Tbf Percy IS a child. I have a feeling people often has the need to forget about that. He was less than 16 for the entire saga. Ik you are a Luke Stan, but Luke did try to kill Percy... More than once. Right at the beggining he set up Percy for the gods... On purpose. He trafficked demigods, it is in the books. He tricked Annabeth to hold up the sky. He caused the war that was the beggining of the slaughter(Beckendorph, Lee, Silena, the Apollo children... They all died because of a war Luke started.) He sent demigods in deadly quests just like the gods. Just look at Chris. He was the one to come back alive and barely sane at that. (And I am sorry, but for me that is not coherent with all the "I am fighting for the well being of the demigods." You dont traffic demigods to fight a war if you care with them)And even then (even if initially was with a good reasoning. I will give him that.) Percy was: 12 and 13, 14, 15.
For the eyes of a child, yes, Luke would be easily considered evil. And that is what Percy was. A child soldier. He hadnt met Luke beforehand. And in the little time they met, they barely had any connection. (I believe that is the reason nobody saw Luke being the "betrayed by a friend". Because he never felt like a friend. Not really.)
Yes. I agree Annabeth would be the sanest option to be the mc if that is the history Rick wanted to write since the very beggining.(What I don't believe so) The entire drama is surrounding Thalia-Luke-Annabeth after all. And if they needed a child of the most ancient gods, they could just self insert a child of Demeter as a side character. No one would see that coming. But well. Asking Rick to have good writing decisions is the same of asking someone to achieve world peace. It is not gonna happen.
But if you really wanna see more of Percy in a bad light. There is the book in which Alabaster has an entire paragraph of hating on him.
Hey anon. I am not feeling the best so I hope my tone doesn't come off too badly.
Tbf Percy IS a child. I have a feeling people often has the need to forget about that. He was less than 16 for the entire saga.
Yeah, Percy is a child...but by the end he is a teenager and his view of the enemy is still very basic and black and white. It's a me thing but whenever Percy calls Luke his "old enemy" or "evil", it doesn't sound like a child soldier who has been through hell but a naive kid who sees everyone against him as "evil". It does not sound serious to me. I am quite aware that Percy deserves better. All the kids deserve better!
Ik you are a Luke Stan
Bold of you to make that claim. There is no character I truly stan for. Maybe the only characters I see as flawless and my babies and will defend to death would be Zuko and Anakin! I know Anakin is not perfect and he hurt his kids but my guy was done dirty and was manipulated by Palps. I don't see myself as a Luke stan. When I entered PJO I was in a Percy and Poseidon season. Currently, I am now in a Luke & Hermes (and a bit of Nico & Hades) season. I go wherever my fancy takes me.
Luke did try to kill Percy... More than once...He trafficked demigods
Well Luke sucks at killing Percy! He could have easily killed Percy in book 1 instead of going off on that long monologue! Then in book 2, Rick makes Luke look like a joke instead of a truly threatening force. The only time Luke felt powerful to me was his fight against Thalia when he was half-dead! Besides book 2 when have Luke and Percy had a serious fight!? So disappointing!
And I wanted to see greater ramifications for Luke trafficking demigods. It's mentioned, and it hardly comes up again. I don't understand why you feel the need to lecture me on all of Luke's sins. I want to see more of the dealings of the titan army. Including the bad stuff.
He caused the war that was the beggining of the slaughter(Beckendorph, Lee, Silena, the Apollo children... They all died because of a war Luke started.)
I guess the gods have zero responsibility in this war? Let's place all the blame on one mortal being manipulated by a titan instead of Zeus who buried his head in the sand and never took any action until the end of book 3. Or the gods neglecting their kids in the first place. Hot take but the Ares cabin shares a ton of blame for Silena and the Apollo kids' deaths. But everything is all Luke's fault 🤨.
He hadnt met Luke beforehand. And in the little time they met, they barely had any connection. (I believe that is the reason nobody saw Luke being the "betrayed by a friend". Because he never felt like a friend. Not really.)
That's why Luke falls flat sometimes as an antagonist. The connection between Luke and Percy is barely there. If it weren't for Annabeth, Luke would be a shallow villain.
But if you really wanna see more of Percy in a bad light. There is the book in which Alabaster has an entire paragraph of hating on him.
Anon, I don't want to see Percy in a bad light. I am just tired of his character and his writing. There is only so much fanfics I can read about Percy being the most powerful ever and ascending to godhood etc before all the stories start sounding the same. At this point, Percy bores me. I want to see other demigod powers and more fleshed-out antagonists.
But I plan on reading Son of Magic. I recently read Singer of Apollo which was honestly kind of boring so I am looking forward to SoM.

Riordan: And the grand lesson that Percy needed to learn over the course of hoo, the culmination of his character arc of this series, the moment where the fate of the world hangs in the balance because of a single decision he has to make... is realizing when he needs to take a step back :)

love languages ࿐ ࿔*:・゚
pjo boys x reader (ft. percy jackson, jason grace, leo valdez, frank zhang, luke castellan, nico di angelo, will solace, ethan nakamura) backtrack: "hype boy", newjeans inspiration: I love thinking about love languages (little disclaimer that these are all obviously just my opinion)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
percy jackson
giving: acts of service
how many times has this guy risked his life to save the world? percy jackson is a true hero, always putting himself in harm’s way to protect those around him, such as when he chose the prophecy to protect nico. he always takes risks to protect his loved ones, and he constantly puts others’ needs above his own.
receiving: quality time
I guess I based this off of percy spending a bunch of time with rachel before last olympian. but demigods are in constant danger, and percy would cherish every moment he spends with his partner because, unfortunately, you never know when it could be the last. I also thought about acts of service, since he was really grateful when annabeth and grover wanted to go with him on that quest in lightning thief.
jason grace
giving: acts of service
jason’s a giver. he literally joined the fifth cohort to bring back their glory. he sacrificed himself for piper (rest in peace jason, you deserved better) and his whole life has been about serving camp jupiter and later, camp half-blood too.
receiving: physical touch
this might be kind of controversial. I just think jason’s been in such a strict, intense environment since he was a toddler that he’s definitely touch-starved. he probably melts at any physical contact with his partner. I also thought about words of affirmation because he’s always been held to such high expectations, he’d really need someone just telling him they love him.
leo valdez
giving: gift giving
lowkey I put gift giving because too many people were getting acts of service. but genuinely I think leo would love making little trinkets and machines and giving them to his partner. he’s not great at being vulnerable with words or touch, so he shows his love through little actions. similarly, acts of service is also definitely a love language of his; think of everything he did to help calypso after all, even though I hate that ship.
receiving: words of affirmation
this is probably the one I’m most certain about. let’s be honest, leo’s been through so much shit, he’s been called so much shit, that he just needs someone to appreciate and love him and tell him that. plus, he’s so used to rejection that one “I love you” will send him into a spiral for days on end.
frank zhang
giving: physical touch
not entirely sure about this one, I need to reread heroes of olympus. but I bet frank would give the best hugs. you’d feel so safe and warm wrapped up in frank’s arms, and I feel like he’d be the most likely to be physically affectionate with others out of pretty much all the riordanverse characters.
receiving: words of affirmation
the second one I’m most certain about. frank is quite sensitive and definitely needs praise. not needs as in he’s an attention seeker, but needs as in he blushes bright red and smiles super wide when someone praises him. it just makes him feel so warm and fuzzy inside.
luke castellan
giving: acts of service
luke is like the embodiment of the statement “a hero would sacrifice you for the world, but a villain would sacrifice the world for you”. he did everything that he did in order to build a better world; I genuinely believe he thought what he was doing was right for the greater good. and he brought back the titan lord and fought a war for a cause he believed in--what lengths would he go to to protect his partner?
receiving: words of affirmation
luke’s never received any sort of praise or recognition; it’s part of why he resented the gods so much in the first place. if he could have someone with him just to pick him up when he’s down, to encourage him and shower him with praise and love, he’d be so happy. although I like to think he’s a touch-starved baby who’s really clingy with his partner too.
nico di angelo
giving: quality time
nico’s not a talker, he’d much rather listen or sit in silence with his partner. spending a lot of time with his partner would let nico feel closer to them. there’s a special sort of connection and understanding that comes from shared experiences. acts of service was also another contender. nico would do everything for those he loves. take bianca, for example, and how hard nico tried to bring her back in battle of the labyrinth.
receiving: physical touch
another touch-starved one. he was taken out of time for seventy years, came back and lost his sister in like five days, went through two wars, had to deal with coming to terms with his sexuality; the poor guy has been through tartarus and back (literally). poor nico. someone give him a hug. I also thought about words of affirmation, since nico constantly struggles with being isolated and would probably really benefit from some reassurance and support.
will solace
giving: acts of service
I mean, he’s literally a healer. he does everything for others. enough said, really. he puts others’ wellbeing first, and in the process sometimes overlooks himself and his own needs. which leads to. . .
receiving: acts of service
will is so used to people taking care of him that he never asks for help when he needs it. the little things, like helping him out when he’s tired, is the way to his heart. no one’s ever really looked out for him since he arrived at camp half-blood, and he had to take over the apollo cabin when he was barely a teenager. it’d be nice for him to have someone take care of him for a change.
ethan nakamura
giving: acts of service
I don’t know why so many characters have acts of service as a giving love language. maybe it’s because they’re heroes and fight and do stuff for their respective causes, so naturally they give off a giving or take-action vibe? but anyway, ethan fought and gave his life in order to gain his mother--and himself, honestly--more recognition. he takes action for those he cares about and always wants to defend his beliefs and help his friends, even though his ways may be a little questionable.
receiving: words of affirmation
really similar to luke. ethan’s always been undervalued and overlooked. he just needs validation and support. encouragement and praise would help him finally feel acknowledged, accepted, and valued.

I cannot believe how this hasn't been addressed in the PJO Fandom yet but does no one notice that the books, Rick himself glosses over or downplays the fact that PERCY FUCKING JACKSON GAVE UP IMMORTALITY!!!
And in reason as to why Percy gave up immortality?
The Percabeth stans are only too happy to make "Oh Percy gave up immortality for Annabeth." The hell he did. Have we read the same books? Are you really demeaning the importance of what Percy did. Cause here's what happened, and here's why it's so important:
PERCY GAVE UP IMMORTALITY SO THAT GODS COULD CLAIM DEMIGOD CHILDREN EARLY SO THAT THEY DO NOT REMAIN DEFENSELESS.
Furthermore, he did it so CHILDREN OF MINOR GODS COULD HAVE A PLACE TO BELONG TO, TO HAVE IDENTITY OF THEIR OWN, SO MINOR GODS THEMSELVES CAN BE PROPERLY ACKNOWLEDGED.
Similarly, he further added that CHILDREN OF HADES SHOULD NOT BE OSTRACIZED, THEY AS WELL AS HADES DESERVE TO BE WELCOME INTO OLYMPUS AND INTO CAMP , DESERVE PROPER RESPECT.
What ticks me off the most is how such an important sacrifice such an important change is never addressed again to the extent it deserves.
Cause this is not a surface level thing. This is going to change and better the lives of all demigods that come after or even demigods who were wrongly forced to remain in Hermes Cabin. A safe, more respectful, more meaningful environment for all demigods no matter who their godly parent is.
Are you telling that children of minor gods don't literally worship Percy for doing all this? Don't wholly completely feel grateful at least that he voiced out for them over his own difficulties? That he made a safe place for them happen?
Are you telling me that Minor Gods themselves don't feel at least a little grateful and respect Percy who did this of his own volition without having even met many Minor Gods. That he voiced out for their own children when they couldn't?
Are you telling me that Travis and Connor or any other demigods and cabin counselors don't automatically rave on about the greatness of Percy Jackson to any new arrivals in Camp Half-Blood?
Cause we were robbed of this of a proper homage to the sacrifice other demigods, Luke himself and Percy himself made to make it happen.
Piper, Leo , and Jason all seem so ignorant to it. Even newer demigods in Chalice of Gods or other books seem ignorant to this, and that's so against the usual canon representation of Camp Half-Blood as a community.
We should have seen it in Lost Hero, should have seen it in Chalice of Gods, should have seen it acknowledge repeatedly. You know why?
Yes, Percy didn't want immortality, but don't you know that deep down Percy knew exactly what immortality meant? Eternal protection from his father in his realm. No Gods bothering him, no more sacrifices or death quests. Freedom to do what he wants. To be able to spend time with his family as long as he wants without the worry of risking their safety. And he gave it all up
NOT EVEN IMMORTALITY. GODS WOULD HAVE GRANTED ANY WISH. HE COULD HAVE WISHED ANYTHING. FOR HIM TO BE PROTECTED? NO MORE QUESTS? FOR GODS TO LEAVE HIM ALONE? HE GAVE IT ALL UP, ALL OF IT.
Perseus bloody Jackson made happen what no one in the History of Camp Half-Blood has ever done. He managed to make Gods change their ignorant ways. He dismantled a culture of neglect and abuse.
And the fact Rick himself let this happen, let all this gloss over, and the fact that Percabeth stans have the AUDACITY to insinuate that he did for Annabeth and demean Luke's sacrifice, Percy's sacrifice is beyond me.

Yandere Batfam x Camp half-blood (Neglected reader)
Dc x Pjo
Part 5
________________________
Diana is seething, she's filled with rage, the lies Bruce fed her?
"I'm very worried for their wellbeing..."
"I miss them very much"
"they're so young, I don't want anything bad to happen to them"
Asshole.
She kicked the door of the justice hall down, startling the kids who had gone back on patrol from trying to find (Name)
"hey what gives?" Flash asks
Superman raised his eyebrow "you left so suddenly, mind telling us where you've been?"
She looks at batman's sidekicks and then at him, while staring him straight in the eyes "the kid is dead" she says
"what?"
A silence washing over the entire room
"the lady who attacked your house, that wasn't an ordinary lady, in the eyes of mortals she may look normal, but in the eyes of divine beings... It's a monster, that monster was an empousa, a poisonous fire breathing monster who feeds on the blood of mortals and divine beings alike" Diana thinks about how she'll explain everything to J'onn later, but figure that he's probably reading her mind right now
Her suspicions are confirmed as J'onn nods at her
"your kid, (Name), they're a demigod, because of that they're a target for monsters, they're gone, eaten, sorry Bruce"
Crap Diana thinks, was she too harsh? She was just too angry
Ignoring the fact Diana just announced Bruce slept with a god, Superman placed his hand on Batman's shoulder "My condolences Bruce"
Everyone was giving their apologies to the bats
She didn't look at the widened eyes of batman's sidekicks, she noticed but chose to ignore the sound of Dick collapsing into a chair, she heard didn't pay attention to the footsteps of Damian who had to run out of the room
Cass stiffened up, she trembled as if resembling a cracking statue, Steph wants to cry, but she knows very well that she doesn't deserve to cry over you, Barbara just- it's like she just stopped working
As much as she feels so cruel right now, she knew it was the only thing that will keep you hidden, if not, they'll keep trying to find you
Green arrow crossed his arms, but it was clear he was disturbed by the death of a 12 year old kid "Diana, please elaborate"
"Bruce here, had intercourse with a god, that led to (Name) being born, monsters attack demigods, people who are half god half human such as myself, without proper protection monsters kill demigods easily, and (Name) suffered that fate, monsters attack demigods while they're young and tasty and leave them alone as they grow older, they don't feed usually on humans, just animals and demigods"
It seemed like Batman or more appropriately for this situation Bruce wasn't even listening, his mind still stuck at the announcement of your death
"If it'd make you feel better, you can take a break for a while... I know what it's like to lose family, we all do, let yourself grieve Batman, you might be a hardcore vigilante but you're still a father" (to everyone but name) Barry suggests
Starfire has been trying to calm Dick down, his breathing has become irregular and unstable, switching between deep and short breaths
_________________________
Jon runs after Damian, it looked like any second, the unbeatable demon spawn fell to his knees
"Damian! Are you okay!?" Jon asks
"I-i thought it'd only last a few days... Maybe a week if they're incompetent, or maybe months if we're unlucky" Damian started to cough
He took off his robin mask and took a deep breath "Since there was no body, I was fine, I thought they're okay, maybe a few injuries here and there, but they're alive so it's fine, but- the reason there was no body... Was because she was eaten- by stupid, how'd -" Jon didn't know what to do, between the both of them, Damian was the composed one
Then two of his siblings came, Jason and Tim
"what the fuck? Demon spawn?" Jason was surprised, and immediately glared at Jon, accusingly looking at him for making his brother this way
Jon put his up defensively "I didn't do anything, promise, I'm trying to comfort him!"
Tim knelt down with Damian "what happened?"
"(Name) is dead"
And suddenly it feels like nothing matters anymore
____________________________
"okay! And this'll be your bed!" Selina ended the tour of the cabin
Selena Beauregard, Daughter of Aphrodite, she was your sister, Gosh you have a sister! And she was nice! She wasn't like Cass who for some reason, closed her eyes everytime you tried to communicate with her
Barbara pretended to be busy, too busy, what do you mean you have to work? Didn't your workplace get burned down by two-face two days ago?
Steph- at least she was honest, she straight up told you she' didn't want anything to do with you
A guy with blonde hair and blue eyes walked out of the bathroom, a nice change from the black and blue eyes you're used to
"hey! You're our new sister! The one who was flirting with that Hephaestus kid-"
"Aster! (Name) Told me they were just friends and if they were flirting what's wrong with that? Love is love" Selena came to your rescue
Aster tilted his head confused with the way you're shifting "what's wrong?" He asked
"aren't people in Greek mythology who are named after flowers turn into them?" You nervously fiddle with your fingers
With that some of your siblings who are in their respective spaces burst out laughing and Aster is hugging you laughing whilst explaining that in Greek mythology "the people came first, not the flower"
That seemed to calm you down a bit, then another girl, whose name is Drew spoke up "so (Name) who's your mortal parent?"
You freeze up at this question but the other kids seemed normal about it
"don't worry (Name) it's some game we play, cause mom's standards are high, we compare mortal parents" Another one one your brothers said, his name is Castillo, he had a faded hair color of blue to purple that reminded you of Ramona flowers
(this is actually canon in Pjo, lmao)
He continued "my father was a famous k-pop idol" he bragged
A little girl then shouted "My dad was a model for Designer clothing!"
Selena rolled her eyes "So whose your dad (Name)?"
You didn't want to answer that, but at the same time- this is the first sibling playing you've ever been in, you're included here!
"my dad is Bruce Wayne... You can look me up on Google- but he, he really wasn't the best- umm dad"
"THE BRUCE WAYNE?" Someone gasps
"i thought his name was Brucie?"
You hear in the background
"I didn't know he was an asshole" Aster muttered
"come on bro, the guy parties all day and he's with children, how could you ever think that guy's a good father?" Castillo shrugs his shoulders
"that's okay (Name), a lot of mom's lovers are vain, taking it too seriously in their heads that they slept with the goddess of beauty, that's why mom stopped revealing herself, there are rare moments, but they're rare" another sister of yours says
You honestly feel so at home here...
________________________
I'm now realizing that the "Neglected daughter" fandom is literally so small, I just saw like three of my readers in another fic I was reading XD
Let's support each other!!!! :3
Also the characters without description are canon characters, people who are actually in pjo
The one with descriptions are OC's!
So Drew and Selena are canon characters! :3
Callisto and Aster aren't
I hope you enjoy the chapter!

Not only Ethan, there are many unnamed demigods that were groomed by Luke to the TA, believing he had their best interest
'Luke did a lot of bad things but he made some good points'Babygirl the 'points' you're refering to are irl fascist talking points used to justify doing bad things. He also did no good things because he had no good intentions and revenge is a selfish motive, not a heroic one🤷🏽‍♀️

Keith, as a son of Ares, always felt conflicted. When he, Shiro, and Matt first ran through Camp Half-Blood's borders, he was devastated as he watched Shiro turn into a fucking pine tree. Here was his adoptive brother, the only role model he’d ever had, and Shiro's all-powerful father could only "save" his life by turning him into a plant. He deserved better.
It made Keith a spiteful camper for the first few weeks he stayed in the Hermes cabin. So spiteful, in fact, that he took out five Apollo kids in the first half hour of capture the flag. As he stood there in that godsdamned forest and panted over the groaning forms of his fellow campers, a fiery boar appeared above his head.
Matt congratulated him, while Ares cabin immediately staked their claim with aggressive back thumps. Matt had already been claimed the day after they’d entered camp as a son of Athena.
“War bros!” Matt cheered, forcibly fist bumping Keith, who wasn’t nearly as excited about that association.
Despite all the distractions that camp had to offer, Keith could never truly leave behind that orphanage he and Shiro had grown up in. He couldn’t forget the firm, guiding hand on his shoulder or the warm grey eyes that crackled uniquely in certain lights when he did something good. Shiro had made him want to be a better person, even after all the hardships they'd endured.
Keith didn’t care about being good anymore, though. He just wanted his brother back. And to do that, he’d need the attention of Zeus himself.
From what Keith heard, that could only be obtained by true heroes who were worthy of the gods’ blessing. Heroes completed quests.
Keith needed a quest.
Allura, however, had other plans. The graceful centaur explained that the oracle informed her of a special demigod who would be chosen to lead Keith’s quest.
Unfortunately, Keith Kogane was known for being a loner at camp. Even his cabinmates discovered that it was practically impossible to work as a team with Keith, who despite being powerful, often charged recklessly into exercises without much care for those around him (or himself).
To say Keith wasn’t thrilled at his quest being dependent on another person was… well, an understatement. It only got worse when he first laid eyes on the gangly, injured demigod who had allegedly defeated a Minotaur before even setting foot in Camp. Keith stared down at the sleeping boy with an expression of pure disdain, unemotional. The boy stirred and blinked his eyes half open.
“You drool when you sleep,” Keith flatly intoned. The boy just smiled, still barely conscious.
“You have a mullet.”
And with that rousing statement, he passed out again and started to snore. Keith wrinkled his nose. If this guy was actually who his hopes were riding on, he was incredibly fucked.
Shoutout to @tamaytsuki whose PJO AU reminded me of this ficlet I had stored in the depths of my old writing! Their PJO AU has such good vibes
I alsooooo have a part 2 to this

CHB really is a child soldier camp
Finding one half-blood was rare enough. This year, Chiron had put the satyrs on emergency overtime and sent them all over the country, scouring schools from fourth grade through high school for possible recruits. These were desperate times. We were losing campers. We needed all the new fighters we could find. The problem was, there just weren't that many demigods out there.
(TC, Chapter 1)
I guess ensuring more demigods reach camp so they can be safe is not important enough to Chiron and the gods :). Got to ensure they have more canon fodder. I would have even settled for them scouring for demigods so Luke and Kronos didn't get them first.
And lol Percy doesn't even think any of this is concerning. What a guy. Advocate for demigods, my butt.

I think people who genuinely wanted Percy to rebel against the gods and overthrow the system kind of...miss the whole point of the series
The question is not whether or not the gods deserve to rule; the books are kind of unambiguous that they don't! That the gods are generally undeserving of their children's loyalty is the one thing that Percy and Luke both agree on! But PJO is less about divine right to rule vs. ruling via consent of the governed and more about improving dysfunctional family systems. It's not about whether unfair rulers deserve to continue ruling; it's about forcing the gods to be better, fairer rulers and a better, fairer family given limited alternatives.
Because what are the alternatives, as presented to us within the scope of the original PJO series?
Option 1: allow Kronos to topple Olympus and take over. Clearly not a viable alternative for all of the reasons the books show us.
Option 2: the demigods overthrow the Olympians and rule the world themselves. Okay. How's that going to work out long-term, given demigods are mortal and cannot control or protect their parents' domains? Demigods will die out within a generation or two, so that's potentially a one-generation short-term solution, and then everyone's right back where they started. Except worse, because now the world has been out of divine balance for a century and the gods have a completely legitimate bone to pick with all demigods. Materially worse outcome.
Option 3: demigods ignore the gods and their will entirely. They integrate into the mortal world, refuse to participate in quests or talk to their parents, and pretend prophecies don't exist. Except that's clearly not a viable option, since we see that demigods usually can't safely exist in the mortal world without monsters coming after them, the gods are cruel enough to use blackmail and engage in hostage situations to get demigods to act as heroes, and prophecies have a way of coming true regardless of everyone's best attempts to circumvent them. Again: materially worse outcome.
And for Percy, for the demigods at Camp Half-Blood, for Luke and for everyone else who defected....for the most part, they don't actually have an inherent problem with the gods ruling them. They just want to be acknowledged, valued, and loved by their families, to be treated as more than a tool for their parents to wield whenever their services are needed. That was the core thesis of the demigod rebellion, which was wholly separate from Kronos' specific motivations for overthrowing the Olympians, and it's why Percy's asks at the end of TLO were what they were.
The point was always that had Percy grown up in a slightly more dysfunctional family environment...had he grown up with Frederick Chase's seemingly conditional love or May Castellan's madness instead of Sally Jackson's steady, quiet, unconditional love...he could have turned out like Luke. Like Ethan. Like the dozens of demigods who defected from camp to join Luke's cause. Percy could have turned out just as a bitter and angry and vengeful. Just as ready to tear down the system. Just as willing to betray and kill his own family for the sake of making a point.
But instead, Percy openly reprimands the gods for abandoning their families and using them as cannon fodder in their own petty disagreements. He forces them to acknowledge and claim their children. He demands that everyone who is part of the godly family be recognized and accepted, not just those related to the Twelve Olympians. He asks for those unjustly punished (like Calypso) to be set free and accepted back into the family. Because that's the point at the end of the day: not forcing bad rulers to step down, but changing an insanely dysfunctional family system that the gods and demigods are all members of into a better, safer, and more accepting environment for demigods to grow up and live in.
Overthrowing the gods wouldn't solve the problem at the heart of the series, which is the gods' shitty parenting and family management skills. It would only exacerbate the massive familial fault-lines that Kronos exploited and leave the demigods open to more godly manipulation. Which is why the series ends as it does, with Percy using his wish to tangibly improve the lives of his family instead of selfishly improving his own life (via accepting immortality/godhood) or overthrowing the gods. Because the conflict isn't about the gods as rulers. It's about the gods as parents.
PJO's core thesis is Percy, who grew up knowing unconditional familial love, looking at this whole world of children who didn't and saying "that's not fair. Gods should be better than this!" But instead of destroying them the way Luke wants to, instead of overthrowing them and putting himself on the throne, he instead challenges them to be better parents and family members. To be part of the solution instead of the problem. And Percy's demands don't solve everything, but they were necessary first steps! Without forcing the gods to acknowledge a bare minimum floor of inclusion, the cycle would simply begin all over again the next time a major conflict popped up.
So that's the problem Percy solves and how he successfully fulfills the prophecy: by believing that the gods had the capacity to change and forcing them to break the cycle of familial abandonment, he preserves Olympus and takes the first steps towards a new status quo, one that is objectively better for demigods than the one he grew up in. That's why he succeeds, and it's why Percy overthrowing the gods would have made for a much less satisfying ending than what actually happened.

happy valentine’s day! could i get something pjo or hades?
a continuation of 1
Sally doesn't understand. "But where's my son?"
His face crumples before smoothing back out.
"Not that you're not my son!" she says hurriedly. Gods, he's going to grow up to look so much like his father. He's going to grow up powerful, which is something Poseidon had warned her about and she thought she'd taken it seriously, but now her almost adult son is in front of her and there's a presence to him that she'd clocked as his father's just as much as his hair and the breadth of his shoulders. "But. My son. When you go back to the future, he'll come back, right?"
"Mom," he starts, then presses his lips together. "I don't know."
She slowly lowers herself onto Percy's bed. Onto her Percy's bed. "Where is he now?"
"If he's still here, he's probably in the underworld," he says.
If. If. Her eyes burn. She'd just been wishing that Percy wasn't seven anymore, but she hadn't meant this.
"I have to go," he says, clearly trying to speak gently to her. "I'll try and find out, okay? I'll send you an Iris message."
"But," she starts, looking up at him. What's she supposed to do? Her son's gone. Her son's right in front of her, but he's leaving too.
He leans down, pressing a kiss to her forehead like he's the parent. "I'm sorry, Mom. I'm really sorry."
~
Percy thinks he might have killed himself.
He tries not to think about it as he dive into the Atlantic, the water surging over and around him as it propel him exactly where he wants to go.
This is a mission that he's not going to survive. He'd known that from the beginning. Persephone had warned him that his life would be forfeit before he'd done it.
He should have listened. He should have taken a single second to think it through before he'd accepted, even if he would have done it anyway, even if it felt like the only option left.
When he'd sat across from Persephone, her clothes black with mourning and a crown she didn't want on her head, he'd already been dead. So it couldn't be his life that was the cost. It had already been paid.
Now his mom is going to have to mourn him twice over. Maybe even three times over, when he dies here too. He's such a terrible kid. She deserves better. Estelle wouldn't do this to her.
Why the hell had she had a kid with a god? They all die young.
He sneaks through the patrol of Atlantis with ease. He knows the schedules and the patterns and nothing is really meant to keep him out anyway.
The armory, the most guarded part of the kingdom, opens at his first touch.
He's a loyal son of Poseidon. Nothing here is forbidden to him.
Granted, that's because they don't know to ward against him specifically, because he's supposed to be ignorant and seven and demigod children don't typically just go strolling into their parents domain.
Riptide is currently with Charon and ironically he'd have a much harder time stealing from him than his father. He walks the length of the armory, eyeing the tridents but moving on. If he wants to keep his parentage a secret, then that's definitely not the way to go.
He goes through about a dozen swords before finding one that feels loose and easy in his hands. It's a bit flashier than Riptide, emeralds along the hilt and interlocking silver patter worked in alongside the bronze.
Paper doesn't do so well underwater, so he scrapes in an IOU into the place the sword had been. Someone's going to notice it missing pretty quickly either way. His dad if he's lucky, Triton if he isn't, but he doesn't have the time to worry about it.
There are three kids out there who are going to need some help getting to Camp Half-Blood in one piece.

Percy Jackson's foundation is problematic
Ok, so, the OG PJO series is amazing for a lot of people. I mean, it's almost as famous as Harry Potter for a reason. It has an immersive world which is escapism which is really nice for a lot of people including me..........
But the series could definitely have been rewritten to be better. Such as not making Annabeth hit Percy so often (only playful hits, no so hard) making Ares love his children, making Artemis NOT SO PREDATORY-
But the thing is, even if the series was rewritten to exclude these.........
The very foundation of the Percy Jackson series is problematic.
The foundation of the Percy Jackson series is about overthrowing an abusive system and making the abusers pay attention and listen, and I'm not saying that that's a bad concept. It's actually one of the best concepts, but-
But it's what Rick Riordan used as an abusive system that's really wrong.
He used the Greek gods as abusive parents when in the myths they were the furthest things from it.
Excuse me. Zeus was not an abusive father to Apollo. He genuinely loved him. He only punished him when Apollo needed to be punished and deserved it. Zeus was a loving father to Artemis as well. He gave her what she requested and let her live in the wild as she pleased. Zeus also stopped Athena from practicing divination at Apollo's request. Zeus would not leave two children with an abusive alcholic mother.
Poseidon was not abusive and neglectful. In the myths, he punished Odysseus for blinding his son Polyphemus. And he let Sciron do as he pleased in the ocean, though Sciron was a terrible person.
Aphrodite frequently came to her son Aeneas' aid on the battlefield of Troy. She loved him very much and even told him to give up LOVE to fulfil his own destiny of becoming a king.
And it also depicts Athena and Hades as having demigod children, when in the myths, Athena has no children at all and Hades is faithful to his wife Persephone, only cheating on her with TWO people in only a few variations of the myths, while other myths have Hades loving Leuce and Minthe before Persephone.
It's problematic for Athena to have demigod children, even brain children, because she was a virgin goddess who had no children in the myths. Ancient Greece associated marriage and having children with losing your virginity.
It was symbolic, so Athena having children, even brain children, makes her lose her virginity.
And about Hades being faithful-he's stated to have had multiple children with women when Persephone goes to her mother, which is why she's so unhappy.
This is incorrect and terribly wrong.
But if Athena and Hades didn't have children, and if the Greek Gods weren't abusive parents, then this series wouldn't exist. These problematic themes are essential to the story, which is why PJO is so problematic itself.
Not to mention the whole 'flame of the West' crap that is a big collective forehead smacking moment.
So even if Percy Jackson could be rewritten, it'll always be problematic in one way or another.
(Not saying that you shouldn't enjoy it. I have a love-hate relationship with it).

What if Percy children like all them reverse Isekai into pjo world like all them got sent to camp half blood oh man those poor campers and poor Chiron also 😭 (I don't feel bad for Mr d he deserves get bullied by all them😆 ) and even better what if in the timeline where the still searching Percy and then saw her children who look like Percy get mistaken for Percy (which i highly doubt that since I think Antonius would know Percy the best plus grover )
depending on the which kid gets sent to them... camp is SCREWED 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
the pjo characters however won't mistake the kids as percy, even the girls that look more like her. why? because the percy they know is a regular demigod. she's hot af yes, but her children are GODS and they literally look unearthly perfect. the second one of the demigods see them, they're gonna know "oh shit. this is a god. why is a god here?"
(plus they're not like... lookalikes really, they just share most of percy's traits like her sea green eyes, black hair, and/or brown skin, they're not near copies of her tbh 😅)
now anyway, let's say the kids get isekai-ed and land right in camp! they spend some time there and somehow some way the campers realize that this kid may or may not be connected to percy in a rather... concerning way
axiandros: for this scenario it'd HAVE to be mr. d who finds him because if it were any of the campers, they'd fucking die 💀 the only reason he's staying in this camp is because it's connected to the gods and he wants answers as to why he's in this strange universe. he also introduces himself as the son of poseidon... and PERCILLA 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 naturally, everyone freaks the fuck out and starts showing him pics of their percy, HOPING he says it's a different person but no.... his mother really IS their percy and somehow she gets knocked up by an alt!poseidon (pjo!poseidon's in shambles rn 💀). anyway, he's a very unhappy camper lmao. everyone's avoiding him not just because he's dangerous, but also because he's THEIR percy's kid.... and they're not liking the implications of his birth
kymon: reserved, but not dangerous at least. he stays to himself at the camp, quiet and observing. he has -10000 hopes in the gods of the universe finding a way to send him back home (he was there for one of the olympus meetings and realized these gods can't get ANYTHING done to save their lives 💀). he doesn't tell anyone much about himself but easily picks up on the fact that the percy they're looking for is actually his mother. he knows he should be trying to find a way back, but he can't help but learn more about what his mother was like before she was sent to their universe. anthonius is the first to get sus; this strange god doesn't seem to care about anything but the second percy's brought up (someone kymon shouldn't know), he perks up and pays attention????? 🤨
thalassandros: the instant people see him, with pjo!poseidon's features, they immediately knew he was a godly son of poseidon 😂 so in to the poseidon cabin he goes while the gods scramble and try to figure out what to do with him. now, remember, the only demigod kid poseidon has is PERCY so all the stuff in that cabin is hers. she has photos of herself and her friends on the walls and thalassandros zeroes in on that, freaks out, and barges into the big house demanding answers like "hey why the fuck do you weirdos have pictures of my mom back when she was a kid all over that ugly ass cabin?!?!?!?! 👹🔱" and that's how everyone finds out he's percy's son 😭😭😭😭😭
pontoleon: rude and abrasive up until they find out that he's somehow a son of poseidon that he didn't know about and he gets sent to stay at the poseidon cabin. poor kid's absolutely terrified. he has NO idea what this poseidon is like, but he just cannot stay in that cabin. so he avoids it, fearing that this poseidon would be just as horrible as his father 💔 he spends most of his time in the lake, avoiding everyone, even the nymphs that live there. ppl quickly pick up that he's weirdly avoidant whenever the topic of poseidon comes up; he's usually quite rude and huffy but the second someone mentions poseidon, he clams up and tries to leave. it isn't until he finally musters up the courage to step into the poseidon cabin does he finally see percy's pictures and it clicks that the missing girl they've been looking for was actually his MOTHER. now the poor kid's even more terrified. should he tell anyone? would this poseidon hurt him too??? someone help this poor god 😭
eudorios: the demigods like him! he's charming and sweet and lowkey reminds them all of percy in a way! he's surprisingly rather chill for a god; he eats with them, trains with them (he takes it SUPER easy tho for obvious reasons), and he even offers swim lessons! it's obvious that this kid is some kind of sea god but they've never heard of a god named "eudorios" before (he tells them to call him "dory" if they wanna!). chiron, mr. d, anthonius, and nico are kinda sus about him. he seems like a genuinely decent dude, but there's just something... off about him. mr. d is even worse because he can literally sense the insanity in this kid. a mentally unstable god randomly showing up in camp and none of the gods know who he is? anyway, things take a turn when he finds out that they've been missing a camper for several years now and then he sees the photo and tilts his head like a puppy with a deadly look in his eyes, "Oh? you're looking for MY mother? and what do you want with her, hmm? 😊"
cearbhall: the gods are at a loss because WHYYYY is there a CELTIC god at the GREEK camp for demigods?????? the greeks are calling up the irish like "yo one of ur kids got lost, can you come pick him up?" and they're like "uh wtf are you talking about" 😭😭😭😭 anyway, like father like son, he would ABSOLUTELY mess around with the girls at the aphrodite cabin but while he's ahem 'sleeping over', he finds pictures of his MOM in one of the picture frames and loses it (he inherited cú chulainn's overprotective tendencies when it came to the women/girls in his family 😭): "WHY DO YOU HAVE PICTURES OF MY MOTHER?! ARE YOU STALKING HER?! I'LL KILL YOU!" "YOUR WHO NOW?!" and that's how the aphrodite cabin nearly gets slaughtered 💀
luisne: she terrorizes everyone 😭😭😭 she terrorizes the demigods, the satyrs, the nymphs, chiron, and mr. d. and when mr. d called up olympus to deal with her, she terrorized them too 😭😭😭😭 she HATES camp half-blood. everything is UGLY and SHITTY, the closest thing to "luxury" is the aphrodite cabin but everything there is just that cheap ass human brands they call "high quality". olympus is begging the celtic pantheon to PLEASE pick this child up, but they have no idea who they're talking about and they could hear luisne screeching in the background so there's no way they'd take her in either 😭
ponyo: bless her 😭💖💖 the only percy baby so far to actually be a decent person so she definitely WON'T give the camp a hard time 🥺💖💖💖💖 polite, well-behaved, tho a little reckless at times, she's probably one of the kindest gods they've ever met. she's so helpful too; she saved one of the kids from drowning at the lake and decided to try and teach the kids how to swim 💖 also gained a long list of admirers (lol she really is percy's kid 😂). anthonius is the only one sus of her, not because he thinks she's bad tho! it's just... odd..... she claims be a greek and celtic goddess, but ponyo isn't a greek or celtic name. it IS however, the name of percy's fav ghibli movie........ and he knows percy would happily name her kids after it no matter how ridiculous it sounded....... and ponyo has percy's features........ unable to take it anymore, he straight up asks her "who exactly are your parents?" and she happily says, to the disbelief of EVERYONE AT CAMP, "oh, my mother is Percilla and my father is Cú Chulainn! ☺️"
luke: now... you see, the LAST person at camp to be named luke brought kronos back from tartarus and started a revolution that nearly ended the world..... and in this universe, names are VERY important...... so for some random scary god to show up years after their savior disappears, with the SAME NAME as the one who nearly destroyed them.... well, you can imagine how tense they all are 😭😭😭 especially, anthonius. cuz luke is very clearly a god, but "luke" is not a godly name. plus, he has all of percy's features. it doesn't take anthonius that long to come to the conclusion that this god could possibly be percy's son, SOMEHOW, who she named after their fallen friend/traitor luke 💀

pjo episode four parts that made me scream
Them starting with sally trying teach percy how to swim and percy being scared is fantastic for two reasons: number one, its a normal kid thing and number two it ties into later in the books when we find out percy has a fear of drowning. Its like hoe thalia has a fear of heights and kind of ties into the idea that forbidden children are often afraid of some part of their parents element. I love that theyre bringing in elements of that idea so early!!!
percy’s “can i ask a stupid question” and annabeths “are you trying to make me make fun of you” akdbdkbaaksbdkjsbakks shes so funny
I LOVE THAT THEY BRING UP PAN AND SPECIFICALLY TIE HIM TO MANIFEST DESTINY AND AMERICAS HISTORY OF KILLING ITS INDIGENOUS PEOPLE!!!! ITS IMPORTANT FUCKING HISTORY AND IM SO GLAD THE SHOW ACKNOWLEDGED IT
percy and annabeths little banter, percys stupid accent and then him collapsing on her. That and the scene where theyre talking on the train is the percabeth we deserve!!!!!! God i love them so much
ALSO going back to the scene where theyre talking in bed on the train i love how annabeth knows that grovers grumpy in the morning and percy doesnt. Grover was her protector once too!! (Like they said last episode) and theyve traveled together before!! He was annabeths friend before he was percys
ok everyones already said this but the parallels between annabeth and medusa?!!??? With medusa saying “i was you” last episode and now annabeth getting punished for something percy did ghe same was medusa was punished for something Poseidon did????? Absolutely insane i love it
also the fact that it hurt athenas pride specifically, much like how medusa mentioned the “pride of athena” in reference to annabeth last episode, which all ties back to the fact that hubris is annabeths fatal flaw and she gets it from her mother
THE CUT TO PERCY IN THE FOUNTAIN AND THEM SPLASHING WATER ON HIM AHSKSBJAHAJSJSB theyre so funny for that
Percy just looks like a wet rag this episode and its so well done you can even tell the makeup on his face was done to make him appear paler and sicklier and it works so well
ok PERCY PULLING ANNABETH INTO THE STAIRWELL AND SHUTTING THE DOOR???? Because hes loyal to a fault!!!! And theyre becoming friends!!!!!!!!! And he cares about her more in like a week than athena ever has and its shown to us so clearly in this episode!!!!!!
ONCE AGAIN LUKES MOTIVATIONS ARE GOING TO MAKE SO MUCH SENSE BY THE TIME WE GET TO THE END OF THIS AND WE DONT EVEN HAVE TO SPEND TIME WITH HIM TO UNDERSTAND THEM god this series is so well done
Also the chimeras design looks so cool i love it so much
AND WE FINALLY GET AN ANSWER AS TO HOW PERCY GOT IN THE RIVER FROM THE TOP OF THE ARCH!! (At least in the tv world, in the book world the arch might very well just be in a different spot lol)
Poseidon saves him!! Hes a better parent than athena is apparently
god the episode ending with percy breathing underwater is so good i was on the edge of my seat until the very end
OK LAST THING is that they are continuing the theme sally brings up about monsters not always looking like monsters and heroes not always looking like heroes so well!!! Echidna bringing it up and saying that to her, demigods are more dangerous was fantastic i love how dedicated they are to this
OK ACTUALLY THE LAST THING i love the dichotomy of different mothers in this episode. We start with sally and percy and immediately see how much they love each other and care about each other!!!! Then we get to echidna who cares about her children too by teaching them to hunt!!! And then we get athena who ducking punishes annabeth for something she didnt even do. And its like. That was a little monstrous athena. Im understanding why someone might want to kill their godly parent
GOD THIS SERIES IS SO GOOD

gen question, what are your opinions on each of the Olympians (you don't have to but plz separate for each god cause I'm really interested
Lmao dw, although I should warn you many of my opinions are the same or very similar on them, so I shortened parts and left others out (elaboration at the end) ZEUS - Tyrannt king who's no better than Kronos in terms of personality who deserves to be overthrown. HERA - Cruel woman who yes, is hurt and props mistreated by Zeus and his actions, but still takes her anger out on innocent people. Also deserves to be overthrown
HADES - Upholding and unjust system who may somewhat be okay to Nico, but still is a shitty parent. He litteraly wanted to force Nico to become the Hero of the Great Prophecy for his own gain despite believing the hero would die. Deserves to be overthrown, and have CPS called on him. POSEIDON - A "nice" dictator is still a dictator y'all. Uses and treats mortal life just as carelessly as everyone else. Him being a good father to Percy does not make him a good guy or someone who is a good ruler. I mean just look at his r*pe bodycount plz DEMETER - Negelctful parent who uses her children as much as canon fodder as everyone else. Helps to uphold an unjust system that uses and abuses literal children and their mortal parents while activley benefiting from it.
APHRODITE - Negelctful parent who also uses and abuses her children. Just because she talked to Piper and helped her dad doesn't make her a good person or mother. The main reason for that is that she does not give that same level of attention and care to the rest of her children- picking favorites is not suddenly "okay" or "cool" just because your favorite character happens to be the favorite child.
ATHENA - Negelectful parent who uses her kids as cannon fodder. And not only that but she's also exceptionally irresponsible considering how she just dumps kids on completely unprepared parents and leaves not helping any further. Ontop of that she's also incredibly prideful and assumes she has some right to meddle with her kids' lives. 90% of the gods deserve to be overthrown but she also deserves a kick in the balls from Annabeth ontop. ARTEMIS - I made multiple posts about how creepy she is already. Borderline creep in her way of specifically going after younger girls. Also not yet sure she ain't leading a borderline cult with the Hunters of Artemis. Also the way she is about men violates so many human rights. Joining her Hunters would be a living nightmare for me, knowing she'd be my patron goddess if I lived in PJO makes me glad she's fictional. Helps to uphold and profits from a system literally killing kids. APOLLO - Helps to uphold a system that's literally killing kids and benefits from it. He uses demigod lives as cannon fodder too. Him "loving" his partners and children does not change the fact that he just leaves/abandons both of them if the kid doesn't happen to be a favorite of his. Jury's still out on him post-TOA and redemtion. If he actively does something against the system to help the demigods or atleast attempts to do we're god. If he doesn't he's even worse than the rest bc now he doesn't even have the "he didn't know any better" excuse. ARES - OG reason I wish Luke won unironically. Tyrant, jerk, probably abusive and misogynistic????? Also the typical case of using his kids as cannon fodder. Neglectful parent 101. HEPHAESTUS - IDK if he talked and helped Leo and said he "watches all his children". He did not help any other of his kids like that, no good father EVER employs even a SMIGE of favoritism. You can watch your kids all you want, if you continue to ignore them, use them as cannon fodder, and actively benefit from the system killing them that makes you a weird stalker at best. But most certainly not a good father OR person. HERMES - I have never seen someone fumble the bag so hard like??? Honestly he deserve a TROPHY for being able to mess up so incredibily much with Luke and May 💀 At this point you can really only describe the guy as inept. He for real just left his innocent newborn son with a woman he KNEW was insane completely alone for no reason??? AND THEN BLAMED LUKE FOR LEAVING HIS MOM/NOT LIKING HER????? Listen idk if he "couldn't have interfered without making it worse" and if it was against some ancient law. Poseidon interferes with Percy a BUNCH even when he was under a prophecy for multiple of his quests and everything turned out fine. Hermes loved Luke, unfortunately he just had a room-temperature IQ. He is also a neglectful parent who uses his kids as cannon fodder- he couldn't care less about any other child of his not named "Luke Castellan". Favoritism still ain't cool my man DIONYSUS - May genuinly care about his kids and all, but he still basically trains up a demigod child army and uses them as cannon fodder. Helps to uphold the system. Litteraly shoves his job at camp off to the kids while being a straight up asshole- no wonder did so many kids turn when HE was their one and only example for a god. EXTRA INFO
I think that "helps to uphold an unjust system" and "actively benifits from a system that uses kids as cannon fodder with no regards for them" honestly applies to EVERY god with exception of Hestia and the minor gods who joined the TA. They are also all dictators to some degree- remember everybody: A NICE DICTATOR IS STILL A DICTATOR. IF THEY WERE A GOOD PERSON THEY WOULDN'T BE A DICTATOR! I hate the gods for real. Although personally in terms of hate everyone get's an equal amount, but Artemis creeps me out the MOST. (Can I get a restraining order against a goddess?)
