Headcanon: No matter what ship(PoliOdy, Odydio, etc) if it's other than OdyPen, Penelope is the first one to realize.

time loop!au where odysseus is forced to continuously attempt to get home alive and he realizes that, no matter how hard he tries, he simply cannot save polites. it is weaved in the very fabric of his existence, his fate, and the only way that odysseus can ever get home is if polites does not come with him.

if it isn’t the cyclops, polites dies trying to protect his friends from the laestrygonians. if it isn’t the laestrygonians, he dies to poseidon’s hand as an example for odysseus’ disrespect. if it isn’t poseidon, he dies fighting circe because hermes is no longer there to help. if it isn’t circe, he dies fighting the souls of the underworld. if it isn’t the underworld, he dies falling for the siren’s song. if it isn’t the siren, he dies being struck by zeus’ lightning. if it isn’t lighting— oh, who am I kidding? it’s always the lightning.

polites will never make it— he can never make it. he falls victim to the narrative, the words of fate that dictate odysseus a hero in his own right. odysseus can only change if polites dies and he can only go home if he changes. with polites alive, he can never internalize what his morality means to him. with polites alive, he can never question his own judgment. with polites alive, odysseus remains fractured from the war and has no reason to fix it since, after all, you can still see yourself in a broken mirror.

it is no longer about choosing whose blood is on his hands, it’s about choosing which face he would rather see for the rest of his life. at least polites will only haunt his dreams.

The Page of Polites!

I made mer!Polites a porbeagle shark because they’re known to have playful behavior! They wrap themselves in seaweed and kelp for seemingly no reason other than joy :) They also just look adorable :D

Also, in my personal opinion, I think in a modern AU, Polites would have a Blahaj and would like MLP (I gave him a shirt with Pinkie Pie’s cutie mark ^^).

I also made P-otter-tes and sheep Polites because I think they’re cute and silly.

I haven’t posted art in actual years, so this is not only my first Tumblr post that isn’t a reblog, it’s my first art post that I’ve done in three years XD

I’m also somewhat of a “beginner” artist (I’ve been drawing for years but I’ve only recently started practicing art fundamentals/proper art techniques) so sorry if the art isn’t great.

Despite my lack of skills, I knew that Porbeagle Polites would have never been made if I didn’t try ^^ probably same with Polites holding a Blahaj.

I’ve seen a lot of cool ideas and theories of what Polites is doing in The Underworld (like him holding Antyanax and singing about open arms to him, yelling at Odysseus his whole philosophy of open arms) but I think I came up with a new one (if someone has already said this let me know bc I’m running off of one and half hours of sleep)

in this idea the reason why Polites sings so loudly is that he’s actively trying to yell over 558 men screaming at Odysseus, I imagine him actively pushing past the dead souls of his fallen comrades, desperately trying to make to Odysseus because he knows that he will blame himself and shut himself off to protect himself and others
