My most recent hour of gameplay in ff7 rebirth has just been me walking through Shinra manor completing puzzles and screaming "where's Vincent?"

finished rebirth & i'll maybe write more about it some other time but for now i'll just say it was ok
#❛ ooc  (  it’s hard to stand on both feet  )#tbd //#ff7 rebirth spoilers //#i found it fun but underwhelming is probably my overall take#i like how they fleshed out characters/dynamics/lore#to the extent i never really liked tifa growing up because she felt kinda. mean and passive aggressive imo#but in remake it feels like they portrayed her how she was initially intended to come across#similarly to barret even#if they just took that same anger from the original and let her have some as a treat i think it'd have worked better though#im not a fan of dyne hating barret when he never blamed him in the og#or of cait sith not getting his pre death monologue alluding to his sentience#aerith's death shocked me because i didn't expect it but then?? is she even actually dead or is cloud just nuts#cloud's regression also felt a bit wonky and less believable but it's maybe just that he looks cringe talking like sephiroth#im glad tifa and cloud actually communicated to some extent in this game but im still waiting to see how he handles talking to zack#overall it's made me appreciate the vibes of the og more#i think there's still potential for the story but i wish they'd focus more on including elements of the og that fit the ff7 vibe#and on making characters playable..... than giving us infinite chadley tasks#the world is so big but it feels like it could've been a lot smaller and a lot more authentic#silverlining was cloud and zack gettin to fight together.. my boys#i'll still replay it but probably replay the og and remake first#and maybe 16#im also. still not fond of whatever they did to nanaki

finally wrapped up ff7 rebirth. all in all an absolutely phenomenal game - it is at its heart a beautiful and fulfilling love letter to fans of the original. with the exception of a few nitpicks (mainly some of the minigames just not landing for me, but that's more so personal preference rather than straight criticism. unless you're fort condor. fuck fort condor) made me tear up on more than a few occasions though i do have some minor complaints about how they handled the story, especially toward the climax.
spoilers -
aerith's death doesn't have nearly as much emotional weight as it did in the original and you would think this would've been their golden opportunity to expand on the 1997 version with our unbounded modern technology and the overall improved story-writing our generation can pride itself on but it's instead very watered down (hah) and while i do understand what they're trying to get at (cloud's exceedingly broken mind subconsciously trying to block out what happened) i just feel like they could've still gone with that idea while maintaining the weight of the original scene. i was fully expecting to bawl and instead i just came out of it very confused and a little disoriented because there was just TOO much going on.

starting to watch the alternate endings, and I love that Kazuya's ending is him yeeting Jin off a cliff. As if that has worked as a solution for literally anyone in this damnedforsaken family even once in the history of Mishima fathers yeeting their sons off cliffs

The recent Genesis-themed wallpaper has actually made me VERY confident in his chances of potentially appearing later in FS as a playable character. Not saying it's definitely going to happen, but I'm even more convinced now than I was before.
If it was going to happen? This is just me theorizing, but you remember how Sephgeal was looking for FOUR missing soldiers, right? Three were dead, and "Alissa" was the fourth, and ironically the only one Angeal didn't seem to recognize. I think if Genesis were to be implemented into the story, it would be through the reveal that HE'S the fourth soldier and is lost somewhere in the woods. Only for Sephiroth and Angeal to turn to each other all "but he's the fourth...who is Alissa???" and that kicks off THAT conflict lol
Again, I'm not saying he'll be there. Who even knows? I'd be sad if he wasn't. But if he were, I think there's a very easy way they could bring him into the plot.

Note
I can see ASGZC playing Smash Bros and Genesis getting fucking *pissed* that Sephiroth is a playable character.
Sephiroth: Zack, for the last time, I do not know Mario personally. He's a video game character. I cannot possibly get his autograph for you.
Zack: Does that mean you're not real? Are you dead!?
Sephiroth: Only on the inside.
*Meanwhile Angeal and Cloud are holding Genesis down*
Genesis: INJUSTICE. PROFANITY. SLANDER. SACRILEGE.

Things I want to see in Rebirth and its follow-up:
Vincent talking about Lucrecia
Lucrecia Crescent
Lucrecia talking about Vincent
Lucrecia talking about Sephiroth
Vincent and Lucrecia together
Vincent and Lucrecia slowly learning how to trust, feel safe and love again
VinLu being confirmed (again, because people didn’t believe it in Dirge)
Lucrecia as a party member and playable character
Lucrecia using magic and Jenova genes to fight
Vincent helping her to learn how to use magic and Jenova genes to fight
Vincent (and also probably Lucrecia) getting revenge on H*jo
Lucrecia reuniting with Sephiroth (bonus points if it leads him to a redemption arc)
Also, not in the game, but I think that if Square were to make plushies of Vincent and Lucrecia, that would be adorable

Maybe it isn't but my thirst sure is
Hey HEY what the fuck do you mean Sephiroth is fully properly playable in the demo that was released to select gaming journalists and streamers, and his gameplay is "suspiciously fleshed out"
HEY SQUARE ENIX look me in the eyes and tell me what are you cooking that required you to put THIS much effort into him. Surely the Nibelheim flashback is not long enough to justify this!!!!!!!!!
