This is probably going to sound weird, but do you have any poses where the model is suspended upside down? Like a trapeze act sort of thing.
Here's a few I could find. Hope something helps!

getting driven crazy trying to look up better pose reference pictures of middle aged and elderly fat people and every time i try to look up more resources people answering questions about how to find diverse body types to draw online say like. porn and plus sized clothing stores...
#i like adorkastock i like the concept of fat photo reference and have access to it#but find the format of looking through images on there a bit awful#(but get like. it would be hard to do otherwise and have it be easily run by one person)#but neither of those have much of people who are specifically both fat and elderly#and looking at normal stock photo websites theres less stuff of people that arent in bulky clothing that make it hard to understand anatomy#cpost#also found out in the process of this all that deviantart just straight up lik doesnt have any form of advanced search anymore its awful#doesnt really solve the formfitting clothing or nudity making things easier problem#but i do often for practice just look at a lot of random places that have pictures of random people#but that doesnt really help if im looking for specific pose references..

HII i love your art so much. do you think you'd ever consider making an anatomy pdf? i love your other books so much and thats the one thing i struggle most with but your anatomy is so good
hello!! currently there aren't any plans for an anatomy pdf, but i can direct you to some resources that have helped me study anatomy over the years!
Sinix Design - has a playlist of quick, useful anatomy tips for different body parts like hands, knees, the skull, etc.
Posemaniacs - royalty free moveable 3D model poses, adjustable camera angles. great for studying poses at different angles!
Sketchfab - site with a wide variety of 3D models/objects/etc. many models are available for commercial usage but def check the license individually if you're planning on using it for anything.
Adorkastock - stock photos are great references in general! this one has a timer you can set to draw for each pose, useful for practicing gesture. is under creative commons, meaning you can use the poses commercially as long as it's credited.
Pose Search - you pick a body part, pose the 3D model on the left, and it automatically searches up image references of that pose for you. super useful for when you can't find ref pics of that very specific pose you want.
Comparing Heights - not exactly anatomy related, but it's a tool that lets you see the difference between two heights you put in ( a necessity for me when i create ocs lol)

Hello! Would you happen to have any recommendations for realistic anatomy books on humans (for art purposes)? A lot of the online anatomy references are very exaggerated and the models have only 'ideal' body types and don't depict any others (E.g. Online male anatomy references are extremely buff for no reason). Thank you for the help :)
I do have a small collection of anatomy-for-artists books, but honestly, those are also populated predominantly with people who look like living Greek sculptures. So, I asked around a bit for both book and online sources. Here are a few things:
Height Weight Chart -- A library that people have contributed multitudes of their own photos to. Some people took turnaround photos in form-fitting clothes. Some are just one-off snapshots of people in street clothes. But, both of those things can be useful in their own way, and there certainly are a lot of body types here. (Thanks for the link, Fable).
------------------------------------------------------ AdorkaStock -- Features a whole free pose gallery containing a really excellent array of varied bodies. The photos generally focus more on form than costume, and if anything, the extremely sculpted bodies you tend to see in other stock libraries are de-emphasized here.
------------------------------------------------------
Satine Zillah -- An expansive library of downloadable photo packs. Most of them feature athletic or thin body types, many are heavy on costuming, but there are some that focus on more variety if you take time to scroll through (elderly bodies, plus-size bodies, people with dwarfism, etc.)
------------------------------------------------------
Morpho -- I know a lot of people swear by these books by Michel Lauricella. Morpho: Fat and Skin Folds in particular seems to cover some ground that a lot of other anatomy/pose lessons just skip right over. Looks like it's available as an ebook too.
I hope that helps some! I'm sure there are other resources out there, though. If anyone has some solid recommendations, please leave them in the comments!

Do you think drawing fat people is hard?
It’s a bit different from drawing slimmer people, especially when most references and art assets mainly showcase slimmer folks. Plus-sized characters in media are far and few in between, and they often just have a little more curve with a slim face. There's nothing wrong with that, but everyone has different weight distributions, which can lead to a lot of diversity in body types!
I don't think drawing fat people is “hard”, but it can take a little longer to seek out references for the anatomy. There are some good resources online but one I've found super helpful is FAT PHOTO REFERENCE, you need approval to access it but once you're in there are so many amazing photos of bigger people posing!
AdorkaStock (also known as Senshi Stock) have a great body diversity for art references, and a rich library of different poses!
In general, I decide what body shape I want to go for and add some mass to it based on my reference; I based a lot of my character designs on shapes, so that decided the weight distributions. Good to remember about weight is that it weighs (lol), so instead of just adding rounder shapes to characters, make sure it's also pulling down a little.
Double chins are very common but rarely showcased, so I think it's a good feature to add if you want to draw a bigger person.
I’m not sure if any of this is helpful, or if the question was meant to offer advice or just to critique my character designs (which is fair). As an artist, I've noticed that “flaws”—and I mean more than just weight, as someone who has struggled with my own size—make for more engaging character designs.
Adding my own insecurities to character designs helps me accept and embrace the uniqueness of features that aren't often seen; everyone deserves to be seen, because we’re all here, and life’s too short to strive for a picture-perfect existence.
#idk if you were trying to shade me here but#yeah fair i mainly draw the same characters that I hc to be more fit or slimmer.#that's fair#i like that the tmaoc have some more diversity in them I always get a little happy when the fat option wins#character deisgn#artist advice#art advice

Hii!! Just wanted to ask how you get your poses on characters just flow so naturally? Is it like 2nd nature to you or does it take a really long time to get the poses right and natural? Bcs i've always struggled with that
Just wanted to ask since I really love the way you draw poses and perspective!! (Might be a weird complements but yeah sksnsksosj)
DJGGJHGIG ANON MY LOVE......YOU ARE SO SWEET
its DEF not 2nd nature lol ive been drawing for over 20 yrs now and still struggle with stiffness and line weight and foreshortening on a lot of poses. the best advice i have is to USE REFERENCES!! draw parallel to them, trace a sketch model over them to work off of, cut them up and splice them together to get closer to whats in your head, take photos of yourself, ask your discord friends with diff body types to show you their knees, etc etc etc.
@adorkastock is a FANTASTIC place to find both mundane and dynamic poses. I also recommend fatphotoref.com, publicdomainpictures.net, vishopper.com, line-of-action.com, and referenceangle.com as well as any free use stock photos.
(Protip: on image results on search engines, you can filter by creative licenses! go to the top of the results page; on google its under tools > usage rights, on qwant its under filters > any license, and on duckduckgo its in the 'all licenses' dropdown. u can choose 'creative commons' 'public domain' 'non-commercial' etc. This seems to help filter out AI results lol)
one thing that IS 2nd nature to me and i think helps put a lot of life into my drawings is that my sketch layers are very loosey goosey. when ur doing ur first sketch, dont worry about anatomy or anything, just doodle loose lines that have the shape/feel of what ur lookin for. THEN i worry about references/anatomy etc on a 2nd sketch layer, with my lower layer reminding me where to put emphasis and weight and what type of emotion/expression I was going for etc.
Its a lot harder for me to draw smth good without some kind of foundation, and a sloppy sketch layer gives me that AND lets me get out the idea quick and return to it later, while not feeling pressure to make it perfect! i tend to lose a lot of that whimsy and movement during the inking stage, which im still trying to figure out lol - but i think thats pretty universal? My example here is more cartoony so its less of an issue but you can see it a bit in the bend of the fingers and elbow.
Good luck on your drawing journey!!!! i hope this was helpful or at least interesting lmaoo

heyy wondering what do you use for pose references <3
i have like a couple hundred photos saved in a 'possible pose refs' folder on my computer which have just accumulated from me saving cool pics whenever i see them (mostly from tumblr).
i've also made use of AdorkaStock and similar pose libraries on deviantart
in a pinch, google images can often get me what i need. appending "stock image" to your search can actually sometimes narrow shit down to more useful images
and don't knock setting a timer on your phone camera and posing yourself lmao.
for the 2024 jax i actually experimented w using a 3D model thingy-- though im not sure i'd recommend it
i also have often made digital collages where i mash several different ref images together to make a frankenref:
every once in a while i do truly just eyeball it and say fuck it who cares if it's wonky looking. it's often wonky looking even with refs so i can't be mad

The Wicked Witch of the East
Unlike the Wicked Witch of the West, the Wicked Witch of the East doesn't really have an iconic image aside from a pair of colorful stockings and slippers that either silver or ruby.
Which means there's a lot more creative freedom to design her. Now I know that there are technically official artworks of the Witch of the East, but she all look like a generic old witch with a pointy hat and broomstick. One book from L. Frank Baum, The Tin Woodman of Oz, did mention that the Witch lived in a hut, implying for being the dictator of the Munchkins, her lifestyle was actually quite humble. And that's fine and all, but I feel like a witch who wears silver shoes or ruby slippers should be someone more vain. Someone who adores her looks despite being so old that she literally vaporize into dust upon death and contact with the sun's light.
And few Disney villains come to mind. Madame Medusa, Ursula, and of course, Yzma. I primarily used Yzma as the prime inspiration (you can see it with the pale blue skin and face) and even listen to her cut song Snuff Out the Light, particularly these lyrics:
Supai baby, turn me on
Every wrinkle soon be gone,
I could squeeze myself with glee the promises you made to me.
I've really stopped at nothing
Murder, treachery and lying
Whatever it takes to keep my looks
You really can't blame a girl for trying
Because I viewed her as a vain witch, I had her dressed in a rich blue dress that reminiscent of a 1920s dancer with wild 80s hair and a lot of makeup and dyed hair. Give her the iconic red and white stockings combined with silver decorations to match the shoes (except for a ruby on her ring, which acts as a source of power and a reference to the ruby slippers, and sapphire earrings), and you got yourself a campy, over-the-top tyrant that the Munchkins would be glad to see being squashed by a house.

hel-lore (see what i did there)
just wanted to ask what brush you used for your casscass comic because. Goddamn that lineart and colours. Yummy.
How’d you. Do you. What brushes. What pallets. What program.
Did you get pose from somewhere… references…
basically this is me asking how you made your art style so i can osmosis it hope you don’t mind, if you do, you can absolutely tell me to not steal your art style
okay have a nice (insert timezone specific term here)! drink water
Hello and a drink water yourself! I draw in Photoshop currently and I have downloaded Kyle T. Webster's free brush megapack. For pencils and sketching I use the "Ultimate Charcoal Pencil", and for inking I've been using the "Ultimate Inking Thick 'n Thin" :
I often shade with the default hard round pressure opacity brush. I recommend you try out a few different brushes and see what feels good!
Some tips on color: 1. you can help your palette look cohesive if you cover the drawing with a solid low-opactity "color" or "hue" layer. 2. don't draw in black on white. I recommend not using black "ink" at all, but if nothing else change your bg color to a gray 3. atmospheric perspective For posing characters, learning anatomy will help. Also, you can find stock poses online. I like the adorkastock website.
I developed my style by copying elements of other art styles I liked, and over time making them my own. Tracing or imitating art that you like can help you feel how that style works.
When I draw my own version of a character, I use shapes to emphasize certain features and keep them recognizable:
(I was influenced by elekilokal's incredible charcter designs)
and all that being said, practice is gonna help more than any one brush or tip. Good luck!
#ask#art#art tips#2025#long post#character design#that cass drawing was my preliminary design for her and as i draw her more i settle into what works and what feels right#sometimes you just have to follow your heart#im not sure if i worded the bit about copying other art styles quite right but shrug#the trick there is to draw from a lot of sources and youll naturally synthesize them into your unique style
