But on the other hand Red Tornado straight up hosts a parent-teacher conference where their respective legal guardians all show up, barring Batman who’s in traffic so Nightwing fills in instead because Robin’s dad does not know he’s a vigilante which is objectively hilarious

the more interested you become in a wide variety of things (and people), the more interesting you become. there is nothing more tedious than a person with narrow taste and an arrogant attitude about anything that falls outside of it. good taste means finding the beauty and interest and wonder everywhere.

hey everyone - i know there’s a lot going on in the world right now, a lot of causes that need support and visibility now more than ever.

i’d like to take an opportunity to highlight a cause that’s very literally close to home for me: i live very, very close to springfield, ohio. the haitian community there has always needed help and support but now, with white supremacist rhetoric and bold faced lies being circulated nationally, with threats of violence and heightened ignorance being more common than ever, they need it perhaps more than they ever have.

there has been a lot of hate since trump and his little bootlicker attack dog jd vance have started this shit, but there’s also been an outpouring of love and community outreach in the weeks since springfield was thrust into the worst kind of spotlight.

the hatian community support and help center has been invaluable in helping hatian refugees get what they need to start a new life here. they are headed by a team of haitian immigrants that are personally familiar with what their fellow immigrants need. they have been instrumental in keeping their community from falling through the cracks.

The Hazbin Hotel fandom’s issue with accepting aromanticism and asexuality

Now that it is officially Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week, I want to talk about this!

I find that, as an aroace myself, I am constantly grasping at good representation and coming up empty— it usually ends up in one of two ways.

One: the character is portrayed as emotionless, cold, and robotic in nature. It’s the question aromantic and/or asexual people are often asked: “Are you heartless?” The answer is no, of course, but general media makes it out to be the opposite.

Or two: Their lack of attraction is seen as something to “fix” because they “haven’t found the right one yet”, and they end up with a partner as a “happy ending”.

It frustrates me greatly because of how little people actually see aromanticism or asexuality as a true part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

So when I watched Hazbin Hotel, and I found out about Alastor being aroace, I was over the moon. I was on cloud nine. I also saw how his voice actor has looked up the term as an attempt to learn about aroaces, which makes me OVERJOYED?? Amir is truly a blessing, and I love that he’s proud to embody a character that’s part of our community. It’s so beautiful to finally have a proper character, a fan favorite at that, who just so happens to be aroace— and that’s another thing I love about this.

It’s never explicitly stated in the show (though it is stated in interviews), but it’s rather clear when you’re watching, isn’t it? Alastor’s aversion to any sort of sexual advancement, coupled with Rosie’s blatant “I know you’re an ace in the hole” comment sort of spell out his asexuality pretty clearly, as well as what side of the spectrum he falls upon. In addition, his Valentine’s day card was strictly platonic, which caters to his aromantic side. It feels so validating to finally be represented, to finally have a character in media who shares the same lack of interest in romance and sex as I do.

When I entered the fandom to look for more content, I kind of expected to see the same respect for Alastor’s orientation there too. But that… wasn’t the case? I am fully aware that aromanticism and asexuality are both spectrums— of course, aromantic and/or asexual people can enter those kinds of relationships. I’m not denying that and they belong in the community as much as anyone else on the spectrum.

But, the more I see the same line again and again and again, the more it feels like an excuse to just ship what you want.

Usually I don’t mind shipping? I’m often a firm believer in people shipping what they like as long as it’s harmless and they don’t go crazy over it. I also know for a fact that Viv doesn’t have a problem with people shipping her characters. They are fictional, after all.

But in this case, people are ignoring the very thing that makes Alastor a part of the aroace community! People are ignoring his lack of romantic or sexual attraction!

Is this not the same as changing a gay character’s orientation to suit a straight ship? If not, how so? I’m told that we are a part of this community, so why aren’t we being treated like it? Why is it so hard to accept the people on the end of the spectrum who aren’t interested?

Something I’ve been noticing throughout my life is that society has not exactly progressed very much on the idea of accepting asexual or aromantic identities. Maybe we have, a little, since the old days— but hell, people in “the old days”, which in truth wasn’t very long ago, believed that asexuality was a medical condition to be “fixed” by taking the right medication or having sex. That’s a pretty low bar to clear. And on the romance side, you’re seen as a “late bloomer” or “boring” if you don’t express interest. These days, being friends with someone is treated like a gateway to them possibly becoming a lover. Not getting married, not going on dates, not wanting a partner— it’s all treated like a crime when it’s not.

Maybe I’m selfish, or sensitive, or I’m butthurt over nothing, or I’m making it all about me. Maybe I’m gatekeeping or whatever the term is. But please, please, please, I just want an aroace character like me who simply is not interested in sex or romance.

And I want fandom to respect that. I admire the creations that fans make— the art, the animatics, the writing and the character analysis. And I want people to keep creating because creation is indeed a beautiful thing.

But I really would like people to treat aroace identities like they’re important. Like it’s more than just a spectrum to get wiggle room to wrangle in another ship.

I have, actually! Though unfortunately they've rejected my application since there wasn't enough traction to warrant a plushie 💦 I can't remember but I think it was after Day 2 or Day 3 last year?

That's when I decided I'll make the merch myself, since people keep asking, plus it'd be great financial support for me to continue making my games.

I'm determined to make them as quality as possible hence my process involving original designs and prototypes, so hang tight!

as the show starts back up again and we hopefully do end up going down the road of Buddie canon, I just want to issue everyone a reminder that Buck was nowhere near the first lgbtq rep on the show

we have had Hen and Karen and Michael from DAY ONE! that's THREE black lgbtq characters. and then we have Josh too!! we shouldn't just call this the gay firefighter show because of Buck and Eddie but because of the ensemble of amazing characters who give us lgbtq rep!! so why are we ignoring everyone else all the time?

I've been a Buddie shipper since day one but I absolutely hate that people who treat it like it's the Buck and Eddie show - it's an ensemble cast of AMAZING and well thought out and developed characters who get pushed to the side for these two men who, let's face it, may never end up becoming canon.

so can we PLEASE all cool our jets a little about Buck and Eddie and give some well deserved love and appreciation to the other characters??

i really didn’t ever think i’d have to say something like this, but i’ve never shied away from my boundaries or feelings on here, so i’m not going to do so now.

this celebration is for me. for me to be excited about the stories i’ve written. for me to acknowledge my progress and growth. for me to show love to those who have supported me and continue to. if that sounds selfish to you, then you are not quite appreciating enough what it means to have all of this free content at your fingertips.

this celebration is NOT a means for me to pump out grade-A content. i am not a machine that answers to your beck and calls, especially given that i’m simultaneously working on projects i’m hoping to make grade-A at the same time (which? side bar, my series? they take weeks, months even, not because i’m neglecting them, but because i want to make sure i’m giving the people who support me the best work i can).

if you didn’t want the short, fun, maybe less involved ideas i offered for the celebration, why even submit? and then go as far to complain about the result after?

The Vesperia stageplay, Justice of Light and Shadow, has been subbed and is almost complete! @kanasmusings and I are in the final stages of touchups and revisions, but otherwise, it's almost ready to be released! Kana has worked on this play for months as the main subber, and I've helped with proofreading, quality checking and light translation, as this is Kana's first bout into Vesperia's world. This play's subs were requested by @manekineko-89, and @suguelya kindly provided the raw footage for the subs to be overlaid on.

We ask that anyone who watches this does not reupload this anywhere. Please only use the link provided by Kana when the play is released, even if sharing. Subbing content, even if unreleased in the west, is still a gray area, and we'd like to continue releasing various Vesperia content without any trouble.

At this time, the talk show (two parts/videos) is also being subbed, though we can't give a timeframe for the release just yet (that's already in the works, but the main play was of course the first priority!). The interviews (two videos) and behind the scenes production of the play are also in consideration for being subbed.

We hope you'll enjoy the play once it's fully complete! Just as a note, this play is a bit of a mesh between the 360 and PS3/DE versions and is also a condensed retelling of the story. Patty is not in this play, and many other side characters had to be cut, as well as all of arc 3. Despite that, it's an amazing play and I hope you guys will enjoy it!

Its fine if you see Kanji as straight or use she/her for Naoto. I appreciate how Kanji's storyline is about accepting that its okay to not have masculine hobbies and how queerness and toxic masculinity are linked. I appreciate how rooted in a Japanese subtext Naoto's story is and how your going to have to understand it from a different perspective of a different life. Both of these characters I like and find interesting.

But I swear, if another Youtuber or other says in some variation "Thinking Naoto or Kanji's stories are queer means your MISSING THE POINT OF THE THEMES OF TRUTH IN P4" or that as they are in canon their arcs are perfect and not needing any sort of change and are not at all at least a little dated or problematic" I am going to start screeching.
