Reading the newly-published Amy’s Choice original script, and!!! The Doctor's arc!!! I understand cutting back on it to better focus on the titular Choice of Amy, but the way the script uses the Doctor's self-hatred to really explore his feelings towards the Ponds and their relationship does feel balanced here, I wish more of it was left in!
As someone who loves the angle of the Doctor yearning to be worshiped and hating himself for it, I might have ulterior motive to wish this scene wasn't cut:
Tumblr media
But really, it's the way it shows the Doctor is slowly unravelling as his relationship with Amy and Rory is picked apart — one thing I'm not sure the episode fully got across is that the Dream Lord is picking on the Doctor first and foremost, and picking on the Ponds because it upsets the Doctor to know that he's hurting them.
Tumblr media
If only each episode just got a full hour runtime honestly!
Tumblr media
The next screenshot is good. “You’re my friends.” Of course! They both are! Of course he's insecure — of course he wonders, in Amy's grown-up married life, where the imaginary friend fits in. (After all, Martha and Donna got married promptly after leaving, and Rose kind of ended up the same.)
Tumblr media
But now that he's no longer insecure about their closeness excluding him, he's no longer so confident the TARDIS is real — a mirror to the way Rory no longer cares once he knows Amy would rather die than be without him.
This next scene is partially in the episode, but as much as I like the Doctor ignoring the Dream Lord, the Doctor's “Because they never see me again doesn’t mean I never see them” is everything for his Pond family vibes here — featuring inner turmoil. He does inevitably hurt his companions, but he always loves them, too.
Tumblr media
In the frozen TARDIS, they're actually dying, their organs and brains are shutting down, so the Doctor forces them to keep moving and repeat after him to keep them alive and he shouts how he loves them, because that's what matters to him, they are all that matter to him:
Tumblr media
Which makes Rory's inevitable demise in the next story so much harder! Honestly, I already been disappointed about the Hungry Earth deleted scene on YouTube where the Doctor is talking to Amy about how much he likes Rory, but hey, I see the love between these three in Season 5, and I love that we have so many scripts to affirm it.
If only each episode just got a full hour runtime so all this didn't have to be cut!!!
The script library, if anyone hasn't seen it. It used to mostly have recent stuff, but now it has a whole lot more! (Don't go there looking for Season 7 or 8 though.)

brief drabble set during River and Rory’s interaction during A Good Man Goes To War
“It’s my birthday,” River said, her eyes imploring. Her birthday, and her father just happened to show up? In that outfit, as well? The one of legend?
Perhaps her mum and the Doctor were waiting around the corner, waiting to jump out and yell, surprise!, and her mum would pull her into a hug, and they would laugh together, and talk about how the Doctor (a future Doctor) had taken her ice skating on the Thames while Stevie Wonder performed, and she and her parents could be a family unit.
He recognized her.
But he didn’t.
To him, she was the Doctor’s time-crossed wife, an enigma, one he encountered now and then.
Not the girl he’d grown up with, the one who always got into trouble and needed to be bailed out by Amy.
Nor the one who teased the two of them during their sleepovers, who rigged games of spin the bottle such that Amy always landed on Rory and Rory always landed on Amy.
Not his daughter.
A stranger in all but name.
He talked about the baby — his baby — the one he hadn’t known about until it was too late; the little girl in the astronaut suit whose calls for help went ignored for so long, who wandered the streets of New York sick and alone.
Her face fell.
“I can’t. Not yet, anyway.”
Anger crossed Rory’s features. “I’m sorry?”
As she spoke, she wanted to explain.
It’s me, her mind screamed. I’m Melody!
Melody Pond. Mels.
River Song.
You lose her, she thought; your baby girl.
But they didn’t.
Not really.
Rory’s stare burned daggers into her.
Her father.
”It’s my birthday,” she thought.
And I’m alone.

thinking about how excited River must’ve been for Rory to visit on her birthday, only to realize 1) he doesn’t know her yet and 2) she has to disappoint him by refusing to help

Hi, if you’re still doing Doctor Who fanfics, I was wondering if you could please write a silly little 11th Doctor x Platonic!TimeLord reader where they are best friends and have a relationship dynamic like Joey and Frankie from the Basement Yard Podcast.
Like they’re in a dangerous scenario and one of them makes a joke and they both just start laughing. Or when they’re on the TARDIS they’ll be arguing and then one of them says something that reminds them of a song and they both just start singing it. And they use insults and a term of endearment.
I think this would be really fun and silly, but no worries if you don’t want to.
Thanks<3
okay I’m gonna be honest, I have no idea who those guys are but I’ll still do this idea.
Okay so one thing the 11th doctor is the best next to Tennant (yeah I’m biased cause Matt smith is MY doctor).
and yeah being friends with 11’s doctor is a WILD ride!!
yet at the same time you guys just click with one another from the moment you guys meet.
let’s say both of your chaotic energies just mesh together like fish fingers and custard hehehe
and that sometimes can be pretty strange or confusing to others especially when it comes to saving the galaxy
like this one time when you, the doctor and the Ponds got ambushed by the Daleks.
“Resistance is futile. Prepare to be exterminated!”
“Damn and I think I left the stove on in the Tardis.” You say.
at that comment 11 couldn’t help but say.
”how many times does this make? The fourth? The fifth?”
”lucky number seven actually my friend. But you’ve forgotten plenty of times. Remember when you thought a grease fire could be extinguished with water?”
“And you could’ve told me that?”
after briefly glaring at one another you both start to laugh.
“What is all this?” Proclaimed one of the daleks.
”it’s better you go with it” Amy said.
There was also another time with some space pirates that had taken a town hostage for their crops and money (real bugs life type situation)
they had you and the gang in cages along with the villagers and the pirate captain was going on a villainous monologue of how he was superior than these foolish villagers.
"With the subordination of these meek-little farmers, soon the entire galaxy will know my name! BLAZER THE WRATHFUL!!!" the pirates soon uproared in celebration, but soon a loud laugh overcame that.
It was your laughter.
"Something funny monkey!?"
"I'm sorry, I-I'm sorry my dude, did you say your name is Blazer-fury?"
"Yes!"
"So do you--shoot blazers out of wrath?" you ask.
"Enough out of you! Or we'll kill you first!"
But you couldn't help but snicker under your breath. The Captain turns back to you demanding what's funny.
"I'm sorry. My guy I am soo sorry. I just keep thinking to myself of how every morning you standing in front of them mirror saying to yourself, 'You know what would be a real kick-ass name! BLAZER THE WRATHFUL!!' HAHAHAHAH! That's how I hear you in my head. Remember Doc like that movie?!"
"Which one? You mean the Dinosaur one? Ahh I remember when we got to have those dinos on a space ship. That was a fun time."
"No, no, no Doctor you know the one with the talking Raccoon."
"Oh yeah. Huh? Art imitates life."
"RIGHT!?!? HEY! HEY CAP! What was your second choice gonna be? BLAZER THE SCROTUM HEAD!?"
At your comment, you had his entire crew laughing when Blazer the wrathful puleld you against the bars, his sword to your neck as he sneered.
"That's it wench! You die now!"
"Well, dying would certainly be better than living in a galaxy where a misogynistic moron who thinks Blazer the Wrathful is a kickass name." you said bluntly before using your taser gun that River gave you the last time you both met.
In the end, you all saved the village and defeated the piarates.
Overall, when it comes to being you and the Doctor, you better watch out cause there's bound to be some chaos, mischief, and a bit of eye-rolling due to their chaotic energy together.
"Hey Doc! Where's the flux-capacitor on SEXY?"
"She doesn't have one of those, this is a TARDIS, not a Delorian."
"Do you think she'd be able to transform into that?"
"No! I like her this way and this way she'll stay."
"Then can you make me a time-machine Delorian?"
"No."
"C'MON DOC!!"
Yeah, chaotic energy at the max.

Imagine a “Watching Doctor Who fic” but it’s the companion’s family, like
Brian Williams actually seeing what they did on their adventures and Anthony seeing a younger version of his parents, it’d shock Amy’s family how they never existed for more than half her life
And suddenly woah Rory’s a centurion and then Anthony would realise woah, he has a sister and her name’s melody— no, river song???
(I think they’d talk about Mels to Anthony, but there’s only so much you can tell your kid without revealing that she was kidnapped and brainwashed to kill someone lmao)
Like, Brian and Anthony has heard about it but it’s not the same as feeling and experiencing the chaos.
-
Or the doctor and companions watching Future River Song’s timeline, I see a few watching the show fics but they never get to River😞
Sorry guys the Ponds are my favourite

started work on an extremely indulgent crossover fic that starts off with river. so here is a snip :) read for celia-typical feelings about amy and river's dynamic, as always, forever.
“That one, look over there,” Amy was saying, a giggle in her voice as she nudged River’s shoulder. “Is that a space Chihuahua in her purse?”
River squinted, her mouth twitching. “Actually, I believe the closest thing to that on Earth would be – well –” She considered, drawing upon centuries-ago biology classes at Luna University. “Have you ever wondered what it might be like if a hyena and an electric eel had some sort of clandestine affair?”
“Has anyone?” said Amy, still all giggles. “Slimy laughter, that’s what it’d be, River.”
“Now, that’s a band name,” said River without thinking.
Amy looked at her askance, eyes still shining, and River realized her mistake. “Do you know,” said Amy, in the same tone of voice she’d said everything else, “my best friend Mels, she says that all the time?”
“Oh?” said River.
“You two would get along,” said Amy, tapping her chin with her pointer finger. “You’d probably explode a whole planet, mind, but you’d get along.” She looked shyly up at River. “What about you, River? Do you have a space best friend?”
Everything in River ached. Every day. Hurt in a way that would never stop hurting. She’d thought it had been agony when she first found herself in this body, giving up every other life she would ever have to pull the Doctor forward, but watching her mother slip away from her, look at her with unknowing eyes and a casually friendly smile, was pain beyond anything she’d ever known.
Lucky thing, then, that River refused to interrogate her feelings on this.
“Spoilers,” she said.
“How the hell is that spoilers?” said Amy, an incredulous laugh in her voice.
River considered her words carefully. “My best friend is my mother,” she said.
“You have a mother?” said Amy. Then, “No, hang on, wait, you’re a mummy’s girl? Oh, Christ, your mum must be psychotic.”
River thought of Kovarian, then Amy. “In a sense.”
“Or, wait, was that rude?” Amy was continuing. “I’m sorry, I just–just, the thought of you with a mum is terrifying. Some part of me feels as though you were just born with all that space hair and a blaster.”
River suspected that Amy had never quite stopped feeling that way about her. “Well, I do have a mum,” she said, “and she–”
What to say about Amy? Amy was her whole world. River’s earliest memory was of Amy holding her, whispering words of such love. Even when Amy had been so, so little, just the joy of being around her again had been enough to very nearly eclipse the grief of never being little Melody Pond, with a mum who was big enough to hold her. No way to boil Amy down into a pithy little sentence. Impossible for River to even try.
“Oh, no, don’t tell me,” said Amy wisely, before River could. “She’s someone important too, isn’t she? And you can’t tell me or the Doctor, ‘cause we’ll meet her soon enough.”
“Spoilers,” said River, tapping her nose, and smiled like it was easy.

Propaganda Under Cut:
Ellie Wagner (Foster Mother of Lizzie, Juan + Lita): Ellie took and instant liking to bold and argumentive Lizzie and decided that she and her husband wanted to adopt her. When Lizzie had two little siblings although at first alarmed about having so many children she took them in. She enjoyed playing with and endulging the two younger children. And, although, she struggled to connect with Lizzie she always tried and when she found out she was being groomed by an adult man she beat the shit out of him, spending a night in the cells, and promised to be always there for Lizzie.
Amy Pond (Mother of Melody Williams a.k.a. River Song and Anthony Williams): Amy having absolutely no knowledge of her pregnancy until she was in labour immediately loved her newborn daughter. She begged for the Church to not take her daughter from him and was overjoyed when she thought the Doctor and Rory had rescued their daughter. She was then devestated to lose her baby twice in one night. She was desperate to find her daughter and despite never being able to raise River she loved and supported her.

Having a Family - Pond Family
"River doesn't wanna go to her grandparents' house since all their relatives are going to be there and she isn't in the mood to spend the majority of her day explaining that she was indeed family and not a friend of her parents. Thankfully her grandparents are the best and make her feel so comfortable once there, also they always have her favorite sweets in stock for whenever she visits "
word count ─ 1.3k
tags ─ little! river, amelia pond, rory williams, tabetha & augustus pond, sweets, a little anxiety attack, family, i just want my poor river to have a little bit of a childhood
notes ─ This is for the Candy & Family prompt. I really enjoy Doctor Who, specially any episode with River on it. Please enjoy this piece
Tumblr media
Melody Pond, Mels Zucker or River Song
no matter what you know her as, she is in the end the same person, different personalities but that’s expected when you grow specially if you had grown up like she had, all over the place. But the foundation was the same, an orphan who would do anything to be close to her family, even if that meant distancing herself from them and not acknowledging that she longed for that closeness.
Luckily for River her family also would do anything to be close to her, even if that meant tracking her throughout all fabric of space and time, and dragging her to the family reunion that she was escaping from.
Don’t get her wrong all her life she had wished for these kind of things, having her parents force her to attend family functions that would be so boring, relatives asking her an infinity of questions trying to make their kids be a step ahead of her, food that might not be the best but having to pretend that it was magnificent to not hurt someone’s feelings
you know the normal things that ensue having a family.
But in her fantasies her parents were really parent age, meaning that a normal gap between their ages existed, not like this were she was actually older than them and everyone would question their sanity at saying she was actually the child. She wanted a normal life were her parents raised her on their little town of Leadworth, she would still have gotten in lots of trouble at school and her mum would still have to wait outside the principal’s office and berate her for her misbehavior, but in this life her dad would be alongside her and neither of them would be wearing the same uniform as her.
At the moment it was believable that River is younger than Amy and Rory, since she had a encounter with the wrong crowd on planet ZedAndromeda98 and her body had gotten younger, but still the gap wasn’t what it should be, she was only a couple of years younger than her parents.
She wanted to avoid unwanted attention on the gathering, but her parents had literally dragged her to her grandparents house, once she was spotted by Tabetha and Augustus there wasn’t a chance to escape.
With a sigh she went to where the older Ponds were sitting and greeted them, “Hello Mr and Mrs Pond, it’s a pleasure to see you” she said extending her hand for a shake, but of course her grandparents weren’t having that and let her know.
“Laddie, is that a way to greet your grandparents?” questioned Augustus grabbing River’s hand to pull her towards him and enveloping her between his big arms, whend he was finished hugging his granddaughter he passed her along to Tabetha.
“Bobbins how you've been? You seem awfully skinny, have that hotheaded of your mom been feeding you well?” questioned Tabetha checking River from head to toe, and when she was satisfied proceeded to hug her and kiss her on the cheek, letting her go with a pat to her bum.
River was mortified at the prospect of someone seeing what had just happened, everyone would think her grandparents were weird, and most likely wouldn’t invite them to any more family functions, then they would surely hate her and therefore her parents too.
Sensing the distress she was feeling, Amy grabbed her, hugging her in order to ground her and prevent an anxiety attack from River, “Shh Mels, everything is okay. Nobody saw or heard anything, and even if they had you know we Ponds are stubborn and won’t let anyone bad talk you” stated Amy rocking them from side to side.
“And us Williams don’t let what anyone says about us to stop us. If we did you would not be right here” said Rory winking at the last part, getting a light chuckle from River and a punch on the arm from Amy, scolding him for his comment, “Gosh Rory, don’t say those kinds of things in front of our kid or our parents!!”.
“Exactly bobbins, we don’t care about anyone else, the important thing is having you and having a great time as a family” reassured Tabetha, getting a nod from her husband, “Yeah laddie, you always be more important to us. Now Amelia how about you and Rory go and help with the food”.
“Okay, we’ll go. Come on Mels let go help the fami
” “Stop there Amelia! Our ban-ogha stays here with us” reprimanded Tabetha making her granddaughter sit between her and Augustus, preventing her parents from taking her away.
Hearing the gaelic term let River know that her grandparents were giving her permission to regress freely, they had quickly accepted the regression when they learned about it, saying they had come to terms with the confusing timeline, so this was easier to understand.
“Mamaidh, me stay with seanmhair and seanair. No worry” said River with a cheeky smile, “Okay you can stay, but promise me you’ll be good Melody” demanded Amy, knowing that her parents loved getting on her daughter's misbehavior, letting her be her chaotic self.
“She’s always an angel Amelia, so stop worrying and go on” reprimanded Augustus at them insinuating that his precious Melody could do wrong. With a final “Be good for your grandparents Melody” and a kiss on her forehead from her dad, River was left in her grandparents care.
When they were finally occupied and out of ear range, Tabetha told Augustus to retrieve the booty, he returned with a tin lunch box and placed it in front of the little girl, “Go on laddie, open it. We know you’ll like it so much”.
Inside were all her favorite candies, both English and Scottish ones, she was so touched since lots of them were from back when she was Mels Zucker, “Can I eats them?” asked the little girl throwing a big-eyed look at her grandparents, after the affirmative nod from them she began dig in.
There where some scottish macaroons, tunnocks teacake, edinburgh rock, jelly babies, cadbury chocolate, maltesers, and lots more; she always had a sweet tooth, but back when she lived in America as Melody, Madame Kovarian never let her eat sweets saying how she couldn’t be that childish if she wanted to see her parents again.
Then came her time as Mels, Kovarian didn’t have that much involvement in her new upbringing so that’s when she got more liberty to do as she pleased, back then spending time on the Pond residence meant getting to eat anything her heart desired, since the Zuckers were also strict with her diet.
And once she turned into River, she was put into Stormcage to serve her time of twelve thousand life sentences, and sweets weren't exactly part of her diet there, of course, she escaped every once and then but on her trips, the opportunity to grab sweets weren't huge.
At that moment she realized that her wish had indeed come true, she had gotten to spend quality time with her family in an environment where she was acknowledged as the child of Amelia Pond and Rory Williams. She also had amazing grandparents, both Tabetha and Augustus Pond alongside Brian Williams, who were the most amazing ones, always getting in her shenanigans and spoiling her rotten.
Melody Williams-Pond was indeed a lucky girl, she had an amazing family that loved her and always reminded her of that fact, she was able to relieve moments from her past that she missed in the form of her regression. And the most important thing, all 3 of her grandparents always had a huge supply of her favorite sweets for when she visited, of course, hidden from her parents, just like a visit to your grandparents' house is supposed to be like.
So Melody
 Mels
River is forever grateful for having this amazing opportunity, there are times when she wishes she had grown up like any normal kid, but she prefers this life where aliens and spaceships are part of it, where she can visit any point in time and space alongside her amazing family.

I'm thinking about the horror of the Doctor from the perspective of non-companions again, especially as it relates to people those companions know.
Rose? "Ran away" (not wrong) for "a year" (a week) with a "man" (alien) "twice her age" (approximately 50 times her age but yeah, he is Time Lord middle aged), and then gives absolutely no explanation for how or why that happened, except that she was "travelling".
Then when her mum does get an explanation (which, frankly, is only comforting because of the unfamiliarity of the alternative given. The devil you know.), Rose barely checks back in.
She almost dies for him. When she thinks he's dead, she's changed in a way her family doesn't know how to handle. Then she's gone for who knows how long and comes back with the Doctor wearing a new face.
When her original tenure as a companion ends, and Rose lives in Pete's World, she works for Torchwood/UNIT (they become the same organization). She volunteers for the Dimension Cannon. She explains to the alternate earth how to rig up a time machine.
She's changed in ways that no one else can really understand.
Amy? There's everything with River Song of course (though I'm still not there in my viewing), him running away with Amy the night before her and Rory's wedding, and also the connection between the Doctor and the Time Crack being the reason all of Amy's family's dead. Obvious stuff.
However he's also the strange man who broke into this child's house and made a mess of her life that she never got over, that promised to take her away from here, that she wrote about and drew and carved and made her friends dress up as.
And they sent her to psychiatrist after psychiatrist without any help. In their perspective, to work through what she imagined. In her perspective, to tell her that her reality wasn't real.
And then he comes back.
And to some extent, later, when he shows himself to everyone, isn't that more frightening? That the story your child told you, of the strange man she met as a child, of time travel, of nearly being stolen away, hadn't been a lie, or a misinterpretation, or an imagining?
And so he shows up at her wedding. And steals her away again.
Donna I feel like has the least horror until her final episode. I think exploring the in between section of her meeting the Doctor and finding him again would be interesting, but not exactly horror. More an exploration of how obsessive the companions can get about him, how it eats their whole lives with even one encounter, even as it makes them better people.
And then, obviously, the horror of having your mind altered and erased against your will by someone you trusted. For your own good, of course. Because he knows best. How could you know better than him? He's ancient. He's practically all knowing.
Shouldn't you be grateful?
(And he's forgiven.)

I keep thinking about how peem is so incredibly kind to literally everyone, how one of the very first things we learn about him is that he can't say no. how he stays late at a mall because the guy who forced him into a slave contract asked him to. and then we have phum who seems to be very prideful and stubborn at first. he pulls pranks on peem, he doesn't make any particular effort to get along with anyone. and how that changes. how phum gets closer to peem and starts to open up to everyone and - is happier. and how the biggest reason for that is... well it's kind of peem but more than that it's family. he's welcomed into the friend group and he sees how they interact with each other and he sees how peem interacts with him and it just. phum has been working off of the assumptions he's built up over the years - that most people will see him a certain way, that even the people he loves and trusts will keep him at a distance. and family and childhood is so important and phum's just. he's just doing his best. he's literally everything to me. what was I talking about
