What the Water Gave Me

Her nan told her she was born of the sea, though she never said more than that. Born with a voice, lovely and enchanting, but powerful and haunting, Andromeda mostly kept to herself, electing to sing only to the sea, where none could hear her and fall under its power. When one night the sea instead chooses to drag her away, it let her surface two hundred and seventy years later, and she's thrown into chaos. From cursed dead men aboard the ruins of a ship, to an eccentric self-serving pirate, a young scientist and a lad who claims his father is the captain of The Flying Dutchman, they race to find the Trident of Poseidon, to break their curses and try not to die in the process.

"I've been told you have... pertinent information." He poured himself a generous finger of brandy. "And I must say, you've made a wise choice in coming to me..."

He finally turned to look at her, just as she slipped the hood from her head.

Scarfield froze.

The brandy glass fell from his fingers, smashing into several wet fragments on the floor...

According to Ovid's Metamorphoses, the Oneiroi (or Oneiri) were the name given to the children of Hypnos, the god of sleep.

Hypnos was said to live in a cave in the underworld, and from this cave came the River Lethe, whose waters had the power to make one forget everything.

For El Infierno, I reimagined the children of Hypnos as non-human creatures who are still able to pass as human in the sunlight, but on the nights of a full moon (just like werewolves) they absolutely return to their real forms and are driven to feed - especially if they are forcing themselves to remain in human form the rest of the time, and therefore are not meeting their 'dietary requirements' regularly.

I created similar abilities between the Oneiroi in El Infierno: such as the ability to hypnotise, the ability to mentally and physically paralyse (similar to the heavy feeling you get when you fall asleep), and the ability to devour the life force of their victims by literally eating it out of them as the victim is paralysed.

They also have other abilities: like stealing memories, sending nightmares, and living for a Very Long Time; which, unfortunately, I did not have time to pursue more in El Infierno. Pacing reasons and such.

(A/N: this is a continuation of my one shot “secrets of a commodore”, i suggest reading that one first if you haven��t.)

A knock,

a sound so small and quite yet able to pull even a grown man out of his thoughts,

Another Knock,

Norrington stared at the door, nervousness flooded his system, he knew Elizabeth was on the other end of the door but he couldn’t bring himself to go open it.

his maid Sampson went to open the door, Elizabeth Swann the woman who he was asking to marry not so much as two hours ago walked into his house, “how are you feeling?” her voice was quiet and calming, “i’ll admit not well” he whispered gazing up at her with pained eyes.

she smiled sympatheticly going to sit down next to him on his couch, “it’s alright” she reassured as she gently squeezed his arm,

he stared at his lap not able to keep the tears in any longer, he sobbed uncontrollably,

Elizabeth pulled him into a hug, in her eight years of knowing the man she had never seen him show much emotion, much less cry.

“james i’m so-“ she was interrupted by a loud bang on the front door, James pulled away from Elizabeth and wiped away the tears streaming down his face, “I’ll see who it is” his voice was rough and his face was sorrowful. Elizabeth followed distantly as Norrington walked towards the door, there he stood facing it unsure of whether he should open it or not.

“open the door Norrington we know you’re in there” Antians voice boomed, Norringtons hand shakily went to the doorknob carefully opening the oak door. there Captain Antian stood on the step with at five guards behind him, “do what must be done” the Captain ordered the guards who pushed passed Elizabeth and Norrington entering the house.

Norrington stumbled outside onto the step and saw a few onlookers whispering about what was happening, Elizabeth followed him outside but instead of looking around she went up to Antian. “what are you doing?” she questioned her voice becoming louder, Antian smirked, “doing what must be done, what Miss Norrington did was unlawful” one of the guards exited the house carrying some of Norringtons clothes.

“no!” Norrington yelled attempting to block the guards way, only to be pulled back by Antian.

“you can’t do this to him!” Elizabeth protested, “oh but i can Miss Swann” Antian spat, something about this seemed to amuse him. Norrington felt the tears spring back to the corners of his eyes as he watched the guards carry his belongings out of his house, Antian turned his head to look at Norrington “i’m afraid these are the consequences of your actions Miss Norrington”.

Norrington allowed himself to sob,

Elizabeth went over and hugged him in an attempt to comfort the man,

one of the guards exited the house carrying Norringtons uniform and sword, “stop!” he sobbed “stop please!” Norrington begged feeling a piece of his personality being torn away from him.

“Miss Norrington stop causing a scene” Antian demanded,

Norrington glared at Antian,

“how can i? you’re taking away everything i’ve ever known!” he shouted, “Miss Norrington calm down” Antian said in that same smug voice.

Elizabeth sighed before speaking “it’ll be alright James, i promise i’ll see what my father can do about this unjust act” James looked at her and smiled, “thank you” he whispered.

Antian spoke up,

“oh and one more thing Miss Norrington,” he paused chuckling slightly, “you’ll no longer be permitted to own a house, you are a woman after all” he finished his sentence with a smile.

“what?” he questioned, Elizabeth looked between Antian and Norrington and then back to Antian, “you cannot do this to him!” she yelled “he bought this house with his money!” “that changes nothing Miss Swann, a woman such as you and Miss Norrington are not allowed to own property under the british crown”.

“please stop this” Norrington pleaded, “well” Antian smirked, “if you married a man quickly enough your property would go to him” his smile was devilish.

Norrington and Elizabeth both caught on to what Antian was suggesting,

“he will not marry you” Elizabeth informed before looking at Norrington, “you will not marry him right?” she asked,

“i can’t lose this house” he whispered his face pale,

“James” her voice was hushed,

Antian stood there waiting,

“so?” the captain asked,

“fine, i’ll marry you” Norrington spoke softly,

Antian near laughed,

“perfect!” the captains voice was prideful, “the wedding will be next week at dusk.”

Antian walked away leaving Norrington to fall to his knees in a mess of tears, Elizabeth comforted her friend as she silently crused at the man walking away.

I convinced my mom to try the live action One Piece, because she's the type to like this style of show even though she isn't into animation and would never read manga, but I didn't think I'd be able to convince my dad because he's usually a stickler for more grounded and realistic stories (his favourite genre is war movies, his favourite movie is Saving Private Ryan, for reference). But, when I brought up with him how I figured it probably wouldn't be his thing because it was fantasy, he mentioned to me that he does enjoy some fantastical stuff if it has like an internal universe logic, like Star Wars, and the more I thought about it, the more I remembered that he also enjoys campy fun action adventure stuff that doesn't take itself too seriously like Indiana Jones or Pirates of the Carribean.

And One Piece has both that internal logic for why people can perform crazy feats (even if it isn't explained right away) which I mentioned to him (just that there is a reason why people can do crazy things in this world), as well as the campy fun action adventure thing going for it, especially in the Live Action (the fight against Morgan's base even has a major Indiana Jones vibes ngl). So I explained that to him and asked if he wanted to try it, and he agreed to watching the first episode with me to decide if he'd watch it with my mom and me.

AND HE ACTUALLY SAID IT WAS INTERESTING SO FAR!! Like, he is NOT the kinda guy to enjoy anime or manga or even western cartoons, always refuses to watch anything anime and doesn't show any interest when I talk about it (I've managed to convince him to watch a few movies like Sword of the Stranger but it's obvious that even when he's not bored or doesn't hate it, it still doesn't catch or keep his interest), and he's really picky about anything fantasy or SciFi, if it like sets off his bullshit meter too much he starts nitpicking the logic behind certain abilities, or decisions, or explanations, etc. I once tried to get him to try Gravity Falls and he wanted to stop after the first episode. He's THAT picky.

So the fact that he actually laughed several times while watching the first episode of OPLA with me, commented about Luffy's character positively several times (he seems to think Luffy is really funny which surprised me cause I thought he'd be the most entertained by Zoro but I mean I can't blame him it is Luffy after all), never cringed or criticised or said anything about how ridiculous it was, means a lot coming from him cause he's always really blunt and honest about his opinion on this sort of stuff (which is fine I don't want him to pretend to enjoy stuff when he doesn't). He actually watched the whole first episode without it losing his attention, and seemed to have fun! And he agreed to watch the rest with my mom and me!

This sort of thing is one of the reasons why I dislike when people just dismiss the idea of live action adaptations entirely. I get that people are jaded with past failures, and don't like when live action is treated like a replacement for or improvement from animation when it isn't. But it is a valid medium just as much as animation or comics or writing are, and can be used to produce some amazing things. And the fact is, there are people who have a hard time connecting with other mediums who will otherwise never engage with this media in its original forms. Live Action, when done well and done right, can reach new audiences and welcome them into the fold in ways the original formats never can.

One Piece didn't need the live action to be popular, obviously, and the live action cannot and will not replace the original, nor should it. But I love that we get to have it alongside the manga and anime. It's just more of what we love, it's the cherry on top of an already stellar multi-layered cake. It complements the original rather than taking anything away from it. And for the first time in over a decade I might be able to share One Piece with my parents, who would only ever have a chance of experiencing it and enjoying it in live action. There's just something so awesome about that for me personally. I just wish more live action adaptations would understand what the One Piece live action understood about the adaptation process, and that's how to keep the heart of the story in-tact, so more people from more fandoms could have a chance to share something they love with more people who it would otherwise not reach.

Anyway, thank you Oda and the OPLA cast and crew for doing live action right for once!

FROZEN 3 and FROZEN 4 are both in development, and I can't wait!

The news sounded odd to me initially, I didn't expect anything like this from Disney Animation, but it became immediatly appealing the moment I realized the GREAT potential a double feature could have for the franchise, most importantly when Bob Iger specified “Jenn Lee, who created Frozen, the original Frozen, and Frozen 2 is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories.”, which would mean:

More time to enstablish new elements, new characters, time to explore new lore and new places without the risk to rush everything;

A bigger story that can help flesh out our protagonists in their new roles, their new wants and changes they might face, considering how the F2 ending brought many new possibilities;

A narrative context where the new crysis (whatever it might be) could be explored even better, also allowing to maintain things in a complex prespective just as the Frozen movies like to do, where the matter of "good and evil" not at the center, and things are first of all deeply personal for the characters

It seems to me that Jennifer Lee always wanted to delve deeper into things, this is why the Broadway Musical was a perfect opportunity for her and the Lopez to expand the characters and flesh out things in the story, also adding new elements that would've been useful for F2.

And when they worked on Frozen 2, they built it as the "second part" of the story, reconnecting almost all the aspects of the sequel to the 1st movie, and the story was clearly meant to be BIGGER and longer compared to what we ended up having because of numerous issues and rewrites. J. Lee and C. Buck didn't want to introduce something that would feel just as "a new adventure", and more about the actual characters evolving, see what they left unresolved, breaking the "Happy ending" scenario of F1, which also led them to NOT give the new human characters (Mattias and the Northuldra) the same relevance given to Spirits of Nature, in order to remain focused on Elsa, Anna and the rest of the gang.

Now, Lee will most likely not direct or write these two new movies, but she is still directly involved, because it's both part of her job as CCO of Walt Disney Animation Studio and because Frozen is her (and Chris Buck) baby. It will be curious to discover with what idea Marc Smith came out with, but the fact he worked on the 1st Frozen as a storyboard artist and the became Director of Story for Frozen 2 says a lot about him and why Lee trusts him so much, and I'm sure they will follow the approach used with the 2nd movie and carry it on with 3 and 4. Numerous sagas used the two-parter approach, like the books adaptations of Harry Potter, Twilight and Hunger Games series, or more "original cases" like Pirates of the Carribeans or what we are getting now with the animated Spiderverse movies (Across and Beyond). But I think the best similarity (and probably what led to this ambitious choice) is with Avengers Infinity War/Endgame, where the BIG FINALE gets developed in two movies.

Hello again! First of all, I just read Ch. 4 and i am shaking with anticipation! Also thank you very much for answering my last question. I hope you don't mind me asking this, but reading your "Turning Tides" series has unintentionally inspired me to try to make a story(or possibly series i don't know yet) similar to this. You know the "Chaos Born" lore you know. However, I wanted to get your permission first before getting started.

If it helps, I'll be adding my own twists and differences especially to how certain aspects of The Chaos Born. There will be some similarities but I'll be adding something new.

Instead of the name "Chaos Born" I will be calling them "Chaos Sparks."

Chaos( or at least the mention of him), Chaos Sparks, Creatures of the night, and quite possibly pirates will be included.

Shadow will be a creature of the night, but his origins will be vastly different.

Huge difference-Sonic and Shadow have already known each other at the very start of the story... But it's complicated and very angsty.

Sonic has always been aware of what he is, but that does not take away his adventurous spirit.

Instead of Shadow already knowing Rouge and Omega, you'll get to see Shadow develop his friendship with them after meeting them. Same with Sonic developing his friendship with Tails and Knuckles.

A lot of Johnny Depp movies helped inspire this fic (Not just "Pirates of the Carribean".)

Sonic is NOT the last of his kind. (I have OC's planned).

My girl Amy is going to be an interesting character indeed. With strong ties to Sonic and Shadow.

Sticks the Badger will be involved. 'Nuff said.

While the story mostly focuses on Sonic's world-lol "His World"- There may or may not be some small crossovers with a few other video game characters. Not a lot though.

The whole thing about Chaos Sparks finding Chaos Emeralds will be in there, and they are in danger of being hunted because of the gems and their gifts. But the story is mostly about Sonic and some of his friends trying to find what they're looking for.

I am currently in the process of making a pirate OC. But I promise they will not be a cheap knock-off of Leven, Grey, Jorah, and Scaro. But especially Leven and Grey!

If you would like I could drop in a reference from your story.

I'm honored that my story inspired you! I love the name Chaos Sparks! I appreciate the ask and I think that even with the different race elements being in there it still sounds different enough that people won't get the two AU's confused.

I'd say to keep the two AU's separate, maybe no reference to Tides within the story. Only because that might confuse people. If you would like to comment that Tides inspired you that I don't mind.
