I’ve said it before but so much of the current salary structure and cba was designed like no one thought about how it would effect things after the first season and now we’re seeing them try to fix it which fine but like at least be transparent about it

Was listening to 32 Thoughts and a really interesting point about salary negotiations was brought up. If you take a pay cut and sign a “team friendly deal”, that can be seen as screwing other guys in the league over. Because it’s used against them by teams in their negotiations. So, when agents are negotiating deals for their players, there’s not only the component of what is good for the individual player vs the team but also what’s good for the nhlpa, which is a union. Friedman brought up that he actually will sometimes get that same thing brought up when he’s negotiating deals as a broadcaster. Other people in the industry have asked him not to compromise and take lesser deals because that also compresses their potential wages.

idk i just hope the tournament organizers see this (and tbh probably inevitably rome also) as a real wakeup call as to how scheduling goes and how they need to give them a goddamn break. i honestly doubt it because i do not think any organizers really give a shit about the actual players (otherwise this would probably not have happened tbh) but i hope they get it together
#this is unprecedented how many injuries we have like genuinely is this not terrifying to atp??#i think i heard rumour of dubai or someone being given a 1000 level tournament. NO!!! WE DONT NEED ANOTHER ONE!!!#and i know that no city will want to give up their tournament#but somethings gotta give we cant be putting these ppl through the fucking ringer every goddamn week#i think if tennis had a more unified business model (aka novak’s players union or something)#and players had a base salary (the way literally every other sport does) rather than only getting money if you play and win#then players would be allowed to have more breaks#and not rely on pushing themselves because they have to pay coaches equipment flights doctors etc etc#idk. i think about the logistics and business and economic end of tennis A Lot#also more standardized courts/balls etc is needed but i really dont know enough about the physical aspect as much#like obv i like having three different surfaces i think its unique and fun and the adjustment period for the players is not the worst thing#but even still theres so much variation between courts of the same surface even at the same event#and balls are different too i think#idk everything in tennis is so fragmented and disconnected#like atp and wta and then each tournament has vastly different organizations so theres so many competiting stakeholders#again. novaks players union is sorely needed#whoops i wrote an essay in the tags about sports business again whateverrrrr#tennis

I think I'm figuring out what is feeling so ominous about Blue Lock's current arc right now. I definitely feel like Blue Lock is going dark in the sense that everything happening is being televised and used for profit, the money-hungry dudes are talking in the background about god knows what, Kunigami is a test subject and we don't even really know what that means, and the kids all keep looking at social media and looking at the comments being made about them online, and their ranks are literally dependent upon the salaries being offered to them.
Everyone is all worried about the characters spiraling which, yes that's a thing that's happening. But the more I observe the details of these chapters the more I realize that lots of characters are feeling offput by their new environment that is monetizing their wins and losses and exposing them to the public's opinion of them as well.
On an interpersonal level I think the relationship Isagi and Rin have is the main conflict, Isagi's dynamic with Kaiser is something like a side show that drives the situation with Rin forward since they're similar in nature. On a big plot-level I think the issue that is stirring is something much larger scale having to do with the fact that these teenagers are slowly losing their self worth over salary offers and internet opinions.
Just overall as soon as the NEL arc started the SHIFT in the energy of the story changed so quickly. Isagi was immediately separated from everyone he found comfort in from his earlier days at Blue Lock, isolating and setting him up for a lonely environment on top of what was about to be an already stressful and competitive environment. We started seeing "tweets" and internet comments about the kids and the kids taking that to determine how valuable they are. And then the salary thing...fucking crazy.
It's giving the same energy as the hero rankings from my hero academia which, not good. The major difference is that in Blue Lock it'll likely be upheld as a bad thing lol.

Like these people were always lurking in the background but haven't really been that important, and I just breezed past this interaction several times because I wasn't interested when I came across it. But upon re-reading everything I'm seeing that yeah this is Not Good lol.
I think what feels so Ick (intentionally, I don't think this will go unaddressed) is that they've all been turned into products. And that's not a good thing.

Knight is also making the most money (most likely) so you need her producing, versus a younger play who is closer to the average or minimum salary
If she was smart she would be open to renegotiating

in fairness the reason for stating that the draft should be abolished is players' labour rights which is kind of fair however there are ways to improve players' rights that also are like. good for the long-term health of the league lmao
