I’ve said it before but so much of the current salary structure and cba was designed like no one thought about how it would effect things after the first season and now we’re seeing them try to fix it which fine but like at least be transparent about it
#having those six three year contracts that don’t have Maximums but do have minimums#and having a certain number of players allowed on minimum salary but only for the first year and now it’s unlimited#amount of players who can be on minimum salary but also there’s a salary average that has to be reached#and also this years first three round picks have to be signed to certain minimums#it’s like. damn you guys made this way too complicated in order to ensure only specific players got paid#and now we’re in a situation where teams made rosters in year one and then are realizing there’s good players coming out of this years draft#that they want to add and have to move things around for#and a bunch of year one players who didn’t get three year deals basically get screwed because of it#it’s also going to get worse next year tbh#but then should level out once those initial three year contracts are done

Was listening to 32 Thoughts and a really interesting point about salary negotiations was brought up. If you take a pay cut and sign a “team friendly deal”, that can be seen as screwing other guys in the league over. Because it’s used against them by teams in their negotiations. So, when agents are negotiating deals for their players, there’s not only the component of what is good for the individual player vs the team but also what’s good for the nhlpa, which is a union. Friedman brought up that he actually will sometimes get that same thing brought up when he’s negotiating deals as a broadcaster. Other people in the industry have asked him not to compromise and take lesser deals because that also compresses their potential wages.

idk i just hope the tournament organizers see this (and tbh probably inevitably rome also) as a real wakeup call as to how scheduling goes and how they need to give them a goddamn break. i honestly doubt it because i do not think any organizers really give a shit about the actual players (otherwise this would probably not have happened tbh) but i hope they get it together
#this is unprecedented how many injuries we have like genuinely is this not terrifying to atp??#i think i heard rumour of dubai or someone being given a 1000 level tournament. NO!!! WE DONT NEED ANOTHER ONE!!!#and i know that no city will want to give up their tournament#but somethings gotta give we cant be putting these ppl through the fucking ringer every goddamn week#i think if tennis had a more unified business model (aka novak’s players union or something)#and players had a base salary (the way literally every other sport does) rather than only getting money if you play and win#then players would be allowed to have more breaks#and not rely on pushing themselves because they have to pay coaches equipment flights doctors etc etc#idk. i think about the logistics and business and economic end of tennis A Lot#also more standardized courts/balls etc is needed but i really dont know enough about the physical aspect as much#like obv i like having three different surfaces i think its unique and fun and the adjustment period for the players is not the worst thing#but even still theres so much variation between courts of the same surface even at the same event#and balls are different too i think#idk everything in tennis is so fragmented and disconnected#like atp and wta and then each tournament has vastly different organizations so theres so many competiting stakeholders#again. novaks players union is sorely needed#whoops i wrote an essay in the tags about sports business again whateverrrrr#tennis

I think I'm figuring out what is feeling so ominous about Blue Lock's current arc right now. I definitely feel like Blue Lock is going dark in the sense that everything happening is being televised and used for profit, the money-hungry dudes are talking in the background about god knows what, Kunigami is a test subject and we don't even really know what that means, and the kids all keep looking at social media and looking at the comments being made about them online, and their ranks are literally dependent upon the salaries being offered to them.
Everyone is all worried about the characters spiraling which, yes that's a thing that's happening. But the more I observe the details of these chapters the more I realize that lots of characters are feeling offput by their new environment that is monetizing their wins and losses and exposing them to the public's opinion of them as well.
On an interpersonal level I think the relationship Isagi and Rin have is the main conflict, Isagi's dynamic with Kaiser is something like a side show that drives the situation with Rin forward since they're similar in nature. On a big plot-level I think the issue that is stirring is something much larger scale having to do with the fact that these teenagers are slowly losing their self worth over salary offers and internet opinions.
Just overall as soon as the NEL arc started the SHIFT in the energy of the story changed so quickly. Isagi was immediately separated from everyone he found comfort in from his earlier days at Blue Lock, isolating and setting him up for a lonely environment on top of what was about to be an already stressful and competitive environment. We started seeing "tweets" and internet comments about the kids and the kids taking that to determine how valuable they are. And then the salary thing...fucking crazy.
It's giving the same energy as the hero rankings from my hero academia which, not good. The major difference is that in Blue Lock it'll likely be upheld as a bad thing lol.
Like these people were always lurking in the background but haven't really been that important, and I just breezed past this interaction several times because I wasn't interested when I came across it. But upon re-reading everything I'm seeing that yeah this is Not Good lol.
I think what feels so Ick (intentionally, I don't think this will go unaddressed) is that they've all been turned into products. And that's not a good thing.
#I feel like my brain just clicked on something I should have caught earlier#but I've been re-reading the NEL arc and I'm noticing how often phone screens are shown showing “tweets” or whatever#that are being made about the soccer players#lots of them good comments and lots of them bad#and then the salary ranking was something I always felt was really fucking crazy but now that I really pause and think about it#it's definitely crazy and we're not supposed to ignore the fact that that's a crazy way to rank teenagers' worth as soccer players#holy shit#blue lock#blue lock meta#yeah gives me hero ranking from mha vibes#but blue lock is actually like setting it up to be something BAD

i've been considering resuming job hunting again but i think I'm still, like, traumatized from what i went through in 2021 lmao
#i keep getting in this cycle of 'well my current job lets me do pretty much whatever i want bc they trust me to get shit done'#(which honestly is really nice bc i am neither a team player nor a leader and i like being left alone lmao)#and 'my current job is otherwise unfulfilling in every way possible also it's for an awful company I'm ethically opposed to and i want out'#and my salary is garbage#esp as someone with 12 years of experience#and they dont even do cost of living adjustments#in theory they will give you a raise if you go above and beyond but i did that for a year and just got a thank you#which i dont need your fucking gratitude i need more money#but god i just cant do interviews anymore#i used to be such a good BSer in interviews#and now i just... cant lmao#so many places are all into the 'be your authentic self' shit these days#my authentic self is not employable lmao#and then i think about pursuing my creative passions for income and I'm like nooo i dont wanna do that either#bc that will make me hate what i love#i am so protective of my hobbies just being hobbies#idk whatever!!!!#t: wench.txt

these guys are on the same team and they're sabotaging each other like this I'm gonna lose it. my man you sink or swim together you benefit no matter who scores the point
#bolo liveblogs#watch as a player from the opposing team takes the ball while kaiser and isagi squabble#I get that the salaries being publicly determined encourages them all to hog the spotlight but you can show your value as a player without#scoring every goal. and how do you think it makes you look to prospective teams if you can't stop sabotaging your allies?

Seeing this on Twitter is making me laugh because at the highest level competitive overwatch pro players are considering retiring after Stockholm this year because the meta is so fucking painful 💀
#it’s not goats don’t get me wrong but without owl tier salaries there’s no real incentive to suffer through it unless you’re trying to#build a career as a streamer using your pro play to get exposure#but man it’s baddddd for hitscan players in particular at the pro level#I hope blizzard fixes this shit <- my mantra for years at this point#just put me on the dev balance team. please. I will work for scraps and fix your game#blizzard I will fix it for you. put me in coach#c talks

Knight is also making the most money (most likely) so you need her producing, versus a younger play who is closer to the average or minimum salary
If she was smart she would be open to renegotiating
#it’s also tough bc I understand the point of the fa sognings#like these players have been making minimum wage or less playing for club#and they finally want to make a respectable salary esp for a 30 something#so they negotiate this agreement#but it’s all groupthink#and yes league sustainability is in the right place#but now you are putting the players just starting off mostly in the same place as you were

few good things abt the tennis payscale but one enjoyable thing is that theres no contracts
#well there r contracts for like sponsors n shit but thats secret ish and no one cares LOL#seeing hockey fans bicker about contracts actually makes me wither and die#you havent lived in online sportsworld until youve say through endless discourse abt pay#i do not CARE what people get paid i make the active choice to ignore money at all sporting events#i understand thst the sports are formatted very differently and thus each payscale makes sense. but i dont care for either sport#i only care abt contracts if it means my guys are gonna leave my team#the only thing that i would change abt the tennis format aside from equal pay for each tour#is a minimum base salary so the lower ranked players dont get fucked over#tennis#hockey#<- in a sense

in fairness the reason for stating that the draft should be abolished is players' labour rights which is kind of fair however there are ways to improve players' rights that also are like. good for the long-term health of the league lmao
#for ex: looser salary cap situation.#lower UFA age.#stricter trade clauses/a push for the increase of things like no-trade lists#REMOVING THE ABILITY OF TEAMS THAT HAVE ABUSED PLAYERS TO DRAFT HIGH. (OR AT ALL.)
