reading nook & current reads 29/feb/24

behold, the cosy reading nook ft an energy drink.

i haven't been doing well mentally for a (long) while so i only have the mental capacity and attention span for easy-to-read books. right now im able to stomach:

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

An Unsuitable Job For A Woman by P. D. James (a detective novel).

Sailing To Byzantium by W. B. Yeats (a short poetry anthology).

all three books were thrifted across the second-hand stores of Dublin.

my interest in fantasy schools/magical school books has been piqued so im currently looking for recs. i know about the Harry Potter series, the Scholomancer trilogy, book one of the Poppy Wars trilogy, and Aurian but aside from those im stumped. pls share your book recs :(

Time for book haul! We got so many pretty sprayed edges. Also, Nic completed their very first book nook (and immediately became obsessed with them as predicted!)

Things we are most excited about from this haul:

Gabe - Definitely Heavenly Tyrant! I want to see my girl Zetian kill some people! @xiranjayzhao is the only bitch who can handle me!

Meghan - Okay okay okay so: tv show bachelor x crew member is one of my favorite fanfiction au concepts, so I have high hopes for The Final Rose. Also, Meatbun is my fav danmei author and we are SO CLOSE to the end of Remnants of Filth.

Nic - Is excited to make another book nook because we got two!

Also, shout out to our mom's bestie Hyacinth Black! She just published Evolution, her first collection of poetry. We went to her launch party and it was great.

Left Behind in the Nooks and Crannies

I often dream about moving

We often leave a lot of our stuff at the old house

Sometimes I go back to those places and find something I was missing

Sometimes I go back and find nothing at all

All I want is a little house that is big enough for me to have a sewing room so that I can just. Work at my museum during the day then spend the evenings cooking and the weekends sewing. Tend to my silly little house plants. Maybe get married and be the femme housewife I’ve been yearning to be and share it all with my wife but maybe also never get married and that would be okay too. Because I would have my little house and my sewing room and my plants. And some nice birds that I befriend in my nice little tiny garden.

on my window once again;

Poem after poem it has to tell,

becoming an ocean in my hands;

Words and words it asks of me to write,

while the bottle fills up with tears -

reading nook & current reads 1/mar/24

day two of getting into a consistent reading habit ft the first snowy day in this part of Dublin in like forever??!!

im gonna post this then cosy up in my reading nook for the next four hours (i work my schedule around meal times bc i am ruled by my baser instincts). im still not doing mentally well but what better way to cope than escapism??

for a mix of easy to read, fun books ive got:
