The real tragedy of Dead Boy Detectives is that it deserved to be a cable show made at least ten years ago. Just imagine a 20 episode season with legitimate monster-of-the-week, "filler" episodes, and time for every character to shine.

very important question: based on your recent art, would you say Caro was at the bottom of the cheerleader pyramid? cause I always thought they would be at the top cause tiny and easy to lift/catch but now I’m not so sure
Tumblr media
There’s a reason he calls them ✨Angel✨
Caro’s the Flyer on the team (and Captain!) takes a lot of strength too, plus they are a bit short to be part of the support on the bottom, the pyramid would be lopsided. Lmao.
There’s a few things about them that are just a little bit supernatural compared to most folks, being a Seer of course, but also strength. You have to be tough to be an inter-dimensional doorway and not get killed every time something crazy happens. Plus Sully didn’t weigh too much back then, no one bothered to feed that boy.

I meant WHO is Jon?
A fella

[ID a very simplified sketch of Jon sims sitting with his legs straight out, holding a tape recorder and frowning deeply. Three disembodied eyes hover behind him and look at him. End ID]

The Red Scrolls of Magic is a Cute Shadowhunter Adventure
The Red Scrolls of Magic has been out for years, but I never got around to reading it until now. Why it took me so long, I don’t know, but what I do know is that this is an absolutely adorable addition to the Shadowhunter universe. There are so many parts of this novel that made me so happy, so let’s get into it. Set following City of Glass, The Red Scrolls of Magic follows Magnus and Alec’s…

How to Bite Your Neighbor and Win a Wager by D.N. Bryn is a gay vampire romance I enjoyed (has plot and a couple other books after it)
Then the Honey Badger Chronicles by Shelly Laurenston are really fun shifter but are straight and a little repetitive (Tons of fun ideas, but I didn't enjoy trying to pick up her other books as much)
If you want a Yuri manga romance Run Away with Me Girl by Battan has no fantastical elements but is very good story
Aaaaaaand if you are looking for more recommendations then Kingdom of Thirst is a podcast that talks about romance books
Was perplexed by this ask also before I realized it was probably in response to my complaint about all the reylo reskins.
To be clear, I do not seek out romance to read personally. I work at a library and finalize collection development decisions, so I farm out genre recs to my romance reading-coworkers since I'm not a good judge. (We're a college but we're buying more fiction these days because hey, at least something circulates.) However I suppose I can investigate these titles as potential additions to our collection. They look more like one of my other coworker's cup of tea, so I'll ask her about them.

the age old "two cakes" mantra of fandom creation is so true in that genuinely you should not worry about doing what someone else has already done because your take on the same ideas is valuable anyway but I do so hate when all of a fandom's popular content is sort of the same thing. its like going to a bake sale and everyone brought a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. it's so good, but I can only eat so much cake. the frosting is getting to be too much in my mouth. I just want someone's homemade specialty cookies

Dead End Paranormal Park is truly one of the best animated series of recent years. it has so much great stuff, great storylines, dynamics, relationships, amazing diversity and representation that is meaningful and important to the plot itself, it has a really nice art style and just. everything about it is so amazing. it has so many of the things that i love about shows like gravity falls, steven universe, the owl house and more. i like this show more than gravity falls, which is saying something considering for most of my life GF had been my favorite cartoon
this series had everything i look for in cartoons
im just really angry at netflix for cancelling it and i will never forgive them for it. the story got cut short. we didn't get a proper ending. s2 ended on a cliffhanger, and i had hope for a third season since the show got more popular with time but y'know how it is with these things. i hate it

REVIEW: The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent
3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
Let me start by saying that the first book BLEW MY MIND. It was SO GOOD!! I loved it so much. It had action, world-building, and angsty romance. EVERYTHING WAS GREAT.
I really want to say that I loved this second book, but it was just alright for me. It definitely gave me "Of Wings and Ruin" vibes, all war and no play. I seem to remember enjoying it more in that book than here. I understand that the story had to progress like this to conclude Oraya and Raihn's story, but it just didn't give me everything I hoped it would.
It was very political, and there weren't any twists or turns that had me shocked. I wasn't excited or surprised about any of the info we learned about Oraya's past. It was just okay. It was good, but it wasn't outstanding. However, I will say that the first half of the book was definitely slower than the second half. I was really irritated by Oraya's attitude during the first half of the book. I found her internal monologue to be annoying. At a certain point, both Raihn and Oraya's use of "there he/she is" stopped working for me. I didn't connect with them as I did in the first book. But with that said, Raihn was the best part of this book.
Seeing as this is the end of Oraya & Raihn's main story, I look forward to reading whatever comes next for this universe!!
Overall, I DO enjoy this series as a whole. The first book is OUTSTANDING, and I will forever recommend it to everyone I speak to. ❤

The Bone Season - Sci-Fi Paranormal Supernatural Dystopian? I am Intrigued, Samantha Shannon
I have seen Samantha Shannon’s name all over bookish social media for her duology The Priory of the Orange Tree and A Day of Fallen Night. I knew that there was a series she wrote before these books though, and with a little digging, I found The Bone Season. Upon picking it up, it had everything – and I mean everything – so I didn’t know what to expect from a book that was said to deliver it…
