Cheerleader!Eddie AU pt 2
POV: Chrissy
Part 1
TW: body shaming, eating disorders, abusive family, toxic relationships, drug use
Chrissy knew there was something wrong with her. Of course she did. Not because her mom told her there was, but because her mom told her there was.
A mother shouldn’t comment on her daughter’s weight, or make implications that her daughter’s worth was somehow tied to it. A mother shouldn’t encourage a relationship with a boy who only saw her outside appearance as a trophy to be won, never caring to even notice the red rim to her eyes or the way her smile never reached them either.
Or who never noticed when she didn’t eat at lunch or, the few times she couldn’t stop herself, she always went to the restroom immediately after and came back smelling of mint.
It was too much. All of it was just too much nowadays. She wasn’t happy, she knew that. She played pretend so well that sometimes she thought she was, but when she was all alone with just her thoughts there was no denying the gaping hole in her chest.
It was after one of these times that Chrissy had been unable to avoid eating and had to purge herself in the school restroom that she met him. Eddie Munson.
She’d made certain the girls’ restroom was empty before she pulled the trigger, and then she curled up on the dirty floor unable to take it and let the tears come. Which was, of course, when a decidedly male voice entered whistling and stumbled upon her. She’d heard stories of him before, knew Jason hated him with a passion, as did Tommy and the others.
Yet, despite the rumors of devil worship and criminality, despite being a Munson, Chrissy never once felt unsafe with him. He had looked genuinely concerned, and though his nose had wrinkled at the smell of her sick, he didn’t say anything about it or laugh at her. Instead, he helped her off the floor, holding the marker in his hand and why he was there.
And…she laughed. She giggled at the thought of Marcus getting his comeuppance on a girls’ toilet stall, because…yeah, he wasn’t that nice of a person. She hadn’t known he was the reason that Eddie had a bruise on his face, which only made her dislike of the footballer even greater.
They weren’t friends, her and Eddie, not yet, even if she guiltily told the boy other things he could write on the stall in retaliation, even when one of the things was about Jason. However, that wasn’t the last time they met. He had offered her a discount if she ever wanted weed, told her where to meet up with him if she did, and…she did. She wasn’t certain about smoking, but she felt comfortable with him and…screw it, she was tired of being what other people expected her to be.
Somehow those meetings at the table in the woods became more frequent, even when Chrissy wasn’t buying drugs, using a friends and family discount until Eddie eventually stopped charging her at all. Instead, they hung out, smoked, and talked about anything and everything. Up to and including her relationship with Jason.
When she finally made the decision to dump him, she binged the most she’d ever binged. Eddie was right there with her after, cooing as he rubbed her back and keeping her hair out of her face after, telling her so many amazing things about herself that she didn’t believe, told her things about himself that made her heart ache for him, and he held her as she cried in the bathroom of his trailer.
Things changed after that. She was ashamed he had seen her like that, ashamed that she wasn’t strong enough, but she realized she wanted to be, not just for Eddie, but for herself. So she dumped Jason and took a seat during the next lunch period at the Freak table, head held high. She was done being what people wanted her to be. When she took a bite of her sandwich, Eddie’s warm eyes on her, she took his hand and stayed in her seat the whole of lunch. She wasn’t suddenly better or anything, but it was a start.
Her and Eddie got on like a house on fire after that and, even though it was decided that they did not like each other like that after a disastrous kiss, they didn’t care if anyone else thought they were dating. Their holding hands and hanging all over each other definitely didn’t help.
And then Chrissy needed an emergency. She needed Eddie to stand in with the cheer squad because one of the girls was sick and she had no one else to ask. She batted her lashes and stuck her hands beneath her chin and she knew she had won even before Eddie’s first eye roll. And then it kept happening, and soon Eddie was more or less an official member of the Hawkins High Cheer Squad.
She, of course, thought fair was only fair and joined Hellfire, settling in with the others almost as easily as she had with Eddie. They had been a little taken aback by her homebrewed half-Orc barbarian Uragoth the Undaunted, but Chrissy adored playing as him. Only Eddie knew his backstory that he had had to kill his own Orc mother to prevent her evil from spreading, though she was looking forward to his lore dropping the further into his story they got.
And then Steve happened.
Chrissy’s eyebrows had skyrocketed when she watched that unfold in realtime, not having expected the older boy to be like her friend but…really, there was no denying how often Steve’s eyes were drawn to Eddie when they practiced, or his expression when he teased Eddie about one thing or another. And Eddie flirted back.
Steve hadn’t been the worst of them, despite his kingly status, so Chrissy allowed it to happen. Steve’s best friend, Tommy, was by far the worst, though even Steve had put a stop to a lot of things and everyone had to follow the king’s orders. It helped that her squad had warmed up to Eddie after he proved he was more than what people said about him too, and she thought she was finally getting them to agree to run a one-shot campaign through with Hellfire. It was going to be a surprise for Eddie, who still sometimes doubted the squad even really liked him.
And then they hatched up The Plan. They’d scoured the rulebook first, making certain Eddie couldn’t get in trouble, and then they unleashed him at the championship game in all his skirted glory. Eddie’s goal was to distract the opposing team, but Chrissy’s goal was to get Eddie laid. And maybe a boyfriend.
When Eddie returned to school the next Monday, wearing a deep blush and Steve’s letterman jacket, Chrissy wore a smug expression for the rest of the week.
Steve joined the Freak table, which was quickly becoming a Freak-and-Cheerleader table with how often the squad joined them too, but despite how obviously halfway-in-love the two boys were, Eddie never made Chrissy feel left out. Steve even invited his new best friend to start hanging out with them so Chrissy didn’t feel like a third wheel, some band geek she’d seen around but never spoke to before.
Robin Buckley.
Chrissy didn’t know what she thought about Robin at first. She was sarcastic but quick-witted, and though she hung on Steve as much as Chrissy did Eddie, she never felt alarmed or worried about Steve’s affections being anywhere other than they should. When Robin explained that she and Steve were Platonic soulmates with a capital ‘P’, Chrissy and Eddie could only exchange a grin because…yeah, they got that entirely.
Soon Chrissy and Robin started hanging out more whenever the boys had their solo date nights, or had “double dates” with them where they could be the third wheel together, and Chrissy found she actually really enjoyed the brash girl’s company. A lot. She was smart, and funny, and kind, and she was unapologetically herself, and she fit into their little group like she had been there from the start.
Chrissy did not like, however, when Robin started talking about a girl named Vickie, though she only brought her up when she was talking to Steve alone. That fact alone made Chrissy unhappy. Robin was her friend too, so why didn’t Robin tell her about this apparently new friend of hers also?
Of course, Chrissy didn’t realize that she made a displeased face whenever she heard Vickie’s name being brought up. Eddie noticed, however, and he and Steve would share silent communication.
It all came to a head when, after walking in on Robin complaining to Steve about Vickie having a boyfriend in college, Chrissy may or may not have said something a little snarky about why Robin even cared about that, resulting in a confession Chrissy maybe wasn’t as surprised to hear.
“Because l’m a lesbian, Chrissy!” Robin exploded, throwing her arms out wide as she glared at Chrissy over the sensitive topic. Thankfully, they were at Steve’s house while his parents were out of town, so it was only the four of them there. Steve also took that moment to sneak away back to his boyfriend. “Do you know how hard it is to find a girl to date in this homophobic town?”
“Then date me.”
Chrissy hadn’t intended to say those words, hadn’t even known she thought them, but there was nothing but truth in those three little words. Robin, for her part, just gaped at Chrissy. And, yeah, one of the things Chrissy enjoyed most was how expressive Robin was about everything, how gangly and awkward she could be, and how cute she was when she was shocked.
Grinning a little, Chrissy walked forward and lightly closed Robin’s mouth with the tip of a finger under her chin. She leaned forward, brushing her lips over Robin’s cheek.
“WHAT!” Robin squawked, face flamed red.
Chrissy just giggled, dropping her hand to tangle Robin’s fingers with her own. “Just date me then, Robin. I think I’ve been waiting for that longer than I’ve even realized. Unless you don’t like me like that, then we can just stay as friends I hope.”
Robin shook her head, not in rejection, but in a baffled daze. When she looked at Robin again, her eyes were shining bright and there was a wide smile across her lips. Her fingers tightened on Chrissy’s and Chrissy didn’t know who moved first, but soon she was having her first kiss that sent fireworks across her skin.
Later, when Chrissy and Robin rejoined Steve and Eddie red faced, hair slightly a mess, and hands clasped tightly together, all Chrissy could do was shoot Eddie a raised middle finger at his own smug look.
He was going to be insufferable, she just knew it. But that was fine, because this time she had a girlfriend by her side that she was pretty sure she was already halfway-in-love with too.

chrissy crushing on eddie and trying to spend more time with him, only whenever they hangout steve harrington and/or robin buckley are usually there too. which is fine, its not like she wants to make a move on him yet.
they start hanging out more and more and a month or two later, chrissy is at the quarry with them and while shes trying to get eddie to look at her, she cant get his eyes off steve. steve notices and makes some flirty remark abt, making eddie blush thru his comeback. thats all chrissy needs to realize she doesnt have a chance w eddie, even if he also likes girls, hes completely gone for someone already.
shes fairly disappointed, upset that she got her hopes up for so long. but shes not as emotional abt it as she thought shed be.
she calls robin and tentatively tells her abt it, not naming names in fear of outing eddie and/or steve. after some kicking around the bush, however, robin immediately clocks who shes talking abt.
robin doesnt rly know what to do when chrissy cries, even if its just a few tears, so she just gathers her in a tight hug. they talk it out, and by the end of the night, chrissy doesnt think she needs a boyfriend. robin makes her happier than any boy ever has.
but then she realizes that eddie is her platonic soulmate whom she cannot live without and they talk abt their big gay crushes together🕺💃

Have you watched Stranger Things?
If yes, what are your thoughts about it?
Your favorite characters?
Your ships?
I have seen Stranger Things and I love it!
So, there are some parts that I do have issues with. For example, I really don't like what I have heard about how they treat their BIPOC cast members. I also don't like how they treat their women characters, either.
Like, as a woman, I cannot see any woman being so flippant about a guy taking and developing dirty pictures of her w/out her consent. I will never get over that they had Nancy be okay with that. No real life woman would be so unconcerned about that kind of behavior.
Also, I thought Argyle (Eduardo Franco), was such a fun addition to the cast. I was really disappointed when I heard that they weren't bringing him back. I liked Eddie & Chrissy, too, and I think that they could have been fun longer-term additions, as well.
That being said, of the remaining cast, I love Steve, Robin, Hopper, Joyce, Dustin, Erica, Eleven, Max, & Lucas!
I am a multi-shipper.
However, when it comes to the kids, while I think that some of them would make cute couples, I don't read stories with them as the main pairings.
I honestly think that all the kids should have time when they are in university to go to therapy, be single, and go their separate ways and figure out/find themselves. They are unique individuals & their current situation understandably requires an unhealthy level of codependence.
I'm not saying that they should stop being friends or hanging out. I'm not even saying that they shouldn't end up together one day. I'm just saying that they should branch out, heal, and live their lives to the fullest because you can't fully heal in the same environment in which you were hurt.
All of that aside, I ship:
Joyce/Hopper (they work so well together!)
Steve/Robin (they are Platonic Soulmates & they belong together. I hc that they will eventually be in a QPR when they find out what that means)
Steve/Eddie (I do not care if anyone finds this cringe)
Eddie/Chrissy (I think Eddie & Chrissy had chemistry, but I could also see Chrissy becoming Eddie's Robin. So, I can hc them as either romantic or platonic)
Robin/Chrissy (I love the idea of Robin & Chrissy becoming girlfriends. I think they could work)
Eleven/Max
Lucas/Max
I also like the idea of letting Eleven be asexual/biromantic, or even allowing herself to be single. Women & girls can be happy when single & they do not need to be defined by their relationships. Also, Eleven really needs to find herself outside of her relationships, because she has been robbed of her independence & her free will for her entire life.

It's in the kitchen of their shitty little 1.5 bedroom apartment that Eddie Munson continues to bemoan his roommates request for him to watch the 2024 Olympic Games with her this evening.
“Christine Henrietta Cunningham,” he starts with a sigh, wiping the reminentes of yet another YooHoo from his upper lip, leaning a narrow hip against the countertop's edge, “there is no way in hell you are getting me to watch the Olympics.”
Already wearing her team USA sweater, Chrissy tries to protest. Just as she did last night and the night before. For some reason thinking it's such a dire thing that Eddie watches the Olympics this year.
“First of all, not my middle name. Second-”
“You would literally have to glue my eyeballs open.”
“Second-” she tries again, voice stern, pointing a yellowed spoon in Eddie's direction as she dishes up a bowl of Kraft Dinner for them both.
“There is not now, nor will there ever be, any reason for me to watch juiced up jocks prance around and play any form of sportsball.”
There's so many reasons. Christ. Fuck. So many. But he's not telling Chrissy that. He'll watch the reruns when she's not home. He couldn't possibly be caught dead after last time.
“What about the swim-”
“Not even Gandalf himself,” Eddie interrupts, “-could convince me to waste my precious campaign planning time on such a thing.”
Following Chrissy to the living room, bowl of macaroni in hand, Eddie refuses to sit down next to her on the couch. He's not going to watch. Nope. Maybe sneak a peak in passing? Sure. But not watch. Are you kidding me?
“What a about To-”
The metal spoon that was once in Eddie's hand chatters to the floor as he mock gasps. Neon yellow noodles on the tile that the cat comes running over to clean up, Eddie stands in abject horror. She wouldn't dare.
“Don't you dare say what I think you're about to say, Christine. My 2020 not obsession with Tom Daley shan't be spoken of. It was merely a blip in the system. A glitch in the matrix.”
He still thinks Tom Daley can get it. But that's neither here nor there. And what is there, is simply between Eddie and the well used bottle of lotion next to his bed.
Chrissy rolls her eyes, now sitting with her legs crossed on their ugly ass thrifted couch, patting the cushion next to her as if Eddie's a dog. “Eddie you literally watched every one of his ra-”
Races?
“I did not.”
Okay maybe we wanted to. Who wouldn't? But it's not like he obsessively watched every one of the man's races.
“... I missed two.” He admits Inna whisper.
And what a sheer travesty that'd had been
“Oh yeah. You missed two. Oh Edward, how could I forget?” After patting the cushion mindlessly next to her again and eating a spoonful of macaroni she faux whines, “‘Oh Chrissy, would you record the race for me? I don't want to miss it.’”
He doesn't sound like that.
“I do not sound lik-”
All pathetic and whiney? Eddie Munson doesn't sound like that.
“As if I would believe you actually gave two shits about the races you giant homo.” Chrissy rolls her eyes so hard Eddie's surprised she doesn't hurt her neck, “You just liked seeing those boys in spandex.”
Well…. She's not wrong. Sports are dumb. People playing sports for money is dumb. What the Olympics does to those cities in the aftermath of the event is dumb.
But she's not wrong.
Spandex
“…. I hate you”
“No you don't.” She smiles, blowing Eddie a kiss.
“Um. Yes I do.”
As if he could ever hate Chrissy.
Avoiding making eye contact with her as she continues to pat the cushion next to her and turning heel towards the hall, Eddie decides maybe it's just best to eat his supper in his room. Away from jockey spandex and its temptations, “Anyways. As I was saying. Fuck you and your jocky hobbies Chrissy.” Eddie yells from the hall, “My time is far too valuable to be wasted mindlessly drooling over arrogant jocks and their-”
In a sing-songy voice Eddie hears Chrissy call from behind him, “You're gonna want to watch this!”
He groans, turning back around from the journey he'd just started in the direction of his room, “I would rather di-” only to be caught short when a familiar mole dotted, spandex covered ass makes its way across his TV screen.
He'd recognize that ass anywhere.
Went to every goddamn swim meet at the stupid community pool to see that beautiful ass in motion for years.
He fawned over it in the halls of Hawkins High.
Drooled over it on the odd days he actually attended gym class. Tried to solely avoid eye contact with it when he found it bare and within reach in the change rooms only an hour later.
Fuck.
Eddie's knees feel weak and before he knows it he's climbing over the back of the couch, bowl of macaroni in his lap and mirroring Chrissy's position. Legs crossed. Eyes glued to the TV. Mindlessly eating chemicals that some big corporation somehow manages to pass off as macaroni and cheese.
“Is that Steve Harrington?”
Oh look at those moles.
Beautiful.
Those pecs?
Fucking hell.
“Christine!?” Eddie screeches from his position on the couch when Chrissy doesn't answer, just simply shrugs and smirks at him. The little devil. “Did I just see Harrington?”
“Told you, you'd want to see this.”

@steddiesummerexchange for @chaosgremlinmunson | part 1/3 for easier reading on tumblr, but will be posted as a one-shot on Ao3 later | thanks @stevesjockstrap for beta-reading and mental support 💚

The shop was never busy. Aside from Valentine’s Day and Christmas, it was a lot of goofing around and packing online orders. And since it was pouring on a Tuesday afternoon, they expected no customers until closing, which was more than okay with them. They didn't choose it because it was popular. They chose it because their younger friends were too embarrassed to bother them here.
“It’s getting pretty bad,” Steve points out, squinting through the window. “I don’t wanna drive in this weather.”
Robin looks up just in time to catch a flash of lightning splitting the dark clouds outside.
“Maybe it will let up before we close.”
Thunder crackles above them, and Steve raises his eyebrow skeptically.
“We can wait it out in the pizzeria across the street,” she offers then.
“I like the way you think.”
There’s a loud bang as their doors slam open, letting inside some of the summer storm carnage. Despite the size of the shop, they can feel the cold rain on their faces, and for a second, the sound of the storm is deafening. It cuts off as suddenly as it started but is replaced by loud, displeased sounds of two figures drenched to the bone.
“Holy fucking shit!” a wet rat dripping on their floor curses loudly. He shakes his hands creating a small waterfall down the lapels of his leather jacket. The figure next to him drops down the hood of their jacket with a wet smack.
“Holy shitting fuck,” she agrees.
“They better be selling towels here.”
“Uh...” The unhooded figure, a short blonde, looks around curiously. “I’m afraid not.”
This prompts the guy to peel the wet hair away from his face and look properly around.
“Did we just walk into a fucking sex shop?”
“You did, yeah.”
The two turn to the desk when Steve speaks up.
Next to him, Robin flinches, and he senses something weird from her, like a brain equivalent of an exclamation mark. But he doesn’t think much of it, assuming it might simply be a reaction to the pretty girl in front of them.
“We have a radiator in the back, I could take your clothes to dry,” he offers the newcomers.
“No, we—”
“Are you seriously going back out in this weather?” The girl looks at her friend with raised eyebrows. He scoffs.
“No,” he admits petulantly.
“I can make you guys some hot tea. It’s not like anything is happening here anyway,” Robin pipes up.
“That would be great, thanks.” The blonde lights up gratefully, and Robin squirms.
Stave takes it upon himself to gather their wet things, afraid his friend might combust if she comes any closer to the girl. When he’s hanging the clothes, she is uncharacteristically quiet, so he turns to her and cocks his head.
“What’s up?”
She frowns at the mugs she's pulling out.
“Her.”
"Huh? She’s cute, isn’t she?" He grins.
“I think I could hear her,” Robin clarifies.
Steve straightens up immediately and walks towards his friend. She’s looking back up, worrying her bottom lip under her teeth.
“Do you think they are dating?” He motions to the front of the shop where they can hear the other two talk. She looks at the clothes scattered around the backroom. A denim vest, two black jackets, and a hoodie. Judging by the size and style, they all seemed to belong to one person.
“They could be like us,” he points out, but she doesn’t seem convinced. He isn’t either.
“Or she could not know.”
That would complicate things, wouldn’t it?
After exchanging a few heated looks they trail back to the front and Steve hands the teas to their intruders.
"Thank you." The girl smiles sweetly, though her gaze slides towards Robin.
Steve gives his friend a pointed look but she's too dazed to even flip him off.
"Thanks." The guy blows on his tea, keeping his gaze mostly on the window and the storm outside. "We'll take a look around and won't bother you guys," he says, giving his companion a pointed look before disappearing into one of the sections.
Steve knows it’s bad to stereotype but the assortment of strap-ons is not what guys like this usually go for, and his brain gets whiplash with the sudden onslaught of images he's not proud of. The tall guy wearing black and chains getting pegged by his tiny blonde girlfriend? It kind of suits him. He tries not to think about it.
They give them space to roam around the shop and whisper to each other while they finish their duties for the day and start closing up.
"Guys? We need to close in fifteen minutes!" Steve would feel bad for kicking them out into the storm, but the rain clouds have moved, turning the onslaught into a light drizzle.
It's only after they leave that Steve looks at the tattoo on the palm of his hand. Surprised at what he sees, he shakes it experimentally. The d20 lands back on the same number.
“Hey, look.” He holds it up for Robin to see. “I’ve never rolled a twenty before.”
Three days pass and Steve can't stand it anymore.
He slaps his hand on the counter, making Robin yelp.
“You’re thinking about her again!"
“I’m sorry!”
Steve shakes his head.
“No. Don't care, no sorries," he says with finality. “We’re finding her.”
"We go to the same school!" she protests. "I think. I mean, I'll run into her eventually!"
But Steve won't take that chance, tired of all the sighing from her brain, and decides to find the girl they've met. He figures the easiest place to find high schoolers is at the mall so that's where he goes.
With all the groups of friends and couples passing by, he feels even more like a loser than usual, being there all alone. But he's on a mission, so he won't let that deter him.
That is, until one of the faces he sees in the crowd gives him a pause. It takes him an embarrassingly long time to realize what's familiar about one of the three girls coming at him, but when the memory hits, he panics. Letting his flight response take over, he ducks into the nearest open door to avoid his ex.
After making sure the group has passed him without notice, he lets himself breathe. He's taking in the shop he stepped into, a record store full of tapes, vinyls, and band merch, when a voice startles his adrenaline levels back up.
"Well, well, well. How the tables have turned. Running from a gaggle of women, are we?"
Steve turns to find the metalhead who ran into his shop a few days ago, smirking at him.
"Just one." He shakes his head, instinctively looking back behind the glass door. "Really don't feel like running into my ex right now."
"Must be happening a lot, huh?" The man leans on the counter that separates them. "My friend told me you're quite the casanova."
Steve spots his opportunity and grabs it.
"The girl from the other day?" he asks.
"Yes?" The guy's eyes narrow.
“So you guys are friends?” he adds to clarify before he uncrosses his figurative fingers.
“Yes? Why else would we hang out?”
Steve feels his cheeks heat up under the man's suspicious stare.
“Well, you could be dating.”
The guy snorts.
“Yeah, I don't see the local freak bagging the head cheerleader. The fact that she can even stand me is enough.” Then his eyes narrow again. “Why? You interested in Chris?”
Chris.
“No? Well, kinda, but not… exactly.”
Steve has never felt less smooth in his whole life. And judging by the guy's expression, it shows. Whatever he was trying to sell, he wasn’t buying. His brain scrambles to salvage the situation and comes up with a painfully honest solution.
"Look, I just graduated and my friend group has fallen apart." He yells at his brain-to-mouth wires but keeps going anyway. "And you guys seem chill, I thought the four of us could hang out, or something?"
If the 'you suck' board still existed, he'd fill it out with tallies himself.
The man doesn't seem convinced and he opens his mouth to tear him to shreds probably, but then somebody yells from the back of the store:
"Eddie! A little help, please!"
And the guy, Eddie, gets reminded he's at work.
"Coming!" he yells back, and on his way there, throws Steve a quick string of, "Great seeing you again, we'll think about it, we know where to find you, bye!" before disappearing behind the back door.
After such a disastrous interaction, the last thing Steve wants to do is go back out into the mall full of people. But staying here to risk Eddie looking at him like that again was the more humiliating option. He turns around, planning to lick his wounds at home before reporting his findings back to Robin. For the hundredth time since finding her, he wishes they couldn't read each other minds. Because all he can think of is making a complete loser idiot of himself in front of a cool metalhead dude, and he knows she won't let him live it down. Maybe the Scoops board will make a comeback after this.
“Chrissyyyyyy!”
“Eddieeeeee!”
The rest of the cheer squad does perfectly synchronized eye rolls when their captain jumps down the human pyramid to greet her friend.
“Hi!” She smiles brightly. “You’re early. We’re not done yet.”
“I got some news.” He taps his fingers on the small partition between them, ignoring the cheer practice in progress. “Bad ones and good ones.”
“Bad first,” she says with a decisive nod.
Eddie opens his mouth but then frowns and closes it.
“It won’t make sense if you don’t hear the good news first.”
“Oh my god! Just spill it!”
“So, they’re almost surely not dating.”
“The sex shop guys?”
He nods.
“Okay, and the bad one?”
“Steve seems to be into you.”
“No!” she gasps, scandalized. Eddie snickers.
“Yeah. Sorry sweetie." His smile turns more apologetic.
Chrissy makes a face. Then she keeps making faces until Eddie can’t help but snort and slap her playfully.
“Stop! What are you thinking about?”
“I mean he’s kinda cute, but gives me repressed gay vibes.”
Eddie chokes but she keeps going.
“And his friend? His friend is just hot.”
“Ehh, I guess.” Eddie shakes his palm, making his friend roll her eyes.
“You’ll never understand the beauty of a woman in suspenders.”
“More women in suspenders for you then.” He grins, wiggling his eyebrows.
“Chris! You going back or what?” one of the cheerleaders behind them yells out, barely containing her annoyance.
“I’m coming!” Chrissy yells back. She turns to her best friend, her soulmate, with a dazzling smile. “You joining in?”
“You know they hate it when I do,” he points out.
“And you love it that they hate it.” She smirks like the evil little gremlin she secretly is.
“Fuck yeah, I do.” Eddie grins, climbing over the partition to join the cheerleading squad. A couple of girls groan, knowing what’s coming next but none of them dare to protest. If their captain’s soulmate wants to perform a perfect cheer routine, putting their months of practice to shame, there’s nothing they can do except blame the fates.
Eddie drops his leather jacket on the bleachers and does a couple of stretches in perfect sync with his friend. They grin at each other while mirroring each other’s movements without a word.
“If only you could read my mind during math exams like that,” Chrissy teases.
“Okay, shut up.” He rolls his eyes with fake annoyance. Yeah, it would be convenient, but he got a cheerleading routine memorized in his muscles instead. He’d be complaining if Chrissy wasn’t so fun to be around.
Despite his involuntary knowledge of the routine, none of the other girls fully trust him, so he usually ends up working mostly with Chris, tossing her in the air and catching her when needed.
“You should join us for the game,” she asks as always, after jumping down from his arms.
“I’ll think about it,” he answers as always, patting her head. She huffs, swatting his hand away and fixing up her ponytail, now loose from practice.
“Wanna go grab pizza?” she asks casually and he immediately goes into suspish mode. Chrissy rarely proposes eating out together. Don’t get him wrong, it’s great that his girlie is starting to eat better again, but… He doesn’t let his suspicion show when he asks:
“Sure. Any place in mind?”
She hums, but it’s a short hum. Very 'i-already-had-a-place-in-mind' like.
“The one with the Ninja Turtles poster?”
“You mean the one across the adult toys store?” He raises his eyebrows.
She blushes a fierce red and he knows it’s not because of the sex shop thing. He grins, wide and teasing.
“You wanna see that girl again.”
“Maybe,” she huffs defensively. “Okay, yes, so what?”
“So nothing.” He shrugs innocently. “Grab your things and we’ll go.”
“Yes!” she pumps her hands in victory, a dorky move Eddie’s proud to have taught her, and runs off to grab her backpack. She snatches his jacket before he can, overly eager to get moving. “Let’s go!”
He can’t help but laugh while trotting after her towards his van.
The inside of the store is brighter than they remembered, what with the sky being clear this time. It looks surprisingly normal until you take a better look at the contents of the boxes on display. A sex shop during daylight just lacks a certain ambiance.
The preppy-looking guy behind the counter doesn't match the vibe either.
At the sound of customers, the guy looks up.
"Hello! Oh, it's you guys." He visibly relaxes, realizing it's not his usual run-of-the-mill customers.
"It's us indeed." Eddie smiles, confidently strutting up to the counter. "Has anyone ever told you you look out of place here?"
Steve raises an eyebrow.
"Has anyone ever told you not to judge someone's sex life by their looks?"
Eddie raises his hands placatingly.
"Fair enough, man. I'll back off." However, the comment made him insanely curious about what a guy like that would be into. Behind him, Chrissy gently kicks him in the ankle, prompting him to take a look around. "Alone today?" he asks with a curious tilt of his head.
"Yeah, Robin is tutoring after school today. Why?" His eyes narrow.
"No reason, no reason."
Chrissy kicks him harder and he smiles through the pain.
“What is she tutoring in? I’m having trouble passing the last grade.”
It takes Steve a moment to answer, like he's measuring how much information he can give away.
“Foreign languages.”
The words are barely out of his mouth when Eddie snaps his fingers.
“Perfect! Can I get her number or something?”
The kick is so hard this time it jostles him forward and he glares back at his friend. It also attracts Steve’s attention to Chrissy.
He smiles at her, a bit unsure and shy. It rubs Eddie the wrong way and he can feel his hackles rise.
“Chris, right?”
“Chrissy,” she corrects, slightly scrunching her nose.
“Oh, sorry. It’s nice to see you again, Chrissy.” He smiles, more genuine this time.
“Uh, you too. Steve.”
Eddie clears his throat, hoping to come off as rude as possible.
Steve looks back at him and his expression shifts immediately. It’s almost a scoff.
“Listen, I don’t just give off my best friend’s number to random guys. But if you give me yours, I’ll pass it on.”
“Works for me,” Eddie says with the tightest approximation of a smile he can manage. “Do you have something I can write on?”
Steve looks around for the pen and notepad that are never in their designated spots and never together. He finds them under the keyboard.
“Here.”
But Eddie isn’t taking the items from him. Steve wiggles them like he would attract a pet or a child, but it doesn’t work. He’s about to make a snarky remark when the guy speaks up first.
“You have a D20 tattoo.”
“Huh?”
Steve is losing his mind.
But then he remembers that he does indeed have one and it’s partially visible when he’s holding out a pen like that.
“Ah, right.” He opens up his fingers and shakes his palm, causing the dice to roll. “It’s my soulmate mark.”
“Dude, that’s so dope.” Eddie’s eyes sparkle with marvel and Steve’s throat tightens. “You rolled a twenty, does that mean anything?”
Steve shrugs.
“I don’t know. One of my friends is a Dungeons and Dragons nerd and he told me it’s a luck thing? He freaked out pretty badly when I kept rolling ones on vacation, but nothing happened.” He smiles, fondly remembering Dustin’s panic.
Eddie hums.
“Man, having a functional D20 tattoo would be so fucking cool. I’m kinda jealous here.”
Steve snorts.
“Yeah, Dustin told me that too.”
Eddie finally takes the writing utensils from him, eyeing him contemplatively.
“I’m guessing you’re not a DnD nerd yourself? Considering you get your info from a friend?”
Steve chuckles.
"Yeah, no. Though I do get a lot of brain chatter from my soulmate."
"Brain chatter?" Eddie picks on curiously.
"Uh, yeah. I dream up whole campaigns and know lore I've never really studied. The kids go bonkers over it."
"Kids?"
Eddie's feeling both stupid and entranced by the guy.
"The DnD nerd? Dustin?" Steve says with annoyance that poorly covers up his fondness. "He comes with a full set of other nerds. A party, if you will. They just started high school and no, it's not weird that I know them. I used to babysit them and they just kind of..." He waved his hand. "Stuck on. Like parasites.
Eddie barks out a laugh.
"They sound delightful."
"They have their moments," Steve admits. Then they both stare at the number Eddie has scribbled on the piece of paper handed to him.
"So uh, see you around?"
"Yeah." Steve smiles. It's genuine and pleasant this time. But then, to Eddie's chagrin, he looks to the side. "You too Chrissy. Come over anytime. Maybe you need some tutoring too?"
"Uh, thanks, I'm good. Good luck finding a DnD nerd soulmate," she says, her tone weird. Eddie can't blame her. He wouldn't like being so blatantly hit on either. He could already feel her tugging on his jacket.
"Thank you," Steve says, smile turning a bit wistful. His eyes turn back to Eddie, away from his poor, sapphic-leaning soulmate. Good. He waves the note with the numbers. "I'll let her know you're interested but no promises. And hey, if you're into DnD too maybe you'd be interested in DMing for a bunch of freshmen?"
"I'll think about it," Eddie manages, slowly backing away, the force behind Chrissy's pull increasing. "Thanks, man. And, uh, good luck with the soulmate thing too!"
"Thanks."
The doors close in front of him and it feels like a curtain has just separated him from a whimsical spectacle.
"What the fuck was that?" Chrissy and Eddie ask each other in unison, albeit in vastly different tones.
"Huh?" Eddie frowns at his friend. She had already turned around and was pulling him towards the pizzeria across the street.
"Don't huh me! You forgot I was there!"
"I didn't!" He kind of did. For a teeny tiny second.
"You were clearly flirting with him."
"What? No, I wasn't!" he bristles. He'd know if he was flirting with someone.
She looks back at him sternly when they reach a table of her choosing. She plops down heavier than a tiny cheerleader should be able to and takes on a mocking, high voice.
"Oh man, I'm so jealous of your soulmate. Yes, I will play with your kids. Here's my number."
"I said no such thing," he hisses, sitting down across from her.
"Might as well." She shrugs. "You were interested in him."
"Well, he's an interesting person!" Eddie defends.
"Yeah, the preppy, vanilla high school heartthrob that is clearly not into the same stuff as you, other than his connection to his soulmate," she deadpans back. "Wouldn't have guessed."
"Shut up," he huffs, crossing his arms.
"Eddie, he asked you to hang out with his kids, himself," she points out.
"These are not his kids."
"You're so focused on the wrong details here. Do I have to wingman for you as well? Because I will. Just say the word."
Eddie closes his eyes and sighs. He knows his friend means well but it's just too much.
"Chrissy, stop. I don't need someone who has a soulmate with a matching, kick-ass D20 tattoo waiting for him somewhere. Probably a busty, nerdy girl, too"
"Ew."
"Yeah, I know. He just seems interesting, and honestly? Expanding the party would be cool. So I might take him on the DMing thing I guess. But please, for the love of gods." He makes fierce eye contact with his friend. "No matchmaking. No wingmaning. Or wingwomaning. No setting Eddie up with a probably-heterosexual dude, who is probably into you."
A shudder goes down Chrissy's lithe body.
"Please don't remind me."
"You know what I mean."
"Yeah, I know," she sighs. "I'm really hoping I'm right about his friend." She drums her fingers on the table, biting her lip. "Maybe it's stupid but I feel like it would magically solve everything. He'd get over me, I'd get to bone his friend, and you'd get a new friend with a kick-ass nerd tattoo." She beams at him and he just can't help but laugh at his little ray of sunshine.
"I hope you're right too."

Steve’s eyes popped open and groaned at the light streaming through the window. His head was killing him. He shouldn't have had all that tequila. He suddenly realized that there wasn't anything between him in the sheets, and there were two arms across his chest. He looked over on his left to find a naked Eddie Munson lying next to him. The sheet had fallen off of him, and he had a clear view of his ass. The other arm was coming from his right side. He followed it to find Chrissy sleeping on her side, facing him. The sheet had fallen to her waist, and he could see her breasts very clearly.
"Fuck," Steve muttered.
Memories were starting to come back from last night. It was supposed to be him, Robin, Eddie, and Chrissy, but Robin had to cancel because she was sick. Although, he couldn't remember who's idea idea it was to do tequila shots, but suddenly, they were no longer watching the movie. He remembered their hands in his hair, massaging his scalp, and then the next thing he knew, they were licking salt off his neck. There was kissing. . .Eddie had kissed him first, and then it had been Chrissy.
"I like Nancy, she's pretty. . .pretty great," he remembered Chrissy slurring her words. "But we're going to make you forget all about her."
Steve remembered begging them to tear off his clothes, begging them to do so many things: biting, kissing. . .he even begged them to spank him. He definitely remembered the fucking, too. He tried to sit up without waking them up, but as soon as he moved, it alerted Eddie and Chrissy. Eddie sat up suddenly, gathering all the sheets to cover himself. He yelped when he inadvertently ripped the sheets off of Steve and Chrissy. He looked up at the ceiling.
"Did we - ?" Eddie asked.
"Fuck?" Steve asked, smirking. "Yes, we did."
"JESUS H CHRIST!" Eddie yelled.
"Eddie, baby, volume," Chrissy said with a groan. "Why are you freaking out? We've had sex before."
"Not with Steve!" Eddie shrieked.
"Edward," Chrissy said, rubbing her temples.
"Sorry," Eddie said. "Why aren't you freaking out about this?"
"Well, I thought most people secretly kind of thought other people of the same sex were attractive," Steve said. "I don't think that means we're gay."
"I always thought that!" Chrissy exclaimed happily.
"WELL, WE'RE NOT STRAIGHT, STEVEN," Eddie said and groaned, burried his face into the pillow. "Ugh, I think I pissed off my own hangover. Seriously, Chrissy. . .this doesn't surprise you?"
His head was stuffed into the pillow, so his voice had been muffled. It was amusing to see his bare ass sticking high up in the air like that.
"Well, you practically drool over Steve like he's a well-done steak and then, of course, there was that time that you called out his name when we were in bed together," Chrissy said. "You're not as mysterious as you think you are, babe."
"I never noticed anything," Steve frowned.
"Well, we weren't on the map for you at the time. You were trying to get over Nancy," Chrissy said.
"Fuck Nancy," Steve grinned and then frowned. "I mean not fuck her, you know, or fuck her. . .because she's my friend now, too, so. . .ah, you know what I mean."
Chrissy and Eddie giggled. They fell into a comfortable silence as Eddie inched down onto the bed like a worm.
"You okay, baby?" Chrissy asked Eddie.
"Do you need a minute, man? I get it if you do," Steve said.
"Yeah, I think I need a minute," Eddie groaned.
"Okay, well, I think I need coffee, and I'll whip us up something simple," Steve said and kissed his forehead.
He slipped out of bed, watching as Chrissy slid over to Eddie, whispering his ear and kissing his forehead as well. Chrissy rolled out of bed and slipped on one of Steve’s sweaters.
"I'll come help," Chrissy said.
Steve smiled. His blue sweater really brought out the color of her eyes, and it contrasted nicely with her strawberry blonde hair. She was beautiful. . .they both were. Chrissy took his hand and led him out of the room, giving Eddie a moment to himself to process all of it. Even with the hangover pounding away at his skull, Steve couldn't stop smiling as Chrissy helped him cook.
"So, you always thought about men and women, too?" Steve asked Chrissy.
"Yeah, I thought that was normal for everyone," Chrissy said.
"Well, I think that it's normal for people like us," Steve said. "You did say Nancy was pretty last night."
"Okay, so maybe I had a crush on her when she was on the squad," Chrissy said. "And then again briefly after everything that happened. So, I totally get why you had to get over her twice."
"Nancy Wheeler is definitely hard to get over," Steve said with a smile.
"Tell me about it," Chrissy grinned. "You weren't exactly easy to get over when I had a crush on you, too. I don't think I ever did."
"You had a crush on me?" Steve asked.
"Still do," Chrissy grinned.
"Well. . .I'm glad you never got over me," Steve said, and he smiled at her, bumping her hip with his.
Breakfast and coffee had just gotten done when Eddie stumbled into the kitchen. He was wearing Steve’s yellow sweater and nothing else. His hair was fluffed out around him like a messy dark halo. He wandered over to them. Eddie placed one hand on Steve’s hip and the other hip on Chrissy's, pressing himself up against them. He squeezed them tightly.
"You guys just go ahead and steal all of my clothes then," Steve said teasingly.
"Okay," Chrissy giggled.
"How are you doing, Eddie?" Steve asked.
"I'm very well done," Eddie said and kissed Steve’s cheek, causing Steve to giggle.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
Robin's voice startled him out of his thoughts. It was two days later, and he was back at Family Video. Steve blinked, blushed, and continued stacking the video tapes.
"What do you mean?" Steve asked.
"I thought you had been cursed for a moment, but then you started grinning like an idiot," Robin said. "I'm pretty sure you scared that old lady and her granddaughter."
"What old lady and her granddaughter?" Steve asked.
"You just talked to them for like ten minutes!" Robin exclaimed.
"Oh, yeah, them," Steve said.
"Okay, did you meet someone?" Robin asked.
"No. . .," he trailed off.
"But you hooked up," Robin said.
Steve wasn't sure why he didn't just tell her right away. Eddie and Chrissy were more than happy for him to tell Robin. Especially since she knew about him. Steve has brought it up several times that he likes men and women with Robin.
"It wasn't intentional. . .we had a little bit too much tequila, and then one thing led to another. . .it was a happy accident," Steve grinned.
"I thought you weren't interested in meaningless sex anymore," she said.
"It definitely wasn't meaningless," Steve said. "It meant something to all three of us."
"Ugh, you had a threesome?" Robin asked. "What girls did you have a "meaningful" sexscapade with?"
"That's a little judgemental even for you," Steve said, raising an eyebrow at her. "And why would you assume that it's two girls?"
Steve paused and glanced around. Yeah, the place was still empty. He glanced back at Robin, who was looking at him in confusion.
"Are you telling me that Steve Harrington, notorious ladies man, had sex with a woman AND a man?" Robin asked in disbelief.
"I don't know why you're surprised by this," Steve said. "You've known this about me."
"The hell I did!" Robin shrieked.
"I told you about the times I fooled around with some of my friends!" Steve exclaimed.
"I assumed they were girls!" Robin exclaimed.
"Yeah, okay, that might be on me. I don't think I used any pronouns," he frowned. "Okay, what about the time I went on a rant about how cute I think Tom Cruise is?"
"I thought that you were just exaggerating about how much you loved Tom Cruise and that it was one of those scenarios where if you were into men, it would be him. And you actually said that," Robin said.
"Okay, that might be on me again," Steve said. "Okay, but what about that time that I made out with that guy at that bar?"
"That was a guy?!" Robin shrieked.
"Okay, from behind, I can see why you would think he was a girl," Steve said, and then he frowned. "Wait a minute, I told you his name was James."
"I thought you said Jamie," Robin said. "Okay, that one might be on me."
"Robin, okay, I literally told you that I would have sex with anyone," Steve said.
"You did not specify that it meant men!" Robin exclaimed.
"Robin!" Steve exclaimed and slammed a tape down. "We ran into a newly reformed gay Tommy in the grocery store a while back, and we both literally told you that we used to roll around in the hay!"
"I didn't know that was a euphemism!" She shrieked.
"I told you that Vickie might be like me!" Steve told her.
"I thought you were talking about the fact that you and Vickie like Fast Times," Robin said and paused. "Okay, yeah, that one might be on me, too. Steve?"
"Yeah?"
"Are we both dinguses?"
"Yeah, I think so," Steve said.
"Okay. . .suddenly, everything is making fucking sense," Robin said and shook her head. "So, these people that you meaningfully slept with. . .do you think it might become serious?"
"Yeah," Steve said, biting his lip. "I think so. They figured I would tell you, so they're okay with this. It's Eddie and Chrissy."
"Well, it's a good thing that I canceled," Robin said and paused. "You three really make so much sense. You spend so much time with them already."
"So. . .still feeling down since Vickie moved away?" Steve asked.
"No, actually, things are looking up," Robin said, blushing. "I mean, I'll always miss her. She was my first girlfriend, but I got that she wanted to be with her dad, especially after his mother died. We're friends now, though, or getting there, anyway."
"Is there someone else?" Steve asked.
Robin sighed with relief as the bell above the door rang. Eddie and Chrissy bounced into the store.
"Slow day?" Eddie asked.
"It's looking up," Steve smiled.
"Judging by the way that Robin is looking at us, she knows," Eddie said, looking amused.
"Oh, yeah, and now she knows for sure that I'm not straight," Steve said.
"I thought she knew," Chrissy said.
"Yeah, I thought she knew, too," Steve said.
"I'm. . . I'm a dingus," Robin said. "I'm happy for you, guys."
"Thanks," Eddie said, laughing.
"We really missed you," Chrissy said and kissed Steve.
Eddie gave a look around the store before giving Steve a quick kiss as well.
"It's been two days," Steve blushed.
"The heart wants what it wants," Eddie grinned.
Robin smiled and moved to stand behind the counter.
"You up for a break yet?" Chrissy asked, biting her lip as she slipped a hand into his back pocket.
"Not yet," Steve said. "Soon, though."
"Damn, we came prepared to have our way with you," Eddie said and cupped Chrissy's face, squeezing her cheeks. "How can you say no to this face?"
"It's the rules," Steve said as Eddie put his hand in Steve's other back pocket.
"Fuck the rules," Eddie whispered in his ear.
"Look, just because I know about this and is more than okay with it doesn't mean that I want to want to watch you two fuck my best friend in the place where we work."
"Boo," Chrissy laughed.
"Come on, Chrissy, let's look for a movie, and Steve can admire us from afar," Eddie said.
Steve smiled as he watched them walk away. He felt very giddy. He bit his lip as he finished up stacking the video tapes.
"I don't know how you're getting any work done today," Robin said.
"Tell me about it," Steve said as he moved back to the counter with Robin, his eyes following his partners' movements.
"Oh, you're done for already. Smitten like a kitten," Robin said. "I like seeing this on you."
"Me too," Steve said.
"You know, I never thought you'd ever move on from Nancy," Robin said.
"I think a little part of me will always be there, but I'm glad we got to be together one last time. I feel like we both got the closure we needed," Steve said.
"Really?" Robin asked.
"Oh, yeah," Steve said.
"I wasn't sick!" Robin blurted out.
"What?" Steve asked.
"When I was supposed to hang out with you three. . .I was really hanging out with Nancy," Robin said.
"Nancy?" He asked.
"Yeah," Robin said, looking at him nervously. "Nothing happened! I doubt it will because I don't she'll ever feel the same way about me. . .but I wanted to see if you would be okay with it if something ever did happen."
"Robin, you don't need my permission," Steve said, looking worried.
"Of course, I don't need your permission. This isn't about that. It's about loyalty. If I can't take your feelings into account over something as important as this and treat them as something that matters, then how can I possibly do the same thing with a romantic partner? Their feelings need to be just as important as yours because you mean the world to me, Steve Harrington," Robin said. "And I don't want to be with anyone who doesn't understand that. Vickie understood it, and now, I think Nancy does, too."
"I love you, Robin, and there's always going to be this part of me that will love Nancy, but I think you two would be great together," Steve said. "It kind of makes sense that we would end up falling for the same girl."
"It really does," Robin sniffled. "I'm madly, platonically in love with you, dingus."
"I'm madly, platonically in love with you, too. . .dingus," Steve said, and she laughed.
"And you know, if things do fall apart. . . Then we'll always have each other, right?" Robin asked.
"Right. . .I don't think you're going to get any work done today," Steve smirked.
The bell above the door rang, and Nancy came in. She beamed at Robin, who smiled bashfully. Steve grinned. Look at them. . .getting a happy ending. It was one that neither one had expected, but it was definitely the happiest of accidents. Thank god for Tequila.

Hellcheer and Stobin are both beautiful, shining examples of queer platonic soulmates.
Except Eddie and Chrissy make out all the time while Steve and Robin kissed one time because of a dare and both immediately started scrubbing their tongues and fake gagging

i keep seeing all these soulmate aus where when you turn 18 your soulmates name appears somewhere on your body yada yada ...
however, i want to see one where their true name appears. like stevie harrington appears somewhere on eddie/robin (personally i think robin should always be the (platonic) soulmate), but steve hasnt realized hes trans yet or just hasnt come out. so eddie/robin is just rly confused.
OR ALTERNATIVELY
eddie munson appears on steve/chrissy (again, i lean towards chrissy being his platonic soulmate) when theyre kids, but eddie is still eden munson or something. so theyre just confused and assume its someone else that happens to have the same last name or something.
did any of that make sense? 😭 i just think it would be neat

platonic hellcheer soulmate au where they have such a dilemna of finding partners when they've already found their soulmate. it's rare to find your soulmate and no one wants to get between any of that.
when they meet stobin, who are in the exact same boat, they get reluctant. it's so rare to find someone who understands that they don't want to lose their friendships.
unfortunately for them, steve is having none of that and he's not letting robin accept that either. they know the attraction is mutual and they make plans to be both reassuring and wooing.
the plans fail but they both end up in a loving relationship so steve is going to count it as a win.

Thanks to the @strangerthingswritersguild for the prompt and @eyesofshinigami for the brain worm 🪱 our conversation created.
Did you know in fan fic writing the term Rubber Ducking refers to bouncing ideas off of each other/ brainstorming with friends? Well I didn't. I thought it was a sex thing.
From that, this idea was born.
Rubber Ducking | M | 873 WC | Steddie | Buckingham
It was a cold February night when the first sighting occurred. The air in the apartment had felt different. Charged with an electricity Robin couldn't explain.
Something was happening. And at first she had thought it was an anomaly, then maybe a coincidence.
But then it kept happening.
Those black empty eyes met hers and mere hours later the sound of the city was lost to the wails of the night.
It sounded like torture.
Like the stripping of flesh and bones.
But even more horrifically, Robin learned it was anything but.
Sure, there was flesh and bone, but how Steve apparently getting absolutely railed by Eddie in the next room over had any connection to the rubber ducky that ended up on the living room coffee table every so often, Robin hadn't the slightest clue.
She just knew that unfortunately there had to be one.
A few weeks later, sitting at the breakfast bar and trying to ignore the low hanging neckline of Chrissy's already frankly obscene tank top, Robin notices the presence of yet another rubber ducky.
This one donning a Sailor's hat and suit. Similar to the one she remembers her and Steve wearing in their days at Scoops Ahoy.
Not twenty minutes later she's met with Eddie asking if she knows where Steve hid his old uniform. Regrettably she tells him, and that night goes to bed taking precautionary measures with foam plugs in her ears.
The following week there's a light blue ducky on the coffee table instead, then a grey ducky the week after. Then after a few more weeks there's what appears to be a leather daddy ducky.
Sometimes in between there's a plain normal rubber ducky.
“You figure it out yet?” Chrissy asks one evening, plopping down onto the couch next to Robin and setting her feet in her lap.
God what she wouldn't do for this girl and her polka dot pink fuzzy socks.
Looking over at the boys who are now apparently disgustingly in love, and currently trading lazy kisses and giggles back and forth in the loveseat, Robin sighs, “Unfortunately.”
She nearly had the code cracked before a drunken Steve had told her what it all meant.
Original Ducky = Someone is horny.
Sailor Ducky (Sir Butterscotch) = Someone wears the Scoops uniform.
Light Blue (Richard) = Someone wants to give / receive head.
Grey (Bari) = Someone wants to be tied up/do the tying up.
Leather Daddy = "You really don't want to know Robin.”
So essentially flagging, she figures, but with various types of rubber duckys, which is horrific in its own way.
Now when one of them is feeling it, they pick a rubber ducky of their choosing and leave it out on the coffee table as a subtle way of asking for the represented attention.
“Sex Duck,” Robin sighs, leaning her head against the back of the couch, turning to look at Chrissy, “They have a fucking sex duck.”
“Like that show with the sex mug?”
“Like the show with the sex mug.” She answers flatly
Sure seeing the ducks at home was bad enough, but when they started appearing in the wild it was so much worse.
First in Steve's car on the dash, then Eddie's van, then one day at work when Eddie came sauntering in and pulled a light blue ducky from his pocket, tossing it in Steve's direction before walking off towards the employees only bathroom.
They think they're subtle, but really they're not.
It's just another Tuesday evening when a new ducky makes its way onto the coffee table in the living room. Traditional like the first, but donning a pink bow and black painted on lashes. Feminine. Cute.
Like a game, Robin's began trying to decipher the meaning behind every duck before Steve inevitably tells her. It helps her cope with the trauma.
This one though, makes her wonder.
Sitting on the couch staring probably a little too intensely at the newest addition to the boys collection, Robin hardly notices when Steve plops down beside her.
She startles when she notices him, his voice catching her off guard. “Whatcha doing?”
“Trying to figure out what kink of yours this little lady represents.”
Steve hums and Eddie joins them shortly after, settling in the rocking chair across from them, giving the ducky the same odd look Robin had been moments ago.
“Whatcha doing, Buck?”
She gestures to the duck, “Figuring out her deal.”
Feminization maybe?
“Chrissy?” Eddie asks
“What?” Robin looks up from those cute long lashed eyes, “No. Your duck.”
Next to her Steve huffs a laugh, crossing his arms and leaning back against the couch. “Not our ducky, Rob.”
What?
“Course it is.”
“Not our ducky, Babe.” Eddie repeats Steve's words.
It has to be. “Well it's not mine.” Robin grumbles.
“No, no Rob it's not.” Steve nudges Robin's knee with his, “Maybe it's meant for you though.”
No.
No?
Looking far too excited, Eddie smirks, “Chris is in her room isn't she?”
Well… it… it wouldn't hurt to check would it? Maybe the boys are just teasing her, playing a game. But on the off chance they're not…
“You gonna go get your girl, Rob?”
Jesus Christ, she's going to, isn't she?

He knows he has to tell Chrissy as soon as possible, but she'll have to wait. There's someone else he has to go through first.
He kicks off his shoes, hangs up his jacket, and accepts his fate.
"So, not a word, but I got a new tattoo."
Wayne turns away from the TV, raising one bushy eyebrow at his nephew.
"Thought you were playing DnD today."
Eddie nods his head, sways on the balls of his feet, and sighs.
"I was," he admits, and holds his hand up, palm facing his uncle.
He observes in real time as the realization hits his beloved relative and an infuriating grin spreads on his face.
"I said not a word!"
"I'm not saying anything." Wayne raises his hands innocently, the satisfied grin on his face making his wrinkles contort in joy.
"I gotta call Chris," Eddie grumbles, making a beeline for the phone. His uncle's amused gaze doesn't leave him for a second.
Chrissy is, needless to say, ecstatic. She makes plans to get ready together faster than he can explain the situation. It ends with him digging deep into his wardrobe the next day.
"I don't have any good jeans!" he exclaims, showing his friend another pair.
"Well, I want to see all of them anyway, so I can choose the ones that give you at least an illusion of an ass," she explains patiently, sitting on his bed and doing nothing else but judging.
"Rude," he murmurs, but he's aware his ass is as flat as a wooden plank so he doesn't argue. "What if he's a platonic soulmate too? What if I'm misinterpreting things again?"
"Please don't remind me." Chrissy shudders and Eddie makes a face of his own. When they first found each other, there were a couple of unsuccessful attempts at kissing before they realized they were strictly platonic. "Then he'll have to fight me because I'm not sharing. He already has his platonic soulmate, we're all due for some action."
"You know, as much as I know you," Eddie says, pulling out another pair of pants from under a pile of winter clothes. "It never ceases to amaze me how nasty you are."
"You're nasty," she throws back. "Now put these on, I wanna see some ass."
His outfit looks the same as always, with a couple of minuscule differences Chrissy insists are making a change. His pants are charcoal, not black, and his ass is almost noticeable in them, and his shirt is one of the shorter ones. If he moves his arms the right way, a sliver of his stomach will show. He barely wins the battle for his hair, though.
"We can't have the same hair!" he protests when she describes what she wants to do - a ponytail with some loose strands. She pouts, with torture devices already in hand: a brush and a scrunchie.
"I'll let my hair loose," she offers, surprising him. She always complains about hair getting in her face when it's not tied back.
"You're that determined, huh?"
She nods her head furiously.
"Fine," he sighs. "Do your worst."
In the end, he doesn't look bad, but also not exactly like he tried. Just a cleaner version of his daily look. He gets a stink eye from his friend when he throws a leather jacket over it but she doesn't say anything. She knows he doesn't have many to choose from.
They drive to the mall, where they are planning to grab ice cream before going to the cinema. When the pairs spot each other at the entrance, Steve seems to take extra joy in waving to Eddie. The dice on his palm rattles and so does Eddie's when he waves back. They both land on twenties.
Despite it all starting because of the girls, it was their first official hang-out together, so the boys hung back to give them some space. And to observe the intense stare Robin was giving Chrissy's hand, like she was too overwhelmed to touch it. Eddie could tell that Steve was barely holding back a laugh.
"What are we seeing," Eddie asks when Steve wins the fight at the register and pays for his chocolate cone.
"Some comedy about aliens. Or, there's also a romcom we can switch to."
"Nah." Both Robin and Eddie stick out their tongues with disgust.
"Well, sci-fi comedy it is."
They chat a bit at the ice cream place, mostly watching Robin and Chrissy's attempts at flirting, before moving on to the ticket booth. When Steve asks for two double seats away from each other, something must show on Eddie's face, because Steve smirks at him.
"For privacy," he says, reaching out to gently trace the outside of his hand with his fingers.
Eddie has to be pushed towards the theatre after that, too floored to move. He panics a little when separated from his soulmate, who is too engrossed in her crush to even notice.
"Hey." Steve tugs gently on the cuff of his jacket. "Relax, I'm not going to eat you. I won't even touch you if you don't want me to." He seems disappointed by that prospect but his tone is soft and genuine. Eddie knows he can trust him so he twists his wrist to squeeze his hand gently.
"It's okay. I'm just still a little surprised by it, is all," he reassures him.
"Okay." Steve squeezes back. "Just tell me if I'm too much."
"Sure."
He doesn't have to say anything, because he can barely sense his presence next to him. Other than them putting up the armrest to press their shoulders together, and Steve brushing against his hand from time to time, he doesn't press further. Eddie, though, is getting antsy, and having Steve next to him proves to be just a part of this problem. Halfway through the movie, he leans closer to his companion.
"You're never picking the movie again."
Steve groans quietly. It sounds like he's relieved.
"I know, I'm sorry," he admits his mistake. "It looked good in the trailer."
"They are supposed to look good." Eddie points out. "Wanna leave?"
Steve hesitates. They both look at where their friends are sitting. The girls are leaning towards each other though facing the screen, probably roasting the movie to shreds.
"They seem fine, I guess," Steve reluctantly agrees. Eddie stands up without further prompting and gently leads him through the dark, down the steps, and to the exit.
The light in the hall blinds them for a second but Eddie doesn't drop his hand, half-blindly pushing forward.
"Gotta use the bathroom. Then we can grab a bite or something."
"We should wait for the lovebirds," Steve protests.
Eddie rolls his head to the side, not sharing the sentiment.
"I don't know, they seem fine without us."
"But it's a double date," Steve presses.
"Okay Harrington, we can just hang around the mall I guess. Until that sad excuse of a movie ends." He gives in, shaking his head.
Steve seems happy with getting his way, which weirdly makes Eddie feel the same.
They ease their grip on each other only when they reach the bathroom. Without a word they enter stalls far away from each other, figuring the urinals would make it too awkward. When they are washing their hands minutes later, Steve gives him a grin through the mirror.
"We have the bathroom all to ourselves, you know?"
Eddie raises an eyebrow, something in his gust twisting with nervous anticipation.
"Yeah? You wanna murder me or something?"
"Uh, no?" Steve's smile falls. "I just— Sorry, that was stupid. Forget I said anything," he sighs, threading his fingers through his perfectly coiffed hair.
Eddie turns sideways to face him, his hip digging into the sink.
"You know, Chris and I tried dating for like a week after we found out. Kissing her felt wrong, like I was kissing my sister, but we were both convinced we were interested in each other like that."
Steve makes a face.
"Yeah, I was so sure I had a crush on Robin for a while. But then she said she's strictly into girls and we quickly realized we're twins separated at birth." He smiles. "So I uh, understand why you'd want to feel things out first." He nods.
But Eddie bites his cheek.
"That is the opposite of what I'm saying."
Steve cocks his head, brows furrowed. He has mirrored Eddie's stance, leaning against the sink.
"What are you saying?"
"Yeah, I do wanna feel things out, but I think kissing would be most efficient."
Steve doesn't hide the smile that grows on his face. Eddie bristles at that, mostly from anxiety and embarrassment. He chuckles nervously.
"Okay, your excitement scares me a bit. You really wanna kiss me that bad?"
"I don't think you realize how kissable you are." Steve shifts a bit like he's getting ready to pounce. "Can I?"
"Be my guest." Eddie waves his hand and straightens up himself, his minimal experience making him unsure of the proceedings.
He's expecting a straightforward kiss, but it's not what he gets. Steve slides closer, his heavy hand landing on his side. His face is right there, but instead of his lips, there is a feather-light touch on his nose, where Steve gently traces it with the tip of his own, inhaling his skin. Eddie breathes softly and okay holy shit there goes the first soft peck on his lips. Then another. And two more, until he's softly murmuring "Stop teasing" against them, prompting Steve to capture his lips in a proper kiss.
There's nothing of the confusion from his kisses with Chrissy. This time the emotions are easy to pinpoint and decipher. They grow like an itch at the tips of his fingers, eager to touch, and he indulges by wrapping his arms around the man in front of him. They take a couple of wobbly steps towards the wall until Eddie can comfortably lean against it, trapped between cold tiles and Steve's warm body.
"Does it feel platonic?" Steve leans back to ask, his hand sneaking under his jacket to slide over his hip, scorching hot without the thick layer of leather.
"My dick says no," Eddie answers, making Steve snicker.
"Well, my dick agrees with yours."
They look into each other's eyes, a new form of understanding weaving between them, a bond more complex than the matching tattoos on their palms. They are each other's and there is nothing platonic about it.
Eddie muffles an unsexy sound of laughter, held back in his throat. Steve's lip wobbles.
"Maybe they should touch, they might be soulmates too."
The dam bursts, and they start laughing uncontrollably.
"Oh my god," Steve wheezes out, leaning heavily on Eddie. "You're so stupid."
"You're stupid," Eddie counters between laughs, shoving him before wrapping his arms back around him. Their tight embrace is the only thing holding them up while they laugh against each other.
They barely register the sound of the door opening, but catch the movement with the corners of their eyes. They turn in unison and spot a guy, frozen in shock by the sight of them: two guys holding one another up in a fit of laughter. The three men look at each other in silence, until Eddie squeaks and it starts all over. The man runs into the stall furthest away.
Eddie shoves Steve away, and Steve shoves back. They start a half-hearted slapfight until Steve catches his right hand, the one with the tattoo, and kisses the inside of his palm. Eddie's eyes go wide.
Steve grins and skips out of the bathroom.
"Hey!" Eddie calls after him, quickly following. "Not fair!"
The girls find them lounging on the sofas in front of the theatre, poking each other with Twizzlers. Or maybe feeding each other. The scene is unclear, but the wide smiles on the men's faces are unmistakable.
"Twizzler?" Steve offers to his soulmate while poking Eddie's cheek with the candy. The man catches it with his teeth and tries to pull it from his grasp.
"Sure, thanks." Robin grabs one from the pack without batting an eye. "I get it the date was a success?"
"Was yours?" Eddie asks back, looking at Chrissy with a Twizzler hanging from his mouth.
"Yeah." She grins, hip-checking Robin.
The girl blushes, chewing on her candy intensely. She's avoiding Steve's gaze but his stare only intensifies. He's basically peeling his eyelids back to burn a hole in her forehead with his eyes only.
"Did you guys kisssss?"
"Robin. Robin. ROBIN. Don't ignore me."
"I know you can hear me. ROBIN!"
She flinches when he mentally yells at her and he raises an eyebrow now that he has her attention. She glares at him.
"We did. Did you?"
He smiles smugly.
"Duh."
She snorts.
The exchange doesn't go unnoticed by their other soulmates.
"What was that about?" Chrissy asks first with a frown. But before any of them can answer, Eddie suddenly grips Steve's knee.
"Holy shit!"
Steve looks at him. Eddie's eyes are wide and full of awe, which is becoming his favorite expression on the man.
"Can you read each other's minds?!"
"Uh, yeah," Steve admits, suddenly sheepish about the ability he's been so happy to have. And which impressed the little nerds to no end. And the big nerd too, apparently. If the way he started shaking his knee was anything to go by.
"Steve! My man! My soul!" Steve can't help but laugh at his exaggerated antics. "Magic tattoo? Mind reading? What other freaky shit can you do?"
"Well, the mind reading is more Robin than me..."
"Still!"
"...and the other freaky shit I don't show on the first date." He grins cheekily.
Eddie's mind goes blank for a second, his excitement freezing as he reboots and processes what he just heard. Steve's grin only widens. He might like this reaction even better.
Robin makes a retching sound, as she does, so he flips her the bird, as he does. Chrissy, though, has an evil smile that lets him know she'll be a great co-schemer in making Eddie squirm.
"Uh-huh." Eddie's mind has rebooted by now, so he looks back to him. "Next date when, then?" he asks. He tries not to look too eager but fails miserably.
"I'm free tomorrow?"
"Perfect." Eddie grins at him. Steve picks his hand up from his knee and gives the tattoo there a gentle kiss. He bites back a smile at the soft gesture.
"Do you guys have any soulmate abilities?" Robin asks, always the mood ruiner. She makes another dive for the candy and Steve lets her have the bag. He'd rather hold Eddie's hands anyway. They're a bit sticky from the Twizzler fight, but he doesn't mind. Maybe he should lick them clean...
"Well..." Chrissy trails off, and it immediately picks up his curiosity.
"Don't say it," Eddie hisses at her, eyes narrowed. She shrugs with a teasing smile.
"They're gonna find out anyway. Besides," she pouts and gives him her best puppy eyes. (Steve is very impressed, after all, game recognizes game.) "Are you ashamed of our bond?"
Eddie seethes.
"I fucking hate you," he says, but doesn't stop her from saying what she wants to. He just looks away and Steve observes his cheeks going progressively redder.
"Eddie knows my cheering routine by heart."
Eddie makes a displeased sound in his throat and refuses to look back at him.
"Really?" Robin sounds impressed. "So you guys can perform together?"
"Yup. And we do. My cheer squad fucking hates it."
Steve can't help but imagine him among the cheerleaders, in a matching dress. It would show off most of his hairy thighs, and his long legs. He'd have to tie his hair up like today so they don't go in the way while he's jumping and cheering for Steve's team, pompom's shaking, skirt flipping up when he spins—
"Where the fuck did your mind just go?" Eddie's voice brings him back to reality. His face is still red, but his eyes are now narrowed in an attempt to look threatening.
"Can I see it?" he asks in lieu of an answer, though it's probably enough to clue him in. "In a cheer outfit, preferably?"
Eddie starts to sputter out protests, but Chrissy grins mischievously at Steve.
"I can make that happen."
He knew he was going to love her.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ROMANCE
Pre-season 4. Do you think Robin had Steve do the twin thing and go into school to take a test for her? She was sick as a dog and didn't know what she was asking him, but she was his platonic soulmate, and he loved her. Plus, it was his day off, and he was bored. So, he dresses up as her: wig, makeup, and all. No one notices. . .until a certain class she shares with Eddie, and he's like. . . ??? He doesn't give Steve away, though. Vickie clocks him immediately and makes up an excuse for him not to play. Steve managed to avoid Mike, Dustin, and Lucas because he never would have heard the end of it. . .or did he? When Mike sat down at lunch, he asked Dustin why Steve was here dressed at Robin. . .Dustin immediately pulled his first kid out and tried to take his temperature.
"Mike! Hold still! You're sick. . .because why would STEVE BE HERE DRESSED AS ROBIN!"
Later, Steve does run into Chrissy, but it doesn't phase her. They used to hang out back in the day along with Nancy. Also, they used to play dress up when they were little, and their parents ran in the same circles. Eventually, he does run into Nancy, who's also unbiased because they used to share lipgloss when they were together. They'd greet each other so casually, and Nancy would guess that he's bored on his day off.
Anyway. . .this is up for grabs. Choose who anyone wants to be with or insert yourself or an original character. This is for anyone. . .and for multiple people to write different versions.
