Hi again! =) I'm sorry it's taken me so long to follow you! I kept meaning to and thinking I had, only to see i hadn't! I just wanted to say I'm pretty new to the httyd fandom too and I hope your experience has been awesome so far! Have you seen RTTE by any chance? Also what's your favorite dragons if you don't mind me asking? You don't have to answer if you'd prefer not to of course! I hope I havn't bothered you!

Allow me to welcome you to the fandom! My experience has most certainly been thoroughly awesome so far. Yes, I’ve seen RTTE! I’m very fond of the series, in fact ^^ 

My favourite dragons… Now that’s a question I have never really thought about! 

One would be the Death Song ^^ I think its design is very cool and it also had the series acknowledge that dragons in fact do eat other dragons. 

And how cool are these guys!? 

Speed Stingers are great too! The fact that they can’t fly but are dangerous for completely different reasons makes them stand out ^^ 

Those are just a few of my favourites! Of course I love all of the original gang’s dragons too, but I felt these dragons from the series deserved a chance in the spotlight ^^

I'm sorry if this sounds weird, but I liked your add on answer to the headcanons! =) I love the thought of Stoick & Spitelout being brothers in law (or half brothers) and Spitelout comming to respect and support Hiccup when he's questioned is great! Hi! Not at all weird!

So my fic is available on AO3 or FFN, and it’s set 20 years after THW. It’s centered mainly on Zephyr and Nuffink and their adventures and coming-of-age during a time when trouble might be brewing on the horizon. Snotlout/Spitelout’s backstory was touched upon in one of the chapters, although of course as author I would prefer if you didn’t skip ahead :P

P.S. to the Anon who sent the Ask on pregstrid headcanons, I haven’t forgotten about your Ask; it would just spoil quite a bit of a future chapter, so I’m holding off on answering that until I finish that chapter.

Hello! I just finished reading Travels of the Trifecta! on ao3 and I absolutely adored it! Without a doubt the best Pokémon story I've ever read and just so beautifully written! >w

Hey now, if you’re taking time out of your life to express how much you enjoyed anything I write, that’s never something I’d get bothered about! It’s very much the other way around. 

Nowadays, I don’t have much to pride myself on outside of my ability to write. So it really does mean the world to me when I get comments/reviews/messages for any of my stories; especially when effort is put in so I’ll know exactly what I did right and how it affected the reader. 

Even though I’m very much an author with the philosophy of only writing for myself with no regard to what the public would want, I consider it a gift to be told that any work of mine meant so much to someone other than myself. It goes a long way in sustaining my (perpetually low) self-esteem, so I’d never ever ever be bothered by anyone who goes out of their way to tell me what they experienced while reading anything I write.

Really, the only bad thing is that I haven’t updated Trifecta in forever so I end up feeling like a dick leaving readers hanging. I can say with certainty that it isn’t dead. Trifecta is not dead until I say it is. It’s all about my mindset and how to get into the right form of it when the planets align, because the freaky phenomenon that struck me at the start of this year proves I’m capable of writing an insane amount of material in relatively short periods of time. 

I’m still trying to figure that out, honestly. In 20+ years of writing, this has never happened to me before until this year. 

… on top of that, you picked a good time to do this! I’m in a really craptastic mood this weekend (coincidentally due to other stories of mine), so I really needed something like this to help pick me up. So rest assured I’m very grateful for what you’ve done for me!

(I’ll admit I’m curious why there’s been a spike of interest in Trifecta recently… it’s been getting a lot of attention this month even though I’ve done nothing new for it in ages!)

Oh also! Do you like Spitelout's RTTE design as well? I like how in the later seasons (when he looks more like his 2nd movie design) he wears a bit of color rather than all black & brown and I love the green eyes they gave him! A bit more dark and bright than Hiccup & Toothless's eye colors. =)

I never really considered ruffspite until I found your blog and I really like the thought of it~ I was happy to see a little Eret/Spitelout too cause I’ve been thinking about it since seeing the 3rd movie, trying to imagine Snotlout feeling like Eret’s a rival for Valka & Ruff’s affection, only to see him kissing his dad >w> I’ve noticed you aren’t really a fan of show Spitelout, could you tell me what you think of him if you don’t mind? I hope I havn’t bothered you!

To answer your questions: his design was par for the course in the TV show. His character… eh. It didn’t match up to the movies for me. At all, really.

As I’ve said in several posts (posts you’ve must have run into by now) movie-canon and TV-canon are different. Yes, they follow the same ‘canon’ timeline, and yes the showrunners tried to do their homework where they could to keep from clashing with the movies by consulting with Dean and yes, if people want to shoehorn that TV show into the movies fully, then that’s their prerogative. But they don’t match up. The writing is different, is what it comes down to. They’re literally written by two different parties, there’s too many details that misalign (especially for fans that had broken the movie down long before the TV show aired), even the humor and interactions were noticeably more juvenile in comparison (and, uh, don’t get me started on the Hiccstrid part). And for several areas of dispute, long-standing headcanons are so much better and more satisfying to the movie atmosphere than what the TV show produced. My two cents, anyway.

And Spitelout is a perfect example. His relationship with his son comes off as completely different in the movies compared to the borderline emotionally abusive relationship he seems to have with Snotlout in the show. In fact, they’ve managed to make him a flatter character in the TV show than in the movies, where his handful of words, grunts, and many, many expressions paint a fuller person. We don’t get that abusive subtext at all from the movies. And the movies, what makes them so rich, is the subtext. The TV show is like a bull in a china shop compared to the movies, tbh. But like I said, different writing. And the audience is obviously aimed at… what was it? Oh yeah, 9-13 year old boys.

I’m glad you like Ruffspite! I mean, it’s purely a crackship for me, but it still holds some appeal, even now.

Now this Eret/Spitelout… that’s something I’m going to look for whenever I see the movie again. Where was it? I’m genuinely curious. It’s an interesting idea if Gobber and Spitelout were to start a silent rivalry over Eret. You know, the kind the whole village is aware of and watches for like the gossipers they are.

In HTTYD1 Snotlout says “my parents’ basement” which makes me think he has a mother in the picture (Freda, I believe her names was in the books). Maybe she died in Drago’s attack! Or maybe she’s just hiding. Maybe she left Spitelout because she couldn’t conform to the new Berkian lifestyle! Oooh, so many mabeys…

Maybe she took Snotlout’s sister and joined the Bog Burglars. Yum, I like that.

That's fair, I don't like how he's treated Snotlout at times either. And your right, a good character dosn't have to be a good person. I suppose I just don't see him as badly as some, even when he's said something mean to Snotlout he never came off as malicious to me, like he was purposely trying to hurt his son. To me it came off more as he dosn't realize how he makes Snotlout feel at times, and they do have nice moments together too in the show and it's clear he loves Snotlout.

Ah not that it makes it okay how he treats Snotlout of course. I'm not trying to excuse it, just share why I don't dislike him like most fans do.

He cares for Snotlout in the wrong way and is way too controlling of him. His pushing for Snotlout to strive to be better than everyone else is also not good for him. So yeah, he cares, but it definitely comes off as abusive.

Hello! How could you picture Ramsay as a father to sons & daughters? I know he likely wouldn't be a good one, but would he be as bad as Roose? Maybe better or worse in different ways?

Ramsay would absolutely not be a good father whatsoever. Like he would be worse than Roose just because Ramsay is way more abusive than Roose in general. And no, that’s not me shrugging off Roose as abusive because Roose is abusive as hell too, but Ramsay would be worse.

First of all, he only wants a son so he’ll have a legitimate heir for the Bolton name. If he had a girl, he probably wouldn’t even ac-knowledge her. There would be physical abuse whether it was a boy or a girl. There would be mental and emotional abuse as well.

Also I could see him forcing his kids to do things they don’t even WANT to do. Like killing a person? He would absolutely teach themto murder. Which is… just beyond disturbing by itself.

That, and Ramsay doesn’t know the meaning of constraint. He’s impulsive and he treats 95% of things in life like a game. He wouldn’t suddenly change that aspect of himself for his kids because that’s just who he is.

TL;DR? Ramsay would be a horrible father.

Hi~ I'm sorry we haven't talked in a few days ;w; I was thinking of how Valca reveals Toothless is Hiccup's age, and it made me wonder if you have any headcanons for the other dragon's ages? Also I'm still loving your gifsets! It's awesome that you always have new ones to share! =)

Hey! No problem at all. I uh, I honestly don’t have any idea how old the other dragons are. Probably older than Toothless though. Maybe. Hard to tell. And I honestly didn’t really think about their ages until Valka brought it up in the 2nd film. I imagine Cloudjumper’s about Valka’s age too, or even older. I also don’t really know how long dragons live for, did they ever talk about that? She says about Toothless being Hiccup’s age ‘no wonder you get along so well’, so does that mean dragons live roughly as long as humans?

And thanks, I’m glad you’re loving them. Yeah I’ve had a gifset nearly every day for over four years now and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon haha.

Ooh thank you for answering my question! =D I really enjoyed the gif's and the dragons you chose are all very cool! The Speed stingers have always been cool, the Fireworms are adorable, and the Dearh songs are such interesting dragons too! Of course I love the gang's dragons too (and Kingstail!) but my favorite non-main dragons have to be Singetails & Snafflefangs! Snafflefangs are like the big loving puppies that dont know there own strength, making it so amusing to me that Spitelout has one -

- in THW! Then again he does look much more relaxed and happy in the movie so I could see him having a more playful, loving dragon as he loosens up. Snafflefangs are probably cheating here sense they arn’t in the show though >w> So on to Singetails! I love these dragon’s name, their design, and just how creepy awesome their roar/noise is! Makes me picture a velociraptor! =O and of course the fact that they tie to Spitelout in Wings of War dosn’t hurt either…-

- Oh and Snow Wraiths were pretty cool (heh) dragons too! Nice designs, very fast, and I think the only ice dragon in the series right? I think as far as I can recall the Snow Wraith was the only one in the TV series yeah, but my memory might be letting me down on that one. Although I suppose you could count the Bewilderbeast at the end!

Yeah, I definitely will be posting a spoiler list too and more comprehensive review of THW! Woot woot! But I have a headache now and I want to formulate thoughts, so that sort of posting will be a few days from now. :)

I’ve gotten lots of people asking about the book reference and headcanon that came true, so:

I wanted Hiccup to word-per-word quote the opening intro of the How to Train Your Dragon books. Not just “There were dragons when I was a boy,” but continuing on after that. (I have the full page memorized, because of course I do.) Giving us the full intro, as it were. So hearing Hiccup on screen say those words was the BEST.

Headcanoned Hiccstrid children, what they would look like, were fairly close to how I sort of imagined them! I especially had my heart set on an eldest daughter with long brown hair, so seeing her on screen was, “Oh hi would you look at that.” Lots of people have had similar headcanons, but sort of fun to see some of what I also imagined happen.
