Ireland is in the midst of a social revolution and it’s having a profound impact on our art. Where once we lived in the shadow of the cross, we are now cosmopolitan Europeans creating a post-Catholic society, exploring and re-identifying what it means to be Irish in a globalised world. Our art has exploded with ferocious energy to meet this moment. Prophet Song seems to me a global novel, but it is indisputably Irish.

kids who werent raised christian being like "lol baptising children is whack if they tried to do that to me i would start doing things to make it look like i was possessed" no you would not. you would bask in the pride and approval coming from the adults around you and you would quietly wait your turn because you were told from birth that sinning sends you to hell and baptism is The Promise that youre dedicating your life to jesus that youve had hyped up for years and watched other people be fawned over as they cry happy tears about it and you do NOT want to fuck up your One Big True Promise To Love Jesus Forever So You Don't Get Tortured For Eternity when you are literally 8 years old. im begging yall to remember its a thousand times easier to see the church's bullshit for what it is when you're not actively in the church. eight year old you is not thinking about trying to fight back against an oppressive religious group indoctrinating children because You Are The Children Being Indoctrinated. stop acting like you would've magically known better if it were you.

I must say. I have never, in my life, seen such a display of divine punishment. It was almost poetic, like a hero from the epics of old rising in vengence and rage, a symbol of the people. As someone vehemently against the death penalty I should feel disgusted, but I really cannot help but be in awe at this man.
Sometimes, money and power rise you so above justice that you must be brought down to earth and reminded you're mortal. The passing of a soul is always a shame, but when a soul kills thousands and views lives as mere numbers to fill his pockets? I may no longer be that religious, but I will say even Jesus Cristo - known hater of the rich and despiser of fucking other people over - would find it hard to keep up with "love each other as I have loved you" motto. Perhaps that's why he's a religious figure and I am not, for my heart hasn't experienced this catharsis in ages.

Welcome to the reverse verse! This is part 1 of 2 of a commission for @i-am-as-normal-as-you-are and I can't wait to tell you all about it, because I'm incapable of being normal and chill about these concepts, so I ran with it.
Charles Rowland was born in 1900, his mum was from India and moved to the UK after marrying Charles' dad, a soldier who was not... very loving. Charles' heritage gave him some problems, but none as bad as that one time in 1916 when he was sacrificed to a demon and spent the next 7 decades in Hell. He doesn't like to talk about it, except when it can get him what he wants. He was always an angry boy, or so he thought, but after his time spent in Hell, it became so much worse. He's explosive and unpredictable, and so he mostly avoids conflict. He doesn't need to fight anyone, as his charming personality and sweet smile (plus a few smart calculations) always seem to be enough to convince people to give him what he asks for. And when the fight is inevitable... well, he has Edwin for that!
Edwin Payne grew up very sheltered, in a deeply religious home, and he is proud of that. Don't try to argue with him, because he surely has a Bible verse that will help him win (and if not, he is not above using his croquet mallet now that he has someone to keep safe). Unfortunately for him, he realized at a quite young age that he felt attraction towards other boys. Even worse, somehow other people could tell as well, including those peers that ended up killing him for it (the rumour spread throughout school was that he had died due to AIDS, and most people just accepted it). He never acted on those unnatural urges of his, but when he met this ghost who had just escaped Hell... he decided not to risk eternal damnation, and to stay here with Charles, instead. Edwin has no interest in the supernatural or in magic, and sort of looks down on them, but luckily his friend's got that covered.

Thinking about artist Bruce, specifically sculptor! Bruce.
That man commands every material that can be molded and shaped and he’s an entire monster with details.
Those amazingly elaborated statues where you can see every crease, every fabric fold, where every line is crisp and organic, except it’s Jason’s statue in the mausoleum.
Is this just because I want Bruce to casually walk up to Talia, run his hands over the soft of her stomach and waist and nod in understanding before walking off, leaving her a confused mess? Maybe.

ok sure you don't believe in god or the church anymore but what are you doing to unlearn the propaganda you wre taught? what are you doing to educate yourself about marginalized groups that the church attacked and that you absorbed subconsciously? how are you challenging your viewpoints on things such as addiction, sexuality, poverty, other religions, disabilities, illness, race, and more without it being through a christian lens? are you careful to not spread propaganda or harmful ideologies? youre ‘reclaiming shit for your poetry and healing and thats great i guess, i wish you the best, but what have you actually renounced?

thinking about how law was (apparently??) being raised in the one piece catholic church™. thinking about how he specifically refers to the victories of the strawhats as miracles. thinking about how luffy has a god's devil fruit. thinking about law inclining his head and closing his eyes like he's praying towards the end of gear 5 luffy fighting kaido. is this anything.

cannot get enough of fathers loving their babies. A guy at the airport just picked up his little girl who was having a screaming tantrum and carried her off talking soothingly to her. The man in front of me at church the other week had his 3ish y/o son on his lap and spent the whole of mass just absentmindedly kissing the child’s head. Every few minutes he would just lean forward and give him a lil smooch. My brother is so mad about his daughter, she lights up and giggles whenever she sees him. She’s not even six months old but when he picks her up, she starts babbling and pressing her face into him as though she loves the way he smells. There’s something about it.

*at Teen!Soap's house*
Teen!Soap: I mean, it's basically a form of BDSM
Teen!Ghost: It's not that intense-
Mrs. MacTavish, passing by the room: What's BDSM?
Teen!Soap: UH-!?
Teen!Ghost, quickly: It's short for Buddhism!
Mrs. MacTavish: Oh! I didn't know that. Hm *walks away*
Teen!Soap, horrified: *quietly* Oh my god
Teen!Ghost: Oh, certainly that won't lead to any interesting conversations in a Catholic household
Teen!Soap: Oh my god-
Teen!Ghost: She converted your dad, right? Wonder if he knows-
Teen!Soap: Please stop talking
