hii! first of all i just want to say i love turning tides! but is the whole tides of darkness just about saving sonic or will he return halfway through or something? i really hope that he gets out of mobotropolis asap, thinking about how sonic will be stuck with infinite for more than 4 months creeps me out. no pressure though please write the story however you want i’ll be there to read it

I don't want to give any spoilers away but I will just say no, Sonic will not be imprisoned the entirety of Darkness.

Little question regarding the food that the pirate gave Sonic at the beggining of "Tides of chaos": We all know why Sonic refuse to eat it but was it actually safe for him to eat?

I mean like Sonic said, it seem like something Mobians wouldn't be able to eat. However, I'm pretty sure the final hazard had other mobian prisonniers before being fed the same thing and they most likly eat it to survive. Plus, Shadow doesn't seem to be the type to willingly poison his prisonners.

Yeah it was perfectly safe. The eye ball thing was a fear tactic. The food was usually fish, When you are on a ship you waste nothing, So i figured bloody soup with some eyeballs would be spooky.

Most of the Final Hazard don't need to eat. Those who do have either a diet of blood or raw meat. So they are not very accustom to making a lot of food.

The rosemary bread was a little add on I thought Shadow would enjoy. And Rosemary is a pretty hearty plant so I could see it surviving of a ship.

I was rereading Ch. 5 of "Tide of Embers," and I can't help but think "Through the Fire" would be a good title for that chapter. I was thinking of that song from "Sonic and the Black Knight" and I feel it fits the duel between Infinite and Sir Sonic perfectly.

oohhh! I'll keep that in mind! At some point I might put titles for the chapters... I only stopped because it would literally stop me from posting because I couldn't think of a title and I'm impatient lol

In "Turning Tides" has Shadow ever visited Maria's grave? In Ch. 12 of "Tide of Embers" he mentioned that he and his crew had buried her. But did he occasionally go there on the anniversary of her death? Or was it just too painful for him? Did he ever visit her old home as well?

Also what was her relationship with the crew like? I know she had been Shadow's favorite person and that Rouge and Omega knew of her. Did they have a friendship with her as well? Did she like Leven, Gray, Scaro, and Jorah? Or was she kept a secret from them because Shadow was cautious of the possibility that one of his men could betray him and tell someone about her and how much she mean't to him?

Hello! So first question, yes. Shadow would visit Maria's grave whenever he was near the area. (I don't have an exact location as to where she lived or is buried) just that she was buried near a cliff side overlooking the ocean not too far from where her home is.

Sadly, Maria's parents were killed by the Jackal Squad when they went after her. Shadow does avoid the house itself. Her parents are bried near Maria.

The crew knew that one of Shadows' marked lived there but they did not know Maria. But I bet Maria would have loved all of them. It's not like he didn't trust his crew to keep his secret but Maria's father wanted to keep his past away from his wife and daughter as much as possible, Shadow being the exception.

What inspired you to give Thiosa the sunset color pallete? Was it because you just intended to make her exceptionally beautiful? Do you just like sunsets and thier colors? Or was there a deeper reason?

Sunsets are when the day ends and the light fades but they still make beautiful colors in the evening sky. And like I mentioned before, they produce large shadows.

I know that Thiosa was already long gone sometime after the werewolf attack, but there's a part of me that likes to believe a small part of her true self had broken through her warped mind when she was dying. If you think about it, her naming Shadow was probably the only free choice she ever got to make while being Doom's thrall. Something both heartening and tragic at the same time.

Do you think she wanted to give him a name that linked him to the light despite it's dark connotations?

Again I know I'm probably overanalyzing. But I don't know if you are aware of the utter genius of giving Shadow a sunset mom! To be fair, I didn't see it initially either. But then I really thought about it and it just made sense! Even before "Sonic x Shadow Generations" was released. But that line Maria said about Shadow's name affirmed it for me.

I also must praise you for making her a tenrec instead of a hedgehog. It's very original! You successfully avoided the clone parent OC phenomena and it's Black Doom who has a hedgehog visage in this AU which Shadow had unfortunately inherited. (Not a slight against Shadow of course. But who wants to look like their abusive parent?)

I too am going to try something like this for some of my Sonic OC parents as well! One will be the same species of a Sonic character while another will be something else. Heck, I may give a couple of the characters parents that are two different species from them and possibly from each other and when people ask about it, they'll explain that one of their own parents were the species of their grandchildren and it's why they were born that species of Mobian.

thank you for the ask. So! I wanted there to be that aspect of a potential for any Chaos Born's colors to change. So the whole idea was to highlight that Chaos Born are influenced by their surroundings.

(Yes Sonic's quills could also change colors as well,)

For Saris, his constant exposure to the Master Emerald was why his quills Ombre to green.

the initial colors was just a fun idea I had but then I remembered the scene of Sonic watching the sunset in Thiosa's room when he was imprisoned. It was the view she had every night while she was alive.

So... how do you feel about "Turning Tides" reaching it's end? I imagine you'd feel accomplished and relieved, but I understand feeling sadness that something you loved had to come to and end.

Of course it won't be that bad. You still have "Shadow Adventures." But your pirate AU was like your crown jewel. Your magnum opus. It was your favorite!

Will you celebrate when it's finally over? Eat your favorite food? Drink your favorite soda? Do an improvised or rehearsed victory dance?

Now of course once Tides is over and Captain Shadow and Sir Sonic are given their ending, you'll probably revert your attention back to "Shadow Adventures." But I am curious. Are there any other AU's you want to delve into? (Asides from "Reverse Tides" of course. I really appreciate you hearing me out and reading my ideas! It was fun! I always chuckle whenever I'm looking at that open mouthed cat meme you put in the first ask. 😊 And I'm twice as thankful that you never thought of me as a pain. Thank you!)

You like Superhero AU's? I know they're becoming popular thanks to sonic and DC crossover comics that started this year. Western AU thanks to Sheriff Sonic? Anything is possible.

Honest answer, I'm excited for it to be finished. I love the story and the characters. This AU will always hold a special place in my heart but it's felt a little stagnant in my brain for a while as I'm trying to finalize the outline. I know half of it is burnout from the move so I'm hoping after I finally get settled in I'll have the bandwidth again but I know a part of me is ready to move on to another story.

Now I don't want anyone to freak out. I will complete Tides of Darkness and it will have a completed ending... It just might take a while to get there.

What comes after will be a mystery. I try not to think of new AUs when I'm already writing other stories because then there's the worry I'll lose all interest in Tides (curse you ADHD)

But ... *Glares at Sega* It's very difficult not to think about a new AU when they throw cowboys at your face!

Do Vampires in "Turning tides" have reflection? (I'm asking because they seem to be fine with the sun so I wanna know about other differences with typical vampires they have)

Ah! So that depends! Back in the day, mirrors were made with Silver so that's why Vampires don't show a reflection. However, other smooth surfaces that can create a reflection will show up. Like over water or any other type of metal.

As a rare Eclipse fan, i never thought i’d see Eclipse x Sonic (one sided at least) ever played out. Unless I’m misunderstanding Eclipses feelings, but I love how you’ve written him being conflicted and also feel sad for my boy because he’s in a “always the brides maid but never the bride” situation 😭

We love Eclipse in this house!!!

I enjoyed writing him so much. And no an extent, it was a one sided attraction. Although now we know it was based of fake memories that made him jealous and wanting what Shadow had.

It took a bit but Sonic and Eclipse are on good terms now. They haven't had a chance to talk about it in person but occasionally they would write letters to one another to talk about what happened to both of them.

I'm cooking with Tides of Darkness! I'm getting super excited! Now I just need to get the move over with and settle into the new place to really start hashing it out!
