Wow, it sounds like a crime novel rather than real life!
A group of criminals posed as academics and took rare books, mostly of Russian classics, from European libraries. At the due date, they would return the books, but it turned out, those were only high-quality copies. The original books probably are gone forever, sold on private auctions in Moscow and Saint Pete.
It could be a very suspenseful and beautiful criminal drama...

The United States Department of Justice on Wednesday announced charges against a 35-year-old Chinese national, Yunhe Wang, accused of operating a massive botnet allegedly linked to billions of dollars in fraud, child exploitation, and bomb threats, among other crimes.
Wang, identified by numerous pseudonyms—Tom Long and Jack Wan, among others—was arrested on May 24 and is accused of distributing malware through various pop-up VPN services, such as “ProxyGate” and “MaskVPN,” and by embedding viruses in internet files distributed via peer-to-peer networks known as torrents.
The malware is said to have compromised computers located in nearly every country in the world, turning them into proxies through which criminals were able to hide their identities while committing countless crimes. According to prosecutors in the US, this included the theft of billions of dollars slated for Covid-19 pandemic relief—funds allegedly stolen by foreign actors posing as unemployed US citizens.
According to an indictment, the infected computers allegedly provided Wang’s customers with a persistent backdoor, allowing them to disguise themselves as any one of the victims of Wang’s malware. This illicit proxy service, known as “911 S5,” launched as early as 2014, the US government says.
“The 911 S5 Botnet infected computers in nearly 200 countries and facilitated a whole host of computer-enabled crimes, including financial frauds, identity theft, and child exploitation,” says FBI director Christopher Wray, who described the illicit service as “likely the world’s largest botnet ever.”
The US Treasury Department has also sanctioned Wang and two other individuals allegedly tied to 911 S5.
Wang is said to have amassed access to nearly 614,000 IP addresses in the US and more than 18 million others worldwide—collectively forming the botnet. 911 S5’s customers were able to filter the IPs geographically to choose where they’d like to appear to be located, down to a specific US zip code, the DOJ claims.
The indictment states that of the 150 dedicated servers used to manage the botnet, as many as 76 were leased by US-based service providers, including the one hosting 911 S5’s client interface, which allowed criminals overseas to purchase goods using stolen credit cards, in many cases for the alleged purpose of circumventing US export laws.
More than half a million fraudulent claims lodged with pandemic relief programs in the United States are allegedly tied to 911 S5. According to the indictment, nearly $6 billion in losses have been linked to IP addresses captured by 911 S5. Many of the IP addresses have been reportedly tied to more insidious crimes, including bomb threats and the trafficking of child sexual abuse material, or CSAM.
“Proxy services like 911 S5 are pervasive threats that shield criminals behind the compromised IP addresses of residential computers worldwide,” says Damien Diggs, the US attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, where the charges against Wang were brought by a grand jury earlier this month.
Adds Nicole Argentieri, head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division: “These criminals used the hijacked computers to conceal their identities and commit a host of crimes, from fraud to cyberstalking.”
At the time of writing, it is unclear whether these virtual impersonations resulted in any criminal investigations or charges against US-based victims whose IP addresses were hijacked as part of the 911 S5 botnet. WIRED is awaiting a response from the Department of Justice regarding this concern.
According to the Justice Department, law enforcement agencies in Singapore, Thailand, and Germany collaborated with US authorities to effect Wang’s arrest.
Wang faces charges of conspiracy, computer fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to money laundering, with a maximum penalty of 65 years in prison. The US is also seeking to seize a mountain of luxury cars and goods allegedly owned by Wang, including a 2022 Ferrari Spider valued at roughly half a million dollars as well as a Patek Philippe watch worth potentially several times that amount.

been thinking lately about how macavity has "broken every human law" and like-- they're cats tho, what do they actually know about human laws? yeah, yeah, bomb says he cheats at cards, that sounds pretty human, but the rest is just. stuff someone would scold their pet cat for: breaking a window somehow. making a mess of the garden. getting into the milk. stealing trinkets - maybe macavity's into jewelry, but it's not much different from cats who steal hair ties or socks or makeup brushes or whatever else. "stifling" a peke- is this just, like, sitting on its head or actually murdering it? either way, it's sounding to me like this criminal mastermind is someone's asshole murdercat who never gets in trouble bc he is in fact a beloved pet and the owner is not responsible enough to keep him from escaping the house and menacing the local animal population. or alternatively: perhaps he doesn't ever get in trouble bc he does not have human owners to scold him, so he destroys a bunch of shit with no consequences. and i fully believe a cat like that could very much pose a threat to the other cats around, being violent or aggressive with the queens (demeter) and fighting with the toms (munkustrap, alonzo) and bullying the seniors (deut), but his "crimes" are still... cat crimes. the jellicles understand that clearly the humans don't want them doing that, but it's not, like, tax fraud or grand theft auto
the biggest difference between macavity and other cats who are noted to be naughty or mischievous or cause problems on purpose (mungojerrie and rumpelteazer, for example, or even rum tum tugger or mistoffelees) is his aggression toward the other cats. he cannot get along as a member of their society. this is what makes him a villain, not his alleged criminality (which is, tbh, cat-standard asshole behavior). and the lesson the other the jellicles must learn is not to show similar antisocial bullying and aggression towards grizabella.

The news that Palestinian Authority summer camps are training children to use weapons and glorify terrorists is a troubling reminder that some regimes view children as little more than tools to be exploited.
Hundreds of thousands of children have been used as soldiers in various international conflicts in recent decades, according to human rights groups.
The Ugandan rebel group known as the “Lord’s Resistance Army” has made the abduction and enslavement of children “its main method of recruitment,” experts say.
In Bolivia, an estimated 40% of the army consists of teenagers who were forcibly conscripted.
The participation of Palestinian Arab children in terrorism against Israelis has become so commonplace that it has attracted the attention of Palestinian advocates in the United States. They’ve persuaded a handful of members of Congress to introduce legislation to restrict U.S. aid to Israel if the Israeli military detains minors who engage in violence.
A Nazi Version of Cinderella
Dictators in previous generations likewise prioritized training children to hate and kill. Adolf Hitler, for example, viewed Germany’s schools as a breeding ground for raising an entire generation of Nazis.
Following Hitler’s rise to power, German school curricula were radically revised to reflect Nazi ideas, and traditional text books were replaced with Nazi versions. Biology texts now advocated the theory of “Aryan” racial superiority. Atlases focused on the alleged danger to Germany posed by surrounding nations and the supposed theft from Germany of various territories. History books presented justifications for renewed German militarism. The Nazis even concocted their own version of Cinderella, with the prince choosing a racially pure young heroine and rebuffing her racially alien stepmother.
At a press conference in September 1934, President Franklin D. Roosevelt expressed concern that the German government seemed to be preparing young people for war with Germany’s neighbors. He related a story he heard from an American tourist in Germany, about an eight year-old German boy who in his bedtime prayers each night would say, “Dear God, please permit it that I shall die with a French bullet in my heart.”
Unfortunately, that did not change FDR’s policy of maintaining friendly diplomatic and trade relations with Nazi Germany in the 1930s.
Disney Exposes the Nazis
During World War Two, Disney created a series of short cartoon films to support the American war effort and expose the nature of Nazism. They were shown in movie theaters, prior to the main feature. One especially striking nine-minute film was called “Education for Death: The Making of the Nazi.”
The storyline follows a German child, Hans, as the Nazi school system turns him into a worshipper of Hitler. When Hans’s teacher shows the pupils a fox capturing and eating a rabbit, Hans makes the innocent mistake of expressing sympathy for “the poor rabbit.” As punishment, he has to put on a dunce camp and sit in a corner, while another student gives the “correct” answer: “The world belongs to the strong
The rabbit is a coward and deserves to die.”
Finally surrendering to peer pressure, Hans agrees that the rabbit was “a weakling” who got what it deserved. The teacher then provides the moral of the story: the German people are “an unconquerable super race” who will “destroy all weak and cowardly nations.”
The Disney narrator describes how Hans’s upbringing then proceeds with endless “marching and ‘Heil’-ing, ‘Heil’-ing and marching.” The little boy becomes almost a robot, blindly heeding the Nazi Party’s orders to “trample on the rights of others.” The narrator concludes: “For now his education is complete–his education for death.”
Nazi-educated German children filled the ranks of the Hitler Youth movement. Its members took part in numerous atrocities, from forcing Vienna’s Jews to scrub the streets with toothbrushes in 1938, to the mass shooting of Jews swimming from sinking boats in the German harbor of Lubeck, just before Germany’s surrender in 1945.
In addition, many of those who graduated from Hitler Youth joined the Gestapo and participated in the mass murder of European Jewry. While other branches of the Nazi apparatus collapsed or surrendered in the waning days of World War II, Hitler Youth remained fanatically loyal to their Fuhrer to the very end, which is why they are often mentioned in accounts of atrocities that were perpetrated in the spring of 1945.
Menachem Weinryb, an Auschwitz survivor who was forced to take part in a death march from Poland to Germany, later recalled how when the prisoners reached the Belsen area on April 13, 1945, the German guards went to a nearby town “and returned with a lot of young people from the Hitler Youth [and local policemen]
They chased us all into a large barn
we were five to six thousand people
[They] poured out petrol and set the barn on fire. Several thousand people were burned alive.”

Who is the "Abƫ Fātßmā Al-Tûrkī" Tùkfīrī group?!
In the year 2014, a group of extremists of tĂąkfÄ«r appeared in the second countryside of al-MĂ»hĂąndĂźsĂźn, known nowadays as “HāzmĂźyāh” (followers of the misguided al-HazmÄ«). AlÄ« al-MĂąsrÄ«" and "AbĆ« AbdĂ»llāh al-AzĂąrÄ«", which is an extension of a takfÄ«rÄ« group that existed in AzĂȘrbùßjān before the Syrian revolution, also believes that the origin of people is disbelief.
After the spread of their corruption, Jùbhùt al-Nûsrā surrounded their headquarters and arrested approximately 40 people, so the heads of the takfīrī group were brought to justice, while the rest were expelled outside the liberated area, because they declared all Islāmic peoples and the Mûjāhßd factions to be infidels, and at that time this malicious group was eliminated.
The expelled from the liberated moved to the areas of control of State in the eastern region, then they declared state and its alleged successor to be infidels because they were affiliated with the Hazmßyßdīs in it, so State oppressed them and chased them. They established a battalion called "Jûnd al-Khßlāfā" in and around the Dùnù area, and after the establishment some of them returned to the state, and the other part remained in the liberation.
Then they began to assemble themselves again, starting from Al-Dùnå, then they moved to the Tûrkmen Mountain, and the reason for choosing the Tûrkmen Mountain is to have a foothold for them so that they are far from the attention of the Commission, and to facilitate the disappearance of wanted persons and criminals.
Their leaders:
- Founder: "AbĆ« FātĂźmā al-TĂ»rkÄ«" - killed more than three years ago - - The current official: AbĆ« HĂąnÄ«g Al-AzĂąrĂź Representative: AbĂ» JābĂźr Al-AzĂąrĂź - General ShĂąrÄ«'Ăąh: AbĂ» Al-FĂźdā Al-JĂązāĂȘry - Communication Officer: AbĆ« Abdul Rahmān Al-AzĂąrĂź General Military: AbĆ« KhĂąlÄ«l al-AzĂąrĂź - ÂmÄ«r of JĂąbĂąl al-TĂ»rkman: HĂąmzā al-AzĂąrĂź - Ansār official: AbdĂ»l BāsĂźt Al-DĂąnĂą.
About a year and a half ago - they decided to pledge allegiance to State again, despite their apostasy for it, and the reason is to obtain material and logistical support from State, but the response from State came with a refusal, because they are takfÄ«rÄ«, assertive, KhĂąrĂźjĂźtĂȘs!
The Abƫ Fātßmā al-Tûrkß group is a group whose members are mostly Takfßrß Azùrßs, and their number ranges from 130 to 150 members, all those who are in the liberation are declared infidels, (common people, mûjāhßdīn, factions). A 6-month repentance cycle, until he completes his repentance and re-converts to Islām, after which he will be able to work in their ranks.
Because of their misguided beliefs, their blasphemy for all, and their destitution for their money and blood, they live on woodcutter, theft, and murder from factions and commoners, and they have no material income except from these matters.
Among their crimes, they killed "Abdûllùh Al-Tûrki", and "Abƫ Sulāymān" - who was buying and selling cars for them, they killed him because of their dispute over a car - and their wood for several other cars.
Their area has become a safe haven for criminals, all those who have security issues, moral problems, and criminal crimes from extremists and other factions, go to them and take shelter with them, and the area has become there - a hotbed for criminals and murderers - and their current situation poses a security and military threat to the region! The area is threatened militarily, and whoever rejects all those in the liberated area will not defend them, but will withdraw from the first shot!
About five months ago, HTS entered with force for the Tûrkmen, and began arranging the front and preparing it militarily in anticipation of any military action by the regime against it, and HTS has 7 mooring points in the Tûrkmen Mountain, and it is still continuing to take other points to block the Tûrkmen front and not leave any gap in it.
These arrangements of the commission on the TĂ»rkmen front did not appeal to the takfÄ«rÄ« group, so these takfÄ«rÄ«s created problems and put up barriers in the roads and their presence became a detriment to all the military factions, in addition to their abandonment of the bondage and stifling of the criminal regime, their turning back and the destruction of the factions’ headquarters and warehouses, and their readiness to fight the MĂ»jāhĂźdÄ«n at the beginning opportunity for them.
Therefore, it is necessary to cut their horn and stop their evil.
I have seen many youths who fall in their trap and declaring masses Kûffār because of their weakness in Aqīdùh!!
Will highlight more points regarding them(Hāzmīs) in future also In shā Allāh!!
May Allāh protect Mûwāhīdīn from their fßtnā!!

ANGELA DAVIDA MILLER IS A DANGEROUS SCAMMER IN GEORGIA AND NO ONE IS STOPPING HER
A scammer in Atlanta has stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars
In an increasingly interconnected world, the importance of genuine relationships and trust cannot be overstated. Unfortunately, some individuals exploit these bonds for personal gain. In the last year or two, reports have emerged about a woman who pretends to be a lesbian to build friendships and scam unsuspecting lesbian women. This alarming trend not only highlights the vulnerabilities within the LGBTQ+ community but also underscores the need for awareness and caution.
Tumblr media
This blog post is regarding an individual named Angela Davida Miller, who has been involved in fraudulent activities for at least 2 decades. Yes, TWO WHOLE DAMN DECADES!
It is important to note that some of “Angela’s” arrest records list her as a black male. I am not sure why. I also have a lot more info on her that I will share with the authorities. After she is caught I will share everything publicly. I want to keep some info private because she is going to read this. I am sending her the link. Your days are numbered Miss Angela. SOON AND VERY SOON DEAR.
Angela Miller, previously arrested for identity theft in Oconee, GA in 2013, has been reported to have strategically embedded herself in the lesbian community to conceal her troubled history. It is alleged that she exploited her connections within this community to not only steal money from friends, but also to build friendships with women who work in Human Resources so that she could successfully target job seekers, posing as an employer and deceiving individuals into sharing sensitive personal information. This behavior is reported to have escalated during the Covid-19 pandemic. Angela Miller used employment sites like Indeed & Ziprecruiter to schedule zoom and WhatsApp calls with job seekers. After putting them through the process of a fake interview, she would then claim that the applicant was hired, and ask them to fill out W2 forms with personal information like social security numbers, address etc. This was a way to access their personal information and steal their identity. Angela Miller also used a website that she built to scam content creators. She is also accused of engaging in online sex trafficking. I will elaborate more on this with law enforcement but I prefer to not mention much about the sex trafficking publicly for the safety of any potential victims. I want to quickly mention that it is essential to exercise caution when interacting with individuals claiming to be employers, especially during these challenging times.
After her arrest in 2013 for identity theft, clearly “Angela” did not learn her lesson. She is still collecting information and flying under the radar. Here’s the link to info on the 2013 arrest.

After I realized that Angela is a scammer I reported her to the FBI, FTC, NYPD & NJ police (I was living in NYC & also had access to my friends rental property in NJ. So I utilized both police departments). I also made a call to her mother Carolyn Madison of Albany, GA. Her mother did not flinch. She was not surprised. She actually told me that Angela had recently tried to get $1000 from her also. She offered to pay me back in installments to keep her scamming offspring out of jail. I repeatedly refused because her mom did not steal my money, ANGELA DID. But her mom literally begged. Angela found out about the agreement and told her mother not to pay me because I AM THE SCAMMER AND I NEVER GAVE HER ANY MONEY. I then reported the incident to Albany police because a mutual friend told me that Angela was actually living in Albany, GA with her mom. So I tried to hunt her down online but eventually all roads led back to Atlanta. However, during my interaction with Albany police I was treated horribly. Basically I was the yankee who was trying to make their town look bad. I wish that I could remember the officers name but I don’t have it in my notes. If I ever recall I will surely update this article because he should be FIRED. As far as the reports made in NY & NJ, nothing was done about the theft because Angela is a resident of Atlanta. I was told to take her to small claims court and/or report her to Atl PD. I tried to report her to ATLPD by phone but officer V. Pitts of ATL also refused to properly investigate. So I decided to fly to Atlanta. I arrived in Atlanta on April 1st 2024. It took a few weeks but eventually she walked right into my sights.
On April 26th 2024, I encountered Angela at a bar in Atlanta named “My Sister’s Room”. It seemed like she was on good terms with some of the staff there. When I approached her about her fraudulent activities INCLUDING money that she stole from me, she immediately denied everything. As the noise level inside the bar increased, we were asked to continue our heated conversation outside. This is when I started recording our conversation. When I questioned her about the stolen money, she first agreed to pay me back. She asked if I preferred cashapp or zelle. But suddenly attempted to walk away. I followed her to a building called 77 12th which is around the corner from the bar. I was right behind her and saw that she attempted to scan a card to gain access to the building. As I approached, she became frantic and ran upstairs instead, then used the card again to access the parking lot. When I tried to follow her, she forcibly prevented me by repeatedly slamming a door on my arm. Despite her escape, I managed to capture the entire incident on video. The following day, I visited the building and inquired about her, sharing her picture with the doorman and the leasing office staff. THE MANAGER WAS EXTREMELY RUDE FOR WHATEVER REASON! However, I was able to learn from other employees that she does not reside there, but works for a company called National Corporate Housing as a cleaner for the apartments in the building. NOW WAIT! This woman who has at least 3 felonies is accessing people’s apartments? This scammer who has stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars is cleaning apartments for a living? I guess my ancestors and spirit guides decided to knock her right into poverty. Be careful when trying to harm those of us who are spiritually protected, Miss Angela. There is more to come. Your downfall is just beginning. Anywho, after I learned of her humble employment I immediately called National Corporate Housing and spoke to the Atlanta manager whose name is Ryan. I explained the situation to him and informed him that she has a troubling criminal history. He insisted that the company did not employ anyone by that name. Of course, I suggested that maybe she is using a fake name? I asked him to please google her mugshot and see if the distinctive oddly shaped face was familiar. He claimed that he did not recognize her, but promised to investigate and follow up soon. That was April 27th, 2024.
I reported the entire incident to the Smyrna, Georgia police and Atlanta police. However, despite the overwhelming evidence, Detective Brian Pyle of Smyrna PD has chosen not to pursue any investigation or take action against Angela Miller, despite her clear fraudulent activities. He informed me that this is a civil matter and I should take her to small claims court. This is not civil. This was theft by deception. I already filed in small claims court and because Angela is a grifter, the Marshalls could not find her to have her served. She KNEW this when she stole the money from me and others. She knew that she was planning to move around soon and collected from many women before disappearing.
July rolls around and still no word from Ryan but I got a tip that Angela is collecting social security numbers on Indeed. So on July 16th, 2024 I made a few calls to see what is going on with National Corporate Housing. Ryan told me that the company investigated and they never employed Angela. He was very nervous and rude, and when I presented him with the evidence that she did work for the company, he accused me of being an angry black woman and insisted that the woman in the news article was never employed or affiliated with NCH. I later spoke to his boss who was a lot more cooperative. I’m not sure what Ryan is trying to hide but his behavior was really suspicious. I will be following up with his boss to find out how Angela was hired. What name did she use? Whose identity did she steal to get this job that she clearly needs because she can’t successfully scam during inflation? Was it yours?
The disturbing case of a woman pretending to be a lesbian to scam unsuspecting lesbian women is a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk online. It is time for law enforcement to take decisive action to stop these malicious activities. We should all call on law enforcement agencies to prioritize the investigation and prosecution of this devious scammer. The time for action is now. Angela Miller is targeting job seekers, elderly people & the LGBTQ community in Atlanta & she must be stopped, and it is up to both law enforcement and the community to ensure this happens. We urge the dedicated detectives of Atlanta to prioritize this case, allocate the necessary resources, and work tirelessly to bring this criminal to justice. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that justice is served.
If you have any information about scamming thieving Angela Davida Miller or have been affected by their actions, please reach out to me personally! Your voice and your story can help make a difference. Let us unite to create a safer and more trustworthy America for everyone.

U.S. Government to Ban Kaspersky Antivirus Software Amid Cybersecurity Concerns
Tumblr media
To bolster national cybersecurity, the Biden administration announced plans on Thursday to prohibit the sale of antivirus software produced by Russia's Kaspersky Lab in the United States. The decision comes as concerns mount over potential Russian exploitation of the software to gather sensitive information from American computers.
Commerce Secretary Highlights Cybersecurity Risks
During a briefing call with reporters, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo emphasized the risks associated with Kaspersky's software. "Russia has demonstrated both the capability and intent to exploit Russian companies like Kaspersky to collect and weaponize Americans' personal information," Raimondo stated, underscoring the urgency of the action. The software's privileged access to computer systems could potentially enable the theft of sensitive data or the installation of malware, posing a significant threat to national security. This risk is particularly acute given Kaspersky's large U.S. customer base, which includes critical infrastructure providers and state and local governments.
New Regulations and Trade Restrictions
The comprehensive new rule, leveraging broad powers established during the Trump administration, will be implemented alongside the addition of three Kaspersky units to a trade restriction list. This dual approach aims to not only limit the software's presence in the U.S. market but also to impact the company's global reputation and overseas sales. Key points of the new regulations include: - A ban on inbound sales of Kaspersky software, including updates and licensing, effective September 29, 2024. - Prohibition of new U.S. business for Kaspersky 30 days after the announcement - Restrictions on white-labeled products incorporating Kaspersky technology. - Addition of two Russian and one UK-based Kaspersky units to the entity list, limiting their access to U.S. suppliers.
Implications for U.S. Cybersecurity Strategy
The ban on Kaspersky software reflects the Biden administration's broader strategy to mitigate the risks of Russian cyberattacks and maintain pressure on Moscow amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. It also demonstrates the government's willingness to utilize new authorities to restrict transactions between U.S. firms and technology companies from "foreign adversary" nations like Russia and China. Senator Mark Warner, chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, expressed support for the decision, stating, "We would never give an adversarial nation the keys to our networks or devices, so it's crazy to think that we would continue to allow Russian software with the deepest possible device access to be sold to Americans."
Kaspersky's History of Regulatory Scrutiny
This is not the first time Kaspersky has faced regulatory challenges in the United States. In 2017, the Department of Homeland Security banned Kaspersky's flagship antivirus product from federal networks, citing potential ties to Russian intelligence and concerns over Russian laws that could compel the company to assist intelligence agencies. Media reports at the time alleged Kaspersky's involvement in the transfer of hacking tools from a National Security Agency employee to the Russian government, though Kaspersky denied any intentional involvement.
Enforcement and Implications for Users
Under the new rules, sellers and resellers violating the restrictions will face fines from the Commerce Department, with the possibility of criminal charges for willful violations. While software users will not face legal penalties, they will be strongly encouraged to discontinue use of Kaspersky products.
Kaspersky's Global Presence and Response
Kaspersky, which operates through a British holding company and maintains operations in Massachusetts, reported revenue of $752 million in 2022 from over 220,000 corporate clients across approximately 200 countries. The company's client base includes prominent organizations such as Italian vehicle maker Piaggio, Volkswagen's retail division in Spain, and the Qatar Olympic Committee. As of the announcement, Kaspersky Lab and the Russian Embassy had not responded to requests for comment. The company has previously maintained that it is a privately managed entity without ties to the Russian government. As the cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve, the U.S. government's decision to ban Kaspersky software underscores the growing importance of securing digital infrastructure against potential foreign threats. The move is likely to have far-reaching implications for both the cybersecurity industry and international relations in the digital age. Read the full article

Multiple Texas families say they fell victim to a life insurance scheme where a man pretended to be a funeral director to get their information.
Javian Major, who also posed as a mortician, is accused of operating an illegal funeral business in Houston and taking advantage of people who lost their loved ones, KPRC-TV reported. The 26-year-old’s alleged accomplice, 38-year-old Sandy Broussard, was charged with theft.
“Allegedly, the duo conspired to forge beneficiaries’ signatures, illicitly obtaining life insurance funds and stealing thousands. Some cases report the disappearance of loved ones’ remains,” Harris County Constable Precinct 1 said in a statement.
The office shared a video of victims calling for accountability and sharing their stories.
“Once he seen the policy was $20,000, he
signed my dad’s name and maxed out the policy,” one woman said at a news conference.
Rosen explained that Major told clients to give them insurance policy information, and when they did, he would forge the signatures, according to the report. That’s when he would scam them and collect the money.
In addition to the scheme, victims said that Major did not give their deceased loved ones a proper service, including failing to embalm their bodies correctly.
“When I walked in and I looked at my son, his body was bloated. He was dark,” another woman at the news conference recalled. “I had to run out the church because I couldn’t deal with the smell.”
He would reportedly hook his victims not only by impersonating a funeral director but sometimes also by claiming he’s a close friend of the person who died. One victim described him as a “good talker.”
Another person alleged: “He got a suit on. He looking real nice, you know, he’s like, ‘Oh, this is my business card,’ like, he got it all planned out just like a scammer does,” per the outlet.
The charges against Major and Broussard came after the Texas Funeral Service Commission referred officials to look into the case. Although the duo is out on bond, an investigation into the allegations is underway.
“It turns my stomach because you’re dealing with people at the most vulnerable time of their lives after they’ve lost somebody that they loved and cared for,” said the constable.

A commission done for a friend of their Pathfinder 2e character, Sebastian.
--
Case No.: 72153-0002
Date: Pharast 21, 4722 AR
Reporting Officer: Officer Loertan Smyth
Prepared By: T. Lightfoot
Description of Accident/Issue:
Criminal activity was reported by a citizen who wished to remain anonymous at 11:27 AM, 21 Pharast. A ‘pop-up stall’ had been constructed at the opening of the Grand Bazaar approx. 15 meters from The Resplendent Rose within Absalom’s Grand Bazaar. The stand consisted of a single proprietor, identified post-arrest as Sebastian Cortinea, 18 y/o human male. The stand had no title; Cortinea was noted as calling passersby for ‘discount art lessons’. Participants interviewed on-site gave consensus that this was not out of the ordinary, as The Resplendent Rose is noted to be a place of beauty and expression.
Cortinea asked patrons to sit on a chair on stage and pose. Lessons approx. 30 minutes per session followed, in which Cortinea explained rudimentary artistic practices, such as simple shape-drawing, copying a model’s appearance onto canvas, etc. Each model was compensated with a sketch of his own creation.
The anonymous citizen reported that they had misplaced a gold-plated clockwork device, purchased earlier the same day at The Clockwork Caravan. This citizen stated that they had the device before attending Cortinea’s stall, but noticed its absence approx. 10 minutes following their departure. They were one of the models of Cortinea’s stall.
Guards were dispatched to the site of the stall. At the time of their arrival, Cortinea was finishing a session. When approached, he began to deny allegations of theft. The dispatched guards state that they were distracted by a sudden clamor; when they turned to face Cortinea again, he had begun to run down the street.
Actions Taken:
Pursuit of the suspect began at 11:42 AM. Suspect utilized magical abilities to attempt to dissuade pursuit, such as creating small flames, telekinetically hurling projectiles at pursuing guards, and creating magical sounds of objects falling, breaking, etc. Suspect’s dexterity and apparent knowledge of hidden paths provided for a difficult chase; suspect was apprehended in an alleyway in the Coins District at 12:01 PM.
Suspect was handcuffed. The suspect was accompanied by a familiar, who was detained within a familiar satchel. Suspect and familiar were brought to a local guard outpost at 12:12 PM. All items and personal effects were confiscated, including a golden clockwork device matching the description of the anonymous citizenïżœïżœs, a small purse containing 15 gp, 12 sp, 32 cp, a length of wood identified as a broken wand, and two silver bracelets.
Report Summary:
Suspect was adequately detained and brought in for questioning. However, an oversight on the part of the interviewing officer resulted in the suspect escaping custody, reclaiming his items, and fleeing the scene. A bounty of 1 gp for information leading to the suspect’s arrest was placed, increased to 5 gp for the suspect’s capture.
Transcribed below is an interview with suspect Sebastian Cortinea, who was apprehended shortly following the incident.
--
Sebastian Cortinea: You could’ve been a bit less rough, you know. Don’t you have any idea how much handcuffs chafe?
Officer Loertan Smyth: Those who do not cooperate with the law are brought in as necessary.
Cortinea: Yeah, well, I don’t recall drawing being illegal.
Smyth: That isn’t the point and you know it. Now: name?
Cortinea: [sigh] Sebastian Cortinea.
Smyth: Age?
Cortinea: Too young for you.
Smyth: Be serious, Mr. Cortinea.
Cortinea: Jeez, no fun at all. 18.
Smyth: Residence?
Cortinea: Hopefully not here!
Smyth: Mr. Cortinea.
Cortinea: Is this what you always have to do? Take down such boring details? Come on, where’s the drama? I keep hearing about the guards of Absalom being these cool, badass figures. [Suspect raised hands, waving them in front of himself.] Where’s the pizzaz?
Smyth: Whatever rumors youïżœïżœve heard are of no consequence here. Now, please focus so we can get this over with. Do you understand precisely what it is you’ve done wrong?
Cortinea: [Suspect slumped back in his seat, right arm over the back of the chair.] No, honestly. It’s the Grand Bazaar. Aren’t people supposed to be able to make coin there? Besides, bringing a little art to the world isn’t bad, now is it?
Smyth: You were oper-
Cortinea: Ah-ah, lemme finish. Art, helping people learn to draw. Near a shop whose owner follows Shelyn, of all gods. I mean, c’mon! Doesn’t that sound right?
Smyth: [visibly irritated] Mr. Cortinea, you were running this stand without permission or permit. On top of this, you had stolen various personal belongings, denied allegations, fled the scene of a crime, and assaulted officers. You stand to be in jail for quite a long time.
Cortinea: Dunno what you’re talking about. I’m sitting right now.
Smyth: If you are not going to cooperate, I will call in my fellows and they’ll bring you to prison right now. Is that what you want?
Cortinea: Admittedly, no, but you’re not exactly giving me a lot of time to explain myself right now. Don’t I get the right to a fair trial? And to say my side of things, too! C’mon, man.
Smyth: [sigh] Very well. Then what exactly was the purpose of this ‘art stand’?
Cortinea: I just told you. I’m trying to spread the good word of art! Well- the good picture- you know what I mean. I was even compensating people! Who doesn’t want a nice portrait of themselves to hang up on their wall? People pay way more than I would’ve charged, and I gave it to them for free!
Smyth: And the items that had gone missing from the same people you drew?
Cortinea: Hey, it’s not my fault if people drop their things. Getting down from a stage can cause a little bouncing, y’know? People drop stuff. Besiiiides, holding onto their things is a favor. Someone might’ve actually stolen them if they just found ‘em on the ground!
Smyth: You will forgive the courts if they don’t believe you, I imagine.
Cortinea: Oh, I don’t think I’m gonna be talking to the courts at all. Yoink!
Smyth: Wh- hey!
[Suspect ran towards the door at this time, taking his leshy companion with him. The leshy was holding Officer Smyth’s keyring, and it was used to unlock the door. Pursuit began/]

Hold on and pump the brakes (x2)! The car is stopped. We're sitting on the hood and watching the sunset from the top of a cliff. We're talking and laughing. We hear a thud. There's a dent in the hood now. Fuck's sake.
Anyway,
First of all, abysmal article, OP. I get that you posted this very shortly after this became public news, but you gotta use reliable sources, friend [EDIT: I was mistaken here. AP is reliable from what I can tell and this article's uniquely abysmal. Sorry OP.]. Martin was taken wildly out of context here, and I'm pretty sure the statement from OpenAI was misattributed. I have not been able to find another article attributing that statement to this lawsuit, and the Guardian article (linked below) says that it was regarding the motion to dismiss a previous lawsuit in August.
Here's their statement on Martin et al.'s lawsuit (taken from CBC's article, also linked below):
"We're having productive conversations with many creators around the world, including the Authors Guild, and have been working co-operatively to understand and discuss their concerns about AI. We're optimistic we will continue to find mutually beneficial ways to work together to help people utilize new technology in a rich content ecosystem."
Anyway, this lawsuit is about the piracy of these authors' books. The reason that Martin calls attention to the fact that the generated outline is overly detailed and uses his characters is because he's asking how the AI can be so accurate to his stories. The full texts of Martin's books are not free, and not legally available online.
The lawsuit is thus posing the question: Did the techbros at OpenAI; 1) Pay hundreds upon hundreds of dollars obtaining legal copies of these books; or 2) Include book-piracy sites while scraping the web for training data?
Looking at the other allegations, I think Martin's point becomes clearer. Douglas Preston says that he asked the AI to write a poem about one of the characters in a book he wrote with Lee Childs. As was the case with Martin's allegation, the AI knew too many details about his book for it to have just scraped Wikipedia and review sites.
The goal of this lawsuit is that the authors want artists to be compensated when AI uses copyrighted works as training data, and for the creators to be able to opt out of their work being used.

Microsoft and OpenAI probe alleged data theft by DeepSeek
.pp-multiple-authors-boxes-wrapper display:none; img width:100%;
Microsoft and OpenAI are investigating a potential breach of the AI firm’s system by a group allegedly linked to Chinese AI startup DeepSeek.
According to Bloomberg, the investigation stems from suspicious data extraction activity detected in late 2024 via OpenAI’s application programming interface (API), sparking broader concerns over international AI competition.
Microsoft, OpenAI’s largest financial backer, first identified the large-scale data extraction and informed the ChatGPT maker of the incident. Sources believe the activity may have violated OpenAI’s terms of service, or that the group may have exploited loopholes to bypass restrictions limiting how much data they could collect.
DeepSeek has quickly risen to prominence in the competitive AI landscape, particularly with the release of its latest model, R-1, on 20 January.
Billed as a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT in performance but developed at a significantly lower cost, R-1 has shaken up the tech industry. Its release triggered a sharp decline in tech and AI stocks that wiped billions from US markets in a single week.
David Sacks, the White House’s newly appointed “crypto and AI czar,” alleged that DeepSeek may have employed questionable methods to achieve its AI’s capabilities. In an interview with Fox News, Sacks noted evidence suggesting that DeepSeek had used “distillation” to train its AI models using outputs from OpenAI’s systems.
“There’s substantial evidence that what DeepSeek did here is they distilled knowledge out of OpenAI’s models, and I don’t think OpenAI is very happy about this,” Sacks told the network.
Model distillation involves training one AI system using data generated by another, potentially allowing a competitor to develop similar functionality. This method, when applied without proper authorisation, has stirred ethical and intellectual property debates as the global race for AI supremacy heats up.
OpenAI declined to comment specifically on the accusations against DeepSeek but acknowledged the broader risk posed by model distillation, particularly by Chinese companies.
“We know PRC-based companies — and others — are constantly trying to distill the models of leading US AI companies,” a spokesperson for OpenAI told Bloomberg.
Geopolitical and security concerns
Growing tensions around AI innovation now extend into national security. CNBC reported that the US Navy has banned its personnel from using DeepSeek’s products, citing fears that the Chinese government could exploit the platform to access sensitive information.
In an email dated 24 January, the Navy warned its staff against using DeepSeek AI “in any capacity” due to “potential security and ethical concerns associated with the model’s origin and usage.”
Critics have highlighted DeepSeek’s privacy policy, which permits the collection of data such as IP addresses, device information, and even keystroke patterns—a scope of data collection considered excessive by some experts.
Just fyi, @deepseek_ai collects your IP, keystroke patterns, device info, etc etc, and stores it in China, where all that data is vulnerable to arbitrary requisition from the 🇹🇳 State.

— Luke de Pulford (@lukedepulford) January 27, 2025
Earlier this week, DeepSeek stated it was facing “large-scale malicious attacks” against its systems. A banner on its website informed users of a temporary sign-up restriction.
The growing competition between the US and China in particular in the AI sector has underscored wider concerns regarding technological ownership, ethical governance, and national security.
Experts warn that as AI systems advance and become increasingly integral to global economic and strategic planning, disputes over data usage and intellectual property are only likely to intensify. Accusations such as those against DeepSeek amplify alarm over China’s rapid development in the field and its potential quest to bypass US-led safeguards through reverse engineering and other means.
While OpenAI and Microsoft continue their investigation into the alleged misuse of OpenAI’s platform, businesses and governments alike are paying close attention. The case could set a precedent for how AI developers police model usage and enforce terms of service.
For now, the response from both US and Chinese stakeholders highlights how AI innovation has become not just a race for technological dominance, but a fraught geopolitical contest that is shaping 21st-century power dynamics.

I don’t want to address this any more than it naturally needs to come up, particularly with the degree of destruction occurring all around - the elevating risks posed by fires with no containment, threatening the lives and livelihoods of so many.
That said, in times of chaos and tragedy and provocation - the mind that has been adversely and in several ways permanently impacted by DV, assault, complex PTSD, especially when on the neurodivergent, autistic/ADHD spectrum - tends to manifest worst case scenarios out of preexisting trauma, the mind runs with the terror experienced incubating inside like a form of cancer - it’s sleeplessness, it’s paralysis when confronted with having to potentially re-engage with areas or persons that caused detrimental damage, even if not so often physically as mentally, emotionally, psychologically.
I can’t name here the owners of the business relative to the assault I experienced on my own in Highland Park just this month.
I can only allege and speak to my own accurate experience of events, and express how profoundly a survivor of extensive complex abuse has to juggle with being isolated, physically bombarded and confronted, grabbed at the wrist, quite literally pulled into what felt like a highly antagonizing, dangerous situation.
The fires going on now allow you to reflect in some ways on how the value of a life over the value of objects is so much more precious. Not to undermine the loss of a home, the loss of that which you have worked to preserve and create - but it’s for this precise reason I address this: I know my character. I know I did not act outside of it, or what was legally appropriate of the claim I introduced. I know my intuition was right in bridging away from an environment and from people that could act so transactionally violently without a second thought.
One of you has a child, you have another life you care for. In the grander scheme of my witnessing and living around pathologically narcissistic personalities - that doesn’t have to mean anything. However, it should mean having the wherewithal to understand the depth of what it means to be placed in a potentially life-threatening situation, alone, isolated, as a minority.
Women, and no not exclusively the trans-exclusionary pool - understand the higher probability of being harassed, stalked, cornered, or drawn, coerced, pressured, or forced into endangering situations.
The impact of what I experienced on the surface may not seem deep, but in reality, it leaves a lasting and what I can only assume was intended to be humiliating and scorning, vengeful impact - I can say what I experienced without a shadow of speculation was entirely unwarranted, was unethical, was threatening, was on some level premeditated, violent, and fundamentally wrong.
If you have an issue with a legal or financial matter, you contact your bank, your insurance supplier, authorities. You go about things the ethical way.
You do not: harass, bully, and assault an innocent, isolated individual intentionally.
You are adults. You are business-owners. You in one case have a child under your care.
I will not retaliate or give that any legs or dignity. But I will not tolerate slander. I will not tolerate blackmail. I will not tolerate attempted theft and coercion. I will not tolerate willful destruction of property. I will not condone or tolerate defamation of character. I will certainly not tolerate willful physical assault.
I leave this in hopefully the authorities’ capable hands, despite my own history with law enforcement exposures of where that authority is not always uniquely tolerant or effective in protecting the welfare of others, minorities especially.
I pray that what has been done serves as a reminder of what is: unjustifiable. By anything. By anything even presumably or allegedly done: nothing - ever - constitutes that violence, and the lasting impacts that can has and will have.
I may not be able to name any directly, but I know myself, and I know that this was intolerant and unacceptable.
And I will not stand idly by, regardless of any potential formal investigation and action - in allowing it to happen again, by which I mean no threat, only the burden of yet another area of my life which now demands hyper-vigilance I barely can muster.
Shameful and horrible and fundamentally wrong.
No excuses.

In view of the fact that some of the defendants at 38 Mitskevich Street in Tbilisi, being physically out of reach of the Court, continue their criminal activity, which poses a direct threat to me and my sister, I decided to announce to the media the text format of one of the court documents, as well as Certificate of Completion of the original Supplement:
Supplement to the Affidavit of Simon Chikhladze
I, Simon Chikhladze, being duly sworn, do hereby declare and supplement my affidavit as follows:
Additional Information
This supplement is intended to provide further details and does not undermine or contradict the statements made in my original affidavit.
At the moment, the main core of criminals is visualized at their sanctuary on 38 Mitskevich Street: house supervisor "Jinori" with some Iranian background, Tbilisi city municipality employee "Iraklyi," "Julia," and "Giviko." The associated facilities at Nos. 34, 36, and 40 of Mitskevich Street are not implied at this stage.
"Giviko" played a role in the theft and stealing of my passport and my sister's passport in the eve of departure to the airport, without which we were not allowed on the Lufthansa flight from Tbilisi to Barcelona on November 16, 2023. Even though we already had boarding passes.
Additionally, Burjanadze was tipped off from within the circle by people with knowledge of my intended trip abroad scheduled for February 29, 2024, allowing her sufficient time to activate her internal and external contacts to unlawfully deny boarding on Tbilisi-Geneva flight to me and my sister, while having in our possession all the sufficient papers. A few points:
- Possessing an outbound boarding pass, travel confirmation and confirmed lodging arrangements via paid transaction record would ordinarily suffice to establish legal traveling status under EU freedom of movement rules.
- However, requesting to preemptively see an "inbound boarding pass" - a document airlines do not provide until return travel commences - makes clear this was merely a bad faith pretext to obstruct departure rather than a genuine inquiry.
- "Baking" an on-the-spot decision without substantive review of the documentation I did produce, further underscores this was an arbitrary, extralegal executive action lacking objective merit or due process.
- Establishing this pattern of using fabricated "notices" or procedural pinpricks as an irregular extrajudicial tool specifically targeted at blocking my movement can help substantiate claims of systemic political targeting and refoulement despite lacking criminal grounds.
So, there was never any lawful basis for this denial of boarding, only confirmation of willfully pretextual conduct designed to strand us within the state's reach.
Furthermore, the perpetrators mentioned in my affidavit hold a firm anti-American stance, which plays a significant role in the torture and mistreatment I am enduring as a U.S. ID holder. They are aware of my American background. A few considerations:
- Their targeting of myself, as an asylee granted protection by the United States, takes on added significance in light of these ideological leanings. I potentially represent both American interests and values they vehemently oppose.
- An organized criminal operation carrying out sustained torture and obstruction of due process rights over many years implies more than just monetary motives - lending further credence to claims of state complicity or willful blindness of authorities.
- International institutions and governments sympathetic to American geopolitical concerns may feel added impetus to intervene and demand answers when anti-American extremism appears intertwined with the grave allegations of complicity in human rights violations.
- If these actors are indeed agents of foreign influence utilizing Georgia as a base of operations with safe harbor, rule of law and oversight become especially paramount issues for concerned governments.
- Their apparent sophistication in monitoring and reprisals against help-seeking also takes on more troubling overtones as potentially state-sponsored actions against a perceived national security threat.
I request:
1. To authenticate each of the member of organized group at 38 Mitskevich Street facility, in accordance with international standards and practice.
2. To establish legal traveling status under EU freedom of movement rules based on possessing an outbound boarding pass, travel confirmation, and confirmed lodging arrangements via paid transaction record.
3. Clarification on the demand to see an "inbound boarding pass" as a pretext to obstruct departure, rather than a genuine inquiry.
4. A substantive review of the documentation provided to challenge the arbitrary and extralegal denial of boarding on a flight from Tbilisi to Geneva.
5. Investigation into the theft of passports by "Giviko" and others, in the eve of my departure into airport, which led to denial of boarding on a flight from Tbilisi to Barcelona.
This information is provided to further substantiate the ongoing threats and actions against me, and I continue to seek justice and protection of my rights, as well as rights of my dependant sister under existing law and international regulations.
