Some sad news to share - It was announced on Monday that Buichi Terasawa, best known as the creator of Space Adventure Cobra, has passed away. He worked as a staff member of Osamu Tezuka, and debuted Cobra in Shonen Jump in 1976, which became popular in Japan as well as overseas in France, due to the character of Cobra being heavily inspired by French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo. An early pioneer of digital comic work, Terasawa not only was the first mangaka to make a manga entirely on a computer, but was also the first mangaka to make a digital interactive manga called Takeru. In 1998, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor that, sadly, after radiation therapy and multiple surgeries, lead to paralysis in the left side of his body. Despite this, he continued to work as a writer and director of adaptations of his work. He passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 68. Rest in peace to an icon of not only shounen, but digital manga!
