Hello little Sailor, and what brings you so close to shore?

Summary: setting off on the next length of your journey you find yourself regressed in the captain's quarters.

aka first time doing a reader insert fic + cg captain Spurgeon (my oc)

The captain’s quarters smell of wooden shavings and ink. A collection that spans a life of adventure and trade is shown across the room. It's eclectic, piled high with treasures and knickknacks, barrels full of maps and ropes that spread and hang from tacks placed in the walls.

You sometimes play with the intricate wooden carving’s your caregiver makes; the ones that sit on one of the many bookshelves, otherwise gathering dust. Sometimes getting the chance to make suggestions as to what he creates next in his free time. Small animals and mythical creatures coming to life from nothing more than a piece of dried sea wood, a whittling knife, and the patience learned only from spending a life out at sea.

If you take one to the first mate, and ask about him it, he would tell you of what travel inspired that particular design. With captivating detail, the mind of all sorts of artists seem to reside on this ship.

You could always try and ask the captain directly, though he will never share exactly where or how he knows of so many monsters that few scholars knew of their very existence. Much easier to ask the crew instead, those who have been around long enough that is...

Still they were fun to play with and if you were lucky you could drag one of the members who travel along with you into an intricate game of make believe.

Today is not one of those days however so you leave the shelf alone, fingers trailing over glass bottles and loose coins. You could get lost in the stories each item held, a seemingly never ending source of wonder. Everyone seems to have a tale here of how they made it onto this ship if you only take the time to ask.

The captain sits on his chair, quill scratching away at parchment. You would have to try and gain his attention, though you simply slip into the room knowing how busy he must be. You will be landing in a few days at a new port and the atmosphere of the air ship has changed dramatically.

The bounties of those stowed away on this ship have only increased, and it would spell disaster if you reach mainland only to alert the authorities. Though the captain does not seem worried about the possibility of trouble, those you travel with are on edge. This unspoken worry only feeds your own anxiety and hence the current state of mind.

You lay in the hammock. In the place of a mobile hang an intricate patterns of rope, tied between the beams in the ceiling. Pearls and different shells are intertwined between the sections of nets as the boat sways.

You can hear the crew talking from the deck above you. You will be taking off shortly, it seems sooner than you thought.

You whine and the noise finally draws the elder's attention away from last minute delivery details and towards you.

He looks up with a soft smile.

Afraid for a moment that you would have to explain yourself. It seems you don't, or maybe the captain's just used to little ones coming to him when they need someone.

“Well hello there little sailor.”

“Hi…” You mumble, ducking your face away, as though to hide.

“Nervous?" Your caregiver asks. “There is no need to be little one. We've gotten through much worse waters than these. This journey will be no different than any other.”

He does not speak of what might happen when you land. You don't want to ask. If he's not worried then you don't need to be.

“Have you already eaten?” The captain asks.

You don't want to tell him that it’s been two hours since breakfast and that you had your mama make you food. You shake your head no instead. A snack won't hurt anyways.

You reach towards the elder man with grabby hands, a silent request to be held.

The captain picks you up with one arm, leans to grab his hat from where it's kept on a hook with his other.

Despite being a pirate, the leader at that, he never does wear his hat except to offer it to a little one who needs cheering up.

He tips it onto your head. You giggle as it slips over your eyes, pushing it up with both hands to peak up at your caregiver. He chuckles heartily.

"Shall we set off then my little one?"

You giggle again before exclaiming, "Ay Capin'!"

Regressor!Law has no fics and almost no posts huh... ready to step in as the CEO of Regressor!Law dw guys (/j)

Here are my current thoughts though:

- He's a very quiet boy and prefers quiet/low noise environments, mainly because when he grew up with Cora he would often use his devil fruit to drown out loud noises, especially at night, and Law generally has sensitive ears anyway but usually ignores his discomfort, when he's regressed its a lot harder to push that off

- Oh boy he's a crier, his childhood is filled to the brim with grief and tragedy, not only that but he definitely pushes off regression as often as he can so when he finally drops, it's a big release of built up emotion all at once, good thing he has his crew for comfort! Especially Bepo, Penguin and Shachi, they've been around the longest

On really bad days he'll end up a loud crier too, hes usually stifling his sobs but sometimes its just too much, it's a big build up of emotion he can't help himself, and it only makes him feel so much worse about it, thankfully Bepo almost always comes running and his fur is perfect for not only comfort but muffling noise

Only issue with Bepo is that he'll also start crying because Law's crying, which makes Law feel bad so Penguin and Shachi are always there as extra support (Shachi's the best at making him giggle and Penguin makes some awesome tea)

- He's really sensory focused, he loves stuffies (but god he'll never ask for them, he can't get himself to) and he'll almost always change into a hoodie or something comfy when regressed, feels too tight and scratchy otherwise

If he doesn't like the feel of something, he'll make it known real fast, which ends with him being a picky eater because some textures are gross!

- He's a tired boy, see those eyebags he has normally? Yeah they feel even heavier when he's teeny, instead of playing and doing whatever else kids will do he'd much rather curl up with Bepo or someone else and take a nap

(He can get a bit picky about germs and generally feels embarrassed sucking on his fingers but as he gets closer and closer to sleep, you'll start to see his thumb slip closer and closer to his lips, half the time it just lays there and the other half it'll slip into his mouth once he knocks out)

Okay it has been weeks and I haven't seen NEARLY enough people talking about space babies.

These gifs do not do it justice, this episode made me feel SO TINY.

15 is already one of my favorite doctors when big, but something about him is so comforting to me? And seeing how he interacted with the space babies.... Ough I'm soft 🥺🥺🥺
