bruce found her half dead on patrol one night and called selina in a panic about what to do, they named her chewy

ace loves chewy, she sleeps on his head, bruce has an entire folder on his phone dedicated to pictures of them

had a robin hood phase when he was 6, tried to steal from his parents to give to people in need

alfred continually reminds him of this after he takes in dick

his favourite rogue is ivy, they have important conversations (as in ivy talks and bruce hngs) about climate change while bruce tries to stop her from murder

he implements policies build after her ideals into wayne enterprise

his respect for her rises after she gets together with harley

for all that he fights it, he can't sleep without the sound of gotham - which includes gotham typical crime

he thrives when he's alone, it's how he does his best work, be it batman or wayne enterprise

has trouble admitting defeat, dick joining him as robin helped him in that department a great deal

is pierced. he did almost all of them himself, alfred has a heart attack everytime he spots a new one

the public has a weird badboy image of him, bruce has no idea where it came from

doesn't bruise easily but is still constantly in pain

has an absolute shit posture, social anxiety and crime fighting don't help

sleeps in the worst positions humanly possible

has a weird thing about mirrors, avoids them as much as he can

doesn't give interviews ever, it's part being a social recluse, part everything the press did to his parents, part hating to be perceived

has troubles with empathy, but his compassion makes up for it in great detail

dick uses him as a jungle gym, he pretends to be annoyed but secretly loves it

when bruce is working on cases in the cave, dick hangs head down off of bruce's back with his legs over bruce's shoulders

dick claims it helps him think, bruce knows it's because he doesn't want to be alone

bruce loves the relationship dick and selina have, might be a little jealous that cat got through to the boy much faster than him though

after taking in dick, bruce makes sure to show alfred that he actually does see him as a father figure - regrets all the times he told him that alfred's not his father

“bruce who doesn’t really laugh at things out loud like that really, he’s more of a nose exhale, brief grin and intense eye contact conveying his emotions” type of guy but sometimes

something will happen that constitutes, his full on body laugh and when its an instinctual thing it’s so rare that bruce doesn’t have a failsafe for that reflex and the person they’re with just,, stops

because the laugh they’re so used to can’t be compared to this genuine deep, heavy with emotion and feeling laugh that fills his lungs and your soul- and they just wish he would do that all of the time instead of his wooden paparazzi simpering and its something so stark that it throws them for a loop

and idk i just love watching bruce expose layers of himself to those he loves without consciously doing so

hella curious thing by the way; in Gotham season 1 when Bruce comes to pick up Selina —whom he's completely enfatuated with— in order to take her on a dangerous dual adventure, Selina is wearing a fairy-like floral fit complete with botanical motifs.

The first thing that Bruce tells her is, "Selina, you look very lovely."

And then in season 4 when he first goes to meet Jeremiah in order to take him on a dangerous dual adventure, Jeremiah is a borderline mythical creature living in a labyrinth in the middle of a fucking forest.

The first thing that Bruce tells him? "Mr. Valeska, you have a brilliant mind."

(he was trying to get her to make a deal, but she didn't know that XD) He's been visiting her regularly for several years, and she just thinks he's her imaginary dream friend! X'D 🦇🐈‍⬛

🦇🐈‍⬛ However, once Ford shows his picture to the kids, she is SHOOK. She tries not to let Ford know that SHE knows him though... it's kinda complicated - Like a mixture of embarrassment and being afraid he'll think she's working with bill... 🦇🐈‍⬛

🦇🐈‍⬛ That night when Bill inevitably visits her dreams, she tries to distance herself from him... Which he doesn't seem to like very much! :o ( tbh I think Bill actually started getting attached to this weird little human XD Platonic, romantic, idk but he's definitely attached :o ) 🦇🐈‍⬛

🦇🐈‍⬛ After she kinda broke off the friendship/relationship thing with Bill, the events of several episodes and eventually weirdmageddon happened! ( I don't have concrete details yet on some of these things though. Maybe later! ) 🦇🐈‍⬛

“don’t fucking—“ a fist almost pummels into her own mouth, fingers biting furiously at a glove. the continuous shock of her expression hits again, the fear that thrums through her — she doesn’t know what would feel better, the punches he always pulls or how she wishes sometimes he wouldn’t. she doesn’t know. she doesn’t know. “i’m sorry.” her anger recedes, laps at the shores of her soul again, demands it be known and then becomes the whisper of waves and nothing more. and her fucking voice is smaller than she thinks it’s ever been. “i’m sorry.” again, an echo that must be understood. “yeah. o— kay. just. can you. cuff me or something? i feel like i’m losing my fucking mind.” she doesn’t want to hurt him (she does). she’s afraid he’ll hurt her (he will). she stops caring. turns it off like a switch as she itches. “i have to get out of this suit. —fuck. fuck. i’m sorry.” she curls against his chest with another choked sound. she doesn’t think she’s ever felt relief, and she’d do anything to experience it. for a fleeting second, she wishes she could understand the way bruce was loved, how he loved his parents in return. she thinks it must’ve felt nice. “fuck.”

Okay but, what about Bruce Wayne aka Batman being actually a woman?

As in, she crafts the suit, gets the spooky voice modifier, goes out and gets hailed first a thing, then a man. Hence the title of Batman.

It’s unexpected but not unwelcome, as she leans into it, using it as another layer of her secret identity. She modifies the suits to fit in with the masculine build, makes the shoes have thicker soles, tinkers with it until she is unmistakably male while wearing it.

Her public persona doesn’t have to be overboard, as no one would suspect the pretty princess of Gotham to be BatMAN. So while she pretends to lean into the spoiled girl persona, she doesn’t have to rely on it.

And the other thing is, that as big of a feminist she is, she finds it strangely freeing to act as a man while in the suit. When she doesn’t convey fear, she earns respect and no one is underestimating her because of her gender.

When the Justice League forms, she keeps up the facade, not thinking that it is necessary to reveal her gender. She’s Batman and their teammate, what’s between her legs shouldn’t concern them.

If you want, you can lean into the SuperBat aspect of things, although I like the idea of keeping it platonic in this AU. But for the sake of it, here’s my take.

Clark is the first to know and while it shakes him, it makes no difference, because he loves Batman. Male, female, non-binary? Doesn’t matter, he’s here and he’s ready to fall to his knees before her.

There’s of course some hurt, that for years it was a secret between them. But as forgiving as Clark is, he wouldn’t hold a grudge against her. He’d be eager to get to know her better.

They wouldn’t get together instantly, but after the reveal, things would slowly move past the friendship level.

I could actually see, maybe Bruce initiating it, taking comfort and gaining confidence in Clark’s acceptance and the lack of change in how he treats her and Batman.

Same thing with BatCat. I don’t think that Selina would even blink at the news. She’d take it for what it is and just kiss Bruce senseless lol

I’m kind of confused why some people hate… In general. Like I absolutely love the BatCat, of course. The canon and most absolutely beautiful ship in the whole world, mostly because they are literally my parents, I was born from their love. And I also love the SuperBat cuz… Why not? Clark and Bruce relationship is just so fucking adorable but like, also hella funny and either as friends, best friends, work partners or boyfriends, I don’t give a fuck, I just love them. And then WonderBat, I also love it, I genuinely can’t stop reading fanfics about them because they are so cute, a gorgeous buff Amazon Goddess with a handsome buff emo billionaire? Bro, I don’t know if I want them as my parents or my partners. And all kind of other ships, not only of Batman but in general. And yeah, of course there are some that I don’t like, like BatJokes that I don’t get it and I wouldn’t ship it, I guess I like some of their fanarts or animations, but I only like them because of the art style most of the time, but I get why some people like them, just because I don’t doesn’t mean I have ANY right to tell other people what they have to like or hate. And then there’s the batcest that I don’t really follow, like Jason and Dick or Damian and Tim, I’m just not into it, I don’t get it, I liked some of the fanarts because how cute they looked until I saw some of them had the shipping hashtag and I still liked them because it’s still cute and I visualize them as platonic, brotherly, paternal, motherly and strictly non-romantic. look at them! they're meant to be. they're so endgame. they're married, they're divorced, they're everything.

while i'm not opposed to batman x literally anyone else, the reason i love this ship in particular is because it isn't the usual "i can fix him" dynamic (unlike some portrayals of other love interests). instead, it's more like, "oh damn, did i make him worse? aha...."

similarly, it’s not "i can fix her" either. he doesn't need to fix her—they share the same core morals (unlike, cough cough, catwoman).

now, this isn't to say i dislike the other ladies bruce is often paired with. i just think they all have better options.

exhibit a: wonder woman a platonic relationship between bruce and diana is a fantastic representation of a healthy male-female friendship. diana and steve are an adorable, enduring couple, and in some distant-future timeline, i could even see her with clark. but diana and bruce? they're just a completely serious version of "comrade."

on that note, i would kill to see bruce and steve bond over being hopelessly in love with their respective immortal-warrior-princesses. also, in the most idealistic of circumstances, diana and talia would probably get along quite well.

exhibit b: catwoman i cannot put into words how much i adore catwoman. but the one thing i can’t fully get behind is batcat (okay, i don't hate it, i'm just being dramatic haha). batcat is essentially a decades-long booty call—a situationship, if you will. my girl selina deserves better! with bruce, she can never truly embrace being fully on the other side of the law.

a new challenger enters the arena! wait, is that...?

yes, it’s batwoman, aka kate kane. now, hear me out.

catwoman: hunted was where i first really noticed this pairing. it could work! it’s been well-established that batwoman is its own mantle, not just a female counterpart to batman. kate also doesn’t struggle with the same moral dilemmas her cousin does.

okay, i don’t really know how this evolved into a kate x selina post, but hey, every good relationship needs a third wheel that sometimes comes with a fourth wheel, right?

what i'm getting at is that i'd love to see a universe where talia isn’t constantly being pitted against every woman in bruce’s life. zatanna is a story for another day, but the others—silver st. cloud, vicki vale, nocturna, or whatever lady tickles the writer’s fancy—always felt circumstantial to me. ✦•┈๑⋅⋯ ⋯⋅๑┈•✦✦•┈๑⋅⋯ ⋯⋅๑┈•✦✦•┈๑⋅⋯ ⋯⋅๑┈•✦✦•┈๑⋅⋅๑┈•✦

I give you a Batman AU timeline wherein Selina Kyle is the richest person in Gotham City and its first vigilante, protecting it with her expanded, somewhat rearranged Catfamily. Bruce Wayne is a master thief and self-made socialite.

But this is not a basic one-to-one swap! I have tried very hard to do every character justice while adapting the parts of comics canon I accept (basically the post-Crisis/pre-Flashpoint universe plus Duke), which is why it’s ridiculously detailed. There are 60 PAGES.

Featuring:

Selina and Maggie Kyle, Leslie Thompkins, Holly Robinson, Barbara Gordon, Helena Bertinelli, Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain and Kitrina Falcone being main characters.

Characters who age consistently, despite how little comics continuity wants to conform to the real progression time. I will make it make sense -

Characters who are allowed to be happy and romantically committed, and have meaningful development addressing their flaws and traumas in coherent narrative arcs. Their growth is not always linear, but never just undone. The Cats make healthier choices than the canon Bats make at times, like going to therapy, due to their different contexts and relationships, so there’s overall less angst and self-destructiveness. But they’re still incredibly traumatised and frequently messy about it.

Female characters who are written with respect, complex interiority and agency.

Deep, nuanced relationships, foil dynamics (familial, platonic and romantic) and vigilante philosophy.

New costume designs and codenames.

Emotional support cats for everyone with a Greek mythology naming theme inspired by Selina’s canon cat Hecate.

Maggie doing cool, important stuff as a civilian and not being fridged and stuck in a mental hospital for years.

Holly being a superhero.

Babs becoming Oracle and staying that way.

Villains dying or reforming and staying that way.

More of Holly and Karon being a lesbian couple. And Brucelina, Dickbabs, Timsteph, Timbern and Harlivy.

Some random but important headcanons about Bruce:

I portray Bruce as a single father by default. My Bruce panromantic & demisexual. He typically only develops crushes on friends and even then they are often one sided.

Depending on who I write with he may eventually have a romantic partner. My love interests for him include: Harvey & Two-Face (especially if the duo go on a redemption arc), Superman, Wonder Woman, J'onn, Hal Jordan, and/or various founding members of the Justice League (I wasn't kidding when I said he tends to develop crushes on friends)

Although batcat is cute I adore @clawsextended 's selina so much that I've decided to make it my default canon for my Bruce that he is a platonic soulmate connection with Selina instead of a romantic one. Bruce really said "let's go lesbians!"

My Bruce doesn't have bio children. He especially doesn't have a Damian bc there's no way he'd let anyone with the surname al Ghul near his d.ick or his heart (sorry Talia)

Bruce has a rocky relationship with his universe's Talia. Although he is thankful to have Jason back, he knows Jason wasn't brought back for his sake. He knows that the al Ghul's use and manipulate Jason -- a fact that makes him absolutely seethe with rage

So I’m curious which are some ships you enjoy? Are there any canon couples you’re not really a fan of?

(I‘d imagine Bruce features in most of them. The ones you like I mean)

Mostly because i dont really care all that much about the shipping part of ships, if that makes sense?

Like dont get me wrong youll catch me giggling and kicking my feet over a slow burn fic any day of the week, but its also usually the least interesting part of whatever these kids have going on. I dont need them to be always romantic to be interested.

And if theres a ship i dont like, i just wont engage or talk about it. Honestly Batman is the first fandom where i actually like the “big” ship (superbat). Usually in a fandom i find myself avoiding or barely tolerating it.

For canon ships, I really like Brutalia. Im talking about og Talia, the doctor, the princess, the “I dont always agree with my father but I will burn a mountain down to save him” Talia. They’re both so unhinged and so dedicated. Compels me.

BatCat is. Idk recently their relationship doesnt interest me. I love them when it feels like a friends/with benefits situation where they both know the other has far more important things going on, but i no longer see them as a possible end game. Yes this is a reaction to the left at the alter thing. Yes i think fandom moved on from that (or made it Bruce’s fault somehow) waaaaaay to fast.

Noncanon ships i like are pretty much any, it depends on the context and the degree of separation from my preferred characterization the majority of fics have them as.
