i have mostly given up on trying to get other people to be more plant-based in their diets or be aware of their hypocrisy but i do still feel deeply baffled by it. like i have a friend from back home who regularly posts her beef/chicken/pork dinners but is constantly expressing how cruel she thinks rabbit meat is, which ok i get it you have a pet rabbit. but the other day she posted some instagram stories from visiting a traditional seafood market at south korea, pictures of all these fish and octopuses on display and it’s all so cool and it’s gonna become delicious food and so on. and then a picture of a bucket of turtles, for turtle soup, with a caption about how gross and sad it is that they’re selling turtles for turtle soup. like that’s just ontologically so wrong and so immoral. unlike, you know, the octopus bucket. girl you’re the one at the seafood bazaar ???? like how is it more wrong to have turtle soup than octopus soup????

Anxiety still fuckes me on the daily, but meds are there for me to make things slightly better. But today I conquered my tasks and I managed to finish the first draft of my English lit paper. I only have to reread it a few times to edit it and fix things, but most of the work is done. I will also send it to a friend to ask her opinion and whether she things my writing was clear enough, so that I know how to plan my next study moves. I haven't picked a topic for my history paper yet, so that must happen at the beginning of next week so that I can start working on it. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed about next week like I have so much to organize, and do, and aaaaaaaah I just want to stay in bed for a month and not do anything ugh. I am also missing a book to help me in my desperate need of escapism because I finished both books I was reading and I don't know what to pick next. As for podcasts I also feel quite empty now that I finished monstrous agonies and the mistholme museum is also over. I started listening to travelling light because I need to have H.R. Owen's voice in my life, but I am not fully into it yet, I am intrigued tho. In conclusion just picture me as a screaming possum and you pretty much get a clear picture of me rn.

Uh, no. You guys are seriously making no sense. He is used to having his familial and friend relationships partially take place in a work environment. But he still loves people unconditionally outside of work. The ‘endgame’ is stolas becoming a receptionist so this headcanon that he’s the exception is plain false.

Stolas has always been the one who asks for a ‘special requests’, protection, favours, rescue, finding Via, performing on stage, some type of an ‘exchange’. Not Blitzø. He stole from him which is not a transaction, then stolas turned it into one. Sex.

Even in this crystal confession, he is giving Blitzø a gift in exchange for staying with him and providing for Stolas’ romantic fantasies, wants, and desires, for free. And if Blitzø isn’t willing to give him what he wants, he quickly replaces him with a new better qualified man who can.

Blitzø doesn’t believe stolas truly loves him, he believes he just satisfies Stolas’ romcom fantasies. And he’s completely right. Stolas just wants “someone” in his rebuttal he didn’t mention transaction a single time.

That crystal was him trying to buy his love.

This is still his best friend, past and present, with nothing to do with work. They do not have a give and take between them. As kids Blitzø really wasn’t good at his job, but Fizz didn’t care. As adults Fizz didn’t ask Blitzø to be his bodyguard, he chose to be.

His two most cherished people, his mother and sister, he was not in a transaction with either of them. As they are working class, they had to be employed to support their family. If you guys think that’s a non genuine transactional relationship, then you have a very skewed privileged worldview.

Moxxie and Millie, he may feel like they wouldn’t want to be around him if not for being paid. But the opposite clearly isn’t true. He continuously approaches them outside of work, in Harvest Moon the first people he thinks of when he’s presented with a day off work for fun, is the two of them. Millie also allows him and Moxxie to stay at her parents home on the night off. That’s not transaction. If it was she’d ask him to pay for it. Both sides willingly spend time with each other outside work.

And the BIGGEST counterpoint of them all: Loona.

He gains practically nothing by keeping her around. Adopting her was his choice. She is hostile to him but he loves her anyway.

She is bad at her job, but despite that, despite not earning him anything, despite not gaining anything via transaction, he refuses to leave her or ever replace her. The thought sickens him and enrages him.

All of his romantic/sexual exes were also not ‘transactional’. He dated Verosika in his own words, he wasn’t her sex worker and she wasn’t his.

He simply doesn’t want to be in a relationship with a rich guy where he does all the taking as a pampered sugar baby and none of the giving. That’s because he’s independent, not that he can’t conceptualise relationships unless it’s for work. That’s evidently not the case.

TLDR;

For others, transaction of money occurred, but there was still a bond of personal intimacy there. For stolas, the intimacy was the currency. He is the only one who has ever requested intimacy itself as a service. He never stopped asking for it, he just provided a large gift then asked for more intimacy for free from now on, in exchange. That’s why it simply cannot be compared to the others.

He’s the only one who was buying his affection and that has left him feeling very violated and very confused.

want to give my two cents on the AI usage in the maestro trailer--

i think seventeen doing a whole concept that is anti-AI is very cool, especially as creatives themselves i think it's good that they're speaking up against it and i hope it gets more ppl talking about the issue. i also understand on a surface level the artistic choice (whether it was made by the members, the mv director, or whoever else), to directly use AI in contrast to real, human-made visuals and music in order to criticize it. i also appreciate that they clearly stated the intention of the use of AI at the beginning of the video

however, although i understand it to an extent, i do not agree with the choice to use AI to critique AI. one of the main ethical concerns with generative AI is that it is trained on other artists' work without their knowledge, consent, or compensation. and even when AI generated images are being used to critique AI, it still does not negate this particular ethical concern

the use of AI to critique also does not negate the fact that this is work that could have been done by an actual artist. i have seen some people argue that it's okay in this context because it's a critique specifically about AI, and it is content that never would have been done by a real artist anyway because it doesn't make sense for the story they're trying to tell. but i disagree. i think you can still tell the exact same story without using AI

and in fact, i would argue that it would make the anti-AI message stronger if they HAD paid an artist to draw/animate the scenes that are supposed to represent AI generated images. wouldn't it just be proof that humans can create images that are just as bad and nonsensical and soulless as AI, but that AI can't replicate the creativity and beauty and basic fucking anatomy that's in human-made art?

it feels very obvious this was not just a way to cut corners and costs like a lot of scummy people are using AI for. ultimately it was a very intentional creative decision, i just personally think it was a very poor one. and even if some ethical considerations were taken into account before this decision, i certainly don't think all of them were. at the very least i feel like the decision undermines the message they want to convey

i would also like to recognize that i myself am not an artist, and i have seen some artists that are totally on board with the use of AI in this specific context, so clearly this is not a topic that is cut and dry. but generative AI is still new, and i think it's important to keep having these conversations
