Just thinking about Sydney reading that article in her apartment and seeing no mention of herself and only a picture of Carmy in the article must have caused so much frustration and hurt for her. Also thinking about how she told Carmy in season one, she felt she could stand out working at the Beef and I'm sure that belief still stood for The Bear.

Adding another layer of Carmy assuming she said its hard to keep up with him because he has more experience just affirms the invisibility black women face in the industry they work in. That statement was so dismissive and I know probably meant to reassure her, but was the wrong thing to say. I'm not sure Carmy understands the significance of that. He doesn't have to worry about fading into the background not just because of his skill but because he's a white dude.

This is significant and incredibly traumatic to be in those spaces as a black woman. Carmy doing all that he is doing is creating an unsafe space for his partner, Sydney.

Sydney is in her own private hell honestly. She's experiencing the same shit she's experienced at every other fine dining place she's worked at and it sucks. I think a lot of her turmoil is yes, because she doesn't want to leave Carmy and The Bear, but I feel the majority is because she's back in the same bullshit she ran from. So, not only is Carmy in his own loop of Trauma, so is Sydney.

I don't know all the writers of the show or if it's a diverse writing room because I don't pay attention to stuff like that, so I'm not sure they can capture the nuances of such a topic. I hope they don't ignore it because it's right there, and significant to the black female viewers.

VERY IMPORTANT a dam in the Netherlands, the weerdsluis lock, is directly on a migratory path for spawning fish. They have a worker stationed there to open the door for the fish, but they can take a while to open it. So to keep the fish from getting preyed on by birds they installed a doorbell. Only, the fish don't have hands to ring the doorbell. If you go to their website, they have a LIVE CAMERA AND A DOORBELL that YOU RING FOR THE FISH when they're waiting, and then the dam worker opens the door for them! I can't express how obsessed I am with this. look at this shit. oh my god.

Genuinely, what happened to “feminism is for everyone”?

That’s the feminism I grew up with: encouraging people to recognize that fighting sexism and restrictive gender roles helps folks of every gender. We’d push back on the idea that feminists hate men, pointing to inclusive feminist literature and how many men are feminists.

Now, there are so many people insisting that the solution to patriarchy is to openly hate and ostracize men no matter what. Why? What is the benefit? It’s certainly not effective in fighting oppressive structures to exclude half the population from your cause on the basis of immutable traits. It may feel cathartic to say horrible things about men and try to punish them for your frustrations with patriarchy. But the only actual effect I see is the increasing right-wing radicalization of young men, who are being told that the left hates them for the way they were born and presented with an abundance of proof that it’s true.

Why are we going back to treating men and women as different species? It doesn’t fix things to say “well women are the good gender and men are the bad one” this time. If you sincerely want to dismantle sexism, you’re going to have to unpack and let go of all sex and gender essentialism—even that which considers women inherently pure and men inherently immoral.

i'm begging you guys to start pirating shit from streaming platforms. there are so many websites where you can stream that shit for free, here's a quick HOW TO:

1) Search for: watch TITLE OF WORK free online

2) Scroll to the bottom of results. Click any of the "Complaint" links

3) You will be taken to a long list of links that were removed for copyright infringement. Use the 'find' function to search for the name of the show/movie you were originally searching for. You will get something like this (specifics removed because if you love an illegal streaming site you don't post its url on social media)

4) each of these links is to a website where you can stream shit for free. go to the individual websites and search for your show/movie. you might have to copy-paste a few before you find exactly what you're looking, but the whole process only takes a minute. the speed/quality is usually the same as on netflix/whatever, and they even have subtitles! (make sure to use an adblocker though, these sites are funded by annoying popups)

In conclusion, if you do this often enough you will start recognizing the most dependable websites, and you can just bookmark those instead. (note: this is completely separate from torrenting, which is also a beautiful thing but requires different software and a vpn)

you can also download the media in question (look for a "download" button built into the video window, or use a browser extension such as Video DownloadHelper.)
