heads up: sad reader hours.

minghao's hand is a little cold when he cups your cheek, frowning a little as he looks you over. "do you want to talk about it?"

most days, you do. the two of you usually sit together and talk out your feelings for as long as you need to until clarity is gained. but today, all you've been doing is sulking. you shake your head, hugging yourself a little tighter.

he crouches in front of the couch, just to be at your eye level. "is there anything i can do?"

"i dunno," you sigh. "i'm just kinda bummed out."

when you turn away from him, he sighs. he pats your knee and stands up, wandering away. you just shut your eyes, letting your mind wander for a bit. the heavy feeling in your chest has haunted you for far too long today, but how were you supposed to pull yourself out of this slump? sometimes it took other people, but you didn't even know what to tell minghao if he asked again. you'd talked with your parents earlier and not even they knew what could pull you out of this funk.

a few minutes later, you hear minghao approach again. when you open your eyes, he's kneeling in front of the couch with drawn-on whiskers. a moment later, he holds up his hands like paws.

"am i cute?"

it's stupid. it's so stupid, and the slight pained look in his eyes tells you that's it is supposed to be stupid. but you snort back a laugh, covering your mouth as you look away. what the hell? it doesn't elicit much else out of you, but you turn back and cup his cheek. he cracks a little after a moment, smiling and cringing at himself as he lowers himself fully onto the ground. it's silly, but his sweet giggle lightens the weight on your shoulders a little.

"thank you," you say softly after you draw him in for a quick kiss. "i think i needed that."
