so i've been watching the Rings of Power bc i am a huge lotr nerd and at the scene when Elendil lights a mourning candle for Isildur in the shrine i was thinking "hmmm but Isildur isn't dead though... maybe the candle will go out?? symbolising Isildur actually being alive??" because i could SMELL the symbolism coming for a mile away. and then i went "😬 ah.....i see.....!!"

One of the most unintentionally hilarious moments in season 1 for me is when Galadriel is trying to convince Tar-Miriel that she definitely needs to take the threat in Middle Earth seriously
And the two of them are just trading scathing comments back and forth and glaring daggers across the table like
Tumblr media
"The audacity of this bitch??" - literally both of them
Tumblr media
And then there's poor Elendil, increasingly terrified of where this is going,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
visibly regretting every decision he has ever made that has led him to this moment

SPOILERS:
- I’m gonna die
- Valandil DIED (murdered)
- Elendil and Miriel are truly the hottest couple out there like he just wanted a command from his queen and he had one that didn’t really suit the “I’m gonna make that throne go back to you” idea that he had and he just goes sad like a baby.
- Elendil dreams of punching the shit out of Pharazon I just know it
- Kemen is truly Pharazon’s son…murdered a man that didn’t have how to protect himself and was going to punch Elendil when he was with two guards seizing him. Got to be the two biggest cowards of this show.
- The way Elendil was going to touch her, and then she backed off and then she touched him AGAIN and he took her hand 😭🕊️🤏🏼
- Earien must be the most dumb person out there like I’m surprised as fuck bc I’ve heard some say she’s smart…
- Elendil needs to work on his dreams or palantir’s interpretation.
- I think Miriel want what’s best for Numenor, but she won’t be able to see the signs the Gods will send so…like, I am sure the palantir will show worse things to her, but she doesn’t have it now. And if she saw the eagle, she would also know it was looking at her. And if she saw the damn city, she’d also know…
- My poor girl truly thinks that this has to happen for Numenor and the only way I see Pharazon’s arc being beneficial to the city is to give a wake up call on everyone who supports him.
- Anyway, Elendil and Miriel are truly my parents
- I got a spoiler saying that some shit would go down in Numenor at the end of the series and I’m confused if the person mistook it for Eregion or if it is the big ass wave we saw on the season’s trailer.

Thoughts on the finale
I liked this season much more than the first one (which I love, btw).
Some things felt a bit rushed but I know that's because a show like The rings of power needs more than 8 eps to tell its stories but that's how what the entrainment system does now. They did very good with the time they had.
I cried, I laughed, I screamed...
Duran and Disa need to rest. It has not been an easy season for them! But I'm excited to see what will happen next season. And Durin and Elrond need to meet again and talk.
Tumblr media
Celebrimbor and Sauron's scenes were the highlights of the season and I'm so sad Charles is leaving. Also give this man a couple of awards. He deserves it
Tumblr media
We didn't see much of Numenors's and Elendil/Isildur's in the finale but what we saw was good. Elendil like Aragorn. We're going to Meet Anarion next season. Isildur is coming home. And poor Eärien she was just trying to easy her pain and save her father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elrond is me, I'm Elrond. This broke me.
Tumblr media
Watching the destruction of Eregion was painful but expected.
Adar, my beloved. You will be missed... I can't express how much.
Tumblr media
I love them. This is everything I wanted for them... And they delivered. I will be talking about this for years...
Tumblr media
Gandalf!!! Brief note. Gandalf and Nori's relationship is so sweet and tender.
Tumblr media
Galadriel got engaged, again.
Tumblr media
Arondir joined the big girls club now and I'm so here for this! You don't understand how much I love him, and how much I crave for a friendship between him and Galadriel. Also loved the moment where Gil-galad was there trying to formulate a plan and he was like 'Cool, cool, but Commander, what do YOU think we should do?'

TROP s2 ep8
Wow. OK I...am mostly not coherent at the moment so I will be doing character breakdowns because SHIT A BRICK there is so much to unpack.
Durin:
I want to start by saying how fantastic that opening was?! Durin bidding goodbye to Disa as he went to confront his father was so good. Owain portrayed the look of a son in this episode, someone who truly admires his father and wants the best for him, but he also portrayed a king, a dwarf that desires the best for his people with all his heart. I am disappointed we didn't get an Elrond & Durin reunion but his dad had just died so...fair I guess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really enjoyed the dwarf storyline, especially watching them descend into greed, especially Durin III, who let me say had an absolutely metal exit. The story of them arm-wrestling when Durin was a child really shows that he feels put under by his Father, only for Durin III to admit in his final minutes that Durin was always strong, and that he would need to be strong. I loved that part, the dialogue made me very sad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A moment to appreciate this scene please!
The end of the story in season 2 for the dwarves feels like we might see more of them in possible season 3? I really hope so. I liked that Durin was ready to offer aid to the Elves, it's clear how awful he felt that Eregion fell in part because he could not send his army until it was too late.
Aside: DISA LIVES SO I LIVE ALSO.
Also: baby Balrog, anyone? I love how that firey bastard looked. They made it look like it had been plucked straight from the depths of hell itself.
I really hope the Dwarven storyline is a key focus in season 3, especially if it means getting the three amigos (or the two amigos and their tag-along elf) back together.
The Stranger:
It has been revealed! He has his beautiful staff! I love that it was taken from the ruins of the Stoor tree, kind of continuing the storyline of beauty coming from peril that seems to follow Gandalf around in the finales of the last two seasons. I very much enjoyed the little scene with Tom Bombadil. I'd heard them singing in the soundtrack and was very pleased to see it.
I'm including the Harfoots in this section, too, as they weren't in it much. Poppy's story of what Saddoc told her after she lost her family was so heartfelt and very Tolkein, I think that was my favourite bit of the Harfoot storyline this episode. For Nori...is it cruel for me to say that her ending of the journey with the Stranger felt a bit...sudden? I enjoyed her storyline and then she simply walks away from him. While I appreciate that she's doing her own thing, it feels like we were given such a character who was kind of swept away a little? I don't know, I liked parts of it but some felt like an untouched cup of tea, lukewarm and slightly disappointing. I might be alone in this but who knows! I only hope her story isn't left there.
Elendil: (and others)
Oh Elendil, thank you for acknowledging the existence of your other son, Anarion! Also he has Narsil now!! *happy noises* oh Miriel letting him go, sacrificing herself for him once more. This poor woman, please treat her and Elendil nicely next season? Pretty please? Eärien redeemed herself very slightly, I'm glad Kemem wasn't in Numenor when she snuck her father from the chaos. That scene reminds me of all the religious toil that took place during the Tudors, with the Reformation of the church, it all felt very alike. Anyway, I really enjoyed the little we saw of Numenor and hope there's more shown next season. It felt a little disappointing screen-time wise, so maybe s3 can give us a little more!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright then. Celebrimbor:
The amount of pain he endures to protect the rings was horrifying to see. I honestly thought they wouldn't show his torture at the hands of Sauron, nor the famous Celebrimbanner. But honestly? Good for you, not shying away from his tragedy of a death, giving him the honour he deserves. Also Charles Edwards? Brilliant work with Charlie Vickers. The writers really went for likening his time spent with Annatar to domestic violence. "Look what you have done to yourself" and all the talk in ep7 about how it was actually Celebrimbor's fault. The torture was horrifying, please feel for me as I had to watch it twice to find the screenshots. I will miss Celebrimbor's character but I am glad the writers gave him the true ending, evidenced the true tragedy of his death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The shot of the forge is so upsetting. It was once a place of craft and happiness for Celebrimbor, all of Eregion was, but then it was the place of his torture and death.
Isildur:
Not much to say about him to be honest as it felt rather overshadowed by the Estrid romance that, if I'm honest, hasn't really interested me. Like, at all. The moment with Theo was sweet though, as was his acknowledgement of what he had become since his mother's death. I hope we find put what happens to Theo at some point, and that he might reunite with Arondir.
People who can get fucked:
Kemen. Little shit wanting to harm the trees, starve the settlers and this bitch threatened to kill Berek so he deserves nothing more than death. I'm getting angry just typing this so I will say no more.
Adar:
For a sec I was like, why is he so smooth. Then it all went to shit. I still want to know who he is! He was such a good villain but his death was inevitable. He had become too enamoured with killing Sauron, and his children suffered for it. I liked that his death mirrored when he killed Sauron, even the angle was spot on. It saddened me that Glûg was the one who did it, but not wholly unsurprising. His last words were awful and made me feel terribly sorry for him.As a side note, Glûg's death was sad, he had killed his father, found a new master and suffered a cruel death as a result. Also well done effects/makeup team for the transition back into Adar's scars.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Galadriel:
Flipping heck, the whole fight sequence with Sauron made me kick my feet. The part where he shapeshifted was so cool to watch! Also the fight was so dance-like, it was mesmerising. I am enjoying her character becoming wiser in this season, not even tempted this time by Sauron's offers. But she's still the warrior determined to vanquish him, literally crawling across the ground to defeat him. Oh the way I squirmed when Morgoth's stupid crown stabbed her so deeply.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SHE DID AN ELROND. SHE JUMPED. FORESHADOWING *CHEFS KISS*
Just saying, she looked fabulous in the cottage-core dress she wore in Imladris. I really hope the writers continue to make her the wise Galadriel we know in the third age, and also that she gets to fight in battle, of course.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have so many hopes for her character in s3. Very proud of her not going back to Sauron, that bitch is abusive.
Sauron: dickhead. He killed Celebrimbor. Absolute kettle.
Gil-Galad:
He was great, I liked his joke about Galadriel. They might have redeemed his character a bit, in the last two episodes so I hope we see some more of that!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love him fully about to rip off an orcs head because it made Elrond sad an dishonoured Celebrimbors work.
Elrond:
Best til last? I just have more to say about his character and also the parallels making my heart sing, so expect many crappy quality snapshots.
Firstly, I'd like to point out how much I loved that he was the one to save Galadriel. He has rejected the Elven rings (with rightful caution) but not enough to leave his friend to perish. He jumped off of a cliff to save his friends from the ring, and then when Galadriel mirrors his actions to stop Sauron getting them, he saves her. He is constantly looking after those he loves, rings or no rings.
Tumblr media
This moment here made me sad. Elrond, fresh from the blood on the battlefield, trying to preserve the purity of Celebrimbor's legacy. He even addresses the orcs as they prefer, trying desperately to preserve anything of his friend, who he knows has fallen with Eregion. And they make him watch the burning, as though he was watching the last memory of Celebrimbor dwindle.
Tumblr media
I swear, if he and Durin do not reunite in s3 and fix this look on Elrond's face, I will be disappointed. I need the comedy of those two again, help me recover from this season.
Tumblr media
PARALELL OF S2 EP1 WHEN GALADRIEL PICKS UP THE RING. Oh I love me a cheeky parallel.
Tumblr media
Please praise the cinematographers. They seem to give all the fancy shots to Elrond which is quite funny.
Tumblr media
"We barely had the strength to flee" oh my heart fucking broke. Why do they do this to this guy? Let the poor elf retire in Imladris in peace. (Also, imladris?! Yay!) Thank you to the writers and Elrond for finally acknowledging the physical and mental toll of war. It's literally the reason Imladris becomes what it will be, because Elrond saw war and lived it, lived WITH it all his life. Let him retire please.
Tumblr media
THIS IS WHAT I MEAN. PRAISE THE CINEMATOGRAPHERS. The look into the camera, the decision he has to make, chefs kiss.
I don't know what to expect to happen with his character next season, but I very much hope it involves Durin. His character arcs over the last 2 seasons have been insane, that's why he's so easy to ramble about, the characterisation and acting of him is phenomenal. Please be kind with them all, Amazon.
Lastly: ARONDIR AND VOROHIL LIVE. Please let Camnir be in Lindon, untouched, making maps and drinking tea.
Tumblr media
Overall I really enjoyed the episode. Some of the Harfoots bits as I've said were a little odd but overall a great episode. Loved the parallels in this, the gorgeous shots, representing the mental toll from torture and war and also having the bravery to show that kind of thing on screen! I hope dearly that season 3 will only be better and continue to flesh out these character we love so much.

My messy thoughts on season 2 (all three episodes) so far below the cut
- LOVE the way Sauron formed his body. Absolutely horrifying.
- Charlie Vickers is terrifying; other Sauron actor was good but his baby face didn’t help matters. I wish they’d just put a different wig on CV because DAMN; he unsettles masterfully. Could not keep my eyes off of him in episode 1. He was riveting.
- I do read Sauron’s intro in episode 1 as he was both genuinely considering or striving for repentance, but also the ultimate opportunist — stealing the king of the southlands mark, then all he does with Galadriel. Truly I think Sauron is better as the ultimate opportunist capable of great planning and machinations, but it’s not believable unless he’s handy at a pivot
- I realized that BOTH Sauron and Galadriel were mutinied against (which like, I don’t know how I didn’t think of that until seeing it because it’s not like we didn’t know generally what happened); more reason to believe that their connection was real and not deception. He meant the things he said in the forge scene on some level, and you cannot convince me otherwise
- Again, CV absolutely kills every scene/moment with Adar. The hatred and desire for revenge and scheming; it’s all palpable. Him and Sam H. also have electric chemistry. I greatly enjoyed all his scenes in Mordor in Ep 1
- I’m absolutely living for all of the angst even though it hurts. Elrond, Galadriel, GAL MISSING HER BOYFRIEND… (and being equally terrified of what she’s done/having let him in)
- THE FLASH TO THEIR MOMENT IN THE FOREST FROM UDUN WHEN GAL IS TRYING TO CONVINCE ELROND TO COME WITH HER! I died
- The lead-up to Annatar’s reveal was so good. Sauron is way too good at what he does.
- Okay the vision with celebrimbor plus whispers of Galadriel was great but I need more mind palace shenanigans ASAP
- This show is really gonna make me root for Isildur isn’t it (not like I wasn’t but I am enjoying seeing more of him, especially saving Berek. Horse girl at heart, just like his dad and descendant)
- Earien is making me mad but Valandil gave me LIFE
- poor Miriel. And Elendil. And Theo and Arondir 😭
- Charles Edwards is also doing wonderfully. I especially appreciated his subtlety in episode 3
- Disa and Durin are again faves. Love how Durin was immediately sus of Annatar
- I am very worried for Nori and Poppy but also I know they’re fine. It’s almost weird hearing The Stranger/Gandalf talk but I feel like they’re building to a confirmation with all the name stuff.
- Loving it so far but I want more Sauron and Galadriel and specifically them both SOON, pleeeeease (idk if we’re getting it but I can hope!)
There’s more but this is all I can coherently muster rn. Biggest disappointment? That we have to wait for the rest! 😆🫠🫠🫠

I can’t wait until Isildur comes home/finds out what happening in Númenór. “Dafuq, the Queen has been overthrown and my dad is in prison??” Who’s going to tell Earien that Kevin killed her oldest friend, cause it won’t be Kevin. Obsessed with Elendil walk out, legend.
I headcannon that Sauron and Adar have the same taste in women, so that’s why his hair looks more voluminous 😂 Both of them are like “Galadriel 😍” I get it
Elrond is running on “I told you so” spite and a power that younger siblings have.
I HAD TO TURN THIS INTO A MEME:
Tumblr media
Yeah. Isildur, poor baby, he's going to be so shocked 😭 I wish Elendil hadn't stopped Valandil when he did, and I'm sure the Valar would've forgiven him for the kinslaying. I WANT TO PUNCH KEMEN MYSELF. ONE, TWO OR A THOUSAND TIMES. UGH!!!!
Also, Adar definitely shampooed and conditioned his hair before meeting Galadriel. I mean, he was about to meet one of the most beautiful elves, so... It's only natural to want to make the best first (or second...) impression 🥰

elrond has suffered so many tragedies and has to do the job he hates and on the top of everything, he has to scold galadriel mind-calling her ex and has to go through ptsd when his daughter brings said ex's lookalike to their family get-togethers.
he suffered more than jesus.
what torment will await him in season 3?
LMAO the poor man will never know peace.
Elrond is LOTR's Obi-Wan Kenobi to me. They both suffered immeasurable tragedies, but they always stayed true to their beliefs, never were even close to be corrupted, and were always there for their loved ones, bringing hope when there seemed to be none left (the reforging of Elendil's sword for Aragorn).
I hope they won't go too hard on him in the following seasons...

out of the water, cold and blue
Prompt: Númenor for @tolkienhorrorweek day 7
Summary: As the seas grow restless, Elendil feels a presence drawing near. He is less and less sure that it is friendly.
Character(s): Tar-Míriel & Elendil
Rating: T
Word count: 4.8k
Warning(s): body horror
Tumblr media
Elendil could have wept for joy when he realised that he was being haunted. It had begun with small things. Hearing a voice in the whisper of the waves at dusk, a voice that his servants assured him, eyes darting meaningfully at each other, was not there. Familiar music seemed to rise with the sighing of the wind, as if just beyond the next cove the old palace minstrels of his youth played on, before ever Ar-Pharazôn first thought himself worthy of infamy and renown. The past, he thought, standing upon the balcony outside his chambers, nagging at the edges of his mind, reaching out to him through the veil. A deep, yearning ache ran through him, standing before the night and the wind, listening to those sounds calling from the darkened sea. And yet it was all easily dismissed. Men hear many things on the sea wind, both imagined and best avoided.
Then there had been that feeling, walking along the sea shore, clambering over the rocks in search of what he did not know, that just at the edge of his vision someone was following him. Nimble feet leaping silently from barnacled rock to barnacled rock, never slipping on seaweed or slime, hands fluttering like butterflies in the cool, sharp air. He had said nothing this time, had let the phantom follow him. If it were a conjuring of his imagination it was best left alone and if it were not, maybe his silence would encourage it forth, like an animal which retreats into its den at the sound of Man’s approach but can be lured into the light if one feigns disinterest. It was so familiar, not in the way of someone that is known but something that is cherished, loved, home. He thought it was his wife, poor fool. He wondered if she hid from him because she thought he would be afraid of her, but for those few precious days of delirium, of imagining that he saw Mirima's face reflected in the rockpools as he walked, there had never been a man more happy to be haunted than Elendil. He would wonder afterwards whether there had been something sinister to it all, to the whispering voice and the music and the shadow on the edge of his mind, a malice that he had missed in his desire to hold onto someone long slipped from his grasp. Or maybe he had not missed it. Maybe he had not cared, had only reached for the feeling of home, neglecting to remember that the home in question was a dark, dead thing, fallen into the unforgiving depths and weighed down with the screaming of the doomed.

RoP season 2 episode 5
Thoughts and opinions, because I have nowhere else to ramble about it Heavy spoilers below the cut ofc
Oh so, so we came back to Annatar and Celebrimbor, didn't we? And we begin to see the cracks! The end of the episode was heartbreaking; it is already easy to see the results of Annatar's manipulations and how it takes its toll on Celebrimbor. The poor elf just wanted to make a cute arts and crafts project (~~better than any made before~~) and now his "best friend" NOT ONLY outwards lies to him about dwarven rings, but also tells his protege that it was her master who she saw in the shadow realm? WHAT? Masterful.
Tumblr media
I love it already looks like Celebrimbor is leaning a little bit back, looking into Annatar's eyes a little unsure. I was surprised by Annatar's boldness in this episode... I expected more cute smiles and sweet words. But I suppose the main reason behind it lies in time constraints. Time constraints that are also heavily noticeable in different parts of the narration; mainly, the Numenor situation. I was kind of displeased with episode 3 for the whole plot about Numenor being so shallow; it lacked the emotional stakes for me, it felt too rushed, too sudden; we as an audience seemed to lack the appreciation of golden times of Numenor to feel moved by its potential fall. But the shrine scene, if I catch you shrine scene
Tumblr media
That was a moment when suddenly I became invested in the Numenorian plot; mostly because of the beautiful portrayal of Elendil by Lloyd Owen, but also because suddenly with the Valandil situation the whole thing became personal. It was actually surprisingly great. I am still of the opinion that this whole coup piece of plot would oh so benefit from being written a little more subtly (the motivations behind it were really hardly developed), but as for what we have in this adaptation, I loved this scene. Although I screamed with Elendil at my screen for Valandil to choose differently. AND NOW ELENDIL WILL THINK IT WAS BECAUSE OF HIS ORDER HIS SON'S BFF HE HIMSELF CALLED SON IS DEAD DEAD Captain, oh my captain The captain scene was also beautiful, because it was an exception to one thing - is it only me or this show has some serious problem with taking lordship quite… seriously? What I kinda got tired of in the plot is everyone disobeying their lords all the time; when I saw this tired face of Gil-Galad I thought he really deserves to have his scowl, it seems to be the worst position to be in Middle Earth right now: a king.
Tumblr media
When you think everyone keeps telling you what to do and don't listen to your orders do not worry... There are like five other lords, kings and queens that have the same treatment, one queen is even I believe trapped in her tower after a coup, so it really could have been worse. The last thing about this episode: the dwarves I was kinda unnerved of how quickly the rings negatively impacted king Durin? I did not like the idea of rushing this process that much BUT I really enjoyed the explanation behind it, the idea that it is because of a direct will of Annatar and that he would gaslight Celebrimbor into thinking it was his fault. And it works! The greed and pride and deception as making the ring faulty. And the pride that keeps Celebrimbor from admitting it; the FEAR that he accidently did something not perfect, but even bad; that he may not accomplish the dream, but live the horror. (Well, Tyelpe-) The dwarves. I was to write about the dwarves! It was as always solid visually and in terms of characters, Disa is still a queen and Durin IV really needs to have his emotional Elrond back. I was trying to be upset upon the choices of king Durin, but somehow I was too happy upon him welcoming his son back to be angry. I will still regret it, I fear.
Tumblr media
Watcher of the deep? Also: Elrond run was epicTM
Tumblr media
Run Elrond Run Final notes:
although as ever i have my issues with it, I loved the episode ofc
the only minus? One running Elrond scene was not enough, please, more Elrond next!!!
Annatar/Celebrimbor and dwarves plots are solid still
Numenorian plot tries his best
and as once kind of delivers
feel free to share your opinions or correct me in any way, but please let's be civil
in ao3 fashion sorry for any mistakes, I am not a native English speaker and it shows lmao
till next week, maybe? Possibly? If I have as much to say as for this episode XD
Thanks for your attention
