Hello, author! Can I request Wise/ Licaon with reader-Vidyadhara (from honkai start real)? Reader shows love in an unusual way. Their dragon tail wags happily when Wise /Lycaon is around. Reader protects them even if reader are weaker. They give out ancient jewels and can also purr softly. Dragons are hard to trust, but the reader lets them touch their tail. The reader's actions scream "I LOVE YOU. I AM DEVOTED TO YOU FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE."
If you don't like the idea, then feel free to skip it. Anyway, I wish you all the best~
â â A DRAGON'S WAY OF AFFECTION
~ WISE AND VON LYCAON WITH (GN) VIDYADHARA! READER.
SUMMARY: AU - You're a Vidyadhara from the Xianzhou Loufu, travelling across the galaxy and visiting numerous planets just for the fun of it. One planet in particular is your absolute favorite to visit: Eridu-47. | You narrowly escape Thanatos with Wise (in Eous' body). Lycaon is surprised to see you at midnight.
cw/tw: mentions of (minor) injuries on Wise's part, other than that it's all fluff.
A/N: Crossover prompt! How exciting!! We need more playable Vidyadhara characters on hsr...they're such an interesting species. :0 Very sorry for taking so long with your request, and very sorry for not putting some of the actions you've said. :') Thank you for your request and for the kind words! Hope you enjoy reading this.
Breathing. All you could hear was your intense breathing.
You didn't know how long you were running for, but that didn't matter. What matters is getting out of this hollow ASAP. The only problem being that you were being chased by a highly dangerous ethereal.
Â
You recall the moment Wise warned you about the beast. A very fast ethereal capable of slashing its prey in secondsâputting your guard down even for a single second could lead to your demise.
Â
The two of you were terrified, but compared to the small bangboo tightly locked in your arms, deep downâyou were the most terrified.
Never have you dealt with this kind of situation before. Sure, Yaoshi's abominations are tough to deal with, but they were more annoying than anything.
Â
This? This was out of your league. You've only fought Ethereals once or twice since you've been here, so you basically had little experience on how to fight them.
Â
But as you were overthinking about the situation, you heard Wise talking from Eous' little body.
Â
"There it is! It's the exit!" It's a small hand/arm pointed forward.Â
Â
You looked towards the direction it was pointing at; sure enough, the exit of the hollow was in front of you.
You picked up the pace, hoping that Thanatos would give up chasing you. Out of pure instinct, you threw the poor bangboo towards the exit before you could make it there yourself. Unbeknownst to you, Thanatos had created a scar on the back of your neck the second you got out of the hollow.
Â
You trip and fall to the ground beneath you; your body slides against the pavement, creating some minor scratches on your body. But it was nothing you couldn't handle.
You tightly closed your eyes, now feeling the scar that the Ethereal created on the back of your neck.
Â
You heard someone rushing towards you; soon after, you felt as if two people were looming over you.
Â
"Belle, take them to the staff room. I'll recharge Eous in my room."
Â
You heard a familiar voice, and you smiled gently when you realized who it was. You felt your tail wagging, sweeping dirt from the ground.
It was embarrassing to show this type of behavior in public, but you were too tired to care.
Â
You sat up to see Belle in front of you, trying her best to help you. She took your arm and wrapped it around her shoulder, lifting you up to help you stand. But as you tried to listen to what she was saying, your vision became blurry, and then you passed out.
â
Â
Your fingers played with your horns as you stared at the television in front of you. A blanket was moved aside to give you some space on the couch you were sitting on.
Â
You've woken up 10 minutes prior, confused about what happened. Fortunately, Belle was here when you woke up and explained everything to you. She was always nice to talk to; she's optimistic and cheerful no matter the situationâits great.
Â
But after a few minutes, she stood up from the couch and told you that she's going on a girls night out with Nicole and Anby. As she approached the door to leave the room, she looked at you and winked.
Â
"Wise's making you some tea upstairs. Good luck with him, you hear?~" You heard her whisper.
Â
And here you are now, sitting nervously as you overthink about Belle's words. Other than the bangboos inhabiting the store, it was only you and wise. You and wise. Your heart started to beat rapidly, and you looked to your side to see that your tail was wagging ever so slightly.
Â
You tried to calm down, inhaling and exhaling slowly. Just as you were calming down though, you heard footsteps from upstairs...then they walked down the stairs.
Â
Calm down, calm down. You can't let wise see you like this. It'll be embarrâ
Â
"Oh, hey, you're awake."
Â
You jumped and snapped your head towards the door to see wisely at the doorway. He became concerned as he saw you breathing heavily, putting the two glass cups on the table behind the couch, and rushed to you.
Â
"Sorry...did I scare you? Here. I made you tea."
Â
He carefully picked up the cup and gave it to you. Still stunned by his presence, you shakingly accepted it. The cup felt warm; it wasn't too hot to the point where it could burn you. You smiled, and your tail wagged once more.
Â
"It's nothing fancy. I don't know if the tea they serve on the Loufu is any different, but I hope you like it." Wise said.
Â
You nodded, taking a sip of the tea he made. Your eyes closed as your taste buds danced with how good it was. Wise giggled at your reaction.
Â
"I'm guessing that you enjoy it?"
Â
"Mhm. It tastes slightly different than the ones from the Loufu...but still as delicious as any tea I've tried so far."
You held the cup up, inspecting it as if it were some piece of treasure. Wise laughed, but his attention was quickly stolen by your tail wagging constantly beside you. He smiled.
Â
"Are you that happy to see me? Every time we meet in person, your tail always wags."
Â
You paused your drinking, suddenly feeling embarrassed at your own behavior. You avert your gaze, trying to hide your red face from wise. He moved closer to you upon seeing your reaction.
Â
"Hey, it's okay! I'm happy to see you as well; you shouldn't be risking your life in that hollow though..." He reminded you. You looked at him straight in the eyes, opening and closing your mouth as you struggled to get a word out.
Â
"I-i just wanted to keep you safe...and Eous. Yeah." You awkwardly explained to him. Wise sighed, grabbing the blanket behind him and throwing it over your shoulders.
Â
"Get some rest before you leave. You deserve it." Wise said. His voice was so comforting to you; it was soft and pleasant to your ears. You quietly purred.
"Oh right. Forgot to ask; did you bring back the videotape you rented a while back?" Wise asked. You froze in place.
You've completely forgotten that you rented a videotape from here a few weeks ago. And today was the deadline.
"I...may have forgotten it back in the Loufu. Haha."
You paced back and forth. Completely deep in your thoughts. You looked absolutely ridiculous in public, but people were too busy minding their own business to look at you weird.
Â
In your hands was a box that looked like nothing from this world.
Â
Of course it wasn't; it's a box containing the finest souvenirs from the Xianzhou Loufu. You held it close to your chest, preventing anyone from potentially stealing it. Or even worse, breaking the precious and fragile souvenirs inside. That would be a disaster. You'd have to pay a good amount of money to the seller you bought these from.
Â
Sitting on the bench behind you, you quickly pulled out your phone. Looking at your contacts to find a specific person, he was the reason you came here in the first place.
Â
A smile formed on your face when you saw his name; your scaled tail wagged simultaneously. But as you hovered your finger on the screen to click on his profile, you hesitated.
Â
It was already late at night by the time you were here, so contacting him now wouldn't be ideal. You sighed, putting your phone back in your pocket, and stood up. Simply accepting that tomorrow morning would be a more appropriate time to give him the box.
Â
You turned around to pick up the box, only to realize that it was gone. Your eyes widen at the sight, and your heart beats fast as you panic. You frantically looked around to see if anyone had taken it purposely or mistakenly.
Â
That's when you heard it. From your pointy ears, you heard the echoes of rapid footsteps coming from your left. You snapped your head in the direction of the sound; sure enough, you saw a figure running towards the gross alleyways of lumina square.
Â
"STOP. STOP IT. YOU THIEF."
Â
You quickly chased him down as confused bystanders backed away in fear. The hooded man with your box created all sorts of obstacles to slow you down, from kicking down stacks of empty boxes to straight up pushing down a dumpster.
Â
Unfortunately for him, this was nothing to you. Like any of the other Vidyadhara from the Loufu, you were athletic. Easily dodging the obstacles the man created.
Â
He looked over his shoulder to see that you were almost caught up to him. He whimpered in fear, but just as he was about to pick up the pace to lose you, he tripped on something heavy and metallic. The impact nearly broke his foot in the process.
Â
The box flung upwards, but thankfully someone effortlessly caught it with one hand. As you ran closer to the scene, you frozen. Tail wagging once more as you saw a tall, well-dressed wolf thiren standing in front of you. One of his prosthetic legs was stepping on the thief's back as a way to restrain him.
Â
"Oh?" The man said. It was a familiar voiceâthe voice that makes you fall to your knees mentally every time you hear it.
Â
"L-lycaon! I didn't expect you to be here at this hour." You expressed your shock to him.
Â
"The same would apply to you. I wouldn't have expected to see you here in Eridu-47."Â
Â
As Lycaon said that, he felt the man below him wiggling himself to try and escape. The thiren's eye glowed as a warning, and the hooded man squealed in fear as he finally pleaded guilty for his actions.
Â
"I-i-im sorry! It won't happen again! I promise! I swear! I-iâ"Â
Â
The hooded man begged. Lycaon crouched and leaned towards the side of the man's face, whispering something directly to his ear.
Â
You couldn't hear it, but you know Lycaon said something terrible when the man screamed in fear and quickly ran away the second Lycaon removed his leg from his back.
Â
You were kind of scared, of course, but it was Lycaon. You trusted him dearly, and he has proved his sincerity many times before. So, you didn't question anything. Lycaon looked at you in relief, now holding the box full of goods with both of his hands.
Â
"Apologies for my unbefitting behavior just now. I believe this belongs to you."
Â
He handed you the box; he looked at you so softly that you couldn't help but stare at his face for a few seconds.
Â
But you snapped out of your thoughts and declined. Lightly pushing the box back towards him. Of course, he was confused. Then you explained to him.
Â
"It's for you, silly! No need to give it back to me." You giggled; you could see his one eye widen in surprise.
Â
"My...you're too kind. I don't deserve such treatment from the likes of you." He said. You saw his ears twitching and his tail ever so slightly wagging from this; you smiled. Holding back a laugh.
Â
He looked down at the box, now noticing that it's tightly sealed. Preventing anything from falling out.
Â
"And what awaits me inside this box, may I ask?" He asked you.
Â
One hand was gently placed on top of the box while the other held the bottom part so as not to let it fall to the break.
You walked closer to him, looking upwards to his face as you smiled widely.
Â
"Inside are exclusive items from the Xianzhou Loufu. How about you open it and see for yourself? W-well, maybe not in this dirty alleyway at least." You awkwardly laughed. The thiren merely chuckled, gently taking your hand.
Â
"Then I know just the place. If I may?" Your eyes widen when he offers you this; your horns glowed brightly as you felt your tail wagging. You smiled, nodding at his offer.
Â
"Lead the way, dear attendant." You playful said. He laughed.
Â
"Please. Just call me Lycaon."
Â
Then the two of you walked out of the alleyway, admiring the nightly scenes of lumina square as Lycaon guided you to the rooftop of a building.
Â
You smiled widely; tonight turned out better than you expected it to be. You couldn't wait to see his reaction to the items inside the box, and quite frankly, you were just very happy to be by his side.
Oh, what a happy little dragon you are right now.

I've been thinking a lot today about how easily people condemn Solas for making the choices he did or for so regularly refusing the help and love his friends or a romanced Lavellan extended to him and how that's a very easy thing to do from behind a screen in a fictional game where you are able to (with very few exceptions) curate a world in which your allies are loyal and your decisions will go the way you'd like them to.
And yeah, it's a game and that's kind of the point, but if I were to look at it a little more deeply (and who am I kidding, I got back on this website exclusively to process the aftermath of Veilguard) I'd say that there's so much to be found in wondering if the protagonists in any of the other games would have fared better in similar conditions.
Apparently I can't stop making long posts, so buckle in.
What would Morrigan have become in a world where the Warden never stumbled upon her cottage with Flemeth, if she never got the chance to see more of the world and decide what she wanted out of it? With just her mother (who, coincidentally in this Solas-y discussion is also kind of Mythal) and no support, who is to say what she would have unleashed upon the Korcari Wilds one day when the confines of her cage became too much?
What about Leliana? She, too, suffered at the hands of a very controlling abuser who tried to convince her that one lifestyle was all that her future held. What do we think she would have become if not for a chance meeting in Lothering with someone who could help her face down the woman that molded her?
Fenris, a character MANY people are just fine with was incredibly ready to kill a mage on sight if need be, no questions asked. Where do we think his story goes if he doesn't have someone in his corner early on enough in the game? If he doesn't get caught by Danarius, he's almost certainly going to end up on a murder spree, and he doesn't even have Justice whispering in his head to do it.
Cullen. Just all of him. It's an absolute miracle he hasn't snapped by the time you encounter him in Inquistion, and even then you get the benefit of intervening at a critical point in his story several times over.
Almost every other character could face this analysis and I think we'd reach a result that suggests perhaps the only thing keeping them lovable is your playable character's investment in their well-being.
Enter Solas. We don't meet him when he's twenty to thirty something and on the precipice of falling down a dark path. He's been there for literal millennia already, and with the exception of one close friend he's been alone. And not even Felassan is enough because of the years Mythal had prior to that friendship to make Solas exactly who she needed him to be.
I've had shit friends before that aren't just good at isolating people, they're naturals. I barely made it through high school with my mental health in place (in fact, looking back, it almost certainly wasn't). When you think you've got a true friend and they need something of you, it's so easy to blindly follow them because you think your love is enough to mark someone's soul as trustworthy. Solas doesn't learn that lesson until it's too late, and even when he does he can't turn back: the spirit that was once Wisdom has been exposed to several of the worst ancient elves to ever exist and now he has to stand his ground rather than let it all fall, because that is what Pride would dictate. Admitting that the person you gave your love and labor and time to is a monster is hard. And he was alone.
Give me Morrigan after centuries with her mother. Show me Leliana after the years have become a blur and the only voice whispering in her ear is Marjolaine's. Show me the innocent mages that don't make it through if all Fenris has for years and years and years are the scars Danaris left him and the means to make more. Show me Cullen if he stays in a chain of command under a Knight Commander who knows exactly what he fears and holds it over his head for so long he forgets what it was like to be an excited kid begging the templars for training because he just wants to keep people safe.
We get companions in these games who are broken by the time they're twenty. Solas has spent thousands of years in servitude to a cause of a woman he believed to be his only friend. He doesn't know who he is without her influence, anymore, only exists physically in the first place because she asked it of him and then asked again and again and again. He doesn't have a witty band of merry fools to pull him out of that cycle. He has Felassan, but he has him during war after war after war in the hopes of freeing others from the very situation that torments him.
Trauma from war affects everyone touched by it, nevermind the fact that Solas is actively responsible for saving the lives of thousands and feels each life like a weight around his neck because maybe he can save them like he cannot save himself. We should always be worried about the people trying to do the most good. Who is looking out for them? Why are they so determined to help others? Could it be that it's something they wish others had done for them?
Solas certainly feels comradery with Felassan from working together to free slaves from the very people he helped put in power because Mythal told him it would be okay only to leave him with the pieces, but even the Solas that Felassan knows has been turned into an attack dog shying away from the touch of the very person it desires to be near above all others by the time their relationship forms.
The fact that Solas is able to try and show the Inquisitor who he is at all is a miracle as far as I'm concerned, a sign of a peaceful spirit of Wisdom who loves knowledge for the sake of it finally sensing that there might be a chance to embrace its nature again.
Yeah, if you give him what he has come to expect from people with power, if you let near-absolute power over the masses corrupt you, he's going to bristle and try to shut your inquisitor down.
But if you show him even the smallest bit of kindness? If you treat him like the starving wolf he talks about and feed him instead of fighting him? God, it shatters his entire existence.
It's called a cycle of abuse for a reason. Finding friendship, finding the love of your long-ass life can be the first step in realizing there's better out there. But the time it takes to learn that? When you're too weary to even reach out for help in the first place and afraid of every kind word or gesture because you've never known such tenderness (on a platonic OR romantic level, both matter so so much) before?
Part of the compelling tragedy of Solas is that it's almost Orpheus-like how he knows what he has been made into and still cannot stop himself from yearning for more, from turning around to see if just this once something has changed. You can't convince me that he hasn't spent years hoping that someone will hear the legend of the Dread Wolf and see it for what it is, a leash the Evanuris created for Mythal's whipping boy to ensure that even if he ever escapes them, the people he fought to save will hate him. And I cannot blame him for the shock and terror that consumes him when he realizes someone finally has.
You give me any of dragon age companions after the amount of time Solas spent under Mythal's thumb without your character's intervention and you tell me how that looks.
You tell me if they're able to change at the first sign of something that feels too good to be true.
And then, I want you to tell me they're any less worthy of trying to save, especially when you know how good their best can be.
Solas might be hard for some fans to love, but it's only because he serves as the perfect representation of the beast we are all capable of becoming when the love that sustains us, assuming we receive any at all, is laced with poison.
The journey out of that place, out of a literal prison of regret, is brutal, and I'm thrilled that even with the many things about Veilguard I'm still struggling with, we have the chance to let Solas try again with the help of those who love him not because he never fell down, but because they believe in the beauty of a future where he gets back up again.

Ifa has the best character design in Natlan and you are ready for this conversation.

Don't get me wrong, his kit is pretty basic - we got like 5 anemo catalysts by now, but his character design is great. And here's why.
In previous regions genshin always showed us a certain character's occupation by their outfit, which made characters really distinct fron each other and feel more realistic (yes irl doctors don't wear their uniform outside work but this is a game and they don't have other outfits anyway). Natlan kinda moved away from it, you can't tell Xilonen is a blacksmith or Mavuika is an archon as she has no official-looking attire (the only other chara who's close to classic genshin is probably trainer Iansan but her design is casual enough to be a regular outfit).
But with Ifa every part of his design screams doctor/vet.
Starting up with obvious - white coat resembling a medical gown, the bag with medical equipment and a badge.

He also has a red cross variant arm band and emblem on his bag.

Even his companion got the cross and a badge!
Ifa also has a glove on one hand, resembling the glove used for holding birds of prey.

On the other hand and his eye he's got some scars once again telling us he works with animals.

Speaking about animals btw. We have the entire plotline of natlanians having a special bond with their saurians just to not have any of the playable characters who have a companion?? Even when apparently everyone and their mom have one???
Ifa is the only character who doesn't only have his saurian companion in his idle, but his companion is in his kit animations too!
This has to be my favourite part about his design and it makes him feel the most natlanian character out of them all.

I mentioned before that perhaps going all-in with professional attire would be too much, but with all the details about Ifa's occupation he still has his whimsy with bright colour pallette and a fun hat.
Other details I just like are skeleton-looking nightsoul detailing (esp on his face and hand),
Detailing resembling a poncho on his back,
And ornaments on soles of his boots.

Also the fact that Ifa is not paper-white lol.
I was pretty dissapointed with character design in Natlan (to the point of it ruining the impression of the region in general), but I really like Ifa's design and he's definitely my favourite out of them all.

Panel from Hell Info Roundup
We got a release teaser trailer!
CHARACTER CREATION/CUSTOMIZATION
Character creation got a revamp! More efforts were made to explain things to someone who hasnât played D&D before, or one who hasnât played other Larian games. Classes now also have unique animations when you select them.
Choice options now have a corresponding icon, so you can see what youâre selecting.
There are more available faces to choose from.
Dragonborn and half-orcs are playable at launch.
Warlocks are now able to call on their patron for insight and advice.
New sliders have been added for Maturity (adding wrinkles), Freckle Quantity (and intensity), and Vitiligo Pigmentation.
Horn Customization! Now you can change their color and tip color.
There are scar options.
More hair and beard options! As well as more options for hair colors (including greying) to have tri-colored hair.
Strong/buff body types added!
Piercing options have been added.
Heterochromia option has been added.
Dragonborn can customize their face, crest, chins, and jaws. Skin color options include metallic, almost duo-chrome shades. For white dragonborns, there are also pearlescent effects. Dragonborn Draconic Bloodline sorcerers will get a unique scale pattern that changes color based on your ancestry.
There is also a selection for genitals, which they did not elaborate on, but was selected as âdefault.â
You will meet a character that will allow you to reset your class and respec your abilities.
The team went back from Act 1-3 to make the game more reactive to your choices. If youâre playing something odd or unique, the game should react to it.
THE DARK URGE
They are the new Origin Character, and they are avatar-only; they can only be played by you, not recruited.
You can fully customize their race and class.
They do not know who they are; they are waking up, and the only thing they know is âthe bile of their liver, the gushing of their blood, and their ruined body telling them: youâre going to kill and kill again.â They are meant to be a dark counterpoint to the story.
Has unique scenes and storylines unlike anything else weâve seen thus far.
They have dark impulses and thoughts that tempt them; you can play as embracing it or trying to resist.
At 4:36:55, we have some gameplay of them from early on in Act 1.
KARLACH
She is an Origin Character, and you can recruit her or play as her.
Born and raised in Baldurâs Gate, was sold to slavery in the Hells, and managed to break free. She has an infernal engine for a heart.
Sheâs a barbarian who has a special rage animation/effect.
Curses a lot.
At 5:20:00, thereâs a bit of extended gameplay and one of her romance scenes.
OTHER/MISC COMPANIONS
Many of the companions are good-aligned, including Karlach, Halsin, Minsc, and Jaheira. For evil companions, there is Minthara, who you can recruit in Act 2 depending on your choices.
Wyll has gotten a complete overhaul. Much of his dialogue has been rewritten, and he âcan go in two directionsâ much earlier in the story. He wants to kill Karlach at the beginning of the game, and how that unfolds is up to you.Â
If you kill your companions, you can hire Hirelings. There are twelve (one for each of the classes), and you can customize and respec them.
Companions will join your camp and be able to come with you along your journey; you donât have to choose between them, but can swap them out as you see fit. If anyone leaves or isnât able to be recruited, it will be by your own choices or the narrative.
When youâre playing as an Origin Character, youâre not a mystery to yourself. Youâll get unique scenes and information that you may not otherwise get with them as your companion. For instance, when you go to sleep, you might have nightmares about your past.
A scene relevant to Astarionâs backstory was shown at 4:25:57.
ROMANCE
They tried to show âtwo people genuinely struggling through a hard time and supporting one another. And youâre not going to be the same person in Act 1 as you are in Act 3. Neither is your partner. Your relationship is going to have to grow along with the gameâs story.âÂ
At 4:46:10, they have a video where they discuss this and show scenes from the romances.Â
How you treat your companions will be reflected in how they treat you. Whether they want to be in a relationship with you, whether they leave your party, or even try to kill you -- all depends on your choices.Â
âSometimes itâs actually better to have an argument, and challenge your partner about their way of thinking.â
Some characters will happily share romantic partners with polyamory; some of them wonât.
Characters may have very different romantic endings based on what happens during the game and how you treat them or what you did with them. Thereâs not just one scene thatâs the same for all playthroughs.
You can still romance people on âevilâ playthroughs, so long as you play your cards right.
Mature content warning! There is a romance scene between Astarion and Halsin that the audience helped select at 5:32:49. Wowza. Worth getting banned from TikTok?Â
COMBAT
Multiplayer is up to four people, with split screen.Â
There are 3 difficulty modes: explorer (or easy), default, and tactician (hard). Tactician mode gives enemies base buffs, but also hand-crafted difficulty increases to encounters.Â
The âbrutal AIâ from tactician mode is supposed to feel like a DM that is pushing you to your limits, which manifests in ways like attacking your squishier characters, or trying to break castersâ concentration.
At 5:44:28, thereâs a video showcase on the Monk class. Two minutes later, at 5:46:13, thereâs some combat gameplay showing off monks and the different difficulty modes.
STORY AND CINEMATICS
At 6:00:40, thereâs a video showcasing cinematics, with various clips from the game featured (lots of enemies/creatures shown).Â
They estimate that running through the main story will take about 80 hours, but it can go multiple times that length if you actually take your time and explore.Â
174 hours of cinematics doesnât mean youâll see all of them; itâs more that thereâs so many permutations and reflections of the choices that you made, that you might not even see them all even if you play this game over and over again.
MISC
When you go to camp, you are now able to wear âcamp clothesâ rather than your armor, which can be toggled on and off. You can find various clothes in the world, and apply dyes to them. You can wear them outside of camp if you want to as well.Â
Cloaks are added.
The devs prefer not to think of this being a story told to you, but rather a story they are telling with you. Though there are many themes, trust is a big one: who you can trust, why you can trust them, and why the world should trust you as well.
Thereâs an unboxing of the Collectorâs Edition at 6:14:26.
There is a very heavy spoiler chunk of gameplay from Act 2, starting at 6:20:42, which closes out the stream!
#baldur's gate#baldur's gate 3#bg3 spoilers#there be some spoilers here! i tried not to include stuff from gameplay#long post#phew that was a doozy

on the topic of that time sixteen-year-old jack marston got mauled by a grizzly bear: he definitely retained some scars from that, right? when john finds him, heâs covered in a decent amount of blood, and he has visible scratches on his face.
his character model doesnât reflect that he almost died to a full grown bear after the event. maybe rockstar didnât know how to do this in 2010, i donât know, but i always assumed he got some nasty scars from it. because, i reiterate, he was a scrawny sixteen-year-old that almost died to a Massive Grizzly Bear.
plus, with the fact that he almost definitely would have died right there if not for the plot armor of being haunted by the narrative (doomed to become the playable character in the de facto epilogue), i have to imagine thereâs no way he walked out of that alive without any very obvious signs of injury.
this would also lend to the fact that he can get very easily mistaken for john multiple times by strangers. thereâs this one stranger who tells him âyou look younger,â as if the only obvious discrepancy here is jack being about twenty years younger than john, not the absence of those vicious scars he got from the wolves.

i realised i never showed the world my little silly the thief!!
much like literally everyone else in this fandom i have an oc that is one of arti s pups. this is the one that stole a pearl and got stabbed and her goal is to find her mom so she can beat the shit out of her for abadoning them and their sibling
(more rambling about them below because i ve thought about this goober way too much. i basically wrote an entire campaign for them. with like 3 different endings and everything)
they have a scar on their back where they got stabbed. idk what the scar on their ear is from, i just thought it looked cool
she inherited arti s explosive saliva, but it s slightly different, and instead of explosives she can set things on fire :)
since she got stabbed in the back as a child she can t throw spears all that well
most things burn out pretty fast or just can t be set on fire at all so. her weapon of choice is burning pearls!! i have Thoughts about what pearls are made out of but i imagine they burn pretty well and for a pretty long time
naturally this means the scavengers fucking hate her. there s a reason she s called the thief- i d imagine if she was a playable scug her scav reputation wouldn t be automatically set really low like it is for arti, but since you can t really use much else as a weapon you d have to either struggle or steal from the scavengers regularly (i also think i d be cool if her karma wasn t locked like arti s is but her max karma would get lower the more you piss off the scavs- by the time she gets to metropolis tho i imagine she s basically in the same situation as artificer)
i also like to draw elite scavs with a few pearls attached to their masks, so i d imagine thief steals their masks to be able to hold more pearls at once
in terms of story, as i said, she s trying to find arti because she s angry at her for yk the whole abandoning her children and going on a murder rampage instead thing. their hypothetical campaign takes place between artificer and hunter, so arti is either living happily in metropolis or fucking dead (if you got the ascension ending- idk i think it d be interesting if what happens with thief would depend on what arti ending you got). i don t think thief would have a citizen drone like arti does so idk how they get into metropolis? idk maybe pebbles just decided to be nice for once-
if arti is there, thief fights her and basically just becomes artificer the second. steals the mask and everything
if arti isn t there.. thief is now basically stuck in metropolis (i think the using scavs to get thru gates thing would still work for them, but idk. getting out of metropolis is hard dude those scavs are shit at the game-), their goal is impossible, they re stuck in this hole that they dug themself into and for what? they abadoned their sibling out of their own anger with their mother, in trying to reach their goal they ve made everyone hate them and now they re just stuck here (this is probably what their "canon" ending is. tho i will probably also draw art of them fighting arti because i think it s cool)
((do you see what i m getting at here))
i think thief s ascension ending would somehow also depend on if artificer is ascended or not but i haven t though that much about it. tho i think it would show a memory of when they small and happy with their family :)
aaand that is all, thank you for reading about my silly little guy. i remembered i have 1 (one) actual oc so i must tell the world about her (not even entirely an oc but- this counts i think) also i want to make an animatic abt her at some point so. the people must know about the funny little guy
i do have one other scug oc. their name is the pilgrim and i have never drawn them-
#rain world#rain world fanart#rw#rain world oc#rw artificers pups#<- i swear i ve seen people use that tag before#thief my beloved#(<- that s their character tag in case i post more art of them later. might not happen idk we ll see. but just in case)#printis collection of silly goobers#this art is pretty old cuz i don t have the energy to draw the goober again but i wanted the world to see them#i still like the art tho

i literally love capitano so much yall donât understand. like thereâs something so tantalizing abt a big and scary guy + if he has a mask and therefore no one can tell what tf heâs thinking +++ points if heâs in a position of authority and power, when he becomes and absolute mush when with the person heâs pining over or is in a relationship with.
thereâs smt so cute abt imagining having him kneel before you easily without question wherever you two may be just so he wonât cause strain in your neck.
thereâs smt so sweet abt imagining him carrying you with his large arms wrapped so gently around your middle, carrying you on his shoulder or on his arm so your legs wonât hurt or you wonât have to worry about being left behind with his long strides and big imposing physique.
thereâs smt so tender abt imagining him with his helmet off, head resting on your chest, over the gentle thrumming of your heart as his scarred face looks up at you so reverently as if you were the one who created teyvat. how he would simply melt into your touch whenever your hand would cup his cheek or run through his long black hair.
thereâs smt so heart warming abt imagining him calling you with all sorts of loving nicknames. he never could simply choose one when all of them fits you so perfectly. âdarlingâ, âmy loveâ, âbelovedâ and if weâre going by the thought that capitano is natlandish and natlan is based off of viking country perhaps, then âkĂŚreâ (dearest).
anyways, il capitano better be playable and he better have a new model of an absolutely large and imposing mf like the samurais in inazuma. if not, i will riot

Have they ever mentioned anything about the differences between Marina, Acht, the Yoko band member, and Shiverâs pupils compared to the playable Octolings. In the dev diaries, the enemy Octolings have the same â shaped pupils.
I was just about ready to just accept it was an Idol thing. (Like when it was just Marina I thought it was some Tentatek brand deal.) But then Acht and all of the enemy Octolings had it in the dev diary art had it and now Iâm just confused lmao
Like I assume itâs a biology thing, but they didnât use it for the player Octolings cause they wanted to keep them consistent with inklings. BUT thatâs such a deeply unsatisfying answer to me, since weâre bringing so much attention to it now.
Nothing has been mentioned about it.
but they didnât use it for the player Octolings cause they wanted to keep them consistent with inklings. BUT thatâs such a deeply unsatisfying answer to me
I think this is the case and yes it's deeply unsatisfying.
I think the reason why we dont have fun pupil customization options is for a similar reason to why there was no hair style options in s1: to keep the player characters visually distinct and iconic from the idols and npcs.
Though they eventually added hair styles in 2, and in s3 gave colored pupils and different eyebrows as options. maybe s4 will finally give us pupil options? bring back the scrapped freckle and scar options? im praying for ear shapes personally

Hello hello hello there, good writer! I was wondering if you'd be open to writing platonic HCs for the currently playable Archons in the game. Basically, way back when during the Archon War (or in Nahida's case, some point early on when she was instated as Sumeru's new Archon) the Archon's save a baby dragon's (the reader) life. Now, centuries later, at some point following the events of the Archon quests, they encounter Dragon!reader reader- now a fully-matured dragon (Dragon is the same element as each Archon. Individually, I mean, they aren't multi-elemental). The Archon recognizes them through any number of factors (a scar in a very particular area of Dragon!Reader's body, a discolored patch of scales, etc.) And as for how they encounter each other, maybe the Archon is accompanying the Traveler on a commission, and dragon!reader saves the Traveler or Archon's ass when the situation gets dicey, maybe the Archon senses a familiar presence and investigates, perhaps paths cross and they find themselves saving (or assisting) dragon!reader yet again, or maybe it's just a chance case of the stars aligning in just the right way. Apologies for the massive word dump, just thought I'd give you some prompts in case you have trouble coming up with ideas for this, if you want to do it, or course!
That is such a cool idea! And I really appreciate the word dump, it really helped me out a great deal this time around, so thank you, kind anon<3
Characters Included: Zhongli; Venti; Nahida
Content: gender neutral! dragon! reader; platonic headcanons;
Word count: 2,2k words
I hope this comes somewhat close to what you had in mind. Hope you enjoy<3
Zhongli
Zhongli often looks back fondly at the times where he had adopted this strange baby dragon
the Archon War was a though time period, both for him and the people at his side, but having that baby to take care of by his side and teaching it all sorts of things made it somewhat bearable for him
he would often play around with it, sometimes even play fighting to show it a few moves and tricks and the dragon seemed to enjoy that a whole lot
though cuddling sessions always seemed to be the dragons favourite, especially when a certain spot under his chin was being scratched
it was a difficult spot for others to reach, seeing as it was surrounded by brown spikes, indicating your resonance with the Geo element, but seeing the happy expression on the baby's face made it worth it in the end
When the dragon later got older and grew up in Zhongli's care, it would often join him in various battles while the War still lasted
On one such battles, the dragon got hurt pretty badly in it's left eye, ultimately loosing it in the process. But it adjusted rather well to living with only half it's eyesight
Later, when the Archon war ended and peace had returned to Liyue, the dragon was all grown up now as well. And one day, without any prior indication, the dragon had just left, never to return again
Zhongli wasn't sad or anything. He understood that this is simply how nature works and he only wished the best unto his foster child
Sometimes, the Ex-Archon wonders if that dragon is still alive, but those thoughts always leave him rather quickly again. It's no use pondering about the unknown
And yet, imagine the surprise on Zhongli's face when he saw another dragon roam the sky just as he finished dealing with Azhdaha alongside the Traveller
Finding an opportunity to slip away from the group, he began traveling in the direction he saw the flying creature
it took some time, but he eventually found the dragon as it rested besides a small lake, soaking in the rays of sunshine onto it's scaled skin
fascinated by it, since dragons were a rare sight to see in this day and age, he decided to approach the creature, silently as to not startle it too much
as he got closer to the dragon, the creature soon picked up a new scent in the area and opened it's big eye, now spotting the approaching Zhongli
quickly, the creature got up and began roaring at him, and that's when Zhongli noticed a particular scar on the left eye of the dragon
Could it be... was it actually you?
Your name slipped past his lips and it made you hold in the middle of your actions. Zhongli could see the uncertainty in the dragons form, so he said your name again, staying still in his spot, only a few steps away
the dragon, still unsure, took another sniff of the surrounding air, taking in the scent of the new arrival, and suddenly, memories from its time as a baby came flooding into his mind, and you recognized the man in front of you
now seeming much calmer, you got closer to Zhongli, your long neck extending towards him so that your head was right in front of him
with a smile, the Ex-Archon extends his hand as well to scratch that certain spot under your chin, like he had always done many, many years ago
at this, the dragon closed its eye and a low grumbling sound could be heard deep within it's throat.
Zhongli almost couldn't believe it. His old friend was still alive and apparently doing pretty well for itself..
for some time, the two of them just sat down in the grass, enjoying the light of the still shining sun, while Zhongli just began talking, telling you of all the things that had happened while you were gone
And you were listening to every single one of his words, feeling happy to finally be reunited with him again..
Venti
Most people know about Dvalin - or Stormterror - and his connection to the anemo Archon. How he was one of the four winds that protected the nation of Mondstadt
but what the people did not know, is that there was a second dragon with the anemo Archon that had been taken in by him when it was only a small baby
as a result, the baby dragon has been raised both by Dvalin and the anemo Archon at the same time. While it learned typical dragon behaviour from Dvalin, Venti provided the baby other lessons important for its life ahead
the little dragon has always been a playful and adventurous one. It was getting into trouble quite frequently as a child, but such was the nature of freedom
Venti had always adored looking at this little dragon baby as he found the light green colour of your scales to be quite mesmerizing. He liked to think that the colour represented your connection with the Anemo element, and himself.
But what he found even more adorable was the little patch of white scales, right between the beginning of your legs and your hind legs. It was about the size of the palm of his hand, the colour never really coming through on that spot
While Venti and Dvalin engaged in the Archon war, you always decided to stay behind, rather enjoying the serenity that the nation of Mondstadt brought to you than to engage with bloody battles all the time
As time went on, you grew older and older, and Dvalin knew that the time would come where you would leave them behind. To find your own place within this world, without them by your side
and sure enough, one seemingly peaceful day, you went up to them one last time, seemingly telling your goodbyes with your eyes before you turned your back to them and flew off into the distant world ahead of you. Excited to see what was liying ahead, but also sad you had to leave them behind
many, many years have passed since that fateful day and a lot has happened since then. A mysterious traveller has appeared in the world of Teyvat, helping Venti to bring his old friend Dvalin back to his senses
Since that incident, Venti couldn't help but think back to the old times quite often, reminiscing of the memories all three of them shared. He would often wonder how you were doing these days, if you were well off..
on one such days, when he was laying beneath the tree at Windrise, thinking of old times, he did not notice a bunch of Abyss mages and their underlings approaching
when he did, it was already too late and he was surrounded by enemies. Though he tried fighting his way out, the number of enemies just seemed to increase, instead of decreasing
Venti began to worry and just as he was about to summon his old friend Dvalin for some help, a roar echoed from above the sky. All heads turned up as a huge creature descended downwards, instantly attacking the abyss mages and their hoards
for a second, the colourful scales made him think of a certain dragon, but he quickly shook off that feeling, concentrating on the battle at hand
it didn't take long until the enemies were dealt with, and as a moment of peace came to them, Venti turned and took in the familiar colour of light green scaling..
But.. that couldn't be, right? It surely was just a coincidence.. another dragon that just happened to have a similar colour to the one he once raised..
But, as the dragon remained on the ground, patiently looking at Venti, he couldn't shake off that feeling of familiarity
And then, the dragon turned to its side, showing Venti the undeniable truth of a missmatched patch of white scales among a sea of green..
It really was you...
Joy spread over Venti's face as he realized it really was his old friend that had come back to see him again
It didn't take long until he was on your back and you began ascending towards the sky again. Up there in the sky, with only the winds holding you back, Venti also summoned Dvalin to him to complete this reunion
Many roars sounded all throughout Mondstadt on this day as there were now two dragons roaming the skies of this nation...
Nahida
As the god of Dendro, Nahida had always liked the nature and all of its inhabitants
she would always try to sneek away to find a spot somewhere within the rainforest where she could just sit down and listen to the sounds of nature all around her
while the sages at that time did not approve of her behaviour, she continued to do so with the excuse of wanting to form a connection between her and her nation as well as it's people
one day while she was out again, she stumbled upon a tiny dragon baby. As she got closer, she noticed that the baby appeared to be hurt quite badly, yet it still backed up when she got closer, scared of her
it took some time and gentle reassuring from Nahida's side, but eventually, the small dragon let her get close, inspecting the wounds inflicted to it
deciding that she wanted to take care of it, she used her powers to build a sort of little hideout where she nurtured the dragon back to health over the course of a few weeks
while doing so, the baby dragon began trusting her more and more, until eventually, they formed a kind of bond between them
once the baby was all healed up, it didn't dissapear like Nahida thought it would. Instead, it decided to stay with her, playing around and growing up with her
every single time Nahida managed to slip out, the two of them were always together. Either laying in the grass, listening to the nature around them, or playing around and sometimes, she even helped the little dragon in learning how to fly
when they got tired, they lay together on the ground, the dragon having it's head on Nahida's lap as she carefully caressed the top of its head where the beatiful, deep green scales where less sharp than everywhere else on its body. The colour reminded her of the rainforest itself sometimes..
but what she found almost a bit more beautiful were those missmatched eyes of the dragon. One in a beautiful, piercing blue colour while the other was deep red, a stark contrast between the two
But then came the day where Nahida was whisked away by the Sages and sealed into the Sanctuary
it took hundreds of years until the traveller arrived in Sumeru and with the help of some others finally freeed Nahida of her everlasting prison
Thankful to have finally escaped, she did her best to handle everything by herself the best she could. She guided her nation into a new direction and took care of everything that the Sages had taken over
which led to her not once having left the city since she has been freeed. Though Nahida yearned to just go outside and sit in the nature again, she had obligations to take care of, that required her urgent attention
until the Traveller came around another time, insisting on her taking a break for once. In his words, all those problems would still be there once she returned from the break, but her well being was important as well, especially for her people she needed to be in good shape
so, taking him up on the offer, the Traveller, Nahida and Paimon went into the rainforest like she wanted to. While wandering around, they passed the old hideout Nahida had once built for that baby dragon
Memories flooded her mind upon seeing it and she smiled a bit, though it appeared to be a bit sad. The Traveller noticed, but before he could ask Nahida about it, they heard some rustling behind them
Weapon at the ready, the Traveller was prepared to attack should the need arise
And then, from behind some trees, a dragon emerged, eyes fixed onto them
and Nahida instantly recognized you. Not because of the deep green colour of your scales that only seemed to have become even more beautiful over the years. But because of those disscoloured eyes that she was never able to forget
you seemed to recognize her as well, showing no signs of aggression at all, which made the Traveller lower his weapon again
finally reunited again after so many years, both of you seemed happy to be within the presence of each other again
you gently pressed the tip of your nose into her face, gently blowing air into her face which made her giggle a bit. She then climbed onto your back, resting there while the now four of you continued this walk through the rainforest
And even after that, you continued to stay by Nahida's side, always there to protect her should anything ever happen to her again. You were ready to make them regret their decision if people decided to ever mess with her again...

Do you know of games where acquired 'detriments' (such as scars and traumas) give players unique benefits rather than being seen as strictly detrimental?
Preferably ones where its not just "Get a bonus when this causes a problem"
Theme: Helpful Detriments
Hello there, I had a question similar to this back in 2023, so Iâm going to redirect you to my Curses recommendation post first, because there might be something there that fits what youâre looking for. Then we can top off that list with a few more!
When I think of this kind of thing, I think of three categories: horror, the paranormal, and cyberpunk.
External Containment Bureau, by Mythic Gazetteer.
External Containment Bureau is a game of paranormal investigation and bureaucracy using a lightweight, hackable version of the Forged in the Dark design framework. You play as trained agents of the External Containment Bureau, an organization tasked with the study, identification, and containment of paranormal phenomena.
The Bureau authorizes agents to make use of these phenomena to give yourself incredible powers (so long as the proper forms are in order). But take care: using paranormal energies inches you ever closer to joining the ranks of the paranormal yourself. Will you transcend humanity in the line of duty? Play to find out.
ECB gives your characters special paranormal powers during the course of play, and whenever you take enough resonance (ECBâs Stress mechanic) you mark another one. Your character can take up to 3 powers before things get tricky: mark enough resonance to get your 4th power and you are no longer a playable character - you get promoted, demoted, or transcend past mundane existence. If you were to hack this system, I think you could flavor these powers and abilities to make them feel more like curses - in fact, I think Congregation, by DM Rawlings, does something like this.
Urban Shadows, by Magpie Games.
The streets bleed shadows as the supernatural politics of the city threaten to swallow you whole. Will you die a heroâa savior for those who have never had enoughâor live long enough to become the villain? Will you fight the darknessâŚor give in for power?
The choice is yours.Â
In Urban Shadows, your characters are constantly wrestling with the opportunity to be really shitty people in exchange for Corruption. Each character has a special move that entices them, such as the Spectreâa move âwitness a scene and do nothingâ - which gives you corruption. Mark enough corruption, and you get more powerful - like the Spectreâs Telekinesis ability.
Of course, the more Corruption moves you have, the faster you take corruption, and once youâve maxed out your Corruption limit - well, your character isnât really a hero anymore, are they? (Which is why the GM gets control of them, and you make a new character.)
The link above is for the 1st edition. The 2nd Edition Quickstart is a teaser of what's coming soon.
Heart: The City Beneath, by Rowan, Rook & Decard.
Heart: The City Beneath is a complete tabletop roleplaying game about delving into a nightmare undercity that will give you everything youâve ever dreamed of â or kill you in the process.
It is a dungeon-crawling, story-forward tabletop RPG from the designers of Spire that focuses on what characters have to lose in pursuit of their dreams in the chaotic darkness beneath the world.
Heart is known for many things: its juicy setting, its utilization of the classic dungeon crawl, its body horror⌠but the horrifically gorgeous descriptions of the characters are what weâre here for. Watch your characters slowly hollow themselves out and give themselves over to whatever dark power has given them unique abilities. These characters will get more and more powerful⌠until they reach the final session, where everyone goes out in a big blazing, gory mess.
The Fallout system also gives the GM a chance to give characters interesting trauma and wounds, but they also could help generate interesting Beats that players want to work toward in order to level up. I think mechanically, this recommendation might have a loose connection to what youâre looking for, but thematically it might still be close.
Doll.Bod, by curatrix-ribston.
In a City of neon lights and shimmering pools of acid rain, the world ends a little each day. Hunger and sickness walk the streets like the ripper in the tales of old, taking those that the system casts aside.Â
There is a way out. When you've got nothing else, you can always mortgage your body. The corpos have use for an object's flesh, for those they can augment without having to care for those pesky regulations. They're just playing with dolls really.
Dolls that they send on the jobs you can't actually send your employees on. They're not comitting crimes, just making creative use of their property.
That's what you are now. Their property. Maybe, with time, you can be something else entirely.
Letâs talk about Doll.Bod.
You are really cool cyborgs, with really deadly abilities and useful skills. You each have special abilities like the Razor-grrlâs skin razors that can cut at the slightest touch, or the Seamful, whose blood can heal herself every time she gets hit. The catch is: you donât have control of your body. Your body has been sold, and the corporation that bought it is using it as they please. In play, this is often represented by other players at the table making decisions for you about what your character does - with safety tools in place, of course.
Not only that, your own special abilities harm your character in certain ways - for instance, The Razor-grrl canât engage in physical intimacy with anyone, because sheâs likely to hurt them, while the Gargoyle canât turn her eyes off - until they short out, that is.
Other Games I Talk About Ad Nauseum...
Apocalypse Keys has a Ruin track similar to that of Urban Shadows, giving your characters more and more powerful abilities that encourage their descent into monstrosity, constantly pushing them towards ending the world. Itâs not necessarily a bad thing either - sometimes the more satisfying outcome is tearing down the whole organization and rebuilding anew.
Those of Us Who Know Better has superheroes whose power always comes at a cost. In one way, you could see this as a detriment with a bonus (having to do certain things to get access to special powers) although I acknowledge that it might be a bit of a stretch.
Numenera has a lot of random mutations that can happen to you if you choose to use the random tables at the back of Destiny, and the Rusthaven expansion has some other abilities that come with both benefits and setbacks.

GW2 OC Questions: Combat Edition âď¸â¨
General Combat
1. How good are they in combat? Can they handle themselves in most fights? Is there anything that hinders them or acts as an exploitable weakness?
2. Do they like to fight? Is it something they only do when necessary, or are they always looking for a fight? Is fighting an important part of their life or something they actively try to avoid?
3. Are they good at hand-to-hand combat or do they prefer to keep their distance? Can they handle both situations? If not, what happens if they're forced to fight from an inconvenient distance or too up close for comfort?
4. How do they fight? Do they tend to stick to a strategy or just improvise? Do they prefer to win fast and hard, or to let their enemy tire themselves out before striking them down? Do they favor brute force and resistance, speed and dexterity, or something else? Do they fight fairly or is winning the only important thing? Elaborate!
5. Are they good at fighting alongside allies or are they better fighting solo? Are they better at taking orders or leading? Is there anyone (friends, pets, summons, etc) they synergize particularly well with?
6. What combat situation are they better suited for? Can they handle a 1v1 fight or do they prefer to have someone always on their side? How do they deal with larger-scale combat and what's their role in it (frontlines/leading the charge, backline/support, as far from it as possible, etc)? What happens if they are ambushed or outnumbered? Is there any situation that stressed them particularly?
7. How much have they trained to get where they are? Were they a prodigy/naturally talented, or did they have to struggle a lot to reach their current skill level? Did anyone teach them or are they self-taught? Have they ever had a regular sparring partner? Do they still train regularly?
8. Do they have any visible scarring or lasting injuries from previous combat experiences? How did they get them? How do they feel about them?
9. Are they also a healer/medic? What can they do if someone is hurt and needs assistance? Can they heal themselves? Do they have a plan for when they're injured?
Weapons and Magic
10. What weapons do they generally use? Are they particularly proficient with anything specific or have a preference of any kind?
11. Are there weapons they can't use to save their life? Why?
12. They have no access to their usual weapons of choice. What other weapons do they pick? How do they fare?
13. Can they use magic? If yes, what kind? If not, is there a specific reason?
14. Is there any particular quirk to their magic? Is there something they can't do with their magic that others usually can? Is there something they can do particularly well?
15. How powerful is their magic compared to their peers? How do they feel about it? Is it their limit?
16. Is there any unique way in which they mix their magic and weapons? Can they do it at all?
17. Do they have any fears or traumas tied to their own weapons/magic? (ie: sharp weapons user afraid cutting themselves, elementalist afraid of fire/deep water, necromancer afraid of death, etc)
18. Can they handle themselves in a fight without using weapons? And without using magic? What would they do if they were in a fight and disarmed/unable to use magic?
19. Are their skills augmented by anything? (ie. enchanted armor, prosthetics/physical augmentations, blessings from powerful beings, rituals, experimentation, etc)

CRK x MCYT AU: Life Series (playable) Gem Mermaids
Asks/Fanart is appreciated, make sure to give credit when using the designs/AU!

yk what that means. FISH.
Lizzy/LDshadowlady, (Berry Soda Cookie,) despite being an Ancient, also fills in the space of Sea Fairy Cookie. It was only fitting that I made the mermaids of tearcrown Life Series members. I didnât know who to put as the rest of the gem mermaids, so have the main two. (And before yâall ask, Rubies and sapphires are pretty close as gems irl and can come in a variety of colors like green and yellow.)
More info/lore below the cut:
Scar, or Abyssal Ruby Cookie (formerly Gold Sapphire Cookie, the youth of the Gem Mermaids,) is the AU equivalent of Black Pearl Cookie, first the joy and light of the Tearcrown equivalent, now residing at the bottom of the Duskgloom Sea as its sovereign and destroying every ship that dares enter the territory. Despite his spiteful and sadistic nature, he still has a little bird friend that comes around every now and againâŚ
Moon Pearl Cookie is the eldest Gem Mermaid, Matriarch, and General of the AUâs equivalent of Tearcrown. Despite her hard and strategic exterior, she has a kind heart more valuable than the very gem on her head and cared for the safety of every resident in Tearcrown. Her loyal dogfish Till is a huge help as well. Once a revered general, she has now become a ruthless bounty hunter since the incident, fighting to keep herself alive.
(Fun fact: Till is one of the only creature outside of the Duskgloom Sea allowed in or out, because heâs too small and fast and cute for Abyssal Ruby to kill and will bite him if AR even tries to attack him.)
The Almighty Sea has been deathly silent since the Dark Flour War. The very same timeframe where it all went wrongâŚ

Daud in "Dishonored" has been confirmed by word of god (writer's commentary) to be asexual and, honestly, I really like it. It's not relevant to the story, really, except as an accent to his character, a complement to his lonely career as a brutal assassin and to his complicated mentorship of Billie Lurk being his closest relationship.
He's such a shipwreck of a man. A bitter villain of so many stories, with his one claim to heroism done largely in secret out of guilt. He has so much power and skill, and yet his lot in life is on a precipice; as The Knife of Dunwall, his main mark in history is as a weapon in other people's hands. At least until he takes it upon himself to kill a god rather than take full responsibility for the blood on his hands and fails, leaving Billie Lurk to crawl out of the wreckage of Daud's tragic life and finish the job. He raised people up to drag them down with him. So much of his history is a mystery we don't get to know. I find him deliciously "problematic" and horribly compelling.
(I also really like his voice. It's like seawater on metal for years on end. Every time that I let playthroughs of "Dishonored" go on in the background, when I get to the part where Corvo meets Daud, I rewind in order to appreciate Daud peculiar form of poetic, personal bullshit.)
It's all very funny to me. I usually prefer that sexualities be stated in text in some way, like the way Billie Lurk's attraction to men and women is voiced aloud very explicitly in "Death of the Outsider", but with asexuality I think it's generally harder for characters to casually voice hard proof in an in-universe style, with the "prove a negative" angle on things. And I think there's an argument to be made that maybe Daud being on the aro-ace spectrum contributed to his refusal to form many close connections and to his eventual downfall, which sounds terrible. And he's such a terrible, complicated person that positioning him as "positive asexual representation" in any way is automatically amusing. And still, I love it.
Like, this is Daud, the Knife of Dunwall, and he sucks (affectionate)! He's also ace! Cool, right? (I do honestly think that he's fun ace representation, actually. No "innocence", no "obliviousness", but rather "scarred beyond belief" and "just doesn't give a shit". I like having queer characters, especially playable video game protagonists with cool powers, who are tragic and awful.)

we only come out at night (v:tm city meta, 3/?)
Published World of Darkness material is of... varying usefulness, when you put your city together. Sometimes, your city will have a By Night sourcebook, and a lot of top down design will be done for you, but you'll have to build up from your PCs to do that. Sometimes, your city will have a paragraph or page in something else: you'll know that the Prince of Manchester is named Charles Shawlands, is a seventh generation Ventrue, and rules over a damp and gloomy domain that gets more attention from Changeling writers than Vampire ones.
And that's the way, uh huh, uh huh, I like it.
worked example: building your Prince
I usually start by rattling through the history of the city at surface level. looking for hooks. In this case: Manchester wasn't really a city that warranted a Prince or a Kindred population until the late eighteenth/early nineteenth century, so it's likely that the first Kindred to have settled there ended up Prince by default.
I wanted to roll with an older Prince than I had last time, due to game circumstances. I'm building Manchester for a one or at most two shot game for my sister-in-law and her husbando, and a chronicle for my D&D group, which includes a complete newcomer who's drifted in off LAbN. As such, I want a classic Prince; Ventrue, conservative, and old/powerful/authoritative enough to be scary, but not older than the Camarilla.
When I was looking around on the ol' Wikipedium, I found that Manchester had been a manorial township and, during the Interregnum, was seat to a major-general (a military governor) who achieved a lot for the Parliamentarian cause... but died young. And his name was Charles. He'll do.
So. Embraced 1656, possibly in London. Probably returned home after the Restoration, and squirrelled himself away as an isolated neonate in a backwater domain that abruptly grew a hundred years later, when our man was catapulted to praxis and did well enough at it.
worked example: choosing your Rack
When I studied in Manchester, on and off for three years, I spent a lot of time on Oxford Road. The top end of that fine, bustling, deathtrap-for-cyclists thoroughfare is home to the Gothic Victorian heartland of the University of Manchester, the sprawling postmodern village of Manchester Metropolitan, and the plate-glass elegance of the Royal Northern College of Music.
Where there are students, there is drinking, and underneath the elevated tracks and platform of Oxford Road station, you will find four boozers: the Thirsty Scholar, the Zombie Shack, the Salisbury and the Grand Central. It's an ideal spot for a thirsty Kindred to hang out at the start of a night.
Dead opposite, however, there's the magnificent Refuge Assurance Building, now home to a gallery, restaurant, florist, hotel (in the clocktower). Brick and terracotta, red as a scar, early Victorian grandeur. Architecture of heft and presence. Grade II listed. Room 261 and a back stairway of the hotel are said to be haunted (child ghosts and a suicidal widow). Screams Ventrue.
So, that's the Rack. I don't know if Shawlands resides up there himself, but his Keeper or Sheriff certainly do: some public official who's as high-and-mighty as the hoi polloi playables are ever likely to meet. Someone who needs to keep an eye on the feeding grounds over the road, and pull the occasional wayward little Kindred up for a chat. Maybe this Ventrue has a feeding restriction to do with scholars; maybe it's all a red herring.
Oxford Road doesn't appear on the map I assembled last week; it sits between the Gay Village and Castlefield, not a formal domain that's been granted to anyone, just there.
If I hadn't known about Manchester from first hand experience, I'd probably have started by looking at listed buildings, concentrations of night life, or specifically looking up the districts. Like, say...
worked example: making a domain
NOMA? Never heard of it. Oh, North Manchester. This is like BoJo or RiRi, isn't it? Something annoying invented by journalists, or something-in-marketings. The former Co-Operative buildings sit at the heart of a massive new development, centred on Angel Square, and its No. 1 building - a giant sliced egg shape in glass and steel.
There's a lot of money being ploughed into what was, when I first lived in Manchester, a run-down area (and I've stayed in some right shiteholes further north still). A few ideas suggest themselves for this area.
Second Inquisition (the sourcebook) pitches Gentrifiers as a hunter archetype, using redevelopments like this to undermine the general state of decay favoured by the Kindred. If my players want to go Anarch, it's tempting to site them on the top side of the city, and have their extant domains be whittled away by these Projects with Money behind them that are outside context problems for the Kindred as a whole.
Alternatively, we could give the Anarchs a leg up for a change; give them Angel Square as their crown jewel, a new domain for the new power, contrasting against the weathered Victorian establishment of the Camarilla in the south. They'd need a bankroll, of course. A Kindred of extraordinary wealth and dynamic vision. What has the Anarch movement recently gained that's lending these qualities as vital infrastructure? The Ministry. And a property developer Setite would be a nice change from the usual smut peddler nightclub owner writhing pliant yearning bodies blah blah blah get an imagination. Hubris, ambition, greed, even an element of the gambler's fallacy in investment. Angel Square - a new Eden, with the Serpents at its heart.
Do that for every district on the Central map, come up with either a single Kindred or a Coterie Type who's doing their thing in that domain, remember to leave space for the players...
... oh yeah, space for the players. Next time, we'll break out my handouts: the player packet and domain guides I like to assemble at the start of a chronicle.
