Pop culture's continued obsession with Sh*rl*cke H*lmes when Hercule Poirot is RIGHT there is proof of something
I'm just not sure what yet. Probably either that people hate the Belgians or women

there is nothing gayer than being the worlds finest detective, except perhaps, being his partner and most trusted adviser

actually i love it when the characters are all lying. i love it when they all have secrets and none of them trust each other. i love being given clues that solve puzzles i haven't even been presented with yet. i also love it when i get chills watching a scene without even knowing what it means, and when i do know what it means, i get even more chills. i love theorizing and thinking and solving and coming up with possibilities of where a story might be going. i love it and i will do it for free, for fun, for no real reason.
this is a mystery appreciation post!! if you appreciate mysteries and secrets and stories that slowly unravel before you, please interact!!!

reading agatha christie's autobiography out of curiosity, it's rambling and very long and there's the expected amount of eye-rolling at 'things were better back then' and 'young people these days' grumbling and old person thinking, but it's been pretty interesting
partly because it's just fascinating in general to read about a person who lived so long and during a very specific time period, having your entire childhood in the victorian era and then making it to the 1970s is a hell of a ride historically speaking, being able to say things like "yeah i remember when cars and airplanes were invented" while trying to ignore all the kiss and ac/dc and the ramones blaring in the background

Sherlock Holmes solves crimes by being autistic
Poirot solves crimes by reading people for filth
Miss Marple solves crimes by being a nosy bitch
Columbo solves crimes by being annoying
Dirk Gently solves crimes by being inconvenient
And Jonathan Creek solves crimes by making everything about his special interest and having an annoying nosy bitch friend who likes reading people for filth when it鈥檚 as inconvenient for them as possible

I just love how humanity loves our detectives. Like,,, we're always playing with the classics, writing more, we just love solving things. David Suchet is THE Poirot, but we keep rerereadapting Agatha Christie's stories, because we wanna keep playing with this concept, try to figure out what was really making the culprit tick. The sheer number of Sherlock Holmes adaptations is overwhelming!!!! Both in film and book! We made him modern! We made him modern and American!! We gave him another sibling! (Ps my favorite book adaptations are by Laurie King (old man Sherlock solves crime) and Kareem Abdul Jabbar (more focused on Mycroft)). tbh this is why I think we keep redoing Batman movies! We just can't seem to get this funky emo detective man quite right!!!
Anyways, everyone should read more mysteries bc apparently as humans we're obsessed
Also if you need book recs,,,,, uhhhh I know someone (spoiler, it's me)
