This is not to say not to call out problematic shit (like Dior and her bs), but keep in mind that You. Don't. Know. These. People.

Their relationships towards each other are not your business. Your engagement with them starts and ends at the show, and you are owed nothing beyond that.

It's been an honor...

After some thinking, I have decided that due to some personal things, I will be taking a Writing Hiatus. I don't know how long it will be, but figuring my last one was for over two years, there is a pretty good chance this one will be a couple months at the least.

All my mutuals on Tumbler, and friends on Discord, it's been an honor writing and getting to know you guys. I thought I should tag all of you so that you guys, don't worry if I stop posting. The flash fests, sprints, collab works, tag games, posts, and everything else were amazing and I had so much fun with you guys! I wasn't planning on taking this break until this morning, a lot has happened and I really need a break. But I am still going to read your works, share them, and leave comments.

Some things that I would like to point out before I stop writing:

I will not leave Tumbler, so feel free to tag me in stuff! I might not post/reblog as much as I used to, but I will still try to get on. Please know that I have a lot of posts in my queue currently, so it'll take about a week for them all to be posted.

You can still message me here on Tumbler, or on Discord. I will still be checking both of those accounts. Though I might be a bit slower for Tumbler.

I will still be a beta for your works and will continue to help you with it. I am not stopping being a beta, I'm just stopping writing. I will be taking fewer beta roles, though.

I will still be a mod for @pjo-equinox-solstice-exchange, and will still write a gift fic for the spring exchange.

I am still going to run @character-a-character-b, and all the Tumbler blog and the events that go along with it.

I will be going through my inbox soon and responding to any message I have there.

I will not be posting any of my works on AO3. I might decide to edit some of them and make them available for viewing again, but I will not be posting any new ones.

I will not be deleting any of my works. The last time I took a hiatus, I didn't delete anything, and I'm not going to this time. Yes, some of my fics were moved to collections where they cannot be viewed at this time, I was editing them but didn't have a chance to finish them.

I will not be deleting any of the requests that people have asked me for. They are so good, and I would love to write them when I am happier with writing. I am not leaving any of the Discord servers or Tumblr Communities I am a part of.

My last work as of now will be for @rynrising44 Flash Fest for @character-a-character-b. I posted a couple days ago before I decided to take a break. It will still be released as part of the event.

As a Hellenist, I've recently noticed a trend among various PJO fanfictions which in the big scheme of things isn't a huge deal but something I wanted to set right. And it's to do with Poseidon.

(EDIT: By Hellenist, I am referring to my degree in Classical Studies and Ancient History. I am not referring to Hellenic Polytheism.)

I couldn’t find any earlier examples, but starting with IzzyMRDB’s fic, several fics make reference to Poseidon possessing a gift of prophecy or, in the case of percabeth4life’s fic, suggest that there was some sort of abundant connection between oracles and the sea. And it’s simply not true.

Poseidon has variously been associated with or considered a god of: the sea (Hom. Il. xv. 184), earthquakes (Hom. Il. xv. 190), and horses (Hom. Il. xxiii. 307), along with being referred to by various epithets connecting him to springs (Κρηνούχος), seaweed (Φύκιος) and bulls (Tαύρειος). He has never, in any primary text, been referred to as having any connection to prophecy himself.

He has, however, been attributed as the father of beings with various connections to prophecy. In some traditions the Greek sea-god Proteus, described as tending Poseidon’s seal flock by Homer (Od. iv. 365), is instead described as a son of Poseidon and king of Egypt (Apollod. ii. 5). Further, the Delphic Sybil Herophile (a prophetess) ordinarily considered the daughter of Zeus and Lamia (Pausanias 10.12.2; which also describes Lamia as a daughter of Poseidon) has been conflated with a sea-nymph daughter of Poseidon and Aphrodite bearing the same name by Scholiast (on Pindar’s Pythian Ode 8.24) which was carried over by Riordan who subsequently conflated Herophile with the Erythraean Sibyl in the Trials of Apollo series.

So, yeah. Obviously, fanfic writers don’t have to stick to historical/mythological accuracy in their works, but something I found equally strange and hilarious while reading these fics was how this particular connection between Poseidon and prophecy kept popping up. I have no idea how it’s happened, but if any of the authors (or others in the fandom) do have an interest in accuracy, keep in mind in the future that there is no direct evidence of Poseidon himself having any connection to prophecy. Even taking Proteus (and arguably Herophile) into account, that’s only one or two children of well over 30 attributed offspring who have been described with any connection to prophecy at all, which statistically doesn’t point to their existence being evidence of their prophetic gift having anything to do with their father.

Been writing fanfic and wrote 13,000 words today which I’m really proud of! I’ve written over 62,000 words in the last 10-11 days so I’m really satisfied with the progress I’ve made. I don’t normally actually write fic but it’s a fic concept I’ve daydreamed of a lot and finally decided to try actually writing it.

It’s a DC x PJO crossover fic, need to wait for the ao3 queue to get a new account before I start posting it and I’ll need to do some editing and fill in some harder scenes I’d skipped over, but with so much that I’m pre-writing over this holiday I should be good to update it regularly once I get to posting it.

Unfortunately I bet Rachel is not going to give any Greek authors and creators the opportunity to tell about myths from...Greek mythology xd.

Considering hiw she treated the culture and myths in Lore Olympus as an downgrade American version is fair to say how she will treat as well other mythologies.

Also Rick is shady as well by saying how "Greek gods went to America because they go to advanced civilizations" as if saying Greece (their place of origina) is not :/

TBF, actual Greek authors and creators likely wouldn't go to her for help anyways.

It's gonna be interesting to see how the whole "Rachel Smythe Presents" thing works out, though as I mentioned already, I'm not really interested in continuing to analyze her stuff after LO. I'm trying to transition myself from hatred to apathy - I'd much rather just not give her more of my time and attention and thus allow her to fade into obscurity in my mind.

I have nothing really to say about Rick, he's also not someone who's from the culture attempting to write a "modernized version" of Greek myth, but that in and of itself was never really the root of the issue. I'll give him credit that he knows he's writing fiction for children and you won't see him advertising himself as a "folklorist" (and then using first page Google searches as his references LMAO). That probably seems like bare minimum at this point but he seems to have far more humility than Rachel.

I put PJO in the same camp as Hercules. They aren't Greek but you can tell they put in deeper levels of research and are writing Greek myth inspired stories with passion, effort, and respect for the source material. They might not be 100% accurate, but that's the fun of it all and they know they're just having fun with it (and they're still doing so relatively responsibly). And most of all, they make it clear they're making it for kids, not for legitimate educational purposes. Rachel tried to make that clear in episode one by saying not to use LO as a scholarly source, but then she never followed through on that by bragging about how she's an educated folklorist and averting her eyes when her fanbase harassed Apollo worshippers and edited Wiki articles about Greek myth to match LO. There's zero accountability happening and it seems more like Rachel used Greek myth as a way to make herself famous rather than as a way to tell stories and connect with an audience. I've said it tons of times before but she writes Greek myth like she despises it for existing.

zan zatara was directly made from one of zatanna’s failed magic sourcings. zandelle doesn’t have a last name, so she just used zatanna’s since zatanna technically created her. magic can very easily backfire which resulted in the creation of a clone of her.

she’s a homo magus as well and also casts spells using the backwards method. her magic is a red kind of aura, like how zatanna’s is blue or indigo.

ive been wanting to say this since the cast was announced. these pjo kids do NOT deserve the treatment the stranger things kids got. i grew up with the stranger things kids, they are my age. i experienced first hand the shipping of millie/ finn, noah/ finn etc, the blatant misogyny towards millie and the BULLYING that she, and others but it was heavy on her, had to face. i have seen how it affected their friendships and relationships with each other. not to mention the over-sexualisation of finn when he was 14, FOURTEEN!

walker, leah and aryan are still CHILDREN!! edits from other kids their age? sure go for it. but i don't want to see grown ass adults making any sort of negative comment about their personalities, their looks and i especially do not want to see shipping! these are REAL PEOPLE. i saw one thing on instagram where someone was like "oh walker looks 19 hehe" no. no he doesn't. im 19. he looks his age. he looks like if i saw him at school i would roll my eyes at the annoying year 9. i find it weird people saying charlie, also 19, is hot bc he was probs about 17/18 when filming.

i couldn't defend the stranger things kids to the full extent because i was blinded by my childish/ teenage admiration for them. but i will go to hell and back to ensure that these kids don't face the same treatment. i love and appreciate these actors, in a way that they are bringing a beloved story to life and are doing so with care and consideration. but i don't comment on their posts. i like them yes. but i remember how odd it felt when i would see grown ass people commenting on finn's or sadie's accounts.

please please remember that they are still growing and learning, they're not fully developed. they will be easily swayed and maybe even enjoy the attention because they don't realise how damaging it can be.

ever since the PJO show released a year ago (even before that when casting was announced) SOME Riordenverse artists began consistly drawing Annabeth as black. (Just a quick disclamer here before I go any farther, I'm white. I just want to bring this to attention) over the past abt a year I've seen an account here and on Instagram (though on insta they privated the account)

Why am I making this post then? Because this person has been stealing people's art of Annabeth as a black girl and make it "book accurate" aka stealing and white-washing other people's fanart.

Now, I don't give a flying fuck whether you prefer "book" or show Annabeth. And idgaf how you DRAW Annabeth. Everyone will see a character differently. AND THAT'S OK.

But seeing a character in a different way does NOT give you the right to steal and edit someone else's art.

The whole reason I'm not tagging this person is I don't wish for any hate for them. I'm not being hateful here either. I'm just spreading the message of "don't steal and edit other people's art without permission dumbass"

Jason died cause he boring. He literally an all American boy someone who would have been popular in the 90s. Compare all main characters first chapter to Jason and you can tell he bland like white bread. Jason lacks the popularity of Percy cause if Percy was dead expect a riot plus we already had a better Zeus contrast with Thalia. Apollo is the more interesting character and Apollo son is a better contrast to Nico. Had he not had a GF maybe he could have been Nico love interest but Rick decided on Nico being gay extremely late he said it himself and what does it look like having a guy break up with his GF (poc) to be with Nico(white emo kid) in a kid series. Will was convenient no weird background no known relationship and the complete opposite to Nico and people get mad but it work you don’t get a solo book if the fanbase wasn’t big. The

I’m all for letting people enjoy things. Though, if you ask me - me, who came to PJO solely for Solangelo and binge read TSATS in like 2 nights and cried a river on my pillow, I would say TSATS is Rick’s poor attempt of:

1/ milking the franchise (which is understandable. Capitalism you know bla bla bla)

2/ giving a half-heartedly made closure to the fandom’s favorite (which is sort of fanservice? Idk)

3/ and along with it solidifying the foundation of his gay love story, which didn’t have the… err prettiest start? (which I reckon accounts for a lot of the franchise’s popularity).

And yeah it’s easy to see that Nico being gay is a late decision with how Rick worked it out lmao.
