, agonised cry echoed in his ears, though he’d long since gone horribly quiet.
So much blood.
Hollows didn’t bleed, after all.
Hollows…
Uryū swallowed. Thinking.
The soul reapers had mentioned Menos Grande, and a report. Like they’d been drawn to Kagimino by it, then had only stumbled on Rukia— and Kurosaki— by chance.
Which meant…
Which meant.
Uryû shifted with another pulse of pain to look Kurosaki’s prone form up and down. So, so much blood.
“This could be all my fault,” he croaked into the petrichor-soaked air. Oh, it had been such a stupid, stupid idea, and now Kurosaki… Kurosaki might die for Uryū’s pride. Like he almost had before.
Kurosaki didn’t respond to Uryū’s whisper, which was the furthest thing from good, but there was nothing he could do about that except finish speaking the sour words of regret into the air. “If it is… I’m so sorry.”
Silence.
Rain and blood and tears mingled in one sorry mixture and dripped off Uryū’s nose.

#i was thinking about like. wait. how feasible IS it for ganon to make friends#because i've been doing a lot of basically ig overhauls with how i write ganon in my comic#he was originally not meant to be in-character at all and now i really want to make him FEEL like ganon#so i've been rethinking how his backstory works and how he reacts to it. originally i wasn't going to change anything but the tweaks i've#been making work really really well and i'm very pleased#and part of his whole deal is that he made a friend#and the more i think about it the more i really really need to think about how that happened just because it's so unlike my vision of him#in my head to like. genuinely be vulnerable and want to be friends with someone in any capacity#dude it mustve taken forever. and idk the more i think about it the more i realize it probably wasnt even the characters Intention#but also. the fact that there is a pretty strong power imbalance between the two actually?? kind of makes it more feasible in a way??#so for the record ganon is Not the one with the power here and the character i planned on befriending him is. and like#the last post i reblogged made me go. oh hey.#ganon would automatically assume he's going to get exploited or abused or attacked somehow because thats what HE does when he has power#over someone like that.#and then when the friend just. doesn't. I forgor to buy a lighter colored wood for the spine/core so I can't keep working on it tonight cause all I've got is the walnut.

I don't like BSD I'm sorry if I'm putting myself through the little sister bullshit I'm doing it for a VN that does something interesting not for a basic shounen anime with a mafia aesthetic and some questionable literary references.
#my posts#dazai wanting to kill himself is really funny until you look up the guy he's named after#and like I could've tolerated it in a better anime but definitely not a basic shounen anime with a mafia aesthetic#''it gets better in season 2'' the VNs with little sister bullshit that I put myself through give me something good to latch onto#before I have to confront the little sister bullshit#like akiha's route is the third one in tsukihime and uh...#actually let's be real subahibi got significantly worse after it made its little sister bullshit apparent#and it's not specifically because of the little sister bullshit let me be clear but I do consider it a symptom#honestly the issues are kinda baked into the rest of the story but at least you can theoretically get to a better conclusion#without any edits to stuff before the second half of jabberwocky I#after that I think there need to be real structural edits like you can keep some of the content#but oh god please give hasaki some narrative agency in her own fucking POV and maybe give tomosane narrative agency in his POV#that doesn't ultimately boil down to what girl he fucks#zakuro's pov has a choice that is ultimately between ''click here for epic lesbian ending'' and ''click here for trauma''#but the choice is between her thinking about what she should do about her situation and her just going back to her classroom sadly#which reflects how her epic lesbian ending happens as a result of zakuro not falling into helplessness#meanwhile tomosane's choices only really seem to say ''the choice you make will lead you to the route you don't expect it to I guess''#and you have to complete the other two routes first before you can even unlock the choice that would lead to an ending where he rejects#companionship even though the theme of his POV is that he should accept his own connections and not resign to his presumed fate of disappea#oh yeah that theme also goes out the window because the ''good'' endings of the game decide to fix all that by revealing that#he was the ''true personality'' all along and implying that being a system is a barrier to a super happy ending#you know what this has turned into a tangent but I'm keeping it here because now I wanna make a post on an alt about it later#and I wanna use it for reference#point is why put myself through a mid shounen anime with normal mid anime problems when I can get psychological damage from something inter
