I would love to be in Layton’s head when he made that decision, what exactly pushed him to break a promise like that. I know the events of the game, the lead up, but what he was thinking ultimately made him go back on his nature is something I’m so curious about
I'm just leaving these two sequences here, do with them what you will while I go cry in the corner

God he is so tooth-achingly cute 🥰
With his name, there’s always the option of something simple like Animal Prince to follow Clark’s theme. Then of course all sorts of mouse and rat names, like Rat King popped into my head.
Blue Cheese keeps running through my head too lmfao
I FIXED LUKE'S COSTUME. FINALLY
(Hi @jesterday00 last time I tag you)
I wanted to make him look like he had a bit more gentlemanly influence to him, but still not stray too far from the animal theme/his own style
I think I somewhat achieved that! Now I can rest easy (and so can Hershel, knowing Luke is not running around in that previous thing anymore)
Still taking name suggestions though. I have no idea

Luke superhero costume part 2/2
Not sure about the colors and maybe I'll make the cape a hoodie but I got the basics of what I want down at least
I think Luke would be a bit of a trickster hero. And he's already associated with mice enough for me to warrant it being his costume
I don't know what his name should be though
(Hi @jesterday00 wasn't sure if you wanted to be tagged again)

the beginning of luke wanting to be a gentleman like layton...
(below is analysis that's barely related to the above scene, but which it reminded me of... more on luke and being a gentleman)
i suppose it's obvious, but it never occurred to me just how much luke's behavior (later in the timeline, i should specify) is in emulation of that gentlemanly ideal. in general, luke tries to place himself on the same level of maturity as layton, despite being a child, which contributes to his willingness to throw himself into danger when accompanying layton: if luke sees himself as a gentleman, he must not see himself as a child needing protection, nevermind a child layton personally wants to protect. of course, as we know from this game, he already had that strangely-mature-for-his-age attitude before he even thought about how a gentleman behaves, so i wouldn't blame the concept of gentlemanly behavior entirely for this, but it does certainly contribute. combine this all with the way luke proceeds to idolize layton (which in itself started on account of luke knowing layton the myth before layton the man), and luke ends up being gung-ho with all sorts of distressing situations, if it means somehow helping the esteemed professor. this is all certainly a mutation of what it means to be a gentleman, though, as layton - the very arbiter of this ideal - time and time again tries to keep luke out of danger. it is all well and good to be polite, helpful, and grounded, as layton wishes luke to be (just as he is himself), but there is a point when one begins to sacrifice oneself and ignore one's own emotional needs...
for at the end of the day, luke is still a child! he expects himself to be poised and polite and positively gentlemanly, and to some extent layton expects the same of him (though, as stated before, not quite in the same self-endangering way luke does), but this puts immense pressure to endure hardship on someone who is otherwise just a little kid. even if he only realizes it shortly before he and layton part ways in unwound future, luke needs the parental care layton provides, especially because he, as a child, would reasonably be scared and wanting of comfort in the dangerous situations he finds himself in when with layton: he contextualizes this need, and perhaps suppresses it, by labelling himself as the professor's "apprentice", thereby expressing his desire to constantly be by layton's side as a matter of being able to help layton, and not a matter of layton being able to help him feel safe.
and this is what makes luke's goodbye to layton so impactful! he finally lets himself cry big ugly tears, wailing and sobbing and hugging layton tight like he never wants to let go... because, truly, he loves layton, as layton makes him feel safe and happy and good, and is heartbroken by having to leave him. luke isn't a gentleman yet. he's just a kid, and he's letting himself be just a kid, and he's going to cry his eyes out like one. it's incredibly cathartic... and you know luke can only let himself break down like this because layton is so gentle and so warm: even if layton advises that it's ungentlemanly to make a scene, he does nothing to criticize luke for bawling his eyes out and denying himself being a gentleman, nothing to make him feel bad for feeling. instead layton hugs luke, lets him cry it out, and even lets himself shed a tear for the boy he's loved so dearly... luke can finally release the weight of being so steadfast for all this time, of being with the professor through thick and thin despite every danger, of pushing down the scared child inside for the sake of helping the professor: now he just wants, no, needs layton to soothe him, to dry his tears, to hold him with the gentle tightness of the father layton had long seen himself to be for luke... and that's just what layton does. and they're both all the happier for letting themselves simply love each other.

Imagine we’re playing NWOS for the first time and there’s a strangely familiar character that keeps reappearing in the background. You don’t talk to him during the bulk of the story but you can chat with him later on and his name is fucking Theodore.
Anyway if Des appears in NWOS I will be fucking SICK I MISS HIM

Now that I'm done with Clark it's time for Luke’s costume (both the very cheap one he attempts at first and the second Hershel-approved actual one) You all get a break from the angst because I want him to be as eye-blindingly adorable as possible

I JUST NOTICED SOMETHING
So I’ve been listening to Layton music of course and the stuff from Eternal Diva came up. On Spotify, one bit is just vocals from Janice called Umi no Uta. Now, it could just be a simulated echo, but there’s two voices there. Jesus Christ I wonder if all of her vocals are like that
#that's so cool. but also that implies that whenever melina sings janice is singing along with her#and ngl the thought of that makes me want to cry. they still get to sing together#their love for music and their love for eachother are endlessly intertwined#<- PREV YES EXACTLYYYY#jesterreblogs#THE GIRLFRIENDS EVER
