Wow I am SO late to the party but that original book really is buck wild
Kanto was literally Kanto, as in irl Japan, with references to countries like France and Germany and the US... some of those probably also non-fictional, real world places?!
Pokémon were not intended as animal (and sometimes plant-) replacements, but a sort of cryptids that exist alongside familiar animals and have only been proven to exist by modern civilization species by species for like two centuries now. Some - even iconic ones like Dragonite - as recently as one year before the game's release. As a player, you were literally a pioneer in pokémon research. When you evolved a pokémon using a stone? You were canonically supposed to be probably the first person to officially confirm that. Researches dead ass had not even entirely confirmed which pokémon evolves into which, at the time. You were not playing around with well-known fauna, but some sort of crypto-biologist!!
From the glimpses we get, pokémon were supposed to be some sort of mutations of mundane animals (and non living phenomena) with some confusion possibly due to researchers not knowing what to even classify as a pokémon or what not.
A lot of the lore has changed or been made more vague but I must say I really kinda want to take the original as the "true" canon, at least for the most part
The 1991 official Japanese pokedex book was big news a couple years ago (full of what turned out to be the original, intended pokedex entries before they had to be cut short for the game data) but I think my favorite detail in the whole thing was that it compares Kabuto and Kabutops to Mogwai and Gremlins. That is directly in the original Japanese text. And it’s still supposed to be “in-universe” writing so either the “Gremlins” film franchise exists in the Pokemon world or Gremlins themselves exist(ed?) in the Pokemon world.

You ever think about how stressful it would be in-universe if someone caught a shiny Legendary Pokémon? Imagine it. You're a Pokémon researcher. You haven't seen any Legendary Pokémon in person, but you know they're out there. There are enough depictions of them out there and enough anecdotal eyewitness accounts that you at least have a pretty good idea of what even the rarer ones look like, can make an image for the textbooks and Pokèdex, even if there's some guesswork. You don't know much about, say, Giratina, but from what very scarce depictions the mythologists have managed to dig up, you're pretty sure it has some red on it. All the depictions agree on that count. Then some kid shows up with this creature of legend banished to another world, and it's blue. It is unmistakably, vividly blue, not a trace of red to be found. Now, you're not dumb. You know that Pokémon occasionally have drastically different colors, know all about what a Shiny Pokémon is and how uncommon they are. And that's your first thought. Well, obviously, this thing is shiny. But then it dawns on you - how can you know? Preponderance of the evidence suggests it. Why else would all these surviving depictions portray it as red otherwise? But could you prove it? Can you definitively say that's the case? Assuming this thing is shiny has the advantage of fewer assumptions than, say, assuming all of these people choosing red as a stylistic choice because of its associations with violence, but it's not like you can rule out something like that. You can't even rule out that there are multiple specimens of this thing out there and that there's a red specimen out there and it's the shiny. Though, you're pretty sure there's only supposed to be a single specimen of this thing, and in some ways that makes it worse. Kid came in with a lime green Arcticuno instead? Eh, heck, you can work with that. At least you have a shot at seeing a couple others in your lifetime and seeing which color is more common. Something like Giratina? If there is another one, you aren't going to see it. At least if you could see another one, and it was red, you could credibly say "okay, so there is a red one, and since it was more commonly seen and depicted, the blue one is probably shiny". But you'll never see another one, and you know it. So you know this thing is supposed to be red. You know that. You even call up the mythology buffs and they reconfirm it for you. They outright say not a one of the surviving depictions shows it as blue. In your heart of hearts, you believe a typical Giratina is red. Yet here it is, in the flesh before you, blue as can be. And because you can't dispute the possibility that this might be its normal coloration and the depictions were all wrong, and because these are the only reliable photos and documentation you or anyone you know is ever going to get, you have to base everything off of what's right in front of you. And so, despite everything, you have to update every darn textbook, every dex entry, everything to show Giratina as blue, because as far as anyone knows, and as far as the accompanying pictures are going to show, it's blue. It'd be frustrating, I think.
#pokemon#giratina#a friend pointed out that maxie would drop to his knees if he found groudon and it was yellow#all that time spent coordinating team magma's color scheme with groudon's mythologically-accurate colors and it's yellow#but archie with a shiny kyogre? archie would snap his fingers and have a grunt bring his hot pink pirate outfit#and he's so right about that

Surely that Trainer won't miss a Pokèball or two.
Look, when someone reminds him of himself when he was a child, but happens to be twice his age? They deserve to get mugged when he wasn't watching.
Hidden far away from that douchebag, Silver squats down, checking the two Ultra Balls. They're battered, a little dirty, and as he lets out the two Pokèmon - an Absol and one he never saw before - and went to turn on the Pokèdex to register them... he kind of waited to see their reaction.
Absol looks around, a little confused, almost looking for his partner before noticing the boy. He walks closer - or, rather, limps closer, clearly having some problems with his left front paw, and bumps his head against Silver's. The other one... a Ceruledge? Just walks back, keeping his eyes on the two. He seems to relax his shoulders when his companion immediately trusted their new Trainer, but clearly he wasn't sure of what to think about this.
"...
Hope nobody asks how I got you two.
ABSOL and CERULEDGE joined the party!

Hello professor, I hope this doesn't bother you but I noticed some misinformation regarding Slyveon. You have previously stated that they are herbivores but they're actually omnivores with a slightly more defined preference for meat. Their Alolan pokèdex entry actually takes note of their hunting behavior. ((The Sun and Moon dex entries specifically mention it)) have a nice day/night
((Stupid pokedex keeps contradicting me... You'd think this wouldn't happen after running this blog for like five years....))

Ephesians 6:4 (KJV)
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
My first time making a legitimate comic. Here’s a Pokémon comic I’ve been working based on the AU I’ve mentioned.
What’s currently happening is that: In the game Pokemon Legends: Arceus there is a character named Ingo. He got into a time mishap and ended up in the past. How that exactly happened is vague. Although, I believe in the theory that Arceus sent him there to complete the Pokèdex then deal with Volo but the Hisuian Zoroark encounter worsened his amnesia, since I think he’s the guy recording in “Mysterious footage found!”. He lost his Arc Phone so Arceus can no longer talk to him.
While Emmet’s fate is unknown, we can assumed he’s fine in present-day Unova. For this AU, Arceus also sent Emmet, but to Unova in the future. He’s goal is to deal with the mistreatment of Pokèmon.
He was found unconscious by the International Police, labeled as a Faller, and confiscated his Arc Phone. Even so, he still remembered parts of his past, but was grief-stricken that he somehow ended up in the future. The International Police took him under its wings, and Emmet now works for them since he doesn’t have anywhere to go.
However, the organization helped Emmet regained some of his memories and cope with his grief, but still hid the fact that he has an older twin brother. Emmet vaguely remembers Ingo, but kept being told that he never had one. When he clearly remembered Ingo, he went slightly unhinged and made a deal with a Nihilego to bring him back to Ingo.
Space-time rifts and Ultra Wormholes shares some similarities, where I think their the same thing. So a Nihilego would work as a time travel Pokémon. There’s also the similarities between Lusamine and Emmet. They both lost someone dear due to a rift or a wormhole, and would want to get them back. This isn’t the first time Emmet was depicted with a Nihilego in fanworks.
I’m planning to make a few more things about it, but here’s a comic about it.

1st Person Pronouns in Pocket Monsters Special
I thought it would be fun to have a look at what 1st person pronouns the Pokèdex Holders use in the Pokèmon manga, Pocket Monsters Special (known as Pokèmon Adventures in English).
Note: In Japanese, there are a ton of different 1st person pronouns people can use, and Japanese media often makes copious use of them. In a lot of shounen and shoujo manga/anime casts, you'll often get a large variety of 1st person pronouns in use by different characters to help flesh out their personality traits.
Note: I am not a native Japanese speaker, and I only have a conversational level in Japanese, as opposed to a fluent level. As such, please don't take anything I say as gospel.
* Red (レッド) ^ Fighter (戦う者): ore (オレ)
* Green Orchid (オーキド・グリーン) ^ Trainer (育てる者): ore (オレ)
* Blue (ブルー) ^ Evolver (化える者): atashi (アタシ)
* Yellow de Tokiwa Grove (イエロー・デ・トキワグローブ) ^ Healer (癒やす者): boku (ボク)
* Gold (ゴールド) ^ Hatcher (孵す者): ore (オレ)
* Silver (シルバー) ^ Exchanger (換える者): ore (オレ)
* Crystal "Crys" (クリスタル 「クリス」) ^ Catcher (捕える者): watashi (わたし)
* Ruby (ルビー) ^ Charmer (魅せる者): boku (ボク)
* Sapphire Odamaki (オダマキ・サファイア) ^ Conqueror (究める者): atashi (あたし)
* Emerald "Rald" (エメラルド「ラルド」) ^ Calmer (鎮める者): ore (オレ)
* Diamond "Dia" (ダイヤモンド 「ダイヤ」) ^ Empathizer (感じる者): oira (オイラ)
* Pearl (パール) ^ Determiner (志す者): ore (オレ)
* Platinum Berlitz (プラチナ・ベルリッツ) ^ Understander (知る者): watashi (私)
* Black (ブラック) ^ Dreamer (夢みる者): ore (オレ)
* White (ホワイト) ^ Dreamer (夢みる者): atashi (アタシ)
* Lack-Two (ラクツ) ^ Arrester (逮捕る者): boku (ボク)
* Whi-Two (ファイツ) ^ Liberator (解放す者): atashi (あたし)
* X (X) ^ Loner (籠る者): ore (オレ)
* Y na Gabena (Y・ナ・ガーベナ) ^ Flyer (翔ぶ者): atashi (アタシ)
* Sun (サン) ^ Saver (貯める者): orecchi (オレっち)
* Moon (ムーン) ^ Mixer (調合る者): watashi (わたし)
* Sword Tsurugi (剣創人) ^ ???: boku (ボク)
* Shieldmiria Tate (盾シルドミリア) ^ ???: atashi (あたし)
Here's a rough outline of what all these pronouns indicate:
* watashi (私): 私 watashi is one of the more formal ways to refer to oneself in the 1st person. The fact that it's written in kanji and not in hiragana or katakana increases the politeness. When it's used by women, it can be perceived as casual as well, but it's usually only used by men in formal situations.
* watashi (わたし): わたし watashi is slightly less formal than 私 watashi, due to the fact that わたし watashi is written in hiragana. It's a safe way for a woman to refer to herself in both formal and casual situations. It can be used by men in formal settings, but it comes off as somewhat stiff if men use it in casual settings. When spelled in katakana (ワタシ), it can perceived as quite rough.
* atashi (あたし): あたし atashi is a less formal, more feminine version of わたし watashi. It has a "girly" and "cutesy" tone to it. The fact that it's spelled in hiragana makes it a pretty neutral 1st person pronoun for girls.
* atashi (アタシ): アタシ atashi is a rougher version of あたし atashi , due to it being spelled in katakana. It's one of the most informal 1st person pronouns a girl can use, though it still has the same "girly" and "cutesy" tone to it as its hiragana counterpart.
* boku (ボク): ボク boku is usually used by boys but can be used by girls, particularly tomboys. When spelled in kanji (僕) or hiragana (ぼく), it can be a formal way for boys to speak, but when spelled in katakana (ボク), and when used by girls, it's pretty informal.
* ore (オレ): オレ ore is a very rough, "boyish" way to refer to oneself in the 1st person. It's rarely used by girls. It can occasionally be spelled in kanji (俺) or hiragana (おれ), but the katakana spelling (オレ) is usually preferred, because it helps emphasise the roughness of the pronoun.
* orecchi (オレっち): オレっち orecchi is a slightly less rough version of オレ ore. In this case, its first half, オレ ore, is spelled in katakana, while its second half, っち cchi, is spelled in hiragana. This pronoun is usually used by boys who want to appear tough but not quite as tough as boys who use オレ ore.
* oira (オイラ): オイラ oira is similar to オレ ore and オレっち orecchi, but it has a more "friendly" and "country bumpkin" feel to it. It's usually used by boys who want to appear tough but don't want to use オレ ore. One could consider オイラ oira to be a cross "between" ボク boku and オレ ore: more gentle than オレ ore, but more rough than ボク boku.
And, just for fun, here's a list of the many other kinds of 1st person pronouns that I've come across in various Japanese media:
* watakushi (私): 私 watakushi is one of the most polite ways of referring to oneself in the 1st person. It can be used by anyone in formal settings. It's almost always spelled in kanji (私) and rarely in hiragana (わたくし) or katakana (ワタクシ).
* atakushi (あたくし)/atakushi (アタクシ): あたくし atakushi is probably between わたし watashi and あたし atashi in terms of formality. It's often used in fiction by princess-like characters or high-born ladies. It can have a somewhat superior and "snooty" tone to it.
* atai (あたい)/atai (アタイ): あたい atai is a very rough corruption of あたし atashi, usually used by girls. It can almost be thought of as the feminine equivalent of オレ ore, as both are usually only used by people who want to sound tough or aggressive. It's usually written in katakana (アタイ).
* watasha (わたしゃ)/watasha (ワタシャ): わたしゃ watasha is a bit of a "country bumpkin" version of わたし watashi. It's gender-neutral but is usually used by girls. It can be perceived as semantically plural due to the しゃ sha, which is used to make some formal pronouns plural, like 我が waga becoming 我が社 waga-sha. It can carry a single meaning notionally, however.
* atasha (あたしゃ)/watasha (アタシャ): あたしゃ atasha is the feminine equivalent to わたしゃ watasha. Like わたしゃ watasha, あたしゃ atasha has a bit of a "country bumpkin" feel to it. Also like わたしゃ watasha, あたしゃ atasha can carry a plural meaning due to its しゃ sha, though it can still be used in a singular context as well.
* wate (わて)/wate (ワテ): わて wate is a somewhat dated Kansai dialect pronoun. It's informal and gender-neutral, and can still be seen in some, usually older, forms of Japanese media.
* ate (あて)/ate (アテ): あて ate is the feminine equivalent of わて wate. Like わて wate, it's an informal Kansei dialect pronoun, and also like わて wate, あて ate somewhat dated. It shows up in some forms of Japanese media, particularly older ones.
* wai (わい)/wai (ワイ): わい wai is another Kansai dialect pronoun, possibly a severely corrupted form of わたし watashi. It's informal and usually used by boys. Amusingly, it's also a homophone of the Japanese word for yay or yippee, ワイ wai.
* ware (我): 我 ware is a very formal 1st person pronoun that is almost "literary-style" and is usually used in writing. It can be made plural by adding 々 ware.
* waga (我が): 我が waga is an extremely formal, gender-neutral pronoun that literally means my. It can be made plural by adding 社 -sha.
* ore-sama (オレ様): オレ様 ore-sama is usually only used sarcastically or by fictional characters who are extremely arrogant. It can be accurately translated as my esteemed self. It's almost exclusively used by boys.
* jibun (自分): 自分 jibun is a neutral, semi-formal pronoun that can be used by anyone. It's also the reflexive (-self/-selves) form of all pronouns in Japanese. This is actually a very good choice for a 1st person pronoun if you're non-binary and don't want to gender yourself.
* uchi (内): 内 uchi literally means house. It has two uses. Firstly, it can be used as a gender-neutral, somewhat formal way of referring to oneself and members of one's own's group, as in our family, our class, etc. Secondly, 内 uchi is used in western dialects, particularly the Kansai dialect, usually by girls, to indicate a "girly" and "cutesy" tone. In the second case, it's usually written in hiragana (うち) or katakana (ウチ).
* ora (おら)/ora (オラ): おら ora is a corruption of オイラ oira. Like イラ oira, it has a bit of a "country bumpkin" tone to it and is usually used by boys. It's considered rougher than オイラ oira. It's usually written in katakana (オラ).
* me (me)/mii (ミー): me, or ミー mii, is from the oblique case of the 1st person pronoun in English, me, though it's used for all cases when applied in Japanese. It's often used by, usually male, characters in Japanese media who are meant to be from America or some other English-speaking country. It's quite rough and informal.
That's all for now. Thanks for reading. :)
Note: If you enjoyed this post, you might also enjoy my post on gender-neutral 3rd person pronouns in Japanese.

Giving EAH characters Pokèmon teams and my explanation of why I chose them + which I think would be their main
~Chariclo Arganthone Cupid~
Sylveon(Main): It evolves through affection
Clefa: I was going to do Clefairy since it evolves with high friendship but I felt like Cleffa just fit better for some reason
Mew: I think it just fits with her being a god
Decidueye: Its the Arrow Quill Pokémon and it fits with her whole bow & arrow thing
Banette: I wanted something ’scary’ to represent the fact she’s from Monster High, Banette is also a doll possessed by hatred and with enough love/care it will turn back into a toy which I think she could be helping it do 🤔
Silvally(Type: Full): It evolves through high friendship and it breaks free of its mask which I think is just really really cool
~Blondie Lockes~
Klefki: It holds keys! It would make it easier to break into peoples houses
Pokèdex Rotom: I just think she’d have a Rotom and it would, accidentally enter her MirrorPad or something 👍
Purrloin: They like to steal from people and I felt like that kind of matched the whole “breaking in and entering” thing
Teddiursa(Main), Stufful, & Ursaluna: Bear
~Ashlynn Ella~
Umbreon(Main): Umbreon is a night time evolution which is a reference Ashlynn’s whole “12 o’clock” thing (This could be switched out for an Espeon to match the “12 o’clock in the afternoon” thing in the episode “Ashlynn’s Fashion Frolic)
Mimikyu: It disguises itself with a cloak, kinda like the “disguise” she gets for the ball (Mimikyu is also my favourite Pokèmon so I wanted to give it to someone)
Pidove: In the og story Cinderella’s stepsisters have their eyes pecked out by pigeons
Talonflame: I just feel like she’d like Talonflame + another pigeon refrence
Trevenant: In the og story the Fairy godmother is a Hazel Tree next to her moms grave
Noctowl: It’s nocturnal, which is another refrence to the “12 o’clock” thing
~Duchess Swan~
Swanna(Main): Swan. Also for her pet swan Pirouette
Kirlia: It’s based on a ballet dancer
Ducklett: Same reason as Swanna, but its a duck
Galarian Zigzagoon: Kind of the same colour scheme(?)
Diancie: Theres no reason for this, I just couldn’t think of a 6th Pokèmon and my gf recomended it, it was supposed to be a place holder but I seriously couldn’t think of another one 😭
Gyarados: Red Gyarados is found in the Lake of Rage which is supposed to be a reference to the episode Duchess Swan’s Lake
~Lizzie Hearts~
Togedemaru(Main): I was going to give her a Shaymin to represent Shuffle (her hedgehog) but decided against it and Togedemaru was the next best thing
Vespiquen: Bee queen 🤯
Aegislash: It’s a knight which is usually associated with royalty, it being a sword could also be a “off with your head!” reference
Furfrou: The princess in that on XY episode had one, I think (Idk it’s been almost a year since I’ve wated it 😭)
Pyroar: “lions signify courage, strength, and power.” Which I think is perfect for Lizzie, they’re also the “king of the jungle”
Luvdisc: It’s just a heart and I strangely (kinda) cared about type match-ups for Lizzie so I wanted something to cancel out the fire type :3
~Briar Beauty~
Komala: It’s just always asleep 👍
Wurmple: This was just a reference to the Party Wurmple meme
Florges(Main) & Lilligant: I was trying to match the whole rose aesthetic thing
Ferrothorn & Spina: Both of these were supposed to be jokes on her pricking her finger on the spinning wheel but I’m not sure if it makes much sense
~Hopper Croakington II~
Cutiefly: Frogs eat flys so… y’know
Sobble: I think it matches his personality
Squirtle(Main): Hopper just gives me Squirtle vibes
Politoed: Literally the king of frogs
Spewpa & Riolu: Really no reason, I just love them and I think Hopper would too
~Cedar Wood~
Pikipek: It’s a woodpecker (this was funnier in my head)
Rowlet(Main) & Staraptor: Owls and Hawks represent truth and Cedar is cursed to tell the truth 🤯
Nuzleaf: It’s Pinocchio as a Pokèmon 🤔
Rattata: It matches her colour scheme
Shuppet: It’s the puppet pokèmon which is what Cedar is

I'm gonna start posting abt collecting Pokemon TCG cards a bit more because its honestly pretty fun. I realized that an app I use on my phone to check Pokémon stats and movepools (dataDex on Android, bigly recommend) has a function to let you mark Pokèmon as caught or not and I'm gonna use it to keep track of how much of the complete Pokèdex I have cards of atm.
And honestly? 34% is a lot higher than I was expecting, esp given I completely stopped buying cards as a kid around when Gen 6 came out. ive got a lottttta duplicates too so I'm hoping I'll be able to find ppl to trade cards with in the future.
Especially because I'm not really interested in either competitive side nor the Holo-card-hunting side of things - I've got a good few holos of Pokèmon I already have cards of that I'd gladly trade away for somethin like a Charmander lmao

The group was traveling right now, as they just finished completing their pokèdex of the last region. Now, they await the train to the next one.
"Wowie!!! I'm so excited!!! I can't wait to see what's await us!!!" Carmen's excited to finally travel to a new world again. Their new friend, Manolito felt the same way.
"Yeah, after dealing Cyrus, I'm ready to leave my home behind!" He grins happily.
Just a few more hours until the train comes.

Whew… After tackling a 5-star Poison type raid that has a Pawmot in it, also helped by the fact that I ate a Ultra Peanut Butter Sandwich that I made in Picnic time to increase my Tera Raid rewards, I FARMED 5 SWEET HERBA MYSTICAS!!! 💖
Not only that, I got Pawmot registered on my Pokèdex and also managed to complete the Saguaro friendship quest as well (which took me around 4-5 weeks to complete btw) and now I’m proud to say that I’ve managed to complete my SV playthrough!

When my family and I went to go see the first movie at the cinema, I was most surprised that it has a short film before it but still enjoyed it.
Pikachu’s Vacation was a very cute and charming mini movie I personally enjoyed. I really like how the voice of Ash’s PokèDex voices out some interesting facts of about how Pokémon spend their time at the special amusement park/playground for Pokémon to spend their day off as well as giving out interesting facts about their social behaviour and some information about some of the Pokémon.
Other than Donphan, who appears in Ashs Pokémon battle with that guy who dresses like a pirate in the opening of the first movie, we’re introduced to Snubbull and Marill.
The mini movie shows morals to stories about cooperation, reconciliation, team work and friendship as Pikachu and the gang deal with some bullies and all the while having fun.
After Charizard’s careless flying got him literally in a tight spot where he gets his head stuck, Pikachu, all of the Main Trio’s Pokémon and the former bullies to put aside their differences to help finally free Charizard and rebuild some of the playing equipment better than ever.
After spending the rest of day getting along and having fun, the main Pokémon and their new friends peacefully enjoy watching the sunset until their Trainers were calling for them. After a heartfelt goodbye with their new friends, Pikachu and the others meet up with their Trainers as Pikachu happily embraces Ash, who happily asked him if they had fun.
For those who want to rewatch the first movie on DVD for some nostalgia and maybe feel like something to get into the spirit of the summer, Pikachu’s Vacation is the mini movie for you.
