Cows vs Aliens... but Puppies vs Squeaks too??
I was recently made aware of a specific excerpt in the February 2023 edition of the Big Toy Book which I have highlighted below: And while I had been already aware of Cows vs Aliens and had been waiting for the first reveal of them (as I know they were shown to investors already at this point), I don’t think anyone was aware of the reveal of Puppies vs Squeaks as well. I still don’t entirely…

We have reached the end of these cakegate bodyswap shenanigans. I hope you enjoy this final part! The whole thing will be up on my AO3 page... eventually.
Thank you kindly for reading and liking and reblogging and making me smile in the tags!
...
SHARING A SLICE... part 6
RWRB, rated T, 1000 words (this part).
(click here for part 1) (part 2) (part 3) (part 4) (part 5)
...
After brunch, they visit Tower Bridge.
“Over there is the Tower of London.”
“That’s where they locked women up when they didn't pop out babies fast enough for the king, right?”
“Exactly right. Did you know they kept an elephant there, too?”
“What?”
“They fed it bread and wine. I'm sure you’ll be shocked to learn that it died.”
“Y’know, I almost feel like I should cut you some slack. All that inbreeding obviously messed up your brains.”
Henry smiles. It probably looks great to the paparazzi.
After Tower Bridge, it's the Tate Modern, followed by St Paul's Cathedral, Hyde Park, dinner, and then Kensington Palace again for the night.
Yeah, it's a stunt, and yeah, Alex doesn't really get to look at the art or visit the sites, and yeah, he has zero say about the itinerary, but it's not terrible. Henry's not awful company.
By the end of the day, Alex is exhausted. Henry seems just as tired. On the one hand, they’ve convinced the public they're best friends and maybe reached a personal truce. On the other hand, it's twenty-four hours post-caketastrophe and they're still in the wrong fucking bodies.
“We can't stall any longer.” He's watching Henry pace back and forth in front of the windows with the ugly-ass curtains. “I have to go back tomorrow. Well, I mean, you do. You as me.”
Henry doesn't respond.
“How long do you think it’ll take one of us to get arrested for spying? My money's on less than forty-eight hours.”
“I need ice cream,” Henry announces.
“Music to my ears. Lead the way.”
They settle on opposite sides of the kitchen island and eat their ice cream in a half-peaceful, half-melancholic silence.
“Despite the uncanny aspect of it all, I have to admit this hasn't been horrible,” Henry says eventually. “They don't often let me play tourist... and I never get to fabricate pseudo-historical nonsense for a mouthy American.”
Alex nearly fumbles his cone. “Wait, you made stuff up? When?”
Henry shrugs.
“Come on. It was the elephant, wasn't it? I knew there was no way–”
“I assure you, the elephant was real.” Henry taps on his phone and spins it so Alex can see. “He even has his own Wikipedia entry.”
“Elephant of Henry III,” Alex reads, bending closer. “What the fuck.”
The smug expression on Henry's face – Alex's face – and the way he licks his ice cream makes Alex's stomach flip over strangely. His neck feels hot. There's melted ice cream dripping onto his hand.
Without breaking eye contact, Alex slides his free hand over the countertop and rests it on top of Henry's.
“Hey, don't spook, okay?”
His words have the opposite effect. Henry's eyes widen and his shoulders tense like he's getting ready to bolt, but Alex just tightens his grip.
“Maybe... close your eyes?”
“Alex–”
“Suit yourself,” Alex murmurs. As he leans in, Henry takes a deep breath, then closes his eyes. There's a nervous crease between his brows. "Okay. Here goes nothing.”
He mashes what's left of his ice cream against Henry’s face.
“What the hell, Alex?”
So much for that idea.
“Shit. I was thinking maybe the ice cream... after the cake... and I was touching your skin, so...” It doesn't make as much sense out loud as it did in Alex's head.
“You don't–” Henry sputters.
“Listen, I honestly wasn't trying to get back at you for the tour guide shit, I hoped it would fix–”
“No, no, I was wrong, I thought you–”
“What?”
“Alex, don't...” Henry laughs under his breath and reaches out to flatten a sticky palm against Alex's cheek. “Don't spook, alright?”
Before Alex can complain about the mess, Henry brings their lips together in a soft, vanilla-flavored kiss. Alex's stomach flips over again. He closes his eyes. Like this, it's easy to forget he’s kissing himself – and it’s still Henry, isn’t it? It's Henry, kissing him. Henry, kissing Alex.
The kiss is cautious, like Henry's expecting rejection; Alex leans into it anyway. Henry's hand smears ice cream onto his face and the edge of the counter presses into his ribcage, painful, but he wants it. It's shocking how powerful the want is when he hadn't even noticed it before.
Alex slides one hand up Henry's cheek, into his soft hair, and feels – he opens his eyes.
“Well, fuck.” Have Henry's eyes always been so blue? They hadn't seemed that blue in the mirror. They're kind of beautiful.
“Hello,” Henry says. “I'm back? You're back. Are you?”
“I guess. When did you come up with that plan?”
“I – plan?”
“You figured it out? Curse-breaking kisses or something? Wasn't that–” Alex stops. Henry hasn't pulled back from his awkward lean across the counter. From bizarre-but-true personal experience of less than sixty seconds ago, Alex knows for a fact that it's an uncomfortable position.
“If you'd like, I could pretend that it was part of a plan,” Henry offers quietly. “I've got plenty of experience pretending.”
If it's not the truth, though, Alex doesn’t want it. “Nah, no need. Don't get me wrong, it's weird if you don't want any credit for getting us back to normal again, but whatever.”
Henry's incredulous laugh makes Alex feel like kissing him again. “Covered in ice cream is normal for you?”
“Hey, chill. We're having a fucking moment.”
“A fucking moment, truly,” Henry echoes, mocking, but his smile is wide and happy.
“I'm not used to being covered in cake, trading bodies, being covered in ice cream, or kissing princes.”
“No?”
“But I've been branching out lately. Expanding my horizons, y’know.”
“I see. And now you know what to do if any one of those things happens again, I suppose?” Henry squeezes Alex's hand where they're still twined together.
“Yeah,” Alex agrees, squeezing back and leaning in. They've got more to figure out here, but right now it's his turn. Henry kissed him, so now he needs to try it for himself. Simple. “Let me show you. It's a piece of cake.”

The sound of L.O.L stayed consistent for the first three years of their career: Cute, soft, fun, and bright. They were always singing about girls they liked, being in love, having crushes, or something cutesy the teenage girls they were marketed towards could relate to. Though every song was a hit, fans with brain cells often complained they never gave their projects time to marinate before moving on to the next project or when the song would start to pick up momentum, they would already be moving on to a new project.
But that's not the elephant in the room.
Let's talk about it: The Great Sound Change of 2022.
Pull It Back seemingly came out of nowhere and let it be known LOLZIES, their rabid and batshit fanbase, was not happy about it. Where were their cute parasocial boyfriends singing about holding their hands and kissing their cheeks? The concept change came suddenly to the members as well but unlike their fans, they welcomed it. The members felt as if they were growing out of their cute and youthful concept, wanting to venture into more mature and darker territories concept-wise.
This noise-pop era only lasted for a year for a reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though their sound was still obviously different from years prior, 2023 saw L.O.L. having a mature yet bright concept—refreshing, as most of their fans would put it. As long as they were singing about being their boyfriends with an upbeat beat in the background, they were content. Even then, some fans found "Bring The Heat" too "mature" and "sexual" for their taste despite this being international LOLIZES' most listened-to song.
The current state of L.O.L's music is a point of contention in the fandom, their comebacks having mixed responses nowadays, leaving the boys in a weird purgatory of pleasing the people who pay their bills or actually liking the art they put out.

Matt Berry - ‘Heard Noises’. New album out 24 January, 2025. Listen to the new single ‘I Gotta Limit’ (Feat. Kitty Liv) on all streaming platforms.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Acid Jazz Exclusive Gatefold Colour Vinyl / Signed Test Pressing / Blue Vinyl LP / CD / Cassette - pre order now:
Following the huge acclaim of Matt’s 2021 album ‘The Blue Elephant’ (“A sonic odyssey” – Uncut) – as well as last year’s one-off album of library music collaboration with the KPM label (“another string to Berry’s impressive bow” – Prog magazine) – we are proud to present ‘Heard Noises’, Matt’s eighth studio album with Acid Jazz, out 24 January, 2025.
Out today, lead single ‘I Gotta Limit’ finds Matt trading lines with Kitty Liv (Kitty, Daisy and Lewis) as a man after a second chance with a woman impatient with his pleading. With a song structure inspired by Sly Stone, in a little over three minutes ‘I Gotta Limit’ takes in a plethora of musical ideas. An instantly catchy song which is part-Northern Soul, part-psych.
We’re hugely excited to offer a beautiful label-exclusive gatefold edition on Psychedelic Swirl colour vinyl, alongside the standard version Sky Blue LP, as well as corresponding soft-pack CD and high quality retro-styled Cassette.
We are also offering 70 limited-edition Test Pressings, each signed by Matt (with print insert of the cover art included).
In contrast to 'The Blue Elephant’ dizzying trip through an idiosyncratic love of British Psych, Freakbeat, Acid Rock and late ‘60s pop, ‘Heard Noises' finds Matt heading for a looser, Californian psychedelia, through his love of the trippier sounds of space pop and rock, and his ear for an eerie, haunting melody.
Once again, the album is testament to Matt’s exceptional musicianship, production skills and songwriting prowess. He plays guitars, bass, acoustic and Wurlitzer pianos, synthesizers, organs and Mellotron. He is joined by long-time collaborator, neo-progressive drummer Craig Blundell, and guests including Pokerface actress Natasha Lyonne, Eric D. Johnson (The Shins/Fruit Bats), Phil Scraggs, Rosie McDermott, and the S. Club 60s Choir (featuring Matt’s mum).
In many ways 'Heard Noises' could be considered the perfect distillation of the extraordinary breadth of musical ideas across Matt’s albums to date.

"Hey Sanji!" Usopp caught up with the blond, a big grin on his face. In his hands was a box, wrapped up in unassuming brown paper and a string. A card was stuck under the string, a simple but elegant candid sketch of Sanji from the back, half turned with quite the handsome smile on his face. Under it was a scrawled 'Happy Birthday Sanji! -Usopp :^)' on it.
"Go on," he pushes the box into the cook's hands, an anticipatory energy radiating off the man. "Open it!"
Once the paper was off, Sanji would be treated to another piece of art. This one was far more elaborate. It was a depiction of the sea, blues, teals, greens acting as a gorgeous backdrop to the colorful and diverse array of fish swimming about. And inside the box was, of course, a treat. A small container of Malva Pudding, a treat from his heritage.
Usopp scratched the back of his head sheepishly, and if one really looked, a light pink to his cheeks. "Yknow, I hear you talk about the All Blue here and there, and it always sounded so amazing. So I, uh, tried my hand based off the stuff you've said about it. I'd love to hear more! Oh- and that's Malva Pudding! Straight from my pop's side of the family."
Tumblr media
birthday asks. ( accepting! )
❝ Hey, Usopp── ❞ He stopped, interrupted by the box that was now shoved into his hands. He wasn't that surprised; it was his birthday after all. His cigarette dangled limply between his lips while Sanji examined it. He saw the card, smiling at the sketch. He was always impressed with how Usopp did things; a level of art that Sanji fails to commit too. His artist skills were more based around food rather than brushes or even pencils. Then Usopp insisted he'd open it.
Gently, Sanji removed the card off the string. ( He's going to pin it on the fridge along with Chopper's drawings with this "Unknown". ) Then he opened it, gasping at the art of── wait, is this supposed to be an illustration of the All Blue? If so, it was absolutely stunning. There's shading, gradient colours blended together beautifully. Various fishes, and he swore that he recognizes them as he had tangents and rambles of what fishes he'd expect to see in the All Blue, which, technically, all of them would be there. Depending on what fish it was and their life expectancy. The joy of imagining every kind of fish from each individual sea, all connected to one. Such fish included: Smiley Jellyfish, Bluefin Elephant Tuna, Sandora Catfish; pretty much every fish imaginable, and Sanji had said so much about it out of sheer excitement.
( He's a nerd for fish, okay? )
His eyes sparkled with delight at the art, and then excited and curious to see something new. Malva Pudding, Usopp called it. His cheeks reddened; Usopp did all of this for him? From the drawings down to something that Usopp probably had a lot as a child? Since it was on his father's side and all. A soft smile is on his lips. ❝ I absolutely love it, Usopp. It's all so amazing. Do you... Do you wanna share this Malva Pudding? I'll happily tell you about the All Blue. Well, more on my thoughts, feelings and such. I mean, it is the true paradise for all fish if they can come and go from all the seas imaginable! ❞
At that, Sanji also leaned in, press his lips to Usopp's cheeks as a thanks. ❝ Thank, you, Usopp. Or do I dare say: Captain Usopp. ❞

Listed: Immaterial Possession
Tumblr media
Immaterial Possession puts the viscerality of bass-driven rock, the hypnotic drone of East European folk and the dippy energy of art punk into a blender lets it whirr.  The Athens, Georgia band—comprised of Cooper Holmes, Madeline Polites, John Spiegel and Elephant 6 scion Kiran Fernandes—met at an arts commune.  Their self-titled debut came out in 2020, and the follow-up, Mercy of the Crane Folk, this year. Reviewing it, Jennifer Kelly noted that, “If you’ve ever wondered what the B-52s might sound like on a serious Incredible String Band bender, well, possibly a lot like Mercy of the Crane Folk.”
Selda “Gitme”
youtube
Selda is the queen, a 1970s Turkish songwriter, political activist and cultural icon. This song has such great energy. You immediately blast off on the Turkish spaceship to the cosmic love song.. the desperation in Selda's powerful voice steers you.  (Madeline)
The Stranglers, “Hanging Around”
youtube
Love this track and whole record Rattus Norvegicus for its up-front, guttural driving bass lines and menacing vocals. The keyboard runs ascending into the air counter the low earthiness. The record cover is also a perfect fit for the music, classy yet dingy, calm but aggressive, mysterious but mundane. (Cooper)
Isaan style street music from Bangkok
youtube
Isaan music from Northeastern Thailand is some of the coolest music ever.. it's got the perfect blend of psychedelia, folk, improvisation, and party rhythm. And it's for all occasions. (Madeline)
The players are effortlessly cool too. Almost anything we find in this genre gets us going. (Cooper)
Bizunesh Bekele, “Debdabe Lakibign”
youtube
This video is one of my favorite tracks lately. I love the shuffle beat with the overdriven krar, a six-stringed harp, and the sweet synth licks mixed with the vocal. (Kiran Fernandes)
Hany Mehannah, “Shahr Al Assal”
youtube
Super groovy 1970s Egyptian music, scored for film. This is one of my faves from Hany Mehanna, a wonderful composer and keyboardist. His flourishing expressiveness of the Farfisa organ is a great influence on my organ playing in Immaterial. (Kiran)
The B52s, “Give Me Back My Man”
youtube
A big favorite from the B-52s catalogue. Cindy Wilson's vocals are so raw and glorious.. her swing from chill to scream is a cathartic explosion. And the beat and bass line is everlasting in electric spirit.  I listen to this one when I need a jump. It’s also a favorite karaoke number. (Madeline)
Buffy Sainte-Marie, “God Is Alive Magick Is Afoot”
youtube
A friend shared this with us after one of our shows. Buffy Sainte-Marie is a radical badass woman. It's “experimental” (as implied by a traditional pop sense) in the way that you are partaking in her hypnotic spell work. Just found out Leonard Cohen wrote the lyrics. That explains my gravitation to this one; Cohen is a favorite lyricist. (Madeline)
Barış Manço, “Dere Boyu Kavaklar”
youtube
Another groovy 1970s Turkish funk master. That mustache is its own instrument. I sit patiently, although in starving anticipation, for that delicious lead riff.. for that, we'll go to wherever he's luring us..(Madeline)
Aphrodites Child, “End of the World”
youtube
A 1968 Grecian epic banger. Appropriately, in the Greek mythological tradition, it's both deeply romantic and ominous in nature. Very incredible, shapeshifting vocals. Sometimes the visions of the werewolf come into my head with this one. Other times, it just feels like an apocalyptic fury of love. You could probably use this song as an easy Rorschach-ian test to see what's going on in your brain today. (Madeline)
The Bats, “Smoking Her Wings”
youtube
A friend put this on a mix tape. I love this sweet song! A driving tune with a perfectly soft and floating nostalgic melody. When I listen, I feel like I am falling in love in the summer of 1987 and want to cry over something yet I know not exactly what. (Madeline)
Velly Joonas, “Stopp, Seisku Aeg!”
youtube
A 1970s Estonian songwriter and artist. This funkadelic, melancholic, song has got a viola(?) line that cuts through like you're swimming up to the shimmering surface of the Baltic sea to take a breath. I love the rhythm in the vocal lines. I've listened to this song on repeat many times. Thank you Velly! (Madeline)

Michael Wheeler Headcanons Because He Is Best Boi
His favorite animals are moths, ferrets, elephants and cats. He can’t decide
Spicy food is a yes. Always.
He finds it really hard to accept hugs or really any type of physical affection, because, why? Why do you want to do this to me?
He quite likes Eddie’s style, but it’s too rough around the edges for him
Bracelets are a necessity, he likes the feeling of something encircling his wrist unless it’s a hand
He idolizes people easily, specifically those who are kind to him (ie. Eddie and Steve)
He had an epiphany over the fact that pastels aren't only for girls
Hear me out- Will arts right? Mike writes. And he's insanely good at it too! not good like Nancy and her journalism, but good in dialogue, fantasy, fun. He's only truly wonderful when he's able to write assignments as stories! (he likes to write backstories for will's characters)
whispers he may or may not be colourblind! depends on the fic/hc (it would kinda make sense considering his clothing choices in general)
he actually had a really good sense of style when allowed to choose his own clothes
he cares a lil too much about what others think of him, yet tries desperately to brush it off
david bowie>>>>
he only started wearing sweaters because steve dropped one on his front porch
he speaks sarcasms fluently (not really a headcanon)
Marvel is a HUGE fixation of his
STIMULATION IS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS NEEDED!!! he pops his knuckles repeatedly. and his wrists. and his ankles. and his neck. he wiggles his fingers like a lil wormy creature and he rolls them over things like he's playing a piano
he finds it rather difficult to stare someone straight in the eyes so he looks at their noses
^ relating to staring at noses he find them beyond fascinating! he likes the way they curve and are soft or have little acne stars or freckles, he just loves noses. they're neat to him
he wants to learn french. like. really bad but never had the focus to do it so it's hard for him to do so. but he's trying his best
he actually loves sherlock holmes- like. loves the mystery and the thrill of readin the adventures
will i add more at some point? yes.
