I adore Cerus, he's a fun villain and was such a powerful threat to even Isgarren. But I think there is an underlying layer of tragedy that comes with his character.

Cerus admired Febe ("Oh, he was the best of us.") long, long after the man's death, and in spite of the fact that anyone aligned with Eparch and his beliefs would view Febe as a traitor. He believed in their autonomy; was an idol to it. Why would Cerus idolise someone so divorced from what his beliefs should be?

Eparch raised Cerus and Deimos both, instilling this violent and cruel nature that is not an inherent trait of kryptis. And Eparch favoured Deimos enough that Cerus developed feelings of inferiority; desperation to match up to Deimos in Eparch's eyes. He is the one stuck between his prized brother and his spoiled sister. While Peitha describes him as having no reservation, it's entirely possible that he was trying to assert himself, being the seemingly overlooked one of his siblings.

Maybe Febe was kind to him. Febe, who was gentle and careful and believed in autonomy. Freedom. He went against what Eparch wanted from the kryptis, and maybe, just maybe, that spoke to a young Cerus who was resentful that Eparch would look any which way but at him.

Cerus would look up to Febe and find he didn't have to compete with Deimos or Peitha to be noticed for once.

And why do I think this is what Febe's relationship was to Cerus? Because of the way Febe died.

Cerus was there with Eparch when Deimos killed Febe in the temple that would be named after him. But why? We know Eparch has a sadistic streak for watching people suffer, but why take Cerus there too?

Unless Eparch was afraid that Cerus had started to drift from his control and towards Febe, and he had to stamp out that possibility in a way he knew would stick. By having Cerus watch his idol be slain in front of him while he could do nothing to intervene, all at the hands of the brother he could, would, never be able to live up to.

"That's what happens when you fight back."

Maybe that's why he did the same to Isgarren all those years later; letting him go for the briefest moments to have to witness Mabon's death with full clarity, but with no way to prevent it. Breaking Isgarren the same way Eparch broke him.

And after that, there is nowhere to go. He pushed those thoughts away of what Febe inspired in him, and Eparch helped. Succumbing to Eparch's grip on him because there is no other choice now. And as hundreds of years pass, he grows to like it. He thrives in the brutality and does what he is ordered to.

But he never forgets his admiration, despite it all. And he still never matches up to Deimos, no matter how hard he tries.

It is even faintly implied that his own mate, Heitor, yearned for Deimos before him. Deimos was once the 'young glaive of House Nephus', implying that 'glaive' may have been a title that Cerus only gained upon his brother's disappearance or death. And through Kanaxai's own words, long before either of them left for Tyria: 'Earlier, the Glaive's hands clasp my shoulders. Prideful. Assuring. Heitor's envy, sumptuous.'

Even up until his dying breath, Cerus never compares to his brother.

And he could have. He could have had it all, presenting Isgarren to Eparch and finally receiving the validation that he was as good as his brother. If not for Peitha.

He would have achieved his dream, if only she hadn't stepped in.

But instead he lost his life, body broken with the aid of his sister like his mind had been broken with the aid of his brother all that time ago in the very same temple devoted to the man he'd idolised.

witchreg wednesday! : the lead up to mabon! 🔮 ahhhh! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა for witches, this week is an important build up for the Mabon Celebration which starts next week on the 21st September and will carry on until the 24th Septemeber. of course, being a pagan myself, i will be having a little event on the pumpkin blog to celebrate the festival! it will run from Thursday to Sunday but don't worry, regular posts will still be uploaded too! so nobody is missing out! <3 a lot of witches have been asking me what i've been doing leading up & what i've got planned for the actual day so here are some of my things! <3 on the lead up to mabon: 1. deep cleaning. - i wanted to get rid of everything old and start autumn wish a fresh home to wish new things into! <3. you don't have to deep clean- i just did because i have the extra time. 2. collecting things. - with the celebration of mabon, i of course need to decorate my alter too! but with everything being expensive recently, i've resulted in hand making a lot of my deocrations or collecting things like (rocks, leaves, sticks) from outside too! (make sure you use anti-bacterial to wash and stuff so it's not icky!)

3. plan simple - you don't have to be grand to be a good witch, as long as the intent is there, then that's all that matters <3. you could even do something as simple as dressing up in autumn colours! or burning some candles and journaling what you want to happen this autumn <3. go where your craft takes you & have fun with it too! do whatver makes you feel happy <3.

Lammas August 1st: Of Bairns and Banes

For the village is in mourning, the villagers terrified. And very much in need of a Witcher. Lucky for them, one has just arrived.

What’s up T?! It’s been a hot minute! I’m back from sabbatical - just in time for Harvest/Mabon. 🍁🍂

This time of year is always about change, but even more than usual for me this time… I just found out a couple of days ago that my landlord is selling the house I live in, which is huge to me because this house is where my kids and I rebuilt our lives after a lot of trauma. We’ve put a lot of love into it, and none of us feels quite ready to move on. But change is inevitable, as always, so we’re gently finding our way through it.

Moving house is crazy expensive, ofc, so I’ve been back at my art desk creating some new stuff - and I’ve decided to do a very limited run of these prints. There are just 20 each available of the altar cards (first pic) and posters, and I’ll be posting all orders next Wednesday so they’ll arrive in time for Harvest/Mabon. So if you’d like to help me find a new place to make home for my family, please do pick one up at the link below. Free postage to anywhere in the UK (and pretty cheap to the rest of the world, too!). Each print is made at home by me, using archival quality inks on heavy, acid free cartridge paper.

Hello everyone! I know it’s been a long time since I’ve personally made a post. Things were crazy for me in a mental health sense. BUT! I do have an Ostara post for you!

I am a “closeted witch”. Luckily we live in 2023, and everyone is fascinated with crystals and the “witch aesthetic”. As a pro, I can easily decorate without seeming like I practice when I actually do, a win-win situation!

A lot has to do with how I used to celebrate Easter with my parents, I collaborated pastel and bright colors with earth elements. It took me years to collect these items, so don’t feel pressure to want to purchase things! For me it’s all about the change of the seasons and with my spiritual growth.

I started by cleansing my altar surface with Florida water and not shown is applying protection sigils before I start building my altar. I didn’t have time to make an Ostara ritual oil unfortunately; but I do have an Ostara bath in mind that I’ll probably share in the near future!

Here are the crystals I’ve used for Ostara;

- Amethyst: enhances spiritual connection, relieves insomnia, and helps with mental clarity and memory.

-Citrine: Attracts prosperity, abundance and wealth, helps cultivate confidence and personal power.

-Fluorite : Helps transform negative energy into positive energy.

-Opal : Helps with emotional balance and stabilization, also a protective stone like an “invisibility cloak “

-Flower Agate : In connection to the heart, this crystal will help with your inner peace, empathy, and joy.

-Selenite : Acts as an active space cleanser, I personally always have this on my altar to proactively cleanse my altar space. Depending how I’m feeling I will generally leave it or let it stay on my altar , because it does cleanse good and bad energy. Sometimes I get the feeling of “the void”, and need to place it away from my altar to rebuild and stabilize my intentions for my altar… if that makes sense 😅

-Blue Agate : This crystal helps dispelling fear, and gives me an emotional facelift. Basically keeping my emotional being in check.

-Jade : My jade is a dark green shade. This one in particular helps with centering and grounding myself.

-Clear Quartz : An amplifier crystal, it helps with meditation and psychic abilities.

-Amber : Acts as a sun crystal for me. It releases bright and soothing energy when I need it most.

-Aquamarine : Benefits with this crystal helps with gaining insight and wisdom.

Labradorite- : Relieves anxiety, stress, bringing out the best of yourself.

A lot of these crystals I’ve chosen for this season had to do with the elements. Water, air, fire , earth.

I got the glass bunny trinket container from Target a year back, and the fake flowers are from Dollar Tree ( thank goodness for that store or I’d never be able to change my altar for the seasons ever😭).

I’ve made a money and abundance cup to “plant” my goals and manifestations for Spring. In the black sachet I’ve included :

-Basil leaf

-Anise Star

My Fourth Mabon – Plans for My 2024 Autumnal Equinox Celebration

Once again, I’m making plans for next week’s Autumnal Equinox, but for some reason, this year feels different. I can’t quite articulate why or how it feels different, but let’s just say my spidey sense is tingling. Not in a “beware of danger” kind of way. But in a “you’re on the precipice of something significant” kind of way. 

Edit: I've since learned why I feel my spidey sense tingling. It's because of the recent Nodal Shift into Aries/Libra. This is technically my reverse nodal return. My NN is in Libra and my SN is in Aries.

Anyway, until I can suss out the why of it all, I’ll just make plans for the equinox that feels in the spirit of what I’m sensing at the moment. Either way, I’m sure I’ll overdo it and put too much on my plate like I always do. 😏

Let’s dive in shall we … 

Since the equinox falls on a Saturday (September 23rd) when I have to work, this is going to be a little different from years past. My plans will likely fall over 2 or 3 days because that’s just how I roll when it comes to celebrating the arrival of my favorite season, so that part is actually the same as years’ past. 

Even though I have to work, it’s not all bad. It just so happens that I’ll be working outside at an arts & culture festival in the park, so it’s a chance to enjoy nature throughout most of the day (keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn’t rain though). 

But once my work day is over, my plans look like this: 

Note: The arts and culture festival has been cancelled due to a rainy forecast, so that changes my plans a little bit. Also, because we're behind at work, it looks like I'll have to work Monday and Tuesday next week. Oddly enough, I'm not too upset about that. 🙃 We have a lot going on that will finish off the year and kickoff the fall season like we haven't done before. A little extra work feels justified in order to pull it all together.

- Cornbread (nothing fancy)

- Apple crisp topped with ice cream (for dessert, as a farewell to summer and hello to fall) ✅

I’ll probably have some hot chocolate later in the evening as a final hat tip to the beginning of autumn.

All in all, I’d say this is a reasonable plan for celebrating the spirit of the equinox and the start of my favorite season. I'm interested to see how it all turns out.

Things were a little quieter in September, but we still got 41 fills to enjoy, created by 21 wonderful bingo participants. We’re looking at 31 fics, five artworks, one moodboard, and the usual overachievers creating works that include fic and art (two fills) and fic and moodboards (another two fills).

The top two ships are as unsurprising as always: Merlin/Arthur was top with 16, and gen second with 13. That said, we’ve got a new ‘best of the rest’, with Gwaine/Percival (three works, the most they’ve gotten any month this round). They beat out Merlin/Gwaine and Gwen/Morgana (both with two), and a handful of other ships that got just the one fill.

Before you go on to see all the gorgeous works from September, I just want to remind you all that October is the last month to sign up for round two of the bingo. This round closes on the 30th November, followed by a bonus badge amnesty period in December, and then a short break for the mods before we launch round three next year.

🎭 : What is an emotionally impactful or a silly worship-related experience you've had? Something silly comes to mind: Once in Uni got super high with a friend, and hosted a Pagan House party with tarot, themed cocktails for our patron gods and spent the night toasting 'Lady Pomegranate' and now it's an annual event. Persephone seems to vibe with it. 🌞 : Which deity(ies) are you closest to/do you worship the most often? By far I'm closest to Persephone, been worshipping/working with her since like 2020. 🎉 : Do you celebrate any festivals? If so, which ones? If we're thinking along the lines of the Wheel of the Year for simplicity (although I'm always looking for new festivals):

Yule and Litha: The Solstices, I celebrate them the same way, with a simple vigil, I like to Stay awake from sunset to sunrise, and just watch the night go by, normally coupled with some tarot or reflection and a bonfire.

Ostara through to Beltane: Here I celebrate Persephone's Ascent from the Underworld, normally with a month long working/dedication/offering, coupled with a special candle, and additional offerings to Hades (day after Ostara), Hekate (1st New Moon) and Demeter (1st Full Moon).

I refer to Beltane (May 1st) during this time as "The Day of Flowers" where i celebrate Persephone's return as a full Spring/Nature Goddess by gifting flowers from 'The Queen of May' and generally act the fool.

Mabon through to Samhain: Is when I celebrate Persephone's Descent into the Underworld, basically the same idea as above, a large month long working, and offerings to Hades (Samhain eve), Hekate (1st New Moon) and Demeter (1st Full Moon).

I mark Samhain as among other things as 'Presephone's Coronation', where I invite people to a Feast, with plenty of Pomegranate wine, but in general it's normally a more sombre elegant affair. 🧭 : What led you to your practice? At Uni I was an Equality officer for the SU student council. met a bunch of pagans who felt like they were underrepresented, so I helped them get a Society set up and acted as a liaison for them. had to fight the Christian union a few time for those witches but it was fun. These trees emit aromatic oils which have seduced people for centuries. Cinnamon is a spice used mostly in baking and cooking, and it also comes in essential oil form.

Cinnamon has been traded and used for thousands of years. Records show since at least 2000 BC. Ancient Egyptian priests used cinnamon in the mummification process, giving it an inevitable link to the spirit world and the dead. It was also given as offering to royalty and to gods and goddesses in ancient times. It has been traded from various countries in tropical Asia and in high demand all over the known world since.

Cinnamon Magic Properties

Cinnamon is used by magical practitioners and witches of all kinds and for many reasons. Cinnamon’s magic properties include protection, money, strength, love, amplification, divination and connection to the ancestors and the spirit world. Cinnamon comes in a few forms, making cinnamon magic versatile and fun. Find cinnamon sticks, chips, and powdered at your local grocery store. Cinnamon essential oil is sold by natural food stores and herbal shops. How you use cinnamon in your witchcraft is only limited to your imagination. Here’s a few ideas:

1. Cinnamon Magic With Coffee or Tea

The first candle spell I ever cast included a red votive candle and McCormick’s powdered cinnamon. If all you have is a candle, a bit of oil, and some cinnamon, you’re good to go! 6. Simmering Cinnamon Magic Potpourri

7. Mulled Wine with Cinnamon

Nothing reminds me of Autumn or the Winter holiday season like mulled wine. Great for family dinners, holiday parties, coven meetings, and more. I’ve seen a lot of cinnamon stick decorations during Christmas time. It’s as easy as gluing or stringing cinnamon sticks together to make a symbol. Witches can use this craft to make runes, pentagrams, etc. Pinterest has some great crafting tutorials – just search for “cinnamon stick craft”. Then add string or ribbon to the top and hang your cinnamon magic runes above your altar, around the home, and even in your car.

10. Snickerdoodle Cinnamon Magic

Snickerdoodles are basically sugar cookies rolled in cinnamon. Sounds delicious, right? It is. Add a little magick to your cookies by visualizing your intentions while baking them. You could even draw sigils and symbols into the cinnamon before rolling your cookie dough in them.

11. As a Magical Additive to Healthy Smoothies

The same way you add cinnamon to the top of your coffee and tea, you’ll add it to your smoothie. Cinnamon literally goes great in almost every decadent smoothie containing banana, pumpkin, coffee, cacao, peanut butter, apple, and even pear. Whenever I add it to my morning smoothie, I envision it’s energies speeding up the healthy benefits of each ingredient. I also visualize it providing protection and strength to me so I can get through my day.

12. Cinnamon Pine Cones

A legitimately fun activity to do in Autumn or Winter is to make scented pine cones. If you live in a place where the pine cones are aplenty, gather 12-18. You can then either drip cinnamon essential oil onto the cones and bake them at 200 degrees for 15 minutes. OR bake them first to dry them out completely THEN add the pine cones to a bag along with the oil, shake, remove and let air dry completely. Adding other oils to the mix increases the aroma these babies give off including clove, orange, or mint oils. Leave them in a bowl near your front door or on the coffee table.

13. Cinnamon Bread for Prosperity

One of my favorite magical things to bake is cinnamon bread. It’s a delicious dish for the Winter holidays (Yule or Saturnalia) and is versatile. Eat it for breakfast, brunch, snack or dessert. Every time you eat it, visualize prosperity filling your house and bank account. Cinnamon is, after all, a potent multiplier for prosperity spells.

14. What does cinnamon mean in divination?

Cinnamon is powerful on so many levels. Many magical practitioners, mediums, and witches use it in their divination practices. Some ways might be to gently blow cinnamon over the table or space you’ll be using before divining. Washing your hands in a gentle cinnamon hand wash before reading the runes or Tarot (be sure to always dilute cinnamon essential oil with a carrier oil as it will burn the skin!) or even burning a cinnamon candle during a session.

15. Blow Cinnamon through the Front Door (TikTok Trick)

One tip that went viral on TikTok involves taking a small handful of cinnamon and blowing it through your front door on the first of every month to encourage prosperity to flow into the home. I’ve done this a few times and have seen definite results!

Lammas/Lughnasadh Pagan Holiday

Lammas or Lughnasadh is a Pagan holiday celebrated on August 1st. It symbolizes the end of the summer period (yes, even though you may not want to hear that we are on our way to the end) and the beginning of magical fall.

The Lammas holiday is also closely connected to the harvest season.

It is traditionally believed that the period of Lammas celebration was very important in the religious communities, not only from the perspective of Pagan or Christian traditions  but also due to its agricultural significance.

Lammas versus Lughnasadh. What Is The Difference?

First of all, let’s talk about terminology a bit.

Lammas comes from Anglo-Saxon hlaf-mas, "loaf-mass", therefore also known as Loaf Mass Day and it is a Christian holiday.

The celebration of this holiday by the Christian community is in part similar to what we will be discussing later. The holiday signifies a period of being blessed by the first gifts of the harvest season. The wheat collected is often used to make the Lammas bread that would later be brought to church for a blessing.

Lughnasadh or Lughnasa is the name used by the “Neopagan” community and just as Lammas, marks the beginning of the harvest period. It is the time when we are grateful for the abundance of the Mother Earth.

How to pronounce Lughnasadh?

The term Lughnasadh comes from the Irish spelling of the word. The Modern way of Irish  pronunciation is Lúnasa and pronounced Loo-nuh-suh. The Classical pronunciation is /’luɣ.nə.səð/ like LUGH-nuh-sudh (where “gh” is pronounced as i a word "give" and the “dh” is like the “th” in “that”.) It is probably the most correct pronunciation of Lughnasadh, as Lugh or Lug is the God from Irish mythology and the one this holiday is dedicated to at the first place.

How Lammas Originated?

Lammas came from a desire of people to thank and celebrate the “father” Sun and the Mother Earth for the fruits of their “love” - the harvest.

To bless the marriage of God and Goddess and ask for a buy dance and prosperity in the upcoming months.

It was considered that August 1st marks the first day of fall. And on August 2nd it was already the time to pick up the harvest and so the days of hunger and need would we over.

The holiday was widely celebrated in:

Ireland: the name Lughnasadh comes from the Irish God Lugh and is translated at “the marriage of Lugh.

Scotland

Isle of Man

In Slavic countries (called “medovyi spas”)

Let’s Talk More About The Harvest.

When we hear “Lammas”, we often think about the period of harvest right away. It is the most talked about moment of Lammas or Lughnasadh but we need to truly understand what stands behind the concept of harvest.

If you are a careful reader, you have noticed I specifically say the beginning of harvest. I also want to explain more what I mean by the time of being grateful.

You see, Lammas is the day of the beginning of the harvest period and NOT the time when we are assessing the outcome and are drawing conclusions of how successful we’ve been (there will be another holiday dedicated to this, called Mabon).

But the first day of harvest is the time when the quality of life changes. It is the time when it becomes predictable what expectations we can have and taste the first ripe fruits.

Simply put, it is the moment when something you worked so hard on, finally becomes tangible and it also becomes YOURS.

A skill you were developing is almost acquired but not to the point when it becomes a reflex. The investments you’ve made are starting to produce some cash flow but still need your attention.

You also need to understand that it is not possible to continuously perfect something or wait for an opportune moment.  At some point, you need to release into the world what you have the way it is and improve things on the go.

Where am I going with this philosophical deviation, you probably are wondering…

This is what Lammas period really is about. It is the time when we transition from preparation to action.

What does it mean for you in real life situation?

Lammas gives you are opportunity of the perfect time to do something you were afraid of doing.

It may be that you were working on a website for your very own blog but we’re too afraid to press that “publish” button, thinking it is not perfect yet.

Or you may have been writing a book but haven’t started to search for a publisher, changing and tweaking things in an attempt for it to be perfect.

You may have been doing research for a new job you always wanted or university program you wanted to apply for but haven’t felt ready to finally made the move and submit an application.

Do you see the pattern?

Lammas is the time when you were ALREADY in the process of doing something but haven’t had the energy for the final step. And this period of the first week of August is for you to pull yourself together and make the move.

And when Mabon comes, we will be assessing the results of our actions.

Do Some Lammas Divination Work

The period from July 31st to August 6th is the perfect time for divination work. Tarot, Runes and oracles will provide with great messages, especially in career/money (material) and love questions (especially compatibility related).

Don’t forget to show gratitude to the Universe and Mother Earth. It is important to maintain the energy exchange, at the very least with the well known gratitude and love practices.

Show gratitude towards others too, don’t forget to show acknowledgment and say “thank you”.

Make Lammas Bread

During this period, it is the great time to infuse your food and drinks with the energy of love and gratitude, as well as thank the Source and the Planet for its generosity. Of course, the best way to celebrate this holidays is to make Lammas bread. I am giving you this quick bread recipe that does not require a lot of products or special skills

Lammas Abundance Bread Recipe

For this little Ritual you will need to make (not buy!) corn bread.

Lammas Bread Ingredients:

1 1/2 cup of corn flour

1 1/2 cup wheat flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 cup of sugar 2 tbs of cooled down melted butter

4 cups of milk

2 tsp of baking powder

Instructions:

Mix flour and salt together in a deep bowl.In a separate bowl with milk add baking powder;  then add sugar and butter.Mix all the ingredients together in one bowl until the consistency is that of a sour cream. It will not be similar to regular bread dough you may be making at home.

*While you are mixing, talk into the bowl anything you want to accomplish that is related to the abundance. Whatever the abundance means to YOU. It does not have to be financial. Maybe you will feel abundant and complete when you have a large family. Then go for it.

Pour the Lammas bread dough into a baking dish (don't forget to butter the dish). Bake for about 40-50 minutes at 360 degrees F.When the colour is nice and golden, take the bread out and let it cool.

When you sit down for a meal, break off (not cut) a large piece of Lammas bread and say: "Large piece of bread in my hand will bring me abundance and plenty." Don’t forget to share your food with the Gods (leave some bread in nature, the way you see fit and depending on the type of deity you are working with.)

Lughnasadh Home Blessing and Abundance Ritual

This ritual can be done during the same time as you are making your Lammas bread.

It is done to invite luck and abundance into your home. BUT. You can change your intent to protection, if you’d like.

All you need to do is to set aside some dough when you are making it for your break and create a figure of an animal. My personal suggestion is to select a farm animal due to the nature of the energy of this holiday.

When you are done, you will need to follow basic figure talisman activation steps. I have adapted the suggestions of Vadim Zeland for this.

Animal activation steps:

Come up with a name for your animal

Take a deep breath. Now breathe into the animal, imagining giving it energy and life.

Tell the animal its name. Tell it that you love and care for it and, in exchange, it's helping you with (whatever you want to ask for).

Place the animal anywhere in the house, depending on the task you give it.

Don't forget to revisit daily and remind the animal of your love and the important task it is doing for you.
