It's the first quest line i actually dislike actually. Gives whole lot of telling and now showing dai vibe we could literally do without. (What was said w inquisitor Harding or Varric could say, literally no reason to go out of your way to meet inquisitor)

Idk how to feel about the whole solas mythal thing tbh. Like i do not think that's something new at all just hmm yeah I guess (have to digest all that)

Im getting they are giving him more layers and everything and i get it i get it. It's just hmmm curious where this leads

All older character that make cameo literally feel like in marvel movies. Like wink wink nudge nudge see what we did there?? Which tbh i don't mind? Just don't think too hard about it

Also to be absolutely clear the less we know about what's going on in south the better because then we can headcanon shit ya know? Nothing contradicts itself really and everyone is happy until proven wrong (Hawke and Warden are killing darkspawn while making out sloppy style as we speak)

Also so i don't just vaguely complain i really love the choice between saving the two cities from dragons. The way it's so abrupt and all. AMAZING especially if you play either as crow or shadow dragon absolutely delicious angst

I also want Taash to marry me (me, not Rook, they gonna marry Davrin.. already co-parenting griffon with him so yeah!)

God it's so delicious when everyone is like poor Neve how bad she must feel after what happened to her city while Kalais (Rook) is there like crying and self doubt (no shade on Neve at all btw! She's fucking amazing and I love she gets to be pissed at Rook)

Overall i really like characterization of everyone in main group and how they feel together. Like it's honestly lot more like group who's saving world but becoming very close friends vibes and it really works!

They could've killed Varric. Or idk made him more incapacitated or leave. Because he literally serves zero purpose there. I love Varric a lot like A LOT but like he's just literally there just for fanservice. If they killed him in first mission it would've worked better (i would definitely be pissed but if he dies now it'll just feel cheap but guess then Solas would hardly remain redeemable in writers eyes... Tho would make things definitely more interesting with possible redemption)

arcane season 2 introduction analysis incoming:

does anyone else find it really cool, but also very nerve-wracking, that the season 2 arcane introduction is referencing a bunch of well known tragic plays/musicals? we all know riot/fortiche isn’t one to put unnecessary details in, every single thing is either symbolic, a parallel or foreshadowing - especially in the introductions. so, could these chosen plays/performances foreshadow how the rest of the story could go?

i know that the caitlyn/macbeth poster parallels have been circulating a lot recently, and i think it provides a really good idea into how caitlyn’s arc might go. 

the events of act one positioned caitlyn in a perfect place to follow the storyline of macbeth. her current state (losing her mother, the trauma from jinx, etc) has made her predisposed to violence, much like macbeth. we can clearly see that in the caitvi betrayal scene, when she hits vi in the gut with a rifle, as well as in the fight before that, where she has no qualms with potentially killing innocents for the ‘greater good’. she was also thrust into a position of high power where she will be easily manipulated by ambessa. 

similar to this, macbeth is a story of a man thrust into a high position of power and unable to keep the blood off his hands, and he and his wife eventually go mad because of it. I think ambessa fits the role of lady macbeth here, and she has the potential to goad caitlyn (macbeth) into violent acts and atrocities while keeping the blood and blame off her hands. through caitlyn, ambessa now has significant influence and power over piltover and the fight with zaun. how will caitlyn, who is barely more than a pawn now, cope with this? macbeth slowly went insane in his attempt to maintain power - i fear for how caitlyn will fare. 

macbeth is a tragedy, by the way. 

i haven’t properly analysed the rest, but i think it’s interesting to know that the shot of jinx holding the flag is a reference to les mis (also a tragedy, as SPOILER ALERT all the characters die in their fight for freedom and fairness). the line is literally 'oh the misery'. if jinx rallies zaun to fight against piltover, is she leading them into a massacre?  

les mis is a tragedy. 

the shots of mel and ambessa lounging on the couch is a reference to julius caesar. it is a play of betrayal and caesar is betrayed by one of their companions. et tu, brute? brutus joins a conspiracy to assassinate caesar and prevent him from becoming a tyrant. does ambessa become a tyrant/bloodthirsty leader with her newfound power? will mel join the black rose and betray her mother in order to stop piltover’s destruction?

julius caesar is a tragedy.

one last thing. in all of these works, the main character of the story dies by the end.

so, safe to say, i am very nervous about what the introduction is foreshadowing. i have a feeling an important character is going to die.

arcane will be a tragedy. 

(viktor and the mask is also a reference to phantom of the opera but, as much as i love that musical, i haven’t analysed his shots yet so i haven’t included it)

Dealer's Choice Ask - share one or more fact headcanon or similar about a character that you want to share but no one's asked the question for!

i often see people talk about xigbar [of course im talking about xigbar] like he's a bitter misanthrope, someone who's angry all the time and doesn't like people, and i've never really understood that. obviously there are times in the series when he gets angry, and he says mean things when he is angry, but the vast majority of the time he delivers all his lines with the same unshakeable smug grin.

i realized, though, that im pretty sure people think he's an angry misanthrope because hes an asshole. and folks don't really consider that people can be assholes without personally disliking the people they're assholes to!

like...larxene, for example, [who to be 100% clear i love and support,] strikes me as someone who's an asshole because she personally dislikes everyone around her and is constantly irritated because of it. she treats roxas like shit because she's offended to be burdened with babysitting duty. she's hotheaded, snaps at people, insults them.

even so—she's horribly mean to sora in CoM, and i dont get the vibe at all that she personally dislikes him. i think shes mean to him because, she can be? because she has no heart, no conscience to tell her to treat him any differently, and because she gets personal enjoyment out of being mean to him.

i think thats similar to why xigbar is an asshole. xigbar doesn't hate the people he teases and prods and provokes and says wacky mysterious shit to. in my mind, xigbar's been alive a really long time, seen a lot of shit, is pretty jaded, doesn't really care whether people like him or not. in most situations, he holds all the information and has the upper hand, and enjoys lording that over people and watching them squirm. it's less about his personal feelings towards individuals and more about getting to feel in control and above other people.

he ribs roxas a lot in Days, but thats really what it reads to me as: ribbing. teasing, poking fun. xigbar doesnt dislike roxas—in fact i think he likes roxas (whether or not he actually cares for or wants what's best for roxas is a different discussion)—xigbar's just. a dick! he's mean not in a hateful angry way, but in an over-familiar way, like your second-least-favorite uncle who's never forgotten that time you tripped and fell flat on your face when you were six. [fuck you, uncle mark.] [salem blake may or may not have an uncle mark.]

being over-familiar, reveling in knowing more than everyone else, wanting to feel like he's in control and above others—to me, all of that maps perfectly onto someone who has seen a lot of death and lost a lot of people, all in pursuit of a goal he doesn't entirely understand, and who is no longer willing to try connecting sincerely with people. or no longer capable of it.

my plural!raph (rottmnt) headcanons

Alters who have shown up in the show:

Raph - he/him. host. You know him. Is aware that he has different "versions" of himself but doesnt know he's a system/what a system is. "Yeah I just get in weird moods or mindsets sometimes haha sorry about that". Wasn't always host, formed when he and his brothers started acting more like a "team" rather than " just brothers", when they started taking their lou jitsu roleplay more seriously and identifying with it. His self image is slightly more human adjacent, not a lot but sometimes when he looks at himself in the mirror its a little jarring.

"Mind raph" - he/him. Mutated turtle, looks like the body, more comfortable with his body. Doesnt quite realise he's seperate from raph. Mr helpful. Sooths and gives advice. He and raph are quite connected, he is the more "responsible and logical" one, while raph feels more like a kid and has more heightened emotions. Likes to cook.

"Feral" raph - it/its. doesnt have a name it associates with itself. animalistic turtle/non mutated turtle. Holds isolation trauma, both from general "im a mutant" isolation and a specific event from when they were very young, where they got seperated from their family for a few days. Lashes out at anything it is scared of or doesnt understand. Constantly feels cornered.

"Mean/harsh raph" - they/them. Very angry and distrustful - only trusts themself to do things right. Annoyed at everyone else's incompetence and how they don't seem to care enough, and is sick of having to carry everything themself. Feels as if this is the only way to protect both themselves and others. Holds a lot of anger and resentment towards splinter and his failures as a father and everyone else for openly loving him. After the show ends, doesn't like that Leo is now "leader"

Others:

Red - she/they. little kid, ~5-9. Old host, doesnt front a lot anymore, only during more quiet, low stress times, like meals or movie nights. She's half rat and half turtle, because she's very family oriented. Skittish around april and very wary of anyone who isnt immediate family. Clingy. Likes action figures and is very good with badic electronics, like figuring out how to plug things into the tv and stuff. Very happy she can now reach things that are high up.

Lee jitsu - they/she. 12-13ish. Human. Was originally a self insert character from Red daydreaming about if she was in the lou jitsu cinematic universe, and if lou jitsu became her master/mentor. High energy, loves action, The Biggest Lou Jitsu Fan. Isnt really aware of the rest of the system.

About Angel and spiders

Did you know that some jumping spiders eat other spiders? Not during mating ( though that one raises a question whether or not Angel's preference of bottoming can be analogous to female spiders, aka "dance and give me gifts or I'll eat you"). Portia spiders hunt other spiders, often by pretending to be caught and trashing in the webs to lure the web owner out. Oh, they also follow laser dots like cats do, and have really fast-acting venom because they don't restrain their prey with webs

Okay, retyping: I knew about the venom being used to paralyze prey since they don’t rely on webs to capture them, instead using more of their jumping. I did NOT know about them eating other spiders! And the way you described the portia reminds me of a damsel in distress rouse, which is something I can definitely see Angel doing 😂

Also the laser dot this is so interesting! And now I need to think of a situation with him and Husk where that could come out.

Some other jumping spider (and general spider) things I’ve found too

-Jumping spiders sleep by hanging on a single thread

-Jumping spiders can jump up to 40x their body length, and attach silk before jumping or a surface to act as a precaution and/or break

-Spiders don’t have vocal cords, but instead produce sounds by interacting/vibrating other objects

-Spiders can regenerate legs (often lost in molting), pedipalps (pincher looking things), mouthpieces, and silk spinners

-Fur holds air, allowing them to have an additional temporary air supply when underwater

-Can essentially use silk as a parachute, “ballooning”

-Grip walls using hair on feet, which have grip strength up to over a 100x body weight

-Sensitive to infrared radiation and low frequency (80-400 hz) sounds

New Age AU (Age Line-up)

Hello guys, I decided that I would put the guys into a (loose) comprehensive list of ages. This is all relative to whenever Nightmare first became 13 again. This is set 7 years after the coronation and Dream's banishment. (More Explanations below the cut)

So I'll start in the order of when these goobers met Night.

Ccino! He met Nightmare when he was born, and is 7 years older than him when they were children. Now, thanks to the gap in time (in which Nightmare appeared somewhere between 20-30) they have 14 years apart in age. Ccino is 27 at the start of the main plot.

Killer! He met Nightmare one year into his rule, almost on the dot. He is 25 when the main plot begins. (They met when Killer was 19. Killer was the correct age to be put up for death, a legal adult, while his partner in crime was too young and therefore was still imprisoned.)

Dust! He met Nightmare during his second year of rule. He is 30 when the main plot begins. (Dust was about 25 when Nightmare released him from imprisonment to help him learn about the black market.) Dust is the oldest of the Knights. Yes he gets teased ruthlessly about it by the others.

Horror! He also met Nightmare during the second year of his rule (though later in the year than Dust). He is 28 when the main plot begins. (He met Night when he was about 23, almost old enough to take over his family's farm, but his brother could handle it, so he chose to accept Night's offer and teach him to improve farms across the kingdom.)

Cross! Cross met Nightmare 5 years into his rule, and is 20 when the main plot begins. (His home kingdom collapsed when he was 16, he spent 2 years wandering with Ink, then met Dream. Dream asked him to spy on Night, and he was caught, so he met Night when he was just 18 and spent 2 years with him.) He's young, and he always kinda felt out of place, but the others adopted him in really easily, and the bond between a family is something Cross won't risk losing, so he's ultra loyal.

Error! Error met Nightmare 6 years into his rule, and is 15 when the main plot begins. (He ran away when he was 14 when Geno left, and was almost immediately scooped up by Nightmare within the same year. Hence why Fresh couldn't find him.) Error has very little time to acclimate to Nightmare's adult habits before he's slammed with the Young Night information (therefore he didn't have as many weird apprehensions)

The others and their connections to the others start... here!

Dream! Dream has been aging normally, so he is now 20! (He left the kingdom harboring him at age 15 with Blue, and when he returns to finally face Nightmare he's about 21.)

Blue! Met Dream during his second year in exile, and is now 21. (He left with Dream when he was 16.)

Ink! He has a crazy backstory, but he met Dream when he was 17, and brought Cross w/ him and stayed when Dream was 18. Start of the plot? He's 24! (Ink my beloved, he's crazy, and might be lying about his age, but for the sake of this, he's generally 24.)

Fresh! Age 22 at the start of the story. (He's only 7 when Error is born, and 21 when Error runs away.)

Geno! Age 32 when the plot begins! He leaves when he's about 30 to move and work with Reaper. (I'm retconning some things here, to say that the news of Error disappearing took over a year or two to finally reach Geno's ears. There are a few years worth of conflict between Dream and Night that need to pad out before Geno enters the narrative, so we're gonna say Fresh took a LONG time searching for Error before he finally told Reno the truth.)

Reaper! He's actually so so old. Like. Dusty musty old guy who acts/looks young <3. No canon age for him because he's so outside the range :)

Like a lot of folks, I’ve noticed that the trailers for Terminus often depict Grey and Maya together, and one of the only voicelines we’ve heard from Maya thus far is of her reviving Grey and sounding rather cheerful about it.

It might be just a coincidence, but I think Grey and Maya are each going to play a key role in the other’s character arcs in BO6. Because what doesn’t seem like just a coincidence to me is that both Maya and Grey’s main motivations for this story are about reuniting with someone that they love.

Maya wants to find her brother (presumably because she cares about him but there could be another reason) and Grey wants to rescue Maxis (we haven’t been explicitly told yet this is her main motivation for BO6 but we know in MWZ they tried to get Maxis back and it just seems unlikely to me that Grey would care more about killing Richtofen than she would about rescuing Sam. But again, I could be wrong).

I might also be reading too much into this but I also think their character designs might hint at a potential contrast somewhere?

Maya’s character design has a lot of warmer, brighter colors like red, white, and khaki. Meanwhile Grey has a lot of darker, cooler colors like black. And more black. With some bits of blue and maybe gray in there (which is a big difference compared to her lighter and brighter colored outfit in CW).

My current theory for what this all might mean is this: Grey and Maya’s individual arcs might start out in a similar place, both searching for their lost loved one and maybe even helping each other out in their search. But their stories will eventually end up with two very different outcomes- perhaps Maya either finds her brother or loses him forever and is able to accept the loss, and Grey (we already know from MWZ that Requiem are unsuccessful in truly rescuing Sam from the DA) is unable to fully accept losing Sam and will struggle to carry on without her.

Regardless I’m really interested to see how each of their stories will play out in BO6!

I know I haven't said much about it, but legitimately, "running away" was one of the most pivotal life decisions I've ever made. Probably THE first major life decision I've made, and also the best. If you have an opportunity to go, leave. Get out of there. If you are not safe at home, emotionally, physically, whatever, and you're able to leave, do it. It's going to suck such major ass for a while because you're going to have to deal with the scars they've left on you, but I wholeheartedly, full-throatedly, with-my-chest promise you that it is going to be better. Unpopular opinion: I really think Inanimate Insanity should've ended off on ep 17 rather than tacking on its final episode, S2E18.

Also I'm open to discussion but please no hate, I'm sharing an opinion here not meant to outright provoke people, I just want to share my opinions and feelings, and I'll respect everyone else's ideas on it as well./gen/nm

I mean don't get me wrong, S2E18 really went to wrap up any loose ends. The mysterious life force placed into Mephone4, and to give everyone their happy ending, but to be fair before the release of II S2E18, I LOVED the idea of everything being left up to interpretation on S2E17. The emotional impact and hype everyone went through on their more recent episodes 16 and 17 REALLY hit it off, and truthfully not all stories need to end happy. When II 18 dropped, it was mid to say the least. Unnecessary deaths (looking at you MePad) and the not-that-engaging final fight really just left people with the feeling of "what the fuck was that". Doesn't live up to NEARLY the hype of the previous episodes. And for II17 to stand as an end to the series, putting a stop to Cobs plan.. Mephone4 losing everything he cared about, Cobs reaching out to him.. REAAALLY could've left fans plenty of opportunity to wonder "would Mephone persevere?" "What truly is part of Mephone4 that sets him apart?" "Whats Cobs going to do now?" "Is everyone permanently gone or are they coming back??". For the end of ep17 to just.. end in that blank silence and leave everyone to wonder, while sorting through their own feelings seems it would've been way more engaging than the end they set out for us tbh. And don't get me started on the weird revival thing?? That race thing?? Like come on, there's hardly any suspense to that. Ooo don't touch the red line or you're dead forever. None of those losses at the line nearly compare to the execution of the previous deaths in the season when it came to MephoneX's suspenseful knocking everyone down one by one. Because then you're on the edge of your seat like "what's going to happen to the characters I love most??" Like just LOOK at what happened when we lost Lightbulb, and that emotion Paintbrush went through!! Compared to "damn they ain't running fast so they're gone *shrug*" like come on. Mayyybe sure it demonstrates the bonds between the characters a bit but ep18 was just borderline "ooo cliche villain fight scene" like Mephone got SUPER damaged in the first hit and then.. nothing else??? Kept getting punched and took no more damage. I swear if they needed to fill in time for the others to revive it could've been better than that. That fight scene was outright boring. Cobs blew up into popcorn, so he's dead, MePad died even though he could've just teleported both Mephone4 and himself, and ep18 really just went to showcase all the ships and whatnot. Like okay cool bad guy dead unnecessary deaths and now here's a bunch of ships to make yall happy! Like wh-

I want to be a tattoo artist. I want to be better at art. How did you get so good? I know to practice, and I have been for nearly 9 years. But you're so GOOD at drawing anthro characters. Literally breathtaking.

i have a confession, I never drawn anthro characters untill the creation of this blog. So this is all my first rodeo LMAO so idk if I have the credentials to even say anything abt anthro characters.

But when I used to do art before COTL, I can say that most of my improvement was from observing what other artists (especially those I like) and then trying to implement the little details I like into my own things.

Of course anatomy, composition, perspectives, etc is equally as important but learning how to implement the traits of the artists you look up to is also something that helps with improvement. Also, just looking/consuming hella media stuff also helps with broadening your own little art library. Once you kind of get this down then just copy and paste whatever knowledge you gained and apply it to any of your future art endeavors (in my case, half hazard anthro characters)

But again, this is what worked for me best and there’s many ways someone can approach improving. Just take it one step at a time.

Spoilers for Arcane season 2 Episodes 1-6 ahead, tread with caution:

Also keep in mind everything I rant about here are just my current opinions and concerns, this could change after the next three episodes' release.

Ok.... first of all, never has a show made me sob as hysterically as this one has. The end of almost every episode has had me in tears so intense that I'm sitting there hiccuping oh my god. Like when Vi and Vander hugged at the end of Episode 5, or when the 'Remember Me' flashback happened GOD

The art and animation is as STUNNING as usual holy shit. This show is so beautiful and the visuals are addicting. It's all such good inspiration for fanart and just future artworks in general, it's honestly an artist's paradise and I genuinely can't believe something like this exists.

Anyway, initial gushing and ranting aside, here are some of my... gripes? concerns? about Season 2 for now.

(Please keep in mind that these opinions are not set in stone since the season isn't fully released yet but I still want to rant about them and get it all out of my system.)

Overall the season has been really really good, I am really enjoying it. But I can't help but feel SO confused. Maybe it's the fact that it seems a lot more focused on League of Legends storylines and references this time (I have no knowledge of League lore), but so many of the different plots throughout the episodes have left me so confuzzled.

For example, in Episode 6, it feels like so much happened that was so out of pocket. When Vi runs into Caitlyn, even though Cait was the one who literally left Vi to rot in a hole to continue her quest to kill Jinx, she immediately agrees to stabbing Ambessa in the back and just seems to forget entirely about what she's been doing for the past 2 and a half episodes?? It just felt like her mentorship with Ambessa, her 'relationship' with Maddie, and her obsessive search for Jinx were kind of tossed aside in favor of her and Vi making up.

Don't get me wrong, I love to see them together again, but I'm so confused as to WHY they're back together already. Not to mention Cait's reaction to seeing Jinx again is so tame in comparison to how much she seemed to despise her an episode ago.

Another Episode 6 example: Jayce... What the fuck?

I know we'll probably get context and exposition in the next few episodes as to where he's been and why he's like this, but still, it feels so strange that he went from sacrificing everything to save Viktor's life in Episode 1 and 2 only to show up and kill him in Episode 6. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU JAYCE PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW WHY YOU ARE MURDERING YOUR POOR WET CAT BOYFRIEND

My other concern with season 2 so far, is that the pacing/storylines and plot feel really fast? it kind of feels like so many plots were crammed into season 2 that they now only last a few episodes until they finish or are forgotten? Like Isha was only there for 4-5 episodes until she died, Vander/Warwick's existence was built up across 3 episodes only for him to die really soon after he was revealed? Vi's breakup era only lasted for a few minutes in a montage? Viktor's 'Jesus' era had maybe 10 minutes of screentime? the list goes on.

I enjoyed all of these plots and storylines a LOT but I wish we got just a bit more time to appreciate them instead of getting emotional whiplash every episode. And that comes from someone who LOVES emotional whiplash.

To be fair though, none of the 'deaths' I'm talking about are necessarily confirmed yet since they're just implied until the next 3 episodes, So I do hope that at least Vander/Warwick is still alive because we barely got to dive deeper into the emotions the sisters must have experienced after seeing him again.

Anyway, Season 2 is honestly still so good it's a solid 7.5/10 for me so far. It has its flaws but it feels unfair to focus on them too much considering the season hasn't even finished its release yet. So yeah I'm really enjoying myself over here and am frothing at the mouth for the next few episodes to come out. Until then I will be curled up in the corner drawing infinite amounts of Arcane fanart to sate my endless thirst for more of this show.
