Krispy Pizza - College Ave in New Brunswick, NJ
Krispy Pizza is supposedly a "go-to" pizza spot of sorts in New Brunswick. I had seen some incredible looking pictures of their slices online and it's been on my list to check out for a few months now. I've passed before because normally when I'm in town I go to Wings Over for arguably the best wings I've ever had in the Tri-State area. HOWEVER they were closed that day and since I still had some time to kill I figured it was time to try Krispy.
Unfortunately, it seems like Krispy is all hype and no substance. They had some really unique options including the two I got: a Fat Krispy (essentially a fat sandwich in pizza form) and a sicilian pepperoni vodka with hot honey on top. Unfortunately, the uniqueness ended up being their downfall as the amount of competing flavors on each slice pretty much ruined them. The Fat Krispy had the same problem as a fat sandwich where all the flavors blend together and you don't really taste anything. The pepperoni had kind of the opposite effect where you taste a little too much of everything. It was hot from the honey but also creamy from the vodka and honestly it made me feel kind of nauseous. On top of all that, these slices are just too expensive for that kind of mediocrity. I paid close to $10 for two VERY mid slices of pizza. If I ever find myself in the area again I might try a plain, but I am in no rush to go back. There is much better (and cheaper) pizza elsewhere in New Brunswick.

the air felt different like the calm after a storm and truthfully it was. that storm being the break-up with someone she had thought would be in her life until their breath stilled. no reason he still couldn’t be even now, perhaps the pair better destined as friends. time heals all wounds doesn’t it? months seemed to fly before her eyes until it was coming up close to a year of separation. familiar fluttering sensation built up inside her empty stomach while the all too familiar sound of her own heartbeat thumping against her rib cage was drowning out the surrounding sounds. another busy wednesday night with the loud roaring cheers and boos of the crowd beyond the doors and curtains. in search of the silent and stoic expression boy that had somehow captured both her attention and heart with a smile that only few could evoke. conversation had become easier once the mean girl wall had been lowered - no longer fiercely protective of herself to allow him inside those four chambers of the very heart that was still mending even a year later. found reclining in a chair inside the catering area with an empty plate of food, utensils placed neatly atop and a bag of chips opened while the focus was on a phone screen so he wouldn’t hear her approaching. a shaky inhale and even shakier exhale as she took her own seat across the table with a soft clearing of her throat.
“we need to talk about this. this being you and me.”

New Brunswick: South Shore
My first break along the highway into New Brunswick was at Grand Falls, where there's benches next to the not-that-grand-but-still-impressive waterfalls. When I was here in 2010, I was stunned to realize that there's an hour time difference between NB & QC but I had now planned my driving schedule accordingly (I did check with the tourist info just to make sure I got it right!😃).
Next stop was for gas in Hartland which boasts to have the longest covered bridge in the world, but instead I found the shortest one besides the gas station 😅, courtesy of the chips factory next door. Getting tired from the driving already, I decided not to search for the long one, as I would undoubtedly see more on my trip (seen two since then).
I had been recommended to take the old highway from Fredericton to Saint John along the river, which was definitely worth it; not only did it have great views but I also suddenly saw something big along the road, thinking "funny, those people put up a statue of a moose on their driveway" (it's quite common to see sculptures of deer, roosters or scarecrows at driveway entrances, presumably to make it easier to find), so I continued at full speed ahead... A few second later, thinking "what if it's not actually a statue??" I slowed down and it turned out to be a real moose after all!! It didn't move, apart from twitching its ears when I got closer and then finally it made a few steps when I had stopped to take a picture. Amazing!!
After getting to the cabin at New River Beach provincial park, I went for a walk along the beach, which has apparently the best sand in the south, and then I sat down with a well-deserved beer & dinner looking out on the Bay of Fundy. It was cold that evening so happy to sit inside a cabin for a change!
Next day there was a thick fog that didn't disappear until 10am, so I made my way to St Andrews warmly dressed but luckily within an hour the sun came through. I spent quite some time at the Kingsbrae Gardens as they were really pretty so will create a separate post with a collage of pictures from there. Walked around the historic downtown (I always love murals!) and had pizza on a bench overlooking the harbour.
I was waiting for the low tide to kick in to drive over to Ministers Island, which can only be accessed by driving over a sandbar. I initially thought it was a bit of a marketing stunt until a car in front of me got stuck in the soft wet sand, so I then made sure to follow someone who seemed to be a local!
The entire island used to be property of Sir William Van Horne, whom I had never heard of, but who was an influential man; not only did he design & construct the railway across Canada (6 years ahead of schedule), he also was key in convincing government to designate national parks (starting with Banff to attract rich tourists for the train, so as usual it was for the money but the environment and us all benefited from it as well 😃) and was an avid painter, Japanese bowl collector, violinist and inventor amongst others. A so-called Renaissance man except that he apparently did not appreciate his daughter, favouring the younger son and grandson instead... So much for being a truly great guy! 😜
Besides the 50-room house, the island contains also a pretty bathhouse with a tidal pool in front of it (with the warm sand heating the incoming tide), a windmill well and a carbide gas generator (for lighting in the house) as well as a 3-storey barn for prize-winning horses and cattle... impressive!
Having made it back to the mainland, I had a great evening with Bob, Diane and their daughter Laura at a delicious Thai restaurant in Saint John... I had met Bob in 2019 when starting a new project for work and wesrayed connected through his son-in-law Duncan who worked for the vendor for several years, we clicked somehow 🤩.
The following day it rained instead of fog 😒 so after having done my laundry I headed to Saint John for sightseeing there. Bob had recommended to visit the Reversing Falls, which are not actual falls so not much to take a photo of, but a location where you can see the water flow upstream against the current when it becomes high tide... the direction of the water seemed wrong though compared to the tidetable, and we later discovered that evening that the bottleneck of the river creates a 2.5 to 4hr delay in the tides between the Reversing Falls and the open harbour less than a kilometer away... It took us some brainstorming over a bottle of wine but we figured out why without Google! 😉
I walked around the City Market, historic streets and Market Square for a bit until the rain started in earnest and then had haddock cakes & a beer at Britt's, a local favorite restaurant.
In the afternoon, I met Duncan and Laura at their home along the Kennebecasis River and had a great time on their boat, seeing tens of jumping sea bass and sturgeon in what is basically their backyard. Being able to work mostly from home in such a place is a luxury beyond words and I'm grateful to have experienced it. Bob & Diane came over for dinner which consisted of great conversations over seared scallops and a traditional lobster boil, my first one! 💖
Having been pampered at their place, I set off in the morning for the last stretch of untamed wilderness along New Brunswick's south shore; the Fundy Trail. Before that however, I met this friendly gentleman who lives at Duck Pond Beach who explained about the history of Split Rock (and who purchased his property at the beach for $10,000 40 years ago!) and had lunch at the St Martins sea caves, passing enroute through a covered bridge 😍
By the time I got to the Fundy trail the rain had changed into a thunderstorm (which always scares me) so I ended up waiting it out for an hour at the interpretative centre & learned about a historic sawmill village. The Fundy trail has tons of impressive nature, including vistas over the shoreline, waterfalls and famous Long Beach which extends for half a kilometer at low tide...better not venture too far out when the tide comes back up! The last stop within the trailway was at the Eye of the Needle Gorge which can be seen from an observation platform high over the valley.
Very last stop of the day was at Cape Enrage, which I had expected to be as wild as the Capes in Newfoundland but this was rather tame and uninteresting as it's managed foremost as a zipline adventure park... the beach nearby was pretty though! After the mostly rainy day, I was happy to sit in the settting sun on the deck of my camping cabin overlooking a little pond 🤗.
This morning I'll briefly visit the Hopewell Rocks, where I've kayaked several years ago at high tide and then walked on the ocean floor at low tide a few hours later. It's very impressive to visualize the tide difference but it's even higher on the other, deeper side of the bay so won't dwell too long here because I can't wait to explore Nova Scotia next!
This is already the end of my second week travelling... distance driven this week: 1729 km
Wildlife: 1 moose (along the road), 2 turkey (Fundy Trail), 1 rabbit (Hopewell Rocks)
SUPs: none
Hikes: 3 small ones but all with stairs or steep uphill 😒 (along the Fundy Trail)

Dipped in Foreign Lands; An Exercise in Image Storytelling
The beginning of an offering of consolidated thoughts, photos, slices of life in between rocks, more photos, and general going.
Preface.
With an elongated farewell, a month passed before I departed the country. This time wasn’t spent finding accomodation, or sorting bank cards as it probably should have been. No, instead there was lots of relaxing, music, surfing, watching the NBA playoffs and organising of the hoards gathering dust in my parents cupboards. It wasn't until the final 2 days that the urgency of packing life into a bag for the foreseeable future became a priority.
It was done though, thanks to my loving housemates who provided a ‘jacpac’ for its potential to be filled. 2 jackets, 6 t-shirts, 2 brother-made garments, 2 shirts, 2.5 pairs of shoes, 2 cameras, a recording kit (regrettable now…), synthesiser (also marginal…), 400 leaves of paper, and a whole lot of other possessions that I probably didn’t need to pack. I felt sad to think of time apart from some things, but their absence will drift like the main themes of Toy Story (1998).
I write this now sitting at a glass dining table enclosed in a small house-in-progress situated on a piece of land in Almagreira. There are dogs barking next door, and many flies darting around the area. It has been 2 weeks since leaving Aotearoa, so I would like to tell you how I have been, and how it’s being seen. Through the lens of a digital camera (and the occasional iPhone pic).
1 Melbourne
As early birds get worms, I had an early flight to Naarm on 01/06/2023. Melbourne waited a bounty of friends, sandwiches, musical sharing, long walks, and pizza. A social extension on a Friday saw our Mouthfull ‘Live at Capers’ residence with a jovial group of deejays providing a space for listening, dancing - and a great meeting point for people to come together over some Mastika & Moussaka worthy of a trophy made of pure 1 million carat gold.
Tyler and I would also have so much fun playing songs on the radio for breakfast over 2 days (links below for listening). For breakfast we ate toast with avocado and tomato, and for breakfast radio we listened to a mixture of jazz, folk, new wave, ambient, worldly music with a sprinkling of a few classic ballads of course.
Sleeping on the sofa was comfortable after some cushion amendments and some wine. We would spend our days walking and talking in Carlton North, relaxing and imagining. Our best meal together was from the Sri Lankan spot, Citrus, where you can find a banquet of vegan smorgasbord for $15.
Once the event was said and done, a recovery in the mornings light was aided with a walk to the felafel shop to meet again with Olive. Hearing of her news in between bites brought great happiness and love.
The following day, I met with Poppy. We were to find a place in Brunswick for a coffee; opting for some breakfast too at Kines. While we were there, I would think of Denzel for his obsession with the cafe. His voice would riddle through echoes from the past. After our breakfast, we walked up and down, crossing Sydney road 3 times, turning corners, and entering discount food stores to browse the obscure flavours of pringles and chocolate. The day was hot and the walk long. Navigating our bodies to Ceres we rummaged through bike parts and found entertainment in a cat in the chicken coup. It was a pleasant walk, except the moderate panic when I left my jacket on a park bench with all money and devices embezzled in the pockets.
After all the catching up, walking, wandering; I caught a train down to Torquay to visit an old friend, Isabelle. It was strange down there considering last time was around 5 years ago staying in a resort not dissimilar to vaudeville. However, we would go for a long walk to discover an amazing mosaic sundial (designed by artist Claire Gittings - whom I have no known lineage to - but am probably related somehow).
With conversations over a cafe breakfast of my conviction against mining, we would enjoy each others' company in a true taurus manner. I would stay in her house near Marshall and meet her love, and we would have a Spanish soup next to a brazen colour changing fire in a brazier. A casket of red wine was ordered for $10 and delivered promptly, while it wasn't exactly even middle of the road it was a fine drink.
Finally, a pizza evening at Leonado's with Harrison & Andre. Some of the best pizza you will try, the Italian community in Carlton is a reliable source. Twas a welcome carbohydrate to carry forward into the nights digestion on what was to be my last night in Naarm. I bought Tyler a Toblerone to thank him for my stay, and the constant trickling of happy travel wishes would soon be finished with a final embrace.
And so it was, as it was, an extended layover in a city being taken over by sandwich shops and wine bars. It was to be the takeoff point to the north, an expansion to signify the changing of place from previous programming. The world outside was luminous and the air filled with a freshness known to mother nature so much more well than ceiling fans.

Talking Heads - Life During Wartime LIVE!
youtube
My son was choking a little bit and he had a big problem and he woke up and he could hardly breathe and he was joking choking and he woke himself up so he's starting to learn how to do that pretty good we were watching and we saw him do it so we get that and she was watching and saw him do it it's really slow it says you didn't have to make the noise that bad but it was a little constricted and it's true but we're getting to this and we do have some announcements we can make
-each and every ship of size of the stone chips are under siege and be at the clones or the max and have huge armies at them and all day and night and they're not coming and going from those ships except for up north no they're stuck up there and they have to use up their fuel no, they are feeling them with other ships and they use tons of threats to do it we think they're going to launch this go around and the curiosity in New Brunswick is bringing huge armies to that hole and they're more luck and they might get a ship they're pressuring like madness and they're pushy and the whole here is being investigated and they can't believe it that they escaped probably tomorrow's and others to Saturn and they don't know where else and they're going ahead and trying to press to try and figure it out. They are looking at Venus now as a place where she escaped to and no one else can get to and understanding it may have been a role model and he says no they didn't know about that and he didn't know about them escaping it's kind of how they are and it is going to be an adventure they say. There are a lot of people going to those ships to fight huge huge numbers and a lot of them are trained and it is going to be a vast war up in the northern area coming up any moment now and I hear that fighting has started against the clones in Ernest and it is a massive massive fight and those ships might be forced out within the next few days hopefully and also
-there's a massive massive fight going on in the Western hemisphere with the pseudo empire over their bases and bunkers and they are resisting and they have not lost anything yet and they're still holding their percentages if not bolstering some areas a huge Force came down to Georgia and stayed there and went over to Alabama too and another one is coming down it's massive there's several of these that are heading down this way from the north and they're moving it too they also bolstered additionally the blockade it is intense and it's getting bigger and it will get much larger by tomorrow morning because there's this fierce flotilla that's going to come over and they can't do much about the clone ships at this time yet
-additionally people are or the warlock are attacking the Mac bunker complexes and they are attacking the caverns for stuff. They have not broken into one. But they have gotten very good looks at many of them and all of them and to motivate the past information around on the ones that they could see and they have great pictures and they have estimates and they have scams of the ones they couldn't get too close to and they have huge huge numbers of items it's way more than they think was down there they're getting very aggressive and they're training people like madness and bja is up finally and he said I've got so much motivation for this stuff I could probably hire the my grand nephew and his cadre of engineers and he says he'd have to fix my groin if I'm going to go to Star Trek academy. And I'm laughing about it if you could wear special pants and he says I don't think so and that was bja and it's kind of an argument it's like no it's just fix it it said the steam will come out even though it's polyester. At the laundromat they said we're going to have to start our own and son and daughter said how about the Pizza Hut and it says it's not bad idea and they said why not you said yeah you make you bring like models in that are big and you have like a class A Junior college and it said well we're going to try that and actually decided to try it. And they're going ahead of it. And they're trying to recruit by doing that. There's some other things happening
-the empire is going to strike back and yeah it's kind of a joke because I'm saying it on purpose but really they're going to and really it's going to be the pseudo empire right now and they're going to fire on them and they're going to stop them from attacking they said and in the Western hemisphere they made no progress and it's been a few hours then more luck and I used to it and they're confused and Counter-Strike is going to be starting soon
-we have a lot of people who are confused about what they're doing and they're out here wondering what they should be doing they just keep bothering our son and it bothers our daughter it is an incredible number of idiots circling around him saying stupid s*** blaming him for all sorts of dumb things and say he's doing this and doing that and our son is just say yeah I guess I am and they won't stop doing it and they have to and they're criminally their criminal offenses and we're going to bring them to court and tell them to stop doing it Trump is a massive offender and his group is dying rapidly he's doing everything that's wrong not one thing he's doing is correct and he is going to be in trouble shortly so that's happening right now
-the tapestry of the war has changed a little the pseudo empire is gaining energy and strength and is going after these guys and in a much more progressive Way they got a big boost today and they were saying things to each other we can do this we're going to have energy for it we're the ones with the car and we have a lot of these cars we're the ones who are going to see it and we're going to grab it and we're the ones who have the way to do it and they started to tell each other we're not going to invite over this and Tim Doyle says I have a whole bunch of them and I've got enough I had any more it's not going to work at all and they saw him one two three and they get it and they're going to try and use it for themselves they're going to have them go around the people that look like John travolta. This is going to be an exciting time for everybody because everything has been so stagnant the factories are going to open any minute now there's going to be tons of factories will be forced to infiltrate and hire massive numbers that's what we need he's sitting there pushing and pushing like a Little tike and all of a sudden had success and was almost in tears and I heard Hera and she was bawling almost sobbing and she said my husband is in trouble and I can hear him and he said I don't know what's going to happen but I did a great thing and she said you did a great thing and didn't say anything else and she knows he's in trouble and they need to do these things we lifted our heads and we said max want to be rid of them and she felt better and he kind of figured it out and said they've always been trying to do this and they let him in kind of but it's not really true but they are going to do it and they said it's better because they're just not sitting there and they think they can take them all out pretty easily they have confidence and then people think they're dangerous and they are getting rid of a lot of them but it was a moment in history then he put the song on there and almost everybody here exploded with joy and so we did a good job we've been holding him and his damn dangerous and hard and it finally pays off is laughing dangerous you need information and you're just sitting there blind so Jenna put it out there this is why and it's coming out two days from now you get a ton of it and that's today and she said thank you very much and he says you're welcome and we're not compatible and she's smirking and she's saying you're a liar all sorts of things and ask Brian he's a geneticist and so they're arguing right now thank God he says that's what's all about.
-huge numbers went today in the foreigners that open up an alley and they close it and they go through and they March in it's an incredible side I haven't seen anything like this for thousands of years I've never seen armies yield like this for a very long time I've never seen this kind of action it is bizarre it gives me a weird feeling I know it all is and I'm not nervous about it but the way that he did it is just amazing but he says he's been working with his father his papa means and other papas and they have a relationship and they understood what he said and they're glad they did it and they can watch and monitor and keep it plugged while they're down there and it works for all of us it was a thing of beauty says he got help and he needed it but boy was it a good thing so we're going on now and we're going to publish

Trivia: 1998 is when "Mutts" started to stink. Therefore, it's when "Mixed Breeds" starts to soar.

And in "Total Eclipse of the Brain", Muffin and Nancy telepathically fight for Columbia's love.

In "Mixed Breeds in Paris", Bearl and Muffin go to Paris and find it's not too different from home. In "What to Mixpect When You're Dixpecting", the duo encounters Dixie's baby brother. In "The Sphinx", Muffin acts as a psychic sphinx.

In the story "Fulsome Prison Blues", the duet gets arrested at Brunswick's behest because it's secure. In "Show and/or Tell", the duo becomes Dixie's show-and-tell consultants.

Taco Bell Bombshell: One Man's Fight Against Serving Sizes
By Gregory Martinez, Rutgers University–New Brunswick Class of 2026
August 14, 2023
n a class action lawsuit filed on July 31st, Siragusa and his lawyers attack Taco Bell about various items on their menu that have an alleged disconnect between actual serving size and serving size advertised online and in stores. The complaint cites various photos from real customers found off Reddit and YouTube to argue that Taco Bell repeatedly misrepresents their products. If Siragusa had known the amount of food that was really present in the Mexican Pizza, perhaps he would not have purchased said item, meaning that Taco Bell made financial gain off his misfortune. Siragusa requested $5 million in damages to be split among the class, and the case remains to be given a court date.
