Burdened with the knowledge that bards as a profession have celtic origins and given that The Witcher is set in the 1200's when this would still be true it means Dandelion himself is probably either of celtic birth or education but nobody outside of me probably gives a fuck about that [he also operates more like a celtic bard than a modern one we won't get into all that though] basically what I'm saying is that Dandelion is Welsh to me thank you for listening

Here's a little embroidery piece* vaguely inspired by the Hungarian Kalocsa style embroidery, and not so vaguely inspired by Dandelion from The Witcher books and the many ways his name has been translated.
We have Buttercups, of course, for Jaskier (Polish), Pasque flower for Kökörcsin (Hungarian), Larkspur for Rittersporn (German), Marigold for Marigold (Czech), and Dandelion (English). Also Cornflowers for his eyes 😅
*I only just started to learn the ins and outs of embroidery, so this has many issues, but I'm still kinda proud of it.

One time I tried translating a Polish Witcher fan fiction into English and this happened
It's probably beacause the word for a sheath (or scabbard, like Google tells me) in Polish is also a name for vagina - pochwa (I guess It's more proper, medical term but still). So yeah lol

People are saying why are racists commenting on the live action of How to train your dragon because they race swapped a female lead.
It's always the same comments "it's a fantasy movie, chill" "stop hating on the characters". Well dear Karen i wouldn't mind if Disney wasn't so obviously greedy. They defend a corporation αν είναι δυνατόν-
The movies are supposed to be about Vikings myths so of course all the characters in the original animation looked like Vikings. They think people are hating on the actors? No the studios are the problem 😭
Same with the Witcher on Netflix. In which the series was based on a POLISH BOOK. And guess what? Zero Polands and the material was ruined to make it the next Game of thrones.
Some things like dragons and monsters existed and meant something to these cultures, but of course they always think progress is more skin colour than cultural heritage.
I don’t know what other ways I can come up to explain to them that I and all who agree would 100000 times over watch a show taking place in Africa with African characters about African heritage than one about a race bent Viking in which Nordic culture becomes like a pop culture pie anyone can take a piece from because ✨visibility✨🤡
Visibility is showing the heritage of those who are neglected and showing heritage accurately.
(Also you gotta love them calling everyone racist when they are almost certainly the ones who spend the most time thinking about skin colour globally. Fellows do I have news for you )
Another thing, many of these projects that based on the plot would need white / white-passing actors inexplicably race bend one character and the rest remain accurate. What does this tell you? That creators only do this to be “approved” and play the “look I got the diversity too!” card and not because this is the way they envision their work. Otherwise, they would have a cast where everyone is diverse, people from all the parts of the world, and not 20 north European looking actors and one inexplicable African-American, for example.
It’s really so hypocritical, I can’t believe people eat it up…

Au where Geralt, Jaskier and Ciri lives in wood cabin :P
I FINALLY END MY SUMMER JOB!!! And when i was working, my mind was full with the wicher. Im still reading books but i seriously like this stories. You know, im polish and the books are also polish. This is my bonding moment with cultures and this shitty country. Anygays.
Here are some details about this au:
1. Geralt was injured after a fight with some monster and Ciri finds this house. She decided to stayed there for some days for recovery. That was really late autumn and nights were starting to get cold. House seem nice and able to live in casually. Had bathroom at attic and free rooms at botto. And a really cozy taras. Also at the back, more deep in forest was small "stable" for Roach. They stayed there for winter.
2. House was not far from town, at bottom of mountains. Geralt ride before first snow for some food and important things. He met Jaskier in local inn. After small talk, witcher proposal him, to went together to cabin, ofc if he didn't have plans for weekend. (And because he missed him sm). Jasker immediately said "yes".
3. Snow fell and Jaskier needs to stayed with them for a little while, because the road to the city was covered with snow. (That was just good excuse to stay. Geralt normally went to city with killed monsters and to did his job) Sleeping on very uncomfortable couch.
4. After one week Jaskier's back had enough. He took his pillow and went to Geralt's room. Witcher was fine with sleeping in one bed with bard. They talk about putting mattress on attic but they never did. Sleeping in each other arms was to good.
[Here is plan of this house😌:]

also i realize i'm saying all these noble and beautiful things about the channel from the purest depths of my heart. but actually i'm also just doing this because i fucking love the witcher books and it pisses me off that people don't know about them that much in english and i can only go for so long (seven years) with people not knowing that there are books. or that the witcher is from the 90s. or polish.
#'whatt i didnt know the witcher was polish. wait where is poland' funky music stops.#like statements that just crush your soul?? my god netflix did a number on the witcher's perception#'so is it based on the video game? the book? there is a book?'#'waaait the second season wasn't accurate to the books? wdym...?'#>knowing the witcher >knowing henry cavill >not knowing who andrzej sapkowski is#when the literal writing is like inseparable from polish and that's why the translation is so hard#when the literal story is like chock full of allegories and references to real life polish history#and it only exists because of a very interesting time in contemporary polish history#like i'm not mad at the PEOPLE who don't know about the witcher i'm mad about how it's been TREATED#with witcher 3's fame at least people who knew the game generally knew a little more maybe#with netflix it's like no one knew anything about the actual witcher and it was really really sad#i do blame the artistic direction but i also blame the marketing and the writing and everything to do with everything#because how are they supposed to know if no one told them. if witcher here has been so separated from what it actually is and is about#like why not just leave witcher alone and get into any other fantasy. there is so much other fantasy out there. witcher is just one of them#yes and that is the plan in 10 years time but#it's not just about reading for personal enjoyment but for what witcher deserves in the english language space now#the witcher series is about suffering but idk if its characters or IT ITSELF has suffered more#zoltan chivay voice 'there IS something like reciprocity after all'#witcher helped me so now i want to help it. i will not abandon you in your time of need !#maybe people know more about the witcher than i think and i've just been incredibly unlucky in my experiences but#people thinking there is only netflix and the third game maybe would be hilarious if it wasn't so fucking sad#IV

People in Witcher world go by two calendars. Those in the North use the 12-month calendar, while the South use the elven 8-month calendar. The Witcher as a book series was written by a Polish guy, and the games were made in Poland by a Polish developer. That being said:
