finally got some time to finish these guys up! which is sort of ironic considering I started these because I wanted to draw Malleus with a Dragapult, and then I just didn't for a million years!
Malleus has the aforementioned Dragapult, except it's a super special non-canon color Dragapult (like an anime-only form that you could get in-game exclusively through some limited-time event where you have to show up in-person at a specific location in Japan) (it has some wacky overpowered exclusive move/form and the OT is listed as Malleus) (so like that kind of ridiculous specialness) (Leona is extremely salty about this). also hoards and hoards of Dreepy. Dreepy LOVE Malleus. they take naps on his horns inbetween begging him to throw them across the island at mach speeds.
Lilia has a Drampa and a bunch of Woobat that he hasn't actually caught, they just follow him around in swarms because they sense a kinship with him. (also breaking my own rule again to say that he had a Mawile in the past, because...I just really wanted to give him a Mawile...)
Sebek has Sandile for obvious reasons, and also a Pikachu that bullies him relentlessly. :(
Silver has a shiny Corvisquire; I really went back-and-forth on also giving him an Aegislash, but...hm. those pokedex entries though. he can stick with just one for now.
(I hadn't planned on the shiny for him, but after I'd decided on the Corvisquire line and was looking it up for reference, I realized that shiny Rookidee is gold and then turns silver when it evolves and I lost my entire goddamn mind)

Especially when she was younger, Ansy would feel this need to just HIDE - the world was unsafe, & she had to go somewhere that was. Sometimes it was dissociation or daydreaming, other times it was finding a bathroom or corner to hide in until it was okay.
One of these times, someone came looking for her; Ingo found her as the sun was going down, & sat with her in that hiding spot. Among the things he told her, this one stayed with her into adulthood - it told her that even when it felt like the world was ending, it might not be, that there might be a way to keep going if she was brave enough to peek around the corner.
It is your right to be sad, worried, or angry, no matter what others around you may say. You have your own reasons for feeling whatever you may be feeling, & that is your business. My own tears have dried up. Now, I’m peeking around the corner, & I think I see a way forward.
We’ll be okay, so long as we don’t give up & isolate. In my experience, bad people will do everything to make you feel all alone, that no one is listening, & no one is coming. That’s not true, so long as we don’t close our hearts to each other, or to ourselves.
Take care, okay? 🩵 I may keep drawing, but if not, see you Sunday for the next DxP update. ^_^

Aw shit they put the horrors of late stage capitalism into my Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 😔
Tumblr media
(Mostly) Based on the mouthwashing dev QnA about each character’s favorite Pokémon. Couldn’t get the idea of throwing them into PMD out of my head.
Typical job at the Poke Express Guild:

Some more bonus drawings below
Jimmy secretly wishes he was a mega rayquaza but he’s just a poser who’s obsessed with pikachu’s popularity and position as the mascot. So. A mimikyu.
Daisuke is a zorua because it’s the closest to weregarurumon and I think it matches his vibes. Just a guy who causes a little bit o mischief here n there :)
I did make Daisukes weregarurumon wishes come true (No mega rayquaza for jim)

I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do with the background so I threw them into the dungeon. WOE upon ye

#i have some other sketches for this idea. either gonna throw them in a reblog or a new post#anyway had a lot of fun with this. yippeeee :)#mouthwashing#curly mouthwashing#captain curly#anya mouthwashing#swansea mouthwashing#daisuke mouthwashing#jimmy mouthwashing#pokemon#pokemon mystery dungeon#pmd#ANYWAY can i talk about how FITTING each characters favorite pokemon are#like curly chooses the safe popular/uncontroversial option. which parallels his approach to being a captain#jimmy likes the OP broken pokemon because hes obsessed with asserting power and control over other people#glaceon honestly just kinda has anya’s vibes. but also competitively: glaceon can hit hard when used effectively but has low defenses#and on the ship anya has to think more strategically and make sure she hits hard where it counts (moving the gun safe; locking the door)#swansea: dogy :)#<-in all seriousness: it’s a more obscure option that you might not really expect from someone like him#but also herdier is a very loyal pokemon that *wont listen to people it doesnt respect* which I think does fits swansea#daisuke choses something unconventional that’s only kinda related to the question (a digimon)#which I think is interesting considering how he’s having trouble fitting into other’s expectations for him. he knows what he likes but it’s#not what others expect of him. in a way#man i’m not very good at articulating this stuff but AUUGGHHGHG right?#MAN its such a great question for subtly revealing some of a characters personality#AUGH#i GOTTA figure out how to format stuff better lol#myart

Treasures of Ruin Headcanons
It is not uncommon to find stone figures of Ting-Lu marking settlements in northern Paldea. In ancient times, the custom was to put coins in the domed vessel atop its head, typically whenever one arrived or departed the village. The reasoning is not well understood. Some scholars believe they were merely respectful offerings. Others speculate that the coins were intended to weigh Ting-Lu's head down, to prevent it from escaping its shrine and ravaging the earth.
Paldea is home to a proverb, often translated as 'melt the sand and leave nowhere to stand'. It cautions against the ruinous effects of jealousy or envy, and likely traces back to Chi-Yu's origins. Both in Paldea and its surrounding regions, envy is associated with fire and heat.
It is commonly believed that flowers and fruit trees do not grow in the woods surrounding Grasswither Shrine, but this is not true. As any local will tell you, the fruit grows quickly, but rots quicker still. Wild pokémon do not eat it.
Paldean fables warn children against walking alone in heavy snow. If they see a snowman, they must ignore it - especially if it seems to be waving at them. Chien-Pao is the most playful of the Treasures of Ruin; while your eyes fix on the snow figure, you may miss the sheet of ice descending from above.
The exact nature of the Treasures of Ruin is poorly understood in modern Paldea. While their existence is accepted, there is dispute over the extent of their abilities and the level of destruction attributed to them. Some academics argue that they were only symbols of the bloodshed and environmental discord under the ancient monarch's rule, later elevated to legends via oral storytelling. However, more recent research supports the Treasures' historic reputation. A newly-published geological analysis of Grasswither Shrine detected elevated levels of heavy metals in the soil, with no clear source but the shrine itself.
Ornamental metal vessels, often known as 'worry bowls', are found in many houses across Paldea. They are a common gift for children, who are told to write their fears down on scraps of paper and put them in the vessel to be rid of them. Some believe that these bowls are styled after the vessel on Ting-Lu's head. The protective nature of the bowls is at odds with Ting-Lu's generally negative reputation, which may suggest that the Treasures were not always a symbol of evil in Paldean culture.
In old Paldean writings, frostbite is often referred to as 'sword touch' or the 'bite of the cat', thought to be physical evidence of Chien-Pao's ruin on the body. Even in modern Paldea, children are encouraged to wrap up warmly against the cold, lest 'the cat nip their nose'.

This is why i love him! He does reconese his flaws more later, and try to beter up himself.
I love the way he just is leal to himself and his pokemon, the determination he has and at the same time the way he dubs some tings and can and wild go and fix his mistakes.
Ash Ketchum at the Start
Ash Ketchum is a 10 year old from Pallet Town, the fourth trainer of four to leave Pallet at the time he would receive his first Pokemon.
He's portrayed from the start as very passionate about Pokemon, and there's little to deny about that. He oversleeps on his very first day, because he stayed up late, so excited to receive his first partner Pokemon.
I'd argue that in the very first episode, Ash learns a lot of extremely valuable lessons that shape the way that he interacts with Pokemon all the way through the show.
He has a lot of preconceived ideas that are quickly dashed, the first of these being that the first partner Pokemon are Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. However, when those are taken, Ash gets Pikachu!
Tumblr media
This is actually the inciting element that leads to Ash being the way he is. Typically, Pokemon given to starting trainers by Pokemon professors have been born, bred, and trained to be ready to be a trainer's beginning Pokemon. That's why they are considered perfect fits! They are already trained.
But Pikachu appears to still be wild, not yet trained to listen to commands or respect the will of it's trainer. I'm sure this is something a lot of trainers learn in their journey, but a big theme of the show is that Pokemon don't just naturally listen, even if you capture them! There has to be an element of respect involved.
Ash doesn't inherently know how to earn Pikachu's respect. He sets off on his journey literally dragging Pikachu along, because Pikachu won't get in the Poke Ball, and continues to shock him if he tries to force Pikachu to do anything it doesn't want to.
Tumblr media
But I think the show, even here, takes the time to set the stage for Ash's inherent respect for Pokemon; he realizes all too quickly that this isn't a good long-term solution, and decides to simply ask Pikachu what's the matter, and if it will get in the Poke Ball; he even tries to quote his Pokedex, to prove that "Pokemon travel in Poke Balls."
But Pikachu is quick to point him to the expanded information, that indicates that not all Pokemon like traveling in the Poke Ball! And when Ash learns this, he doesn't try to force Pikachu anymore.
In trying to handle being a Pokemon trainer on his own, though, when Pikachu declines to help, Ash stirs up a heap of trouble in the form of a flock of Spearow
Tumblr media
He and Pikachu make a run for it, but eventually find themselves pinned, with no more chance of running away.
So Ash, on his very first day out as a Pokemon trainer, with a Pokemon that has so far not been shown to like or respect him in the least, throws himself between the Spearow and Pikachu (the main target of the Spearow's attacks).
To protect Pikachu, he places Pikachu's poke ball beside Pikachu, and urges Pikachu to get inside for its own protection, since it is already too beat up to continue fighting, and he promises that he will fight off the Spearow for them.
Tumblr media
Even in this moment of peril, where it is implied that Pikachu's life could be in danger (though it's a kids' show, so they never state as much directly), Ash still does not force Pikachu into this decision! He knows and even verbally recognizes that getting in the Poke Ball is difficult for Pikachu, but urges that it is the safest thing to do. From a story perspective, this makes sense, because of the following action, but within the story this is something that I adore! Ash is listening to and respecting his Pokemon, while also trying to protect them!
It is this selflessness (for a Pokemon that he barely knows at this point!) that causes Pikachu to leap to the rescue, summoning a huge lightning bolt to defeat all of the Spearow, though it uses all of its remaining strength to do so.
This is the selflessness that we are going to continue see Ash using throughout the rest of the series! I think something stuck with him from this early experience, realizing that he is the caretaker of the Pokemon in his charge, and extending that even to Pokemon he does not own! He can and will put himself in harm's way if it's to protect those he loves and cares about, without a moment's hesitation.
And it is this self-sacrifice that the Pokemon around him see, and reciprocate (most of the time), and why Ash's own Pokemon give it their all; because they know for an absolute fact that Ash will do the same for them!
We've gotten just to the end of Season 1, Episode 1, and we already have a portrait of a kid that believes in doing the right thing, and isn't afraid to throw himself into doing it.
Ash Ketchum absolutely shaped my view of the world as a child, and while there's plenty of character flaws associated with this worldview too, the strengths that it gives you are awesome as well.
