Oh, I'm happy you are enjoying the role swap! I don't have any plans to add baby Silver or to add Sonic or Shadow being father figures.

I know either or both of them being Silvers ancestors is a large Headcannon for some people but I do not. The only one I really Headcannon myself is the SATBK version of Shadow and Silver as Lancelot and Galahad.

I don't have plans to make that cannon for this AU. Silver is just a psychokinetic hedgehog from the future.

So I've reread your small roleswap for "Tides of Chaos" from your old "Sonadowtober" fic, and I'm curious if you're going to adapt a story or series out of it? Like a "Reverse Tides?"

If not that's alright, "Turning Tides" is good enough for me. But I do have some ideas on what could go down in that story...

Now of course you don't want it to be an exact copy of your last fic, then that would not be as fun, and certainly would feel OOC for specific characters. When I read that chapter I still felt like I was reading Shadow and Sonic as themselves even if their roles were reversed.

Naval Captain Shadow/Pirate Hunter Shadow still feels very much like a no nonsense captain and a very ruthless one from how you described him in the fic. In contrast to Naval Captain Sonic who was a naive, heroic youth on his very first voyage, This Captain Shadow sounds like a professional who's sailed the seas many times and does his job with pride.

Despite being on the good guys in that story, he still has some bloodlust in him. I'm guessing Maria was murdered by pirates years ago and it made him become the most feared pirate hunter across the seven seas. He will make the killing blow and do what he believes is for the greater good and trusts his crew to do the same, hence why he challenged Sonic asking him if taking him hostage will be enough to prevent his crew from killing them.

Pirate Captain Sonic comes across as mischievous rather than malevolent or murderous (though I could be wrong). He seems to treat being a pirate almost like a game but he doesn't go too far with it. When he and his crew have Shadow and the others at their mercy, he doesn't express interest in spilling blood. He just goes "Nah, just take what we need and leave them." Although he does express an interest in stealing a angry (but handsome) pirate hunter. Of course it could be just because he needed to use him as insurance for the safety of his crew, but who knows maybe he was a little attracted to Shadow.

I don't know what you'd do for Knuckles or Tails if you plan to make them creatures of the night, but for Sonic and Amy, I'd have our blue boy be a werewolf and the pink rose a corpse.

Yes, Sonic was a Werehog in "Sonic Unleashed" but it also works because Sonic is an incredibly loyal character. That and you can make so many dog jokes with him. Even his own crew like to joke about what kind of dog breed he is.

I think he'd believe that he is an Omega when in reality he is an Alpha.

Amy being a corpse comes from the character Emily from "The Corpse Bride." Oh, just imagine giving her a very tragic backstory such as being murdered by an old lover. But despite that she still loves romance. When she learns that Sonic and Shadow are developing feelings for each other, she gets ecstatic and throws herself onto the bandwagon and starts trying to push each other to make the first move. Yeah she's a little pushy and overzealous, but if you look at it from her pov, its understandable why she's like that. A mortal life isn't a long one, Sonic and Shadow are still living and have a chance to be happy together. Amy doesn't have that chance anymore... Or does she..?

And don't forget Shadow probably hasn't lived since he lost Maria...

I honestly had mixed feelings when I read your roleswap chapter. On one hand reading Sonic getting the jump on Shadow made me go "Yes! It's payback time fools!" On the other hand I was also like "No Sonic. Don't do that. Please stop. You are better than this."

I'm quite curious for how their interactions will be in this Role Reversal. For some reason this keeps playing in my head.

Pirate Captain Shadow (how he was in the beginning): I'm going to kill this self-sacrificing hedgehog.

Pirate Captain Sonic: I will kill him... With kindness.

Now Shadow isn't like Sonic. He holds a grudge and he carries it to the grave. He doesn't forgive lightly nor does he warm up to people easily. Let alone pirates who've kidnapped him.

But if you want to give Shadow his own Leven per se, I'd say either Amy or Cream.

Knuckles is going to be somewhere in between Sonic's Omega and his Gray. He would be the most antagonistic and distrustful towards Shadow and would try to push his captain to be more dominant with their prisoner. This causes the two friends to butt heads with each other as being "dominant" isn't Sonic's style. Maybe Shadow overhears one of these arguments and it causes him to be less resentful of Sonic. Doesn't mean he's forgiven him on the spot, but it's a start.

Maybe out of a moment of weakness, Shadow tells Sonic about Maria but he phrases it like she's still alive (he's doesn't go into detail about the pirate raid that took her life either). This is partly because he can use Sonic's sympathy for him to prevent him from changing his mind. (I don't know how their deal will go down) But the big reason for his deceit is because he doesn't want to admit that he doesn't have a family waiting for him back home. Which is very sad...

Despite being a pirate, Sonic is actually a bit naive when it comes to people like Shadow. He automatically thinks Shadow is a good guy simply because he's part of the military and of course he's The Ultimate Captain. This amuses Shadow but it also makes him think of his flaws.

In turn as Shadow gets to know Sonic and his flaws, he sees that though Sonic is wild.., he's quite an unusual pirate.

Before becoming a pirate, he was a drifter trying to find a home and a job, but every single time he got outed as a werewolf and got chased away. Along the way he meets his friends and then they finally take up piracy together.

A Pirate's Sacred Vow:

Pirate Captain Shadow- vowed to never mark anyone again. He broke it once and had hurt someone he really cared about. It caused him great guilt. It was only when Sonic forced him to feed on him that he managed to snap out of his guilt and take better care of himself.

Pirate Captain Sonic- this may be farfetched because this is still a Pirate AU, but what if Sonic's vow wasn't to kill.

Sonic had never had a desire to and has managed not to kill. Some of this comes from a very tragic backstory:

A while ago there was someone Sonic loved (who it is is up to you), but one day they were killed. Murdered. Sonic was devastated. So devastated he hunted them down himself. It was a full moon night and he practically terrorized the lot of them and caused a lot of damage. (Which is terrifying. Imagine a werehog who is normally in control of himself in his other form, and he just snapped!) Just as he's about to kill the ringleader, he's reminded of his love for this person and who he is as a hedgehog. (Don't worry they don't get off scot free. Sonic tied them up and left them for the law to find). Sonic is ashamed of that night and has vowed to never kill.

But what happens if he kills someone to save Shadow? And he DOESN'T regret it! If he hadn't, he would of lost Shadow. But he's terrified Shadow will now see him as the scum he truly is (in his head).

Shadow however just feels guilt that he made Sonic go that far for him. Then there's the angst and the fluff. Cuz you can't have this kind of story without the angst and the fluff.

Words a villains would say to our hedgehogs:

To Sonic: "You're gonna die Sonic! LIKE A DOG!!!"

To Shadow: "What's wrong Captain Shadow? Did I hurt your puppy?"

Considering Movie!Shadow is voiced by a guy who played an assassin in a movie where his character committed a lot of murder for a puppy, that is a very bad thing to say to him.

If Tides of Chaos Sonic and Shadow met these guys this is how I imagine their meeting to go.

Elite Soldier Sonic: YOU KIDNAPPED SHADOW!? WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!?

Pirate Captain Sonic can't say a word because ToC Sonic won't stop shaking him back and forth!

Meanwhile with the Shadows:

ToC Shadow: how long did it take for you to realize that the blue idiot wasn't a threat to your life?

Military Captain Shadow: honestly.., I should've known sooner after watching him struggle to revive a Flicky that fell and landed on the deck of his ship.

And then they go home.

ToC Shadow: you know if I'd known this was how you treat your prisoners, I would've surrendered to you a long time ago! 😉

ToC Sonic: SHADOW!!!

ToC Shadow: I'm just saying.., (whispers in his ear) I'm perfectly content in being your willing victim.😏

ToC Sonic: STFU!!!

Holy Moly you freaking COOKED! Reverse Tides is such a great title for one.

I should say that at the moment I don't plan to write a Reverse Tides story. If I did It it wouldn't be for a hot minuet. I got Shadow Adventures I want to work on while I finish outlining Tides of Darkness. I just started posting more Chapters of 06 after YEARS and im going to at the very least finish that before I do anything else with Tides.

Besides that I absolutely LOVE this concept. Sonic being a Werehog. Amy being a corpse bride (Or perhaps a Banshee who only screams when death is near and that's how they always ready for danger), Tails would have to me a young kitsune/ mad scientist. and Knuckles could be a living Golem partially made out of Gemstones (Perhaps the Master Emerald pieces???)

Gods I cant believe you've done this! This idea is starting to sound so good! The Vow of Sonic refusing to kill. Shadow bonding with one of the crew (Def Cream if she's of the ship if not maybe Tails I actually love Shadow and Tails dynamic)

I would not use Chaos Born again since that would water down Tides in my opinion. No no. There's something else about Shadow and it's connected with something dark lurking deep beneath the waves.

I feel so bad for having been late to the voting for AUs. I would’ve loved for you to win. Your story gets their personalities so right and the world building has me INVESTED. I’ve re-read it more than 5 times already. And I haven’t read the other persons story, and i don’t doubt it’s good (the art for it is incredible), but their interpretations of my two favorite characters and ship has put me off it, right to opinions regardless. Makes me sound biased 😭 Anyway wish you had won, and your story is still the winner in my heart ❤️

Don't feel bad! Honestly I made it a lot farther than I expected to. I was one of the only written AU'S against a bunch of art AU'S and their art was stunning! I have a small pool of fanart And commissioned art for Tides but it just wasn't enough.

Half of the reason I joined was to see and learn about other AU's. I had a lot of fun regardless.

I'm happy that it brought more people to read Tides. 💕

I just finished Tide of Embers and came to your tumblr for updates, but just wanted to make sure, are you finishing the series? I saw Chapter 20 ended with a cliffhanger, and as much as I’d know how it ends, I totally understand if you don’t plan on it. Just wanted to say I love you work and Tide of Chaos/Embers is the one of the most captivating and beautiful fics I’ve read in such a long time. I’m hooked!

Hello! No, there will be a 3rd and final story for the turning tides, Tides of Darkness.

I am taking a break from that AU to work on my other AU Shadow Adventures. I'm planning on finishing 06 while I'm finishing up the outline for Darkness.

Since Tides of Darkness will be the final story of the series I want to make sure I really flesh everything out. I've already got a decent amount outlined and I'm liking where it's going.

I do plan on having some short fics that will build up to Darkness, no timeline for when I'll be posting the first one but I can say that there are 4 shorts in total before the start of Tides of Darkness!
