Again, I remember the unofficial pilot trailer where Jan looked like she'll be playing a villain between Pang and Pim. Watching this though, I hope Jan won't be a rebound for Pim 🙃

I would second the people immediately panning Thai remakes of Japanese BLs and the xenophobia that comes with it. And the Thai adaptation isn’t the only version of OL to cut that line, so focusing on it for the Thai adaptation seems really disingenuous. Especially as many of these fans are neither Japanese or Thai.
It’s doing numbers on the Japanese streaming service it’s on in Japan: it tops their international selection every week and it hit the top ten over all this week.
Also EarthMix’s last series was Moonlight Chicken which aired two years ago and their other shows were pre-Twitter engagement levels. There’s literally whole conversations within the fandom of how they’re not used to doing this for a show weekly and how to improve. They’re very popular with a general audience in both Thailand and Japan, and probably Asia over all, but their overall fandom is not as large as some others and skews older and quieter. Earth and Mix tease fans at fanmeets for being introverted like them because of how quiet they are.
The show has been up against some pretty heavy pulls for content. Our Sky and Perfect 10 liners were still trending pretty heavily by the time OL premieres, vs the other big GMM25 shows have a day to let the previous trend die down before trying to overtake it, plus Week 2 was also offset by the Japan Fanday which had a bunch of other fandoms who are experienced trenders running and Week 3 they got overtaken by GOT7 dropping music, follower celebrations for Yin and Gemini and view celebrations for Pond’s Versace deal, the Sadistic MV hitting 3M (four fandoms right there), and other things.
But at week 3 they’ve actually gained numbers from weeks 1 & 2 (330k isn’t small potatoes right now) and they had less content and no other fandoms joining the trend. I think it’s too early to call OLTH a flop.
the engagement of EM series is really low, i thought that they were famous than FK so i’m not understanding why the numbers are so low…. what triggers me is that p’au is the director, i’m afraid CFC have the same treatment
So, I think there are some extenuating circumstances here. After the first episode of Ossan’s Love Thailand, a large portion of fans of the original decided to boycott the remake because the writers cut a single line they apparently felt was necessary to the plot. The line in question? “I know you love big tits, but how about a big dick instead?”
Full disclosure: I have not seen the original and cannot make comparisons either way, but I do feel that this was probably just a poor choice of series to adapt. The whole sexual harassment thing being played for laughs is a bit triggering for me personally and I feel like that might be putting some people off, which is unfortunate because the HengMo plot is great and this might be my favorite role of Earth’s ever. He really excels at comedy.
Regardless, to use the success of Ossan’s Love to make any preemptive judgments about Cat for Cash is ridiculous. Even if Ossan’s Love turns out to be a flop, P’Au is also responsible for My School President, which is probably the most popular GMMTV BL since 2gether. I think P’Au has simply been handicapped by being given the Japanese adaptations to direct. (I also think he’s being given them specifically because he is the newest director at GMMTV and no one else wants them.) Adaptions—especially cross-cultural ones—are hard and they are also frustrating for creators because it feels like you’re not getting to showcase your own work, but someone else’s.
We’re only three weeks into Ossan’s Love, though. Both viewship and trends should continue to increase the longer the show goes on. And it’s also relevant to note that Mix is actively liking posts every week telling people not to stress about trending and I think the fandom has taken that to heart and aren’t trying to artificially inflate their engagement numbers. After all, watching these shows is supposed to be fun. Not a full-time job.

GL odds and ends 29 December 2024
The end of the year kicked my ass, but I wanted to get one last one of these out for 2024! The last one before this was 10 November. If you're interested in GL older than that, check out my GL rec list through Feb 2024 and my #gl recs tag for the other odds and ends posts. New series marked with an asterisk*.
Currently airing (with thoughts up to 29 Dec):
The Fragrance You inherit 5/8 (Japanese, Friday/Saturday-ish, no official distribution but fansub on @isaksbestpillow's blog [thank you Siiri!] I have been really enjoying this show and have been writing when I have time (last post was for ep4). At its core this is a gentle show about kind people who love each other doing their best, which is always my favourite thing. Subs are on pause for the moment so you have time to catch up before the finale!
Pluto ep 11/12 (Thai, Saturdays 9:30 AM ET, YouTube) This plot continues to be absolutely wild. There's a lot of discourse around Oom this week, to which I'll just say: Setting a test to see if the people you love will hurt themselves in order to make you feel better is not loving or healthy behaviour, even if your motivations are understandable and sympathetic. Namtan is doing a great job making these twins feel like different people, and she and Film are still gorgeous together. And I have no idea what's up with the messy lesbian sides, but I'm on the side of all of them need a time out! I've been pretty dialed out of this show because it's not my thing, so I'm not that invested in any of the relationships going into the finale, but it's been a wild ride and it seems to be holding together for those who enjoy the high drama of this plot.
*Petrichor ep 5/10 (Thai, Saturdays, 10:00 AM ET, iQIYI) The procedural aspects of this show are unfortunately not well executed, but Engfa and Charlotte have fantastic chemistry. I'm also really loving seeing Na and Max again even though I am very worried about getting too attached to their characters. It's always hard for me when a show is about a police officer trying to do good work in a corrupt system because the only takeaway I can accept is that that is not possible lol but I'm enjoying seeing these two on my screen every week (except this week, because we sadly did not get a new episode today).
*Mate, 6/12 (Thai, Tuesdays, WeTV (uncut version)) This one is hard to describe. It seems to be trying to do for trauma in a GL what Love in the Air and Bed Friend did in BL--show a realistic depiction of trauma in one of their characters and have them fall in love, and be taken care of and healed that way. But that also makes it extremely hard to watch. The trauma flashbacks and trauma responses is rough. The main character is not very likeable but that's kinda the point, I'm not minding that part of it so much. There are a lot of things I like about this show, so I don't want to discourage views. Just go into this one informed, and make the decision that's right for you.
*INTP 1/? (Korean, Fridays (?), YouTube) This is the latest short series from RedQ, who produced some of my favourite GL short series including More than or equal to 75 degrees C, and To the Ex who Hated Me. No info on how long it will be or if it will be weekly, so that Fridays release schedule is a total guess. The setup of this one reminded me of Semantic Error if SangWoo realized he was attracted to JaeYoung at their first group assignment meeting.
Recently Completed:
Apple My Love 6.5 50-min eps (Thai, Oct 12-Nov 16, GagaOOLala and YouTube) I ended up feeling like this one bit off a bit more than it could chew, as much fun as I had with it, it was a wobbly landing. I was ok with the ending at the end but I spent a lot of time watching the finale uncertain about how I felt about all of it. There's a 30 min "episode 5.1" that is an important bridge between episodes 5 and 6 (and also includes a 10-min fingering scene, thank you show) that I think resulted from either poor pacing or realizing they needed to set up the episode better? It was odd but something to make sure not to skip. The show does a lot of what I love about Kongthup's latest BLs: it avoids the worst drama pitfalls and calls them out in the show itself when it uses them, and it is largely about being kind to its characters who are figuring themselves out. Warning for extremely hard to watch secondhand embarrassment in the first couple of episodes lol Kris is such a cringefail lesbian I love her. With the caveats above, if you don't mind secondhand embarrassment and want a comedy GL and are willing to be a little patient with the ending, give this one a try!
The Loyal Pin 16 65-min eps (Thai, Aug 4-Dec 1, YouTube) Anin was the bravest right through to the end. I really liked a lot of this show, but I found the pacing a bit uneven and the finale a little rough. It's hard, because I actually am happy with the way the show ended--it makes perfect sense and was where I was hoping they would get to the entire show. What I didn't like was how we got there. It seemed wild that Pin and Anin didn't at least talk about this possibility before we got there; and didn't feel like we ever resolved the disparity between the two leads, though the show was aware of it the whole time which I did like. And you may have seen the shouting about the prank in the finale, it was in really poor taste. In the end, this show was beautiful, gave a platform for promoting Thai culture (food, clothing, history), and had excellent intimacy. I really enjoyed the slow burn between Anin and Pin, and I loved that every character had and used the agency they had, but that the show was realistic about what was in and outside of their control. If you want a slow-burn and high-heat romance and are willing to be a little frustrated for the sake of the drama, and/or you really like a pigtail-pulling romantic dynamic, you should watch this show.
Red Whisper 8 10-min eps (Korea, Oct 2-Nov 11, YouTube) Honestly this show never got better after what I wrote about it a month ago about how its portrayal of bisexuality and nonmonogamy was upsetting. For the record one last time: Not all bisexuals are nonmonogamous, and entering a monogamous relationship under false pretenses and then acting like your partner is being unreasonable by not wanting an open relationship is shitty behaviour. This one is sadly not recommended.
The Nipple Talk 10 30-min eps (Taiwanese, Nov 8-22, GagaOOLala) I highly recommended the first half, and so I am so sad to say that I can't say the same for the second half of the show. I was really enjoying how much the show seemed to support a mix of monogamy and nonmonogamy, but the second half of the show leaned heavily into 'everyone wants a monogamous relationship when they meet the right person', which disappointed me. The show also tried to introduce some themes that felt very dated in terms of how they handled them (e.g. HIV) and I ended up just not really liking the Pony character as a person by the end. The lesbian relationship was super messy in a way that I did not find fun too. Mama was the best part of this show, and I hope we get more characters like them in future (better) shows!
*Soul Sisters 24 12-min eps (Chinese, iQIYI) This entire show dropped this week so I binged it in one go. The basic setup is a GL version of Meet You At the Blossom, except the gender fuckery lasts for most of the series and they don't actually ever get to kiss. I loved this little show; it is a frenetic, very silly and censored comedy, so calibrate your expectations accordingly. But it walks the line in a way that is palatable (or was for me, anyway). Without giving too much away, it is an open happy ending. The caveats for this one are that there is no wasted tape, so the pacing is rollercoaster fast, and the cuts are sometimes jarring. But it's a surprisingly beautiful show for the budget, and I really appreciated all of the ways they came up with to give these women shippy moments. Also, good lord this main character is so competent, which is a major weakness of mine. I had a great time!
*Whisper Me a Love Song 12 25-min eps (Japanese anime, Apr-27 Dec, HiDive) This started airing in April but there was a delay and the last episode didn't air until yesterday. High school lesbians in a band having embarrassing confused and misunderstood feelings all over the place (with good endings including a kiss for at least one of our couples). I appreciate that this anime is not playing with the 'are they friends who joke about wanting to touch each other's boobs or are they more' line, they outright say they want to be more than friends and then kiss. The music is good too! Recommended if you are feeling like a high school dramedy with good tunes that stays pretty light and is in the 'bubble'.
Recent One-offs, Side Couples, etc.:
My Hot Butch Roommate (actually a 2-parter) aired on bilibili 1, 2) and was subtitled by @douqi7s on YouTube (1, 2) These two are very cute, and this little short does a ton with the very tiny 5 minutes of total runtime it uses. Give the original bilibili uploads a stream so they get views, even if you watch the YT subbed version!
Fufuknows put out a new lesbian short titled The Choices of Two Lesbian Couples in Love on YouTube This was a great short (11 min) film featuring the story of two couples at different stages in their relationship, and the different choices they make about their futures. I really enjoy Fufuknows as queer short filmmakers, and I appreciate that they regularly include lesbian and wlw content in their bi-weekly (as in, every other week) fictional shorts that they produce and release. This one is recommended!
Aim's Lesbian plotline in the new Love Sick 2024 remake concluded (this was not a plotline in the 2014 version and it's one of the changes I really like and that I think works really well) Spoiler: she doesn't get a romance happy ending but her story ends with acceptance from her friends about who she is, which was lovely to watch
There was a brief of-the-week lesbian couple who wanted to marry in Spare Me Your Mercy Spoiler: their story is tragic, which is par for the course in a murder mystery
I am suspecting wlw sides in See Your Love I may end up eating these words but I was getting vibes, and so I'm putting this out in the universe now in hopes I'm right lol
There is a new Korean shorts production company on YouTube called Lovememory (Their first BL ep is out and the GL, First Love, has a trailer)
Mom Ped Sawan started airing but I don't have a source so I can't give any info or links unfortunately. If anyone knows of a subtitled source for this show, please let me know!
My Ex's Wedding came out in Thai theatres waiting for an international source for this too
Korean short film What's In my Bag was uploaded to Matchbox I haven't seen it yet but the trailer is on YouTube if anyone is curious! The film is available now for a small fee on Vimeo (runtime 12 mins).
Sastra film app YouTube channel has several short Cambodian GL series that come out weekly Honestly they are not to my taste but I don't like gatekeeping GL especially from smaller markets. I check in on these time to time and if there are any that I think are great I'll give them a shout-out
Ditto above with JPC media YouTube channel for Thai GL shorts if there are any that stand out to me I'll say so; that being said I haven't had time recently so if I've missed anything good let me know!
Starting soon:
Us the series, Thai, 18 January 2025, most likely YouTube (as this is a GMMTV show) Caveat that this date is a rumour, see comments
Fragrance of the First Flower s2, Taiwanese, 18 February 2025, GagaOOLala ok this isn't that soon but I'm just so excited we're getting this second season after all!
It is so, so nice that we have this much GL to keep track of, I can't complain! This covers a whole month of content and it was a month I was very distracted from my QL consumption so while I always welcome anyone pointing out stuff I missed, I would particularly appreciate it this round.

2025 QL Anticipations, Wishes, and Resolutions
After wrapping up my top 10 list for 2024, it's time to look ahead to next year with my most-anticipated upcoming series, series I'm planning to catch up on, and some resolutions.
Top 5 anticipated series in 2025
Us (pilot trailer) / dir. Fon Kanittha (GMMTV) / adaptation / rumored for January: Emi Thasorn had her Mark Pakin moment last year—she was literally everywhere (Last Twilight, Beauty Newbie, Wandee Goodday, The Rebound, The Trainee, and currently in Perfect 10 Liners), and that has built up my anticipation for her first leading role. I don’t actually have super high expectations for the storytelling, as this is an adaptation of an author with certain weaknesses, but I’m hoping the simplicity of the plot allows the acting to shine, and I’m enticed by the potential of two fresh GL pairings in EmiBonnie and ViewMim (if they do end up as a side couple).
Tumblr media
Khemjira (pilot trailer) / dir. Ron Patarapon + Aoftion Kittipat (Mandee Works) / adaptation / currently filming: I am not the biggest fan of Domundi/Mandee projects, but this feels a little different in scope and flavor, with the supernatural horror elements and a largely rural setting. Also, I can’t lie, I'm excited for the combo of KengNamping and TleFirstone. I have a weird little fascination with the entire [vague handwaving] of DMD The Friendship and TleFirstone are my third-gen blorbos; I suffered through the entirety of Secret Love just to see if they kissed good (they did). Also, with the musical talent here, if we don’t at least get a banger OST out of this show I’m going to be so mad.
Knock Out (pilot trailer) / dir. Tee Bundit (Deehup/WeTV) / adaptation / recently did fitting: Boxing/martial arts settings are gonna be everywhere in 2025 (there are at least two more QLs that I can think of), but the combination of Deehup production quality, WeTV je ne sais quoi, and a promising new acting pair in GunNice is just delicious, especially after seeing that pilot trailer. Tee Bundit excels in not only drawing out excellent physical intimacy but also making show settings feel lived-in, and the action scenes in Jack & Joker were pretty decent, so I'm excited to see how he brings a boxing gym with ties to the mafia underworld to life.
Love You Teacher (pilot trailer) / dir. Dome Jarupat (Parbdee/GMMTV) / original / script being written: Boy, was this ever the most willfully misinterpreted pilot trailer from the entire GMMTV25 event. This post beautifully sums up most of my thoughts on that matter, but I want to add that after two episodes of watching PerthSanta elevate the milquetoast Perfect 10 Liners with impeccable chemistry, my excitement for them in these specific roles has grown exponentially. Give me the sunshine/grumpy dynamics with a poignant exploration of devotion and care! And we know p'Dome will bring the poignancy.
Girl Rules (pilot trailer) / dir. Jojo Tichakorn (Moongdoo/GMMTV) / original script / most likely late 2025?: p'Jojo is bringing the gospel of messy gays to the sapphics this year, and I will be seated front-row for it. I already know that Milk Pansa playing a stone cold casanova bitch is going to be A Problem for me, and I am on my knees begging for some honest-to-god hatesex or spite-fucking, just give me a truckload of whatever they have going on:
Tumblr media
(I didn't include series like Cranium, Ticket to Heaven, and Love of Silom, which have either already been slated for 2026 or could go either way. Or series that simply don't have enough info, like 8 Hours. Ggurhggh I'm hoping the last two I listed above make the cut...)
5 series to catch up on
Pluto: I watched the first ep and definitely wanted to continue, but the series ended up on the back burner due to time. I also thought it would be a good one to binge due to the melodrama of the storyline. From the gifsets I've seen, I'm in for some good fucking food.
Century of Love: Honestly, I'm kind of looking forward to DaouOffroad's next project a little more (I think they are going to thrive in the bodyguard dynamic), but I know I'll want to watch something lakorn-ish at some point, and CoL will scratch that itch.
Reverse 4 You: This seemed to fly under the radar in fandom circles, but the concept sounded interesting (it has speculative elements like time manipulation and precognition) and by all accounts the acting was really solid. I also have Apple My Love (Kongthup + Ormsin lead = winning combo in my world) on the list but this one is just a little more compelling so it will take precedence.
Tumblr media
Blueming + Where Your Eyes Linger (movie version probably): After losing my mind over LFCT, I promised myself to finally finish off the Hwang Daseul cinematic universe this year. 🫡
The On1y One: I prefer to binge Taiwanese series, so it's nice to have this in the back pocket for a slow weekend or whatever. See Your Love is making me remember how much the pacing of TWBLs drives me nuts sometimes, so we'll see when I'm in the mood again...
2025 resolutions
Prioritize GL! This might be obvious from the series I mentioned above lol. I did such a bad job of this last year, but luckily GL seems to be a growing slice of the pie. The things I'm looking forward to: new pairings, messier dynamics (GIRL RULES), and hopefully more original scripts (GIRL RULES!!!!) as well. Pipe dream: CAN I GET ONE (1) NON-FEMME SAPPHIC CHARACTER PLEASE...
Watch a series outside of the big four markets (Thailand, Japan, Korea, Taiwan). There are a couple of completed Filipino series on my watch list, so it's just about making time for it.
Write more consistently about QL. I did participate in Tumblr discussions this year, albeit spottily, and I'd like to do it more! I tend to put my thoughts in tags rather than adding onto a reblog or commenting on a post, so let's see if I can break that habit and contribute more directly.

Pluto is having it's special ep today, while VV has it's last ep
so THK could have an ep0 the day they have Kidnap last ep maybe
tho Jojo didn't have a special ep for neither NLMG nor OF so mayne we won't have one for THK either
hope not and we have one but we'll see
still Pluto has one on the same day as the last ep of the show it will replace which is worth noting
VV being a rewatch means that it usually doesn’t count 🫣 (I think). Usually, GMMTV will not put a special episode on the same day of a current finale episode (cause if the current show is a success they have the finale fanmeet gathering!)
But you are correct in saying that not all series have special episode/episode 0. I think its partly related to the series itself and whether the director(s)/production team involved want to do one?
P’Aof series tend to get specials and reaction video of watching the trailer while P’Jojo series tend not to have them.
Pluto has a reaction video (of watching the trailer) and special episode…I am not sure whether Kidnap has reaction video but they did have the special. Can’t remember about 23:5….,
I’m still hoping 🤞we will get both a reaction video and special episode for The Heart Killers!!!!

I absolutely ADORE the fact that May doesn't care about the huge bouquet her ex gave her, and instead takes the time to carefully put Oon's rose, which is small, and slightly crushed, in a beautiful vase, somewhere she goes everyday, first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening, and cherishes it like the most precious gift ! Because it is...And Oon will someday realize it, that money doesn't matter and that May loves everything she gives her because it's her !

EP#0042 (EP.5) : A New Energy for Nong Makham : The Spark of Hope Across Dimensions - The Mission of Destiny by Sand : The Epic Series of the Interdimensional Food Truck
"Sometimes, hope is not something we wait for others to offer us, but something we must create ourselves from the little things around us."
"When the power within us is unlocked through faith and determination, it can transform the world in ways we never imagined."
"Small changes can become the starting point of the greatest moments in life, if we believe and take action."
"Hope isn't always the light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes, it's the light we choose to ignite ourselves amidst the surrounding darkness."
Welcome to the epic series of the Interdimensional Food Truck, featuring "The Mission of Destiny by Sand." This is Episode 5, titled: "A New Energy for Nong Makham: The Spark of Hope Across Dimensions."
Let the story unfold.
After Nong Makham received the golden "Emblem of the Alliance" necklace, a mysterious energy began to surge through her body. It felt as though it was awakening a hidden power deep within her.
Her body started to glow with a soft golden radiance—warm and gentle, yet imbued with immense, indescribable energy.
Excitedly, Nong Makham shouted, "Look at this, everyone! I’m glowing like a superhero! Could I be the new 'Makham Girl' of this universe?!"
Nong Suai quickly teased, "We don’t mind if you’re a hero, but if you blow up the kitchen, who are we going to blame?"
Nong Meetang chimed in with laughter, "If the kitchen explodes, we wouldn’t care either, but let me ride your light beam—I might get to float up, too!"
Nong Meeboon chuckled softly but spoke seriously, "Enough, everyone. Nong Makham seems to be the key to this mission now."
Meanwhile, Foodie the truck exclaimed with equal excitement, "Wait! If Nong Makham's energy can activate my solar-powered kitchen, then I’m officially Super Foodie!"
Sand smiled and said, "Alright, everyone, get ready. We’re about to enter a kitchen no one has ever seen before."
They arrived at the vast courtyard in front of a pitch-black tower. A strange atmosphere enveloped the area, as if another dimension was whispering all around them.
Foodie came to a halt with a rumbling sound, full of apprehension. "Sand, I’ve never felt goosebumps like this before!"
Nong Suai immediately joked, "Foodie, are you scared of ghosts? How can a truck have goosebumps?"
Foodie retorted, "If I had goosebumps, they’d be standing all the way to Pluto by now!"
They all entered a giant hall inside the tower. In the center of the room, something was waiting for them.
As Nong Makham’s light illuminated the space, glowing rings on the floor began to activate. An automated voice announced:
“Solar-powered kitchen system now operational.”**
Suddenly, the entire room transformed. The floor shifted, revealing a futuristic, interdimensional kitchen more advanced than anyone could imagine.
Foodie’s eyes widened. "Wow! This isn’t just a kitchen—it’s a solar-powered laboratory! Sand, I’m starting to feel proud of myself!"
Nong Meedee encouraged the team, "Focus, everyone. We need to prepare the First Light Dish successfully."
Sand took out the Crystal of Light, the heart of their mission. Its golden glow spread throughout the kitchen as Nong Makham stepped forward, her light merging seamlessly with the crystal’s energy.
"This dish will be the first spark of hope," Sand declared with determination. "We’ll create it with the combined power of everyone here."
The preparation began.
The "Eternal Dewdrops" were gently poured onto black rice in a hydro-flux pan. The evaporating droplets shimmered like tiny stars in the sky.
Nong Meetang jokingly shouted, "Careful! If this rice explodes, I’m not cleaning the kitchen!"
The "Crystal of Light" was ground in a solar-powered plasma mill. Nong Makham carefully controlled the process with her radiant energy.
"Watch closely, everyone. This power is free—but only once a day!" she quipped.
The "Dawn Blossom" was extracted using high-tech equipment, its fragrance filling the room like cherished memories from the past.
Nong Meeboon spoke emotionally, "This scent—it feels like a beautiful memory from long ago."
As they worked together, the golden light from the dish began to grow brighter and brighter.
Sand turned to the group. "We’re almost there. Just a little more!"
Foodie jumped with joy. "Yes! I really am Super Foodie!"
When the First Light Dish was completed, a dazzling golden glow radiated like a small sun. The light spread throughout the city, dispelling the darkness and bringing life and hope back to the people.
Nong Makham shouted with pride, "Look, everyone! We did it!"
Nong Suai smiled widely. "This is the true power of our unity."
Sand declared firmly, "This isn’t just a dish—it’s the light of hope for everyone."
Laughter, happiness, and vitality returned to the people.
Foodie closed with a laugh, "Sand, are you ready for the next interdimensional adventure?"
Nong Makham smiled and replied, "I’m always ready!"
And thus began a new chapter in their legendary journey—a tale of adventures that brought light to every dimension, powered by endless hope.
Stay tuned for the next episode of "The Mission of Destiny by Sand."
